The latest calculation from Cambridge University’s bitcoin electricity consumption index suggests that as a result the sector consumes more energy in a year than many countries Despite noise from ventilation fans so loud that the company had to spend about £1.5m on insulation after complaints from neighbours the hot areas in the Hønefoss warehouse can reach 55C The critics are certainly circling. Russia’s central bank has proposed outlawing all cryptocurrency operations in the country, and China has already done so Swedish regulators have called for something similar in Europe told the Guardian his government was reviewing its options “Although crypto-mining and its underlying technology might represent some possible benefits in the long run it is difficult to justify the extensive use of renewable energy today,” Gram said “The ministry of local government and regional development is currently reviewing potential policy measures in order to address the challenges related to extensive energy usage caused by crypto-mining.” But there is a fightback brewing in the sector a digital assets company that seeks to become “the Goldman Sachs of crypto” launched a sustainability programme on energy use and social responsibility saying the industry needed to tackle a “false narrative around it being bad for the environment” It has been described by some critics as greenwashing but within a world that has until now been less than transparent over its activities who founded the company with friends after deciding to turn a hobby into a business said he also believed it was time for the sector to push back at the prevailing narrative it’s always going to be huge – I think we can always compare to that of a small European country,” he said “That includes also traditional gold mining which takes more than four times the amount of energy as bitcoin mining.” in spite of misgivings from the International Monetary Fund and mining operations provided economic returns through tax and employment Mining is further said to offer a way for countries with excess renewable energy supply from hydro wind or solar power at certain times and seasons to make value of it within their own borders and without transfer costs Estimates of what proportion of the energy used in mining is renewable vary from 25% to 57% “Mining is not polluting in itself,” said Pettersen “If you are running coal to run mining then that’s another story Mining should be done in more than places like Norway – and it can be a way to save trapped energy or in El Salvador where they are now using energy from volcanoes setting up production when it wasn’t there before.” Kryptovault aims to have 15,000 miners at work by this autumn have nicknamed one area between two huge walls The company is transitioning from older bitcoin miners to new ones shipped from China that are said to be three times more efficient There will be plenty more waste heat to use The company is in early talks to dry seaweed for a local firm country after country will adopt bitcoin as legal tender and at some point it will be obvious that it is going to change the world,” he said “Just as it became obvious that the internet was here to stay.” *Evidence of activity probably inflated owing to redirected IP addresses via the use of VPN or proxy services Data from the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Illinois Size: 650 square feet Years lived in: 2 years When Lauren’s House Call was featured this summer readers were intrigued by her wonderful mix of vintage and modern so I was thrilled when Lauren gave an enthusiastic “yes” for a full tour I was inspired by the distinct yet harmonious moods and tones she’s achieved in one relatively small space guess who has Rudolf Valentino in her bedroom which focuses on design consultations for a variety of budgets and spaces Lauren beautifully combines garage sale and high-end finds and I love how so many of her pieces have fantastic and funny stories to accompany them When I asked Lauren about how she acquired Rudolf which I think perfectly sums up her approach to designing her space: “As soon as I saw him I knew I had to have him… and I would figure out the rest.” Words to live by I don’t know that I have a style so much as I find something then figure out a way to incorporate it into my space Years of working in the interior design industry make me want to plan out every single detail of my home but it’s not so simple when it’s your own home I have to find that one magical piece then everything else seems to fall in place around it Inspiration: I have always had a love for retail design You can create such impactful designs by taking simple materials and applying them in unexpected ways Favorite Element: Definitely the dining room The room is such a dramatic