the 3rd German-Polish Balloon School Exchange “Mystery of the Wind” took place in Grudziądz had the opportunity to learn about ballooning and the special importance of wind for flights. This exchange is supported by the German-Polish Youth Office through the STEM (Science Engineering & Mathematics) funding program Workshops and activities as part of language animation for team building are an important part of the program The Balloon School Exchange takes place alternately at different locations in Poland and Germany Thanks to the cooperation with the local balloon club we had optimal conditions for our workshops and lessons in their great facilities also for the balloon flights in the beautiful landscape of the Vistula around Grudziądz We try to implement our workshops with simple means and to establish a connection to ballooning Everyone had a lot of fun in a competition in which the aim was to hit a target cross in the courtyard from the second floor next year we hope to return to Bitterfeld-Wolfen where we will have the opportunity to fly not only in a hot-air balloon but also in a gas balloon Header image shows campers filling the balloon with cold air on the banks Olimpia Grudziadz on Sun Speedway GP star Jason Doyle announced his Czestochowa return with 15 points but it was not enough to deny his 2024 club Grudziadz a 51-39 win away to the Lions on Saturday Three wins and three second places from six outings marked a fine PGE Ekstraliga return for Doyle whose 2024 season was ended by a torn rotator cuff last May But a 14-point tally from Danish racer Michael Jepsen Jensen inspired Grudziadz to victory SGP star Max Fricke adding eight paid 10 and Jaimon Lidsey collecting eight paid nine Doyle was supported by a 10 paid 12-point total from Polish rider Piotr Pawlicki Pawlicki called on Czestochowa fans to stay behind the team he wrote: “Today we had a really tough match Although the result is not what we expected let's remember that this is One of the most important processes is currently underway at the main site of the power plant namely the installation of the turbine unit which will form the heart of the investment the CCGT Grudziądz power plant under construction will be able to power up to 1 million households in the future key parts of the power plant were transported to the construction site in Grudziądz these are the main components of the turbine unit The first two parts arrived to Grudziądz from factories in Germany while the generator came from the United States They were transported both by land and water – by sea and river Assembly of the main machines began in May when they were placed on their foundations The works are expected to be completed with the start of the unit’s test commissioning The gas turbine is the most important component that is the power plant’s drive source Its operating principle makes it a device directly comparable to jet engines used in aviation The task of the gas turbine is to convert the chemical energy of the fuel (natural gas) into mechanical energy (rotating shaft) which will then be used to drive the generator The product of the turbine’s operation (as a result of fuel combustion) is also the thermal energy of the combustion gases when directed to the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) are used to generate steam at high pressure and temperature High operating efficiency and the ability to respond quickly to changes in energy demand make gas turbines key components of today’s power systems A steam turbine is a machine that allows you to convert the thermal energy of steam produced in a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) into mechanical energy (rotating shaft) to drive the generator the steam turbine will consist of two separate parts – bodies; these will be a common body of the high and medium-pressure parts of the turbine and a separate body of the low-pressure turbine For a single-shaft turbine unit configuration as is the case at the Grudziądz power plant both gas and steam turbines will drive a common generator Steam turbines are at the heart of power generation in many types of power plants This conversion takes place in the condenser a terminal device located at the outlet of the steam turbine The steam turbine contributes to the efficient and stable generation of energy in the power plant which – thanks to its location in the central part of the turbine unit – is driven from both sides by turbines The generator converts the mechanical energy generated by the turbines into the power plant’s end product Electrical power production in the generator occurs as a result of rotation of the generator rotor in a magnetic field where energy is generated according to Faraday’s principle of electromagnetic induction The rotor of the power plant’s generator in Grudziądz will rotate at an impressive 50 revolutions per second This is due to its design and the frequency of the grid current The generator of the Grudziądz power plant thanks to synchronisation with the national power grid will provide the ability to stabilise the key parameters of its operation (power ensuring availability and safe supply of energy to end users.    