First year bachelor students of Security Studies enjoyed an interactive guest lecture by Han van Midden, former mayor of Roosendaal. The lecture was part of the course Integrated Project 1, where students work on cases concerning local security and public order. For the students to understand the cases they’re working on, they get the chance to interact with people who have worked in the field to gain a first-hand experience. Lecturer Ruth Prins, research fellow at Leiden University, invited Han van Midden. He was former mayor of Roosendaal, a city dealing with a high crime rate, especially among youth.   Students want to know, how can a mayor influence or change this situation? Van Midden: ‘I chose to open up the conversation in an unconventional way’. He shows a video of him and rapper YSF working together in a music video. This proved to be the opening in getting youth to talk to Van Midden. The remainder of the lecture was filled with in- depth questions about his experiences and Van Midden giving them a personal insight in what it is like to work in this field. A 21-year-old woman from Moerstraten was killed Sunday morning in a workplace accident in Roosendaal, police reported. The fatal incident took place at a theater on Nieuwstraat, where the woman worked. Authorities said she was trapped during the accident, though further details about the exact circumstances have not been released. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead at the location. The accident occurred early in the day, and no other individuals were injured in the incident. The Dutch labor inspectorate has been informed and will begin an investigation into the cause of the accident. Police confirmed that they are cooperating with the inspectorate as part of the inquiry. © 2012-2025, NL Times, All rights reserved. Most of us have sat through work meetings that seem pointless and drag on forever These time sucks also represent one of the biggest costs for business whose AI-powered platform Project Manda aims to clamp down on the problem “Anybody that’s worked in corporate before can just relate to that frustration when you walk out of a meeting and it’s a waste of time,” says van Roosendaal and no way to upskill people to run better meetings “If you look at the amount of time people are spending in meetings it’s about a quarter of people’s time and it’s a huge untracked expense.” Van Roosendaal and co-founder Ash Farrugia this week revealed they have raised over $2 million in pre-seed funding for Project Manda designed to cut wasted time in meetings and boost work productivity The round was led by Tech Labs Capital and Black Sheep Capital with participation from investors including Paul Limbrey vice president of global agencies and partners at Google and Melbourne-based investors Peter Yunghanns and David Williams analysed data from 15 million meetings across over 200 organisations they say it has cut unnecessary meetings and meeting time by 10-15% without compromising outcomes The meetings that do proceed are more productive and follow-ups that can be integrated into platforms like Teams and Slack The cost of unproductive meetings is staggering typically accounting for an $80 million annual investment in a 2000-person organisation “It’s amazing — for all the businesses I’ve spoken to very few have any internal process for what their meeting culture is how to educate people to have better meetings and the expectations of meeting organisers,” he says accounting for 14% of annual operating expenses According to Domain’s chief data officer Pooyan Asgari the Project Manda platform has freed up $600,000 worth of people’s time out of meetings with the impact tipped to grow tenfold as it’s rolled out Putting a dollar amount on every meeting can help shed light on unnecessary meetings and where improvements can be made “It’s just crazy in this day and age of capital efficiency where if you wanted to buy a MacBook for somebody in your team you probably need the CFO to sign off on it but I can go and organise a $5,000 meeting with no accountability and basically burn everyone’s time,” van Roosendaal says an employee organised $400,000 worth of meetings annually and they all look at each other and go: ‘Who is this guy?’ None of them knew who he was yet he’s basically spending $400,000 worth of people’s time each year Getting visibility on that is just crucial and nobody’s been able to do it so far so it’s a massive step forward for productivity With Project Manda exceeding its initial $1 million fundraising target the team is now focusing on cracking the US as well as Australia “There are so many 50,000-plus organisations there — it’s a massive opportunity if we can get that right.” Never miss a story: sign up to SmartCompany’s free daily January 15 last year at the Burgerhoutsestraat in Roosendaal A 19-year-old was injured during the shooting was planning on stealing weed or a car with the threat of violence that night along with two others with one of these coming in a bicycle tunnel allegedly arranged the firearm and was also the shooter “The ease with which the suspect has done this can be seen as gangster-like,” said the because of the collision The suspect denies having shot at somebody in Roosendaal and emphasized during the hearing that he had no influence on the driver’s behavior in the getaway car or the boy’s behavior in the back who filmed the reckless drive and the police chase He has said that he is now trying