contrast to the rest of my place; the dark walls provide for a very intimate atmosphere When you are sitting in the living room and look back into the dining room all of the faces from the portraits reflect onto the mirrors on the ceiling but there is always a party of at least 15 stoic guests in my dining room I live in the cutest Chicago courtyard building around My neighbors and I call it “The Palace” because it looks like a castle But it is seriously lacking in the direct sunlight department I guess it doesn’t help that I painted my dining room the darkest shade of blue I could find and uninstalled the sconces in my living room but my plants and I would love a little more light but two UV lights aimed at my tree in an attempt to keep him alive… Yes I know I should just move it closer to the window but he just looks so nice right where he is I used to have draperies in my living room and bamboo roman shades in my dining room but one by one they all came down to let in more light My dining room plants are now thriving and have grown so high they provide a little bit of privacy is apparently an acquired taste: you either love it or you don’t get it The most common response is that my home fits my personality— loud “Does your landlord know what you have done?” Surprisingly Biggest Embarrassment: I hate having window units What I wouldn’t give to have central air just magically appear You have to get a little creative in concealing that eyesore while still allowing air through so I bought a macramé hanging and used it instead of sheers in my bedroom lets plenty of light in and still allows air through Now if I could just figure out a way to block out the noise I needed to come up with some way to cover up the jbox locations on my living room wall where I uninstalled two sconces After scouring Pinterest and elevating my wall a million different ways in AutoCAD This over-ambitious weekend project sat unfinished for two months I finally got bored enough over Christmas vacation that I decided to finish it looks like a ten-foot self portrait of my hair My DIY chandelier and mirrored ceiling medallion in the dining room were surprisingly simple in comparison to the yarn art although both required considerable time on a ladder I had been eyeing the Ikea hex mirrors forever but just couldn’t figure out where to use them My dining room was so dark that any reflective surface would help so it was decided…they were going on the ceiling They ended up being the perfect addition to the chandelier my OCD kicked in when planning the layout and I drafted up a few different variations before I committed to a pattern I ended up installing them with industrial strength Velcro in case I needed a little wiggle room fingers crossed it will make for an easy removal as well Biggest Indulgence: I can pretty much validate any purchase when it comes to my home which wasn’t necessarily a problem until I ditched the steady paycheck and made the jump to start my own design firm I have made a new rule for myself when it comes to vintage: If I will regret not purchasing something more than I will regret the money I spent then that thing is probably coming home with me I was out with my sisters on a Sunday afternoon walking through Andersonville when I stumbled upon the most amazing 6’ tall vintage poster at Brownstone Antiques I had no room for him in my place and my sisters repeatedly told me I was crazy for wanting him On Monday morning I got to my studio and I was still thinking about Rudolph so I impulsively called and paid for him over the phone and he was delivered a few days later I finally decided that with a few alterations the bedroom would be the perfect spot for him and accessories (from years of hoarding) to choose from so in the entire redesign of my bedroom the only purchases I made to make this Latin lover work Now Rudolph Valentino has a home and I love my new bedroom Best Advice: Love the things your buy and take your time Dream Sources: I pretty much love everything from Julian Chichester so for now I am stuck shopping their warehouse sale in High Point Locally: Scout and Architectural Artifacts Follow Apartment Therapy’s board House Tours Apartment Therapy on Pinterest. Company expanding OSL1-Enebakk with fourth building Green Mountain is expanding its data center campus outside Oslo The company this week announced it had started construction of a new 10 MW expansion at its OSL1-Enebakk site (previously known as DC3-Oslo) 5,800 sqm (62,430 sq ft) building is an extension to two existing buildings dedicated to an ‘international cloud provider.’ “We are very excited about all the activity going on at our Enebakk campus right now Especially that our client has renewed their trust in us and chosen to expand their activities here," said Svein Atle Hagaseth CTS Nordics has been chosen as the Design & Build contractor for the expansion project At full build-out, the campus could reach 93MW. There are two other single-tenant 4MW buildings on the site; the first launched in 2020 and the second in 2021 In December 2022, the Nordic data center company completed a new 13.5MW building at the campus. The 10,000 sqm (107,700 sq ft) three-story multi-tenant colocation facility was first announced in late 2021 Green Mountain was founded in 2009. Israeli real estate firm Azrieli Group acquired Green Mountain from Norwegian real estate firm Smedvig for $850 million in 2021 While the company primarily operates in Norway, it last year acquired a data center outside London in Romford and recently announced plans for a new campus outside Frankfurt in Germany Data Centre Dynamics Ltd (DCD), 32-38 Saffron Hill, London, EC1N 8FH Email. Asker is playing home against Hønefoss on Sat Members of Parliament were demanding answers on Friday after Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported on the existence of a top secret satellite base set up in 2000 with US support over the years The base has been used for years as a listening post to track down terrorists but it also reportedly has picked up communication among Norwegian civilians that can be in violation of Norwegian law The Parliament’s own commission that monitors intelligence gathering in Norway the so-called EOS-utvalg led by former Defense Minister Eldbjørg Løwer has itself been “uncertain” about whether the base has engaged in illegal surveillance of Norwegians in Norway It’s located on the grounds of the old Eggemoen military camp between the towns of Hønefoss and Jevnaker about an hour’s drive northwest of Oslo “We have been uncertain about whether the manner in which E-tjenesten (Norway’s military intelligence service) has carried out its assignments has been adequately in line with today’s laws,” Løwer told NRK “We’ve had a need for a clarification that what they’re doing is legal.” She added that “the most important thing for us is to see that E-tjenesten isn’t conducting surveillance of Norwegians in Norway and it’s a very important control point for us.” Løwer’s uncertainty has set off alarms at the Parliament also from the Liberal Party that’s now a member of Norway’s conservative government coalition MP Abid Raja of the Liberals was thus demanding that his own government clarify whether the operations at Eggemoen have violated privacy laws in Norway “I think this is very disturbing for the Parliament,” Raja He noted how Løwer’s EOS commission reports to the Parliament: “If they’re uncertain whether the law has been followed He said it’s important that Norway has an intelligence service that “can protect us” against terror and threats “but if our confidence in E-tjenesten disappears because of illegal surveillance of Norwegians in Norway His colleague Bjørnar Moxnes of the Reds Party claimed it was “unforgiveable” that Norwegian governments extending back to the early 2000s “have set up American spying and surveillance programs on Norwegian soil and kept it secret from Norwegian citizens also against Norwegian self-governance.” He also demanded that any information collected about Norwegians must be deleted immediately an Oslo attorney who specializes in constitutional and surveillance issues said he had no doubt that Norway’s intelligence gathering activities with the Americans have violated both Norwegian law the Norwegian Constitution and the international convention on human rights and that “they know it.” He wrote in a commentary on NRK that Norwegian governments including the two led by former Labour Party Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg who now leads NATO “We others have only had cryptic hints through the EOS commission’s report in 2016 Now NRK has revealed (based on documents from the US’ National Security Agency and revealed by former NSA employee John Snowden) that E-tjenesten has for many years collected and stored information also on Norwegian citizens’ electronic communication in and out of Norway.” Wessel-Aas suggests that those gathering the intelligence have put themselves above the law presumably in the interests of national security an MP and member of the Parliament’s disciplinary committee from the Socialist Left Party said it was important that a new law be put in place that sets a framework to which technology can be adapted He said it’s wrong if the opposite occurs allowing “our principles and values to be adapted to the cheapest and simplest forms of surveillance.” Frank Bakke-Jensen of the Conservative Party who recently took over as Norway’s new defense minister went on the defensive himself and initially responded only briefly to NRK’s report He