The contract for the construction of the Grudziądz power plant was concluded with its general contractor (a consortium of Siemens Energy and Metlen Energy & Metals S.A The cornerstone for the power plant was laid a year later all the major foundations and structures necessary for the installation of the unit’s key equipment have been built in Grudziądz The works carried out so far: the main components of the turbine unit have been placed on the foundations; the huge modules that make up the heat recovery steam generator have been assembled; the block transformer has been installed on the workstation; the pipelines have been built and the main part of the water fan cooler structure has been assembled hundreds of workers continue the process of erecting more buildings facilities and installations for further power plant equipment Contractors working for the construction of the power plant are implementing gas water and electrical power transmission systems in cooperation with the Grudziądz Municipal Roads Authority and the road investment contractor to begin works on redevelopment of public roads located in the vicinity of the power plant under construction The importance of the investment in Grudziądz The Grudziądz investment will be one of the largest and most modern power plants of its kind in Poland contributing to Poland’s energy security and decarbonisation of the energy generation sector Gas-steam power plants are characterised by high flexibility and the ability to quickly transition from shut-down to full capacity These are critical features for an electric power system with rapidly growing renewable sources such as due to unfavourable weather conditions for RES production CCGT units can make up for the shortage by efficiently balancing electrical power production both renewables and low-carbon gas-fired power plants are two key pillars of Energa’s development strategy until the end of 2030 7th Commercial Division of the National signed an agreement with a German-Greek consortium to design and build a gas-steam power plant as part of efforts to move away from coal towards lower-emission sources of power which will be built in the city of Grudziądz in collaboration with Germany’s Siemens and Greece’s Mytilineos Construction is expected to start this year and be completed by 2025 at an estimated cost of 2 billion zloty (€430 million) A gas-steam power plant produces up to 50% more electricity from the same fuel, as the waste heat from a gas turbine is later used in a steam turbine, which generates extra power. It is planned for the plant to later run entirely on hydrogen Polish state oil giant plans nine low-emission “hydrogen hubs” in Poland, Czech Rep and Slovakia “It will be one of the most modern facilities of its kind in Europe,” said Energa, which was in 2020 taken over by another state energy firm, Orlen “It is an important step in the Orlen Group’s plan to expand into energy based on renewable sources small nuclear reactors and low-emission gas generation.” “The power plant in Grudziądz is certainly another important point in the direction of decarbonisation of the energy sector in Poland which will significantly reduce CO2 emissions,” said Grzegorz Należyty managing director of Siemens Energy Poland “Siemens Energy technology will allow for co-firing a mixture of gas and hydrogen in the future thus ensuring the security of electricity supply to the Polish energy system,” he added That has included a growing role for renewables and plans for the country’s first nuclear power stations to open within the next decade As Russia turns off the gas, Poland finds ways to keep supplies flowing Main image credit: Energa (press materials) Alicja Ptak is senior editor at Notes from Poland and a multimedia journalist , , Karol Nawrocki even suggested that the state security services were involved in creating the scandal , , The 1,200 square metre national symbol was unfurled on the beach in Międzyzdroje , , The proportion of Poles saying the US has a positive influence on the world has also fallen to its lowest recorded level Apr 30, 2025 | , , , That response will include “large Polish and NATO exercises in Poland” Apr 29, 2025 | , , , Those employed in Poland work on average the third-longest hours in the European Union Apr 28, 2025 | , , , , Westinghouse and Bechtel were first chosen in 2022 as partners on the 192 billion zloty ($51 billion) project please consider helping us to continue and expand it [email protected] Copyright © 2025 Notes From Poland | Design jurko studio | Code by 2sides.pl Senior Research Fellow at the Global Europe Centre ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR Weronika Strzyżyńska is currently studying journalism at Goldsmiths as a Scott Trust Bursary recipient She  has written on issues immigration and Brexit for New Statesman and Prospect Agnieszka Wądołowska is managing editor of Notes from Poland She has previously worked for Gazeta.pl and Tokfm.pl and contributed to Gazeta Wyborcza ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR Daniel Tilles is editor-in-chief