Point Chevalier’s new modular library has a revised opening date of October 2025 The date change is due to a range of factors which include additional time needed for the resource consent as well as increased timeframes required for the build Albert-Eden Local Board Chair Kendyl Smith says it’s disappointing news for the board and the Point Chev community we’ll continue to work with our wider partners and stakeholders to activate the town centre where we can The new library will provide a new lease of life into the vacant town square it will replace the current pop-up service at Huia Road It’s expected the new modular library will be in use for around 5-7 years with planning for a future outcome for library services in Point Chevalier to continue in the interim Sign up for Albert-Eden E news and get local updates direct to your inbox each month or follow @alberteden on Facebook here. © Auckland Council 2025 All rights reserved For more information on what data is contained in the cookies, please click the 'Find out more on the Auckland Council website' button. Her fence is a white PVC fence that she said was important to her for privacy and security our bedroom is on that side of the house." Sue said she was not aware of the 1.4m limit when her fence was put up "We paid a lot of money for professionals because we didn't know the rules and we trusted that these professionals I wanted the fence to go right across as a straight line she checked back with the contractor who made the fence and they could not give her a clear answer as to whether they knew the rules when they put it up tell the council to go and get stuffed and that legally and we only need consent if it's over two metres on a front boundary." The contractors who built her fence have not been able to supply her with any rules they comply with "They just referred me back to the council which is smacking of leaky building syndrome where Council and builders are pointing the finger at each other they will turn around and say that these professionals should be up with the laws." She said the rules changing due to safety reasons and for an improved streetscape contradicted each other "The safety of children and pedestrians is paramount three-metre-high hedge that can't be seen through which does not help pedestrians or children being seen which apparently is important in the unitary plan that's all fair enough but if it's reducing our privacy and our security for aesthetic reasons I can't see why there's been a complaint." Sue said she was horrified that ratepayers' money is being used to hold homeowners compliant with rules that Auckland Council has not educated contractors on "We're left like the leaky building syndrome of history where homeowners and ratepayers are left holding the can and it seems like the council is making us pay in every which way after not really educating people." Sue said she would not be taking her fence down "I'm currently trying to find out from the council whether a form 8b would be acceptable to them But even if I get the consent of my neighbours Checkpoint put Sue's concerns to Auckland Council who sent a statement It said it's currently investigating three addresses in Sue's street for breaching height restrictions All three were referred to the council via a single complaint They said the rules are designed to strike a balance between privacy with international research showing that "modest-sized fences create the best outcomes for communities." He claimed the existing bridge does not cause congestion instead it is in the roads surrounding the bridge Brown claimed that because the new bridge would have entry and exit points in separate areas it would be the key to reducing congestion Councillor Richard Hills said it was good the mayor was looking "outside the box" He does bring up a good point that we need to be considering far more affordable options for future crossings across the harbour." Hills said the option would be "impossible to consent" because of the environmental implications of the project given it would be crossing over the Meola Reef He also said there would have to be extensive consultations with local iwi due to the encroachment of historical reserves like Kauri Point The original plan for the new harbour crossing was crafted under the Labour government and unveiled in August 2023 They said it would take decades to build and would cost $56 billion It was continuously rejected by major transport bodies who had worked to come up with cheaper alternatives Transport Minister Simeon Brown said during the election National campaigned on the importance of a second crossing for Auckland's Waitematā Harbour to reduce congestion provide additional options for commuters on both sides of the harbour and address capacity pressures on the ageing Auckland Harbour Bridge National anticipated starting work on a new crossing by the end of the decade that would provide more road connections between the North Shore and the CBD Simeon Brown has yet to reveal any more plans for the new crossing and said in February they would not be rushing decisions as it was "the most significant land transport project in New Zealand history" Wayne Brown has been approached for additional comments - New Zealand Herald A local board chair is questioning the cost of Labour's harbour crossing plan while the mayor says both Labour and