Back to newsAnalysis: Wayne Barrett weighs in on Schilling vs WilnisNewsOct 7, 2015Joe ‘Stitch Em Up’ Schilling (19-6, 11 KO’s) and Jason ‘Psycho’ Wilnis (25-5-1, 7 KO’s) are on collision course in the main event of this Friday’s GLORY 24 DENVER card live on Spike TV.
Schilling is already in line for a middleweight title shot and was supposed to be facing Russian champion Artem ‘The Lion’ Levin on Friday in a trilogy rubber-match. Levin withdrew because of injury and that led Wilnis to step in on short notice with the chance to steal Schilling’s contender status.
New York middleweight Wayne Barrett is also on this Friday’s card, facing Dustin Jacoby in the co-headline fight. He has fought Schilling (1-1 against each other) and Wilnis (0-1), so knows both fighters quite well, which makes him perfectly placed to offer some well-informed opinion on the match.
“Anything can happen. Knowing Joe, he’s a smart dude, I think there will be things he has seen, holes in Wilnis’ game,” he says.
“If you look at the third round of my fight with Wilnis you can see he has a problem with knees to the body, people will pick up on that. I knew that before I fought him and I don’t know why I waited to the third round to use it.
“He holds his guard so close and tight to his body that he can’t really defend against knees. I think Joe knows that and he has got some solid knees, he dropped me with one at Madison Square Garden. I think Joe will play at distance and use knees when Wilnis tries to close distance.
“But if Joe is lazy or sloppy Wilnis can chop those legs up. I think he is more powerful than Joe is expecting. But overall I think Joe’s movement will be too much for him, I expect him to control the fight and stop Wilnis closing the distance.”
GLORY 24 DENVER takes place this Friday at the Magness Arena, Denver, Colorado and airs live in the US on Spike TV at 11pm ET/9pm MT.
The card also features a four-man Heavyweight Contender tournament with Benjamin Adegbuyi, Ben Edwards, Jahfarr Wilnis and Mladen Brestovac battling it out for the chance to challenge Rico Verhoeven for his World Heavyweight Championship at GLORY 26 AMSTERDAM on December.

