Last Friday morning, residents of Oisterwijk were shaken by the sound of an explosion. CCTV footage captured the thieves blasting open the doors of MPV Gallery and swiping the pieces from the walls Police have since recovered the getaway vehicle and detained one suspect, though they are still seeking witnesses as their investigation continues. “It is appalling,” gallery owner Mark Peet Visser shares with the Art Newspaper “It is also unprofessional for a criminal to work like this with explosives that are far too heavy and a getaway car that is too small for the works.” A major explosion during a robbery at the MPV Gallery on Dorpsstraat in Oisterwijk late Thursday night left extensive damage in the area described as an art heist involving powerful explosives shattered windows in about ten nearby buildings and caused advertising signs at local shops to break stated that two of the stolen works have been recovered but the other two remain missing though Visser declined to disclose their value in an interview with Hart van Nederland the blast was so powerful that it blew the front door off the gallery allowing the thieves to escape with several valuable artworks The explosion could be heard throughout Oisterwijk Local officials are investigating the robbery and assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the explosion which was later discovered abandoned on Wolvensteeg Authorities cordoned off the area around the vehicle due to concerns that explosives may still be present inside Art detective and theft expert Arthur Brand highlights several noteworthy aspects of the recent heist and the use of explosives indicates that the perpetrators are more serious than traditional art thieves," he told the Telegraaf while art thieves usually target works by old masters The gallery’s collection includes work by British artist Antony Micallef Dutch photographer and painter Marc Mulders Two exhibitions are also currently running featuring works by Frech sculptor Sylvestre Gauvrit and German sculptor and painter Willi Siber Pim Ronhaar and Joris Nieuwenhuis forced to settle for second and third Tibor del Grosso (Alpecin-Deceuninck) secured a stunning victory in the elite men's race at the Dutch Cyclocross Championships in Oisterwijk on Sunday claiming both the elite and under-23 titles in the combined event and reigning under-23 cyclocross World Champion battled for the coveted elite national title on the last lap against rivals Pim Ronhaar (Baloise Glowi Lions) and Joris Nieuwenhuis (Ridley Racing) Lars van der Haar (Baloise Glowi Lion) finished just off the podium in fourth place The elite men lined up for their race upon the completion of the elite women's event won by Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck).  and as the Dutch Nationals were not on his original schedule he did not opt for a last-minute change of plan Van der Poel's teammate Del Grosso nonetheless took the reins early in the elite men's championships event followed quickly by Nieuwenhuis in the opening lap Van der Haar and Corne van Kessel soon reconnected to form a lead group of five Van der Haar was the first to surge but Nieuwenhuis and Ronhaar caught and passed him and he was soon distanced with del Grosso Van Kessel had fallen off the pace entirely With his Baloise Glowi Lions teammate up ahead which meant that the young rider had to close the gap to the leaders on his own Del Grosso made it back up to Nieuwenhuis and Ronhaar on the fifth lap and the trio appeared to be the strongest in the battle for the title during the closing laps Ronhaar surged and gained several seconds on Del Grosso as Nieuwenhuis struggled to regain contact Del Grosso clawed himself back onto Ronhaar's wheel and then attacked in the last metres of the circuit to claim the elite title He finished the race seven seconds ahead of runner-up Ronhaar and 31 seconds ahead of third-placed Nieuwenhuis Results powered by FirstCycling Kirsten has a background in Kinesiology and Health Science She has been involved in cycling from the community and grassroots Oisterwijk on Friday in which two artworks by Andy Warhol were stolen It is unclear whether the art was recovered The thieves set off an explosion at the MPV Gallery on Dorpsstraat in Oisterwijk early on Friday morning and tried to steal the four artworks of Warhol’s Reigning Queens series They managed to make off with two of them - the British Queen Elizabeth and Queen Margrethe of Denmark The portraits of Queen Beatrix and Queen Ntombi Twala were recovered at the gallery a spokesperson for the gallery previously said The police immediately launched an investigation officers raided several locations in Berkel-Enschot The 23-year-old suspect was arrested during the raid in Berkel-Enschot which means that he is only allowed contact with his lawyer The police did not provide any further details Denise Betsema outpowers Marianne Vos for bronze Puck Pieterse conquered her second gold medal at the Dutch National Cyclocross Championships on Sunday soloing home after a dramatic first-lap attack Two key contenders,  World Champion Fem van Empel and defending Dutch National Champion Lucinda Brand were both missing from the start line at Oisterwijk But Pieterse still had to see off some formidable rivals nonetheless A silver medallist last year and the winner in 2023 Pieterse's latest Championships victory adds yet another impressive milestone to the 22-year-old's still incipient career an opening lap saw Leonie van Bentveld make a move but Pieterse delivered a trademark early attack to go clear on the muddy The riders had not even