OverviewResourcesOverviewThe schools are St Albans Catholic School (Christchurch)
St Joseph's School (Papanui) and St Patrick's School (Bryndwr)
This is to assist the Boards of these schools to manage situations where there is more demand for enrolments than there are places available within their maximum roll
provide a fair and transparent processes for enrolment and to ensure we are making the best use of schooling facilities across the Catholic Education Network in Christchurch
Purpose and principles of an enrolment scheme – New Zealand Legislation
How this applies to a State integrated school – New Zealand Legislation
more applicants for enrolment at a State integrated school than there are places available
the Ministry of Education must establish an enrolment scheme for the school
State integrated schools are not required to have a home zone but must accord priority to applicants for whom the school is a reasonably convenient school
These proposed enrolment schemes identify areas of reasonable convenience for each school in the form of Primary and Secondary Qualifying Parishes
It is proposed that applicants who reside in a Primary Qualifying Parish will be prioritised above applicants who reside in a Secondary Qualifying Parish and these applicants will be prioritised above applicants who live outside a Qualifying Parish
This is a format that has been consulted upon and agreed with the Catholic Education Office
We are not consulting on the enrolment scheme for Christ the King School (Burnside)
An enrolment scheme for this school commenced in 2023
Close image modalThese enrolment scheme amendments are proposed to commence from 1 January 2026
Note that all students who are already enrolled at these schools before the enrolment scheme amendments commence are entitled to stay at the school at which they are currently enrolled
The proposals for St Albans Catholic School (Christchurch) and St Patrick's School (Bryndwr) include an "Additional Entitlement to Enrol" provision
This provision proposes that preference applicants who are siblings of students enrolled at the date that the enrolment scheme amendment is implemented by the school's Board will be considered as if they reside within the school’s catchment
Read the details of this provision within the proposed enrolment schemes and provide specific feedback if this affects you
This provision is not proposed for St Joseph's School (Papanui) as the school's first priority catchment area is unchanged
It is important that we hear and understand community perspectives before we establish these enrolment scheme amendments
especially the design of the enrolment categories and priorities
This consultation process is about enrolment schemes

A heavily pregnant woman fought off three teenage boys who were trying to rob her while one pointed an imitation pistol at her head
and another stabbed her in the leg during a drug deal gone wrong
While the woman believed the pistol pointed at her was real
as protective instincts kicked in with her baby’s safety at the forefront of her mind
“I think if I wasn’t pregnant to be honest it wouldn’t have been much of a fight
it was more me fighting for my baby to be honest,” she told NZME
admitted setting up fake online profiles to organise cannabis deals before he and his associates
attacked their victims including stabbing the woman who was nine months pregnant
appeared at the High Court at Christchurch where he pleaded guilty to one charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two charges of aggravated robbery
Glintmeyer used a fake Facebook profile called “Cody Flyer” to organise a cannabis deal with the 28-year-old woman
He instructed her to park her car on the side of the road in Bryndwr
admitted having a “weird feeling” as soon as she pulled up to the agreed meeting spot
as the person was taking “so long” to meet her
one of whom was armed with an imitation Glock pistol
approached her car wearing full face masks
One boy spoke to the woman from the driver’s side of the car and demanded she hand over her car keys and money
while the boy holding the imitation pistol got into the passenger seat and pointed the pistol at the woman
The woman described hearing the gun first before it was pointed at her head
She said two boys were at the driver’s side trying to “rip me out” of the car while others yelled to grab her car keys
The boy holding the imitation pistol struck the woman in the head with the pistol before stealing a $20 note and some cannabis from her
Glintmeyer then approached the car and stabbed the woman in her right thigh
The woman admitted she hadn’t even realised she had been stabbed at the time
“I remember trying to fight them off and I felt like he had punched me in the leg
I was more trying to protect my tummy because I was two weeks away from giving birth,” she said
The woman said she thinks the boys got scared when the car alarm went off and they ran away
She climbed out of the car to grab her keys which had been dropped on the road
It wasn’t until she stood up and felt blood trickling down her leg that she saw what had happened
“I felt something running down my leg and then I look down on the ground and see a pile of blood on the concrete
People who had heard the commotion came out to the street to help the woman
“I yelled out ‘Can you please call an ambulance
An ambulance took her to the hospital where she received stitches and staff checked that her baby was okay
The woman said it was difficult to walk on her right leg and needed her partner’s help for things such as getting dressed
Five days later she gave birth to a healthy baby boy
While the woman said it was a “very scary” experience
she thought that Glintmeyer and his associates needed help
“The one that stabbed me yeah I think he just was really not in the right headspace and think he just needed some help.”
The day after Glintmeyer and his associates robbed the woman they were communicating through Snapchat
discussing the previous night’s robbery and orgainsing another
Glintmeyer used a second Facebook profile he owned called “Gaggles Goodies” to contact another person to organise the sale of cannabis
A 37-year-old man arrived in Bryndwr and pulled over as instructed
Glintmeyer and his associates approached the car wearing full face masks
One boy climbed into the passenger seat and pointed the imitation pistol at the man’s head while Glintmeyer and two others opened the drivers door and one of them began to hit the man
The boy holding the imitation pistol began to strike the man on his head with the pistol
The man managed to grab his backpack and run away
Glintmeyer and two others then drove away in the man’s car
The man suffered abrasions to the back of his head and face
His car was recovered by a member of the public in Parklands but his cellphone was missing
Glintmeyer was remanded in custody at a youth facility until his sentencing on February 20

