2024 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by her loving family
daughter of the late Richard and Dorothy (Krueger) Wendt. On May 6
1972 she married Robert Lemmer at St John Catholic Church
Edgar. He preceded her in death November 25
Sharon Lemmer will leave a legacy of love. She will be remembered for her heart of gold
and unconditional love. Everyone who played cards with her will remember the metaphorical golden horseshoe she most always seemed to have. Her friends will always remember her kindness and generosity. And her family will remember her for the fountain of love that she embodied. Sharon gave tirelessly and selflessly to any and all in need. Her charitableness was legendary
Sharon together with her late husband Robert instilled in their children an undeniable faith in God
the most important of all things is love.
love meant her family. The only thing that would make her face light up more than her children walking through her door
was seeing her grandchildren (and great grandchildren) walk through that door. And that happened at least every Sunday for their family dinners
knew Sundays meant the world to her because it meant a day spent with her family
The family of Sharon would like to thank all of her friends and family. Whether you brought her chocolate
flowers or company. Whether it was a phone call
or it was for the weekly card game. You made a difference in her life
and brought her joy. And for that we are eternally grateful
Kenny (Ruth) Wendt and Linda Schreier and many nieces
Alan Wierzba will preside. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church

Crystal Lemmer's first real estate investment was born from necessity: she and her partner
needed a place to live on their own and raise their infant son
with no rental history and just his income
and bought and remodeled a Bay View duplex − which provided rental income to help make their monthly mortgage payment
I could see the bigger picture," Lemmer said
and her partner operate multiple residential rental properties on Milwaukee's south side
And Lemmer, whose main job is managing director of IT operations at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, is expanding into commercial real estate
She's buying from the City of Milwaukee a corner parcel
with two vacant buildings: a two-story house and a single-story commercial building − with the latter fronting on West Rogers Street
Lemmer plans to first remodel and then rent out the single-family home
She will then focus on renovating the dilapidated commercial building
into a café − which Lemmer plans to operate
The project will cost approximately $125,000
not including the $5,000 purchase price − which the Common Council approved on March 4
The city acquired the property in 2023 through property tax foreclosure
Lemmer plans to complete her purchase this spring
and has a goal of finishing the project within 18 months
Her development plan was praised by Common Council President Jose Perez
"I look forward to it," Perez said at a Feb
"That (commercial) building's been blighted for a while."
Lemmer approached the Department of City Development about buying the property because she owns a vacant lot east of the commercial building
Lemmer plans to eventually develop that parcel
Cafe will have a community focusThe café will feature a community focus
providing a place for people to come together
Lemmer plans to host events that include coffee tastings
The café would be about two blocks west of a city-owned outdoor skate park planned for 507 W
Lemmer said her development amounts to "a good starter project" for her first move into commercial real estate
And it comes after years of investing in residential real estate
Her interest in real estate has its roots in family car rides on Lake Drive
"I was always fascinated by architecture," she said
learned about construction trades at Bradley Technology and Trade School
She was a student at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse when she became pregnant with her first child
and transferred to UW-Milwaukee to be closer to her family
Lemmer and her partner bought the Bay View duplex after their rental applications were rejected
"We decided if no one was going to rent to us," she said
The couple's knowledge of construction trades proved valuable when they put a lot of work into updating the duplex − a project helped by family members
the couple bought their second residential rental property in the Wilson Park neighborhood
Meanwhile, Lemmer in 2024 enrolled in Associates in Commercial Real Estate. The Milwaukee program trains people of color for careers in real estate development
the 26-week program provides classroom instruction
and networking with peers and industry professionals
"That was an amazing opportunity," said Lemmer
Lemmer was an exceptional student in last year's ACRE program
director of Vieth Institute for Real Estate Leadership at Marquette University − which helps operate ACRE
Hunt said Lemmer's development proposal is a good application of ACRE's lessons to the real world
"This is exactly what she was trained for," Hunt said
who has four children ages 7 months through 12 years old
is taking a more purposeful approach to real estate
"I'm a big believer that anything which can impact my children deserves my commitment," she said
And commercial development can play a big role in improving neighborhoods
The Sixth Street development could set the stage for other projects Lemmer wants to bring to neglected Milwaukee neighborhoods
"There's tons of (potential sites) throughout the city."

