DACHSER has opened a new warehouse at its Dutch site in Waddinxveen near Rotterdam
the new 6,900-square-meter storage facility increases the site’s capacity to 55,000 pallet spaces
This warehouse is DACHSER’s fourth building in the strategically favourable industrial area of Waddinxveen
It is opposite the warehouse for contract logistics
it is directly connected to the logistics provider’s distribution network
Transports depart daily from Waddinxveen to all parts of Europe
It also has large windows that let in plenty of daylight
Solar panels with a production capacity of 400 kW were installed on the roof
The two office areas are heated by a heat pump
both the offices and the three halls are fully equipped with LED lighting
“DACHSER opened its first branch in the west of the Netherlands in Waddinxveen in 2007
with just 3,000 square meters and 16 employees
nobody could have imagined that we would open our fourth logistics building here in 2024.”
The new warehouse will increase the total storage capacity in Waddinxveen to 55,000 pallet spaces
DACHSER can keep up with the increasing demand for storage space
“Our current customers know that DACHSER stands for stability and flexibility
and we want to maintain this in the future
we are equipped for further growth and can offer the service our customers expect from us,” says Edwin Vermeulen

DACHSER has opened a new Container Freight Station (CFS) at Waddinxveen
to serve as a single hub for export cargoes in the Less Than Container Load (LCL) sector
The logistics provider consolidates general cargo shipments from multiple European regions
and occasionally Austria and Eastern Europe
at its contract logistics warehouse in Waddinxveen
These shipments are then sent as bundled sea freight through the Port of Rotterdam
which serves as a key export gateway within DACHSER’s sea freight network
As one of the world’s largest seaports
the Port of Rotterdam offers regular connections to major international commercial centres
and provides competitive shipping transit times
it is linked to DACHSER’s European road transport network through the local DACHSER branch in Waddinxveen

said: “The close link between the location in Waddinxveen and our end-to-end European groupage network gives us the opportunity to centralise LCL consolidation there
We ship the bundled LCL consignments to destinations worldwide via the port of Rotterdam with its high frequency
“With the Port of Rotterdam as an export gateway
we can offer customers reliable and flexible logistics solutions on a global scale
added: “The Container Freight Station in Rotterdam is a strategic location for us for export LCL sea freight shipments from Europe to international markets
we are leveraging the strength of our European groupage network to offer reliable logistics solutions from Europe to the world.”

The Netherlands' population has grown by 1 million in the past eight years and will hit 18 million today. Municipalities in the Randstad accounted for most of that growth, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported
29 of the current 342 municipalities saw their populations shrink between 2016 and 2024
the four large cities gained the most new residents
Almere got the fifth most new residents at 28,400 people
Utrecht’s population grew the most of the four large cities
And Rotterdam grew the least (+6.4 percent)
The population grew relatively the fastest in municipalities around the large cities
“These municipalities generally grew mainly because more people move there than leave
but more children are also born than people die,” CBS said
“The large cities lost inhabitants because more people moved out of the city than moved in
but grew due to foreign migration and because more children were born than people died.”
Municipalities whose populations shrank are mainly located on the edges of the Netherlands
though some more centrally located municipalities were also affected
populations shrank the most in Eemsdelta (-2,000)
the number of residents decreased the most in Simpelveld (-4.5 percent)
These municipalities shrank because more people died than children were born
sometimes combined with more people moving away than moving there
The province with the strongest growth was Flevoland (11.6%)
followed by Zuid-Holland and Utrecht (both 6%)
533 people lived per square kilometer of land in the Netherlands on 1 January 2024
The Hague is the most densely populated city in the Netherlands with 6,868 residents per square kilometer
The top ten most densely populated municipalities are all in the Randstad
The northern provinces and some municipalities in Zeeland are less densely populated
The Wadden Islands are most sparsely populated
with fewer than 100 people per square kilometer

underpinned by permanent demographic and technological structural trends
the sector’s highly granular nature and high barriers to entry provide a compelling first mover opportunity as we look to replicate the scale we have achieved in the neighbouring markets of France and Germany.' Valor was advised by TLF