2015Schilling secures title shot with win over WilnisJoe ‘Stitch Em Up’ Schilling and Jason Wilnis went to war in the main event of GLORY 24 DENVER
Jason Wilnis is the latest kickboxer entering MMA who has history with UFC champion Israel Adesanya
Wilnis beat Adesanya in a somewhat controversial unanimous decision at GLORY 37 in January 2017
defending his 187-pound title in the process
It was Adesanya's second-to-last kickboxing fight
and shortly thereafter he committed full time to MMA
rising the ranks to conquer the UFC's middleweight division
Wilnis has been training MMA behind closed doors
His kickboxing record may have suffered as consequence – as he's lost five of six since beating Adesanya – but it's all built toward an MMA debut of his own
On Sunday it will happen when Wilnis clashes with Erhan Okuroglu in the main event of Levels Fight League 2, which takes place in Amsterdam and streams on the promotion's website as well as FITEtv
"My MMA debut is a long time coming," Wilnis told MMA Junkie
"I tried to switch from kickboxing to MMA about four or five years ago and I was training a lot in wrestling and grappling but my coaches at the time didn’t feel it was the right time
"I feel like kickboxing has become very limited for me and very one-dimensional
and I want to get the best out of me and my career and challenge myself."
LFA 95 highlights: Alex Pereira puts middleweight division on notice with crushing knockout
Video: Alex Pereira, only man to finish Israel Adesanya, delivers terrifying knockout at LFA 95
The 30-year-old Dutch fighter seemingly has the tools and dedication to thrive in MMA
He hopes for a smooth debut in his new sport
and after gaining some experience has his sights set on the bigger promotions
The fact he holds a win over Adesanya is sure to bring added attention
"My goal in MMA is to give everything in Levels Fight League and grow as an MMA fighter and then get to the UFC or Bellator," Wilnis said
"I am coming into the sport with a win over the current UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya which is good to have for me no doubt
I’m just excited to enter the sport and move onto the next stage of my career."
It's hard not to see the past connection between Wilnis and Adesanya and not wonder about a potential rematch in MMA
but Wilnis' goal is to find the type of success Adesanya has discovered in MMA after switching over
He can't deny it would be a great story if he could position himself to make the fight happen
but Wilnis said he's not fixated on it and is focused on creating his own career
"I’ve seen his rise through the UFC and I would be lying if I didn’t say that was somewhat of a motivation for me," Wilnis said
"But my thoughts on MMA started before him
and I would not say fighting him is a particular goal of mine
Photos: Israel Adesanya through the years
Jason Wilnis will never pretend he’s the best trash talker – he only asks people to look at his resume now that he’s fighting in MMA
The 31-year-old former GLORY middleweight kickboxing champion is a rare breed because he holds wins over two of the best kickboxers in MMA: UFC champion Israel Adesanya and top prospect Alex Pereira
As he prepares for his third MMA fight at KSW 70
Wilnis understands he’s not going to fight either one of them in the immediate future
But he does predict they will again cross paths
“Everybody can say what they want,” Wilnis told MMA Fighting. “I’m not a big talker, but I have two wins over Pereira, he has one win over me. I have one win over Adesanya. I even have a win over Joe Schilling
I can do a lot more than I do in kickboxing
and I can’t wait to rematch these guys again and show them my skills
Wilnis has amassed a 2-0 record with one knockout
facing fellow undefeated prospect Radosław Paczuski
Wilnis isn’t looking to follow in the footsteps of Adesanya or Pereira
but he knows the comparisons are tough to ignore given the success they’ve both found in a relatively short time since making the full-time transition to MMA
“We have a lot of kickboxing experience,” Wilnis explained
but maybe we can see each other in the UFC later
Different paths but somewhere the same goal.”
While kickboxers have been fighting in MMA for decades at this point
Wilnis feels like he has a better understanding of what’s expected if he hopes to find success long term
Because he has a reputation for his ferocious striking style
the man nicknamed “Psycho” has worked diligently to add all of the other parts to his game that will allow him to face off with any style of opponent without panicking that he’ll almost certainly be fighting off takedowns
Despite what might be perceived as deficiencies when he first started
Wilnis found himself enjoying MMA more than he ever imagined
I like this way of fighting more than kickboxing.”
With plans to eventually face Adesanya again in the future
Wilnis compliments “The Last Stylebender” for the way he’s adapted his striking style to fit MMA as he’s become one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport
Wilnis believes he has those same abilities
“This type of style is different than kickboxing,” he said
they’re good kickboxers but they come into MMA and their stance is different
and his movements are more efficient in MMA than kickboxing
I have some good experience for this third fight and I’m a lot more confident.”
Combat Press is taking a look back at the best that the sport of kickboxing had to offer
Combat Press will announce its award winners in multiple categories
covering everything from the action in the ring to the biggest stories surrounding the sport
There is one award that always gives us trouble each and every year because of the sheer number of candidates in contention
The “Knockout of the Year” is not only one of the most important awards
but also one of the most sought after by the fans
It seems like every year there is a list of more than a hundred candidates
The knockouts with the most spectacular ending are always in the running
These knockouts come by way of a jumping knee
like the one Rukiya landed a few years ago
The technical skill or athletic ability to pull off some of these exciting maneuvers causes them to float near the top of the list
no matter the level at which the knockout happened
such as Tenshin Nasukawa’s cartwheel kick
or Riamu’s spinning back kick in the final month of the year
Then there are the knockouts that happen at the highest level
These finishes happen during a fight for a major title
or on a major event that has an extra dramatic feeling in the air
The candidates of that nature from 2019 include Marat Grigorian’s fifth-round knockout against Elvis Gashi that ended his American opponent’s undefeated record
Alex Pereira’s faceplant knockout against Donegi Abena to become the first simultaneous two-division champion in GLORY
and Giorgio Petrosyan’s brutal one-punch knockout against Jo Nattawut to move into the finals of the ONE Super Series world grand prix
There is one candidate on this list that features both the high-flying
flashy technique and the meaningful stakes at the top of the sport
One of the world’s best fighters and one of our “Fighter of the Year” candidates
had one of the best years of his career in 2019
He scored three “Knockout of the Year” contenders during his run
but none was bigger than his first of the year
when Pereira put his middleweight title on the line against former GLORY champion Jason Wilnis
Wilnis had words to say about Pereira’s abilities as a kickboxer when he called out the Brazilian titleholder as a pure boxer who only competes under kickboxing rules
but doesn’t display the entire skill set
Pereira would make Wilnis eat those words with his feet and knee
Pereira started off his destruction by slipping in a perfectly timed right high kick that dropped Wilnis just over one minute into the first round
The champion snuck his foot just inside of Wilnis’s left hand to smack him across the jaw and ear with maybe one or two inches of space between a knockdown and a fully blocked kick
The speed and snapping nature of the kick was just enough to squeak through and start off the beginning of the end
Wilnis walked toward his opponent while Pereira came crashing across the ring from the ropes
Wilnis was expecting the step right knee from Pereira
Pereira used it as bait to throw his left knee after switching mid-air to score the final knockdown and our 2019 “Knockout of the Year.”

Back to newsRigters vs. Wilnis added to GLORY 92AnnouncementApr 11, 2024Rigters vs. Wilnis added to GLORY 92Following his heroics at the GLORY Heavyweight Grand Prix, Levi Rigters (17-2, 8 KO) has been given his next assignment. The number one ranked heavyweight will face a veteran of the GLORY ring, Jahfarr Wilnis (33-14-1, 8 KO), in the co-main event of GLORY 92 on May 18 at the RTM Stage in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Rigters had an incredible breakthrough night at the Grand Prix in March showing great heart and determination to reach the final. The 28-year-old overcame adversity in his opening two bouts, being knocked down twice, before facing the ‘King of Kickboxing’ Rico Verhoeven in the final.
Bruised and battered from his two previous bouts, Rigters almost pulled off the unthinkable, landing a crazy spinning backfist to send Verhoeven to the canvas. The champion got back up and ended winning the bout by TKO after a four-knockdown rule. He may not have won the tournament, but Rigters won the admiration of fans around the world.
Now he aims to rebound against a hardened vet of Dutch kickboxing from a legendary family in Jahfarr Wilnis. The older brother of former middleweight champion Jason, the 38-year-old is focused on disrupting Rigters’ plans in order to write the perfect ending to his lengthy career.
Fighting in GLORY since almost the beginning, Wilnis is the longest active heavyweight competing today and has fought seventeen times in the GLORY ring, took part in five one-night tournaments, has victories over the likes of Jamal Ben Saddik, Hesdy Gerges, Brice Guidon, & Tomas Mozny, but has never fought for the title.
Now, almost twelve years after making his debut, he has a chance to catapult himself to the top of the rankings and throw his name into the hat for title contention with a victory over Levi Rigters.
Tickets for GLORY 92 are available for purchase right now.
Fans in the Netherlands can watch all the action live exclusively on Videoland. GLORY 92 is available in North America on Bally Live & Stadium and on DAZN in France & Belgium.