to build up a new life in Drenthe where he has converted to religion and lives with assistance He still suffers from back pains due to the crash The case was set to continue Friday with the defense's arguments The police arrested four men in the days following the explosion - a 33-year-old from Rotterdam, a 33-year-old from Oosterhout, and two men from Roosendaal, aged 29 and 23. They were in restricted custody until today Now the authorities are able to share some more information about the investigation The OM reported that the police stopped and searched the two Roosendaal suspects on a parking lot in Oosterhout on the night of December 1 they found heavy fireworks and jerry cans of petrol The police arrested the suspects on suspicion of preparatory acts for arson and confiscated the arson-related items as well as several phones The police questioned the men and then released them pending the results of the investigation into the phones “It has now become clear that the suspects had probably already wanted to start a fire or cause an explosion at the bridal fashion store on Tarwekamp that night,” the OM said According to the OM, the 33-year-old man from Rotterdam is the person behind the attack. He knows the owner of the bridal fashion, who the authorities believe was the target of the attack and hired the other three suspects to help carry out the attack The four men are suspected of involvement in the explosion on December 7, arson in a car that same morning “The explosion in the early morning of December 7 resulted in fatalities and unimaginable devastation,” the OM said revealing that 37 affected persons and legal entities have pressed charges “They include the directly affected residents and relatives but also locals who were frightened by the explosion and were confronted with the dramatic consequences that night or local residents and shopkeepers who suffered direct material damage.” The OM is currently processing the filed charges The suspects are still in custody and will appear at their first public hearing on March 14 the OM will explain the state of the investigation and the examining magistrate will decide whether to keep them in custody Join a global community working to strengthen the Commons Become an expert in creating and engaging with openly licensed materials Get help choosing the appropriate license for your work Find engines to search openly licensed material for creative and educational reuse Help us build products that maximize creativity and innovation As the producers of the world’s first open movie project, Ton Rosendaal and his team at the Blender Institute “work open” in every aspect of their production the free and open source 3D creation suite from independent artists to small businesses A more in-depth profile of the Blender Institute will be released in the forthcoming book Made with Creative Commons In 2014 we decided to drop this funding model nor is it very practical to use for data sets Instead we began uploading everything we made to a website—all the films and 100 hours of training materials we’d made over the past several years For just $10 per month subscribers can get access to everything on the site under CC BY and we use the subscription revenues to produce new content and film continuously Caminandes Llamigos was the third short film we produced thanks to Blender Cloud subscriptions the goal with this project was to further improve Blender but also to have a large collection of CC BY content and tutorials to share with users online and it’s a big inspiration to learn how to make them from the makers directly The Caminandes series is based on director Pablo Vazquez’ home country – Patagonia Pablo loves funny crazy animals as well as short cartoons in the well known American ’50s tradition Writing and storyboarding started in October of last year Production started in November and lasted 3 months we spent a month wrapping up the project by producing additional content Why do you choose the specific CC licenses you use for your projects We almost exclusively use CC BY and CC 0 for our works Offering our films and their source materials under a noncommercial license was never something we considered as doing so makes sharing content with serious artists and professionals impossible or confusing Open licenses are essential for sharing our films and their source material CC BY and CC 0 make the asset collections usable for other projects for the kinds of training that we want to encourage it’s essential to give students the right to build on top of our work in order to make new works What do you hope people will do with this film we want people to share our work so that lots of people see it Past versions of  Caminandes were copied to the Disney Channel with big success The Caminandes characters are becoming quite well known now and people have started using them in unexpected ways looking back at 10 years of sharing animation film under CC we are surprised that people haven’t been using the assets to create entirely new episodes or versions—and certainly not in the quality and quantity we did You might think that “giving it all away” would cause you to lose everything because your great artwork now can be duplicated and used by everyone it still takes a lot of talent and skill and time and budget to make this sort of work There’s no value for us in enforcing strict copyright limitations on the work info@creativecommons.org Except where otherwise