Looije Packing has been operational in Waddinxveen
"Our new way of working is slowly bearing fruit there
After three months of managing a very enthusiastic team in this state-of-the-art building
I can conclude that many processes are already running well
and we could almost immediately focus on the small improvements," Piet Looije says
"The challenge is to use the current team's know-how
and enthusiasm to transform the current working method into the Looije Packing model."
we're looking at the existing machinery and its availability at our other locations
use our machines optimally and serve customers from locations with an overarching perspective," explains Piet
"We're delighted that with this enthusiastic team and location
we can perform a wide range of repacking and packing activities in Waddinxveen too
Customers can have small quantities or complete shipments repacked or packed
We can do that for both conventional and organic products."
so we can handle our clients' import flows directly
We're generally convinced Waddinxveen is a great Looije Group addition for our customers
It offers them more flexibility and packaging options

The four are suspected of systematically undervaluing the goods and falsely declaring their origin
causing an estimated damage of approximately €7.2 million.
the Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD) of the Netherlands also carried out searches at the suspects’ homes and at four business premises in Andelst

2023 — Texo Trade Services (TTS) has opened a second site
3,000 square meters this additional warehouse will store 30 to 40 percent of its inventory
That is why TTS has broadened its partnership with Van Noort
the full-service logistics company in Waddinxveen
five kilometers from the 6,000-square-foot TTS headquarters and warehouse in Moordrecht
TTS will be using the additional warehouse for unloading containers
This expansion represents an almost doubling of the current warehousing capacity
saidi: “The key for our customers is that we offer constant quality
to ensure all this and our continued growth

our rapid growth means yet again that our premises are too small
to add another 3,000 square meters to our total capacity
TTS and Van Noort have been working together closely in areas of storage
transport and machinery relocations since 2015
Van Noort also took care of TTS’s 2019 move to its new site in Moordrecht
The partnership has now intensified with the addition of an extra storage site
noted: “Shortage of storage can hamper the growth of successful companies such as TTS
We are proud to be able to help TTS in setting up this second site
not only do they have the required storage capacity but their logistics and facilities are also in good hands
We are there when orders are delivered or picked up and TTS always has its specialist equipment at its disposal when it needs it
We look forward to the successful expansion of our partnership.”

The Modern Language Association has got you covered
The iconic MLA Handbook has added an entry for TikTok
who need to cite videos from the social media powerhouse
The template aligns with the basic order of elements that MLA devotees use for other types of media: author (usually the account name)
followed by title of the source element or a description of the material
“[I]f u like dark academia there’s a good chance you’ve seen my tumblr #darkacademia.” TikTok

“We answer questions that extend the guidelines in the MLA Handbook or that reflect trends in writers’ needs,” the organization’s editorial staff said in an email to Fast Company
“We do routinely get a lot of questions about citing the various social media platforms
and we saw that MLA Style Center posts on citing social media platforms are frequently read.”
along with the MLA Bible’s guideline fundamentals

“Our system of citation is based on a flexible template and not on publication formats
so it can evolve and grow as new forms of digital publication emerge,” the MLA editors told Fast Company
The MLA Handbook was first published in 1977
which debuted in 1951 in an effort to create uniformity among scholarly manuscripts
so other scholars can not just read the paper
That’s increasingly complicated in this digital time
because there’s so much more content out there
TikTok has reached a certain threshold of interest.”

Viva’s luxurious interiors were designed by Peter Marino and the exterior was curated by Azure Yacht Design
The interior is like that of a beach house
The owner envisioned the 94-meter mega yacht to have a lower environmental impact
and that this impact does not exceed that of the previous mega yacht
the owner had asked the designers for a minimalist design

