The first explosion occurred late on Saturday evening in a hairdressing salon in the Concourslaan
the fire was brought under control again shortly before midnight
According to a spokesperson for the safety region
there were no injuries during the explosion or the fire
as the explosion followed by the fire destroyed the facade of the building
The surrounding buildings were also damaged by the smoke
The second explosion occurred at around 2:00 a.m
on Saturday in a snack bar in the Noordmeerstraat
the snack bar suffered less damage than the hair salon as there was no fire
This investigation has already shown that the building on Noordmeerstraat was previously owned by a family member of the owner of the barbershop
Both the owner of the barbershop and the current owner of the snack bar have filed a report

Arup is working with Schiphol Area Development Company (SADC) and Schiphol Trade Park (STP)
Sustainability drives this mixed-use urban regeneration project
combining rural tranquillity and bustling city life within a unique heritage setting
People and community will take centre stage in this development
with 75,000 m2 of shared indoor space and 25 hectares of green park space
Mixity is set to deliver 400,000 m2 of flexible space to accommodate new businesses
strengthening innovation and competitiveness
Redesigned working environments and inclusive workplace typologies are combined with public facilities
wellness and recreation via a new footbridge and active transport modes
This not only creates added value for companies and employees
but also for residents and travellers from Schiphol Airport
Mixity’s lighthouse project exemplifies how sustainability can futureproof an urban development project
surrounded by emerging businesses and residential neighbourhoods
regional and national-scale infrastructure
and the unique polder landscape surroundings
Arup developed this sustainable development strategy in response to urbanisation pressures and to create quality of life by promoting healthy living and working
and by engaging with a wide range of stakeholders
our urban designers developed concepts based on a deep understanding of place
The Dutch ‘polder’ structure’s character will guide the site’s future urban development
with water playing an essential role in managing microclimates and enhancing resilience against climate hazards
The Geniepark recreational area builds upon the area’s unique heritage
maintaining the historic existing canal which will be expanded with adaptable floodable plains
The development also includes a water management infrastructure that will store
treat and distribute rainwater across the development
The new footbridge serves as a ramp and reconnects the Stelling defence line - a historic military and UNESCO site intersected by rail and road infrastructure - as a reimagined heritage corridor
mitigating any visual impact caused by the railway and fostering the link with the park
A network of green and blue infrastructure extends from the park into the development to reinforce the natural polder environment and provide recreation space.
Encouraging a modal shift from car usage towards active and public transport
the site includes an active travel infrastructure network with pedestrianised streets
improvement of the station hub connection and an important lobby for an extension of the North-South subway
a major public transport network in Amsterdam which currently ends at Schiphol
The modular energy system is based on a combination of low energy installations and solar panels
An optimal microclimate is achieved through a targeted orientation of the buildings protecting against the impact of direct wind and heat
Our stakeholder engagement approach in this project will continue to serve as a dialogue platform between developers
institutions and legislators on how to design and deliver future urban spaces
The framework sets purposeful relationships to be formed between future users
by providing guidance on how businesses and communities can come together and innovate in future working environments.