headed through the start/finish area before the Fenix-Deceuninck star opened up a six-second gap on a chase group comprising Vos Hitting the ground running so emphatically so early forced her rivals on the defensive the race had barely begun before it seemed like the battle for gold was over Vos and Alvarado's tussle for second place was a more uncertain one with neither chaser giving ground in the second lap after Alvarado bridged back over to an unevenly firing Visma-Lease a Bike racer while Bentveld and Betsema battled for third Pieterse was obviously in a class of her own carving out an advantage of over 30 seconds on the closest pursuer Alvarado looked to be fading somewhat and after losing touch with Alvarado by lap three she reportedly all but halted in the final lap was in difficulties and ended the race in sixth but that was still enough to secure her the Espoirs National Champion's title storming home alone for her second win of the 2024-2025 season by a hefty 1:11 advantage over Alvarado and giving her father a massive celebratory hug as she crossed the line with Vos lagging by another fifteen seconds But the brutal reality was that one rider - Pieterse - had been head and shoulders above the rest of the Guardian,  ProCycling A lot is known about the refugee issue: numbers, countries involved and their different policies. Little is known about asylum seekers once they have reached Europe This is an insight into the life in a refugee center which,a himVincent is a 23 year old student from Tilburg currently working at the asylum seekers centre in Oisterwijk We met him and asked all those questions you’ve always wanted to ask DM: How many people are hosted here and where are they from The Center hosts about 300 people The majority is from Syria and Eritrea and Iraq are also comingguests from Eastern Europe as Albania some Roma peoplepeople from West Africa and few from East African countries as Tanzania because when you apply for asylum in the Netherlands the practice is sent to the IND organization (Immigration and Naturalization Services) that is in charge to decide and the procedure varies case to case they only obtain it for religion matters or sexual orientation but assessing this can take a large amount of time An Iranian womanexample waited for 4 years in the refugee center before receiving approval for her resident permit But Syrians and Eritreans get the resident permit almost immediately They might wait in the refugee center for a maximum of 2 years but this rarely happens Usually they obtain the refugee status within one year and a half The amount of time needed to get the permit also depends on the municipality where the refugee centre is There are some of those like Tilburg for example which assigns residence permits quicker than others like Den Bosch or Best DM: Are there rules asylum seekers have to abide in the center there are basic regulations that require avoiding noises after 22:00 show up on the day the documents that assess their presence have to be stamped Praying is allowed but religous gathering are not DM: What is the process that asylum seeker undergo when they come to The Netherlands There are three different locations that deal with newcomers:  Ter Apel Gilze and the international airport of Schiphol Schiphol is usually reached by people coming from African countries asylum seekers are kept in a department which is a sort of detention centr Schiphol is not the favourite destination This is because if the asylum request is not accepted people are sent to their motherland without any other chance to have their case reevaluated Schiphol is not the most favourite destinationThis is because if the asylum request is not accepted people are sent to their land of heritage immediately without any other chances to have their case reevaluated is a village in the North of The Netherlands Germanyt is a big receiving center and the first destination traveled toreached by newcomers asylum seekers are interviewed extensively for three times by IND personnel The aim of the interview is to assess exactly where asylum seekers come from by investigating the language they speak and other elements to see if they meet the requirements for the refugee status This procedure is very detailed because there are countries as Somalia where war is not spread all over the territory In  that case it might be that asylum seekers will not be given a resident permit and instead itthey will be suggested to move to an  area of their country where there is no ongoing conflict then they are spread to different AZCs around the Netherlands These centers host both asylum seekers and refugees who are at different stages of their immigration procedure There are those who are waiting for the assessment of the refugee status peoplethose who have already obtained the resident permit and those who are waiting for the availability of social housing There are also people whose asylum requests have not been accepted and who are waiting to be repatriated or they are trying to have their cases reevaluated by taking legal actions It is possible that some of them will have to return where they came from who are considered to have fled safe countries In Gilze there is a family location where parents and kids are allowed to stay until they become adults Those who were born in The Netherlands or came at a very young age can obtain a residence permit once they turn 18 whereas their parents by then will be repatriated DM: What happens once asylum seekers get the refugees status They will wait in the AZC until they are assigned a social housing