The number of reports of confused people in public has risen in many municipalities
A decrease of more than 60 per cent compared to 2023
Waalre wants to share that approach with the rest of the Netherlands
“The secret is that we work closely together”
Those words are from Mayor Marcel Oosterveer
He is at the helm of the village under the smoke of Eindhoven
district health officers and housing administrators
they try to curb the nuisance of confused people in public in a different way
but by helping people get their lives back on track
“People who make a report to the police or municipality and say: ‘We have someone walking here who shows confused behaviour’
And then we make sure we call GGZ (Gemeenschappelijke Gezondheidsdienst
We inform the neighbourhood and the people concerned are helped”
Informing the neighbourhood prevents residents from making multiple reports about the same person
the Municipality of Waalre has far fewer reports than similar-sized villages such as Nuenen (168) and Oirschot (66)
Those municipalities see an increase of 127 and 32 per cent respectively
Causes include cuts in mental health care and long waiting lists
help is arranged for confused people as soon as possible
this means that they receive help that is personally tailored to them
an admission to a rehabilitation clinic or an investigation into how the mental symptoms originate
This is because the problems of confused people vary in Waalre
“They include people with drug-related problems
people who have had a car accident and therefore have a brain abnormality”
So it requires customisation and short lines of communication between the parties involved
other municipalities would do well to follow the Waalre approach
“I try to convince other municipalities that this approach works
“It is human work and not everything can be copied
That means you have to completely adapt your organisation to this way of working
It means getting to the front of the line and not waiting for things to escalate”

Traffic had been driving along the renovated Eindhovenseweg through Aalst-Waalre since late December
but on Tuesday it was also officially put into use
According to councillor Suzan van de Goor of the Municipality of Waalre
Eindhovenseweg has been completely redone and the redesign has created a “more sustainable
on which the councillor and the contractor took a seat
marked the inauguration of the renovated road
The councillor praised the patience for local residents and road users during the works
we have worked together with contractor Den Ouden to reduce cut-through traffic
improve air quality and create a green and safe environment”
But the redesign does not only consist of visible improvements
“We ban lorry traffic and cut-through traffic from our village centres”
The necessary adjustments were also made underground
Van de Goor: “Think of the replacement of 4.8 kilometres of sewers and the removal and relocation of eventually 33,000 cubic metres of soil
The constructed sewer system collects rainwater separately
which will help meet future climate challenges”
The new Eindhovenseweg is part of Duurzaam door Waalre (sustainable through Waalre) program
we are rigorously reducing the number of traffic movements on Eindhovenseweg in Aalst and on Traverse in Waalre village”
Van de Goor believes that the new N69 – between southern Valkenswaard and A2/A67 – is the alternative for through (freight) traffic
“That has a fast and comfortable alternative with this and no longer has to drive through village centres and on local roads”
TU/e together with WeConnect and Het Huis van Waalre successfully demonstrated the first quantum secured local governmental connection in the Netherlands
This marks a key milestone towards futureproof
and secure telecommunications and shows market readiness of quantum communication technologies
The demonstration took place between the Dutch municipality of Waalre and the local network operator WeConnect’s Waalre office
After a short introduction in the Raadzaal of Het Huis van Waalre
a team of scientists and engineers from Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e) and the local telecom operator WeConnect established a secure communication channel to showcase a quantum secured videocall between mayor Marcel Oosterveer and alderman Peet van de Loo
Sebastian Verschoor (TU/e) explaining the principles of quantum technology and the importance of quantum secured communications
“Quantum computing poses a threat to existing security
but with the demonstration in the city of Waalre we show how quantum communications can provide a solution to overcome this threat
researcher and member of the Quantum Communications Team at TU/e
The link was made possible through the cooperation of TU/e with WeConnect Waalre and Het Huis van Waalre
showcasing successful innovative collaboration in the Brainport region in addition to demonstrating the latest quantum secure communications technology
WeConnect as a local network operator deployed the optical fibre connection for this connection
The equipment for quantum key distribution (QKD) – the quantum technology employed to secure this link – and for establishing the network was installed by the team from TU/eat both ends of the link
"WeConnect is the owner of its glass fibre network
and we are very happy to be able to bring to together TU/e and the municipality of Waalre to realise this secure connection
In Waalre we can be playground for the latest technologies and innovations
fitting with the innovation driven character of WeConnect
It is important to realise a secure connection with quantum technologies and to lay the foundations for secure communications for the coming 100years." says Marcel Menting
This connection between the municipality of Waalre and WeConnect Waalre is part of the quantum technology agnostic Eindhoven quantum (secure) communications testbed currently under development to demonstrate quantum communications use-cases and drive the adoption of quantum (secure) communications
These efforts are funded by the Quantum Delta NL (QDNL) growth funds on Quantum Communications and by the QCINed project through the European Quantum Communications Infrastructure (EuroQCI) programme
“Working with WeConnect and the Huis of Waalre has been an absolute pleasure in the preparation of this demo and is one of the first steps in building the testbed for quantum secure communications
We’re grateful to be able to collaborate with early adaptors with such innovative thinking such as WeConnect and the municipality of Waalre and to be able to bring our research from the lab to the eye of the public.” says dr.ir
assistant professor at the TU/e and leading the rollout of the testbed
Quantum computers are capable of breaking current encryption
but now that quantum computers are rapidly maturing a societal danger is created
Criminals and geopolitical enemies may gain access to critical information
There are many programs ongoing worldwide to counter this threat
Japan and China being particularly well funded
At TU/e a large program is run to generate new quantum communication technology
and provide industry support for its further uptake and deployment
Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is the method we use to exchange cryptographic keys using quantum techniques
These keys in combination with next generation post-quantum cryptographic (PQC) algorithms provide protection to the widest class of attackers and therefore confidentiality and data security are guaranteed
is one of the first steps towards a connected quantum internet
which will unlock the full potential of quantum communications technology
which promises secure and fast communication in the future
Long-term security: Unlike traditional security methods
which are likely to be broken by quantum computers
the quantum key distribution at the heart of the quantum secure connection offers long-term security
Even with future advanced technologies like quantum computers
it will be impossible to compromise the distribution of the keys which are used to securely encrypt the data
several sectors where quantum key distribution is attracting attention include banking
The realization of the first quantum secure local governmental connection is a milestone in the building of the Eindhoven technology agnostic testbed for quantum secure communication
TU/e is building a testbed to prove and further develop QKD and quantum communications technology
The testbed offers access to an extensive infrastructure which allows for real-world testing conditions and for developing new use cases for quantum technologies
The fibre network stretches from Eindhoven to Waalre
“Demonstrating QKD and quantum secure communications in realistic deployed settings together with classical networks is absolutely key to show its added benefit and help the technology get adopted.” says Rommel
Companies and researchers are invited to work within the testbed to develop components
software and products for application in quantum communications
The testbed will also provide validation and certification for future commercial products
The work on the testbed combines the expertise from different groups in the Mathematics and Computer Science and Electrical Engineering departments
as well as software engineering and programming

