is a highly automated facility designed to ensure consistent quality while meeting enormous holiday demand
"The oliebollen must taste the same everywhere," said an employee during the tour
The facility uses industrial equipment to prepare
and fried in massive fryers that process thousands of pieces at a time
Each oliebol is fried to a golden-brown perfection before being cooled and packaged for distribution
"We’ve automated almost every step of the process
from mixing the dough to packaging," explained one of the production managers
"This ensures efficiency and consistency across the board."
The oliebollen are shipped from the Sneek factory to supermarkets across the Netherlands
Trucks loaded with freshly packaged oliebollen leave the factory daily to replenish store shelves
Borgesius has contracts with major supermarket chains
ensuring that most consumers in the country will find their oliebollen supplied by this single facility
This massive-scale production has streamlined the oliebollen supply chain
making it possible for supermarkets to offer the treat at competitive prices
which are deep-fried dough balls often dusted with powdered sugar
are a cherished part of Dutch New Year’s traditions
While many families still make them at home
the majority of oliebollen consumed in the Netherlands now come from supermarkets
Working from home can make it feel like managers have less direct supervision over workers
But an always-on video-conference tool changes that by automatically snapping webcam pictures of employees every few minutes
In order to keep productivity high while working remotely, some companies are turning to tools like Sneek
The software features a "wall of faces" for each office
which stays on throughout the workday and features constantly-updating photos of workers taken through their laptop camera every one to five minutes
The software's interface lets people set their webcam to automatically photograph them every one or five minutes
depending on how frequently they want their image to update (or how frequently their boss requires it)
Sneek's default settings will instantly connect the two workers in a live video call
even if the recipient hasn't clicked "accept." However
people can also configure their settings to only accept calls manually — and only take webcam photos manually — if their employer allows it
while some may be put off by the software's interface
it's meant to build a connected office dynamic
"Sneek was never designed to spy on anyone
we'd be the worst spy company ever considering we named our app 'Sneek,'" Currie said
"We know lots of people will find it an invasion of privacy
but there's also lots of teams out there who are good friends and want to stay connected when they're working together."
but now the company has received messages from Hansson's followers "abusing our staff and calling us pieces of s—."
"We've worked from home for 10+ years and one of the biggest things that starts to creep in is that sense of isolation
it does really affect people's mental health," he said
"Just having that ability to look up and see your teammates there can make all the difference."

located on King Street in the heart of Manchester city centre
forms “the next part of this ambitious strategy” which seeks to grow alongside the science

when it opened in the mid 2000s it commanded the highest rent in the city from private bank Investec
The acquisition comes as neighbouring Pall Mall’s redevelopment progresses with a year’s worth of works remaining on the transformation of the Grade II
Bruntwood SciTech has released a first look inside its exciting plans for the scheme
which includes a variety of stunning workspaces spanning Pay-As-You-Go and coworking lounges
The hub will prioritise collaboration for the forward-thinking community based there with extensive break-out areas

The name also celebrates urban biodiversity which will be increased in the city
Bruntwood SciTech will also provide 100% renewable energy across all shared areas at Pall Mall and Pinnacle in keeping with its entire 4.8m sq ft portfolio
delivered through its £9.7 million investment in Kirk Hill Wind Farm in Ayrshire
Commenting on the new acquisition and unveiling of the first look inside Pall Mall
Chief Operating Officer for Bruntwood SciTech
said: “Our acquisition of The Pinnacle and investment into Pall Mall once again reaffirms our commitment to the North West’s – and indeed the UK’s – innovation economy
By adding further state-of-the-art workspace designed to support the science
we are creating even more opportunities for businesses operating within that area to collaborate and grow
and ultimately working towards our ambitious goal of creating a £5bn portfolio by 2032
The acquisition was also ideally positioned to cluster with existing Bruntwood SciTech workspaces in the city centre
bolstering the community and knowledge-sharing that is already taking place across our city centre innovation hubs.”

