Ryan Al Najjar, an 18-year-old woman from Joure whose body was found a week ago in Leylstad, was the victim of an “honor killing,” people who know the family told the Telegraaf
Ryan’s father killed her because the very religious family could not tolerate her lifestyle
The young woman’s body was found in the water along Knardijk on May 28
a 22-year-old man from Joure and a 24-year-old man from Leeuwarden
he informed family members where to find Ryan’s body
Khaled worked in a shoe factory in Lebanon
They fled to Turkey when the war broke out and arrived as asylum seekers in the Netherlands two years later
In an interview with the Leeuwarder Courant
the family was described as a “model family.” A son told the newspaper that he’d like to tell people uncertain about Muslims to “give us the opportunity to get to know each other.” Khaled said he hoped to return to Syria when there was peace one day
he wanted his kids to “grow up in freedom.”
One of Ryan’s sisters wrote about her on social media after her death
she posted: “My sister is in the protection of Allah
may have been the victim of an honor killing
the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reported
The body of the young woman was found in the water on May 28 on the Knardijk in Lelystad
They are accused of committing the murder together
De Telegraaf and the Leeuwarder Courant have already published extensively about the case; both papers received an alleged confession from somebody who said that he was the father of the girl
The OM is now reporting that he is suspected of involvement with the murder of his daughter
There are clues that the man is currently in Syria
The victim stayed in Rotterdam in the days before the body was found the victim
the police reported in a new plea for witnesses to come forward
She was said to have been taken to Lelystad in a dark-colored Saab station wagon with several people in it
Police are looking for people who saw the Saab on May 27 at 10 p.m
They are also asking for footage of the car and its occupants
Prosecutors would not comment on the case earlier due to the two suspects being under restrictions
which means that they were only allowed to contact their lawyer
"In the view of the Public Prosecution Service
it is no longer necessary in the interest of the investigation that the two have no contact with the outside world other than with their lawyer."
The first public hearing in this case is planned for September 13 in Lelystad
Ryan’s body was found in the water along the Knardijk in Lelystad on May 28
She was last seen alive in Joure on May 22
via an email address linked to the man’s courier company in Leeuwarden
The newspaper received a response on Tuesday afternoon
the newspaper wrote after asking an Arabic interpreter to look at the text
The email reads: “I ask you to publish that I am the one who killed” and “I was very angry with her.”
He did not elaborate on the motive for his daughter’s murder
“The reason for the murder is between me and the judge
The courts of the Netherlands are fair and do not treat anyone unfairly.”
Earlier this week, the police arrested two men for involvement in Ryan’s death. The suspects are 22 and 24 years old from Joure and Leeuwarden. Several media outlets, including the Telegraaf
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) seized the emails after the Telegraaf asked it for a response, NOS reports
A spokesperson for the Midden-Nederland police told the broadcaster that the police can make no comments about the emails or the identity of the arrested suspects
which means that they are only allowed contact with their lawyers
and the authorities can’t provide information about them
THE watch brand that is specialized in astronomical complications
What better way to celebrate this memorable moment with a timepiece that says it all: the Real Moon Joure 40Y
The most precise three-dimensional moon phase indication on a wrist watch comes with a stylish dark blue guilloche dial
with numbered plate and Christiaan van der Klaauw’s signature
Christiaan van der Klaauw is probably the only watchmaker in the world
who exclusively focusses on astronomical complications and has been doing that for 40 years
This years it is 40 years ago that Christiaan Van Der Klaauw made his first astronomical clock
Although the daily management of the company is now in the hands of Daniel Reintjes
Christiaan van der Klaauw is still very much involved
This important moment marks a perfect time to look back at what Christiaan Van Der Klaauw
Christiaan van der Klaauw (1944) was born in Leiden, the same city where Christiaan Huygens, inventor of the pendulum clock
During his study at the Instrument-making School in Leiden
the young Christiaan Van Der Klaauw did some work at the observatory in Leiden
This is actually the world’s oldest observatory connected to a university
and that’s where and when Christiaan fell in love with the stars and planets
where he went to work at a clockmaker’s atelier where they mainly worked on Frisian pendulum clocks
It wasn’t until 1994 before Christiaan Van Der Klaauw presented his first wrist watch, the Satellite du Monde – one that we of course covered for you here
day/night indication and the place on earth where it exactly 12 o’clock (noon)
equipped with the smallest mechanical planetarium in the world
which is Van CLeef & Arpels’ most complicated watch ever
It features a Planetarium module that is manufactured exclusively for Van Cleef & Arpels by Christiaan Van Der Klaauw
In our previous article about the Real Moon Joure, we explained everything about the wrist watch with the most precise three-dimensional moon phase indication. Please look here for that article
For this article we’ll suffice with a shorter description and the specifications of this blue dial
on a steel guilloche and black DLC coated rotor
All Christiaan Van Der Klaauw timepieces have a decorated rotor
The CVDK Real Moon Joure 40Y is limited to 40 numbered pieces
Recommended retail price is € 19,940 EURO / $ 25,840 USD / CHF 25,940
Interesting facts: The moon rotates around the earth every 29,530588853 days
The hand-made three-dimensional miniture moon indicates the moon phase so accurately that it deviates only one day in 11.000 years
It is the most accurate three-dimensional moon phase in the world ever incorporated in a mechanical watch
We’d like to congratulate Christiaan van der Klaauw for this immense achievement
and thank him for the horological and astronomical beauty he created
And this is the CVDK moon phase module that is placed atop the movement
although these are usually only seen by the watchmaker