Former GLORY kickboxing world champion Jason “Psycho” Wilnis will be making the move to mixed martial arts after inking a deal with Netherlands based promotion Levels Fight League
During his kickboxing career, Wilnis faced a who’s who list of top fighters and he holds wins over notable names such as UFC middleweight king Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira and Joe Schilling
The victory over “The Last Stylebender” came by unanimous decision back in 2017 in one of Adesanya’s final kickboxing bouts before making the full time move to MMA
Now Wilnis will follow Adesanya into MMA where he hopes to make an immediate impact with Levels Fight League with his debut fight expected to be announced in the coming days
I’ve done kickboxing for years and achieved a lot
Now it’s time to hit them with the smaller gloves,” Wilnis said in a statement to MMA Fighting
“The MMA ruleset is what is attracting me to the sport
In kickboxing you are limited and MMA is an extension and allows you to go further
The fanbase for MMA is also larger than kickboxing and I want to bring my skills to entertain a new & bigger audience
“LFL is the perfect event for me to be introduced to the sport
They are doing great things for MMA in the Netherlands and I am happy to make my debut on their event
I’ve been planning this move for a while now and working with my coach Fikri Tijarti
working with different bodies in gyms in Utrecht and Rotterdam all throughout lockdown preparing for this move to MMA
has been a professional fighter for the past 12 years so he has plenty of experience as he makes the move into MMA
Levels Fight League is a new promotion that launched just recently with their first card featuring a number of memorable finishes including Robert Valentin surviving a crazy slam to earn a submission victory in the main event
Back to newsJason 'Psycho' Wilnis is the new middleweight champion of the worldNewsSep 9, 2016This fight had the makings of a war from the moment it was announced. Wilnis and Marcus had met once before, in the final of the GLORY 20 DUBAI tournament, with Marcus taking a decision win. Ever since then, some bitterness has bubbled away between the two.
Marcus went on to win the title at GLORY 27 CHICAGO, former champion Artem Levin forfeiting the belt when he walked out of the ring in frustration. Marcus said he took “great satisfaction in making Levin break mentally”. Wilnis disagreed, saying Marcus “got the belt for free”.
The comment rankled with Marcus and he fired back, calling Wilnis “a B-level fighter” and saying his comments were “loser talk”. The back and forth continued all through the build-up to tonight's fight, with both promising to teach the other a lesson on fight night.
Things took very little time to heat up. The feeling-out process lasted about four seconds before they both clicked into top gear and began blasting each other with huge power shots. Bombs were traded back and forth relentlessly and it quickly became obvious that the fight would not be going the distance.
Marcus looked like the aggressor because he kept pressing forwards with right hands, left hooks and knee strikes to the midsection. Wilnis was happy with that though, as it was making Marcus' defense porous and allowing him to plow big punches of his own through on the counter-attack.
Countering is something Wilnis does very well. His leg kick flies out in response to almost any attack that comes anywhere near to touching him. According to FightMetric statistics he is one of the most effective leg-kickers in GLORY, throwing high volume and landing somewhere around 80% of them.
Leg kicks are a long-term strategy though, usually paying off towards the latter end of a fight when the opponent's leg can no longer take a hammering. Tonight's fight would be decided in more immediate fashion when Marcus' relentless attacking turned his defense from porous to almost non-existent, abandoned in favor of all-out attack.
Wilnis was able to first of all rock him, then turn the tables and back him up. Towards the end of the second round he had Marcus backed into a corner under heavy fire. A right hand landed flush on Marcus' jaw and he began showboating in response, rocking his head around wildly as if mocking Wilnis. But the referee saw something and jumped in to administer a count. The crowd questioned this move audibly but Marcus notably did not protest it.
In the third round Wilnis picked up where he left off, hitting Marcus with everything but the kitchen sink. Strategy went completely out of the window for Marcus as pride took over. He was determined to make a display of being unaffected and unafraid and that led him to marching forwards with his hands by his waist and winging bombs from there.
It was a mistake. Wilnis dropped him for his second count of the fight. Marcus jumped back to his feet and took an eight count. Instead of playing it safe he went right back to marching at Wilnis and into a heavy exchange. This time he was sent staggering across the ring and almost skidded out from under the bottom rope, leading to his second count of the round.
Back on his feet once more, pride completely took over for Marcus. He was seeing red and went charging at Wilnis. The result was inevitable – Wilnis was waiting for him and delivered the final blows which would put Marcus down, end the fight and take the belt from around his waist. The referee stepped in to wave the fight off under the three knockdown rule and Jason Wilnis became GLORY middleweight champion of the world one minute and fourteen seconds into the third round of the fight.