of Notes from Poland and assistant professor of history at the Pedagogical University of Krakow He has written on Polish affairs for a wide range of publications The Independent and Dziennik Gazeta Prawna ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR Stanley Bill is the founder and editor-at-large of Notes from Poland. He is also Senior Lecturer in Polish Studies and Director of the Polish Studies Programme at the University of Cambridge Stanley has spent more than ten years living in Poland He founded Notes from Poland in 2014 as a blog dedicated to personal impressions cultural analysis and political commentary He is committed to the promotion of deeper knowledge and understanding of Poland He is the Chair of the Board of the Notes from Poland Foundation ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR Professor of European Studies at Oxford University ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR Professor at the Institute of History of the Jagiellonian University ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR Executive Director of Taube Family Foundation ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR Associate Professor at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Science ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR ARTICLES BY THIS AUTHOR Robert Kościecha is about to start his second season as the coach of BAYERSYSTEM GKM Grudziądz he talked about the preparations for the upcoming season and the form of his players Marek Kania (ekstraliga.pl): Are you satisfied with the current progress of the preparations for the season Robert Kościecha (coach of BAYERSYSTEM GKM Grudziądz): I think so We initially planned to go on track on March 15 and managed to do it but I’m glad the weather is cooperating Did the training camp in Spain go as successfully as last year’s but it was a decision we made after talking with the riders who have many other commitments during the preseason I’m glad the club organized this trip despite the cost and we will definitely repeat it in the future 📸 Z cyklu: "zdjęcie rodzinne". several of last year’s home matches BAYERSYSTEM GKM Grudziądz started poorly and had to make up significant deficits from the first series of starts We had matches where our starts weren’t the best The toughest situation was the match with STAL Gorzów where after the first series we were already losing by 10 points We’d like to control the score more often as we did in the competition with BETARD SPARTA Wrocław in the regular season or with KRONO-PLAST WŁÓKNIARZ Częstochowa and I hope we won’t make mistakes and will be a strong team from the very start Michael Jepsen Jensen made a A consortium of Przedsiebiorstwo Budowy Dróg i Mostów and Tor-Kar-Sson has won a contract to modernise the metre-gauge tram network in Grudziadz The 54·8m zloty contract covers 7·6 km of track and overhead electrification renewals Site powered by Webvision Cloud They gave him an injection and handed him a 20-złoty banknote – worth about 8 Swiss francs He was just led to believe that it was an ordinary vaccine against seasonal flu remembers the events of 2007 that took place in a clinic in the Polish town of Grudziadz situated in the middle of nowhere between Warsaw and Danzig Grzegorz was then a resident in a hostel for the homeless and tempted by the idea of earning a little bit of money If he had known that it was for a clinical trial an experimental drug – the anti-flu treatment Aflunov (Fluad-H5N1) – was tested at Grudziadz on about 350 people The series of trials V87P4 was intended to prove the efficacy of this pre-pandemic vaccine against the H5N1 virus The illness was rampant in South-east Asia at the time and represented enormous commercial potential for pharmaceutical companies many governments wished to ensure adequate supplies of vaccine: this was a very profitable market especially for the company that could obtain the authorisation to market a product that was effective again avian flu It was therefore urgent to test the safety and efficacy of Aflunov The research organisation mandated by Novartis to conduct the clinical trial in Poland was also aware of the urgency of the situation the contracts were signed in haste in the clinic at Grudziadz one of the 23 where the vaccine was tested in Poland The medical team had required the nursing staff to find people willing to participate in the test as quickly as possible members of their families and others they knew were vaccinated first When it was no longer possible to find other people in their entourage a well-known drug addict in the town was asked to recruit guinea-pigs in the Frère Albert homeless shelter the nursing staff themselves signed the consent forms and even took part of the fee that was due to be paid to those who participated in the trial It was by chance that the police became aware of the situation following an affray between the residents of the home concerning the amount received for their participation which was significantly higher than normal He does not know whether this was connected with the clinical trials but he believes that it is