walked into a bank looking for a business loan
his pitch did not resonate with potential financial backers
The first Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux opened in 2003 in Baton Rouge
where Landry logged 7 minutes of playing time his senior season at LSU and earned a “C” grade for a class project on starting up a new sports bar business
one of more than 80 locations in 16 states
opened at 1127 SW Pine Island Road in Cape Coral
where Landry partnered with longtime local restaurateur Len Lemmer and his family
The Lemmer family owns Nervous Nellie’s on Fort Myers Beach and Cantina Laredo at Bell Tower shopping center in south Fort Myers
The Walk-On’s origin story landed well with Len and Tyler Lemmer
a father-and-son team that has their entire extended families involved with running the businesses
The Lemmer family has combined 196 years of restaurant experience and counting with the opening of Walk-On’s
“All of my general managers in all of my restaurants were at one time either cooks or dishwashers or servers,” Len Lemmer said
from within the four walls of our business
“We want to be that go-to family restaurant for youth athletics in the Cape Coral area
We’re going to be all about getting involved in the Cape Coral community.”
Lemmer said he hopes to open another Walk-On’s in Southwest Florida
with the next location likely to be in Fort Myers
Walk-On’s created some fanfare for its grand opening
having a drawing for free food for a year for one of its first 100 guests
Cape Coral high school football players burst through a Walk-On’s banner just before the 11 a.m
and Cape Coral City Council members were on hand for the ceremonial ribbon cutting
The opening generated about 120 jobs for a restaurant and bar that has two dozen beers on tap
54 big-screen televisions and a menu with most items ranging from $12 to $28.99
with the highest-priced item a Cajun Ribeye steak
The Louisiana Platter has hand-battered jumbo shrimp and catfish served with crawfish etouffee
seasoned waffle fries and hush puppies and costs $26.99
Appetizers include fried alligator ($18.29) and Devils on Horseback ($15.29)
pickled jalapenos wrapped in bacon and honey
When Landry started the chain 22 years ago
sports bars were still thriving across the country
fans can stream most games from the comforts of home
Walk-On’s connects with its surrounding communities and focuses on food and service
“We bring a little different element to the sports bar scene
Food that you don’t typically get in a sports bar
And some of the Cajun dishes you can’t typically get around the country
“We’re going to get involved in the churches and the schools and the Little Leagues
Everything that makes Walk-On’s successful
The COVID-19 pandemic five years ago put a pause on opening new ones
but it also helped Landry evaluate and plan for future openings
Walk-On’s plans on opening between 10 and 12 new locations this year
“We found out during those tough times that sit-down
And if you create a great setting and create a great culture with our team — which we really do live with the walk-on mentality — everyone in this building is as important to the team as the general manager.”

Decca Gold Recording Artist Shulem Lemmer just wrapped up a summer concert tour with shows in 7 cities across North America.
The tour, which was produced by S.I.N.G. Entertainment and directed by Chaim Zippel, began in Chicago, Illinois where Shulem shared the stage with Rabbi Manis Friedman for a beautiful evening marking 30 years since the passing of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
With little rest in between, the tour rolled on the very next day, onto Toronto, Canada with a packed theatre ready to be uplifted and inspired by a special selection of niggunim to be performed by Shulem, and a fascinating talk by Ambassador David Friedman.
Stop #3 was in Stamford, Connecticut before heading across the country to Sacramento, California, and right back to the east coast for a show in Fairfax, Virginia to headline shows honoring the Rebbe’s 30th yahrtzeit.
The tour the continued in the picturesque mountains of Park City, Utah where Shulem headlined a sold-out evening of music and solidarity for Israel. Without a dry eye in the crowd, the audience got to hear first-hand from the mother of hostage Ori Danino, and enjoyed soul-stirring song dedications and tefilos from Shulem.
The tour wrapped up the next night in Montreal, Canada with a sold-out crowd coming from far and near to enjoy a lively and spirited kumzitz.

Haredi singer and cantor Shulem Lemmer has released a new music video of Eden Golan's Eurovision entry Hurricane
using the original title October Rain and the lyrics that were barred from the competition for being 'too political.'