accommodation ByThen with the help of non-governmental organizations like VWN (VluchtelingenWerk) refugees are helped to find a job and with other practical matters There also other organizations like IOM (International Organization for Migration) thatwhich offers financial support and help to people that decide voluntarily to repatriate it will be decided by the COA main organ dealing with asylum requests COA then will assign asylum seekers to different AZCs (Asylum seekers centers) in the countryHere personnel dealing with their intakes outtakes and the research of social housing whenever the resident permit is obtained Exceptions to this procedure happen just in the case of family reunions and university students DM: Are there refugees who came this past summer or September 2015 who already obtained the refugee status this the case of Eritreans and Syrians because Syria is very dangerous and becauseEritreans who flee are not welcome in their country anymore At AZCs people that got the refugee status are totally free to move they just have to prove their presence at the camp once a week by getting a stamp on a document Here there are also some unaccompanied minors that are studying and who have applied for family reunion in order to bereunited with their parents DM: What about those who do not get the refugee status This is the case when they are taking legal actions to have their asylum requests reevaluated we had the case of a woman in this situation that waited almost 5 years before getting the resident permit DM: What practical help does the government offer to asylum seekers?  didn’t get itthey in this casethatwho in order to bepractice so that they can be reunitedalsofor those who are consideredprospectFar They are given a weekly contribution with which they have to provide themselves food and clothes In the case of families the amount increases but not proportionally to the amount a single person receives What language do you use in the Centre to communicate with asylum seekers?  Sometimes we have Dutch translators but often we rely on asylum seekers themselves. They know more than one language and are willing to help translate for both their peers and the working personnel it is common that asylum seekers help each other Some of them learn Dutch very quickly and then they are able to help even more with the communication Children are the ones who learn fastest and so it is common seeing them translating for their parents or other adults But when official communications have to be translated we refer to organizations that offer professional translators Otherwise we rely on refugees' and personnel's knowledge also because the aim is to make asylum seekers as independent as possible DM: What activities are being offered in the center?  Dutch lessons are provided twice a week People here also make use of mobile applications to study Dutch The teaching personnel often is not aware of  this subject matter refugees are usually much more up-to-date than Dutch teachers and AZC personnel It is also possible to fitness and to play volleyball Other activities are offered by organizations which are independent from COA and that organize activities DM: Do guests of this center use mobile applications as a means of translations DM: Do you know any story of a refugee that have integrated successfully He has been living in the center for 2 years who mastered the Dutch language quite quickly He is taking extra language courses in Eindhoven because he aims to undergo the Integration Exam about Dutch language and culture as soon as possible so as to be able to pursue a higher education the time people take to learn the language is relative Some people are quicker because they are driven by a strong will to start a new life and to integrate in the Dutch society DM:  Are there children in this centre who join the regular school?  In The Netherlands education for minors is compulsory and if children do not attend school but when children need to go to higher levels of school That would be the case if they meet a certain level of Dutch and their procedure to get the resident permit is proceeding positively. In fact DM: How did you come so close the issues related to refugees Among my friends I am the only one working with refugees I will say that people are not that much acquainted with refugees because if you do not have any contact with this environment it is less likely that you will be interested in it. My interest in the refugee cause stems from the reading of the book “If this is a man” by Primo Levi in which the Italian writer reflects upon the extent of atrocity that humankind can reach within horrible situations I always knew I wanted to work with people I started to follow the refugee issue because it was a hot topic in media that struck me On top of it I always liked diversity of people and I believe that as far as humankind is one All over The Netherlands there have been several demonstrations against refugeesainly it happened in small villages Oisterwijk is a small village known to be one of the richest municipalities in the Netherlands Are residents from Oisterwijk unhappy about the AZC or have they ever had problems with refugees?   