Cyberbullying on Facebook is becoming a thing of the past
so much so that apps now grant people the chance to post anonymous messages for the whole neighborhood to see.
As stated in a November issue of The Oracle
11 to 15 percent of USF students post to Yik Yak
the anonymous social media app that pulls in posts from within a few miles of the user and allows students to communicate without actually needing to see each other.
Yik Yak’s anonymous posters take advantage of being faceless
and they post less than appealing messages
“University of Sexy Females,” “Nothing brings all the races together like hating on Greek life” and of course the occasional person seeking a hookup.
USF’s are not on par with the Yaks that recently gained the attention of the New York Times
One Eastern Michigan University professor threatened legal action after seeing abusive posts about herself that were made during her lecture.
And therein lies the problem — anonymity grants people the ability to post any asinine or offensive comment they desire without the nasty aftertaste of facing the consequences.
there is now Sneek — the Instagram to Yik Yak’s Twitter — where local users post photos without a known identity
The most “up-voted” posts are usually those of a girl’s breasts or butt
most of which include crude comments from unknown users who speak perhaps more bluntly than they would in person
While it is not surprising to read some comments made on nude selfies
the real harsh comments come from posts made when users are supposedly drunk or trying to be personal.
one local user posted a picture of herself with her baby that said
“Being a mom is such a gift.” Some commenters harassed the mother about how she holds her baby
one user mentioned how she “can’t be in El Salvador
While these apps are certainly a case of “if you don’t like it
don’t use it,” that doesn’t acknowledge that feeds are always growing and people are still posting rude things about fellow students.
Building apps on anonymity should not become a trend
The Internet is cruel enough as it is.
at least the worries stop at the original post
Sneek could be evidence enough to really hurt someone
USF students could be seeing nude selfies of someone under 18
or perhaps an alcohol-inspired post could get screenshot and appear on another site
Nobody needs to recognize their friend’s bathroom after seeing that tattoo that was always hidden from sunlight.
While the same problems may happen on Twitter and Facebook
there are at least privacy settings and the knowledge that your family and friends will see everything that gets posted
Yik Yak and Sneek are trying to act as the next step of social media
but it is one that should not be taken.
Adam Mathieu is a junior majoring in studio art
a crackdown on immigration and pushback on diversity
USF is participating in a slew of changes it won’t brag about
corporate donors and university employees may not know what programs and procedures the university is participating in
it is my ability to create a good playlist
Making a playlist is an artform that many can do
It’s about meticulously selecting songs to curate the perfect combination of them
USF used to be so proud of its diversity and of its contributions to building an equitable society
These are the things USF is supposed to stand for
limiting student activism and worst of all
University Police is planning to partner with ICE
Everyone should be allowed to be their true
But it’s difficult to do so when you are not given the right accessibility
The World Health Organization defines gender-affirmative health care as “any single or combination of a number of social
behavioral or medical (including hormonal treatment or surgery) interventions designed to support […]
I remember doing emergency drills in school in case a “bad guy” came into the classroom
but some of us knew we would be doing these drills because of what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown
Ron DeSantis’ “war on woke” is nothing new in Florida
DeSantis has attempted to eliminate ideas he considers “woke” and created laws to enforce that
It has been tough to see these discriminatory acts impact school districts and universities alike
student edited newsroom and needs support from readers like you
Delivery drivers and warehouse workers are already monitored relentlessly
Now white-collar employees are getting a taste of surveillance capitalism
The corporate handwringing started at almost the same time as the lockdown orders: “But if all of our workers are at home
how can we possibly know that they’re actually working?”
Leave it to the tech creeps to figure out a solution to reassure your boss, miles away, that you are indeed doing what you are being paid to do. Amid the rise of “bossware” or “tattleware” – essentially spyware that enables managers to monitor their employees working from home – is a new program called Sneek
which uses your webcam to take a photo of you about once a minute and makes it available to your supervisor
to prove that you are not away from your desk doing God knows what
so the photograph that Sneek takes can catch you doing pretty much anything – picking spinach out of your teeth
or any of the other totally normal things human beings do when alone but that no one really wants documented and distributed
It’s a level of invasion that would horrify even the NSA
and social media is full of stories of restaurant owners withholding their waitstaffs’ tips
fooling each of their employers into thinking they had their full attention
The reasonable response to hearing that someone is pulling a double salary without increasing their workload one bit is
congratulations,” unless you are one of the chronically underemployed
in which case the other possible reaction is
“Save a little of that money for the rest of us
Studies on working from home tend to show that people are actually more productive
but employers are still terrified that their time is being wasted
is displayed when employers waste their employees’ time
and not-technically-required-but-there-will-be-repercussions-for-not-attending “social” events during non-work hours
And every freelancer knows the pain of the time wasted trying to get paid
crafting carefully worded “Just checking up on this!” messages
calling and emailing and texting and pleading and sobbing and hiring a private detective to find the person in the accounting department who can finally cut you a check for $137.82 that they have owed you for three months
you have zero power and you are exactly $89.17 away from making your rent this month
Freelancers and gig workers have been on the cutting edge of not being trusted by their contractors for a long time now. Delivery drivers and warehouse workers are tracked relentlessly
transcribers and other office workers are often asked to use “time management programs” that not only track down to the second how long you work on a task but will detect and deduct “lag time” by monitoring whether your keyboard or trackpad is being used
to make sure that the contractor who is probably already underpaying you doesn’t have to pay for the three minutes you went to the bathroom
this kind of software forces workers to make constant useless gestures toward productivity – banging arrow keys and swirling cursors around just to keep their pay from being docked
The programs that will type useless things for you while you go eat a burrito in peace
or fool your GPS so you can stop hurriedly for coffee while making it look like you are still on the predetermined route
it’s the accounting departments that approve invoices and issue payments to freelancers and subcontractors; please find out what they’ve been doing with their time instead of writing that check they owe me
There absolutely has been a breach of trust between employer and worker
but it’s not up to us – the underpaid and the stressed-out and the very tired and exploited – to prove we deserve our independence
Employers need to treat their workers as something more than an interference with profit