The gospel according to Within Temptation’s Sharon den Adel
“We love all kinds of music in Within Temptation
Our heart and soul started with metal and rock
so the core of our band will always be that
And that has helped us also to develop throughout the years
It’s dependent on what was most inspirational from other scenes that we picked up at that moment and tried to combine with our music.
“I’m always thinking about what I put online
There’s a thin line of what you wanna show and what is too much
A lot of people are listening to you and following you on social media
so it’s worth thinking about what you put out there
I have my political views and stuff like that
but there’s also the question of what is your purpose in that; if you really want to express that much
It depends who’s on the other side and how they react to everything
I like to talk to people and see how they think
and I learn the most from people who think differently than I do.”
we were very much inspired by them because of the way they were using loops
we were inspired by the 80s – bands we grew up with
Iron Maiden… you can really hear the influences on certain songs
In In The Middle Of The Night the rhythm is very ‘galloping’
that’s a big wink to our favourite bands.”
and one person was really going into his head
It’s so nice how you can see that people can interpret one song in a different way
I like to look at people in the face when I’m singing
I’m onstage to get that connection.”
‘I don’t wanna play that song because every time I sing it
It’s not something I want to show people
and there’s a lot of respect coming from them at that time
and nobody really knows what to do about it
The thing I realise more and more is that we are all into this together
eventually we won’t get to the goal that we all really need to get to
otherwise it’s gonna be really hard for certain countries
and in some parts of the globe there are gonna be islands that will be gone because the sea levels are rising
but the rapid way that it’s going is scaring me
I’ve always been very sensitive to those kinds of things
I never thought it would become a problem so soon that my kids might experience it.”
Sign up below to get the latest from Metal Hammer
who invented a way to clean out the plastic in the ocean
‘Why didn’t anyone else think of this
It’s a very easy solution!’ Because of all the media worldwide
he’s being hired by other countries to do the same thing
and it’s something that I think is very positive
I think there should be more positive news
and then people will get more positive about the future and start thinking of solutions
everything is doomed.’ Everything is fucked
“I didn’t really get that much
I think the lack of advice did get us into trouble
because nobody knew anything about the music industry
We just thought it was a hobby and we were being paid.”
I think it’s the most important thing
Otherwise you’ll always be in your own little world and come up with the same kind of things you’ve already done
I have actually worked with a British guy for the lyrics
“It’s also why I wanna go home after a certain degree of time
but when I’m home… it’s like the world is upside down
and I have to get back into the rhythm of another kind of life
“Worrying about what other people think
Most people aren’t concerned about you
Most people live in their own little bubble
but people always think they have to keep up appearances because a lot of other people might think [something negative]
but most of the time you can’t influence them.”
and they were the first band I really fell in love with
I never saw them live – I was supposed to go and see them at the Melkweg in Amsterdam
but my parents didn’t allow me to go
and it doesn’t sound that ‘good’
It has a rawness. They just translated the emotion of a certain part of the youth at that time
They could do nothing wrong in my eyes.”
‘Oh my god!’ Oh my god!’”