possible that the administration of the vaccines could have had negative consequences for the residents He therefore requested that the prosecution open an investigation His request was denied on the grounds that a medical examination had proven that the vaccine was not harmful to health The doctor responsible for the examination the study in question was invalidated by the competent European authorities The prosecution initiated proceedings against the doctors for falsification of documents and undue enrichment The public prosecutor considered that the sponsors of the study had suffered a loss The surgery personnel had not respected the terms of the contract that linked them to Novartis and to its Polish sub-contractor The latter even obtained a promise of compensation The lawyers acting for the nursing staff are appealing just before the deadline for the limitation period for this case the Appeal Court at Danzig rendered its judgment: six nurses and three doctors were declared guilty of falsification of documents and undue enrichment and were given fines and suspended prison sentences The Polish tribunal attributed all the responsibility for this affair to the clinic personnel the doctors and the nursing staff were subjected to severe pressure and the related international directives stipulate that the sponsor of a clinical trial is responsible for its conduct It is the responsibility of the sponsor to ensure that those people willing to take part in a clinical trial be adequately informed about its nature and therefore able to give their informed consent the Polish tribunal even awarded compensation to the company that represented Novartis on the grounds that it had suffered a loss from the clinic received nothing: no compensation for infringement of the individual’s rights; and no compensation for their resulting health problems is claiming 50,000 Swiss francs in damages and interests from the Basel-based giant and at least 50,000 Swiss francs representing the sharing of profits – Novartis having in the meantime sold its vaccines division for a high price In order to delay the deadline for the limitation period his Zurich-based lawyer has submitted a request for the prosecution of the group for an amount of five million Swiss francs it is clear that the sponsor must also take responsibility for the behaviour of those persons who support it in conducting the test – in this case the organisation commissioned to undertake the research This principle is enshrined in law in both Poland and Switzerland the decision could affect tens of thousands of people who are currently participating in clinical trials for Novartis around the world It is essential that the pharma giant accept its responsibilities and in future take all necessary measures to guarantee the protection of people who participate in drugs testing Novartis CIA PMR & Officials Subcommittee member The 2023/6th FAI Junior World Hot Air Balloon Championship (JWHABC) begins soon with details as follows The first JWHABC was held in 2012 in Lithuania.  This year will be the 6th edition JWHABC has been hosted in Poland three times in a row- Wloclawek in 2014 GRUDZIĄDZ is strongly associated with aviation history It is the place where the famous Polish Air Force Officer School was established in 1925.  Later it moved to Dęblin where training of the elite of military pilots is still conducted and para gliders flying in the sky is a very common scene in Grudziądz They care about these traditions and the sentiment it brings- because they think it's worth it This will be the first big event for the city of Grudziądz.  The director of the organization thinks this will be a big challenge for him and for his team but they are confident of a successful outcome Forty-five pilots from 17 countries will compete for the title of Junior World Hot Air Balloon Champion.   The youngest participant is Tereza Stanova from Czech Republic said that they have been doing trainings together since the beginning of this flying season The more they participate in competitions together They will compete in JWHABC helping each other and they hope that one of them finishes on the podium All persons on board in the basket must be aged less than 30 at the start of the event The Gold medal winner shall automatically be invited to the next World Championship The Junior World HABC is every two years.  Pilots have only a small window of opportunity to participate in this event during their pilot career so it will be very prestigious to earn the gold medal the Polish Aero Club Balloon Commission and the World Air Sports Federation (FAI) The Strategic Partner of the event is the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship The event is also widely supported by the Senator of the Republic of Poland The event director of JWHABC is Eugenijus Komas.  Eugenijus started his career in ballooning 25 years ago as an Observer a competition official assigned to each competitor I asked him for a comment about JWHABC even though he was busy preparing for another event When he went to Grudziądz for the first time 2 years ago they showed him the facility for the competition head office of the Championship.  