The school playground of my six-year-old son is no longer consumed by the great Messi-Ronaldo debate but instead is alive to the shouts of “HAAAAARRR-LAND” Bryne FK have even arranged for us to stay population of about 13,000 people surrounded by farmland and situated 30 minutes away from Stavanger With a stadium that barely holds 5,000 fans the club are fully embracing their heritage “Our goal is to forge a farmers’ identity and instill pride in both the club and the region,” Bryne Marketing Manager Bjorn Hagerup Roeken said “Our supporters’ union has always celebrated our agricultural roots in their chants so honoring our heritage holds deep significance for us,” he said VIP tickets include a plush sofa hoisted up by tractors and grain silos which have been rebuilt with platforms for video assistant referee cameras One side of the stadium is a large open square where supporters can drive in and park their tractors to watch the game While most leagues hand the player of the SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake High School student actors spoke and sang about love belonging and societal change in thick Irish accents on Monday as they rehearsed “A Man of No Importance” — or as they pronounce it Music Director Drew Benware pointed out it is fitting that the play opens on Thursday this week who plays the titular “man of no importance,” said at first the students weren’t sure if they’d be able to pull off the Irish accent they’re finding themselves slipping into it in their everyday lives “I can’t say the title of the show without an Irish accent,” student actor Lily Zander said Students recounted speaking to parents and friends in recent weeks with the lilting musical accent even letting it fly when they’re expressing frustration over a badminton match “A Man of No Importance” is a venture into meta-theater similar to last year’s “Kiss Me “This production is a play-within-a-play-within-a-play whereby the St Imelda’s Players are simultaneously preparing for a production of Oscar Wilde’s ‘Salome’ while also telling the real-life story of Alfie Byrne the title character,” Benware wrote in the cliffs notes Benware said not a lot of high schools do this show The casting is tight and the material is more mature He brought the script to students and the administration first to see if this was a story they were interested in and comfortable telling “They were hooked right off the bat,” Benware said Keating said they’re enjoying working with the more mature themes and connecting with it surprisingly easily “Despite the fact that we’re all teenagers we’re conveying this story of a 40-year-old man very well That’s a nice surprise,” Keating said “I think they’re grateful to have the opportunity to share real characters in real situations,” Benware said of the students “They recognize the power of theater to not only entertain and to help us tap into a story of someone else that we might not meet every day.” He said it is a story about love in many different forms — a man’s love of his community sibling love and a man coming to terms with loving himself for who he truly is … whether or not people accept that “It is our primary job as a district to make every student feel valued and welcomed and that they can be their true self.” He hopes the DEI themes of the show spawn conversations and thought after the show and encourage theatergoers to develop greater empathy to carry into their everyday lives “This is going to leave people going home thinking about things in their own life and what they saw on the stage,” Keating said Benware wrote a cliffs notes guide for the show The show carries many allusions to Irish author and playwright Oscar Wilde The cliffs notes will be on a green paper tucked inside the program Keating had not known much about Oscar Wilde before he’s been reading a lot about the writer and enjoying Wilde’s “unmatchable wit.” Keating said the “man of no importance,” Alfie Byrne is a humble man who loves being with his friends and making art on stage A student of the theater for his four years in high school Keating said he has connected well with this character There’s a moment in the play when Alfie’s friends are coming to him with nervous questions about costumes props and lines and he says “No matter what this will be art.” Keating said when freshmen students come to him with questions about costumes “It makes me feel like I’m the character helping my friends out,” he said “The love of the art is something that I carry as well.” He vividly remembers being a freshman actor seeing this “intangible class of people” guiding him and his friends before they graduated “I never really considered that I would make it to be one of the seniors I looked up to as a freshman,” Keating said Now he’s the person passing on knowledge to the freshmen and he said he knows he’s leaving the program in great hands with the next generation This year’s play has a smaller cast than in the past few years so he said they’ve become very close He’s trying to understand himself while feeling like he’s wasted his life as a bus conductor He also feels trapped by society’s expectations of him The “man of no importance” shares many parallels with his hero Wilde including their punishment by society for being who they are Alfie shouts “I know who you are Queensberry!” referencing the Marquess of Queensberry who wrote the letter that landed Wilde in jail for the “love that dare not speak its name.” Wilde was imprisoned for two years in the 1890s after being convicted of sodomy homosexuality was illegal in Britain where he was living “Also spoken of are symbols by which the homosexual community at the time would identify one another: green carnations and a center part