Eosta (Nature and More) has permanently relocated to a new and sustainable business property in Waddinxveen
which consists of a head office and distribution centre
With its numerous sustainable and circular properties and spacious set-up
the CSR leader has realised a workplace that 'throws the door wide open to the up-and-coming new economy'
Preparations for the design and construction of a new building commenced a few years ago
'The resulting building exudes warmth and humanity and may be considered the physical expression of the company’s core values of authenticity
togetherness and social responsibility,' said Volkert Engelsman
'The interior design is organically conformed to the company processes and encourages leadership and self-leadership
co-creation and an innovative and sustainable corporate performance
The building has many circular and sustainable characteristics
Both the shell and design have a materials passport
which states the materials used to ensure they can be reused as much as possible after demolition
The roof of the distribution and packaging halls will be completely covered with solar panels
and rainwater will be collected and used for local horticultural irrigation. The timber in the office is sustainable Dutch elm; the modular walls and insulating material in the partitions are circular; one of the stone walls is made from recycled construction rubble and toilet bowls; the office chairs are made from recycled plastic
A 'natural paradise' around and on the building is under construction
Primever Holland is set to expand its logistics services in combination with its depot in Belgium
and Venlo for deliveries across almost all of France on an A-to-B basis," says Henk van Berkel
"We launched Primever in 2023 on a small scale in Poeldijk
Through our collaboration with Hannon Logistics
we had the opportunity to establish a cross-dock location in Westland
We started with just two people and soon added a third for pallet cross-docking
we laid the foundation with three former Mooy Logistics employees," Henk explains
trucks depart daily to our branches in Arras
and Plan d'Orgon to deliver groupage goods throughout France
The organization has since grown to eight employees at the Poeldijk location
and we are now ready for the new season with an expansion of our services."
we will expand our services to cover nearly all of France on an A-to-B basis: load today
unload tomorrow in 95% of destinations in France
This concept is similar to what Mooy Logistics previously established here
although that was at a very different time
While the process has been structured differently
the goal remains the same—to ensure timely delivery to customers
The Primever Group has grown to become the market leader in groupage transport for fruit and vegetables in France
Primever has an extensive network that makes this service possible," says Henk
"A key component in offering these services from the Netherlands is Primever Belgium's location in Courcelles
This site enables efficient grouping and execution of transport lines
Primever has been active in Belgium for years through its Transport Guidez site in northern France
the Primever Belgium site in Courcelles has been added," the logistics provider explains
"This branch also allows services to be offered from the southern Netherlands without first transporting volumes to Westland
services from the southern Netherlands will initially be launched from the Venlo
transporting goods efficiently to France via Courcelles is entirely feasible
but requests from these areas can already be accommodated."
"Venlo is a key region for fruit and vegetable logistics
and customers have frequently inquired about trading with France from this location
there was no direct connection to large parts of France
That is precisely the gap we aim to fill with this new service
We will promote the new line at the trade fair in Berlin and hope for significant interest in the opportunities it presents
I would almost say the possibilities are endless—but of course
with deliveries to the Corbas market serving as a great example," Henk proudly concludes

state-of-the-art head office and warehouse at the Logistiekpark A12 in Waddinxveen
A grand opening was not possible due to the Corona situation
but AGF.nl has been able to take a look at the new building of the family business that has been active in the packaging industry for generations
The great-grandfather of CEO Lucas Lammers started the company in 1923
reconditioning and distribution of (second-hand) jute bags
The company is now specialized in FIBCs (big bags)
jute and WPP packaging for the fruit and vegetable sector and industry
The new building is 16 meters high and has a total area of 12,500 m2 of warehouse and 3,000 m2 of office space