SearchSportpark Pioneers - Hoofddorp PioniersMichael RusignuoloJul 16
The Pioniers don’t have as long a pedigree as some other Dutch baseball teams
but they quickly picked up a corporate sponsor
in 1969 and were known as the Konica Minolta Pioniers until as recently as 2010
Looking to bounce back after the separation–and returning to their original name of Hoofddorp Pioniers–the Pioniers started an ambitious new stadium project that looked to lure the MLB to Dutch shores
The 1,000-seat Sportspark Pioneers opened in 2014
The $13-million stadium is the newest in the league and the only one to compete with Rotterdam for title of the best in the country
even going so far as shipping in tons of American clay for the playing surface foundation
but they still hope to attract the MLB in the future
Sportpark Pioneers is the newest and best baseball facility in the country
but it both benefits and suffers from its location in a suburb right next to Schiphol Airport
Even if this ballpark is designed to attract the MLB
the food and drink options are on a small scale
All the consumables are found in the “DuckOut,” the bar/lounge on the second floor of the clubhouse
There is a wide selection of cold and hot sandwiches and sausages (€3.50 and under)
There is a requisite selection of frites (€2.30 and under
Beer is served up at the large U-bar in the DuckOut
There is a small selection of mostly regional brews (Hertog Jan
Coke rules the roost for your non-alcoholic beverages
Take your pick of local beers and try some Dutch meatballs (€4.95 for 10)
Popping these while watching the game may make you a convert from corn dogs
Sportpark Pioneers is one the premiere baseball facilities in The Netherlands
with only Rotterdam to contest them for the title
Most of the Honkbal Hoofdklasse stadiums are about the level of Rookie-level ball in the American minors
but this stadium is easily on the AA facilities level
The seating area of the park is located behind a three-level building that serves as the stadium facade
An automatic rotating door provides access
On the ground floor are the small team store
Doors lead out onto the main deck overlooking the field
The third level is taken up by a professional announcer’s booth that has the best view of the field
Smoking is still quite popular in The Netherlands
and the patio overlooking the seats has several picnic tables with ashtrays built in
as well as two small plazas at either end of the building
Stairs run down at intervals to the one row of seats that runs from about first base above the home dugout to about third base above the visiting dugout
The seats themselves are modern fold-down models
a rarity in a league with mostly molded plastic monstrosities
A digital scoreboard sits in left-center above the outfield wall
against the backdrop of trees and a few buildings
As is the case in most Honkbal Hoofdklasse games
there are no mascots or between-innings entertainment you will have come to expect in all levels of American baseball
for in addition to the batter walk-up music and Seventh Inning Stretch
the press box will also throw in minor league standard sound effects
such as breaking glass when a foul ball heads towards the parking lot
The Dutch don’t even play the national anthem before games or fly their flag
there are some nice vestiges of sportsmanship
Each batter coming the plate for the first time usually shakes the hand of the umpire and the opposing catcher
You can sit wherever you want except in the dugout
Spread out on a picnic table on the plaza or grab a seat behind home plate so close you can have a legitimate beef with the umpire
There are the good and the bad with being right next to the airport
you do okay with restaurants and really well with hotels
There are a good number of restaurants a short distance from the park
Right by the park is the hip eatery Toolenburg Restaurant Long Island
The locale by the airport doesn’t provide much for attractions
There are a couple of minor historic sights nearby
but all your points of major interest lies in Haarlem to the northwest and Amsterdam to the northeast
Being this close to the nation’s major airport means that there are hotels aplenty
Closest to the park is the Floriande Bed & Breakfast
and just to the north are Courtyard by Marriott Amsterdam Airport
There’s a dozen more slightly further to the east and perhaps a hundred within a short drive
as it is known locally) is very much a fringe sport in The Netherlands
The Dutch Honkbal Hoofdklasse is one of the only semi pro/professional leagues on the continent
sharing the distinction with the Italian Baseball League
The Pionier’s regular season games get the average Dutch crowds across the league (between 100-250 people per game)
After games and practices at the surrounding ball fields end
the players and spectators come over to watch the top-level men play
Another out-of-the-ordinary status quo is that there are usually pet dogs at every game
Those fans that are there (both home and visitor alike) are into the game
A small fan base is generally a dedicated one
and they are into the action as the game went on to conclusion
Although it is only a short distance from the nation’s main airport
it is pretty hard to get to Sportpark Pioneers unless you drive
Given the overall efficiency of Dutch public transit
it is difficult to get to Sportpark Pioneers
You have to use two buses (Connexxion Bus 300 to Connexxion Bus 169 to Sportc
€3.51) taking over a half hour and for a relatively expensive price
You’re better off driving or taking a cab or ride share from the airport
which is only a 10-15 minute trip for not a lot more money
The stadium has its own parking lot attached to the stadium
and cabs and ride shares can drop off right at the front gate
The only entrance to the stadium is the main gate outside the parking lot
Entrance to the seating areas are either through the main building grandstand or stairs at the end of either terminus
There is a large plaza outside the park that lets you walk around and access the other fields in the complex
There is a spacious walkway at the top of the grandstand leading down to the seats and ending in two raised plazas at either end of the clubhouse
There is no admission fee for Sportpark Pioneers
(They’ll need to fix that situation if they want the MLB to show up.)
