The Norwegian top-flight match between Rosenborg and Lillestrom was abandoned on Sunday after supporters threw tennis balls and fishcakes onto the pitch in protest against the use of video assistant referees (VAR)
The game was interrupted on multiple occasions as objects
were thrown onto Rosenborg’s Lerkendal Stadion field from both sets of fans
Lillestrom supporters also held up a banner reading “We will never give up
The two teams returned to the dressing rooms twice and came back out onto the pitch in an attempt to fulfil the fixture before the match was abandoned with only 32 minutes played
A Rosenborg statement read: “We can confirm that Rosenborg-Lillestrom has been cancelled following a decision by the referee and will not be completed today.” Lillestrom added that “work is now being done to find a new time for when the match will be played”

VAR was introduced into Eliteserien, the Norwegian top flight, in 2023. The technology had already been implemented across Europe’s top divisions and utilised at major FIFA and UEFA tournaments
helping improve decision-making but also generating persistent controversy
Fans across Norway have protested against VAR since its introduction
with fan groups coordinating an en masse anti-VAR demonstration last year
Clubs in Norway are all owned by their members
Supporters have used their voices elsewhere in Scandinavia to object to the technology. In May, Sweden became the first country to reject implementing VAR after fan backlash
Supporter pressure — clubs in Sweden must also be a minimum 51 per cent owned by fans — prompted the climbdown after the president of the Swedish Football Federation
Reinfeldt had approved trials later this year
Last month, Premier League clubs rejected proposals to scrap VAR following a motion from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the league’s AGM

The match in the Norwegian top flight between Rosenborg BK and Lillestrom was suspended on Sunday after fans showed their displeasure with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) by throwing fish cakes onto the field
After a two-minute bombardment of fish cakes
the referee stopped the match and sent the players to the dressing room
with tennis balls and smoke bombs being thrown onto the field
The referee abandoned the match around the half-hour mark with the score 0-0
VAR has stirred controversy in the Norwegian Eliteserien
with several clubs' supporter unions claiming that the time referees spend making decisions using the system ruins matches
It has faced criticism in other leagues also, with Sweden's top leagues deciding in April not to implement VAR due to opposition from clubs

Lillestrom SK have commitment with three Nigerian youngsters after they handed professional contracts to Kparobo Ariehri and Tochukwu Ogboji as well as an agreement with Sporting Lagos for 16-year-old winger Seun Akanji
Ariehri from Beyond Limits featured for the Flying Eagles at last year’s U20 AFCON WAFU B qualifiers
while defender Ogboji has been capped by the Golden Eaglets
Lillestrom sports director Simon Mesfin said they are also pleased to have secured an option on Akanji
“Akanji is a player who was scouted during a scouting tournament in Nigeria
all the Eliteserien clubs and several Scandinavian teams had him as number one on the list of the tournament’s talents
We thought he was so exciting that we decided to invite him,” he said
“This is similar to the case we had with KP (Kparobo Ariheri)
where we secured the rights long before the player turned 18
“Akanji can only become eligible to play in the summer of 2026
but we have now made a club agreement that secures us the rights when he turns 18
we will invite him to several stays with us to start the integration phase and continue his development
“He is one of the most exciting talents in Nigeria right now
and we are very pleased to have this deal in place,”