Back to newsMarcus recovers middleweight title from WilnisNewsApr 29, 2017To say there is no love lost between Simon Marcus and Jason Wilnis would be an understatement. The two top middleweights nearly had their fight at the GLORY 40 COPENHAGEN weigh-ins, when they came face to face for the first time since their GLORY 33 NEW JERSEY match in September last year.
That last fight ended in the third round with Marcus on the canvas and the referee waving the fight off under the 'three knockdown' rule which governs GLORY fights and provides that a fight be ended if a participant suffers three knockdowns in a single round.
It was a galling, humiliating end to a fight for a championship-level athlete like Marcus, but in part he did it to himself with his insistence on arrogantly showboating in front of Wilnis, putting his hands down and his chin on offer. Wilnis accepted that offer and took him out, taking the belt from him in the process.
Wilnis debuted at GLORY 10 LOS ANGELES in an eight-man middleweight tournament and found himself eliminated by Artem Levin in the quarter-finals. There is no shame in that loss, but neither did it offer any clue as to what he would develop into later in his career. Mixed results came his way until GLORY 28 PARIS, when he came out the right side of a war with Filip Verlinden.
It was around then that a switch seemed to flip in his head. He surged with confidence instead of self-doubt and that was rewarded by a run of victories which culminated in his taking the belt from Marcus in New Jersey last fall. Over that same period Wilnis' game elevated to a new level and he evolved into the ferocious power puncher who, until tonight, ruled the middleweight roost.
Marcus is notoriously macho and more than a little stubborn, traits which would suggest he would not learn the lessons of that loss to Wilnis. But he is also not stupid; he knew he would have to make adjustments and approach Wilnis with more respect than he treated him with six months ago.
And so instead of charging forwards recklessly in this GLORY 40 rematch, Marcus fought most of the fight moving backwards, allowing Wilnis to move forwards relentlessly as he does. Instead of trying to stubbornly check that forward momentum Marcus went with it, back-stepping around the ring and firing off counters as he did so.
That's the right way to face a pressure-fighter like Wilnis; standing square with him is only going to invite unnecessary problems. Marcus' tactic was essentially to go with Wilnis' flow and at the same time use his bone-breaking left kick, the one he broke Dustin Jacoby's right forearm with, as a counter every time Wilnis walked him down.
At the same time, Wilnis has a hair-trigger counter-punch arsenal which he fires off as soon as an opponent touches him. And so large portions of the fight would see Wilnis move forward and attack, Marcus counter the attack with a kick and then Wilnis counter the counter with a low kick or with venomous punches.
The two were closely matched in fitness and output; where Marcus edged ahead was with the cleanliness of his landing. Wilnis would often find his punches detonating on Marcus' gloves whereas Marcus was able to place his shin directly on Wilnis' exposed ribs and torso repeatedly throughout the fight.
In the later half of the five rounds Marcus' gas tank looked like it was fading slightly and robbing him of some of his sharpness. Wilnis looked unchanged, but his punches started landing cleaner. Unbelievably, Marcus' response to that in the fourth round was to drop his hands and commence exactly the kind of showboating which ended his night in New Jersey.
This time he got away with it, though he took some heavy blows that he did not need to and risked the fight's outcome needlessly. But risk is part of a fighter's make-up and if Marcus felt he needed to do that, who among us is accomplished enough to judge him for it?
Presumably it was intended as a piece of psychology to rattle Wilnis' composure. If it was it didnt work; instead it just to Wilnis rattling his. Wilnis ratcheted up the level of violence in the fifth and final round, landing some of his best shots of the fight, but the extra effort seemed likely to be too little, too late.
Marcus seemed to have a clear lead from the first two rounds and the third also looked to be his; Wilnis taking the last two would not be enough. He needed a finish, but when that didn't come he found himself going to the judges' scorecards in a fight he was sure he was going to win even quicker than the last one they had.
The scoring was interesting and reflected the closeness of the bout. Two judges had it for Wilnis but three had it for Marcus, taking the belt from Wilnis and restoring it to its previous owner. Marcus is now 2-1 against Wilnis but won this latest encounter by the narrowest of margins and a fourth fight seems inevitable.
Marcus/Wilnis looks set to become a kickboxing saga and, with all three fights thus far being wars, fans are not likely to complain about that.

Back to newsGLORY 24 Denver: Weigh-In ResultsNewsOct 8, 2015Tension crackled in the staredown between Joe ‘Stitch Em Up’ Schilling and Jason ‘Psycho’ Wilnis as the two GLORY 24 DENVER headliners squared off after successfully weighing in for their Friday night bout.
Schilling had been due to meet Artem ‘The Lion’ Levin here in a middleweight title fight but the champion pulled out with an injury. Wilnis stepped in to replace him and now has the opportunity to steal Schilling’s title shot if he can secure victory tomorrow.
Co-headline fighters Dustin Jacoby and Wayne Barrett, also fighting in the middleweight division, made weight with no issue and look set to have a possible Fight of the Night contender tomorrow night in a mid-table dogfight.
GLORY 24 DENVER has a four-man Heavyweight Contender Tournament as its centerpiece, the winner of which will move forward to a title shot against Rico Verhoeven at GLORY 26 AMSTERDAM in December.
On the Superfight Series card, Casey ‘Go’ Greene missed weight on his welterweight debut. The former middleweight was just outside the upper limit but was able to negotiate a catchweight encounter via surrendering a portion of his purse to his opponent.