Most of the food and drinks are €3.50 or under
shareable food items are more than that (and well worth the cost for what you get)
The clubhouse has a selection of baseball memorabilia
The team store in the first level sells a selection of generic baseball merchandise and a small set of team and league goodies
There is a small playground outside the park for kids
and the main facade of the stadium has a whimsical giant bat column holding it up
including five retired numbers on the outfield wall
the plazas on either side of the grandstand named in memory of local baseball luminaries (Van Zullien and Fysio Cura)
the plaza in front of the park named for another local baseball legend (Koene)
and two plaques in the building honoring softball sponsors and the Club of 100
As Dutch clubhouse personnel are almost all volunteers
they are polite and helpful to a person and are always glad to talk to and assist visitors
Sportpark Pioneers was built to attract the attention of the MLB
and it certainly can turn heads with its new
but it is hard to get there without driving
and it must content with the double-edge sword of being right next door to a major airport

MVRDV and Hyde Park BV have unveiled their design proposal of Hoofddorp's Station Quarter
a project that aims to transform the area around the existing station into an ecofriendly and affordable urban district
The masterplan will offer 8,500 housing units and renovated train
providing a solution to the housing shortage and access to public transportation without compromising the quality of living
The design is inspired by the rigid grid structure typical of the Dutch Haarlemmermeer lowlands. The district's sustainable approach is explored through the integration of a lot of greenery and water, as well as car-free streets and canals. The architects designed the plan with varying spacious urban blocks with inner courtyards, greenery, and water features. In addition, all apartments benefit from a flow of sunlight due to sun cuts pierced through the roofs.

Passionate about European baseball since 2007
During a press conference on Thursday in Hoofddorp
Netherlands it was announced that the construction of a new baseball stadium (for more renderings see gallery below) can begin
With the new stadium of the Vaessen Pioniers the Netherlands and with it European Baseball will meet the requirement to host MLB regular season games
Organizers promote a so-called “Amsterdam Series”
which is a possibility as soon as 2014 or 2015
However while Major League Baseball has been involved in the project from the beginning talks between the organizers and MLB about the option of regular season games in the new Hoofddorp stadium are yet to begin
MLB only has acknowledged so far in a letter that games could be played there in either 2014 or 2015
who attended the press conference wouldn’t commit to yes or no on this matter
Additionally it seems that the stadium also could be in line to host a World Baseball Classic event in the future
which not only include the new Vaessen Pioniers stadium
features several fields and is part of a development project “Park 21”
All fields meet the requirements for national and international events of KNBSB
The main baseball stadium will have clubhouses
MLB sufficient lights and a capacity of 600 on the grandstand
However the setup of the complex allows the construction of temporary seats to bring the capacity to 30,000
According to a study by the College of Haarlemmermeer Major League Baseball games would bring between €1.4 to 5.4 million to the Haarlemmermeer region with €3.5 million the most likely estimate
Looking at the whole Amsterdam Metropolitan Area the effect would be even significantly larger
The “Amsterdam Series” would be an “excellent opportunity to present Amsterdam to the world as the interest in baseball at this level is global”
Besides the goal to host MLB regular season games in the stadium
the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation (KNBSB)
which was represented by Technical Director Robert Eenhoorn at the press conference
wants to use the stadium also as home base for its national teams including coaching staffs
Jason Holowaty of MLB International said in a phone interview with Mister-Baseball.com that the new stadium will be huge for European Baseball and it opens up new development opportunities
The new sports complex is scheduled to be ready for use by March 1
right in time for the start of the Dutch baseball and softball season
Dutch national railway NS has been running more trains on two routes since Tuesday
The Sprinter service on the Amsterdam Centraal - Almere Centrum route will also now be operating during off-peak hours up to 8 p.m
the NS only ran the Sprinter train during rush hour from Monday to Thursday
and immediately before and after the peak periods
This was sometimes supplemented with a few other trains
the Sprinter train on the Amersfoort Vathorst - Hoofddorp route will continue to Hoofddorp on weekdays until 10 p.m
the train only operated between Amersfoort Vathorst and Amsterdam Centraal in the off-peak hours
The route also includes stops at Sloterdijk
and this is what the passengers want,” said a spokesperson for NS
“And now we saw the opportunity to change it.”