in the hair,” Benware wrote in the cliffs notes Keating said it’s about a changing of values — the old culture clashing with the new “Society was beginning to see a rift between conservatism (represented by Carney the clergy and the Sodality of the Sacred Heart) and a more socially progressive future,” Benware wrote in the cliffs notes “The significant influence of the Catholic Church in the lives of these characters cannot be overstated.” The musical’s creators Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens are well known for their works “Ragtime,” “Anastasia” and “Seussical.” Technology teacher Mike Uchal is teaching a theater/tech class for the first time this year He partnered with director Bonnie Brewer and his students have built the sets and technical elements of the show Benware said the tech students are just as excited about the show as the actors are and that Uchal told him earlier this week that the theater takes many different talents The curtains at the Saranac Lake High School Sports Gazette The sports magazine brought to you by the next generation of sport writers Norway is revered around the world for its breathtaking landscapes its cultural heritage and its extortionately priced beer It was at this point the border officer looked at me in apparent surprise based in the eponymous agricultural town on the south-west coast of Norway it’s not a regular away day for foreign fans it would become apparent quite how special the club and its fans truly are One might ask why I would take an entire weekend to go and watch a second division football match in Norway in November there’s plenty of lower league football to watch in the UK and Norway is incredibly cold intrinsically linked to the current state of English football That is because Bryne FK is the boyhood club of Erling Haaland but moved with his parents back to their hometown of Bryne at the age of three It was there where he began to play football for the club progressing through Byrne’s youth setup to play for the first team in 2016 He was just 15 at the time of his debut for the club both his father and uncle had represented Haaland only played 16 games for Bryne that season before moving to Eliteserien side Molde 2016 was a difficult year for the club; having last been knocked out of the top-flight in 2003 that year saw them relegated to the third tier of Norwegian football for the first time since 1973 It was not until the abbreviated season of 2020 that they managed to return to the second division I had heard through various channels that Bryne were not only doing well in their current division It was difficult to ignore an opportunity to see the foundations of a player who has rewritten the Premier League history books for the past two seasons It was only when I arrived that I unwittingly came to realise the importance of the match I had happened to buy tickets for over a month before If Bryne were to win their tie against Egersund they would return to the Eliteserien after a 21-year absence For a person with precious little knowledge of Norwegian Stavanger and Bryne are wonderfully welcoming places Compared to the bumbling Englishman who can just about say he ‘eats the apple’ (‘Jeg spiser eplet’ for anyone interested) most Norwegians I met who claimed to not speak much English could hold a half-an-hour conversation with ease and were often happy to do so Stepping out from the comfort of my AirBnB early on Saturday I was faced with the same conundrum that faces every football fan on matchday: what to do in those interminable hours before kick-off Having organised to meet my contact at Bryne at midday I decided to kill some time before my train walking around Stavanger A port city bathed in the kind of light that Casper David Friedrichs only dreamed of Stavanger is a hub for cruise ships and scientific explorations alike that I stumbled upon one of the most remarkable shops I have ever had the fortune to enter TheFootballIdiots is Norway’s first dedicated football shirt shop showcasing everything from rare classics to contemporary fashions It is one of the few places where you can see Barcelona’s orange 1998/00 third kit hanging next to a mid-nineties purple and green Bury FC away shirt A mecca for those who worship at the altar of Kappa and Admiral TheFootballIdiots was opened by Alan Scott was an insight not only into the regional attitudes towards football but also a taste of what it was like to be an outsider looking in on Norwegian sporting culture The train from Stavanger to Bryne is uncharacteristically cheap for a country where a pint can set you back more than £13 skirting lakes and skimming rocky outcrops as it wends its way south saw the emergence of various industries producing farming machinery in the early 20th century Expecting to see a maze of colourless factories what I didn’t fully anticipate was the sight that greeted me on disembarking the train resplendent in Dortmund yellow and bathed in a heavenly light crowned by a halo bearing the legendary Gabriel Høyland’s quote “Talk with your feet and hopefully everything will be alright,” stood like a Nordic Statue of Liberty It was the first glimpse of the town’s love fans must pass under a small bridge on which is emblazoned the mantra ‘Ett Liv – En Klubb’ alongside the club’s crest one club’; it is an apt mantra for a club whose fanbase shares a familial bond with each other and with the team with a maximum capacity of 4000 spectators there is a dedicated space for tractor parking in view of the pitch and I personally had not visited a ground with a dedicated ten-lane bowling alley before The banners adorning the stands proclaiming ‘Respect Love’ were another declaration of the ethos that this club exudes