“just friends” Keeva Irving and Nathan Lewis got together about five years ago to buy a house which they sold last week for $300,000 profit on the purchase price
enough to make a big difference for their respective home ownership paths
cost them $550,000 in 2017 and sold last week at auction for $850,000
Irving is Irish and Lewis is Welsh but Irving told OneRoof both are residents and both work in project management
the pair put their business hats on to conduct extensive research before the subsequent purchase of their house
which they lived in together and sometimes with flatmates to accommodate their separate travels
Irving says they each saved like crazy for the deposit and they specifically wanted to buy in an area with good schools and good resale
“We literally got the white board and a cork board out and we had a map of Christchurch and we drew around the school zones
here and here and we’re flexible on those areas’.”
Each listed their wants – she wanted a log burner and a garden – and cross referenced against areas
“It was quite hard because we had a lot of people say to us it won’t work and it could get complicated and everything like this so we were quite aware it was a business decision
“We had to remove a certain amount of emotion and there would be times when he’d be travelling and I would take on the responsibility and vice versa.”
Irving says they did not have a watertight legal agreement
saying they were told because they were not a couple they would have been affected by the bright-line test if one of them wanted to buy out the other
But they each made their will which involved having a conversation about what would happen if one of them died and the result was an agreement that one person would have first option to buy the other out
Sometimes there were difficult conversations over the years and sometimes it was difficult to work out the financial split exactly when one of them was travelling
but Irving says it has worked out around 50/50 and they have not had a cross word
They remortgaged last year to take out $60,000 each and Irving says with the sale of the house each of them will get around $140,000 once the legal fees and commission are taken out
That is money each can use for their current properties – she has bought with a partner and Lewis is building with a partner
Her advice for anyone contemplating buying with a friend is to make sure there is mutual trust
“Don’t just go in with someone because they’ve got some money
You have to be able to have those difficult conversations but continue the friendship
and you have to be able to pull your weight and know they’ll do theirs and look after each other and be open and honest financially.”
The pair both had full control over the finances and also had a kitty of money so if something needed doing
they could access the kitty and get it done
general manager of sales for Bayleys Christchurch
said not many friends bought together but Irving and Lewis had an exceptional trust level to make the deal work
I think you’ve got to have very good friendship and you’ve got to have a good financial understanding
“You’ve got obligations to the bank and when people are coming in and out
Dovey acknowledges it is probably easier for first-home buyers to get on the housing ladder in Christchurch because prices are lower than in Auckland and other centres
“The median sales price is in the $700,000s so technically a 10% deposit is a lot cheaper than $1m sale which is $100,000
“We do see a lot of young people who own property here and values have gone up so some of those people bought at $400,000 or $500,000.”