The video also featured scenes of him surrounded by photos of the hostages as he performs
when we're focused on not drowning in the hurricane of hatred and antisemitism
our personal feelings often take a backseat
our hearts and minds have been solely focused on our land and people," he explains
as it conveyed so much of what we've struggled to express in recent months
The original 'October Rain' was deemed "too political" for the world stage
leading to the release of a more neutral version
"I am sharing "October Rain" in its raw
authentic form to voice our nation's true sentiments," he declares
"May the floods dry up with the warm sunshine of the Messiah's arrival!"
staffing issues led to center’s shuttering
ROCHESTER – Parents will lose up to 160 child care spaces at the end of the month when the YMCA of Rochester shuts down its Early Childhood Learning Center
YMCA officials confirmed Friday the center will cease operations on Aug
Community Director Kristina Lemmer said the YMCA’s decision came down to slow enrollment growth
increasing operation costs and staffing shortages
It opened in 2019 in a former charter school on Valleyhigh Drive NW
The center is closing at a difficult time for Rochester
which has sought to increase child care access as the city heads into an expected population boom thanks to Mayo Clinic’s $5 billion downtown expansion
A 2021 Center for Rural Policy and Development study showed that greater Minnesota lost more than 20,000 child care slots over the past two decades
Officials estimate the Rochester area is short by about 1,000 spaces
“The entire community is short on supply and when you’re in full employment like we are now
it’s really hard to recruit folks to go into the business,” said Jon Losness
executive director of Families First of Minnesota
Losness pointed to low wages among child care workers
along with rising child care costs for parents
This is the second major building closing for the YMCA of Rochester, which shuttered its recreation center at the start of 2022. That property was sold to developer Enclave
which tore down the former Y earlier this year as part of an apartment project to build a seven-story complex over the next year
YMCA officials have maintained numerous community programs since the local center closed
including a summer day camp for children at Oxbow Park
a leadership program for middle schoolers at Rochester Public Schools
and ongoing fitness programs at the University of Minnesota-Rochester
Lemmer said the YMCA plans to expand its offerings
including a neighborhood center program for youth after school at Harvestview Place apartments this fall that will offer homework help
we’re willing to help offer and facilitate that service,” Lemmer said

we therefore suggest strengthening the ex ante fundamental rights review of EU legislation
each presenting varying degrees of feasibility and effectiveness
the toolbox currently only provides general guidelines without offering right-specific instructions
they are only required for Commission initiatives “likely to have significant economic
environmental or social impacts or that entail significant spending
and where the Commission has a choice of policy options”
We suggest making a fundamental rights impact assessment systematic
by adding a mandatory separate fundamental rights section to the impact assessments
As it is rather common for EU institutions to outsource these impact assessments to external experts
another suggestion is to establish quality standards for this outsourcing
Once the Commission’s impact assessment has been drafted
the Regulatory Scrutiny Board (RSB) is competent to review its quality
The RSB’s members are however not always specialised in fundamental rights protection
RSB reports do not consistently review whether the impact on fundamental rights has been assessed in a satisfactory manner
A valuable adjustment is to establish a Fundamental Rights Scrutiny Board
specifically in charge of reviewing the quality of fundamental rights impact assessments
one section within the RSB could be dedicated to scrutinising the quality of the fundamental rights impact assessments
ought to be revised to ensure greater independence vis-à-vis the Commission
In order to implement the previous proposals
adjustments to existing soft law instruments could be made
we suggest adopting a new interinstitutional agreement on “Better Fundamental Rights Compliant Regulation”
which would allow the centralization of good fundamental rights practices
the proposals included in this first section would constitute a good – if not entirely novel – first step towards enhanced protection of fundamental rights in EU legislation
even though we recognize that this might signify an additional burden for the institutions’ legislative work
There are several good reasons to involve the FRA in ex ante review mechanisms. Its independent nature according to Article 16 of the FRA Regulation ensures a more neutral and objective assessment of fundamental rights compliance of draft legislation
the internal structure and composition of the FRA guarantee a high degree of knowledge and expertise in fundamental rights matters
there is a diversity and plurality of perspectives represented via the FRA’s composition (e.g
perspectives from the Council of Europe as well as representatives of the European Commission)
This diverse composition gives the Agency legitimacy and authority
also vis-à-vis other actors in the legislative procedure
equipping FRA with new prerogatives could fill an institutional gap: whereas some Member States – such as the Netherlands
or France – have independent institutions advising on the fundamental rights compatibility of draft legislation (i.e.