United States defender Sam Rogers, who made his first international appearance for the national team earlier this year, has moved from Rosenborg SK to fellow Norwegian top-flight side Lillestrom SK, the club announced on Thursday.
According to a source with knowledge of the move
the transfer fee is $750,000 which could rise to $1 million if certain milestones are met
- Stream on ESPN+: LaLiga, Bundesliga, more (U.S.)
The move to Lillestrom marks the third Norwegian club that the 24-year-old has played for
He joined HamKam on loan from USL Championship side OKC Energy in 2021
and after helping the club get promoted to the Norwegian top flight
he followed manager Kjetil Rekdal to Rosenborg in 2022
Rogers made 41 league and cup appearances for Rosenborg
Rogers is a product of the Seattle Sounders academy
and started his professional career with the team's reserve side
he made a total of 64 league and cup appearances scoring three goals
Rogers made two appearances for the Sounders' first team in the U.S
Rogers made his lone appearance for the U.S. last January in a 0-0 draw with Colombia.
Lillestrom SK Director Reveals How They Secured Flying Eagles Striker
The director of the Norwegian club Lillestrom SK, Simon Mesfin, has revealed how they were able to wade off the interest of big clubs to secure the services of the Flying Eagles striker Kparobo Arierhi, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Scandinavian side on Saturday announced the arrival of the Nigerian International. Mesfin said the big clubs across Europe are still wondering how they can get his services.
"We have reached an agreement despite a strong competition with many big clubs in Europe".
"There are still clubs calling his agent and wondering how much LSK will pay for this great talent even before he has made his debut for the club".
" I have never come across that interest. But he will be allowed to continue his development here and score many goals for LSK before he will be allowed to be sold on," says Mesfin.
or a lack of desire to improve each and every department
It is not only in the boardroom where Manchester United look set to benefit from fresh faces and some invaluable expertise – Jason Wilcox
Dan Ashworth and Omar Berrada among the statement arrivals – but in the dressing room too
Ruud van Nistelrooy may have hogged most of the headlines – he is a bonafide Man United legend after all – but the appointment of fellow Dutchman Rene Hake could prove equally beneficial
Hake, a long-time friend of Erik ten Hag, walked away from his head coach role at Eredivisie overachievers Go Ahead Eagles to take on an assistant coach role in England
Andreas Georgson made a similar call when United came calling for him too
Read more: Who is Andreas Georgson? Man Utd looking to hire set piece specialist currently working as manager
Georgson was only six months into his managerial role at Lillestrom SK but jumped at the chance when offered the chance to revolutionise Man United’s set-piece planning
Sporting director Wilcox knows Georgson well from their time together at St Mary’s
Wilcox described the 42-year-old as a coach who ‘eats, breaths and sleeps set-pieces‘
and his arrival should only benefit a Man United team who scored only nine goals from dead-ball situations in the 2023/24 Premier League season
Georgson’s sudden nature of his departure from Lillestrom
has left the Norwegian outfit in an unwelcome state of limbo
The Canaries find themselves without a head coach ahead of Sunday’s clash with Sarpsborg
Georgson opting to fly the nest after only half a year in the post
“It’s always tough and difficult,” Sporting director Simon Mesfin tells VG. “But it’s especially very sad when you have a head coach that both the players and the support staff have become very fond of.
“He was well liked at the club and worked well with those he was supposed to work with. We saw a good future with him and then it is very annoying that this is happening.
“There is no crisis atmosphere in the club now, but we take it very seriously that we have to find out the way forward. We want to put a permanent solution in place as soon as possible. But putting a time perspective on it is difficult.”
Mesfin can take some pride, however, in the fact that Lillestrom found themselves a coach so well-respected that he would be earmarked to play a major – if behind-the-scenes – role in one of Europe’s A-list institutions.
“That coaches go to a bigger club is a small pat on the back for Lillestrom as well,” says club captain Gjermund Asen. “(Georgson’s move to Man United proves) that people are attractive here.
“You become quite good at adjusting as a footballer (to departures).”
Man United appear to be intent on adding extra height and physicality to a team that was often bullied by more imposing outfits last term. Their two summer signings – Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee – are both comfortably over 6ft, with Georgson’s expertise in both penalty areas another step in the right direction.
“Andreas Georgson will focus on individual development, fostering a winning culture, and set pieces,” Ten Hag says of the latest addition to his coaching staff.
“That’s his role. We’re pleased to have him and look forward to his contributions.”
Erik ten Hag kept his job as Manchester United boss but one thing was clear – a repeat of last season simply would not be tolerated
United have not only backed Ten Hag with new signings this summer but also changed the coaching team around him
United brought in Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake whilst Benni McCarthy and Mitchell van der Gaag moved on
Steve McClaren has become Jamaica boss and Jelle ten Rouwelaar is United’s new goalkeeping coach after replacing Richard Hartis