chatting away with the excited trepidation of a man whose life’s work is about to come to fruition Espen had taken on a quasi-mythical stature in my mind Both parents took on roles within the club’s structure while his brother played in the promotion winning side in 1999 But Espen himself fits into the picture for his work as one of Bryne’s youth coaches; notably There are few better people to guide you through the storied history of Bryne FK than Espen Undheim The coach walked me through the hallowed halls of Bryne’s clubhouse describing each of the team’s seasons and punctuating the facts and statistics with anecdotes often too remarkable to be believed He then pointed out a skinny youth on the right-hand side of one of the squads “When [Erling] was coming here to our after-school programme The special thing about him was that in the room where we had food and I don’t think I will ever see any players we looked out over the training pitches where groups of young players of all ages worked on skills playing small-sided games Even with the backdrop of the club’s most important game in almost a quarter of a century the focus still lay on the next generation “because all of the boys and girls look when he plays matches and look at his moves and ask the coaches ‘What did he do at his own training here What was his focus?’ so he is a great inspiration for our young players.” Bryne has been part of Espen’s life for longer than he can remember the importance of the day’s game couldn’t be understated for everything that makes the club unique: “We say that we are a club for everyone who wants to support something local.” which was by now filling with supporters making their way to the Jærhallen Over a thousand tickets had been sold to the pre-match festivities being held there; the hall was lined with tables all leading to a stage where local bands roused the crowd with songs only a few of which did not insult local rivals Sandnes even I could join in when a wholly unexpected rendition of Skinner and Baddiel’s ‘Three Lions’ floated over the now-beer sodden hall Every person in that tent was brought together by one thing: football Talking to Norwegians about the Derby County sides of the 1980s and hearing about Olav’s grandfather’s away trips to Old Trafford there was a unity that transcended language and national identity There was a collective roar of approval when Olav reappeared on stage clad in a Bryne away shirt and a bucket hat to belt out the surprisingly catchy anthem ‘Me æ Di Beste Og Viking De Vett Det’ (loosely translated to ‘We are the best and Viking knows it’) Fever pitch does the atmosphere a disservice Having picked up my own Bryne FK bucket hat so as to both fit in and stay mercifully warm in the stands I took my place facing the fabled ‘Tractor Tribune’ Standing on concrete terracing as the northern sunlight began to fade who had travelled the hour or so to see their side I can imagine that the experience was not entirely dissimilar from watching football in England before the introduction of seating but Norway too has seen the benefit of forbidding alcohol in view of the pitch It was difficult to see the players as they walked out onto the pitch just before kick-off due to the pyrotechnics that both side’s ultras had brought with them one assumes for the express purpose of staying warm a group of twenty-somethings sporting matching jumpers and scarves an outside-of-the-boot strike from talismanic Axel Kryger was the first sign that something truly special was happening The ‘playing out from the back’ style of football that has characterised Pep’s Manchester City in which Haaland has played such a pivotal role has clearly not taken hold at the striker’s boyhood club crunch tackles and header tennis are still very much in vogue the OBOS-Ligaen Despite the visitors pulling back a goal after half-an-hour unleashing another wave of thick yellow smoke a sense of the inevitability of a winning goal hung heavy in the dense Norwegian air who had worked his way through Bryne’s youth grades under the watchful tutelage of coaches like Espen Undheim fired a shot from point blank range into the Egersund net As the final whistle rang out around the Bryne Stadion Amidst the onrush of fans who hurdled the hoardings to invade the pitch horns from the amassed tractors in the tribune sounded around the ground and the first notes of Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’ began to play over the PA system Bryne FK were an Eliteserien club once more The short walk back to the train station gave me time to reflect as the sounds of celebration receded into the distance watching families rejoice and players mingle with fans it felt as if I was at some private celebration which I had graciously been allowed witness I was an outsider who had been let into the fold As is often the strange case with football it was not the match that really sticks in my mind Kryger’s goal was indeed magnificent and there were passages of play that truly showed why Bryne deserved promotion it was everything around the match – the people the party (which I’m reliably informed went on into the small hours) and the welcome – that made Bryne such a special place to be that on that grey Saturday in November Will Colledge is a sports writer from London He is himself a keen cyclist with a background in art and languages exploring sport outside the mainstream in search of fascinating stories A Derby County fan with a Tottenham Women’s season ticket he won’t hesitate to mention John Toshack at any given opportunity Y