She added that the inclusion of extra trains has nothing to do with growth in staffing levels
The NS was forced to scrap trains in the last few years due to a lack of staff

Serge Schoemaker Architects has completed the decade-long restoration and renovation of a historic Dutch military fort into a new public cultural destination
Built in 1904 and stretching over 8,100 sq m
the Hoofddorp Fort is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam
With the architectural heritage kept and restored
the fort is now a new urban park for leisure
Embedded into the landscape and covered with a layer of earth
the fort consists of a labyrinth of spaces set across two floors
Its walls and vaults are made of thick unreinforced concrete
The fort complex includes two freestanding gun turret buildings topped by domes that are connected to the main building by underground corridors
which have now been restored to their original condition
Two new staircases have been added to improve access to the fort
Two vertical double-height spaces have also been created within
which draw light and air into the interior
The fort has been partly restored and partly left untouched
to balance the contemporary needs of public use – and preservation from decay – with historic authenticity
Amsterdam-based Serge Schoemaker Architects designed specific and carefully integrated new additions which aim to complement the original architecture
new timber walls and sleek steel elements combine with rough untreated concrete walls
and modern light fittings accompany illuminated candle niches
The whole building has been fitted with a thin underfloor heating system and the air-treatment system with heat recovery makes use of historical built-in air ducts
New pipes are integrated into the screed floor and the roof structure to preserve character of the interior
A ‘fort pathway’ has been added to the site allowing visitors to walk directly from the forecourt to the outdoor area on higher ground as well
where a small open-air theatre and a terrace garden are located

ZPCH had two teams competing in the group section
highlighting the club’s approach to the sport: a talent team and a recreational team
The team consisted of five swimmers: Noortje Reijnen
Ilse de Heij (all from Hoofddorp) Zärrin Sahertian (from Nieuw Vennep)
A standard group size should consist of 8 swimmers
A half point is deducted from the total score for each missing swimmer
the ZPCH team was a point ahead of Cadans’s team and was more than five points ahead of ACZ’s team
ZPCH’s second team was made up of seven swimmers: Lina Baoudi
Orane Brunsting (from Nieuw Vennep) and Adrienne van der Brugge (from Hillegom)
They came in a very decent 10th place in the overall ranking
Charlotte Brand was present in Zoetermeer as ZPCH’s head coach
Brand stated: “With our teams taking gold and 10th place
and silver for our soloist and duet … that is what you really sign up for
It is the reward for all the consistent hard work in the training sessions
It also shows that ZPCH’s talent and recreational teams go hand in hand
The pride and joy which the swimmersradiate is great to experience
It all adds up to the good vibe in preparation for the Synchrobeat
the Dutchchampionships that are taking place in Eindhoven at the end of June
Our Whitsun weekend could not get any better

an expert in the area of Dutch colonial history
wrote the text for a slavery remembrance memorial that was unveiled on 1 July in Hoofddorp
The official abolition of slavery was proclaimed 155 years ago on 1 July 1863
On Sunday 1 July 2018 the national remembrance of the Netherlands’ slavery past took place
the national Slavery Remembrance Day is still not an official national remembrance day
offered an expression of regret for the slavery past on behalf of the government
have previously asked for an official apology from the Dutch government
many people hope that the government will apologise
offering an apology is so important that it should come from the head of state and not a minister
It’s something that people are waiting for
Karwan: ‘1 July is starting to become part of our collective memory and is included much more in our education
It’s becoming part of the national identity and our self-image
for communities that wish to join with each other in remembrance of slavery
‘I was recently at the unveiling of a slavery memorial in Hoofddorp
This makes it the fourth city with a memorial
In Hoofddorp too there are people who are descendants of the enslaved
The municipality of Haarlemmermeer doesn’t have a direct link with the slavery past
but the executive councillor spoke about how
when a lot of money was being put into building dykes to drain the land of Haarlemmermeer
the abolition of slavery was considerably delayed for financial reasons
This says a lot about the attitude in those times.’