But it was not the best in his opinion a different place for the competition head office was used.  It was not a good place in the hot weather.  It turned out to be like an oven The organizer found another place for this year.  Eugenijus thinks it will be an ideal place for this kind of event Eugenijus said that the most important things right now are the weather and the task settings He really hopes that everything is going to work perfectly as he has been planning but he also said that the devil is hiding in the details Let’s hope that we will not see the devil during the Championship Luckily in the FAI Ballooning Public & Media Relations (PMR) Sub-Committee we have former gold medalist of the Junior Worlds To take a part at an event like the Junior Worlds the organizers opened the event with a public ceremony in Wloclawek and we got to really feel what it is like to represent a nation mingle in between the teams and together create an atmosphere you can hardly feel at any other event At least these are my memories from both junior world events I took part at would be to enjoy the event one with another You are there to meet pilots and crew from all around the world As the community worldwide is still rather small those people will be around for a long time As always - try rather scoring alright on all tasks Ballooning is highly about relativity to the rest of the pilots Keep that in mind before fighting hard for an off-grid target I am really looking forward to the updates from JWHABC at Watchmefly FAIBallooning channels and the various social medias that organizers is offering I am sure  you will find the best moments from the event “Balloons bring good luck” is the motto of this event The organizer wants to let people know that ballooning is for everyone the organizer planned some events where people can come closer to flying balloons or even go into the basket in tethered balloons videos from the ground and from the drones during the event When possible, there will be live streaming on the FAI Ballooning Facebook page as well. So please do not forget to follow FAI Ballooning Facebook page If you are at the site and want to share your experience on social media Danish racer Leon Madsen revived his Speedway European a maximum output of 150 kW (1,200 Nm is the peak torque) An average electric bus can cover around 10 km with this amount of electricity Energy consumption for Volvo’s electric hybrid buses is about 60 percent lower than for corresponding diesel buses Emission of carbon dioxide is reduced by 75 to 90 percent The electric hybrid can run in electric mode for about 70% of the route The Volvo 7900 Electric Hybrid can run as an electric bus in selected areas 5,1 litres) offers extended range in line-operation The buses will be delivered to Grudziadz in the spring of 2019 Manufacturing will take place in Volvo’s factory in Wrocław The electric hybrid buses are being sold as a turnkey package whereby Volvo takes care of all vehicle and battery maintenance “This solution allows for a completely different perspective of the city planning exhaust-free zones since the electric hybrid has the ability to drive fully electrically in such zones shopping malls and hospitals,” says Małgorzata Durda devoted part of his speeches to transgender people He said transgender identity is absurd from the point of view of traditional values and common sense Another important part of the Grudziądz power plant project has arrived at the construction site which is the most important element that forms the heart of this project A project that is important for the National Power System but also for the residents of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region Owned by the company Energa from the ORLEN Group the Grudziądz power plant will be able to power up to 1 million households in the future making a visible contribution to Poland’s energy security as well as the transformation of Poland’s electricity generation sector The construction is scheduled for completion next year and the current state of advancement of works exceeded 70 percent in March The investment project is implemented by CCGT Grudziądz a company that belongs to Energa from the ORLEN Group consortium of SIMENS ENERGY and MYTILINEOS Energy & Metals Siemens Energy is a company located in 90 countries they are operating across the whole energy landscape from grid technology to storage to electrifying complex industrial processes At the same time MYTILINEOS is a multinational industrial and energy company which solidified its reputation through successful execution of thermal energy projects across Europe thanks to combination of experience both consortium partners they are combining their expertise with CCGT Grudziądz for Project success which is one of the most technically advanced machines of its kind in the world was manufactured at Siemens Energy’s factory in Berlin to complete the final leg of its journey to Grudziądz again on a barge Since this transport was unique in its size – taking into account the infrastructure available