I believe that it is mainly because this centre has been here for a long time and Oisterwijk residents are acquainted with the situation Sometimes there have been arguments between young asylum seekers and locals From Political Sciences to Culture Studies Engaged in understanding the super-diverse society we live in Our newsletter arrives every Monday with fresh reviews Thieves steal two works after ripping them from their frames as they were too big for their car Thieves have blown open the door of an art gallery in the southern Netherlands to try to steal four works from a famous series of Andy Warhol screen prints but damaged them all and only managed to get away with two in the botched heist The gallery’s owner, Mark Peet Visser, said the thieves had attempted to steal the works from a 1985 series by the US pop artist called Reigning Queens, which features portraits of the then-queens of the UK, the Netherlands Visser said the heist early on Friday at the MPV Gallery in the town of Oisterwijk was captured on security cameras “The bomb attack was so violent that my entire building was destroyed” and nearby shops were also damaged And then they ran to the car with the artworks and it turns out that they won’t fit in the car “At that moment [two of] the works are ripped out of the frames and you also know that they are damaged beyond repair because it is impossible to get them out undamaged.” The other two were left on the street damaged Visser declined to put a value on the four signed and numbered works which he had planned to offer for sale as a set at an art fair in Amsterdam later this month The thieves got away with portraits of the late Queen Elizabeth II of the UK and the former Queen Margrethe II of Denmark The prints of the former Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and Ntombi Tfwala who is known as the Queen Mother of Eswatini were left on the street as the thieves fled “but it is strange that explosives were used” “That’s not common for art thefts,” said Arthur Brand who has made headlines for recovering artworks including a missing Picasso and a stolen Van Gogh Police appealed for witnesses as forensic experts examined the badly damaged gallery on Friday Free weekly newsletterThe most pressing stories and debates for Europeans – from identity to economics to the environment Visser told the local broadcaster Omroep Brabant that the stolen works were worth “a considerable sum” but Brand told Agence France-Presse they were “not unique and most likely tens of them were made” “This makes it easier to sell than unique works Netherlands (AP) — Thieves blew open the door of an art gallery in the southern Netherlands and stole two works from a famous series of screen prints by American pop artist Andy Warhol and left two more badly damaged in the street as they fled the scene of the botched heist Mark Peet Visser said the thieves attempted to steal all four works from a 1985 Warhol series called “Reigning Queens,” which features portraits of the then-queens of the United Kingdom a small landlocked kingdom in southern Africa which is now called Eswatini Visser said the heist early Friday at MPV Gallery in the town of Oisterwijk was captured on security cameras “The bomb attack was so violent that my entire building was destroyed” and nearby stores were also damaged And then they ran to the car with the artwork and it turns out that they won't fit in the car At that moment the works are ripped out of the frames and you also know that they are damaged beyond repair because it is impossible to get them out undamaged.” The thieves got away with portraits of Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and Margrethe II of Denmark The prints of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and Ntombi Tfwala who is now known as the queen mother of Eswatini Two works made by famous artist Andy Warhol were stolen from the art gallery MPV Gallery on the Dorpsstraat in Oisterwijk. A huge explosion happened at the location at around 03:35 a.m. on Thursday after which thieves tried to take four art pieces from the Reigning Queens series they were only able to steal the portraits of the British Queen Elizabeth and Queen Margrethe of Denmark The art thieves smashed the glass from the frames and ripped the silkscreens out She believes that there is no way that they did this without severely damaging the art pieces The portraits of Queen Beatrix and Queen Ntombi Twala have been recovered “The series as a whole is very valuable,” the spokesperson said The portraits that MPV Gallery had in stock have the same numbering "A mortal shame" that the series has now been "torn apart" Due to the popularity of the screen prints reselling will be difficult for the perpetrators "That is only possible on the black market." The explosion also caused a lot of damage to the building There is also damage to the neighboring buildings on the Dorpsstraat Police reported that the suspects fled the scene in a car Detectives are conducting forensic investigations in and around the gallery on Friday Witnesses and people with camera footage or information about the perpetrators are asked to come forward Currently housing around 300 asylum seekers and refugees Oisterwijk refugee center has been a temporary home to such people for 13 years They have opportunities to develop themselves in various ways while living there The refugee center in the Noord Brabant town of Oisterwijk has been offering a shelter to asylum seekers and refugees since 2003 it houses more than 300 people from various countries Residents of the center spend their days by not only passively waiting for the approval of their refugee status or for moving to a social house also keeping themselves busy by taking lessons and doing sports The route to the center leads through a picturesque residential area full of large houses with expensive cars parked in front of them.