The latest home to garner attention is Villa Waalre
which was created by Russell Jones architects
Based just outside of Eindhoven in the Netherlands
the space is a family residence based in a forested Dune landscape
has a civic policy in order to keep trees populated through the area
And this character is seen in Villa Waalre
The space was originally occupied by Frans Otten
It was also designed by the design director of Phillips
The new space makes the natural features part of the design
something you can see more of in the gallery above
Councillor Peet van de Loo has decided to definitively resign from her position in the municipality of Waalre
Van de Loo states that she is stepping down because ‘the governance culture of Waalre does not suit her’
What she precisely means by this is not made clear in the letter
but she does not wish to elaborate further
‘I would then affect all the people who are working very hard for the municipality,’ is her brief statement
Van de Loo had already been on sick leave since June of last year
the third application for her sick leave was approved by the municipal administration of Waalre
‘I would like to thank you for the trust you have placed in me and for the space you have provided for my recovery when the situation called for it,’ she writes in a response
The municipal council and the college of mayor and alderpersons express their respect for the alderperson’s choice
‘We thank her for the pleasant cooperation
her committed efforts and everything she has meant for the community of Waalre.’
Van de Loo became an alderpeesinin Waalre in the summer of 2022
will remain an alderperson in Waalre at least until the municipal elections next year
Customers in focus and a tailwind to drive: LAPP Benelux is growing consistently and is the hub for our customers in Belgium
We are always there for our customers and have our company precisely tailored to their respective wishes and needs
That is our recipe for success,” reveals Ad van de Noort
The figures speak for themselves: in the last three years, the sales of the national subsidiary have increased by almost 20 percent. In the same period, the number of employees has increased from 42 to 46. In the current fiscal year (2021/22), LAPP Benelux has gone into overdrive
51 colleagues are working hard to remain successful
there are still six vacancies in various departments
The most important focus markets for the national company are intralogistics, OEMs and switch cabinet manufacturers. Strategic relationships with sales partners are being consistently developed and expanded. The most important customers include system integrators for projects, distribution partners and wholesalers as preferred suppliers, but also many small customers who order via the e-shop
The Dutch manufacturer of industrial sawing machines, Harwi, is a prime example of the best customer relations. In order to increase its own productivity and simplify assembly, Harwi opted for customized cable assemblies from LAPP
the machine manufacturer now saves four hours per machine built
which adds up to an extra machine every two to three weeks
the installation of the sawing machines on site is noticeably easier and the risk of incorrect cabling is reduced
Ad van der Noort on the strategy: “A high focus for us is on supporting existing customers in order to retain them and get them excited about our connectivity solutions
we also target selected new customers.” And this works very successfully
the LAPP Benelux team was able to significantly improve its digital working methods during the pandemic
“Our working methods became more efficient
By learning to structure our meetings even better
they take less time than before the pandemic,” says van der Noort
The Lapp Group is one of the world’s leading providers of intelligent connection solutions