National's policies are about about politics The previous government's plan for a second harbour crossing in Auckland does not have the support of the transport agencies tasked with taking on the project Auckland mayor Wayne Brown has come out swinging against the government's plans for a second harbour crossing The New Zealand Transport Agency is rejecting claims a second Auckland harbour crossing will not include rail A local in Auckland's Point Chevalier says his street has become a dumping ground for abandoned shopping trolleys Andrew McMartin said he had found 17 trolleys abandoned on his street on Monday He had counted about 50 trolleys on his street alone in the past few months and not the other shopping trolleys that I've seen abandoned at various places around the Point [Chevalier] community." "I think it's just a general sense of entitlement and laziness," he said "This site is literally five minutes walk from the supermarket so it's just entitled people that just can't be bothered actually carrying their groceries and think they can just walk off down the street with a shopping cart and just leave it there." McMartin said he thought overseas alternatives "I know that there are some trolleys that automatically lock as well," he said "These are measures that might need to be considered A Woolworth's NZ spokesperson told RNZ they understood abandoned trolleys could be a nuisance "Trolleys are provided for the convenience of our customers and the vast majority do the right thing in returning them," they said "We want to keep our local communities tidy and trolley free and ensure that we have enough trolleys available in our stores." The spokesperson said Woolworth's spends over $1.5 million a year on collecting abandoned trolleys and contractors collect around 80,000 trolleys and return them to our stores every year They did not encourage members of the public who came across an abandoned trolley to return it themselves they said to contact the Woolworth's Customer Care Team or go in store to arrange a collection Andrew McMartin said he had seen trolleys across the suburb but at bus stops and other locations around the suburb there just seems to people dumping them wherever they want." "It's disappointing obviously to see the kind of sense of entitlement and people thinking that they can just use any street in the suburb as their own dumping ground," McMartin said Police said they had not received any reports of missing trolleys Sign up for Ngā Pitopito Kōrero, a daily newsletter curated by our editors and delivered straight to your inbox every weekday Multiple Auckland supermarkets are reducing their trading hours over safety concerns Wayne Brown is urging the government to build bridge from Pt Chevalier to the North Shore It comes after what the union has described as a "difficult" bargaining process Auckland CityTender325255m²1,118m²Point Chevalier Beachfront Original This rare absolute beachfront estate stands as one of the most iconic landholdings in the city of Auckland sitting in a privately positioned pocket nestled on the edge of the sands Occupying arguably the most desirable beachside position not just in this sought-after urban seaside village it stands as a testament to a time of design excellence This exceptional residence is offered to the market reluctantly due to the current owner having a change of direction This outstanding property sits right on the beach with riparian rights and its own boat ramp With its beachside surrounds and with the feel of a tranquil and secluded garden sanctuary the home and grounds have been beautifully maintained allowing a feeling of escapism and resort style living Every living space of the dual level home looks directly out at the water the magnificent westerly aspect allowing the late afternoon sun to linger with its light dancing though the property and gardens as the sun sets over the harbour Lovers of mid-century architecture will delight in the potential to harness the 255m2 residence's natural charm while the lower level includes a large rumpus or games room with a bar area sauna and a separate boat shed room for storing all the water sports gear that leads out to the beach and boat ramp Call your architect and create the brand new domain of your dreams atop the supersized 1,118m2 land area Unrivalled and incomparable in the most delightful and exclusive location imaginable Please copy and paste this link to download property information: https://www.agentsend.com/JYU4 Auckland CityAsking price $1,790,000211611m²Last Chance! This deceased property is making its market debut after 55 years Located in the highly desirable Pt Chevalier area this community is renowned for its charming Californian-style bungalows and has increasingly become a go-to location for younger residents making it an ideal spot for both living and investment characterized by its neatness and vintage appeal adds a unique charm to the heart of the home there's a separate sleepout and single garage in the backyard with zoning classified as 'Mixed Housing Suburban' the potential for future development and value addition is vast Enjoy the lifestyle benefits of this location with close proximity to Pt Chevalier Beach and a quick drive to the vibrant nightlife in Ponsonby or the CBD Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity Schedule a viewing by appointment or