What a talent! Just 48 hours after winning the final time trial in Nice and taking home the yellow jersey at the 2024 Tour de France, Tadej Pogačar won again. The Team UAE Emirates rider flew into the small town of Surhuisterveen, The Netherlands, and took an incredible win at the post-Tour criterium
Less than 48 hours after being celebrated in Nice as the winner of the Tour de France
Pogačar departed from Nice airport on Tuesday and landed at Groningen Eelde Airport
he faced off against riders such as Jasper Philipsen
while the yellow jersey triumphantly led the pack across the finish line
Philipsen and Poels stood beside him on the podium
despite being fatigued from the Grand Tour
out-smarted one of the best sprinters in the world
Pogi was strangely wearing his yellow jersey
perhaps because it was the only kit he had packed
He must have had it in his race bag from the weekend

most likely exhausted from the efforts of the circuit race
he was feted at home for his other accomplishments of 2024
Although he has ruled out riding the Vuelta a España
Pogi definitely will be aiming for the Road Worlds in Zurich
The tough course favors the 26-year-old as he aims to become the first winner of the Triple Crown since Stephen Roche in 1987
The only other rider to do so was Eddy Merckx
Pogi will also be racing in Quebec as part of his rainbow jersey bid
He will race next at the Grands Prix Cyclistes de Montréal and Québec
Pogačar on Merckx comparisons: ‘A cannibal? I eat sweets!’
The Slovenian also recently announced he won’t be racing the Olympics. Initially
it’s solely the latter given that he must be fresh as a daisy to win the crit
No matter how the rest of his season goes, he’s already accomplished a lot: the Surhuisterveen victory will surely stand out on his palmarès. Interestingly, he’s not the only Tour winner to snag a big win at a post-Tour crit. Jonas Vingegaard–not necessarily known for his crit skills
also won one shortly after this Tour win in 2023
There seems to be a trend of Tour winners always seeming to win these races

World Champion takes the first leader's jersey in three-day race
The time trial World Champion was fastest in the 14.4km route with a winning time of 18:34 to beat Riejanne Markus (Jumbo-Visma) by seven seconds and Marlen Reusser (SD Worx) by 25 seconds.
“My main goal was to really enjoy this race in the rainbow jersey and go as fast as I could of course, but not just expect to win because I have the jersey,” said Van Dijk. “It was special to ride in the jersey today and even more so to win in it, especially because the competition was high with Reusser here, who was my main competitor at the Worlds which was really close.”
Van Dijk, who has won the overall title on four previous editions (2013, 2016, 2017 and 2021), takes the first leader's jersey of the three-day event as the race heads into stage 2 on Friday for a 135km race between Eastermar and Bakkeveen.
“I am in the leader’s jersey but only by seven seconds; it’s very close with me and Markus so it will be crucial to race super attentive and not let any dangerous breaks go,” said Van Dijk.
“It will be challenging to defend this for sure, but I will give it my all and we’ll see. It’s not going to be easy to win this race, but for me the main goal was this time trial and I am very happy to win it. Now we go on and we’ll give it our all to keep this jersey.”