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is proud to announce that on the 29th of June the first local governmental connection with secure quantum communications is being demonstrated in the Netherlands
In this demonstration a connection is made between mayor Oosterveer of Waalre in his office in Het Huis van Waalre to the network operator WeConnect’s Waalre office
This demonstration will show the usability and market readiness of secure quantum communications
WeConnect and Waalre are at the top of the developments on secure quantum communications
working together to ensure that telecommunication remains stable

Waalre will have to live within its means in the near future
“It will all be a bit more sober”
It is not a cheerful message that the Mayor and Aldermen have to tell
including in youth care and support for the elderly
And so the shortages are increasing rapidly
Measures are therefore necessary to get back into line financially
things are getting worse in various areas”
“We have had to set aside a lot of money to invest in new school buildings
There is a reserve fund for absolute emergencies
but also putting on the brakes in care for the elderly and young people
There is some grumbling about that from citizens
But postponing recovery for a while is manageable
more emphasis is placed on prevention: preventing
young people and the elderly from turning to more expensive care and support at a later date
the options for generating more income are limited
Van de Goor: “You can increase income from housing by turning the property tax knob (OZB tax)
but the municipal council does not want that
And increasing the dog tax also yields little”
councillor for Zorg en Welzijn (care and welfare)
“You can impose additional charges in touristic municipalities
It is clear to the three directors at the table why Waalre is in dire straits
Small municipalities are finding it increasingly difficult
And this while the same municipalities are given more complex tasks
“We have to train people for this ourselves
Vortman thinks that this will no longer be sustainable in the long term
now that more and more small municipalities can hardly make ends meet
We now clean 1 in 12 houses and 1 in 12 families receive youth care
there are staff shortages and budgets are shrinking
The government no longer always has the resources to carry out the tasks
People should start to rely more on their immediate environment”
Van de Goor and Oosterveer also want to emphasise that it is not all doom and gloom
We will also not stop the redevelopment of Eindhovenseweg
Oosterveer: “We want to keep Waalre livable

The distance to the government is small here
the municipal council will debate the financial situation in Waalre