August sees the finale of Sandman/Locke & Key: Hell & Gone with a final #2
Bleeding Cool has had a little look inside those pages
The Corinthian was only seen on the final pages of the previous issue
here is getting a little more involved with Mary Locke…
The Corinthian first appeared in The Sandman #10 ass a nightmare created by Dream
who destroys him for going rogue and failing to fulfill his original design
Dream later recreates him with "some changes"
though the exact nature of these changes is not explicit
His most notable physical feature is his lack of eyes: in their place
Boyd Holbrook is set to portray the Corinthian in the upcoming television series The Sandman on Netflix
Both aircraft would meet or exceed goals of a 2,100 nautical-mile self-deployment capability, a top speed of 230 knots and the ability to carry 16 troops, including four crew members. The V-280's spec sheet says it'll carry 18 troops and top 280 knots

The Walt Disney Company released the new “sneak peek” of Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” on Oct
fueling the audience’s anticipation for the film
directed by Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise
A post shared by @westsidestorythemovie
Most lead roles were not left to Latinos in the 1960s film
Spielberg’s “West Side Story” provides the opportunity to pay off this debt
For others, Spielberg’s “West Side Story” will be the “full circle” moment for the revered actress Rita Moreno
who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Anita in the 1961 version
Moreno has a pivotal role in the new movie while taking on a new position as one of the executive producers
The film stars Rachel Zegler and Ansel Elgort
Ziegler will make her feature film debut in the role of Maria while Elgort will play Tony
The cast of several hundred actors and dancers includes Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez
Ziegler is a singer and songwriter raised in New Jersey
She was among the 30,000 persons auditioning for the role and managed to land it
Spielberg’s “West Side Story” is quite a leap for Zegler
who first played Maria’s role in a Performing Arts School presentation at Bergen Performing Arts Center

just as employers had sent millions of office employees home to work remotely
they went on a buying binge of creepy software with names like Controlio
Sneek and StaffCop – the better to monitor your every keystroke from afar
Orders for such programs soared 87% in April
These kinds of software programs enable your employer to do the following:
go down the hall to the bathroom or fix yourself a sandwich
remarked: “Employees are worried to step away from their desks
take bathroom breaks or even get up for water as we are not aware of the repercussions this might have on our statistics.”
It’s one more COVID-related career hassle to think about
Your best bet for avoiding trouble – and a gross invasion of your privacy – is to conduct only work activities on your work laptop and use a separate computer for all personal stuff
If your employer hasn’t issued you a laptop
but your personal unit is hooked up to the company servers
There are no federal laws and few state statutes that limit how far employers can go in monitoring workers on or off the job
and managers have wide latitude to fire anyone who resists using a computer equipped with spyware – or refuses to have it installed on a personal computer they use at work
“Employers have broad legal leeway to monitor employees on company-provided devices and devices connected to company services and Wi-Fi,” said Enid Zhou
counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center
“There’s not a lot of restriction on what employers can do if they can argue it is a business need.”
Top concerns cited in an American Management Association survey: “adult” sites
text or email about them only from your private smartphone when it is not connected to a company Wi-Fi network
Other tips: Always assume company-owned laptops
Don’t store personal files on company-owned devices
Don’t use tools like Google Docs or Slack for anything you don’t want your employer to see
Could you just disable spyware or find a workaround to avoid it
You could search your laptop or smartphone for monitoring apps – a Google search turns up more than 30 of them
Kickidler and Time Doctor – but companies install them using innocuous-sounding or nonsensical names
you’d raise a red flag in the IT department
Some people have tried battling software with software
is a simple free program that simulates users repositioning their mouse
clicking its buttons and scrolling its wheel
make sure your Slack channels appear busy even when you are away from your desk
The Electronic Frontier Foundation website has a Surveillance Self-Defense section with a guide to tools that enable you to encrypt data and use the Tor anonymizing network
It bears remembering that your IT department may detect this
Lawyers and security consultants have persuaded companies that they need to monitor workers
not just to hound you about the number of keystrokes you make or the time spent on bathroom breaks
They want to make sure you are not harassing fellow workers
or storing illicit material (read: pornography) on company servers
or stealing customer data or selling trade secrets
hasn’t turned people into bullies or creeps or thieves
what gives with the spike in sales of employee-monitoring spyware
Why not just see if workers meet the goals set for them by managers