The warehouse in phase 1 has a capacity of 29,000 fully loaded pallet places with an additional hall for printing jute and plastic bags
Sustainability and well-being were keywords during the construction
according to Nick Jansen (Director Europe)
enough to provide 386 households with energy for a year
and rainwater is collected and used by growers in the area
we are one of the most sustainable buildings in the Netherlands
but above all we want it to be a pleasant place to meet
By working together you promote cooperation between the different departments
but we believe in coming together at the office
We do everything we can to ensure that colleagues work together in the most pleasant way in a fantastic workplace that is fully equipped and we want to be a knowledge center for each other and our customers
We are happy to include them both in the process and also believe that this is the future."
The new building is therefore fully equipped with a real auditorium
a gym where colleagues can exercise under the supervision of a personal trainer
a spacious canteen where a fresh lunch is provided on several days
consultation rooms and spaciously arranged desks with videophone
About 100 people work at the head office in Waddinxveen
the fifty colleagues of LC Netherlands are active
worth around about 50 million of the total 200 million turnover
whilst working on the top floor are the colleagues of LC International
the umbrella organisation that oversees the entire supply chain of the LC Packaging Group and maintains contact with all LC Packaging affiliates in Africa
Anyone who thinks it will stop here is wrong
because LC Packaging has its own offices in Belgium
"And these are not sales offices with two people
but all decent offices with their own storage
Thanks to our SAP system we have a real-time view of the stock and we see all purchase and sales orders of the entire group," says Boudewijn van Fraassen
production facilities and warehouses in 16 countries in Europe
Africa and Asia with more than 1,700 employees
we are always close by and there is always a location nearby
Thanks to our storage capacity of over 70,000 m² and an extensive distribution network
even during seasonal peaks and for short-term deliveries," continues Boudewijn
With three offices in the United Kingdom and two offices in Ireland
Brexit has not caused major problems for the packaging supplier
LC Packaging prefers to grow in depth rather than in width
We are already active in a considerable number of sectors and that requires a gigantic stock and storage
we sometimes have twice the turnover of a year on belt bales
But should an onion sorter suddenly demand from Central America or Asia
We therefore look for our growth mainly within the existing markets
We find it more important to be a top-3 player anyway and prefer to be the market leader in the markets in which we operate than do it as a little bit on the side."
The international office network came at the right time last Corona year
"The demand for our packaging rose very fast
We drove like crazy between the different branches to meet the demand of our customers
It has been quite stressful getting that done
partly because we keep such an almost irresponsibly high stock for our customers," says Nick Jansen
the price of polypropylene (PP) granulate has increased by 40% in one month
I have never experienced that in the 25 years that I have been working for LC Packaging
The scarcity of jute and paper is alarming
It means you have to talk to your customers about the current contracts
because the customer has to get their packaging regardless."
"What does help in this is that we often work on the basis of long-term partnerships
Ten years ago we were much more active on a day-trade basis
Now we can guarantee many more long-term products to our partners
Thanks to the combination of our own factories and the semi-in-house production with partners
some of whom we have been working with for thirty years
we can guarantee quality and availability," says Boudewijn
He does not see producers from the Far East who try to set foot in Europe themselves as competition
but experience shows that these companies can never last in the long term
We believe that quality is much more than just the strength of our packaging
If you have nothing more than your packaging to offer
LC Packaging already has a textbook example of compostable packaging
because it wants to keep its focus on customers in the food & agri and industry
Sustainability is front of mind at the packaging company
we have an alliance with Veolia to limit waste from flexible packaging worldwide
Recycled polypropylene (tPP) is also a hot item
This is already being tested by British customers
We are working hard on this and it is quite a challenge to achieve 30% rPP in a packaging of say 100 grams
but we are happy to take on that challenge," Nick concludes