Dutch rider second to Van Kessel in muddy LottoNl-Jumbo debut
finishing second in the Centrumcross Surhuisterveen on Wednesday
Boom was in contention for victory until sliding out on the final lap and being passed by eventual winner Corne van Kessel (Telenet-Fidea)
Boom rejoins LottoNl-Jumbo through 2018
Boom heads to Basque Country for low-key start to cyclo-cross campaign
Many of the big names in men's cyclo-cross were absent as they rested up before the national championships at the weekend
The last time Boom stood on a podium was at the end of 2010 in a snow-packed Zolder World Cup
where he used his exceptional bike-handling skills to win ahead of Niels Albert
this time it was a cold rain and ankle-deep mud
Boom rolled a tyre early in the race and was forced to chase
passing Van der Haar and closing in on Van Kessel mid-way through the hour-long race
but the Telenet rider slid out through the tape lining the course
but then too was caught up by the course tape and was passed by Van Kessel and could not return
renounced the discipline to focus on the road in 2011
He decided to return this season with a limited but focused cyclo-cross schedule
beginning in December in three Spanish C2 races before heading to Belgium for the Zolder World Cup
SURHUISTERVEEN - At least 85 people linked to a care home in Surhuisterveen
Friesland have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus
were found to be carrying the B117 mutation of the virus
a highly contagious variant thought to be one of the causes of a surge in infections in the United Kingdom at the end of last year
The group of 85 people who tested positive in January includes 45 residents of 't Suyderhuys
Both groups saw the infection total double since Monday
Two of the residents who tested positive for the viral infection later died
The GGD municipal health service in the region tested 59 people at 't Suyderhuys just on Wednesday and 21 were diagnosed with the coronavirus infection
"Although the virus samples have not yet been examined for DNA material
the GGD Fryslân assumes that this is probably also the British variant," GGD Fryslân said
"It is a plausible explanation for the large number of infections in 't Suyderhuys and a sad conclusion
We regret this very much,” said Jan Maartens Nuijens
workers and their family members were all greatly concerned about the situation
't Suyderhuys residents have been confined to their apartments in quarantine since January 8
with some only working with patients infected with the virus
and others only working with residents who are both asymptomatic and have tested negative
Both 't Suyderhuys and a neighboring facility
no infections were discovered at the latter
GGD Fryslân is considering a plan to test more residents and employees against coronavirus infections as a precaution
said it would provide support in any way it can

The Prince of Wales: France reacts to Geraint Thomas' Tour de France win
The Tour stars – with the jersey winners often racing in their yellow
white or polka-dot uniforms – command handsome appearance fees
and it's all the better if such financial incentives allow them to win the circuit race
or at least appear on the podium alongside any local pros
the criterium races have become a greatly anticipated spectacle in the towns and villages of the more traditional cycling nations of Europe during what is an otherwise depressing week that follows the excitement of three weeks of the Tour de France
Local elite riders join up with some of the sport's biggest names for a number of high-speed laps of a closed street circuit
and spectators happily pay for the privilege of watching the same riders who have illuminated their TV screen during the previous weeks
hoping for an autograph and a picture to finish their evening
Sagan was also set to appear at the Roeselare crit in West Flanders on Tuesday night
where Belgian national champion Yves Lampaert and Dutch national champion (and 2015 cycle-cross world champion) Mathieu van der Poel will also feature
Meanwhile, 2018 Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas was set to appear, no doubt in yellow, at the Profronde van Surhuisterveen criterium in the north of the Netherlands on Tuesday evening.
This was in fact set to be the Team Sky rider's only criterium appearance; Het Nieuwsblad suggests that the presence of Sagan at a number of the Belgian events means that the organisers can't afford Thomas as well, with the going rate this year to secure a rider of Sagan's calibre reported to be around €60,000 (£53,500/US$70,000).
Spectators gladly pay to see the world's best bike riders, who in turn receive a nice pay-cheque, and the organisers take their percentage. Local shopkeepers and hoteliers benefit, too, and everyone goes away happy, already looking forward to the following year.
The day after being feted across Paris, Froome headed to the Natour Criterium in Aalst along with Peter Sagan. The criteriums are less races and more spectacle
with the winner being generally pre-arranged
Sagan topped the podium in Aalst with Froome and Belgian champion Preben Van Hecke
was the 'Daags na de Tour' or Day after the Tour in Boxmeer
this time with home riders Robert Gesink (LottoNl-Jumbo) and Bauke Mollema (Trek)
Quintana claimed top honours ahead of Froome and Serge Pauwels (MTN-Qhubeka) at the Natour Criterium in Roeselare
Wednesday's race was the Profronde van Lommel
where once more Sagan landed on the podium
The post-Tour criteriums run through the rest of the week across Europe