“People do not complain about the refugee centre being here. It’s been here for more than a decade, so they are used to it,” explains Vincent The place itself comprises many small buildings scattered among greenery and even on a rainy day it gives an impression of a cosy summer camp venue asylum seekers register with the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers and then they are redistributed to camps around the country the one in Heumensoord is ten times bigger,” Vincent briefly describes the process of accommodating the incomers asylum seekers receive a weekly allowance and also money for food Asylum seekers and refugees in Oisterwijk live in rooms which are organized into flats with shared living areas it is crucial to start learning Dutch as it is compulsory for them to take an examination to test their Dutch language skills after they obtain the refugee status It is expected of them to reach an elementary level of the language by that time. Language lectures are available onsite. “The lectures take place several times a week,” says Lotte her students take a test to assess their ability to learn languages in general I can equip them with a suitable book,” she adds People of different nationalities attend these classes and according to Lotte that is a positive thing because it pushes students to use Dutch in their intercommunication The Dutch government finances teachers at refugee centers There are also computer rooms available at the refugee center. “We have a schedule of accessibility of the rooms Different time slots are designated for children of various ages and for adults,” Vincent explains Asylum seekers who have not yet obtained the refugee status also have an opportunity to learn Dutch “Some people also use apps for learning the language,” Vincent reveals “it is better to learn in the lectures from the books” as it is later very difficult to ‘unlearn’ what one learnt wrong Some students already finished their lectures in the centre and want to continue learning Dutch. One example is a 30-year-old Eritrean refugee Gebre “I’m now attending Dutch lectures in Eindhoven I want to reach the intermediate level,” Gebre mentions asylum seekers and refugees have other opportunities how to spend their time There is a room with pool and table football fitness lessons have started to take place the centre disposes of a basketball court and playgrounds for children “There are many unaccompanied minors in this centre They have to be supervised 24/7,” Vincent remarks The centre has its own kindergarten and school and older children go to school in Tilburg As the center is located approximately three kilometres from the heart of the town the residents need to get around by way of Netherland’s most typical means of transport - bicycles. While adult asylum seekers and refugees have to purchase bicycles While adult asylum seekers and refugees have to purchase bicycles He asks a seven-year-old girl “Hoe gaat het met je and you?]” without hesitation.“The children learn the language really quickly,” Vincent says. “However it is possible that some of them will have to return where they came from Especially the Roma people and the ones from Albania and Kosovo which are considered to be safe countries,” he states Some of the families have been staying in the Oisterwijk refugee centre for several years. “Some people were refused the refugee status but they repeatedly appealed against the decision and haven’t been deported yet,” Vincent outlines the fate of some of the residents The situation is also tough for people who already have the refugee status Although it is full of people with various difficult life paths the refugee centre in Oisterwijk is peaceful. “We do not have to solve many conflicts only small frays at most,” Vincent informs He and his colleagues are doing their best to ease the challenging transition period of lives of the asylum seekers and refugees Note: The editorial staff knows the identities of the respondents. year Here’s our guide to the best exhibitions in London in 2019 The 20th Anniversary of Intents Festival took place June 2nd to June 4th in Oisterwijk in the Netherlands What started off as a small local Caranval festival in 2004 has grown into one of the most well known hardstyle festivals in the world We made the epic journey from Den Haag to our accommodations in Udenhout (about 7 kilometers from Intents) We opted not to camp but rather to stay off-site in Udenhout at a bed & breakfast as I was celebrating my own anniversary (nine years together with my boyfriend!) we got rides each day from the accommodation and then it was about a 25-minute walk to the festival from the Kiss & Ride it was really cute to see children from the community selling soda and candy for partygoers so I really appreciated that Cola Zero for the long walk When we arrived at the festival grounds on Friday evening The campsite is called IntentsCity and once you arrive there you’ll see why Although this was my second time at Intents so this was my first time experiencing IntentsCity I have to say in my 13 plus years of attending festivals I’ve never seen a campsite so well organized IntentsCity is more than just your traditional festival campgrounds in the fact that there is so much to do From giant beer pong to obstacle courses to Wie is Het (the life size version of the game Guess Who) there were plenty of fun things to do outside of what you traditionally see at a festival One major takeaway from this festival is that it’s so much more than just the music and there were a lot of options of things to do if you wanted to take it easy Intents took place in a large grassy field in Oisterwijk I was pleased to see that