The latest report from Atlas Research concludes that Waalre is the best place to live in Brabant
The village scores best for quality of life and availability of facilities
Oirschot (42nd) is the only other municipality in the top fifty
exercising and going out were important parameters considered
And all this can be reached within a travel time of fifteen minutes
Waalre benefits from the village character and has the accessibility of the big city because of its proximity to Eindhoven
The report ‘Happiness in a Small Corner’ also considers issues such as safety
The researchers also reveal that the general quality of life in the Netherlands is going well
The report describes the villages as ‘small but nice’
The smaller towns generally have fewer facilities but less nuisance and insecurity
This typically makes it more pleasant to live than in large places
Eggshells still cling to the walls and windows—remnants of the protest against a new asylum seekers’ centre (AZC) in Best
an information session at the Naestenbest sports hall was abruptly halted when a group of rioters disrupted the event
The meeting was intended to inform registered residents of Best in small groups about the AZC plans
Activists from the group AZC Best Nee arrived with tractors
the situation soon spiralled out of control
“The evening started peacefully,” said Henk Steenbakkers
“But when a large group of young people who hadn’t registered were denied entry
they forced it open twice more and even tried to enter through the emergency exit
“At least two cobras exploded right in front of my house,” said a resident
Action Group AZC Best No disapproves of violence
“We are against violence and vandalism
We also clearly asked not to use aggression,” said Steenbakkers
The group wants to protest in an orderly fashion
We want to make our voices heard with a large group peacefully
Together we are strong.” The action group hopes that the municipality will drop the plan for the azc in this way
the municipality of Best announced the intended location of a new asylum seekers’ center
On a meadow on the corner of the Hooistraat and the Schansstraat
residential units for a total of 192 people are to be built within one to two years
Many residents are worried about the arrival of the asylum centre
“I don’t hear many good stories about azc’s,” says one man
The reception of asylum seekers in Son en Breugel and Waalre evokes mixed reactions from residents in the villages
about 150 refugees will move into temporary shelter
Now Son en Breugel and Waalre also plan to offer shelter to asylum seekers
An asylum shelter for 70 refugees will be built on the former Boerenbond site in Breugel
The land has already been purchased and COA (central agency for the reception of asylum seekers) must come up with a proposal to use the site as a shelter
The immediate residents don’t like that idea
“It is a quiet neighbourhood with lots of old people
I don’t think anyone is happy about it”
I would rather see a smaller number so that it is manageable”
The shelter in Waalre for 150 asylum seekers is temporary
This shelter will also be located on a former Boerenbond site
but asylum seekers can stay there from April
so I don’t think that’s a problem”
Another resident thinks it is good that Waalre wants to help refugees: “Every municipality must help
those people must also have somewhere to sleep”
The Municipality of Best is still looking for a suitable location for a new shelter
A recently passed law allows The Hague to force municipalities to take in refugees
This did not stop him from becoming mayor of Waalre a year ago
peace seems to have returned to the municipality
So there was a need to make a start on a new era
The final piece or the beginning piece – it depends how you look at it – was my appointment
That was also what I said: “we know what happened
but we are now going to look forward.'”
that it is “just very quiet in Waalre
But we challenge each other in a healthy way
Oosterveer certainly does not want to downplay his role in this
“The municipality needed the mayor to exude calm
A mayor in the right sense of the word.”
Waalre lies within the large Brainport area and in the past there have been some suggestions that the municipality should join Eindhoven.Oosterveer
does not see this as an option: “Waalre is actually like your own living room
Waalre is not where you go to work and give your all”
Waalre is a very important part of the chain in which residents place their trust
we need a municipality that is close to the people. So I think the raison d’être of a municipality is not ‘we have to be merged because it is more efficient’
who need to express their opinions and see that they are being listened to
Hence I also think the discussion about Waalre being too small is nonsense.”
The Municipality of Waalre is a lot smaller than his previous employer
Yet there are also major problems in Waalre
the first question is whether I can and may do this”
“I might be able to build that school
but then I won’t have the electricity”
Waalre has a challenge when it comes to affordable housing”
We are ‘stuck.’ Accommodation must be found not only for Waalre residents
Refugees and asylum seekers cannot end up on the streets either