in Grudziądz – it was necessary to prepare a special wharf for its needs It took three days to transport the gas turbine from Gdańsk to Grudziądz which was accompanied by two tugboats tasked with propelling it safely and efficiently was at the time traversing the strong current of the river with its huge cargo the speed at which the barge moved to its destination fluctuated between 8 and 12 kilometers per hour.  it set off for the final stage of its journey straight to the construction site of the power plant This unprecedented event in the history of Grudziądz took place on the night of March 26-27 arousing the interest of residents who accompanied the turbine on its passage through the city The transport of the turbine on the final leg of its journey was carried out using a highly specialised 10-axle 80-wheel platform designed for transporting huge cargoes of this type Powered by a special diesel-hydraulic drive this vehicle was radio-controlled by an operator marching right alongside the machine Due to the need to ensure precise control of such a massive set the speed of the vehicle was approximately 5 kilometers per hour The transport of the gas turbine through Grudziądz itself required detailed coordination and cooperation with the city authorities and municipal companies including in particular the Municipal Roads Administration and the Grudziądz Municipal Transportation Department In order to move such a huge cargo in the streets it was necessary to: exclude part of the roads from use change the organisation and route of part of the public transport temporarily dismantle road signs that collided with the cargo as well as raise the tramway overhead power supply located on the route of the turbine Thanks to the smooth execution of the preparatory works as well as the implementation of the transport during the night this very complicated logistical operation was carried out safely without generating undue inconvenience for residents Gas turbine as a key component of the power plant The gas turbine is a key component of the combined cycle power plant under construction in Grudziądz Its task is to convert the chemical energy of the fuel (natural gas) into mechanical energy (rotating shaft) which will then be used to drive a generator that will produce the final product of the power plant – electricity to convey the scale of the enormous power of the gas turbine that has been delivered to Grudziądz it is worth using some symbolic comparison One of the world’s largest passenger airliners the Boeing 747 (also colloquially known as the Jumbo Jet) can reach a power output (from thrust units) of 230,000 horsepower which is produced by four huge turbojet engines If such an aircraft were to provide the CCGT Grudziądz power plant with power comparable to that achieved by the SGT5-4000F gas turbine manufactured by Siemens Energy two huge Jumbo Jets would be needed on the site This comparison shows the enormous power of the machine that in recent days has been transported through the streets of Grudziądz to the power plant under construction on Skowronkowa Street The third key component of the turbine unit is on its way The site of the power plant under construction in Grudziądz already has both turbines – the steam turbine and the gas turbine delivered in recent days In order to complete the delivery of all the most important components of the turbine unit under construction at the power plant it is still necessary to deliver the generator which is currently transported from the Siemens Energy’s plant in Charlotte (USA) the machine with a weight of approximately 400 tons will begin its journey down the Vistula River to Grudziądz 2024 – a year full of important activities The work on the construction of the power plant is proceeding as planned the cornerstone was laid for the power plant’s foundation The foundation and structures necessary for the erection of the unit’s key equipment have been built including in particular: the currently delivered turbine unit and the heat recovery steam generator that is already on site whose huge modules were delivered last year to Grudziądz from the port of Gdansk and facilities for the subsequent elements of the power plant equipment has begun the power plant is undergoing the construction of buildings for the control room and the administration building systems are being built that will transfer cooling water gas and electricity between the individual facilities of the power plant works related to the construction of transmission pipelines that will deliver water from the Vistula River to the power plant as well as the construction of a gas pipeline that will deliver fuel to the power plant the construction of an overhead power output line from the power plant will begin through which 400,000 volts of electricity will flow directly into the National Power System The power unit in Grudziądz is one of the key investments of the ORLEN Group’s Energa in low-emission energy sources balancing the National Power System The investment in the gas-steam unit in Grudziądz will support the strategic goals of the energy transformation of