there were very little cups on the ground This demonstrates Intents’s commitment to sustainability through their various recycling initiatives Throughout the weekend there were people collecting trash and recycling (easily identifiable with LED recycle signs) They also employed the recycle token initiative to encourage people to return their plastic to the bar before receiving their next drink At one point I forgot my recycle token and had a hard time finding any plastic cups on the ground to return to get a new drink The mainstage this year was a Royal Palace picture Cinderella’s castle but with hard dance This massive realistic castle was the centerpiece of the festival hosting some of the biggest names in the scene was where you could find the hardest music at the festival if your heart beats at 200 beats per minute then this stage was for you This was also the stage where you could find the giant 20-year anniversary birthday cake To the side of the mainstage was The Great Hall adorned on each side with photos of famous painters Behind the DJ booth were LED photos of DJs with the photo of the DJ who was performing at the centerpiece This stage looked like what you would find in a medieval town square with a large clock with small towers along the sides and mill wheels No small detail was left out when designing these stages On Saturday this stage was the Outrageous stage and on Sunday it was Relive Also known as the Court Jester stage (no explanation needed) This stage hosted a mix of genres all the way from Freestyle to classics On Saturday this stage was the home to some of the hardest names in the Uptempo scene On Sunday this stage hosted multi-genre dance music It wouldn’t be an Intents party without a feestcafé This indoor mini tavern was the place to go for your traditional Dutch music and party hits The Boombox stage was bigger than previous years (and bigger than at Karnaval) Expanding from a shipping container to an open-air stage this stage is for the up and comers in the scene If you wanted a bird’s eye view of the festival this was the place to be You could climb up into an overlook deck to get that perfect photo At the heart of the campsite was the IntentsCity stage The colorful metropolis was the place to be to of course the fireworks at the end show the visuals were on point from start to finish The sound throughout the festival was crisp was 100% necessary as the sound was BOOMING everywhere you went I saw a ton of amazing sets this weekend but for the sake of time and space I will just focus on a few One of the first acts of the weekend I got to experience and it set the tone for the rest of the weekend Act of Rage kicked off my weekend with bangers such as Raging Reckless and my personal favorite Road Rage The crowd screaming to MOVE B**** GET OUT THE WAY and I was here for it Sickmode tore down the main stage on Friday dropping bombs like Go Crazy It really is something special to have a crowd so diverse all doing the klaplong and singing along to Go Stupid it really shows that this music knows no boundaries It’s 100% pure energy every time from Mish making her one of the artists on my “must-see” list for every festival Mish’s set included some of our favorites like Hollaback Girl and Wannabe This set was so much fun I didn’t want it to end One of the most talked about artists at the moment Aversion played three sets this weekend During his Saturday set he had us screaming along to Linkin Park’s Numb As the sun began to set over the stage raw beats and fists filled the air Aversion really knows how to captivate a crowd It was my first time seeing him live but certainly not my last and Da Mouth of Madness destroyed the Dynamite Stage When they dropped Trip To Holland I thought the roof of the tent was going to collapse Between the bass and the intense stomping from the crowd Phuture Noize and B-Front was the place to be on Sunday afternoon They dropped fan favorites such as Drift Away and From Star to Stardust These two hard dance legends had the crowd going hard on the final day of the festival One of the highlights of the weekend for me was seeing one of my favorite DJs of all time BillX BillX seamlessly mixes together Frenchcore He had us bumping to Pagan Totem and Halibo Each night the sky lit up with fireworks and lasers On Sunday night I have to say that is the most fireworks I’ve ever seen at one time in my life It was by far one of the best end shows I’ve seen The fireworks and pyrotechnics were so synchronized and shooting above the castle was the picture-perfect end to the perfect weekend I had an incredible weekend and I only have one piece of feedback at times the walking paths were a bit unsteady Attempts were made to secure the walking paths to the ground but it was definitely easy to trip especially when it was crowded One suggestion would be to add lights or something to distinguish where the path ends from the grass to avoid people tripping and falling It is so close and yet bound to be just off your radar for where to go for long nature walks- the Oisterwijk forest with its many fens the nature reserve of the Kampina to their East and various contiguous riverine and agricultural areas but different from most post stamp sized greenery this varied and beautiful area makes for a large exploration ground The core of the area, South and East of Oisterwijk, was part of the early (pre-WWII) acquisitions of the Vereniging Natuurmonumenten the largest private Dutch nature conservation organisation and made for a stronghold that was spared the widespread destruction of Brabant’s rural areas in the