United have looked to freshen things up on and off the pitch with one deal seemingly sending another club into a tailspin
United pounced to land something of a coup by bringing in Andreas Georgson from Lillestrom
Georgson has arrived as a coach and has a major background in terms of set-piece speciality
Georgson emerged in the Malmo coaching setup before heading to Brentford and Arsenal
The Swede retured to Malmo in an upstairs role before becoming caretaker boss in 2022
only to end up back in England with Southampton
Lillestrom appointed Georgson as their new boss in 2024
meaning he had pretty much done it all – director
That is quite the background but Lillestrom were left stunned when Georgson quit his post as manager to become a coach at United
Lillestrom sporting director Simon Mesfin suggested that his exit was ‘difficult’ but would not prompt a crisis at the club
“It’s always tough and difficult,” said Mesfin
“But it’s especially very sad when you have a head coach that both the players and the support staff have become very fond of
He was well liked at the club and worked well with those he was supposed to work with
We saw a good future with him and then it is very annoying that this is happening.”
“There is no crisis atmosphere in the club now
but we take it very seriously that we have to find out the way forward
We want to put a permanent solution in place as soon as possible
But putting a time perspective on it is difficult,” he added
those comments haven’t particularly aged well
Lillestrom were hammered 4-0 at Rosenborg on Wednesday with Dagavisen suggesting that the club are now ‘in free fall’ and ‘dangerously close’ to the relegation zone
Lillestrom have picked up just one point from five matches
losing four whilst conceding 12 goals in the process
Lillestrom had won three in the previous four league games with Georgson at the helm
Interim boss Robin Asterhed is struggling and with VG claiming Lillestrom are now in ‘crisis’
it looks like Georgson is being sorely missed
Ten Hag had plenty of managerial experience around him last season
McCarthy and McClaren had been managers in their own right elsewhere but United actually snatched managers away from clubs just to work around Ten Hag
Hake quit his post as Go Ahead Eagles whilst Georgson traded the Lillestrom hot seat to support Ten Hag
Add in that Van Nistelrooy snubbed the chance to become Burnley boss and United have done great work adding coaches with recent managerial experience around Ten Hag
This will hopefully help United move forward and give Ten Hag a little more stability after a difficult campaign last season
Austin FC announced today that the Club has reached an agreement with Norwegian side Lillestrøm SK for the transfer of defender Ruben Gabrielsen
“Though it’s difficult to say goodbye to Austin FC
as a parent of a child who requires special care
returning to Lillestrøm and Norway is what’s best for me and my family at this time,” said Gabrielsen
“I’ll always have fantastic memories and friendships from the year I spent in Austin
and I want to thank the fanbase for their incredible support throughout the season
Gabrielsen played in 33 MLS regular season matches and all three (3) MLS Cup Playoff matches for Austin FC in 2022
tallying two (2) goals and two (2) assists
He was named to the MLS Team of the Week three (3) times
“We want to thank Ruben for his tremendous contributions to Austin FC,” said Austin FC Head Coach Josh Wolff
Ruben indicated that due to personal circumstances
returning to Norway was in the best interest of his family
we wish him well in the next step in his career
and he will always be welcomed with open arms in Austin.”
Gabrielsen spent 2009 to 2014 with Lillestrøm
initially joining the club as a 17-year-old and becoming its youngest-ever debutant in April 2009
Flying Eagles star striker Kparobo Arierhi
whose brace ensured Nigeria retained the WAFU B U20 Championship in Togo
will sign his first professional contract in January with Norwegian club Lillestrom SK
“We have agreed with the academy in Nigeria on a transfer which means that both (Kparobo and ex-Golden Eaglets defender Tochukwu Ogboji) will become LSK players from January,“ announced sporting director Simon Mesfin
first trained with Lillestrom in January 2024
He was the Flying Eagles biggest prospect when they again won the regional championship in Lome and this time at the expense of perennial rivals Ghana
He netted three goals at the U20 AFCON qualifying tournament – two in the final and the match winner that won Nigeria Group B at the expense of Cote d’Ivoire
The Beyond Limits Academy striker will now hope to follow in the footsteps of several top Nigerian talents who have left their mark at LSK like Jerome Akor and Anthony Ujah
Mesfin did not hide the fact that there are many big clubs out there who have already caught the eye of the forward talent who turns 18 in January
“We have reached an agreement in strong competition with many big clubs in Europe,” he admitted
“There are still clubs calling his agent and wondering how much LSK will pay for this great talent even before he has made his debut for the club
But he will be allowed to continue his development here and score many goals for LSK before he will be allowed to be sold on.”
The exciting young striker said LSK will be launch pad to playing for a top club in Europe
I have developed a lot since I was here last,” he said
“The goal is to become so good that I can eventually play for one of the top clubs in Europe.”
Seventeen-year-old Nigerian forward Kparabo Ariheri, a standout talent from Beyond Limits Football Academy
is on the cusp of an international breakthrough
as he prepares to officially sign a professional contract with Norway’s Lillestrøm SK upon turning 18 in January 2025