‘We’re still not aware enough of how the colonial past continues to have effects in the present
It would be good to talk about this more in Dutch education
It would have to be done on a structural basis
because then you can also explain the different facets of this history
It’s important to understand why there are still Caribbean parts of the Kingdom and that people from Suriname aren’t newcomers
but have been part of Dutch history for a very long time
This can give a clearer understanding of why the Netherlands is as it is today
and how the past still has effects in the present.’
‘The memorials and remembrances that are now organised in many cities are an important aspect of the growing awareness of the colonial roots of the present day
so I felt highly honoured when Haarlemmermeer municipal council asked me to help with developing their memorial: both the text on the memorial itself
and the accompanying text on a stone next to the memorial
The memorial itself bears a quotation from its initiator
Elaine Veldema: “What happened then is not yet over” (Wat gebeurd is
‘The council didn’t want it to be an exclusively Suriname-Netherlands memorial
so for the memorial itself I chose to include several abolition dates: first the slave trade
and finally in 1863 in Suriname and on the Caribbean islands
‘For the accompanying text it was a challenge to give a nuanced explanation in just a few words
which does justice to the extreme violence
the historical context and the present-day relevance
“Descendants of the enslaved are to be found in all parts of the Netherlands
when international law and human rights did not exist
people were dragged violently into Dutch history
what followed was often a short and traumatic life
Since the abolition of slavery was proclaimed worldwide
The abolition of slavery is one of the fundamental principles of human rights
there are still people who live in modern slavery.”’
you see that people who came out of slavery at that time found it extremely important to obtain a piece of land
Wherever it might be: part of a former plantation or in the city
having a piece of land meant that as free people they could start to become attached to a new place
Owning land and being able to pass it on to subsequent generations was incredibly important for those people
and land ownership in Suriname is hopelessly fragmented
People from Suriname often complain about the inheritance problems with dividing estates and the family arguments that these cause
all those land ownership leftovers are the link between themselves and the beginning of their ancestors’ emancipation

The public transport systems in Dutch cities are at risk of stagnating or deteriorating due to decisions by the national government to either cancel or block funding for improvement projects, said labor union FNV Spoor and public transport passenger association Rover in interviews with AD
The union said it demonstrated "short-term thinking" by national politicians who only want to approve projects that can be completed quickly
and which will not cost them voter support over time
“There is a real need to invest in a robust
reliable and fine-meshed public transport network
But because investments in public transport will only become visible in ten years
they may be afraid that it will cost votes now," said Henri Janssen from FNV Spoor
He advocates for a multi-year long-term vision to bolster the local networks
the caretaker Cabinet withdrew the 1.7 billion euros it pledged to help fund the extension of the Noord-Zuid metro line
The route currently runs between the Buikslotermeer neighborhood in Amsterdam-Noord to Station Zuid in the city's financial district
Amsterdam wants to extend the metro line to Schiphol Airport and Hoofddorp
There is also local political support to extend the route in the opposite direction to Zaandam and Purmerend
the City Council dropped plans to construct another metro tunnel
The city went for the bridge because of a belief they would miss out on hundreds os millions of euros of funding from the national government
Both Amsterdam and Rotterdam metro projects would have paid off in the long-run
“The government is slowing down municipalities
“There really needs to be a national vision on mobility
We now have to make a plan for the coming decades
Amsterdam said it will drop its metro extension and the Zuidasdok project if the national government does withdraw the 1.7 billion euros
“It is time for the government to take a much more integrated look at transporting people,” said Rover director Freek Bos
“If we want to be able to take everyone where they want to be
the roadways will remain clogged by traffic jams
and the municipalities will be hamstrung and unable to develop their local public transport networks
“You can see it in the traffic jams in cities
but also offer good public transport,” said Janssen
“That is much more attractive for society than going bumper to bumper through the city.”
you have a beach tent - recovery: Beach House - in Hoofddorp
That is indeed not near the sea but near a lake
That's nothing new: Papa's Beach House has been around since 1989 (!)