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer De'Joure Mercer
who fatally shot and killed Dreasjon Reed in May 2020
has filed a complaint against the NFL claiming Mercer suffered injuries and damages in response to its publications
District Court in the Southern District of Indiana
says the NFL's social media posts and campaign including Reed caused Mercer to suffer "severe emotional and reputational injury in his personal and professional capacities," emotional distress
personal physical injury and millions of dollars of damages and financial losses throughout his life
substantial compensatory damages for an amount to be determined at trial
the NFL be held liable for the reputational harm
the NFL published a video a part of its "Say Their Stories" campaign
The video included the names and pictures of Reed
During the video
the NFL also mentioned the NFL would honor the "victims of social injustice" by wearing their names on their hats and helmets and tell their stories
Reed's name was included on the list of 87 names players could wear
the complaint alleges IMPD Chief Randal Taylor contacted Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Frank Reich and explained Mercer didn't commit police misconduct in connection with Reed's death
A special prosecutor, Rosemary Khoury, was appointed to investigate the deadly shooting. In November 2020, a grand jury declined to indict Mercer
Right after Khoury announced the grand jury's decision, Indiana State Police, which investigated the shooting, presented the detective's findings of the incident
the NFL tweeted a caption and picture of Reed
noting Reed was "one of the many individuals being honored by players and coaches this season through the NFL’s helmet decal program." A Facebook post with the same photo and caption was also posted to the NFL's page on the same day
Say His Name: Dreasjon ReedDreasjon is one of the many individuals being honored by players and coaches this season through the NFL’s helmet decal program.#SayTheirStories: https://t.co/vwi75WmNxr pic.twitter.com/wWaasw6LBp
Following Reed's death and the NFL's publications, according to the complaint, Mercer received death threats and faced public hatred.
The complaint alleges Mercer was also identified and filmed by a woman while he was shopping at a local Walmart as the woman "held her children away from" him as if he "were dangerous" and would "harm her children."
"This incident devastated Mercer and inflicted severe mental anguish," the complaint read.
The complaint also alleges many threats were "inspired by and referred specifically" to the posts from the NFL. One example listed in the complaint is a "wanted" poster with Mercer's image on it. Another picture in the lawsuit, a side-by-side of Reed and Mercer, was "circulated online."
After months of threats and in fear of his own safety, Mercer sold his house where he lived alone and moved in with a friend around December 2020, according to the complaint.
"De’Joure Mercer is a hero," Guy Relford, Mercer's attorney, said. "He tracked down a very dangerous criminal wanted by the police, who was a threat to the citizens of Indianapolis. He put his life on the line and was nearly killed in that effort. He was completely exonerated after an exhaustive investigation into the death of Mr. Reed. For NFL Enterprises then to suggest he was involved in police or racist misconduct is totally false, defamatory and unacceptable."
IMPD says they will not be providing a statement at this time.
WRTV has reached out to Reed's family attorney's office and is attempting to contact the NFL for a response.

"Dozens of dynamic scares" mean that no two playthroughs will be the same
The trailer for new found-footage style horror game Don’t Scream has landed
In the game the player’s goal is do precisely what its title states
Inspired by ’90s found footage film horrors including The Blair Witch Project
Don’t Scream challenges the player to explore the fictional Pineview Forest for 18 minutes
time only passes when the player moves and through “dozens of dynamic scares” (no two playthroughs will be the same)
Check out the trailer for the upcoming game below
What sets Don’t Scream apart from other found-footage horror games is that the player’s microphone must be calibrated to register any sounds that the player makes in real life
“A mere squeak or quiet gasp should be flagged as a scream,” said developer Joure & Joe
but the team of two developers clarified that speaking softly should not trigger the game to end
making it possible for streamers to play with their audience
Developed in Unreal Engine 5, Don’t Scream is expected to enter early access on Steam on October 27
Early access offers Joure & Joe the opportunity to learn from fan feedback to ensure that the game is as scary as possible and has depth as well as breadth
The full version of the game will include a range of events from jump scares to ones that aim to “get under your skin” as well as a backstory on what happened to Pineview Forest
Steam achievements and trading cards will also be added

Don’t Scream will stay the same price after it is finalised
The developer said: “We’re not in this to get rich; we’re here to deliver a terrifying horror experience!”
The inclusion of players’ real voices in games has been seen in titles including Phasmaphobia
but these have used voices as mechanics to interact with the game world