This move follows his recent signing of a pre-contract with the club
marking another high-profile success for Beyond Limits Academy
Ariheri’s path to this milestone has been filled with standout performances
including his role at the Viareggio Cup in Italy
where Beyond Limits made history as the first African team to claim the title
Ariheri drew the attention of European scouts after his performances for Nigeria at the AFCON U-20 tournament and his domestic achievements
Lillestrøm SK eagerly anticipates the young striker’s arrival
expecting him to bring his signature energy and skill to the team
This signing is part of a larger wave of Beyond Limits players making an impact in European football
who joined Inter Milan before going on loan to Sampdoria
is gaining a reputation as a talent pipeline for Nigerian footballers transitioning into international leagues
Ariheri’s journey highlights both his individual dedication and the influence of Beyond Limits in nurturing young talent for global success
As he takes this next step with Lillestrøm
he joins a select group of Nigerian youth players forging a presence in top European leagues
solidifying Beyond Limits’ role as a springboard for Nigerian players with professional aspirations
Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff has undergone a massive shakeup in the past few weeks. Earlier this month, United confirmed the arrivals of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake
The two essentially replaced Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy
United also hired goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar to succeed Richard Hartis
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s top priority heading into the 2024/25 campaign is to ensure United significantly improve on the pitch
as opposed to just clinching a top-four finish
Ratcliffe’s desire for United to perform better and have a clear style of play above all else could explain INEOS’ efforts to bolster the coaching set-up
Sportbladet now reveal that Andreas Georgson’s time in Lilleström “looks to be over” as he inches closer to joining United
“According to Sportbladet’s information
he is now in high demand for a role in Manchester United and could leave the Norwegian club if the last pieces fall into place.”
“He is now very much in the running for a role at Manchester United
where in that case he will be part of Erik ten Hag’s leadership team.”
“He has a couple of other big teams who also want his services if it doesn’t work out with United
but it is likely that he will leave Lilleström already within a few days.”
This information is backed by The Manchester Evening News who relay that United could activate a buyout clause in Georgson’s contract with Lillestrom that would see him leave their ranks after just eight months in charge.
United are expected to fork out £280,000 to pry Georgson from Lillestrom.
The Swedish coach took up his current role after spending the first half of last season as a set-piece coach at Southampton, where he worked with Jason Wilcox.
It’s believed that Wilcox is behind the move to lure Georgson to Old Trafford.
The 42-year-old has plenty of experience in English football, having worked as a set-piece specialist at Brentford, Arsenal and Southampton.
Georgson’s addition to United is certainly welcome. Last term, the Red Devils were particularly poor in set-pieces at both ends of the pitch.