Waalre took responsibility for sheltering these people
‘Affordable and sustainable housing in a green living environment’
These are the starting points for all housing plans within the Municipality of Waalre
preparations are underway for building project ‘t Laar and renovation Malvalaan
A nursing home is planned at location ‘t Laar
three existing flats will be renovated and expanded
Waalre – in collaboration with housing corporation Wooninc
and senior citizens’ organisation Oktober – is not only creating housing for (vulnerable) senior citizens
the realisation of suitable housing for the elderly promotes the flow on the housing market for other age groups
The former care complex at location ‘t Laar has been demolished in 2021
A new nursing home for ninety residents will be built at this location
the complex is intended for residents who can no longer live independently
The complex is to replace De Hoevenakkers in Waalre and will soon consist of a stacked building with different building heights
Stichting (foundation) Oktober is working on concrete plans to realise the residential-care complex
The grounds surrounding the buildings will be redesigned
This outdoor space will be accessible to local residents
This will create more green space for walking through and going to the shopping centre De Voldijn
A landscaping plan will be drawn up for this
Parking and landscaping will be worked out in this
Neighbours and other interested parties can contribute ideas about this
The development of both the new building for Oktober and the renovation – including possible additional floors – by Wooninc
Currently the procedure for determining the zoning plan is underway
It will be presented to the city council on 16 April
after which a final decision will be made on 7 May
the environmental permit can be applied for
Waalre is going to invest heavily in primary education
Two new buildings will be constructed for two existing schools and one completely new school in the coming years
The total cost of the plans is around 15 million euros
The new buildings are really necessary, thinks Michel Herps, director of primary school De Meent
He sounded the alarm five years ago and was – partly – at the cradle of the Integral Housing Plan (IHP) Education within the Waalre municipality
“I think it was 2018/2019 that we submitted a renovation request
the indoor climate in our school was and is a source of concern for us
We therefore wanted to modernise the entire building immediately
They wanted to build more sustainably and think about the future of primary education in Waalre.”
it was the reason for taking a close look at all schools
Waalre’s population is growing explosively
partly due to the arrival of ASML employees
More spacious facilities for education are therefore badly needed in the short term
A good example is De Wilderen primary school in Waalre-Dorp
but in fact the premises are already too small
Gerry de Bruyn is currently regional director within SKOzoK, a foundation for education and childcare. This includes the primary schools De Wilderen, De Drijfveer and Christoffelschool in Waalre
she was cluster director of De Wilderen and she recognises the problems: “The school was built for 500 pupils
we have already had to add two temporaryy classrooms
De Wilderen would benefit from a rapid expansion of their facilities
so that children can start spreading out more.”
Apart from new buildings, education-wise there will also be something to choose from for Waalre. Education councillor Kees Vortman: “We are not just going to build two new schools, but we have also looked at distribution within the municipality. We think every parent should have freedom of choice close to home. We will first build for De Drijfveer in Waalre-Dorp
Then it will be the turn of De Meent in Aalst-Waalre
Those children can then temporarily move into De Drijfveer’s old building.”
the total cost of the integral housing plan in Waalre is estimated at around 15 million euros
“If it’s not enough – after all
you don’t know what construction costs will be in the coming period – then we have to make sure we get more money in
Because we cannot make it not to invest in good education for our children,” education councillor Vortman said
And then there is the arrival of the new primary school De Gelukstuin. At the moment, the initiators of this new form of education are still waiting for final approval, but they are already working together with RBOB De Kempen
Ron Schoonhein is group director of this umbrella organisation of 15 public schools in the region
He explains that De Gelukstuin will soon be in the same building as De Drijfveer
Schoonhein says: “There is a group of parents who miss something in the educational landscape in the Waalre region and want a different form of education
The classical model of groups 1 to 8 is being abandoned and there is a lot of focus on ‘what does this child need to learn at this moment?’ And then not only inside the building
Schoonheim expects De Gelukstuin to be able to start in the middle of next year
This should then be in temporary accommodation
The joint new building of De Drijfveer and De Gelukstuin is not expected to be ready until 2027