Back to newsJason Wilnis: “This is my time now”NewsAug 21
33 KO's) is the world's number one middleweight kickboxer and a multi-time World Muay Thai champion
But neither his record nor his #1 spot in the official GLORY rankings impress Jason Wilnis
the 22-year-old Dutch fighter who will face him in the semi-finals of the GLORY 10 LOS ANGELES middleweight tournament
“I watched his fight with Sahak Parparyan at GLORY 7 and I didn’t like it
there was no action except for the last round
I can tell you now that my fight with Levin won’t look like that,” says Wilnis (19-2-1
“I know Levin quite well because I have seen him fighting in It’s Showtime and some other fights
He will do things like stand there doing a shoulder-shake
fight’ and then make a front-kick to the head
I am not going to give him the chance against me
He’s a good fighter and he has won a lot but he is not going to get the chance to dance around with me
Also in the GLORY 10 middleweight tournament are Stephen Wakeling (37-4-1
nicknamed ‘The Surgeon’ for his precision striking
and the self-confessed “emotional” fighter Joe ‘Stitch ‘Em Up’ Schilling (14-4
they will require a different approach should Wilnis meet either of them in the tournament
“The Englishman I saw fighting at GLORY 5 in London
he looked good when he stopped Eddie Walker with low kicks
Joe Schilling I don’t know at all,” he says
“But I’ve fought against this Muay Thai style a few times
They do a lot of front kicks and knees to the body
they can make it difficult for you to get close.”
And ‘close’ is exactly where Wilnis wants to be
He is nicknamed ‘Tyson’ because of his fighting style
which he has partly based on the former heavyweight boxing champion
Wilnis is a big fan of ‘Iron Mike’ and likes his approach to breaking opponents down
“Once I am on the inside then it’s my game
They call me ‘Tyson’ because of my fighting style
I throw a lot of hooks to the head and the body
“In training right now we are working some tactics for this
We have guys keeping me on the outside with kicks and long shots
Wilnis’ tactics have come from his trainers at The Colosseum gym but he’s also had a lot of input from one very special source
the esteemed veteran Peter Aerts joined the team and he has been worked with Wilnis and passed on some of his extensive fighting knowledge
The guy has been fighting something like 26 years
He was looking at Artem Levin for me and he gave me a few tips
he showed me some things to do,” Wilnis says
“I was sparring with him last week actually
He’s in Japan this week and when he is back we will be training together again
We were training tactics last week and we will do it next week as well.”
“[In the past] he has told me to fight more with my head
it was Aerts who influenced Wilnis into taking up kickboxing in the first place
Wilnis took inspiration from the ‘Dutch Lumberjack’
“When I was young I wanted to be a footballer but I got bored of it
I started kickboxing just for my conditioning and to stay in shape
maybe I could do that one day,’” he explains
“I came to the Colosseum when I was 16 years old and I’ve learned everything here
“Sometimes I arrive one hour before training and leave one hour after training
Wilnis admits that sometimes it seems a little surreal to be a training partner of Aerts
given that he was already a decorated champion achieving great things in Japan while Wilnis was just a schoolboy with a dream
Now it’s time for Wilnis to venture out into the international circuit himself and see what he can do to emulate his icons
It’s also the first time the middleweight division has had a major tournament and Wilnis is pleased to be taking part in the historical event
“It’s the biggest tournament that’s ever happened in this weight class
We never had a major tournament in this weight before
it was always just lightweight and heavyweight,” he says
“So I’m happy that at last we are seeing this kind of tournament in this weight division
And to have it in Los Angeles is great also
It’s my first time in the USA and I’m excited to see what that country is like.”
But as the youngest fighter in the tournament and also the least accomplished
there have been a few fans who have questioned his place in the line-up
Wilnis knows he has every right to be there but he doesn’t begrudge those fans who find him an unknown quantity
So to those fans who don’t know me I would say ‘Just watch me fight - and when you do

Back to newsGLORY 18: Barrett vs. Wilnis a key clash for both careersNewsOct 2, 2014Wayne Barrett (5-1-0, 4 KO’s) continues his quest for a world middleweight title shot when he steps in the ring at GLORY 18: RETURN TO GLORY at Grand Casino Hotel & Resort, Shawnee, Oklahoma on Friday, November 7.
He andDutch opponent Jason Wilnis (21-4-1, 6 KO’s) will face each other in a three-round co-main event superfight on the evening’s main card, which airs live across the US on SPIKE TV at 9PM ET/8PM CT.
Barrett, of Queens, New York, is ranked #2 in the division. He is one of the rising stars of the GLORY World Series and one of the top prospects on the American kickboxing scene.
He announced his presence in the 187lb/85kg category by stopping Robbie Plotkin, a fellow New Yorker and product of the famed Serra-Longo team, at GLORY 10 LOS ANGELES last year.
Immediately setting his sights on the top spot, he developed a feud with Joe ‘Stitch ‘Em Up Schilling’, the 2013 Middleweight Tournament Champion and the top US contender in the division.
The two have since fought twice, Barrett taking a decision in their first fight and losing a decision in their second, which took place in the semi-finals of the GLORY 17: LAST MAN STANDING tournament in June.
Now Barrett looks to get back on the contender trail by making a statement in the fight against Wilnis, a three-fight GLORY veteran who came into GLORY when the company acquired top Dutch organization It’s Showtime in 2012.
Wilnis is world class but has struggled to find form in GLORY and is currently riding a two-fight losing streak, though he bitterly protested the decision loss to former It’s Showtime middleweight champion Sahak Parparyan at GLORY 14 ZAGREB earlier this year.
He goes into this fight looking to prove that he deserves a place on the GLORY roster. Pride and career ambitions are on the line as the Utrecht, Netherlands kickboxer prepares for his clash with the tricky, boxing-based Barrett.
Tickets for GLORY 18: RETURN TO GLORY are available via www.GrandBoxOffice.com and are priced at $35, $55, and $100.
The show airs live on SPIKE TV on Friday, November 7, 9PM ET/8PM CT and will be broadcast in more than 140 territories around the world.