The project was designed by Various Architects AS, commissioned by ROM Eiendom AS and The Norwegian National Railways.
The design of the building focuses on making a positive contribution to the surroundings. The project gives back to the city the area it takes away by providing a public green rooftop, which directly connects to the main square of the train station.

A TOP-FLIGHT match in Norway was abandoned after furious fans protested against VAR by throwing FISH CAKES onto the field
The game between Rosenborg, who beat Manchester United in a friendly this week
and Lillestrom was only 30 minutes in when the referee decided to call time on proceedings
Supporters had launched no less than FOUR protests during that time
tennis balls and even fish cakes were hurled onto the pitch in chaotic scenes
The game lasted just two minutes before players were taken off the field as fish cakes were thrown from the stands from both sets of fans
The savoury snacks were quickly picked up by ground staff
forcing players to return to the dressing room for a second time
They also held up a banner which read: “We never give up. VAR is going away.”
Fans from both sides were then warned over the intercom to stop throwing items from the stands.
But Lillestrom supporters ignored the orders and pelted the pitch with more tennis balls when the game got underway for a third time.
Players stayed on the pitch to clear to offending items
But Rosenborg’s home backers then joined in the protests and also threw tennis balls onto the field
This was a step too far for referee Rohit Saggi
who decided to call the game off completely
It now remains to be seen if Rosenborg and Lillestrom are punished by either the Norwegian FA or Fifa
visiting boss Andreas Georgson appeared to back the protests by saying: “It is almost historic
Rosenborg manager Alfred Johansson was less impressed
“We understand they have their point of view and attitudes
A spokesperson for the Lillestrom supporter’s group added: “I see it as a victory for those who want to abolish VAR
“It is surreal we live in a world where Rosenborg and Lillestrom fans agree on something
We are not fans of smoke on the field but we stand with the protests.”

Arierhi will sign a permanent contract with Lillestrøm when the transfer window reopens in January

Beyond Limits Academy’s teenage striking sensation, Kparobo Arierhi, has secured a four-year contract with Norwegian club Lillestrom Sports Club.
The deal had been in place for some time, awaiting his 18th birthday while he continued his development at Beyond Limits Football Academy.

Arierhi, often likened to a blend of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland due to his goal-scoring instincts, had an outstanding season. He emerged as the top scorer in the TCC League, netting 22 goals in just 15 games.
His prowess extended to international tournaments, where he scored five goals in five matches to help Beyond Limits clinch the prestigious Viareggio Cup. Additionally, he found the net four times in five appearances at the Gothia Cup in Sweden.
On the international stage, Arierhi was instrumental for the Flying Eagles at the WAFU U-20 Championship in Ghana last year, scoring twice in the final against the hosts to secure the title.
Now set to begin his European journey, the young striker is poised to make an impact at Lillestrom.
Ineos chose to back Erik ten Hag rather than sack him over the summer
but were adamant about altering the staff around him
Out went Mitchell van der Gaag, Benni McCarthy and Steve McClaren as Manchester United made big coaching moves
Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy arrived to assist Ten Hag whilst another Dutchman joined in goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar
The changes didn’t really help though as United sacked Ten Hag in October following a disappointing start to the season
Hake and Van Nistelrooy have now left United whilst Ten Rouwelaar’s time at Old Trafford has also come to an end
One man who is actually staying at United under new boss Ruben Amorim is Andreas Georgson
The Swedish coach arrived as a coach at United having built up a reputation as a set-piece specialist over the years
Jason Wilcox is a huge fan of Georgson having worked together at Southampton and the pair reunited at Old Trafford
United’s move for Georgson left Lillestrom in the lurch as he ditch his role as manager of the Norwegian side in favour of coaching at United
Lillestrom rued Georgson’s exit at the time as they lost their manager in unexpected circumstances
We looked into Lillestrom’s form in August as they were ‘in crisis’ following Georgson’s exit
The situation has become even worse though with Lillestrom now on the verge of relegation from Norway’s top flight
Georgson was confirmed as a United coach on July 26th and Lillestrom have played 14 league games since that date
Lillestrom have taken just five points from a possible 42 and sit six points adrift of the relegation play-offs with two games to play
Factor in a much worse goal difference than 14th placed Haugesund and Lillestrom appear doomed
After six wins in 14 to start the season under Georgson
Lillestrom are set to drop out of the top flight with Georgson’s exit undoubtedly a huge factor
Georgson is clearly valued highly by Ineos and especially Wilcox
It’s no coincidence that the Dutch contingent of United’s staff have left the club following the exit of compatriot Ten Hag
Georgson is likely to remain overseeing set pieces under Amorim and he has outlined his responsibilities at United
Speaking to Skane Sport just last week
Georgson noted that he has been focused on set pieces and throw-ins
Georgson added that he is looking to be involved in an ‘individual development program’ moving forward
The Swede feels that players don’t always love set piece training
but it’s a necessity in the modern game with so many goals coming from dead balls
Georgson feels calm and happy in Manchester too
leaving him feeling that leaving Lillestrom was the right decision
“My first special expertise is set pieces and throw-ins and that is also what we have prioritised during the first period
That’s where I have a unique knowledge bank and a unique method – which has worked in all clubs,” said Georgson
we have also laid the foundation for the individual development program and our identity as a team
and slowly I have also started those processes
But everyone knows that a third of goals are scored on set pieces
I’d rather practice fixed situations with full attention for ten minutes than for two hours without commitment
These are details that can statistically decide five table positions up or down
I’m at a great club and love the job and life in Manchester
I have realised that the most important thing is that I am in a place where the family is happy and where I enjoy work tasks and colleagues
there is no timetable or more career steps that I dream of right now,” he added
and which first opened in october 2016.