A teenager allegedly murdered by family members last May was being monitored by intense surveillance and was receiving protection from authorities before she was killed. Ryan Al Najjar, 18, was abducted, bound with tape, and drowned in Lelystad
It was not clear why her protection was stopped
Prosecutors have said they believe her family felt disgraced by her involvement and integration in Dutch society
and her father fled to Syria to evade arrest
the Public Prosecution Service (OM) previously indicated
Her protection by the authorities was already ended before she was killed
confirming reporting by the Leeuwarder Courant which was published on Monday
The office also would not say when security started for Al Najjar
who was living in Joure at the time of the slaying
The Leeuwarder Courant requested information from the police and the Public Prosecution Service about Ryan’s security in the period before her death
Information about her was found in the system to log surveillance and security details for individuals
Prosecutors suspect that Al Najjar was the victim of an honor killing, saying they have evidence to indicate that her family thought she acted too much in line with Western beliefs
They were ordered to remain in pre-trial detention in February
The brothers accused her father, Khaled Al N., of carrying out the murder
Prosecutors said his DNA was found on the 18 meters of tape used to restrain his daughter
His DNA also matched forensic evidence found under three of her fingernails
which “indicates she had resisted,” the prosecutor told the District Court in Lelystad in February
Her hands were bound behind her back, her mouth was taped shut, and her ankles were taped together when her body was found in the water near Knardijk by a forest service employee
“If she is lying and causing us to lose even more face
in a text conversation with the other two suspects 12 days before the murder
Other statements were made indicating she should be killed for her behavior in those messages
The young woman’s mother also allegedly wrote
Ryan is a disgrace to the family and deserves to die.”
The next preliminary hearing in the murder case will take place in Lelystad on April 25
and another status hearing is expected on June 30
The trial date will likely take place later this year
Almost two-thirds of last year’s cases involved threats or assault
Almost a quarter of honor violence incidents last year involved Syrians
Syrian people’s overrepresentation is due to the inflow of refugees in recent years
Over 150,000 Syrians now live in the Netherlands
The police have asked the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment whether it should pay more attention to this topic in its integration course
“Newcomers must be made aware that choosing a partner in the Netherlands is an individual’s right,” said Wilfred Janmaat
head of the police’s National Expertise Center for Honor-related Violence
“If this is not happening enough at the moment
Previous studies have shown that honor-related violence occurs when women want more freedom of movement or a divorce once they are in the Netherlands
Men also experience a loss of status when they are no longer the breadwinner
a cultural anthropologist and criminologist affiliated with the police’s expertise center
“Being exposed to war violence can lead to psychological problems
but it can also lower the threshold for committing violence yourself."

2024 Photo: DutchNews.nlMore attention should be paid to individual rights for women during the Dutch integration process as reports of honour-based violence are mounting
Some 619 cases of honour-related abuse were reported last year to the dedicated police unit Landelijk Expertisecentrum Eergerelateerd Geweld
whose number has grown to 150,000 over the years
are relatively often the perpetrators of the violence
a quarter of the honour-related incidents concerned Syrians
Two-thirds of the cases involved threats and physical abuse while other frequently reported instances were about control
Four women were victims of so-called honour killings
It is unclear if the rise means more honour-based violence is taking place or that more incidents are being reported
Police have asked the social affairs ministry to include the issue in the educational material used in the integration process
“It must be made clear to newcomers that choosing a partner is the right of the individual in this country,” chief of the dedicated police unit Wilfred Janmaat told broadcaster NOS
“If that is not already happening then it should.”
Research has shown that honour-related violence often occurs when the wives of Syrian refugees demand more freedom of movement or want a divorce once they are in this country
Syrian men also experience a loss of status because they have lost their position as provider
cultural anthropologist and criminologist said Janine Janssen
who assists police in dealing with cases of honour-based violence
“Exposure to the violence of war can lead to psychological problems but can also lower the threshold for individuals to become violent themselves,” she said
“A conflict can escalate into a killing,” Janssen said
On Friday, two men from Joure in Friesland are on trial for the murder of their sister Ryan
Ryan’s body was found dumped n the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve
Her father is also a suspect but he has left the country and may have gone back to Syria
He told the Telegraaf he was taking responsibility for killing his daughter
forced to wear a headscarf and about to enter into a forced marriage when she was killed
“Girls who lose their virginity outside marriage
or who choose a partner the family doesn’t approve of while the girl has been promised to someone else are triggers for major conflict,” Janssen said
Group pressure also plays a part because the honour of the family is not only a matter for the father but also of brothers and uncles
Most victims are female but men who are gay or in an adulterous relationship are also under threat
Social media are making the situation even more complex
a boy may ask a girl to send him a sexy photo and it ends up being seen by her relatives her or abroad,” he said
It is a mistake to think honour-based violence only happens in families with an Islamic background
Incidents like this involve people from all over the world,” she told the broadcaster
