Five people were injured in a serious collision between a van and a car in Mussel, a village in the Groningen province, on Wednesday morning. The accident, which occurred around 7:30 a.m. on the N366, also known as A.G. Wildervanckweg, left three individuals seriously injured, RTL reported. Emergency services responded swiftly to the crash with multiple fire teams dispatched from Ter-Apel A trauma helicopter was also called to the scene All five individuals involved in the accident were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment Local authorities have not released the identities of those involved The exact cause of the collision remains unclear and authorities are investigating the incident "...with the win comes the knowledge that I will have to work twice as hard..." It was a weekend to remember for Great Britain’s Dimitri Coutya at the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) World Cup in Stadskanaal The 19-year-old defeated France’s Maxime Valet in the men’s foil category B final to win Britain’s first ever senior wheelchair fencing gold with the foil The win was also enough to propel Coutya to the top of foil event world rankings for the first time The celebrations continued for Coutya with gold in the men’s epee category B contest He beat Brazil’s London 2012 Paralympic champion Jovane Guissone 15-9 in the final to cap an incredible tournament "Lots of hard work from a very large team has paid off,” said Coutya “I've been so close to winning foil gold for a long time now and I'm thrilled to have achieved it “In both foil and epee I faced all my top opponents and managed to come out victorious But with the win comes the knowledge that I will have to work twice as hard to replicate this success and maintain my skills so I will not become complacent." The British team had more to cheer as Rio 2016 runner-up Piers Gilliver added to their gold medal haul with a victory against Poland’s Norbert Calka in the final of the men’s epee category A final Coutya’s two-gold tally was matched by Hungary’s two-time Rio 2016 silver medallist Richard Osvath who topped the podium in both the men’s foil and sabre category A competitions The feat was then also repeated by Thailand’s Sayunsee Jana Jana was a cut above her rivals as she cruised to the women’s category B epee and sabre titles Hong Kong’s five-time Paralympic champion Yu Chui Yee came within a point of being a fourth fencer to leave Stadskanaal with two individual titles In a nail-biting women’s epee category A final Yu landed the crucial blow to beat Ukraine’s Yevheniia Breus 15-14 Yu was then on the losing side of a tense foil category A final against Hungary’s No This time it was Krajnyak who struck when it mattered most for the 15-14 win An inspired Krajnyak then led the Hungarian women’s team to victory over Poland in the final of the women’s team contest In the men’s team epee event it was the Italians who were victorious Despite competing in the junior competition prior to the senior World Cup 18-year-old Emanuele Lambertini showed no sign of fatigue landing the final point of the tournament to secure a 45-44 win over Poland Complete results from the wheelchair fencing Musselkanaal They advised the village to promote as much contact as possible between asylum seekers and the Musselkanalers “God made everyone equal,” residents argue About 90 students of Social Geography & Planning conducted a fieldwork study during the second week of January in the village of Musselkanaal in the Groningen municipality of Stadskanaal on support for the asylum seekers’ center there they presented their research results to stakeholders of the Stadskanaal municipality including the mayor and the asylum center manager Their main joint conclusion: The more contact with asylum seekers residents have the more positive they are. Dispersion lawDivided into 15 groups the third-year students conducted over 500 surveys of 67 Musselkanalers the Musselkanaal asylum center opened its doors to more than 400 asylum seekers The intention of the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) is for the center to remain open until at least 2025 not included in the students’ surveys an as yet undetermined number of asylum seekers might eventually be housed in other municipalities that currently do not receive enough asylum seekers “No second Ter Apel with tents”Musselkanaal is a stone’s throw from Ter Apel where there is an asylum seekers’ center for another 2,000 asylum seekers The latter center has been in the news recently both because of insufficient facilities for too many residents and violent incidents in the center The residents of Musselkanaal therefore indicated above all that they did not want to become “a second Ter Apel with tents.” Both the qualitative and quantitative surveys also showed that residents of Musselkanaal who had heard stories about Ter Apel second or third-hand thought significantly more negatively towards an asylum seekers’ center Negative posts in certain Facebook groups from other Musselkanaal residents who are skeptical of certain media and tell mostly negative stories about asylum seekers in the area contributed to the development of a negative opinion towards the asylum seekers’ center. Neighborhood DayThis opinion seemed to grow stronger when respondents lived farther away from the asylum seekers’ center and thus only had “superficial” contact with its residents But playing soccer together with the asylum seekers or having a neighborhood day with refugees made the villagers think more positively about the presence of an asylum seekers’ center The role of the church also proved important in the villagers’ perceptions as they regularly mingled there with asylum seekers: Faith appeared to connect “God created everyone equal.” Most Musselkanalers