A 22-year-old man from Arnhem passed away in the early hours of Friday as a result of a shooting in Pannerden
Three men were arrested in Doetinchem after the incident
An investigation is also ongoing for shooting incidents at a home in Pannerden and a home in Zeevenaar. A shooting was targeted toward a home on the Weiliburglaan, in Pannerden at around 2:30 a.m. The possible connection between these incidents is currently being investigated.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) was called in for the incident at the home in Zeevenaar. Possibly because there was a firework bomb involved.
The three men arrested in Doetinchem were also driving a vehicle that had a German license plate. Two of these were also from Doetinchem. One was underage, with the other being 22-years-old. The other is 26 years of age and is from Duiven. The woman who was arrested in Braamt sometime later is also from Duiven and is 28 years old.
“This is an incredibly sad and shocking day for our community,” said Zevenaar's Mayor Lucien van Riswijk. “I sympathize with the family and friends of the victim. This is a difficult time for them, but certainly also for the neighborhood. We all feel the impact of such an event.”

Anne Van Herynen is an Appleton resident who grew up in Zevenaar
World War II broke out during her formative years
and following is the first of a three-part series of how a young
teenage girl lived through the tragedies and triumphs of one of the most significant periods in our history.
Anne Van Herwynen was only 12 years old that summer day in 1938 when she made the 20-minute bike ride from her home on the Holland border into Germany to see family
The town residents flooded the streets that day
lined up on either side and in a festive mood for the visitor who was soon to arrive
Van Herwynen strained her neck to see the car coming down the street and then
“He was standing up in the car,’’ she said of Adolph Hitler
The crowd dutifully gave the Nazi salute and chants of “Heil Hitler’’ echoed all around her
and soon she began to feel the pokes in her side
the people looking at her and imploring her to fall in line and do the same
but she was unmoved about any sort of reprisal
I was too young to think about that,’’ she said
It would be just a year later when Hitler turned the world upside down and World War II became the centerpiece of Van Herwynen’s teenage years
“They stole the best years of my life from me
the best years of your life for God’s sake
but nothing going on that I was looking for.’’
That’s when she saw Adolf Hitler in person. pic.twitter.com/H3SifjcT0D
The war years revealed to her the absolute worst
Those were years that also saw the person she said was the love of her life
lose his life in the Indonesian War of Independence
She would eventually meet a man named Peter Van Herwynen
who had a brother who had moved to Appleton
Wisconsin after the war and convinced Anne and Peter
This is a life defined by triumph and tragedy
driven by a devout Catholic faith and the inevitable vagaries of youth
Then, Anne Van Herwynen sits up in her chair to deliver this message
There was supposed to be a marriage until Anne Van Herwynen’s grandmother decided there wouldn’t
“My grandmother — and you have to know my grandmother — would not let my mother marry my father,’’ Van Herwynen said
I found that out later on; because he was damn good-looking.’’
But meningitis took her mother at the age of four
I never called them aunts and uncles,’’ she said
They were more like brothers and sisters.”
the day they came in – in all their glory,’’ she said of the German army
It was just the night before when the country’s leader
went on national radio to tell her people they need not worry
that Hitler promised he would not invade Holland
“And in the morning there they were,’’ Van Herwynen said
“The first year they kind of left us alone
Zevenaar was a town of just a few thousand
who would become the target of the German army
“So, I had a lot of Jewish friends,’’ she said
But I was invited by a lot of my Jewish friends on Friday to come and eat with them
because what goes into the mouth doesn’t sin as much as what comes out.’ Now you know what kind of person she was.’’
German troops soon required every citizen to carry an ID card
and they made Jewish citizens wear a yellow star on their clothing with the word “Jood,” which means Jew
The Germans offered the Dutch Jews jam and bread if they would willingly get on the trucks
Van Herwynen would be witness to acts of evil countered by stunning acts of kindness and bravery
one side of the street had our post office and the other side had three Jewish families,’’ she said
hidden away in the post office by a preacher’s family
“because if you took in Jewish people and were caught
He lived right around the corner from a store run by a Jewish family
And when the Germans began to round up all the Jews
“You never thought he would do anything that he wasn’t supposed to do,’’ she said
Her life was defined by triumph and tragedy, driven by a devout Catholic faith and the inevitable vagaries of youth. pic.twitter.com/eqps4je2lt
but Van Herwynen began to see value in exposing herself to peril