The current head to head record for the teams are Kristiansund BK 5 win(s) Kristiansund BK haven't lost to Bryne in their last 5 meetings (3W, 2D). land needed to complete the Bryne Drive extension from Mapleview Drive to Essa Road is currently for sale as the city has pushed back its timeline to have shovels in the ground The city is not expected to expropriate the land needed to finish the extension A south Barrie extension designed to ease traffic woes has encountered a speed bump as the city awaits someone with an extra $17 million to come along the city launched the Bryne Drive extension project a two-phase initiative to connect an existing stretch of Bryne Drive off Mapleview Drive The first phase, from Mapleview to Harvie, opened this past September It was a $16-million construction project approved by city council in 2016 and it was expected construction would begin on the northern portion of the extension by 2027 with the city saying property acquisition has pushed back the project’s timeline the land needed to join the southern portion of Bryne to its northern terminus — an 84.43 acre parcel of land with an MPAC-assessed value of just under $18 million — is owned by Bell Media Inc Bell has no plans to develop the property, but a company spokesperson confirmed to Simcoe.com it is working with the city adding that Barrie had already expropriated a chunk of the land in question City hall confirmed it did expropriate some land from Bell to complete the Big Bay Point Road/Harvie Road/Highway 400 project — joining the two roadways with a Highway 400 overpass — which opened in June 2021 the city said it will not expropriate any land for the Bryne extension Barrie’s general manager of infrastructure and growth management said the city is waiting for someone to purchase and develop the land instead the required property must be given to the city at no cost,” he said in an email “This usually occurs when the landowner applies to develop the land This begs the question: who would purchase over $17 million in land Michael Gleason, a broker and the commercial specialist for the Peggy Hill Team realtors pointed out that we’re not talking all 84.43 acres here “The city doesn’t need all of that land,” he explained He went on to say the expectation is for a developer to come along purchase the land from Bell and then build the road that would later service the structures that would eventually be built there which would add all the required municipal infrastructure beyond that gets the advantage of the city putting all those services in,” he said It’s also in a developer’s best interest to build that road anyway adding the city has the final say in what can and cannot be built and may not approve any other developments on the land until the Bryne extension is complete “You have to work with them (city hall),” he said they’re never going to let you do anything.” Gleason explained that the value of the unused land could subsequently go up as a result meaning it could be a good investment for the purchaser However, finding someone to buy the land might be tricky these days, especially considering the as-yet unknown long-term effects a Canada-U.S. trade war could have on construction costs “There’s not a whole bunch of people lined up to write that kind of cheque,” Gleason added he is optimistic the land will be developed pointing to several other industrial developments on the go in the city’s south end “They’re just using up the existing space down there but someone will do all of that (buy and develop the Bryne Drive land) As for fans of the nearby CTV television station the company says it isn’t going anywhere “Our station and tower are not for sale and will not be impacted by the development,” reads a statement provided by a Bell Media spokesperson Brett Glover is a journalist with the Barrie Advance Your browser is out of date and taken an unexpected approach to honouring their top performers. The club, where Man City’s goal machine Erling Haaland once honed his skills, has made headlines after offering a sensational reward to their matchday’s best performer. For years, it was tradition in the Premier League for standout players to be handed a bottle of champagne after putting in a stellar performance. However, modern football has largely replaced that with a sleek trophy, removing the alcohol-based incentive. Haaland’s former team, Bryne FK, have taken an unconventional detour from the norm by embracing their deep agricultural roots. During their return to Norway’s top flight after a 21-year absence, the club squared off against European quarter-finalists Bodø/Glimt in a highly anticipated fixture. Despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat, Dutch goalkeeper Jan de Boer was the standout performer, pulling off a series of heroic saves, including a crucial second-half penalty stop. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bryne Fotballklubb (@brynefotball) His exceptional efforts kept Bryne FK in contention and earned him the club’s prestigious Player of the Match award Bryne FK took their official Instagram page to post a phot of Jan de Boer posing with his four full crates of farm fresh eggs as a reward for his performance The choice of prize is far from random. Bryne FK is situated in the agricultural heartland of south-western Norway where farming dominates the local economy. The club has long embraced its farming heritage “We are farmers and we are proud of it” from the stands. Bryne FK has even introduced ‘VIP’ matchday experiences where supporters can watch games from a tractor parked pitchside. As if gifting players crates of eggs wasn’t intriguing enough Bryne FK have confirmed that their unique prize-giving tradition will continue BBC also reports that next week’s Man of the Match against Kristiansund on 6 April will not receive eggs. the standout player will be rewarded with cartons of locally