thus seemed proud of their church but were equally proud of their congregation That admiration stemmed in part from the rapid acceptance of Ukrainian refugees “The Netherlands sends its overflow to Groningen but the congregation has handled it well.” The municipality was not entirely pleased with the results because the support base was smaller than individuals involved in the center and the municipality had expected The municipality was shocked by some racist responses from villagers such as one respondent who said “I still get scared when I see a black person on the street at night” and from a resident who called Islam “a source of evil.” Soccer tournamentThe municipality had also hoped that the students would do more research on proposals for contact between Musselkanalers and asylum seekers was that almost all Musselkanalers made a distinction between “fortune seekers” (those who come from a safe country) and real refugees (war refugees) The latter group was overwhelmingly welcomed “Everyone who lives in Musselkanaal is a Musselkanaler.” The incredible Bowling Rode Loper opened its doors in early April Dimitri Coutya’s 2017 season performances show just how determined he is to put away the disappointment of leaving Rio 2016 without a medal The British wheelchair fencer has made the podium in his past three foil category B events including gold at the World Cup in Stadskanaal The results have earned the 19-year-old not just the respect of his rivals “Becoming world No.1 has always been one of my goals in fencing and it’s hard to believe that I hold that spot now,” Coutya said “It took years of hard work and I'm absolutely delighted Being top in the world comes with the added pressure of knowing that everybody is gunning for you I know plenty of capable and worthy opponents who will be looking to take that title from me “I will be training harder to ensure I'm in the best possible position to defend my title over the coming competitions.” taking gold in the event to seal a double in Stadskanaal and losing only in the final of the epee competition at the World Cup in Warsaw “Epee does not come as naturally to me as foil does,” Coutya admitted “I find that the best way to cope with this is to take aspects of my foil fencing into epee adopting an unorthodox style and using it to my advantage.” Coutya does not need to look far for an epee sparring partner Great Britain teammate and close friend Piers Gilliver is the men’s epee event category A world No.1 “The fact that we are friends allow us to propel each other and challenge each other in ways that others may struggle to do and ultimately helps to improve both our performances,” Coutya said “It is also great to have someone around that I can relax with when we are not competing.” Coutya’s focus for the remainder of the year is now the World Championships where he hopes to underline his status as the best in the world I am in the best possible position for Rome which is the most important competition of the year At the last World Championships two years ago I won silver with the foil I am going to be looking to at the very least to defend that medal It is a big goal and will require a lot of hard work but I feel that I should aim as high as possible I have a brilliant team behind me and I know they will do all they can to help me get there.” The IWAS (International Wheelchair and Amputee Sport Federation) World Championships takes place 7–12 November in Rome is the world-record holder in the 100m T54 sprint Leo Pekka Tahti recalls a particular national event back home in Finland when the front of his wheelchair just fell off mid-race The Finnish 100m T54 world-record holder and three-time Paralympic champion in the event remembers it like it was yesterday “It just crushed in the front part,” Tahti said “It just cut off 20m before the finish line in a competition.” which was a hundredth of a second better than his gold-medal winning race at the IPC Athletics European Championships on Monday (25 June) in Stadskanaal But with his win this week came a European title Tahti beat the Netherlands’ Kenny van Weeghel and Germany’s Marc Schuh for the title in an event he deemed will be the second biggest competition of the year for him other than the London 2012 Paralympic Games which he has already been selected to compete in has been on the wheelchair racing circuit for 13 years now but claims there are still several years left in his competitive career and that all he has to do every time he hits the track is propel himself as fast as humanely possible for the first 30-40m you’ve probably lost a medal by then,” he said so other athletes may want to take his advice Tahti holds the world-record time of 13.76 in the 100m T54 which he set at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games en route to winning gold in Beijing the stadium was a fantastic stadium,” Tahti said I’m not sure the stadium will be full in London Tahti was the only wheelchair racer represented from Finland Finland plans to send as many as four wheelchair racers to compete on the big international stage The Championships in Stadskannal are not yet over for Tahti as he will compete again on Tuesday in the 400m T54 race – an event he is not quite as strong in but believes there is still room for improvement and he will face the same top opponents as in the 100m in van Weeghel and Schuh Just 0.09 seconds seperated the top four finishers in the men's 100m at the 2011 IPC Atheltics World Championships “We are now 15 months away from the start of the Championships and I was impressed with the level of planning and detail that the Local Organizing Committee has put in so far The venue is great and located in a beautiful park whilst the city is totally stunning Our athletes cannot fail to be impressed." The northern