both Poland and the ORLEN Group itself the Group aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40% per MWh (megawatt hour) by 2030 and to achieve full carbon neutrality by 2050 The Grudziądz power plant is also a production source that is important from the point of view of the Polish Transmission System Operator - Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (abbreviated PSE) CCGT Grudziądz entered into a 17-year contract with PSE within the power market with the first year of providing power falling in 2026 Four-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Triple world champion Nicki Pedersen has pledged to race on into 2024 despite losing his team places with Holsted and Grudziadz The 46-year-old suffered what many feared could be career-ending hip and pelvis injuries in Grudziadz on June 5 Pedersen defied his doubters to get back on track and continued racing at the highest level – at the same time as taking over as Danish national team manager this summer leading them to the bronze medal at the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup Final in Wroclaw on July 29 Pedersen was stunned when his Danish Superligaen club Holsted with PGE Ekstraliga side Grudziadz also not offering terms But Pedersen has no plans to hang up his kevlars and posting a statement on social media He said: “The 2023 season has come to an end – a season I will never forget I fought my way back to do what no-one thought was possible after the worst injury of my career I started the season well and scored maximum points in my first league meeting in Poland.  which made it difficult to hold on to the bike and gave me some difficult races.  despite my pain and small challenges I have had since my injury.  “This season was the end with both my Polish club Grudziadz and very surprisingly my Danish club Holsted I always give everything I can – 100 percent “Having to leave Holsted after 21 seasons has been difficult I am not done yet and am currently negotiating with clubs in Poland Whether I will ride in Denmark is not yet known but if the opportunity and the match are correct He added: “I would like to thank all my sponsors who have followed me in Holsted I am sorry that I was not allowed to ride my last years and end my career in Holsted “Let's see if we might not still see each other on the Danish speedway tracks in 2024 I'm not that easy to knock out; I fight to the end!” Pedersen is already training ahead of the 2024 season to ensure he returns in the best shape possible He said: “This year I want to start in October to train physically and get ready and fit for 2024 as my body needs more time to get back into fighting shape.” Pedersen is pleased he took the plunge and accepted the chance to manage his country He added: “I was very doubtful at the beginning if the time was right for me and it turned out to be the right thing.  It makes me happy when I can share my experience and I can see that they can use it and take my advice to heart It gives me something positive to be able to give something back to the sport and help the young people.” selected the general contractor for a CCGT unit with a net power output of approx Activities are to commence already this year will be one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in Europe It will be an important part of the expansion of the ORLEN Group’s energy segment based on renewable energy sources small nuclear reactors and low-carbon gas-fired power generation “The ORLEN Group is building a modern and low-carbon energy segment that will increase Poland’s independence and security combined with growing production from ORLEN Group’s own sources is a guarantee of stable and economical production complementing the portfolio of renewable energy sources being developed at the ORLEN Group” President of the PKN ORLEN Management Board temporarily acting as President of the Energa Management Board In light of the challenging situation faced by the entire power industry which is attributable to the EU climate policy the current technology landscape as well as some other factors gas sources are expected to act as a stabiliser for the Polish electricity system they can be used to balance out renewable energy sources whose output depends on weather conditions in view of the transition of the Polish energy sector we should expect a continuing increase in installed renewable energy capacity where output depends on hydrological conditions in order to balance the variable output from renewable sources with existing demand for the sake of safe operation of the National Electricity System to ensure low-carbon generation assets enabling output control such as the planned CCGT plant in Grudziądz” President of the Management Board of CCGT Grudziądz Sp The CCGT unit in Grudziądz will play an important role in ensuring the energy security of Poland a 17-year capacity market contract was signed with the Transmission Network Operator it will earn PLN 3.52 billion in revenue as a minimum The investment project will be implemented by a consortium of Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co KG The technology to