sourced milk Former champion has hailed Evra ahead of his MMA debut Paris Saint-Germain's top scoring forward is a doubt for the Champions League semi-final second leg clash against Arsenal FIFA has relegated one African club over match-fixing allegations Time and where to watch Nigeria's Efe Ajagba take on Congo's Martin Bakole in a fight for African boxing king Time and where to watch Flying Eagles of Nigeria's 2nd U20 AFCON group game against Young Atlas Lions of Morocco Former England player who rejected the chance to represent the Nigerian national team now wants to replace Eric Chelle See what fans are saying about the robbery of Nigerian boxer Efe Ajagba against Congolese star Martin Bakole as Battle of Africa ends in a draw Artificial intelligence weighs in on the speculations surrounding Victor Osimhen's future Bruno Fernandes is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League with Al Hilal said to have him in their summer plans Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is reportedly mulling over possibly staying at Galatasaray for one more season Lamine Yamal earned high praise from Inter Milan defender Alessandro Former Super Eagles defender Taye Taiwo has advised Inter Milan on what they need to do to defeat Barcelona on Tuesday Ex-Besiktas midfielder Sinan Engin claims that Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has treated Victor Osimhen unfairly Arsenal Wenger previewed Arsenal's upcoming UCL second leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes Ahmed Musa will captain the Nigeria Super Eagles at the Unity Cup in London later this month leading the team against Ghana and other nations Arsenal celebrate 26 years since Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu’s unforgettable solo goal against Tottenham in the 1999 North London Derby A former Fenerbahce player has urged the team to sack Jose Mourinho Athletics great Usain Bolt arranged a front three of GOATS here is everything to know about Trent Alexander-Arnold's life and career After serving an entertaining goal-fest in the first leg Inter and Barcelona will go head-to-head at San Siro to book a place in the Champions League final With Trent Alexander-Arnold departing Liverpool is he the Premier League's greatest full-back of all time Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold announced his departure from the Reds today which has led to a lot of reactions on social media Moises Caicedo has expressed his pride and gratitude after being named Chelsea's Player of the Season by his teammates and the supporters FOOTBALL fans in Norway have been offered the chance to watch games from a bizarre VIP area Bryne FK is inviting supporters to enjoy their promotion push from the comfort of a pitchside TRACTOR Divisjon club are currently pushing for promotion to Norway's top flight Bryne are famous for nurturing a young Erling Haaland and last played in the Eliteserien back in 2003 the club have come up with a novel way of packing the stands at the 4,000 capacity Bryne Stadion Fans have been invited to drive their tractors directly into the stadium "Drive the tractor into the gate at the clubhouse, park the tractor towards the pitch and watch the match from the cab." and their work talks to us about how she uses Obasanjo’s Internet What’s the first thing you do when you wake up The first thing I do when I wake up is take my dog out to potty because she’s the one who wakes me up How do you use the internet for work or pleasure mostly for pleasure because I use it to keep in touch with my friends find out what’s going on in the world there’s a work aspect given that I am a content creator and it’s something that I guess I see as work now I use it to put out my deliverables for whichever brand deals I may have or any sponsored posts I am supposed to deliver at a particular time I use the internet to research what brands and companies are currently having campaigns Whether it’s on YouTube or just sponsored posts on Snapchat It’s good to be able to see what brands are currently advertising and then be able to pitch my company’s services to them What moment or episode in your life would you say captured the essence of the internet The thing that comes to mind happened in 2018 There was a whole trend where slimmer women were saying they had fupas and things like that And then I posted a picture with my fupa saying “I have a flat tummy.” I got a lot of backlash for that and I was like but I thought we were doing word and opposite.” It just shows that people are unaware of how they portray certain things on the internet The internet is not real for the most part and you can’t put too much stock into how people feel because people generally don’t realize when they’re being hypocritical The internet just allows all these things to happen in one space so it seems like this is how everything is but it’s not It was interesting to see that people can talk about how they look but I can’t because I’m bigger and I don’t like that that’s what the internet is basically Your favorite social media platform and why I can spend hours scrolling on TikTok and just laughing It knows what you’re going to like to see it puts that on your For You Page and it keeps you there I feel like it’s easier for people to be themselves on TikTok It’s less curated or less uppity Instagram TikTok feels like we’re just there having fun Everybody is chilling and we’re laughing it just seems a lot more casual and chill and I enjoy using it because of that I like Twitter but I think I use it less now that it is the way it is Sometimes I don’t like being on TikTok because I don’t feel like hearing sounds So I like using Twitter when I want to laugh but don’t want to hear sounds