the character of the building is influenced by the surrounding context with its exposed and raw materials such as concrete
fair faced concrete is used for internal floors and walls

the timber beams are exposed in the interior to define the curvature of the roof
the building is also conceived for minimal energy consumption
additional lighting is not necessary thanks to natural sunlight; at night

More fancy shed than Four Seasons, the Lillestrøm Bicycle Hotel lets commuters pay a small monthly fee to safely store bicycles indoors while they’re at work or out of town. Norwegian National Railways commissioned Oslo firm Various Architects to build it, but there are several other bike hotels throughout Norway. Lillestrøm just happens to boast the largest one yet; its hotel can sleep 400 bicycles at a time.
From the outside, the Lillestrøm Bicycle Hotel looks like a giant light box. A ramp runs diagonally up one side, leading to a public patch of greenery on the rooftop. “We thought it would be important to give back to the city the area we took away,” says Ibrahim Elhayawan, the partner at Various Architects who led the project.
Cute moniker aside, bicycle hotels are serious---and seriously useful---pieces of urban infrastructure. Like bike lanes and bike bridges, they make it easier for people to choose cycling over driving. That behavior makes cities healthier.
But they also go a step further, by protecting bicycles and the people who ride them. The Lillestrøm Bicycle Hotel, for instance, stays lit throughout the night---a crucial safety feature, especially for women cyclists. Using it costs 50 Krone ($7.16) per month. “That’s as much as two cans of Coke,” Elhayawan says. “And the salaries in Norway are quite high.” In other words: it’s a small price to pay for a healthier, safer commute.

After replacing Benni McCarthy and Mitchell van der Gaag with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake, Manchester United could be set to make another hire to the coaching staff
Norwegian outlet Nettavisen report an ‘agreement is close’ for Manchester United to hire Andreas Georgson as another assistant coach
United are prepared to meet a small buyout clause in Andreas Georgson’s current contract with Norwegian side Lillestrom
Andreas Georgson has been working as the manager at Norwegian club Lillestrom
He was previously working as a set piece coach for Southampton
and has experience at two other Premier League clubs
began his coaching career with Swedish side Malmo
He was then hired by Brentford for the 2019/20 season
where he helped them reach the play-off final
He was then poached to join Arsenal for the 2021/22 season
He joined Southampton in 2023 – before being tempted away by the manager’s job at Lillestrom
His role at all three clubs was working as a set piece coach, and according to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet
this is part of the role he will conduct at Manchester United
Georgson’s Lillestrom rank eight in the Norwegian Eliteserien
There is a clear connection to Manchester United technical director Jason Wilcox
who hired Georgson for Southampton a year ago
The role of set piece coach is one United are looking to fill. This was part of the remit of Eric Ramsay
who left earlier in 2024 to take the manager job at MLS side Minnesota United
The move for Georgson is another smart move from Ineos
bringing in a coach for a role who already has experience
who should be a very useful addition for the Red Devils
Last season Manchester United scored only nine goals from set pieces

SCORENigeria has scooped that former Golden Eaglets defender Tochukwu Ogboji
who caused Nigeria to be ousted from last year’s U17 AFCON
has a pre-contract in place with Norwegian club Lillestrom
who scored an own goal and also caused a penalty against Burkina Faso for the Golden Eaglets to be eliminated 2-1 in the quarterfinal of the 2023 U17 AFCON in Algeria
is set to sign a pro contract when he turns 18 on December 15
A source familiar with this transaction told SCORENigeria:”The boy is shuttling between Norway and Nigeria now and hopefully when he clocks 18