GM Aleksandar Matanovic
one of the great players during the golden age of Serbian chess
He won the junior championship of his country in 1948 and earned the grandmaster title in 1955
He earned second place in Belgrade in 1954
the Vrnjacka Banja zonal tournament in 1967
Matanovic represented Yugoslavia in 11 Chess Olympiads (1954-72, 1978), playing alongside big names such as GMs Svetozar Gligoric, Borislav Ivkov, and Ljubomir Ljubojevic
He won five silver and four bronze medals with his team as well as one gold
He participated in four interzonal tournaments; his best result was seventh place in Portoroz, Slovenia, in 1958. That one was won by GM Mikhail Tal with 13.5/20
but the future world champion's only loss was against Matanovic
The Dutch GM Hein Donner wrote: "Only Matanovic managed to hold his own against him
The Yugoslav unleashed such concentrated violence that Tal caved in
It was one of the best and also one of the longest games of the tournament."
who was also a radio announcer and producer
could have been an even more successful player if he hadn't started writing and publishing
was his biggest legacy for the chess world
Matanovic founded the company Chess Informant (Šahovski Informator in Serbian) and started publishing books with the same name twice a year
It was a revolutionary new product in a time without the internet
you could get your hands on large collections of recent top-level games
professional players would compromise on the amount of clothes they would bring to tournaments to keep room in their suitcases for several Informants
As the number of events started to grow, Chess Informant went from two to three issues a year in 1991–2011 and since 2012, four Informants a year. GM Garry Kasparov famously said: "We are all children of Informant."
the publishing house issued more publications
such as the Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings (ECO)
Matanovic served as its editor-in-chief for more than two decades
he became the head of the management board
About the enormous influence Chess Informant had on chess
Matanovic said: "[L]ittle did we know that we were trailblazing a path towards an era yet to come—the information era."
IN MEMORIAM Grandmaster Aleksandar Matanovic (1930-2023), Chess Informant co-founder. Thank you for your kindness, dedication, legacy and love for the royal game. pic.twitter.com/7MlqkHhxVX
Matanovic attended a chess ceremony in Belgrade's Veterans' Club in honor of Gligoric's 100th birthday anniversary
He spoke about his 64-year-long friendship with Gligoric
from the early days of youth competitions to chess Olympiads
These 64 black and white squares brought us together and decided both his and my life path."
Matanovic was the oldest living grandmaster since the passing of Averbakh on May 7
The oldest grandmaster now is GM Juraj Nikolac of Croatia
we erroneously referred to GM Yair Kraidman of Israel

The Council of State ruled on Wednesday that the A15 motorway in the Arnhem region may be extended
This final ruling puts an end to a protracted legal procedure
the piece of A15 from Bemmel will be extended to Zevenaar
The government wants to combat traffic jams this way and also thinks it is vital that there is a direct connection between Rotterdam and Germany
the new road goes through protected nature areas
which leads to an increase in nitrogen deposition
Nature and environmental organizations opposed these plans
Previous objections to the nitrogen research carried out also existed
but the highest administrative court declared these unfounded
The project has been on the Council of State's desk since 2017
and there have been three Interlocutory orders
the Council of State felt the decision was not entirely in order yet
The Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management had to provide additional information about the plan to use the nitrogen space of six farms that will close for the construction project (external balancing)
De Vereniging Natuur en Milieufederatie Gelderland
the Association Nature and Environment Federation Gelderland
the Council of State ruled that the minister's additional justification is "adequate." "The additional substantiation shows that nitrogen deposition in the areas has decreased and will continue to decrease in the period up to 2030"
the ruling states and that was a condition for that external balancing

and represents a major development in renewable energy by GLP Europe
G-Park Zevenaar is a significant solar PV project for the Netherlands
The logistics complex will house a vast roof-mounted solar PV system with a total installed capacity of 16.2MWp