noted, content on this site is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. The FNV is demanding an average 13 percent wage increase for ProRail employees, claiming that this is needed due to inflation. But these demands have not been met by ProRail as of yet with ProRail having gone no higher than an average 5.2 percent pay bump in its final offer Two other unions already agreed to the ProRail proposal Please select what you would like included for printing: Copy the text below and then paste that into your favorite email application Enter your phone number above to have directions sent via text This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply Service map data © OpenStreetMap contributors All four suspects arrested in connection with an explosion and fire that left six people dead at an apartment complex in The Hague were ordered to remain behind bars for at least the next two weeks while the investigation continues. The examining magistrate in charge of Friday's hearing heard evidence about the four men who are suspected of arson and causing an explosion the Public Prosecution Service (OM) said after the hearing but their connection to each other was not specified Both The Hague and Rotterdam are located in Zuid-Holland while Roosendaal and Oosterhout are located just across the provincial border in Noord-Brabant At least one massive explosion took place at about 6:15 a.m. on Tarwekamp in The Hague's Mariahoeve neighborhood. That explosion then caused a fire which spread rapidly, and was difficult for firefighters to tackle. "The men are suspected of arson and causing an explosion in which six people died and four were injured. They are also suspected of setting fire to a car and are accused of having previously made preparations to start a fire," the OM said A 63-year-old resident was the sixth individual who died, and his wife was among those hospitalized. Two of the people injured include a bar owner and one of his loyal customers, both of whom fell asleep in a small living space in the cellar of the café Criminal defense attorney Gerard Spong is representing one of the four men He told RTL Nieuws that his client is currently suspected of "arson resulting in danger to life." Under Dutch law a convictions on such a charge could potentially include life sentence arson charges carry vastly different sentencing guidelines determined in part by fatalities and if an offender should be aware that such an incident could be life threatening to another individual Although Wednesday's hearing was held behind closed doors the charges against the four suspects will likely be discussed in further detail during an arraignment hearing before a three-judge panel at the District Court of The Hague on December 24 These hearings are typically open to the public and media the four suspects will remain in restricted custody and will only be allowed contact with their legal representation Police previously said that the target of the explosion may have been a bridal shop located in one of the retail spaces at the street level below the two-storey apartments. The woman's Range Rover was rumored to be one of the vehicles set on fire during the incident She said that she was shocked to find out the information and denied rumors about her involvement in either unethical or illegal business practices "In that investigation, these suspects emerged as possible parties involved in the explosion. The investigation into the explosion continues unabated," the OM said in its update. Police previously said more arrests are possible and they asked for help in tracking down two vehicles which may be linked to the case including a dark blue 2009 Toyota Yaris and a champagne-colored 2009 Kia Ceed station wagon A suspect convicted of arson that resulted in someone's death can be handed a maximum sentence of life imprisonment with a chance of parole after 25 years or a court can order a sentence of up to 30 years in prison this is only possible if the district court in charge of the case believes the suspect should have known that the criminal act could have threatened the life of another can be punished by up to 15 years in prison Arson resulting in property damage alone can lead to a sentence of up to 12 years behind bars the maximum fine is 103,000 euros not including compensation for damages claimed by victims Prosecutors in criminal trials will present their recommended sentence to the court during trial Guidelines from the Public Prosecution Service show that prosecutors presenting arguments against a suspect in a life-threatening arson should seek a minimum sentence of three years when there is property damage or a minor injury and a risk of recidivism can prompt prosecutors to demand higher sentences Prosecutors can also ask the court to consider the evacuation of a building as an aggravating factor which is intentionally causing a fire or explosion and negligence that unintentionally results in a fire or explosion Being responsible for an unintended fire with fatal consequences can result in up to two years in prison and a fine of single Despite the city serving as home to the band’s official fan club it is highly unlikely this song was written with Roosendaal Boys Combinatie in mind one would be hard pressed to find a more appropriate anthem for this Dutch football club who in the space of six years went from mixing it with Ajax to playing in the tenth division the club commonly referred to as RBC