The Court of Appeals for Arnhem-Leeuwarden acquitted Sanil B
of manslaughter in the death of Carlo Heuvelman on the Spanish island of Mallorca in 2021
There is too little legal evidence to prove that Sanil B
was involved in the Waddinxveen man’s death
That means that no one has been convicted for Heuvelman's death
The court did convict the group of men from Hilversum of nightlife violence on the island during the early hours of 14 July 2021
The court called the manslaughter acquittal very disappointing for the victim’s loved ones
a trace of Heuvelman’s DNA found on Sanil B.’s shoe combined with witness statements is not sufficient to conclude without doubt what happened
A total of seven suspects from Hilversum were involved in the case stemming from a vicious assault on Carlo Heuvelman during a night out on the Spanish island of Mallorca
The 27-year-old from Waddinxveen died from brain injuries suffered in the beating early on July 14
Heuvelman was jumped on the boulevard near the El Arenal seaside resort
Heuvelman suffered the worst injuries by far
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) recommended the suspects be convicted during the appellate court hearing
The OM said prison sentences of up to ten years were appropriate
is facing the highest sentence for one charge of manslaughter and two counts of attempted manslaughter
He is the only one of the former group of friends who is still incarcerated
Forensic investigators said trace evidence found on the suspect’s shoe matched the victim’s DNA
was believed to have kicked or stomped Heuvelman during the attack
“I have had zero-point-zero to do with Carlo’s death,” he said
he was convicted by the lower court in 2022 and sentenced to seven years in prison
the OM also recommended a ten-year sentence
killed Heuvelman “with one or more others,” but said the OM did not convincingly prove who was involved
but they were sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for their involvement in other fights
the OM presented a different argument and said prosecutors no longer hold them responsible for Heuvelman’s death
Hein and Mees do not fit the description from the most important eyewitness
is guilty of public violence and an attempted serious assault on Heuvelman’s friend
The OM sought a lower sentence this time around
of which 350 days may be conditionally suspended
(20) heard a sentence recommendation of 1.5 years in prison
He was accused of public violence and the attempted manslaughter of one of Heuvelman’s friends
The Dutch population grew almost twice as fast in 2022 as a year earlier
Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports based on figures up to December 1 and an estimate from the last month
There was an increase of 227,000 inhabitants
the number of inhabitants in the Netherlands stands at 17.8 million
a reduction of over 11,000 from 2021 figures
birth and death rates have remained about the same
so that population growth can be fully attributed to foreign immigration
A relatively high number of immigrants were registered last year
when about 402,000 people moved to the Netherlands
In every municipality the number of immigrants was higher than the number of emigrants
The larger cities in the Netherlands grew the fastest
Eindhoven and Almere had the strongest growth with 22 new people per thousand inhabitants
only Rotterdam and Breda were slightly below the national average
The data does show that more people emigrated out of the Netherlands than moved to the Netherlands in the major cities
Seven municipalities showed a per capita increase above 30 new inhabitants per thousand
where the national average was 13 per thousand
The seven municipalities include the Noordoostpolder
Woudenberg and the islands of Vlieland and Schiermonnikoog
The number of inhabitants decreased in only nine of the 344 municipalities
These municipalities were mainly located at the perimeter of the Netherlands
or at the borders with Belgium and Germany
About 100,000 of the immigrants arrived from Ukraine after the Russian invasion in February
Some 89,000 of them have registered with a Dutch municipality since February
Many Ukrainians have also left the Netherlands
the most immigrants who settled in the Netherlands arrived from Syria
many municipalities would have experienced a contraction: 62 percent of them had a mortality rate that was higher than the birth rate
and the number has risen sharply in twenty years
just 13 municipalities reported a death rate that outpaced new births
the number of municipalities has also decreased
The municipalities where more babies are born than people die are mainly in Flevoland
Flevoland is the province where the population is growing the fastest
The growth in Flevoland was 22 new people per thousand inhabitants
In Noord-Holland it was sixteen per thousand inhabitants and in Zuid-Holland and Utrecht it was thirteen per thousand inhabitants
the population grew because more people were born than died
there were more people who moved away from these provinces to other parts of the Netherlands
The difference between Zuid-Holland and Utrecht and the other provinces is not significant
Zeeland was at twelve new people per thousand inhabitants
Friesland and Drenthe closed the list with nine new residents per thousand inhabitants
All municipalities in the region close to Rotterdam The Hague Airport are against an increase in flight movements for the airport. The airport has outlined several possibilities for growth, but the municipalities fear more nuisance for their residents, Omroep West reports
Rotterdam The Hague Airport needs a new permit on 1 January 2025
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management will decide on it
the airport published its plans for the coming years
including several possibilities for allowing more flight movements
Various municipalities are critical of the airport’s proposals
They’re particularly critical of the fact that the plans only include possibilities for growth
“From considerations of nuisance experienced and climate protection
growth should not be regarded as a fixed wish,” the municipalities of Zuidplas
and Krimpenerwaard wrote in a joint statement
The municipality of Midden-Delfland doesn’t want gains made from quieter and more sustainable aircraft to automatically go to more flights at Rotterdam The Hague Airport