Back to newsAdegbuyi secures Amsterdam title shot with Heavyweight Contender Tournam...NewsOct 10, 2015Benjamin Adegbuyi will rematch world heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven in the main event of GLORY 26 AMSTERDAM.
The Romanian booked his spot opposite Verhoeven by winning two fights back-to-back in the Heavyweight Contender Tournament at GLORY 24 DENVER on Friday night. First he dispatched Mladen Brestovac of Croatia, then he took a split-decision win over Jahfarr Wilnis in the final.
Adegbuyi and Wilnis had a close-range, brutal war at a pace which defied the fact they were fighting at altitude. Both fighters stopped their semi-final opponents and in the final they worked non-stop with constant combinations as they looked to win the tournament in the same fashion.
The finish never came, but it looked close at times. Wilnis in particular looked close to scoring a stoppage in the third round but was unable to find the final blow. Adegbuyi was able to regain his composure and come right back at him, seizing the advantage.
It was an incredibly close fight between two combatants determined not to lose. The final ten seconds of the last round was one of the most intense periods of combat the GLORY ring has ever witnessed. The two traded huge shots back and forth, still looking for the knockout even in the dying moments of the fight.
The fact that the fight went the distance is testament to the heart and toughness of both fighters. The incredibly close nature of the contest was reflected in the judges’ decision: two had Adegbuyi as the winner, the other saw the fight for Wilnis. The audience seemed likewise divided, some supporting the decision and others protesting it.
Adegbuyi now moves forward to a second shot at Rico Verhoeven’s heavyweight championship. He challenged Verhoeven at GLORY 22 FRANCE but was unsuccessful. However, that fight came together on relatively short notice and Adegbuyi is sure that he can mount a successful challenge if he has a full training camp.
“The first fight I didn’t have very long to prepare for, me and my team weren’t really able to study Rico too much and work out the right strategy for him. For this rematch I will have two months to prepare, so I think it will be a different fight,” he said after the fight.
“I am so excited to fight in Amsterdam. It’s like the world capital of kickboxing, it’s where this all started and where so many legends coming from. The atmosphere is going to be really special, I am excited to be part of it.”
Wilnis had faced Ben Edwards in the first fight of the GLORY 24 DENVER card. Things were fairly even in the opening half of the first round as both landed with punches and kicks to the head and body, aware that they were fighting at altitude and thus looking to attack their opponent’s gas tank and fade him out.
Edwards is primarily a boxer and has serious KO power in his hands while Wilnis is the more complete kickboxer. Clean combination work came from his side, though Edwards was also flowing nicely at times and did some good work with the middle kick to the body.
Towards the end of the first Edwards looked like he was already starting to gas a little and Wilnis turned things up a bit, increasing his output and hammering away at the lead leg, classic Dutch-style combinations finishing on the low kick.
At the start of the second round things picked up where they left off. Suddenly Edwards folded over during one of the exchanges, his leg unable to stand the punishment. Wilnis poured the pressure on and hammered away at the leg, forcing Edwards to drop to the canvas for the first knockdown of the fight.
On the restart it was obvious that Edwards needed a quick overhand right KO. That was his only hope, but it wasn’t happening. Wilnis is on peak form right now and saw his path to victory. He used head kicks to draw Edwards’ attention upwards then hammered low kick after low kick into Edwards’ tenderized leg. It was too much for the Australian to bear. His leg on fire with pain, he went down again. Two knockdowns in one round meant the fight was immediately ended under Glory Tournament Rules.
The second semi-final fight, Benjamin Adegbuyi against Mladen Brestovac, was a great example of technical heavyweight kickboxing, two well-trained and intelligent fighters using timing and setups rather than looking to land a one-off power bomb.
Adegbuyi’s training camp saw him spend three weeks in Manchester, England as a sparring partner for heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, who will soon fight Wladimir Klitschko for the world heavyweight championship. He said the camp did a lot to improve his boxing and that was immediately evident in his crisp jab.
Brestovac seemed content to move backwards and let Adegbuyi come forward. That proved to be a mistake as the Romanian got to work with his combinations, racking up points and doing damage. Flashes of danger came from Brestovac, his left head kick flicking out with impressive speed and power, but Adegbuyi never looked especially flustered.
Into the final round and Brestovac was clearly tired. His leg was also hurt; he kept lifting it in anticipation of a leg kick. Adegbuyi duly obliged, baiting Brestovac into position and pounding the kick in. One kick after another landed clean until Brestovac could stand no more and hit the deck for the second leg-kick finish of the tournament.