join us at an open home - Benjamin Plummer is an Auckland-based reporter who covers breaking news 'This is not something we’ve seen before.' A derelict building in Auckland’s Point Chevalier has been destroyed following a large fire. Fire and Emergency services received multiple calls reporting a building fire near Great North Rd, Point Chevalier, just before midnight. Fire and Emergency senior station officer Steven Bolton said they initially responded with three fire pumps and an appliance from Te Atatū. “Upon arrival, we found a building that was well involved in fire, which drew a second alarm, which pulled more resources from the inner city districts, from city fire station and Parnell, including a heavy aerial and a hazmat unit from Ōtara.” After determining what was on fire, crews took a “defensive tactical mode for extinguishing the fire”, Bolton said. Firefighters were able to rapidly contain the fire and prevent its spread to surrounding buildings. The derelict property is just in front of a major new supermarket development being built in the suburb. “No reports indicated that anyone was inside the building, and as crews work to extinguish the fire they are ensuring that there is no one inside. The cause was “undetermined” at this time. “We do have a specialist fire investigator on scene and they will work closely with police to assist with determining a cause of the fire.” Bolton said there was no ongoing risk to the public and the fire had been extinguished. He said roughly 33 stores across the country were deemed very high risk "This is across Auckland and the country and across socio-economic areas." Hughes said supermarkets also needed to increase staff to protect workers "They are putting in body cams and locking trolleys But they need to have the right number of staff "We would love to see them go for an in-house security team That would be a major move towards providing a safer working environment." He said for staff at the Pt Chevalier supermarket reducing their working hours was voluntary but he did have some concerns about how it would affect their work "If you don't reduce your hours you're going to be put into other areas of the shop." He said more supermarkets across the country would likely follow suit in changing their hours fearful and powerless over shoplifters wheeling out goods by the trolley load This is the daily experience in some stores around the country Staff are being threatened and hurt in broad daylight Business RSS The New World construction site on Great North Road in Point Chevalier Auckland New Zealand Herald photograph by Jason Dorday 27 June 2024 A 93-year-old Aucklander is yet to find a buyer for his Pt Chevalier home totally surrounded by construction work on a New World supermarket and multi-level car park The home on 12 Parr Rd North has been in Albert John Andrews’ family for 70 years Businesses have replaced homes once filled with young families, with Foodstuffs the latest to move in with plans for a New World store the supermarket giant paid $2.5 million for the house next door to Andrews’ home Then, last year, it spent $9.3m buying land behind and on the other side of Andrews’ house that had formerly contained the Point Chevalier RSA and lawn bowls fields A Foodstuffs spokeswoman said the group also offered to buy Andrews’ property at above its Auckland Council valuation Stuff earlier reported Foodstuffs offered Andrews $2.5m for his home saying he was not a holdout but was instead being driven out “We haven’t had an offer,” he said about Foodstuffs Andrews believed Foodstuffs’ construction work has disrupted his family and failed to properly compensate them while Andrews lives separately in New Windsor The children had earlier had no intention of moving out until Foodstuffs started planning its supermarket dust and heavy construction rattle their lives and the family listed the home for sale more than six months ago Andrews also worries whether construction work might damage the house When the Herald visited the home last month tip trucks carrying dirt rumbled in and out of the neighbouring property while several high-vis workers came and went large concrete pillars jutted from the ground where a basement and multi-level car park is taking shape The car park will stand where sunrises had once been visible over the lawn bowls greens and where the family once took in sweeping Auckland views Foodstuffs said it had been working closely with the family other neighbours and the community throughout the build process for the new supermarket including 12 Parr Road,” the spokeswoman said “We respect the owner of 12 Parr Road’s decision not to progress negotiations with us at the time and to instead list their commercially-zoned land on the open market.” She said the group had “maintained a close and amicable relationship with the family” and had worked hard to “minimise any impact while meeting all the conditions set out in our resource consent” Work was “on track to open this exciting new addition to the Point Chevalier community towards the second half of 2025″ With a lifetime of Point Chevalier memories the family wants to find another three-to-four-bedroom home in the suburb They can only buy again if they sell first And despite house sales slumping across Auckland and New Zealand this year it’s a waiting time,” he said of the market its the only bit of