At least some of that should go to local residents
“Where can they still go for peace and space if more and more planes fly over the area?”
Politicians in the municipalities of The Hague and Zuidplas aren’t outright against growth but would also like to see the possibility of fewer flights considered
The VVD in Zuidplas stressed that the primary goal should be to limit noise and nuisance
regardless of whether the airport grows or shrinks
Argentina confirmed on Saturday two new cases of bird flu detected in wild birds
three days after reporting the first findings of the disease in the South American region
"We have detected a second case in two wild ducks found dead in the province of Cordoba," the Argentine National Service of Health and Agrifood Quality (SENASA) of the southern country said on Twitter
along with Uruguay - two important international agricultural producers - this week declared a state of sanitary emergency due to the first cases reported last Wednesday
Officials in both countries said they reinforced controls at borders and internally as a result of the ongoing problem
which has reached new corners of the globe
has become endemic for the first time in some wild birds that transmit the virus to poultry
The virus has spurred import bans in some countries and pushed egg prices to record highs in some parts of the world
have already found cases of bird flu in their territory
One of the country's leading wildlife veterinary experts warns a heavy-handed response may be needed to limit damage if a particularly infectious strain of bird flu reaches our shores
Some 5000 wild cranes have died and hundreds of thousands of chickens and turkeys are being culled
Russia has reported the first case of a bird flu strain
The appeal on the fatal assault of Carlo Heuvelman from Waddinxveen in Mallorca in 2021 started in the court in Leeuwarden on Tuesday
Seven young men are back in court over the nightlife violence on the Spanish island
The court set 11 days aside for the appeal and expects to rule on March 14
Carlo Heuvelman (27) was assaulted on the boulevard of El Arenal during the early hours of July 14, 2021. He died in the hospital four days later
A lot of what happened remained unclear when this case was first tried
What is clear is that the suspects are a group of friends from Hilversum who were celebrating the end of their school year in Mallorca
they clashed with another group of Dutch tourists in a club
ending with Heuvelman unconscious on the ground
Because the victim and perpetrators were all Dutch and the suspects had already fled back to the Netherlands
the Spanish police handed the investigation over to the Dutch authorities
Eight of them were ultimately convicted for the violence on the island that culminated in Heuvelman’s death
(21) was convicted of manslaughter based on Heuvelman’s DNA found on his shoe
The court sentenced him to seven years in prison
Four other suspects got 2.5 years in prison
and two others 1 and 1.5 years for assault and attempted manslaughter
The trial did not reveal who was responsible for Heuvelman’s death
and no useful camera footage was found of the fatal blows
Sanil B. has “good hope” that the appeal will turn out better for him, his lawyer Peter Plasman told NH Nieuws
The young man still denies having anything to do with Heuvelman’s death
The court set 11 days aside for the appeal
The frequency of car break-ins significantly increases in November in the Netherlands. Research by Independer based on police data shows that over the past three years
the number of car burglaries in November was on average 20 percent higher than the annual average
The figure also revealed disparities among municipalities
In November, cars are broken into much more often. Over the past three years, the number of car break-ins in November was even on average 20 percent higher than the annual average, according to research by Independer based on police data
marking an increase of 715 incidents compared to the same period last year
The number of car burglaries is expected to rise significantly
as November typically sees the highest frequency of such incidents
the number of car burglaries in November has been
“The number of burglaries starts to rise in the autumn and the peak occurs in November,” explained Independent car insurance expert Menno Dijcks
there are significant difference in car break-ins rates across the Netherlands
the number of car burglaries has more than doubled compared to the same period last year
the risk of car burglary is higher than in any other Dutch municipality
there are roughly 21.6 car burglaries per 1,000 cars in the capital
a rate about 5.5 times higher than the national average in the Netherlands
The 25 Dutch security regions must each prepare to take in 2,000 asylum seekers from Ukraine
the security regions must be ready to take in at least a thousand people each
Shelters must be designated within five days
the Ministry of Justice and Security decided in consultation with the Security Council
The Netherlands is preparing for the arrival of many asylum seekers fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine
the United Nations refugee agency UNCHR estimated that over a million Ukrainians had already been displaced
And that number increases sharply every day
Amsterdam has space available for 80 people in hostels
a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military and is responsible for border security
has been referring Ukrainian asylum seekers they encounter at the border or airports to these locations
Waddinxveen also opened a shelter for 50 people on Thursday
The Rotterdam-Rijnmond Security Region is preparing 2,000 places
The municipality of Rotterdam hired two river cruise ships where about a thousand asylum seekers can stay
Due to the association agreement concluded between the EU and Ukraine in 2017
Ukrainians can stay in the Netherlands for a period visa-free
but the Cabinet plans to extend it to up to two years
depending on how the Russian invasion develops
Because Ukrainians can stay in the Netherlands without a visa for a while, they do not immediately have to apply for asylum
the Ministry of Justice and Security asked municipalities not to refer Ukrainian asylum seekers to the asylum center in Ter Apel - where all new asylum seekers have to file their first request - but to arrange shelter for them themselves