Russian Grand Prix rider Maria Klementieva was disqualified from competing at the 2020 CDI Lillestrøm after her groom was reported whipping one of Klementieva's horses in the stable
The 2020 CDI Lillestrøm took place in Norway on 14 - 16 February 2020
Russian Maria Klementieva was entered with two horses at this event: the 12-year old American bred Hanoverian stallion Doctor Wendell MF (by Don Principe x Sandro Hit) and the 9-year old Holsteiner gelding Champagner (by Catoo x Aljano)
Eurodressage contacted Lillestrøm show director Eirik Berentsen as well as the president of the ground jury
immediately after the show for further information about the incident
Both replied that official statements would be issued soon
neither have forward with an official statement or detailed information about the incident
the FEI confirmed Klementieva's disqualification to Eurodressage
When asked why no Yellow Card was issued to Klementieva for "Abuse of Horse" as the "Person Responsible," the FEI spokesperson responded:
The President of the Ground Jury spoke to the Russian Dressage athlete Maria Klementieva immediately after becoming aware of her groom’s behaviour and mistreatment of the horse
Grooms are not currently registered with the FEI
therefore we do not have jurisdiction to sanction the groom directly
the Ground Jury correctly advised the athlete that
she and the horse had been disqualified from competing at the Event
The athlete accepted the disqualification and also accepted that the actions of her groom warranted the sanction
grooms are often pushed forward as the facilitator for "contaminating" a horse with medication or banned substances
it is always the rider who is considered the "Person Responsible" in such matters and sanctioned by the FEI
According to the FEI in these cases involving a groom

AMSTERDAM – Michael Stephens notched an assist for the third straight Tippeligaen round on Saturday
but it came on a mere consolation goal in 10-man Stabæk's 5-1 defeat at Lillestrøm
the former LA Galaxy midfielder set up Luc Kassi to get them on the board 11 minutes from time
Stephens breached the area from the left channel
racing to the touchline for a short cutback pass that would take him into a third place tie on the league assists chart
The result snapped a three-game win streak

Lillestrom players celebrate after winning the Norwegian Cup. Trond Tandberg/Getty ImagesA Norwegian football player has been criticised for disrespecting the domestic cup trophy after posing naked on stage and using it to cover his modesty
After Lillestrom beat Sarpsborg 08 3-2 in the Norwegian Cup final on Sunday
defender Aleksander Melgalvis Andreassen stripped naked during the team celebrations and covered himself with the trophy
It was seemingly a reference to a similar stunt by Rosenborg forward Christian Gytkjaer after winning the Norwegian league title last year
but did not go down well with the country's FA
"Winning the cup is a big thing and obviously it should be celebrated. But it is fully possible to do so without showing the King's Cup and what it represents so little respect," the Norwegian FA's communications director, Yngve Haavik, told TV2
"I am sure it wasn't intentional from Melgalvis but it came out the wrong way regardless
I think Melgalvis and Lillestrom agree with that."
Melgalvis himself said he could understand the criticism but insisted he had no regrets
"Of course I can understand that [people thought] it was a bit over the top. I'll admit that and apologise, but it is not something I regret," he told Verdens Gang
"I was so privileged to get to greet the king yesterday
so maybe I'll have to apologise to him today."

For Danish Olympian Anna Kasprzak the competition weekend in Lillestrom
After winning their international Grand Prix debut
she had to withdraw her new ride from the Freestyle due to an injury
purchased the 11-year old Russian warmblood Fuhur (by Furstenreich x Nagnat) for Anna to have an Olympic hopeful at the ready for Tokyo
The horse was previously trained and competed by Russian Elena Sidneva
Kasprzak and Fuhur made their show debut and won the Grand Prix class with 74.467%
The 2020 CDI Lillestrøm was the pair's international debut and in a field of 11 riders they took the victory with 71.587%
Unfortunately the next day the pair had to withdraw from the freestyle as the horse injured himself overnight in the stall
"He was rolling in the stable and got his hindleg stuck in between the bars," Anna explained
"He pulled of his shoe and got a big skin scratch
Hopefully it is only superficial but we will make a scan next week."
The horse sustained a superficial scratch but will be checked if there is no further injury