ET) will put the best middleweights in kickboxing on center stage
as champion Jason “Psycho” Wilnis (30-6-1
8 KO) defends his title against former champ Simon “The ONE” Marcus (45-3-2
The winner won’t have to wait long to learn his next opponent; the card also features a four-man middleweight tournament which will determine who’s next in line for a shot at the belt
Wilnis and Marcus have met two times previously
Marcus won the first fight at GLORY 20 (April 2015)
but then lost his title when Wilnis beat him in shocking fashion at GLORY 33 (September 2016)
The upcoming rubber match will either put the rivalry to bed or just pour more gasoline on the fire
Also on the card is a certain crowd-pleaser that sees Danish lightweight Niclas “The Destroyer” Larsen (40-7-1
20 KO) looking to keep his two-fight winning streak alive against the always dangerous Sitmonchai
Larsen is worth the price of admission as he is one of the most exciting and unorthodox fighters on the planet
It will be interesting what he does against a young and talented Sitmonchai
The middleweight tournament will pit Brazilian brawler Alex “Po Atan” Pereira (20-5
11 KO) against Sweden’s Burim Rama (30-12-1
the GLORY 40 SuperFight Series can be seen on UFC Fight Pass (1:00 p.m

As I did with GLORY 39
here’s how I see the main event of the evening playing out
GLORY 39 Preview: Will Doumbé Defend Title vs Kongolo
The last time these two squared off was back at GLORY 33 when Wilnis came back after two tough early rounds to score a third-round TKO
Marcus was getting the best of the Dutch middleweight until near the end of the second when Marcus started showboating in the corner
He allowed Wilnis to hit him but didn’t appear to be in any kind of danger as he shrugged off the punches in a cocky fashion
the incompetent referee awarded a phantom knockdown for Wilnis and mysteriously gave Marcus a standing eight-count which doesn’t fall under GLORY rules
and it led to Marcus going into the third round angry and unhinged
the 30-year-old allowed his emotions to get the better of him
That was a drastically different scene from the first bout between the two at the GLORY 20 middleweight tournament
as Wilnis clearly hadn’t fully recovered from his semifinal war with Alex Pereira
both fighters will feel like they have something to prove
Marcus was able to keep his distance by throwing a lot of left kicks and knees to the body which slowed down Wilnis’ forward momentum
Wilnis likes to use a high-guard defense which leaves his body open to strikes
If he continues to allow Marcus to throw low combinations
but Marcus hits harder and brings a lot of speed and aggression to his fights
he will need to counter-strike effectively and pick his spots
3 combos and finish with leg kicks to slow Marcus down
the key for the Canadian striker is to keep his composure
He was winning the previous fight and was doing a great job of mixing up his strikes and keeping Wilnis off balance
Doing more of the same will give him a good chance to earn his title back
Marcus learned a valuable lesson at GLORY 33 and is coming into this fight with a chip on his shoulder
Wilnis shocked the kickboxing world when he won the middleweight title
Unless Wilnis has some new facets to his game
I don’t see him knocking off the bigger
The money play here is to roll with Marcus

Back to newsMarcus: "It's no easy job to hold this belt - but I welcome all challeng...NewsMay 3, 2017Simon 'The One' Marcus (47-3-2, 26 KO's) came through a hard five-round fight with Jason 'Psycho' Wilnis (30-7-1, 8 KO's) on Saturday night to reclaim the GLORY middleweight title by way of a split-decision.
The GLORY 40 COPENHAGEN headliner was the third time the pair have met in the ring, with all three fights being under the GLORY banner. Marcus is now 2-1 up in their series but admits that the fight was a close one and the decision could have gone either way..
“I stayed steady, fought my heart out and believed in myself and it's a dream come true. I know I was controlling the earlier rounds, Jason picked it up and started landing some good shots. I was tempted to try and brawl with him a bit but I stayed smart, kept moving and using my kicks to score,” he says.
“I did what I had to do, I controlled the pace more and controlled the fight more. I know it was a close fight. I was confident I would get the win [when we went to the judges] but it was close... I think the judges saw my spirit, saw my skill, I think the judges saw the way that I controlled things. Jason hit me with some good shots but I was always able to get back in control of the fight.”
Marcus agrees that at least one more fight between him and Wilnis looks likely. In the meantime, he already knows who his next challenge will be: Youri Belgaroui, who won the Middleweight Contender Tournament in Copenhagen just before Marcus fought Wilnis.
“I didn't see his fight... but as world champion you take on all comers and GLORY in particular you are always faced with the toughest guys in the word. It is no easy job to hold this belt but I welcome them all,” says Marcus.
“It takes a lot to hold this belt so with that comes a lot of responsibility. It doesn't matter who steps up to the plate, I am the world champion and I defend it.”
A date and location for that fight will be announced very shortly. Next on the schedule for GLORY Kickboxing is a visit the Netherlands for GLORY 41 HOLLAND in the city of Den Bosch. Highlights of the stacked card features Rico Verhoeven against Ismael Lazaar and Robin van Roosmalen against Petchpanomrung.