Netherlands have just received three new solar parks totalling 152 megawatts solar panels a combination of mono- and bifacial modules is used Chint Solar Nederlands has announced the successful completion of 3 solar parks in Drenthe and Groningen 152 MW of solar panels have been installed Zonnepark Stadskanaal has a capacity of 101 MW Zonnepark Buinerveen of 45 MW and Zonnepark Ommelanderwijk of 5.7 MW The solar parks were connected to the grid of operators Enexis and TenneT The solar parks were initiated by PowerField and have been further developed and realized by Chint Solar Chint Solar also developed and constructed the grid connection infrastructure Chint Solar acted as the leading EPC contractor coordinated various subcontractors and took responsibility for network integration and meeting all local and legal requirements The construction of Zonnepark Stadskanaal started in February 2020 Chint Solar installed 245,000 solar panels on 83 hectares of land at the Van Boekerenweg Chint Solar connected this solar park directly to the high voltage electrical substation of TenneT located in Meeden To this purpose a 16 kilometer 110 kv cable route was built between the solar park and the point of connection in Meeden The construction works for Zonnepark Buinerveen started in May 2020 About 110,000 solar panels have been installed on 40 hectares of land Zonnepark Buinerveen is connected to Zonnepark Stadskanaal via a 13 kilometer private medium voltage 33 kv cable route The combined grid connection for the solar parks in Stadskanaal and Buinerveen is connected to the high-voltage grid This is a first interconnection of two solar parks for the Netherlands A thorough and long preparation was required The technology and selection of components of Zonnepark Buinerveen was characterized by the high restrictions on the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) directive applied to this geographical location The EMC directive imposes limits to the electromagnetic emissions of equipment In order to allow for the realization of the solar park specific agreements had to be made with Astron (the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy) that would guarantee the construction and operation of the solar park within the required norms Chint Solar has therefore developed a project-specific DC filter and taken additional measures to limit the overall EMC emissions and stay within the imposed limits The complex and customized EMC emission control solution was first tested in an external laboratory and subsequently on site See also: Floating PV combined with wastewater treatment ‘The complexity of these projects makes them unique for Chint Solar Head of Project Management at Chint Solar Europe ‘Meeting the 110 kV Requirements for Generators (RfG) Grid Code reaching the agreed EMC limits and implementing the projects within the fixed time limit during the global COVID-19 pandemic makes these solar parks great references We thank all partners involved for their remarkable efforts in advancing and realizing the projects.’ The construction of Zonnepark Ommelanderwijk The former industrial estate was unusable for farming because of pre-existing pollution and significant land remediation measures had to be taken prior to the construction of the solar park This will allow Chint Solar to test and prove the benefits of bifacial modules over monofacial in real-life applications solar energy is a perfect solution to use otherwise unusable land for valuable and sustainable energy generation’ Head of Business for Chint Solar Nederland ‘This type of land conversion can become a role model for other unusable locations We want to copy this concept to other sites in the Netherlands.’ Chint Solar will continue to be involved in all 3 solar parks Zonnepark Services Nederland – a joint venture of Chint Solar and Goldbeck Solar – was founded in October 2020 It will provide the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) services for the solar parks With 440 MW of O&M contracts for solar parks in its portfolio it is one of the largest PV service companies in the Netherlands ‘After connecting the 103 MW Zonnepark Midden Groningen in 2019 these 3 new solar parks are real icon projects’ the solar parks will provide about 50,000 households in the Netherlands with sustainable electricity and help the regions achieve their local energy targets We would like to thank all public stakeholders contractors and consultants for their strong cooperation and participation in making the solar parks a reality.’ (mfo) Looking to stay on top of all relevant industry and business news? Click here to subscribe to our free twice-weekly pv Europe newsletter. Seventy others were taken to Vlissingen by bus at the end of the afternoon. Eighty-five asylum seekers, mainly "vulnerable" people, are being cared for in Stadskanaal, a COA spokesperson said. The municipality of Doetinchem will open a crisis emergency shelter for refugees from Ter Apel on Sunday. It will house the 150 asylum seekers who were accommodated in sports halls in Apeldoorn on Thursday evening. In total, the emergency shelter will offer space to 225 refugees who can stay until the end of the year. The emergency shelter in Doetinchem will also offer space for families who are currently staying in Heeten in Overijssel. The emergency shelter in Heeten is closed. The asylum seekers are housed in Doetinchem in residential units on a site next to the police station. Each unit can accommodate four to five people. A pavilion for central facilities will also be placed on the site such as first aid and catering. The site is also close to shops in the Gelderland town. Residents are not allowed to leave the location between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., according to the municipality.