land up in Point Chev right by the shops.” Shirley Daniel from Beckett real estate is the selling agent and said the property has yet to attract serious “bites” from buyers A local vet clinic had been among those interested The site could have allowed the clinic to expand to keep animals overnight because the lack of neighbours meant they wouldn’t have had neighbours complaining about barking dogs The Andrews family had been asking a high price in the current market Yet the property’s value is in its potential as a commercial site capable of being developed into multi-storeys a 3238sq m land section is now on sale with resource consent for an eight-level building complex The consent allows for a mix of 177 apartments with lower-floor commercial spaces Point Chevalier’s shopping district along Great North Rd with its major bus route is also tipped as a future development hot spot “[The Andrews’ land] is going to be a commercial business and what a brilliant position to be in When Foodstuffs began talking to the Andrews’ family in early-to-mid 2022 Point Chevalier house prices were coming off record highs Yet quality homes can be snapped up in 2024 for considerably less Property website OneRoof shows a renovated three-bedroom Point Chevalier home at 73 Walmer Rd on sale for $1.6m with the headline “Make an offer!” in bold in the advertisement A four-bedroom home with 480sq m of floor space just a few blocks from the Point Chev coastline at 13 Dignan St is also on sale for $2.1m, while a beautiful three-bedroom home at 4 Humariri St is another with a $2.1m asking price Real estate agent Daniel said if the Andrews’ home didn’t sell soon it would definitely go in the next market upturn She sees the eight-level development on the corner of Great North Rd and Parr Rd North as the bellwether Once investors got that project running again “that’s when you know the market’s going to move” and the Andrews’ property would be in demand we’re going to just have to put up with the noise and the development because nobody’s looking this way,” she said Academy Award-winning film-maker Taika Waititi has taken Christmas Day catering into his own hand this year Christmas has got off to a roaring start for Taika Waititi and pop star wife Rita Ora A video posted on social media shows the Academy Award-winning film-maker has taken catering into his own hand this year building a roaring hangi in the backyard of his Point Chevalier mansion an English television personality and close friend of Ora posted a video to his Instagram account that showed Waititi standing next to a dug-out pit and a wood pallet alight on a pile of stones The Hunt for the Wilderpeople director — wearing Red Band gumboots red Wayfarer sunglasses and a T-shirt with a collage of Russell Crowe on it — appeared to be explaining the process of building a hangi to his guests His words were inaudible as the video was soundtracked by the Ed Sheeran song I See Fire Morgan captioned the clip: “@taikawaititi and his Hangi! a traditional New Zealand Māori method of cooking food using heated rocks buried in a pit oven.” keeping her distance from the blaze and her shovel-wielding husband who earlier in the day shared a photo taken while on a walk in Point Chevalier posted a video sharing her anticipation for the day I’m so excited but I ate too much,” she said to the camera “It wasn’t a good idea going into the sauna after I’d eaten Ora presumably will have time to regain her appetite before Waititi lifts his hangi Morgan’s clip was posted just after midday New Zealand time and it appeared no food had yet been dropped into the hole The average hangi burns for at least three hours Ora and Waititi purchased the waterfront home in Point Chevalier in July of 2023 for an understood price of $10.5 million The three-storey home sits atop a cliff on a 620sq m section, with views across Waitematā to Te Atatū Peninsula and Hobsonville Point. It was built in the 1990s and underwent renovations a few years ago, with a pool, bathrooms and new kitchen added to the property. Even so, it appears that nothing beats the allure of cooking outdoors. Ora and Waititi are spending Christmas in Aotearoa, but Ora is expected to shortly depart the country. On December 31 she is scheduled to join Ryan Seacrest in New York City’s Times Square to co-host the ABC’s New Year’s Eve broadcast. Sir John said he "wasn't entirely surprised" at Trump's call to go ahead with the policy "They're just a negotiating point I think he simply put on widespread and high rates of tariffs on every country to give himself a leverage point and a negotiating point "What I think he actually grossly underestimated was the stock market reaction You can actually make the case that his own strategy hasn't worked The reason the markets have recovered is because he's taken those tariffs off the most part 'I'm going to negotiate case by case'." Sir John suggested Trump's economic policies could still generally be positive for the US but the tariffs could be trickier for the global economy Asked whether he stood by his October comments that Trump would be good for the economy he said: "Do I think he's going to reduce regulatory burden in the United States It depends on where things shake down in terms of tariffs." Sir John acknowledged that for certain industries Trump's policies could be "a really negative thing" particularly