Idaho — The Homedale School District is asking voters to approve a 10-year plant facility levy at $950,000 per year
The proposed levy will replace an existing levy that expires next summer and decrease the cost to taxpayers if passed
(Below is the transcript from the broadcast story)
The Homedale School District is asking voters to replace its existing plant facility levy
with a new levy that will fund facilities for 10 years
"The Homedale School District does not have a supplemental levy
like many of the districts in the state of Idaho do
So the plant facilities is incredibly important for us," says Homedale School District Superintendent Rob Sauer
and bathrooms built in the 1950s that would be updated if the levy passes
"Two of our schools were primarily built in the 1940s and 1950s and with that there comes some replacement costs
We are not looking to build a new elementary
a new high school or new middle school," says Sauer
With parts of Homedale schools being more than 80 years old
is in need of roof repairs and the elementary school could use a new coat of paint
The current levy costs taxpayers $170 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value per year
The proposed levy would decrease that number to about $119 per $100,000 of assessed value
people would actually be paying less than they're paying now
hopefully they recognize that the Homedale School District
our board of trustees are good stewards of the dollar," says Sauer
"We're taking care of the schools that we have
So our students deserve to be educated in facilities that are well-maintained and well-taken care of
A fire investigator may return to the scene of a large residential fire in Rotorua on Saturday morning as investigations into the cause of the blaze continue
Police and Fire and Emergency NZ staff were alerted of a fire at a property on Homedale St about 12.55pm
Both emergency service organisations have confirmed they have opened investigations into the fire
Earlier a Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said two fire appliances were initially sent to the scene
The house was "well-involved" when crews arrived
but all occupants of the house were accounted for
She said a fire investigator was at the scene
Flames and black smoke were billowing from the house as fire crews battled the blaze
A Homedale St resident told the Rotorua Daily Post she was two houses away and could feel the heat from the fire
"I didn't realise until I saw some workmen from down the road running towards it," she said
"The house was fully ablaze and there was smoke pouring out the doors and windows
it's an elderly woman who lives there and we've been neighbours for years."
Another resident said he was sitting on his balcony having a cigarette when he saw a lady out on the road
"She went to go back in and that's when she noticed the smoke and flames," he said
It was a serious fire and now it looks like a family has lost their home and all their belongings."
said he'd known the owner of the house for seven or eight years
residents in the house next door turned their own hoses on to the blaze
"I hope it's something I never have to see again."

Idaho — The Homedale Police Department says a suspect is in custody following a drive-by shooting earlier this week
but they believe the shooting was connected to another incident that took place several hours earlier in another town
The 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody and is being held on a million-dollar bond
Police have confirmed there is no outstanding threat to the public and thank everyone who helped identify and locate the suspect
luck probably has nothing to do with Sugar-Salem’s success on the football field
The Diggers played in their seventh consecutive state title game on Saturday and won their sixth championship
It wasn’t a perfect performance as some Sugar-Salem games tend to be
and it never is against a tough Homedale team
But it was the type of game that proves why the Diggers are indeed a dynasty that doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon
There was an early Homedale touchdown that put the Diggers in a hole
But by the end of the rain-drenched afternoon
the Diggers’ powerful running game took over and the defense did the rest in the fourth quarter
It was Sugar-Salem’s third consecutive title
“It’s amazing,” said senior Dawson McInelly
who ran for 151 yards and three touchdowns
He wasn’t alone as Abe Baldwin ran for 165 yards and Kooper Mace added 129 yards
Sugar-Salem piled up 454 yards on the ground and needed every one of them as Homedale got on the board first when Luke Henry caught a scoring pass from Xavier Uranga for the 7-0 lead
The Diggers tied it up on a seven-yard touchdown run by McInelly
It was McInelly again with 6:37 left in the half with a 43-yard scamper into the end zone to put the Diggers up 14-7
which had success early with short passes and screens
was slowed by the Sugar-Salem defense for the rest of the half
The Diggers (9-2) had a chance to add to their lead in the closing minutes of the half
but a controversial offensive pass interference call in the red zone pushed Sugar-Salem back to mid-field and led to an eventual turnover on downs
“We knew at the start of the game there was going to be those ups and downs so we had a mindset that we had to stay positive the whole game and keep grinding,” McInelly said
The Homedale defense stopped McInelly on a fourth-and 2 inside the five-yard line
The Trojans again stopped the Diggers with an interception in the end zone and then marched downfield and scored on a perfect strike from Uranga to Rafa Cuenca over the middle for a 62-yard score that tied it up at 14-14 at the end of the third quarter
Coach Tyler Richins noted that even in a tight game
“Not losing our identity and not losing who we are and what put us where we’re at,” Richins said of the team’s rushing prowess
“Continuing with what works and what’s been working
Get behind those big linemen and get some big runs.”
the game remained tied until the Digger defense capitalized on a Homedale fumble in the end zone with 10:34 left
who was hit by Ben Aldrich in the end zone
The ball popped out and was recovered by Latrell Markle for the go-ahead score
“I saw the ball go and I was like ‘Well that’s my shot
You just want to do the best you can to help your team.”