I’m able to scroll and laugh in silence I have a meme album even though I always forget to use the memes and it takes me so long time to find them I say that all the time because that’s very real Do you remember the first time something you posted went viral I used to watch a lot of ‘What I Eat in a Day’ on TikTok and I was like I think I was only following maybe two of my friends and I was like I was filming what I was eating and then I did my quick little editing and even did the voiceover – everything on the same day – and then I just posted it randomly I didn’t think people were going to see it because I guess I was also used to Instagram but anyway I put it off private but then it kept going It was very interesting to see because that was my first ever video on TikTok It made me feel like I was meant to be doing something on social media because I’ve deleted a lot of Instagram accounts and come back and everything and whenever I come back a lot of people resonate with whatever it is that I put out and I was like “Wait this is my first TikTok and this is how it’s going Let’s try another one and then another one,” and then eventually I stopped doing what ‘What I Eat in a Day’ because it felt cliche But I just wanted to move into something I was more passionate about I won’t say that it was a negative experience What’s the most outrage you have ever generated over something you posted It was the same tweet where I posted me and my fupa saying I have a six-pack Somebody said “six packs of indomie” which is hilarious to me I don’t put much stock in strangers’ opinions of how I look But I thought the jokes were a little bit funny I think the first thing is that I have set boundaries I never speak about my friends or people I know personally in a negative light on the internet That’s something I never do because you can’t come back from that And that’s also another thing that I would not want my friend to do to me regardless of how terrible they made me feel I’m not gonna start tweeting about it or telling a story time about it even if we’re no longer friends Another rule I live by is that I don’t divulge intricate details of my life because people are weird and I’ve experienced that firsthand with random strangers coming to me and explaining what my room looks my room and everything So if I’m out with my friends doing something I don’t post on my stories or anything until I get home people are very weird and this is me with a pretty small following So I can’t imagine how those with larger followings can navigate that or people I know personally in a negative way on the internet I don’t post in real time and I don’t divulge details about my life basically a lifestyle content creator because most of the time successful lifestyle content creators kind of enable parasocial relationships with the audience That’s why people tune in because they want to know every single thing We’re all amebos and that’s a sure way to grow if you’re gonna be gisting and telling everybody all your business YouTube had given her a bunch of strikes for some reason and her account was removed but she has started her website and I pay $2 a month to watch ingrown hair videos I swear it’s part of my subscriptions with my Apple Music I was able to pay $10 a year but now it’s a monthly thing and I don’t play with that It’s so relaxing and she also talks about her life or things that are happening while it’s going on She’s the only YouTuber that I’ve been able to enjoy her videos I used to like pimple popping and it’s cool but nothing beats ingrown hair removal Special shoutout to Dr Pops it on YouTube too So I would not say certain things online that I would say to my friends just because I am aware that it can be taken out of context and it might not be a very nice thing to say So I would say my online persona is much nicer than I am but I just think that not every opinion should be shared on the internet if I feel like an opinion is going to garner a lot of outrage or attention for unnecessary reasons but I’m not trying to end up on a gossip blog – you know how it is they just take one sentence and run with it I would say that my online persona is that I try to be a lot more tolerant and nicer because people are not very nice but you know My favorite emoji is the one where it’s blushing with its hand its mouth because that’s literally always me I’m always blushing and my hand is just covering my mouth I just think it tends to look very monotonous I’m more particular about my post than my feed I only watch YouTube for my in-grown hair removals and things like that But TikTok for the most part because like I said Which Nigerian creator do you think the world needs to see and hear more of He vlogs and he’s in the University of Benin or something I think his vlogs are the funniest thing ever I like his vlogs because they are so realistic They really represent an average Nigerian life And I think the way he also narrates his voiceovers are very funny I’m not really into fitness content creators But I love how she approaches working out and fitness I just think she’s also a cool person She’s definitely a creator I would really ride with because I love her videos They make fitness so accessible and it doesn’t put too much emphasis on how you look or a certain type of stomach or booty or anything like that She’s just so relatable and down to earth And the other cool person that I follow is this girl on TikTok called Political Baby and articulate analysis of different facets of patriarchy or different topics in our society There’s nothing that she has said that I have ever disagreed with I don’t think there’s any celebrity or anything that follows me anywhere but when I see cute girls or baddies