This milestone in the E6 Ranheim-Værnes project comes after 890 blasting and the excavation of 360,000 cubic meters of rock
Nye Veier and ACCIONA marked the breakthrough in the new 3.9-kilometer-long Hell Tunnel
The blasting work were carried out from both sides of the tunnel until the meeting point between them was reached
The tunnel operation from Hommelvik started in April 2021
and on the Hell side of the tunnel in June the same year
A total of 392 blasting was carried out from the south and 468 from the Hell side
We are now embarking on the next phase of the project with great optimism
The work so far is a clear example of the good work done by our workers and partners
They have succeeded in performing complex and challenging tasks together
especially those who have worked inside the tunnel
- Nye Veier is very pleased that we have now completed the blasting work on the construction of the Hell tunnel
This is an important milestone moving forwards to an improvement of the E6 from Ranheim to Værnes in terms of capacity and traffic safety
The work will now continue in the Hell tunnel
with fitting out and completion of the tunnel with surface water systems
This includes blasting of side tunnels and ditches
but also less noisy work such as the establishment of a road and fittings in the tunnel
the work will be moved from the inside of the tunnel to work outside with the construction of a road in the day zone
Those who live near the tunnel will notice a significant reduction in the transport of excavated material
which will help reduce both dust and noise from the project
the inhabitants of the area will also experience that there is a need to close the road less often than before
The next step will involve safety checks and tests before motorists can drive through the new tunnel
The breakthrough in the 1.6-kilometer-long Være tunnel
which is also part of the E6 Ranheim-Værnes project
It is expected that the breakthrough in the third tunnel
is building the E6 motorway between Ranheim and Værnes
which will improve connectivity in the northern part of the county of Trøndelag (central Norway)
The project involves the design and construction of 23 kilometres of motorway
including 7.2 kilometres of tunnels and five new two-level intersections
The route also includes three new road bridges which
will run parallel to the existing structures
the existing road will be widened from two to four lanes
which will increase the traffic throughput
considerably improve safety and reduce the need for diversions in the event of
accidents and the performance of maintenance work
360 000 cubic meters of rock have been taken out
Much of the stone will be used in the construction of the new road

Turnkey contractor ACCIONA is design and constructing of 23 kilometres of four-lane highway in collaboration with Norwegian state-owned Nye Veier
Design and construction of a 23-kilometer four-lane highway
The project involved the design and construction of a 23-kilometer four-lane highway along the existing E6 route
It also included the construction of three tunnels parallel to the current ones
The project features eight bridges and three grade-separated interchanges
This new infrastructure will expand the road from two to four lanes
improving mobility in the northern part of Trøndelag county
Construction began in 2020 and was initially planned for completion in 2027
ACCIONA was also responsible for traffic management and the construction of temporary and alternative routes to maintain traffic flow between Ranheim and Værnes
ACCIONA has carried out basic design work with Nye Veier under the client-contractor partnership model being implemented in the Norwegian public works market
The company engaged Rambøll and Leonhard Nilsen & Sønner AS as subcontractors for the project
The basic design work included how to reduce the risk of unforeseen circumstances
It also optimised the road design to improve safety and traffic flow during the construction phase
the route comprises approximately 15 km of open road
including bridges and approximately 8 km of tunnels
ACCIONA is a global company with a business model based on sustainability
Our goal is to meet society's most important needs through the supply of renewable energy
We operate in 43 countries and have about 40,000 employees
The head office is located in the Spanish capital Madrid
Our commitment to sustainability is rooted in the UN's sustainability goals
we will build a 23 km new four-lane motorway from Ranheim to Værnes
Here is an overview of the start of construction on the various projects
The entire stretch between Ranheim and the airport at Værnes is scheduled for completion in 2025
New Roads will open on the road between Trondheim and Hommelvik at the end of 2024
ACCIONA is making an efford to minimize the enironmental impact generated by the E6 Ranheim-Værnes project by impleting measures and always following profesional advice
Here are some examples of how we constantly work to safeguard nature and the environment in the local area:
Fish and mussels from the Rivers Homla and Høybybekken have been removed from the area affected by the project
We will create an artificial pond to create a suitable habitat for frogs upstreams in Høybybekken
the area of Høybydalen will be improved for salmon and trouts migration with the new circuit
All areas are carefully studied to minimize the impact over the fauna
respecting nesting areas or bats corridors
Protected species: ACCIONA helped to mark where a special orchid bloomed which has not been seen since 1975
We monitor the noise generated by the project placing noise monitoring stations and
We have also implemented a monitoring system to keep control on the water quality of the rivers to identify any possible effect over them
All process water from tunnel construction is treated in the 4 Water treatment plants that Acciona has in the pro
ACCIONA aims to build the new E6 as gently as possible
We do what we can to ensure that people and the environment along the road are exposed to as little inconvenience and strain as possible
We try as best we can to set up the work so that the risk of damage is as small as possible
we cannot guarantee that damage will not occur
Experience from previous projects shows that some injuries can occur even if we have taken our precautions
If someone still thinks that we have not behaved gently enough
and we will come and assess the relationship
Damage to buildings can occur because of vibrations or rubble after blasting
We therefore often put out vibration meters that monitor the level of the vibrations during blasting
Most of the blasts is to open new barrels in the three tunnels
We recommend that you report the damage to your insurance company
Insurance companies usually require that claims be reported within a certain time after the damage is discovered
The insurance company would like to have a claim rate prepared
the company will consider whether they will file a recourse claim against the Nye Veier/Acciona
If you discover damage that you believe is caused by our construction activity
e-mail us or a send a letter to ACCIONA xxxxxx
Give a brief description of the damage and when it was discovered
We will contact you and make an initial assessment of the damage
In the event of damage to homes that may be related to blasting work
we will investigate whether the home has been mapped earlier and what may have been registered by previous damage
We will also examine the vibration measurements and any blasting report