post-war decades When policy thinking started paying more attention to the value of natural areas various organisations started adding parcels wherever possible and now it makes for a pretty unique and above all diverse green outdoors Disclaimer: I am biased as this is where I grew up But maybe that is exactly why you should take my enthusiasm at face value Isn’t the grass always greener on the other side of the fence it is more than beautifully green enough on this side And we Oisterwijkers have always thought so: it was in response to a lobby of concerned locals in the early 20th century that Natuurmonumenten made this their first protective buy in the Southern part of the country both are part of the so-called “original Groote Heide” region which covered pretty much everything to the South of Eindhoven into Belgium) and a very convenient entry point to the Kampina and the Oisterwijk fens is a 15-minute train ride from Eindhoven central half the time it takes you by bus to Valkenswaard Oisterwijk is less than 25 minutes by train Because of the variety that my native area offers: forest but also quite a few meandering brooks and rivers stretches of which are up to the nicest of e.g and a couple of picture book F&B possibilities Beyond these great introductions to the area, the VisitBrabant integrated network of walking trails – have another look at the map – makes it easy to figure out alternatives and ways to combine adjacent areas with the parts highlighted by the above mentioned pre-designed walks Adding adjacent areas makes for longer walks but I have never really understood why 20-25k for a nice full day out in nature (leaving plenty time for rest stops) is considered too ambitious Hoping to encourage you to be bold and design your own walks making use of the map (more on how to do that in this previous article in the Exploring Eindhoven series) two suggestions for you to turn into your own route: one beautiful and interesting option near Boxtel is to combine the forest fens and open heathlands of the Kampina with an exploration of as much of the bank of the Beerze and little Aa rivers as you feel like The VisitBrabant trails do not always stick to the river but if you do it it is not difficult to pick up a signed trail again a bit later Look out for the copious signs of beaver activity The really ambitious can include an out and back on the opposite bank to near Spoordonk And a good example of how new areas are still being added to the long-established parts of the nature reserve following the Reusel South and the Rozep back North in combination with the VisitBrabant route of the core area of fens makes for a comparably more diverse and inspiring day out you’ll see the Eindhoven – Tilburg highway in the distance but it shouldn’t be very intrusive More background info, resources, and thoughts, visuals and audio about Eindhoven, The Netherlands, cities, exploring environments and assorted in full swing and it has had an excellent start with Imperatorz The tall German DJ seized the early moment of the day to whip up the crowd and took the bull by its horns with a powerful set READ ALSO: Major Conspiracy ignites furious Dynamite area Imperatorz is on the rise and is heavily loaded with 35 heavy tracks for the Fanaticz stage: the area that gets bigger and bigger every year The Scantraxx BLACK artist was scheduled for the third set of the day but that didn’t stop him from getting straight to the point: dancing your ass off Much to the delight of the enthusiastic audience The Imperatorz set was full of hits and mash-ups: it put everyone on the dance floor on edge Especially when you consider that the German (2 meters high) waltzed across the stage like a Duracell battery because while the DJ almost jumps against the roof of the booth during the (what a coincidence) ‘Energy’ the Intents audience is instantly in a good mood They scream along en masse during the ‘Warrior’ collab with Aversion and spin circles like a Turbo Booster when they go wrong while a new ID ‘Disobey’ blows out of the speakers Fraw comes on stage and the ‘Face The Rage’-edit is received with open arms by the audience Imperatorz is again making his mark: an energetic start to the day is what catches on with people “Intents always brings the energy” “Incredibly thankful for the support and vibe during my set You all coming out early means the world!” The Fanaticz stage is also featuring Aversion, Dual Damage and many more this weekend: be there next year and pre-register now for Netherlands following his January arrest in a trailer park in the southern city of Oisterwijk owing to the Dutch judicial system which does not disclose information regarding suspects awaiting trial Coban appears to be a man who kept largely to himself Interest in the case underscores recent efforts by police to pursue cyberbullying cases According to the Dutch public-prosecution service Coban allegedly victimized "dozens of girls in several countries It is also investigating possible victims in Norway Coban's alleged involvement in the Amanda Todd case also demonstrates how international Over de waarde van werken wil hij niets kwijt Wel is hij naar eigen zeggen goed verzekerd voor de financiële schade Andy Warhol maakte de werken in de jaren 80 Op de zeefdrukken zijn vier regerende koninginnen uit die periode te zien: de Nederlandse Beatrix de Deense Margrethe II en koningin Ntombi Twala van Swaziland De werken van Elizabeth en Margrethe zijn meegenomen "Ze zijn niet per se zeldzaam", zegt kunsthistoricus Willem Baars over de zeefdrukken van Warhol. "We gaan opruimen", zegt Visser.