There is also a fair with 400 stalls on the Woenselse Markt. More information about times and locations can be found here

The Municipality of Waalre wants to do something about the amount of through freight traffic passing through Waalre village
The municipality wanted to reduce the amount of freight traffic by limiting the height of the load
but research has shown that this solution has its drawbacks
A height restriction was said to be most effective in reducing the amount of through freight traffic
It was also supposed to have also have beneficial effects on traffic safety in the village
a height restriction has the most negative effects for supplying the village
there is said to be little support for it among stakeholders
A metering light could also garner little support
and would also worsen traffic safety in the village
A ban indicated by traffic signs seems more likely to succeed
requesting that their traffic take a different route also seems a more popular solution
The Waalre town council will consider the issue in October
15,10 or 5 kilometres through the city and nature of Eindhoven and Waalre
There are various stamp posts along the way with refreshments and at the finish there is a festive reception with a medal
who are motivated to find sponsors for their achievement

For Harrie Verbeek from Waalre it is almost daily fare
he is the Dutch champion tree climber and is now going for the European title
Verbeek not only had to – literally – climb a tree for it
such as pruning branches and rescuing someone
organised by the Kring Praktiserende Boomverzorgers (circle of practicing tree wardens) – Nederlandse afdeling van de International Society of Arboriculture (Dutch branch of the International Society of Arboriculture
ISA) – the participants were judged on various components
And the Waalre citizen showed himself the best of all his colleagues in this
At Landgoed (estate) Eikenburg in Eindhoven
he demonstrates how fast he can climb a tree
“Technique is at least as important as speed
that’s your starting position”
The trees at Eikenburg are just dwarfs by the way
compared to the giants Verbeek has conquered in
because you’re climbing into a living object
We are very conscious about what we do and through that you remove the risks for the most part”
Verbeek will travel to Slovakia at the end of June
to participate in the European Championships
because the winner gets to go to the World Championships in Atlanta
Dick Middelweerd (59) has been called the “sweetest chef” in the Netherlands
The chef and owner of star restaurant De Treeswijkhoeve in Waalre does not like to argue
He also thinks it bothers his staff the most when they make a mistake
I would prefer to comfort them then.” He told about it Wednesday night in the TV program ‘KRAAK vraagt door’ of Omroep Brabant
Middelweerd combines his gentleness with perfectionism and ambition
The proof that it works hangs at the front door of his restaurant: two Michelin stars
They have been hanging there for ten years now
He is proud of them and doesn’t find it at all strange for someone who
didn’t really feel at home in school and didn’t know what he wanted in life.”
He had this vague idea that he wanted to be a radio DJ
but a vocational choice test pointed toward the kitchen: cook or baker
“From day one I felt: this is it,” he said
That feeling became even stronger when he started working in a starred restaurant
“I loved the ambition and discovered how good food could be.”
Middelweerd’s life took on even more direction when he met his wife Anne-Laura
Dick and Anne-Laura took over the restaurant
The second in 2012 came oddly enough when Middelweerd took it a little easier after a mild heart attack
‘We’re going to work one day less,'” he says
But that actually gave room to further improve the restaurant
It’s a lesson the Waalre chef also used when the restaurant suffered severe damage in a kitchen fire a year and a half ago
“But we didn’t experience it that way.” His wait staff went on internships at other restaurants and came back with new insights
Middelweerd: “We got all the cookbooks out of the attic and started picking them out together.”
And that naturally leads to a frequently asked question: is a third star coming for the Treeswijkhoeve
“My life hasn’t failed if I don’t get it
but I always say: you have to strive for a third star
otherwise you’ll lose the second.”
He turns 60 this year and he’s looking backward a little more often
How will things continue at the Treeswijkhoeve
The answer to that question lies in Copenhagen
his son Mats (25) now works in a two-star restaurant

This is the first time in eighteen years that one can visit the light festival in various places in the region
“It’s a little farther from the rest
but it’s fun,” says a visitor in Geldrop
“That way you get to visit places for a change.”
the light festival would only spread its wings further into the region in the coming years
“If you would like to do something really fun
you go to a village at night with a group,” GLOW director Ronald Ramakers says
“There you take a hotel and the next evening you walk to the next village
Until you end up in downtown Eindhoven at the end.”

Ten to twenty asylum seekers volunteered to spend the night outside at the asylum application center in Ter Apel
They built a makeshift shelter with blankets and crush barriers
Dozens of other asylum seekers who could not be accommodated elsewhere slept on chairs in the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) waiting room and on mattresses in a sports hall
Waalre took in over 160 asylum seekers early on Tuesday evening to relieve the burden on the application center in Ter Apel
It mainly concerned families with children
The 164 asylum seekers were actually supposed to spend Wednesday night in Waalre
in the sports halls ‘t Hazzo and De Pracht
But the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) asked the municipality to take them in a day earlier
“The application center in Ter Apel is overflowing
Because we receive asylum seekers an evening earlier
there is more room in Ter Apel to receive other asylum seekers,” the municipality of Waalre said in a statement on Tuesday evening
Mayor Jan Boelhouwer asked locals for understanding
We are doing everything we can to ensure that the evening runs smoothly
and we sincerely hope for your understanding
The safety of our residents and asylum seekers comes first in this regard
The locations will be ready for the reception this evening
We are now working with all partners to be able to take in the asylum seekers.”
A spokesperson for the COA said on Tuesday evening that she expected the Ter Apel center could accommodate everyone who reports for the night from Tuesday to Wednesday
but also because we can use the crisis shelter in Standskanaal and Zuidbroek.” That turned out not to be the case
the registration center was also overcrowded
resulting in 128 people sleeping on chairs in the waiting rooms and 66 on mattresses in a sports hall
About 50 people also spent the night outside on a voluntary basis
The COA placed several awnings at the application center on Tuesday to protect people waiting in front of the center from the sun and other weather conditions