But we've only just picked up the love for Papa here - little did we know
making the beach bar near Amsterdam a new favorite
At the IJweg in Hoofddorp you can have a really relaxing lunch by the water
And that's exactly what a beautiful (late) summer day requires if you ask us
and an extra thumbs up for the friendly service – a relief
There are plenty of tasty (and also semi-family) on the menu for the small stuff and if it is really hot
we can cool off in the water (bring your swimming armbands!) while you enjoy the food from the terrace with your feet in the sand
On the 'other side' of Hoofddorp – Papa's Beach attracts one thing
Nice to hang out and a perfect place to have a drink in the evening when the heat is still in the air and it is too early to dive into your much too warm nest
And so you don't want to go to the overly busy beaches
The Cabinet laid out plans for 7.5 billion euros in infrastructure spending that includes 4 billion euros to improve rail service
The majority of this money will be spent in the Randstad region and Noord-Brabant
according to plans that the Cabinet sent to the Tweede Kamer on Monday
Included in the project is the money needed to extend the Noord/Zuidlijn
a metro line running from Amsterdam-Noord to the city’s Station Zuid
to give people another connection to Hoofddorp and Schiphol Airport
The Cabinet is spending heavily on the necessary infrastructure projects to serve newly constructed residential areas
The Cabinet wants to build more than 900,000 new homes by 2030
most of which will be in the Randstad region
About 65 percent of the money will be spent in the Randstad
more than 1.5 billion euros will go to improving stations and the railroad between Leiden and Dordrecht
Around 77,000 homes will be built along this route through 2040
625 million euros will be earmarked for new river crossings
the government is investing in will spend money on the Zuidasdok at the Amsterdam Zuid station
and the completion of the metro ring in Amsterdam
which theoretically would make the Haven-Stad more accessible by extending the subway from Isolatorweg past the new district to Central Station
the Amsterdam Noord/Zuidlijn will also be extended from Station Zuid to Schiphol and Hoofddorp
This has been lobbied as a critical piece of infrastructure that can boost regional transportation not just to the airport
but for the west side of the Amsterdam region as a whole
The national government will spend 4.1 billion euros on the Amsterdam metropolitan region alone
Other parties will also need to commit another 1.3 billion euros
The region expects to be home to 270,000 new jobs to be created by 2050
which means that more infrastructure will be needed
the region also wants to have constructed 325,000 additional homes
more than 800 million euros will go to the Brainport Eindhoven region
There must be a so-called "multimodal hub" with "enough space for the growing number of travelers by bus
Investments are also being made further outside the Randstad region
including 30 million euros earmarked for a better rail connection between Enschede and Münster
and 150 million euros will go to the RegioExpres in Gelderland
This shortens the travel time between Winterswijk and Arnhem by thirteen minutes
For those passengers connecting to the Randstad
The plans do not yet state how the situation will progress with the Lelylijn
It was already agreed that 3 billion euros would be committed to the project
but it is still unknown where the train route will be placed
The Cabinet is also allocating more money for cycling infrastructure
the government wants to build more biking routes and bicycle parking facilities
There will also be new tunnels and bridges for cyclists and pedestrians

The police arrested a 35-year-old man from Hoofddorp on Wednesday in connection with a bloody, decapitated doll left at Emir Sultan Mosque in Amsterdam Noord in January
Passersby found the doll in front of the mosque early on Thursday
January 18th and reported it to the police
The police immediately launched an investigation
"The suspect is known to be driven by ideological motives"
He has no previous violent crime incidents on his record
The incident with the doll prompted interim Amsterdam mayor Jozias van Aartsen to raise concerns about minorities increasingly being targeted in Amsterdam
He met with members of the Muslim community after the doll was found
It was seen by mothers and especially children from the school in front of the mosque
the mayor said in a city council debate on the incident