G-Park Zevenaar is located at the business park 7Poort
located in the established and strong logistics region of Arnhem – Nijmegen which is ranked 5th in the Dutch Logistics Hotspot Ranking 2022
The site is located closely to the German border and along the main transport corridors connecting Rotterdam and Amsterdam to the European markets
G-Park Zevenaar has been constructed to BREEAM Excellent principles and the use of PV has enabled the project to be certified as BREEAM Excellent
the energy generated will be exported to the grid and part of it will be diverted to the tenant for on-site consumption
Throughout the installation and construction process
measures have been taken to protect indigenous birds and plants
commented: “Embedding renewable energy generation
landlords and occupiers to achieve their net zero targets and future-proof assets
GLP is actively committed to this change in the logistics sector
The economic benefits that customers will enjoy through the cost savings in energy reduction will be just one of many attractions this project will offer to future occupiers

Normally there are five people in the office in Zevenaar
but due to the corona virus they must remain apart
Inverness transport celebrated its 15th anniversary on June 1
Founder Richard van den Dolder started as a freight forwarder in the attic space in 2005
The company now arranges shipments throughout Europe and an upcoming move is planned to a larger building nearby with more storage and overhaul options
All of Europe“The focus of our services started with the transport of potatoes
carrots and onions in the fresh produce sector,” says Richard
this has also been extended to the transport of cocoa and coffee beans and we are shipping various types of fruit and vegetables to and from every corner of the continent: from bulk transport to tautliners and coolers
we arrange the transport of seed potatoes far into Russia
we drive fruit and vegetables from Spain to Scandinavia
the name Inverness comes from Richard's fascination with Scotland
“I think Scotland is an incredibly beautiful country with a great work mentality
the name resembled my previous employer and so everything came together as the ideal name for our international company
Good contacts at the loading and unloading pointsHowever
the transport world is characterised by many players on the field
“Our strength lies not only in the knowledge of the European market
have good contacts with the various loading and unloading points
So we always know exactly where our client's palettes are
all our customers have to do is tell them where they want their cargo to be and we take care of the rest
such as phone calls back and forth with various logistics partners and taking care of the right customs activities
Simply put: We ensure that a customer's cargo goes from point A to B in the most favourable way possible and we unburden the customer from A to Z
Multiple choiceInverness Transport has grown further in the past 5 years
do bigger projects with various customers and more agricultural products have been added," says Richard proudly
“We have seen a lot of changes in recent years
Those long distances have come about because there is a lot of choice for the importers to get their products from somewhere
I also expect many shifts in the transport routes to other destinations in the near future
there remains scope to expand further with new customers and new loads
there are also challenges in the transport sector
Brexit still hangs like a sword of Damocles over the heads of transport companies and the corona virus has also had its impact on the sector
“Of course Brexit will have an impact on our trade
onions and potatoes from their own country as possible
but in the long term I expect that this will remain a potentially good market for everyone
but Richard noticed that the transport was not reduced
“It was a bit quieter at the beginning of this year
April and May our planners were extremely busy planning transports
I am confident that we can match last year's good sales
Inverness focuses on more storage and transhipment space
the question remains whether there will be a party for the anniversary
“But for this year we are going to postpone it for a while because of the corona virus
I am incredibly proud of the work the Inverness team has done over the years

On Thursday, the police suddenly launched an investigation at a Zevenaar home and released the woman’s picture, describing the case as “urgent.” The police did not say why the case became so time-sensitive seven weeks after Kayali’s disappearance but did say she might have fallen victim to a crime.
“The investigation in and around a home on Von Weberstraat in Zevenaar is still in full swing,” the police said. Officers were doing a trace evidence investigation and spoke to locals. The police also deployed special service dogs.
The arrested man is suspected of involvement in Kayali’s disappearance, the police said without revealing any details.