We envisage two options to involve the FRA more prominently in ex ante control of EU legislation, both requiring amending the FRA Regulation
Our preferred recommendation for reinforcing the FRA’s role is to grant it the right to issue public opinions on fundamental rights compliance of draft legislation on its own initiative
According to the current version of Article 4(2) of the FRA Regulation
FRA may issue an opinion on positions taken by the institutions in the course of legislative procedures only where such a request has been made by the respective institution
By granting it the possibility of giving advisory opinions spontaneously during the legislative process instead
the ex ante review becomes more comprehensive
Such rights of issuing spontaneous opinions already exist in the EU legal order
the European Economic and Social Committee may issue an opinion to the Commission
and the Parliament if it deems it appropriate
The necessary modification of Article 4(2) FRA Regulation – which would require unanimity in the Council following Article 352(1) TFEU – could thus be modelled on this wording
entails a risk of excessive lengthening of the legislative procedure
An answer to this problem could be to establish a one-stop-shop mechanism inside the agency which would be in charge of running a quick (limited) preliminary check in order to decide whether issuing an in-depth opinion is necessary
or whether the procedure can continue before the European Parliament and the Council
This solution would require additional resources for the FRA to properly execute this task without hindering its other functions
Even though such advisory opinions of the FRA would not be binding
they would probably lead to a strengthening of fundamental rights compliance
especially as the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) may take it into account in its reasoning when ruling on annulment actions
the introduction of such abstract pre-emptive review of draft legislation would require a major treaty reform
In the framework of a pre-emptive fundamental rights review
the CJEU could give a binding opinion on the compatibility of an envisaged legislative act with fundamental rights at the very end of the legislative procedure
Such a mechanism could be modelled after the existing mechanism for reviewing the compatibility of envisaged international agreements with EU primary law provided for in Article 218(11) TFEU
Setting up an ex ante judicial review mechanism presents an evident threat of extending excessively the duration of the legislative process
generating abuses in the use of such procedure and overburdening the CJEU
the use of the pre-emptive control procedure would need to be subject to strict admissibility conditions
introducing this procedure should be preceded by a thorough reflection on its interactions and overlaps with the annulment action provided for in Article 263 TFEU
The scopes of the two mechanisms could be separated
by limiting the grounds of ex ante review to fundamental rights-related matters
The constantly growing body of EU secondary legislation in fundamental rights-sensitive fields calls for a serious debate on the potential refinement of ex ante review of EU legislative acts
Whereas the establishment of fully-fledged control mechanisms – similar to those existing in several Member States – of EU legislation would imply a major overhaul of the current institutional setting
significant adjustments may be realised via the improvement of already practiced solutions
A number of the aforementioned refinements such as those concerning the “Better regulation” toolbox or the way impact assessments are conducted constitute changes that could be introduced through the spreading of good practices
potentially coupled with an enhanced involvement of FRA in the legislative process would increase the credibility of the EU in its role as a key player in the field of fundamental rights protection
This publication is the outcome of a workshop (KU Leuven
13-14.6.2024) hosted by the RESHUFFLE project under the direction of Prof
The latter project explores the constitutional implications of the growing influence of the EU on the protection of fundamental rights in Europe; it is funded by the European Research Council under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement n

A little over a month after accepting the position as superintendent of Pennfield Schools
Stephanie Lemmer received her official welcome to Panther country on Monday
Lemmer spent her first day on the job touring the district
and meeting staff and some of the 2,000 students it serves before attending an open house with community members inside the Pennfield high school multimedia center
Acknowledging the uniqueness of taking over as the highest-ranking administrator of a district in the middle of the school year
along with the added challenges of the pandemic and the polarizing debates that surround it
Lemmer said her focus is on bringing stability to the district
"I recognize there is a lot of change happening here," Lemmer said
it seemed like an opportunity to come and be a stable leader and help the community move forward."