be used in the construction of the unit in Grudziądz will be one of the most advanced solutions available on the market The planned CCGT unit will be characterised by high efficiency more than 60 percent under nominal conditions high availability and flexibility of operation “We are excited to cooperate with the ORLEN Group for the second time in the construction of a power plant and delivery of a highly-efficient CCGT unit The power plant in Grudziądz definitely marks an important milestone in the decarbonisation of the energy sector in Poland and will result in a considerable reduction of CO2 emissions The technology delivered by Siemens Energy will enable co-firing of a gas and hydrogen mixture which will ensure the security of supply for the Polish electricity system” Vice President for Eastern Europe and Managing Director at Siemens Energy Polska The construction of the CCGT unit is also important for the community Large investment projects like this one are a key economic driver creating new jobs and tax inflows to the local budget “This is definitely going to be the largest investment project in Grudziądz It offers our town an opportunity for continued strong growth It will certainly mean high inflows to the budget from property taxes estimated at more than ten million zlotys per month But this is also a chance for local companies that may take part in the project as subcontractors and later on dozens of high-skilled jobs will be created a new road layout is also planned in connection with this project” Log in and download the free e-publication of the latest A&B The printed version Pedersen insists Polish club Grudziadz didn’t force him to step down from the Peterborough side following his crash at the East of England Showground on March 27 The Danish team manager was racing in Britain for the first time since 2011 on what was his competitive racing comeback from the badly broken hip and pelvis he suffered in Grudziadz on June 5 But his SGB Premiership return against Ipswich lasted less than half a lap after he caught a soft patch in the first corner and crashed hard just beyond the second-bend air fence He has also had fluid drained from his pelvis twice since the incident scoring an 18-point maximum in Grudziadz’s PGE Ekstraliga opener at home to Czestochowa last Saturday But rumours quickly circulated that the Odense-born star wouldn’t be returning to the UK Despite claims that he was forced to step down by Grudziadz Pedersen says departing Peterborough was his call to make He said: “Of course I had a talk with them and said ‘what do you think?’ They said straight away ‘we don’t want you to make any more problems and we can’t afford to lose you.’ But they never said a word to the effect of ‘you are not allowed to do this or that.’ I also can’t afford to miss one or two meetings in the Polish Ekstraliga because that is mostly where I earn my money “I have always been an honest guy – to the fans and to everyone The other riders could easily blame the Polish club Pedersen was keen to ensure he doesn’t put himself at risk of further injury or take on too many meetings after a crash that could have ended his career just over 10 months ago The 46-year-old said: “The back is still very I know I scored a maximum in Poland the other day but I was absolutely exhausted for three days afterwards That means I cannot continue to do two or three meetings a week – the body is just not well enough for that yet “I took the decision I had to pull out because I don’t want to do things that I know I cannot do 100 percent people really expect me to do them 110 percent and I wanted to do this at 110 percent “But it’s not possible right now with the injuries I came with from the past and the new one I took on board with the back and it isn’t possible to do things by halves That would be dangerous to myself and the other guys.” Some have questioned how much money Pedersen earned from his very brief return to Peterborough but the Dane insists he didn’t take a penny from the club He said: “I saw people saying they hope I send my money back for the signing-on fee Pedersen admits track conditions on the night at the East of England Showground made life tricky But he insists he doesn’t leave the SGB Premiership with any bad feelings towards Britain or its fans He said: “I love British speedway and the country But the tracks are different with the shale and the way they prepare the tracks compared to the other countries “The preparation at the venue and stuff like that was not ideal on the night We could hardly practice on the track in the afternoon Then they worked hard on the track to try and get it prepared for the evening Three riders hit that soft bit on the first and second corner It is quite normal that you take the inside line for the first few heats We all hit it and tried to avoid each other and fortunately I ended up going into the fence instead of any other riders they moved the white line one and a half metres out which they probably should have done before the meeting should probably not have been on.” This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just