if the president's proposed 100% tariff on the film industry were to be implemented "I can't see how it would be cost-competitive to make a movie in New Zealand with a 100% tariff on it," he said noting that films such as The Hobbit would not have been made in New Zealand without government subsidies who now served as a director of US tech company Palo Alto Networks said he had "always been opposed" to Trump's tariff policies but believes they won't be the "dominant part of his economic solutions" "I don't think it's perfect from New Zealand's point of view but I don't think we should panic either and America will still be a very big market for us to sell things to," he said "There are growing markets around the world It's not a great thing from New Zealand's point of view We've got a very sound economy with lots of options in front of us." Sir John suggested a belief that the Republican Trump was was better "on balance" for the US economy than Democratic opponent Kamala Harris he expressed concerns about Trump's tariff approach: "China doesn't pay those tariffs middle-income consumers or consumers in America do because when a tariff goes on a good that you bring into a country He added: "I don't agree with the massive tariffs and I don't think you'll follow through with all of that and I certainly don't agree with this view on trade." More than 25kg of cocaine has been seized and four men arrested following an joint investigation into the importation of the drug into Christchurch Police and Customs received information about a "significant importation" of cocaine that had come through Lyttelton Port on March 29 Search warrants were then executed across the country by specialist teams to support investigators with evidence gathering Tauranga and Auckland as a result of the six-week investigation including possession of cocaine for supply and burglary and will appear in various district courts across a range of dates Detective Senior Sergeant Phil Sparks said the seizure equated to more than 250,000 doses of cocaine and $9 million of harm "That is an enormous amount of damage and misery that had been heading into our communities that has now been halted through this investigation." Sparks said the success of the investigation was partly down to the "excellent partnership" between Customs and the police "We continue to have a focus on engaging with businesses and supporting their legitimate services by keeping them safe with prevention advice to deter drug trafficking organisations’ attempts to exploit their people and premises." Customs acting investigations manager Rachael Manning said the investigation resulted from quick action and close collaboration between the agencies as well as industry partners "We know that transnational and serious organised crime groups are actively targeting New Zealand to drive up both demand and supply of illegal drugs such as cocaine for maximum profit They’re using every method possible to exploit any vulnerabilities within international supply chains in secure areas or on vessels themselves." Audrey Backeberg disappeared from a small city in south-central Wisconsin after reportedly hitchhiking with her family’s babysitter and catching a bus to Indianapolis Nobody ever knew where she went or what happened to her All that changed last week when she was found alive and safe in another state thanks to the fresh eyes from a deputy who took over the case in February Detective Isaac Hanson discovered an out-of-state arrest record that matched Backeberg which triggered a series of investigative moves that led to finding her alive and safe in another state Turns out Backeberg chose to leave the town of Reedsburg on her own accord – likely due to an abusive husband safe and secure; And just kind of lived under the radar for that long,” he said Hanson was assigned the case in late February and he and other officials met with Backeberg’s family to see if they had a connection with that region They also started digging through Backeberg's sister's Ancestry.com account obituaries and marriage licenses from that region they found an address where a woman was living that Hanson said shared a lot of similarities with Backeberg including date of birth and social security number Hanson was able to get a deputy from that jurisdiction to go to the address "I was expecting the deputy to call me back and say ‘Oh nobody answered the door.’ And I thought it was the deputy calling me I could sense that she obviously had her reasons for leaving.” Most of the information he learned during that call he declined to share saying that it was still important to Backeberg that she not be found “I think it overwhelmed her of course with the emotions that she had having a deputy show up at her house and then kind of call her out and talk with her about what happened and kind of relive 62 years in 45 minutes,” he said Hanson described discovering her safe after more than six decades practically unheard of And while he doesn't know what will happen next in terms of her family reconnecting he said he was happy that she can reach out if she wants to so she has my contact number if she ever wants to reach out or needs anything any phone numbers of family members back here," he said "Ultimately she kind of holds the cards for that.” A law student at Victoria University of Wellington said students had been "left in the lurch" after an announcement on Monday that said next month's exams for two law subjects would have to be handwritten also said a timetable had still not been provided he said he had become "increasingly worried that the embedding of artificial intelligence (AI) in many students' laptops makes ensuring that students' work is their own very difficult" He had hoped the university would have a technical solution although he hoped one would be available at the end of the year "This means that we will not be able to allow students to use laptops for exams next month," McLay wrote "I want to make this announcement as soon as possible so students have time to prepare for handwritten examinations." McLay added that there would be an exception for students with a disability that required them to use a keyboard The situation affected the LAWS 312 Equity and LAWS 334 Ethics exams The student said the announcement was stressful during an already stressful time a representative of the Victoria University of Wellington Law Students' Society said the Council of Legal Education had to be certain that everyone who passed the exams in Equity and Ethics deserved a pass (and did not cheat) "Previously in person invigilation has been sufficient to manage these concerns due to the increasing ability and sophistication of AI the faculty were concerned about the reliability of the exams leading to their decision to make the Equity and Ethics exams handwritten." The representative said the law students' society had expressed that students' preference was for typed exams — "reflecting how our professional lives will look" once it became clear that the faculty felt they needed to proceed with handwritten exams we emphasised that students should be informed as early as possible accessibility options should be made clear and exam content and timing should reflect the fact that many students have not done handwritten exams since high school and are not used to writing for extended periods of time." The representative added it was separate from the delay to the exam timetable Victoria University Provost Professor Bryony James said students' handwriting their exams meant the university could be confident that the results truly reflected the students' own knowledge and effort — free of any suggestion of the influence of AI James said she would ensure that no student was disadvantaged and was committed to working with students — including those with disabilities — who might need further support to participate in exams and final assessments as a result "As part of this undertaking the Faculty of Law will review this Trimester's exam results to ensure this cohort's performance is in line with previous years and confirm that students are not significantly impacted by this decision." President of Victoria University's Students' Association Liban Ali told Morning Report he was aware that this could happen as early as last year "It has been on the card as of last year I feel like there was something that was going to happen." Ali said the announcement had come at the wrong time and that the Students' Association were very concerned for students He said the Students' Association had engaged the Law Society and the faculty to determine the best way to support students He added that he would make sure that any changes were communicated early in the future rnz.co.nz The Government halts all current pay equity claims when her friend called one evening She'd been acting as a referee for a gun licence for Shane whose friend informed her that the police had a long list of offences against Shane’s name Not long after that the police turned up to where Shane was working at the local tannery to arrest him “You're scrambling in your head to think of ways that you can prove it's not you.” Another Shane William error.” But he took advantage of the situation and withdrew a large sum of cash Mosgiel Shane became aware of the withdrawal when a scheduled car payment was declined and when Milton Shane turned up at the bank to withdraw more money Identity fraud was considered but Milton Shane was legitimately expecting an ACC payment so the withdrawal appeared to be a genuine mistake and the police couldn’t Kim Kardashian thought she was going to be raped and killed when criminals broke into her bedroom in central Paris, tied her up and stole more than US$6 million in jewellery. More than eight years later, 10 people will go on trial in Paris over the robbery, abduction and kidnapping of the media personality and the concierge of the residence where she was staying during Paris Fashion Week the night of October 2, 2016. Kardashian’s lawyers said she will testify in person at the trial starting Monday and scheduled to run through May 23. "Ms Kardashian is reserving her testimony for the court and jury and does not wish to elaborate further at this time," they said. "She has great respect and admiration for the French justice system and has been treated with great respect by the French authorities. "She wishes the trial to proceed in an orderly fashion, in accordance with French law and with respect for all parties to the case." In interviews and on her family’s reality TV show, Kardashian has described being terrified as robbers pointed a gun at her. In a 2020 appearance on David Letterman’s Netflix show, she tearfully recalled thinking: "This is