McInelly capped the game with a 14-yard touchdown run with three minutes left
“We feel very fortunate,” Richins said of the team’s run of state titles
noting that many of the current players were 10 or 11 when the program won its first title
“That is just a testament to these young kids coming through these programs and saying ‘I want to be there some day,’” Richins said
“We’re seeing the fruits of that with our youth programs and kids coming up through the ranks and dreaming big and wanting to be on that stage some day.”

Idaho Transportation Department
Idaho drivers should expect delays beginning Wednesday near Homedale
as the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will apply a sealcoat to five miles of State Highway 19
This project will extend the life of the roadway
Highway 95 Junction in Homedale will be reduced to one lane in the direct area crews are working
with the lane closure moving as work progresses
Vehicles parked along the route will need to be moved prior to work beginning
Flaggers and a pilot car will help guide traffic through the project area
work will be limited to weekdays from Monday through Thursday
The project is expected to be completed in August
It’s important for motorists to plan ahead this summer by checking traffic impacts on their route at 511.idaho.gov
In Matt Holtry’s 16 years of coaching high school football in Homedale
he needed to pack two jerseys – one for offense and the other for defense – for just one player
So when it came time to retire Scott Matlock’s number this summer, Homedale had to decide which jersey number would go in the rafters: 44 or 99? Drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the sixth round last year
Little did Matlock – or anybody – know then that a few months later he would don the number once again
“It was kind of surreal that happened the way it did,” Holtry told USA TODAY Sports
Matlock is still playing on the Chargers’ defensive line and contributing on special teams
but he’s emerged as a mainstay in the team’s offense under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman
signaling he’d have a greater role in the offense
Matlock has been on the field for 37% of the Chargers’ offensive snaps
compared to 18% of defensive plays (he also plays more than half the time on special teams)
for any real competition in that department
they’ve definitely been fun,” Matlock told USA TODAY Sports
Matlock knows that better than many people with more life experience
His journey is not only one of defense to offense
but from foster care to unheralded college football prospect to NFL draft pick
Forging through tragedy – and realizing a football dreamMatlock’s father, Doug, died from cancer when Scott was 9
Matlock found his mother dead on the couch after she succumbed to heart disease
With his older brother Steven at the University of Idaho as a freshman offensive lineman
Scott Matlock entered the state’s foster care system
He eventually wound up with Mike and Donna Marose of Homedale
about 45 miles away from where Matlock grew up in Boise
Before Matlock began his freshman year at Homedale
Donna set up a meeting with the new family and Holtry
You could tell this was not part of his plan.”
Matlock was skinny and awkward on the junior varsity football field; the coaches called him “bambi.” The potential was there
There was hope he would grow into his frame
Holtry could tell Matlock was destined for something beyond being a good small-town high school football player
He would practice pass rush moves on the pillars in Homedale’s hallway
He was always talking about football,” Holtry said
Sometime around spring of his sophomore year
Donna was upset and threatened to take away football and transfer him to a different school
“They held him to a high standard and they had expectations for him,” Holtry said
“They were going to make sure that he was doing the right things and being the right person
Matlock knows he wouldn’t have made it through that trying time in his life without the Maroses
Matlock’s ability to play multiple positions dates back to Homedale
Holtry’s strategy with Matlock on the field was simple enough: put him at the point of attack
H-back and all five offensive line positions
“The kid literally was like the Swiss-Army knife of high school football,” Holtry said
“and it’s awesome to see that this is the story that’s unfolding at the NFL level
Harbaugh is somebody Holtry has followed since he coached at the University of San Diego two decades ago
The foundations of their offense – the power and counter-iso scheme – are similar
Holtry placed a call to his teammate at Boise State
The school didn’t offer a scholarship right away
Idaho State and the University of Idaho came through with offers of their own
Boise State told Matlock there was a scholarship with his name on it
“It was definitely a dream come true,” Matlock said
At Boise State, the coaches called the package “Clydesdales.” The big bodies from the defensive line would run onto the field to provide the heft to help the Broncos in short-yardage situations
who became the Broncos’ head coach in 2021
“You know what time it is,” he’d tell Avalos
now the defensive coordinator at Texas Christian
“Because you knew what you were getting out of those dudes on the field.”