Age Concern Canterbury team leader for elder abuse and neglect Carla Sheehan is calling for older people to be given the option to live together in separate housing complexes to younger people
“Grouping the older people together would be better
It’s better for their socialisation and their social engagement
She said the number of calls Age Concern has received from elderly saying they feel concerned for their safety has increased by about 20 and 30 per cent in the last year
Bob Cuttance is 80 and lives at the Aorangi Courts social housing complex in Bryndwr
which is run by the Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust
He is often afraid for his safety due to drug use by some of his neighbours and their visitors and other unsettling behaviour
He supports the idea of separate housing for older people and said this should be considered whether anyone has suggested it to the trust or not
Said Cuttance: “I’ve been here about seven years and I’ve seen some weird people here but I’ve never felt this insecure before
“The people that they have here are getting their highs
try to open people's doors and walk in uninvited
“That was the thing that quite frightened me,” he said
Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust senior housing advisor Bob Hardie said the trust had not been made aware of Age Concern’s position on community housing
Hardie said six people have complained to it about behaviour at Aorangi Courts in the last year
He said Cuttance has complained three times since November last year relating to visitors to the complex and these complaints were acted on
“ŌCHT subsequently issued trespass notices to the visitors causing a nuisance
and tenancy breach notices have been issued to identified tenants in relation to nuisance caused by their visitors,” he said
But Cuttance said those who have been trespassed continue to visit the complex and can not be made to leave again if they are inside units at it
Said Hardie: “ŌCHT can trespass visitors from common areas and spaces but ŌCHT cannot trespass visitors from occupied units
Only a tenant can do this (if it is their unit)
He feels someone in the complex will have to hurt themselves or someone else before something is done
Hardie said ŌCHT considers relocation of problem tenants when appropriate but it prefers to “help resolve the underlying causes of any behavioural issues where possible.”
Cuttance believes the behaviour of the tenants he is concerned about and their visitors has not improved and the best option is for the trust to find them new housing
Said Sheehan: “There’s a lot more drug use and drug-related incidents and violence happening.”
In 2019 one of her clients was assaulted “two or three times” by a younger female neighbour and was hospitalised with facial injuries
The victim was moved from the complex she was living in to a flat
which was more expensive and difficult for her to afford
Sheehan said: “I just had a call yesterday
an elderly man ringing because he’s in social housing and the neighbour is threatening to assault him and physically harm his dog.”
She also had calls about elderly people getting asked for money by other social housing residents and damage being caused to their properties and vehicles
CCS Disability Action Christchurch service manager for family and youth
said disabled social housing complex residents have also reported feeling unsafe
stolen from and had her wheelie bins deliberately moved in the three years she has lived in her accommodation
received a death threat from one of her neighbours two years ago but said this was not enough for their requests to be moved into new housing to be acted on
“We’ve had two neighbours who have moved out because of how horrendous it is,” the woman said
It has taken one-and-a-half-years for her and her daughter to reach the top of the waiting list for new housing
She hopes they will be moved into new accommodation in February
Police say they have not had an increase in calls from social housing residents concerned about their neighbours’ behaviour in the last year
But Sergeant Jim Currie said this does not mean there has not been an increase
just that people may not have reported problems to police
He said if people are scared for their safety they should call police
but it is ultimately up to the organisations which run social housing complexes to decide if people’s behaviour is bad enough to evict them
which helps former homeless people find places to live
conceded a small number of its clients tend to behave badly once housed
there are not that many houses to go around for people
so it’s important that when they get one they stay in one.”

Reeves told NZME police were still treating Bao as a "missing person"
"The concern continues to grow the longer that we don’t know where she is."
The houses that were being searched were "places of interest" as a result of inquiries to date
"Some of this is to rule places in as parts of interest
and sometimes it’s actually to rule places out as locations of interest."
Police have to date searched three properties - one on Iroquois Place where Bao’s car was found
another property in Bryndwr where the alleged kidnapper lived
Several people are "assisting" police with the investigation

was granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody to appear on August 15
His lawyer said the man’s family had not been informed about his arrest
posted on her Facebook page that she had last spoken to Bao

"We are now interested to hear from any members of the public who might have been travelling on the motorway on Wednesday and noticed anything out of the ordinary
is encouraged to contact police immediately
"Police have also been conducting door-to-door inquiries in the area she was last seen
"If you live in this area and have not spoken with police but have access to CCTV footage of the street area
"I would like to reiterate that police and Ms Bao’s family are deeply concerned for her safety
and her loved ones are desperate to hear from her and know she is safe."
Gooch also prepared a statement which was provided to media