the time I’m going to get raped. I’m like, ‘What is happening? Are we gonna die? Just tell them I have children. I have babies, I have a husband, I have a family.'" Twelve people were originally expected in the defendants’ box. One of them has died, and another is seriously ill and can't be tried. According to the investigation, five of the 10 defendants were present at the scene of the robbery. The French press has dubbed them The Granddad Robbers because the main defendants are elderly and have careers as bank robbers with long criminal records. Kardashian told investigators she was taken to a bathroom next to her bedroom and placed in the bathtub. Her attackers fled on bicycles or on foot and she managed to free herself by removing the tape from her hands and mouth. She had also removed the tape from her feet and rushed to her stylist’s room. She called her sister Kourtney to tell her about the theft. Shortly afterwards, Kardashian told investigators that she had not been injured. She filed a complaint, adding that she wanted to leave France as soon as possible to be reunited with her children. According to her testimony and that of the concierge, at least one of the suspects had a handgun, with which he threatened the victims. The gangsters stole many pieces of jewellery, including a ring of great value, estimated to be worth more than US$6 million (NZ$10 million). Only one piece of jewellery — a diamond cross on platinum that was lost during the suspects' escape — has been recovered. Two of the accused have partially confessed to the crime, as their DNA was found at the crime scene. The alleged ringleader, 68-year-old Aomar Aït Khedache, is one of two suspected robbers who allegedly entered the apartment. Nicknamed "Old Omar", his genetic profile was found on the tape used to gag Kardashian. He left the hotel on a bicycle, as did two other robbers, then met his son, who was waiting for him in a parked car at a nearby train station. The second robber said he tied up the concierge with cables but did not go up to Kardashian’s apartment. Yunice Abbas, 71, said he acted as a lookout in the ground-floor reception area, making sure the escape route was clear. He said he was unarmed and did not personally threaten Kardashian, but admitted he shared responsibility for the crime. Abbas was arrested in January 2017 and spent 21 months in prison before being released under judicial supervision. In 2021, he co-authored a French-language book titled I Sequestered Kim Kardashian. Didier Dubreucq, 69, known as "Blue Eyes", is the second alleged robber suspected of entering the flat. He denies any involvement, although he was filmed by CCTV cameras and numerous telephone contacts with the other co-defendants show his involvement, according to the investigation. The other defendants are suspected of providing information about Kardashian’s presence in the apartment. Others are accused of playing a role in the resale of the jewellery in Antwerp, Belgium. Salt-N-Pepa, the first female rap act to achieve gold and platinum status, and the late singer-songwriter Warren Zevon will get the Musical Influence Award. The late record producer Thom Bell, pianist Nicky Hopkins and bassist Carol Kaye will each get the Musical Excellence Award. The late Cocker, who sang at Woodstock and was best known for his cover of The Beatles’ With a Little Help From My Friends, had the backing of Billy Joel, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Pete Thomas, a member of Elvis Costello & The Attractions, who argued that Cocker is "about as rock and roll as it gets". Soundgarden — with the late Chris Cornell as singer — get into the Hall on their third nomination. They follow two other grunge acts in the Hall — Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Bad Company get in having become radio fixtures with such arena-rock staples as Feel Like Makin’ Love, Can’t Get Enough and Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy. Records who signed Prince and R.E.M., and had a part in records from Madonna, Randy Newman, the Doobie Brothers, Rickie Lee Jones, Paul Simon and Gary Clark Jr. Some nominees that didn't get in this year included Mariah Carey, Phish, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, the Black Crowes and Oasis. The 83-year-old has expressed frustration that he hadn't been granted entry before, including telling the AP in 2014: "I don’t want to get in there when I’m 85 years old. I’ll tell them to drop dead, so you better do it quick while I’m still smiling." Lauper rose to fame in the 1980s with hits such as Time After Time and Girls Just Want To Have Fun and went on to win a Tony Award for Kinky Boots. OutKast, made up of André 3000 and Big Boi, have six Grammys and a reputation for pushing the boundaries of hip-hop. The White Stripes — made up of Jack White and Meg White — were indie darlings in the early 2000s with such songs as Seven Nation Army. Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they’re eligible for induction. The induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this fall. Nominees were voted on by more than 1200 artists, historians and music industry professionals. The selection criteria include "an artist’s impact on other musicians, the scope and longevity of their career and body of work, as well as their innovation and excellence in style and technique".