Dieren and the surrounding area are affected and have been told to boil the water for three minutes following an alert about the presence of the enterococcus bacteria
Viens said the contamination was “slight” but that the bug can be dangerous for people with a compromised immune system
The reservoir, at Ellecom near Dieren, feeds other reservoirs, a spokesman for Vitens told local broadcaster Omroep Gelderland
“Those reservoirs have not been affected but we did not want to take the risk and that is why we included the surrounding area in the warning as well,” he said
All water that is consumed should be boiled for three minutes
including the water to brush teeth with and water given to pets
and bottled water should be used to make formula
Last August enterococcus was found in a reservoir in Didam and 7,000 people were told to boil their drinking water
Vitalis has not said how long the warning will stay in place
The police are investigating in and around a home on Von Weberstraat in Zevenaar on Thursday in connection with the disappearance of a 42-year-old woman
describing her case as “urgent” and “very concerning.”
The police believe the woman may have fallen victim to a crime
Investigators would like to make contact with anyone who has seen her since December 29
The police did not say why the woman’s disappearance was suddenly considered urgent after seven weeks
“We are well aware that a longer period of time has passed
but no matter how small the information seems to you
all information can be useful for the investigation.”
A large-scale investigation team cordoned off the home and was combing it on Thursday
Police officers also spoke to locals in the Gelderland border down
They expect the investigation to take several days
People traveling by train should be prepared for many delays and hindrances due to construction on the tracks this year
These construction projects will often be during daytime
This is due to staff shortages and a lack of materials
said the railway management company ProRail
The company announced last year that railway passengers will have to deal with delays and hindrances caused by construction until 2030
because a lot of the tracks in the country were laid shortly after the Second World War and are in need of replacement
The construction are extra complex this year due to large scale work being done in Germany
Work is being done on expanding and renewing the tracks between Emmerich and Oberhausen
no rail traffic is possible on this route in the summer
This has led to ProRail not being able to work on the track on the Brabantroute between Rotterdam and Venlo or the Bentheimroute between Amsterdam and Oldenzaal during this period
has said that these construction projects will have a huge impact on the Dutch railway system
We can do nothing on the Brabantroute and Oldenzaal
so the work has to be done before or after this,” he said during a press briefing in Vught
where there is also intensive work being done on the tracks
He stated that a total of 25 large construction projects and a total of 400 construction projects are planned this year
People in Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland will have to deal with a lot of delays this year
There will also be a long term construction project near the station in Groningen
The railway company wanted to work on the tracks there for 51 days
Voppen has said that the delay is due to a significant shortage of electricians among contractors
It is not yet clear how long the work on the tracks will take
Archeologists from RAAP discovered a complete and relatively intact Roman sanctuary
What makes the discovery extra special is several complete votive stones or altars dedicated to various gods and goddesses
“The sanctuary in Herwen-Hemeling is special for several reasons
Never before has such a complete complex been found in the Netherlands with a temple building
the amount of limestone sculpture fragments is unprecedented,” RAAP said
The sanctuary was mainly used by Roman soldiers
as can be seen from the many roof tile stamps - an industry that was an army activity at the time
The archeologists also found remains of horse harnesses
The soldiers prayed to their gods in Herwen-Hemeling
At least two temples were built at the junction of the Rijn and the Waal rivers
One was a Gallo-Roman commune temple with colorfully painted walls and a tiled roof
The archeologists also found the remains of several votive stones or small altars
placed by soldiers to thank their gods for victories won or safe returns home
The stones were dedicated to Hercules Magusanus
The sanctuary is also remarkably well preserved
Where other Roman buildings were often broken down to reuse the ready-made stones in other construction projects
“Gelderland has unexpectedly gained a special Roman site,” said the province’s Heritage Commissioner Peter Drenth
“A valuable addition to our story about the Roman Limes
We will now investigate this beautiful site as best we can and show it to the residents of Gelderland.”
Various key pieces from the site will be displayed in Museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen from June 24