and they’re like “Oh my God I follow you on TikTok” I’m like “Really?!” It makes me feel good So all the girlies that follow me are all super cool I went to the I Said What I Said live show in December and those girls are hilarious But funny enough I’ve never listened to any of their episodes before then and I don’t think I’ve listened to anyone after but if they were doing a live show in Lagos That was one podcast I finished and I’m always checking if they have more episodes The conversation just seems cool and I guess I’m also an amebo Have you ever hooked up with someone you met online 5 people you’d love to see answer these questions Read previous Obasanjo’s musicals, comedies and dramas. Her father is said to have worked on the Vickers Supermarine Spitfire, Britain's fighter aircraft. Barbara Bryne also was a spitfire in her own right — but of the stage. Bryne, the British American actor who delighted generations of fans with her commanding performances as Queens Victoria and Elizabeth at the Guthrie Theater and maternal figures on Broadway, died Tuesday of natural causes at Jones Harrison Senior Living in Minneapolis. "She was a small lady with a huge talent — one of a kind," said former Guthrie artistic director Joe Dowling, who directed Bryne in numerous shows at the Minneapolis theater where images of her in action are embossed on the exterior and interior of the building. Dowling first worked with Bryne at the Stratford (Ontario) Festival, created by the Guthrie's founder, Tyrone Guthrie. She played a Rude Mechanical in "A Midsummer Night's Dream," the beginning of a decadeslong partnership with the director that included "H.M.S. Pinafore," "Macbeth," "Jane Eyre," "His Girl Friday" and "Pygmalion." Under Dowling's purview, Bryne also performed in "Pride and Prejudice," "Three Sisters" and "A Christmas Carol," showing her range in dramatic, comic and musical roles. She famously descended in a balloon as Queen Victoria in "The Pirates of Penzance" in 2004. "One of the greatest things about Barbara was her attention to detail and her absolute insistence on textual accuracy," said Dowling. "She had a precision about her work that was beautiful to watch." Bryne also was a favorite of Stephen Sondheim, for whom she originated roles in two of his Broadway shows: "Sunday in the Park With George" and "Into the Woods." In "Sunday," she played an art critic and an older mother. In "Woods," she played the main character's mother. As they were prepping "Woods" for Broadway, Bryne slipped in Grand Central station and broke her patella, recalled daughter Susan Spence of Minneapolis. Sondheim rewrote the role to explain the cane that she needed to have during her performance. But that was not enough. "The problem was when she dies in the show, she was supposed to fall over but she couldn't do it," said Spence. "So, she came up with her passing away standing up and staring straight ahead." For her turns in New York, Bryne was memorialized by famous cartoonist Al Hirschfeld in several drawings, including a solo one for "Entertaining Mr. Sloane," where Bryne's performance as landlady Kath garnered a Drama Desk nomination. She was born Barbara Birkinshaw in England on April 1, 1929, a daughter of inventor Edward Bernard Birkinshaw and homemaker Winifred Cairns. She changed her name to Bryne because she wanted to make it unique, Spence said. During the London blitz in World War II, Bryneworked as a teenage scout to help keep citizens safe, blowing a whistle to notify people whenever she saw or heard German rockets coming in. "Everybody would scatter into the bomb shelters," said Spence. "The rockets used to run out of fuel and just drop. She lost many friends." After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, she and her husband, TV producer Denny Spence, moved to Canada, where friends were founding a performing arts company. From there she made her way to the Stratford Festival. In 1970, she landed at the Guthrie at the invitation of then artistic director Michael Langham. Bryne appeared in more than 60 productions over five decades at the Guthrie. In the mid-1980s, she took to Broadway and also made films, including "Amadeus" and "The Bostonians." Bryne returned to the Guthrie for Dowling's tenure, which began in the mid-1990s. Peter Michael Goetz, her frequent scene partner at the theater, said she was probably the most talented artist he ever worked with in his career. "Acting with her was like performing with an animal onstage," said Goetz. "She had this quiet wonder and she underplayed everything, which meant that all the focus would always go to her." Bryne and Goetz had some unscripted moments onstage, including once during a matinee for "Arsenic and Old Lace." Two late-arriving patrons walked up to Goetz and Bryne onstage as they were performing and asked for help with their seats. Goetz obliged, taking the ladies ever so gingerly to their seats while Bryne, not wanting to be seen cracking up, left the stage, her shoulders going up and down as she repressed her laughter. She came back to the stage when he did and the show resumed as if nothing had happened. "She was the real English grand dame of the theater," said Goetz. "Just amazing." Bryne's husband died in January 2018. A joint memorial will be held sometime in June for the couple, said Spence, their only survivor. "Barbara was an Old World actor who didn't take shortcuts," said Dowling. "She was dead-letter perfect in her roles." Rohan Preston covers theater for the Minnesota Star Tribune. Playoff It’s looking like a fall finish for Barrie’s Bryne Drive street construction project City officials have said this project is in its final stages and is expected to wrap up this fall Connecting