wrote in an email to NRK that E-tjenesten was not conducting surveillance of Norwegians in Norway and that the government agreed current laws against civilian surveillance must be updated He claimed that work on proposed changes to the law was underway He elaborated on that during an appearance on NRK’s morning radio debate program Politisk kvarter and repeated his claims that Norwegians were not subjected to illegal surveillance Bakke-Jensen further claimed in a press release Friday morning that the EOS monitoring commission had carried out a control exercise of E-tjeneste’s satellite station at Eggemoen “and had not criticized its operations.” He confirmed that data had been continually collected “from satellites in outer space” at what he called “the station at Ringerike (the region where Eggemoen is located).” He claimed the station is “completely under Norwegian control” and used to carry out E-tjenesten‘s obligation “to reveal and warn about threats to national security.” He added that it was important to the government that the Parliament “has no doubts about how E-tjenesten operates within its legal framework.” That’s why he agrees that current law formulated 20 years ago needs to be updated since “both technology and the threat picture has changed considerably.” He said a proposal for an updated law was expected to be sent out to hearing later this year newsinenglish.no/Nina Berglund If you like what we are doing, please consider a NM I rundt 27 varmegrader og i strålende solskinn møttes de to lagene på Hønefoss gress ettersom kunstgressmatta på AKA arena er under renovering og stadion derfor ikke var mulig å spille på Strømsgodset gjorde hele ni endringer fra laget som startet mot Odd onsdag der kun 18-åringen Tobias Gulliksen og stopperkjempen Gustav Valsvik sto igjen Strømsgodset eide ballen mest i åpningsminuttene men Hønefoss yppet frempå med både hjørnespark og skudd mot mål Det var dog Strømsgodsets som fikk kampens første sjanse da Valdimar Thór Ingimundarson allerede etter fem minutter kom alene igjennom mot Hønefoss-keeper Flasza Utover i første omgang var det gjestene i marineblått som dominerte spillet ute på gressmatta og Strømsgodset viste fram et godt kombinasjonsspill der kantene ble flittig brukt for å skape gode innleggsmuligheter Et duellsterkt HBK-forsvar ryddet imidlertid godt unna Strømsgodset gikk i ledelsen etter 20 minutter da Valdimar Ingimundarson ble felt innenfor 16-meteren Fjorårets kaptein Mikkel Maigaard gikk fram for å utfordre HBK-keeper Grzegorz Stanislaw Flasza fra elleve meter og limte sitt skudd inntil høyre stolpe Til tross for scoring imot virket ikke hjemmelaget å henge med hodene av den grunn De hvitkledde viste at også de kunne by på offensive trusler Strømsgodset dominerte klart pasningsspillet og utnyttet flankene aktivt for å skape sjanser Lagene gikk til hvilen med ett måls ledelse i favør Strømsgodset der Ari Leifsson byttet plass med Gustav Valsvik Omtrent ti minutter ut i omgangen var Godet nære å doble ledelsen da et hardt innlegg ble slått inn fra venstrekanten På bakre stolpe stormet Riel Nguen fram for å sette inn scoringen men på fremre stolpe kastet en Hønefoss-spiller seg inn for å avverge scoringsmuligheten Forsvarsspilleren sendte imidlertid ballen rett i metallet og det var en tydelig lettet keeper og HBK-forsvarer som så ballen gå stolpe-ut fremfor inn spilleminutt steg også temperaturen i kampen vesentlig I løpet av seks minutter fikk tre spillere tildelt hvert sitt gule kort to HBK-spillere og Strømsgodset Ari Leifsson Det var klart Strømsgodset som viste mest offensiv kraft og et sterkt blått midtbaneledd ryddet godt opp foran SIF-forsvaret Så etter 78 minutter doblet Strømsgodset sin ledelse Et marineblått frispark fra omtrent 40 meter på høyreside av midtbanen ble slått diagonalt over der en Strømsgodset-spiller stusset inn i midten av 16-meteren Der dukket en kald innbytter i Johan Hove opp og han satte ballen hardt bak HBK-keeperen og lagde dermed 0–2 i Hønefoss Ved 0–2 scoringen så det også ut til at Hønefoss mistet troen på cupeventyr og Ullevål Det var de marineblå gjestene som sto for sjansene de siste ti minuttene foruten et skudd som ble lekkert blokkert av Ari Leifsson og to hjørnespark som bunnet ut i ingenting Strømsgodset gjorde mange pasninger og brukte mange ballberøringer i siste tredjedel av banen og Strømsgodset kunne reise hjem til Drammen med seier i første runde av NM Hønefoss: Grzegorz Stanislaw Flasza – Lars Rydje (Christiaan Junior Ethan Yohannes Wielens Strømsgodset: Morten Sætra – Nicholas Mickelson (Johan Hove fra 72’ Kreshnik Krasniqi– Kristoffer Tokstad (Dilawar Ahmadzay fra 72’ Riel Nguen – Valdimar Ingimundarson (Halldor Stenevik fra 72’) Most of the 58 cyclists taking part in this year's LifeCycle Challenge left for