where he had his breakout combat sports experience
upsetting top-ranked talent Artem Levin at GLORY 10: "Los Angeles" to win the promotion's Middleweight world championship tournament
Schilling returns to action to headline the GLORY 30 "Superfight" series
It's a rematch after their first fight at GLORY 24: "Denver" in Oct
2015 ended prematurely because Wilnis suffered a foot injury
That's not the way Schilling wanted to win
so it makes sense to run it back once more
"Stitch 'Em Up" recently sat down with Whitney Miller for an exclusive interview with MMAmania.com
Miller was a former Miss United States in 2012 and is a current MMA fighter in training
which made for a terrific conversation with Schilling

Joe Schilling earned a technical knockout (TKO) victory over Jason Wilnis at GLORY 24 on Friday night (Oct
and Benjamin Adegbuyi finished Mladen Brestovac by TKO and edged Jahfarr Wilnis by split decision to win the heavyweight "Contender" tournament
The GLORY 24 main event looked to be headed to an exciting final round on Friday night (Oct
Joe Schilling defeated Jason Wilnis by technical knockout after the Dutchman couldn't answer the bell for the third round due to an injury to his left foot
The official time of the stoppage is 3:00 of round two
Schilling looked outstanding early on and was moving in and out on Wilnis and consistently landing his push kick to set up the rest of his offensive output and aggressive attack
"Stitch 'em Up" landed a straight left hand off the break to drop Wilnis about a minute into the second round
"Psycho" came roaring back later on in the round
and caught Schilling with a couple of big right hands
Schilling avoided the onslaught that followed and recovered nicely
It looked like the third round would be an exciting one
but Wilnis could not continue after injuring his foot
Next up for Schilling could be current champion, Artem Levin, who withdrew from the original matchup due to injury. Schilling recently told John O'Regan from Sherdog that the Russian champion doesn't want to fight him and was asked about it after the fight ended
"He's been ducking me for years," Schilling told Stephen Quadros after the fight's conclusion
"He will only fight me if I fight two or three other people first (the two fought against each other in the GLORY 10 and "Last Man Standing" tournaments)
I'm down to fight whoever GLORY puts against me."
Schilling said he wants in on the December card in the Netherlands
"They have a fight in Amsterdam (GLORY 26)
Dustin Jacoby picked up the biggest win of his kickboxing career in the co-main event
4-ranked Wayne Barrett in the third round with a left hook to which Barrett could not continue
The official stoppage came at 1:40 of the third round
Jacoby will assuredly move up in the rankings from his current spot at No
Jacoby carried the momentum of his GLORY 23 tournament victory into his hometown and came out very aggressively
In the third round he was on a mission and finally connected on the fight-ending punch to the delight of the Denver crowd
Barrett could not match the intensity and seemed very tentative throughout the contest
The New Yorker drops his fourth straight and is now 5-4
Benjamin Adegbuyi defeated Jahfarr Wilnis by split decision and Mladen Brestovac by TKO to earn the Ramon Dekkers memorial trophy and get a second crack at GLORY heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven
Verhoeven defeated Adegbuyi by unanimous decision at GLORY 22 this past June
The tournament final was a highly competitive one and the Denver elevation was a significant factor as the fight wore on
It unequivocally played a huge role in the final round as both fighters had almost nothing left in the tank
but neither fighter put the other in harm's way
Leg kicks were the story in both heavyweight tournament semifinal matchups
Adegbuyi advanced to the final after Mladen Brestovac could no longer continue due to the leg kicks the Romanian landed on his left leg
Adegbuyi dropped "The Scorpion Sting" once after hurting his leg earlier in the round
and when he continued to land kicks to the battered appendage
the Croatian slumped over in pain and referee Tom Johnson stepped in to wave it off
The official time came at 1:47 of the third round
Wilnis punched his ticket to the tournament final in similar fashion
The Dutchman continuously connected with punishing low kicks to the leg of Ben Edwards and dropped the Australian twice in the second round to pick up the TKO win
The stoppage came at 1:36 of the second round

UFC 281's main event pits longtime rivals Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira against one another for the 185lbs strap
The pair's history dates back to their time as professional kickboxers
'The Last Stylebender' and 'Potan' fought twice
with the Brazilian having his hand raised on both occasions
although many considered the result contentious and felt Adesanya had done enough to win
as 'Poatan' landed a flush left hook to knock out 'Izzy'
It remains the only time Adesanya has been finished during his fighting career
During UFC 281's press conference, Pereira was asked how he's approaching his first UFC title fight
The Brazilian explained that he's treating it as though it's the first time he and the champion have fought:

Former GLORY middleweight kickboxing champion Jason Wilnis has transitioned into the sport of mixed martial arts after a decorated career as a striker

“Everybody can say what they want,” Wilnis said

Wilnis goes into the bout with two wins on his fresh record that includes one knockout
He’ll be looking to extend his win tally to three and hand fellow undefeated prospect Radosław Paczuski the first loss of his career
While he acknowledged that it may be in the distant future as of now
Wilnis does see himself crossing paths with both of his former opponents
“We have a lot of kickboxing experience,” Wilnis said
“We have our different paths, but maybe we can see each other in the UFC later. I think that’s the plan for me, for Alex Pereira also