this section of road will help with traffic flows across the city’s south end and add options for travel in southwest Barrie This portion of the project is about one kilometre in length and carries a cost of approximately $13.8 million Property acquisition was expected to occur in 2025 with utility relocation anticipated in 2026, but construction wasn’t expected to start until 2027. Now property acquisitions have pushed the expected completion of this design project to 2029. This portion carries a total project cost of $21.9 million Mayor Alex Nuttall announced the city is spending more than $110 million on infrastructure improvements and repaving projects in Barrie this year — more than 20 construction projects as well as paving and re-paving 20 kilometres of city streets Road resurfacing projects proactively prevent deterioration and costly repairs GE would not be the company it is today without its employees We created “Quick Six” to celebrate our diverse talent by asking employees six questions that uncover the unique ways that they contribute to GE and the world I had an opportunity to do the Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) track which allowed me to have my two remaining rotations in CMCs one in CMC Material Behavior and my last rotation in EBC coatings where I currently reside I also took a six-month bubble assignment in Asheville NC as a CMC quality engineer for LEAP shrouds I’ve been here a total of four and a half years and loving every second of it!How would you say the work you currently do is impacting our products and customers?Ongoing coatings durability issues are a significant impact to the business and our customers l work with a talented team of coatings engineers to develop and implement coatings solutions to help mitigate this impact. As the Coatings Digital Focal l also drive digital initiatives to collect coatings processing data to help optimize improved coating performance in order to protect supply chain. How did you get into the field of engineering?I watched the movie Twister as a kid my parents sent me to meteorology camp and nurtured my love for science I got involved in a study that tracks girls in high school and what leads them to pursue STEM careers That opened me up to a lot of workshops and college visits to Iowa State to visit their engineering department and I got to experience how humanitarian engineering is I think engineering gets a bad rep because it’s made out to be very cold and mechanical Everything engineering does helps towards improving humanity I started to move away from storm chasing into engineering around sophomore year in high school which is what ultimately led me to the University of Iowa and I’ve never looked back! What do you love about working at GE Aviation? We solve complex problems here at GE but they affect something we all do regularly such as air travel This really hit home for me when I first started working at the Evendale plan in 2014 I was flying back from Paris on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and as someone who was fresh out of college and a designer for the stage 2 blade the culture of volunteerism that we have here at GE is incredible I have found so many opportunities to give back to the community which is really important to me I had a colleague by the name of Laura Armanios and we were both recognized at the GE Volunteer for starting a program called Limitless for Bond Hill Academy of the Cincinnati public schools This enabled us to work with Cincinnati public school teachers and encourage them to develop extracurricular activities for students in order to make an impactful and sustainable effort to get their kids more excited in STEM.It’s been really rewarding and inspiring to have a company like GE that supports its employees for giving back to the community while making an impact at work and these are the two biggest reasons why I love and enjoy working here at GE Aviation Being able to wake up and go into work every day knowing we have a mission to solve very big and complex problems is probably the biggest motivator for me I love working with an amazing group of people that are focused on problem solving so work never gets boring. What would you tell new folks primarily women coming into engineering roles here at GE?When you are in engineering technical reviews you deserve it just as much as anyone else who’s more senior level than you get involved in early career professional organizations get involved in different tech communities There’s a lot of opportunities to not only develop your professional career but also your personal. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your hobbies?I actually do standup comedy here in Cincinnati and have been a comedian for five years now It’s a great time to be silly and use the other side of my brain and this is one of the biggest things I do outside of work besides volunteering and reading I was encouraged by my friends to do an open mic contest at my college and I ended up getting second place The Des Moines Playhouse in Iowa had a Second City-like sketch comedy club called Second Saturday so every other Saturday of the month we would learn improv and had to write sketches I watched a lot of SNL and Mad TV which kind of helped me be silly and work on my comedy prep I still get stage fright every time I walk on stage Something I do that always helps me before I get on stage is imagine that I’m talking to a group of friends and family whether I’m talking to 150 group of strangers in a comedy club or 30 people in a conference room This has actually been really helpful for me in terms of public speaking skills I’ve really enjoyed it!Did you know Quick Six is a series © document.write(new