Lemmer takes over for interim Superintendent Don Myers
who took on that role after former Superintendent Kevin Simmons resigned from the post before the first day of school in August 2021 amid tensions with the Pennfield Board of Education

After Oxford: Battle Creek area schools, police share responsibility of safety
Lemmer had been superintendent at Centreville Public Schools since 2017
she was director of Head Start for Kalamazoo County (2013-17), principal at Comstock Public Schools (2011-13) and has 20 years of experience in education overall
Lemmer was among 14 applicants for the role at Pennfield
the Pennfield school board named Lemmer as the lone finalist
offered her the position and approved the hiring by a 7-0 vote
The district was assisted in its search by the Michigan Association of School Boards
"We were hopeful we would find somebody that quickly
she hit all the buckets we wanted to fill," said Pennfield Board of Education President Dana Wells-Jenney
"She fits in and is exactly what we were looking for
We were very pleased that we were able to get her as timely as we did
Wells-Jenney added that she was excited for Lemmer to lead the district into its next phase as it implements a 30-year
$30-million bond for facility upgrades that was approved by voters in November 2021
we can start celebrating more successes, celebrating things we should be excited about
celebrating all the wonderful things our students are doing and their accomplishments," Wells-Jenney said. "Stop looking back and start looking forward
And that's something I'm excited about doing with her at the helm."
said her first priority as superintendent is to focus on "staff climate and culture."
so it makes it harder on our staff when they have to carry the weight of the world when they are trying to focus on kids
teaching and learning," she said. "My goal is to be able to alleviate some of that so that our teachers can focus on our students and focus on teaching and learning. I'm going to really try to get to know people and understand what they need from their superintendent to feel supported."
Lemmer said she felt welcomed and supported
and she even received a few words of advice from middle school students who decorated the hallways in her honor
because you'll need it." Recalling the sign
"They understand it's a hard time to be a leader."

Michigan Ross is driving the real-world impact of AI through research
and policy to build a better world through business
There is no single occupation or career designation that properly defines the professional pursuits of Mary Lemmer
She is the founder of Improve
a venture that teaches improv skills to professional organizations
“Everything is designed with the organization in mind,” Lemmer said
“I came from the business world first and speak their language
The improv exercises are a means to achieve the desired outcomes for the companies
It’s like giving people M&Ms that are packed with vitamins
It’s going to be fun and it’s going to be effective in reaching your goals.”
She is also currently involved with, or a founder of, several other companies, including Schox Philanthropy, Startup Late Night, Payitoff, Iorio Gelato
Everything I do is really centered around making an impact
and I choose things to spend time working on that I believe make a positive impact in the world.”
But Lemmer was not always equipped to have such a flexible work schedule or pursue multiple passions at once
“If something didn’t go as I planned it would throw me off into a tailspin of anxiety,” she said
“Though my incredible discipline and scheduling abilities made me an incredibly productive robot
While still in Ann Arbor — after graduating with a BBA from the Ross School of Business — Lemmer decided to enroll in a multi-week improv class to better deal with life’s inevitable chaos
she went to Chicago and participated in improv training at The Second City
especially at the time in her job in venture capital and as an entrepreneur
Not only did improv carry several mental health benefits
including reducing her anxiety and anxiety-inspired ailments
but Lemmer also became better able to handle uncertainty at work
She soon began sharing this knowledge with clients
“People noticed the value as soon as they experienced it or witnessed it,” Lemmer said
“Before then it wasn’t necessarily clear because people didn’t really know what to expect
It’s hard to know what to expect when you haven’t tried something before
Those business leaders and organizations that took that leap and tried it were definitely blown away by how helpful it was.”
she began to charge for training sessions and speaking engagements
She initially held onto her career as a venture capitalist
But then her mom attended one of her speaking engagements in Pittsburgh
Lemmer received some well-timed motherly perspective
“Do you see what's happening?” her mother said
“You led a session this morning for a group of 30 CEOs and you were calm as a cucumber
her vision for Improve changed and has grown to where it is today
Lemmer enrolled at the University of Michigan in 2006 excited to push herself into new and exciting directions
and connected with as many faculty members and professors as possible
“I really appreciated their openness and willingness to help,” she said
went to Professor Andrew Hoffman’s office and told him I admired his work and wanted to help him with his research
I ended up conducting independent research with him and later participating in two of his Sustainable Energy Fellowships.”
Those experiences are part of the reason she still makes it a point to return to campus and give back to the university on a regular basis
Since graduating, Lemmer has conducted several improv workshops for entrepreneurial students, participated in a university lecture series, and spoken to a number of different classes, sometimes teaching improv to as many as 100 Michigan Ross students. She’s also stayed involved with the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies
“Michigan is a huge school and you can carve your own niche and build your own experiences,” Lemmer said
“There’s so much room to create and be proactive