were founded in 1912 in Roosendaal A city of some 80,000 in the southern province of North Brabant it is famed for being a regional railway hub and headquarters of the KCT One of the main exports from the city is indeed RBC For the majority of their existence they have played in the lower reaches of Dutch football with the club being amateur as recently as 1983 Before then they had enjoyed a spell in the Eerste Divisie although in 1971 were banished to amateur football owing to a league restructuring Promotion to the Eerste Divisie regained professional status Reaching the 1986 KNVB Beker final whilst still a second division side they would unfortunately be no match for Ajax the club would move out of the limelight for the next decade or so RBC surprised everyone to reach the playoffs these are more extensive than other European leagues including relegation-threatened Eredivisie clubs Six games are played and the two first-placed sides earn the right to play in the following season’s top flight who had ended the regular season with 17 more points RBC won three and drew two of their six games this meant a first top-flight promotion in the club’s history with RBC finishing bottom after winning just four games all season the club were to bounce back immediately with another narrow playoff triumph RBC ended in the relative comfort of 13th in their first season back leading to several years of first division football Read  |  How Surinamese migrants revolutionised Dutch football Whilst performances were admittedly unspectacular it’s fair to say just being in the Eredivisie was far beyond RBC’s wildest dreams Bear in mind that this was a club that until recently had been playing amateur football They were not used to playing such giants as Ajax and PSV both of whom were drawn with in the 2003/04 season This campaign also included a record high of 12th with the familiarity of the playoffs needed to retain top-flight status such struggle foreshadowed two great declines the highlight of which was a 2-0 win over NEC Nijmegen but unfortunately there weren’t any others to choose RBC ended their four-year top-flight spell in embarrassment finishing rock bottom with the lowest points return in Eredivisie history: a grand total of nine from 34 matches In 2006/07 they were close to another instant return although narrowly lost 2-1 on aggregate to Excelsior in the playoffs Several seasons of financial mismanagement and second-tier mediocrity followed culminating in a catastrophic series of events in 2011 that were to signal the death of RBC Roosendaal Having drunk from the waters of the Eredivisie it was revealed €500,000 needed to be urgently raised to ensure the club’s survival with enforced budget cuts hampering efforts on the pitch Two weeks after narrowly avoiding the drop in the 2010/11 Eerste Divisie RBC announced they could no longer meet mortgage costs on their MariFlex Arena In desperate search of a €1m guarantee from the Municipality of Roosendaal this was rejected by an overwhelming majority of 29 votes to five on 30 May 2011 with a small numbers gathering outside the stadium to lay flowers and console one another Maaskant remarked: “I can barely control my tears,” while Pierre van Hooijdonk who kickstarted his career at RBC having been rejected by NAC Breda Several potential investors and an ambitious plan to merge with NAC were explored both avenues were to turn into cul-de-sacs Read  |  The inside story of VVV-Venlo: the small Dutch outfit providing a blueprint on top-flight survival One has to ask questions here of the Roosendaal municipality who appeared most apathetic to RBC’s plight any potential bankruptcy stood to place a huge financial burden on the city with the municipal government acting as guarantor to the €3.4m mortgage on the MariFlex Arena that meant all financial liability transferred over to the municipality which doesn’t usually have to deal with such huge numbers Selling the stadium was also out of the question It appeared increasingly likely the club wouldn’t play at any level in the 2011/12 season These fears were confirmed when a day later RBC filed for bankruptcy Bailiffs entered the MariFlex Arena a week prior to the verdict removing artificial turf from the premises alongside rented vehicles when a court in Breda declared RBC Roosendaal bankrupt the KNVB afforded a week extra to the club to determine whether they could restart as an amateur club the outcome grimly summarised in a cutting board statement that simply read: “We did not succeed.” A further problem concerned the fact that and any continuation would be seen as a new club This point is something that RBC fought profusely with a bitter confrontation with the KNVB that lasted several months The new board demanded a place in the Hoofdklasse the second highest level of amateur football in the Netherlands and what was then the fourth tier This meant RBC were forced to start again from the very bottom For a club that just five years earlier had been playing in the Eredivisie Such feeling was eloquently summarised by Noud Bominaar a member of the club’s new board: “RBC is not dead In order to perform the required resuscitation the new board wrote to 575 beneficiaries asking for their support a figure that was easily achieved after ex-players such as Van Hooijdonk Further members were successfully sourced at a joining fee of €75 per head meaning on 2 December 2011 the new RBC association was officially established Read  |  How Amsterdam changed the world of football forever The club registered for the 2012/13 Vijfde Klasse The municipality continued to be uncooperative arguing there was no need for a tenth football team in the city whilst local clubs refused to ground share ending up on a field in the nearby village of Wouwse Plantage exactly a century after the establishment of the club It was a full eight divisions below where they had last played there were just 18 players in the entire squad only one thing truly mattered: each and every one of them was wearing an orange shirt emblazoned with the letters RBC The new era opened with a 2-1 win over MOC ’17 and continued in this fashion to end in the league title It was the tenth tier of Dutch football but RBC were slowly on their way back A welcome return to Roosendaal came in time for the following season with RBC returning home to the now renamed Herstaco Stadion Central to this was new chairman Jos Hermsen whose brother Paul had purchased the ground shortly after it fell into the municipality’s hands He proceeded to renovate the dilapidated pitch before renting it out to RBC ensuring they could resume playing in the city Despite now possessing a stadium of Eredivisie standard on the pitch RBC failed to live up to this In 2013/14 they were lucky not to get into a relegation battle levelling off in eighth place before two failed promotion attempts saw another ascent on the long climb back to their rightful position with RBC crowned champions of the Vierde Klasse A bizarre 2017/18 saw RBC start off in a relegation scrap although they went on a good run in the second half of the season to climb the table and end in the playoffs Unfortunately they were to blow it in a game with Unitas ’30 throwing away 3-1 and 4-2 leads in the second half to lose on penalties It would appear the playoffs may not be required this time around with RBC looking confidently at the seventh tier above them RBC will go up to the Tweede Klasse next season For a club that just over a decade before were playing in the top was cancelled and it was the beginning of the demise of the celebrated equestrian centre At the time Van der Pluijm explained that delays in planning permission and the rebuilding process of Den Goubergh as well as a refinancing were the cause for the cancellation of the show Soon after the 2018 European Under 25 Championships in Roosendaal were cancelled too and they moved to Exloo Den Goubergh as shown now on the auction websiteDen Goubergh went into foreclosure and is now scheduled to be sold in an executorial sale on 21 April 2022, hosted by BVA Auctions According to Horses.nl 2024 Emergency service workers at the scene Photo: Perry Roovers ANPOne person has been killed after the small plane they were piloting plunged onto the A58 highway near Rucphen in Brabant and burst into flames A German lorry driver who saw the accident said the plane made a turn and then fell to the tarmac. Others report seeing an “enormous fireball” and eyewitness photos show burning wreckage and the plume of smoke rising above the road after the accident. The plane, thought to be a single-engine aircraft, hit the motorway heading towards Roosendaal. A car was also involved in the crash, but the driver was unhurt, the AD reported. “I was on my way home from Breda when I felt an enormous bang,” the female driver told the AD. “I was able to stop the car on the emergency lane and it was only after I got out that I saw the plane. I was incredibly lucky.” The motorway has been closed in the direction of Roosendaal and is likely to remain so overnight while investigators try to work out what happened. The aircraft is thought to have taken off from Breda airport and may have belonged to flying school Breda Aviation. 7 December 2014 where she won the Junior team test with 71.063% She finished third in the individual and kur with 68.333% and 71.417% “Roosendaal was a really important competition for me because it was the first international show with Donna Ray after the Europeans and I really had time to prepare for this competition," said 15-year old Lina Entering the 2014 European Junior Riders Championships after only three months with her 6-year old KWPN mare Donna Ray (by United x Negro) Lina was really thrilled with the experience in Arezzo but she appreciated having more time to prepare for the CDI Roosendaal “We had trained a lot and we were expecting a good result It was a really nice competition and to be in the prize ceremony on all three days was a great feeling but with every test we are becoming more and more of a team," she added Uzunhasan describes Donna Ray as a princess and she really believes she found a treasure when she discovered the bay mare “When I first sat on her I knew that she was mine I still believe I am lucky to have found her In search for this horse we drove 10000 kms in Europe and after trying over 60 horses I finally found my dream horse Donna Ray," she explained "She is very picky and sometimes hard to please but when she is in top form she is unbeatable.” Lina now trains with the mare both in Holland and Turkey and hopes to continue her dressage dream alongside persuing her professional dream to become a veterinarian “I am studying in Turkey but all my school breaks I try to spend in Holland I train with Nicolette van Leeuwen and in Turkey with her daughter Dana van Lierop "I also train at home with my father who has been helping me since I was very  little."