Matlock showed up to Boise State at 240 pounds
he molded himself into a dominating physical presence
What Avalos misses about coaching Matlock is that “he just brings a vibe in the hardest of times – training and preparation – that you just love.” He works hard without making it difficult for those around him
“I don’t care what locker room you put that guy in,” Avalos said
“He’s going to die for the cause – to do what’s right for the team.”
By the time his senior season arrived in 2022
Matlock worked his way onto the Bednarik and Outland Trophy watch lists after a seven-sack campaign the year prior
He caught a touchdown against Utah State in 2021 and did the same on Senior Day in 2022
which became one of his favorite college memories
his football IQ is extremely high,” Avalos said
Matlock could distinguish a run or pass play from his three-point pass before the ball was snapped
After he did that all game against Air Force
the academy's future opponents hit Matlock up for weeks on social media to figure out how he did it
But his biggest impact came by simply entering the game
former Boise State offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tim Plough said
“Just him being around those guys in the huddle instantly improved our mentality down there
and so we were much better in those situations,” Plough
The Broncos coaching staff could line Matlock up in the backfield to be the lead blocker or put him in-line at tight end to dominate the edge if there was a matchup they liked
and we would basically just run behind him,” Plough said
No one expected him to be involved in the pass game
but the coaching staff was certainly aware of his athleticism – even beyond the football field
Avalos said his “loose hips” made him one of the best golfers he’s ever seen
But catching passes in the NFL from Justin Herbert (Matlock has one reception for seven yards)
“Seeing him do that now is not shocking,” Plough said
“Seeing him have success is not shocking.”
For Matlock to have the physical capability is one thing
Matlock would return to the football coaches’ offices after class Monday or Tuesday and watch the five or six plays he needed to learn on tape
he’d sprint from one side to the other for his package of plays during the offensive goal-line period
the offense would raise its level of play because they had someone driving them with that mentality
We’re going to get this done.’ That was infectious
Maybe Matlock took Travis Kelce a little too literally
Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ defeat of the Chargers last October
“You know what it is?” the nine-time Pro Bowler told Matlock in a conversation captured by microphones
“Understand the other side of the ball just as well as you know your side of the ball.”
The joke of Matlock playing offense first popped up when former Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, a fellow Boise State product, told reporters questioning the team’s tight-end production “maybe we’ve got something here.”
and suddenly no one was laughing at the idea of Matlock on offense
“There may have been some juking around in training camp
they knew I played that package in college and I caught two touchdown passes and had some good hands.”
Matlock juggles his different hats every morning
There’s a special teams meeting somewhere in there and walkthroughs for that unit
He practices mostly with the defensive line but also mixes in repetitions with the offense
“It’s a lot more than in college,” said Matlock
who is now responsible for mastering an entire playbook at the professional level – not exactly the same as five plays to memorize for Mountain West opponents
Roman converted another former defensive lineman into an offensive player with the Baltimore Ravens in Patrick Ricard
the four-time Pro Bowl fullback who dabbled as a two-way threat early in his career
and it’s amazing how he’s handling it,” Roman said in September
“I can’t speak enough about how diligently he’s preparing
which is similar to the position he played in Holtry’s scheme back in Homedale
“I don’t think (Roman) was all too against doing it,” Matlock said
It just kind of built up from there into what it is
Matlock stood in the beating sun for 45 minutes to sign everything the kids in attendance handed him
Matlock could have quit or made excuses given everything he went through as a child and nobody would have thought twice
Steven Matlock has lived with Scott Matlock since the latter’s junior year at Boise State
Matlock said his big brother is his inspiration
“He’s been my rock for a while,” Matlock said
Matlock served on the leadership council at Boise State
often revolved around “have to versus want to.”
“He had that mindset with everything he did
“The adversity that has shaped him would break a lot of people,” Plough said
“All it did for him was make him such a strong individual and someone who’s able to go through adversity and overcome it.”
Matlock recorded 15 tackles and one quarterback hit in 12 games
“I still got GMs and D-line coaches in the NFL that are like
How Matlock made it to this point is something he asks himself
