Brazil’s Federal Police are reporting the largest cocaine seizure in the history of the Maranhao state in northern Brazil made from a bulker anchored offshore
Reports are the crew of the vessel discovered the suspicious packages and reported it to the local police who are now investigating how the cocaine got aboard the vessel
The Jawor (79,649 dwt) is a bulker built in 2010 and operated by Polsteam (Polish Steamship Company)
The vessel arrived in a ballast condition off the Port of Itaqui on October 2 and was scheduled to dock five days later on October 7
It was to pick up a cargo of soybeans to be transported to Cartagena
According to the media reports and a spokesperson from Polsteam
the crew of the vessel discovered the packages in the forward storage area while the ship was at anchor
The spokesperson told the Polish media that the suspicion was that unknown perpetrators boarded the vessel overnight from small boats while the bulker was at anchor
They contend the crew was asleep when the packages were placed aboard
Bundles of cocaine were found aboard the ship while it was waiting for its berth (Federal Police)
The master informed the port agent of the discovery and the Federal Police stormed the ship overnight from Friday
Reports are teams helicoptered to the vessel and launched a search
The bundles of cocaine weighed a total of 500 kg were transferred to a police launch and taken for investigation
The police reported that the entire crew would be questioned as part of their investigation
They are suspicious that the drugs were loaded with the help of crewmembers
The crew consists of 20 individuals from Poland
Reports highlight that drug cartels are increasingly attempting to hide illegal drugs aboard the vessels bound for Europe with couriers paid to retrieve the material when the ship reaches Europe
the Panama-flagged bulker Phoenician M arrived in the Turkish port of Eregli transporting coal from South America
The master of the vessel reportedly complained of lax security and requested more cameras and later told the Turkish authorities that there had been weak security while the vessel was loading in Colombia
Turkish authorities searching the vessel found 137 kg of cocaine mixed in among the coal
The master, first officer, and eight crewmembers were put on trial in Turkey on smuggling charges. The crewmembers were acquitted but the captain and officer received 30-year jail sentences, now being appealed, with the Turkish authorities focusing on the command responsibilities.
Cocaine has been found hidden aboard vessels, attached to the exterior, or smuggled in containers. The European Union launched a concerted program this year to disrupt smuggling operations and reduce the flow of illegal drugs through its major seaports.

Seafarers reported discovery to police while at anchor off Itaqui
A Polish Steamship crew have thwarted a drug-smuggling attempt on their bulker in Brazil.
The G1 website reported that Brazilian police seized half a tonne of cocaine found by the seafarers on the 80,000-dwt Jawor (built 2010) while the vessel was at anchor off Itaqui in Maranhao state.
Police said the drugs were discovered shortly before the Bahamas-flagged bulker moored in the port.
Polish Steamship spokesman Krzysztof Gogol told the Polish Press Agency that crew members found several 40 kg packages of the drug, wrapped in black plastic.
It is believed they were planted on the ship at night using a small boat.
The haul was the largest ever found in the state.
Crew members had been due to be interviewed by officers on Monday. None has been taken into custody.
The vessel remained anchored in the port on Tuesday.
The Jawor had arrived from Rotterdam on 2 October, AIS data showed.
Polish news network TVP World said the seizure was made on Friday.
The Jawor’s shipping agent called in police, who arrived by helicopter, after being notified by the ship’s master.
The bulker was due to load grain bound for Cartagena in Spain.
Polish Steamship said vessels are being used more often on the major drug-trafficking route from South America to Europe.
The 20-strong crew were Polish, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Romanian.

A University of Dayton alumna recently named a National Science Foundation program director returned to campus last month to give a seminar and discuss career paths with graduate and undergraduate biology students.
Jodie Jawor earned her doctorate degree in biology from the University in 2002. Most recently, she served as both an affiliate research scientist at New Mexico State University and a temporary program director at the NSF. This summer, she accepted a permanent position as program director in the Behavioral Systems cluster in the Division of Integrative Organismal Systems in the NSF’s Biological Sciences Directorate.
Jawor spent two days on campus in September to present a seminar about her doctoral research on ornamental structures in northern cardinals and where that work led in terms of her post-doctoral research and academic career. She also gave a guest lecture in associate professor Ryan McEwan’s ecological restoration class, and met with faculty and students individually and in small groups.
“I thought the undergraduates were great,” Jawor said. “The group of young women who toured me around campus were asking me insightful questions and they had some very strong plans about what they would like to do after graduation.”
She was similarly impressed with the graduate students, who sought her advice about available career paths and how to prepare for future success.
As program director, Jawor manages research funded by her NSF cluster area, which includes animal behavior and its mechanisms. This includes managing existing awards, reviewing new research from award recipients and determining the best future use of federal funds.
She said the University of Dayton helped her develop a broad interest in scientific questions within the animal behavior area, beyond her specific research focus.
“That certainly helps when one is sitting there contemplating, ‘What is the research that is moving the field forward very strongly?’” she explained. “Having a broad interest helps you to be able to figure that out.”
Jawor’s doctoral research looked at the function of multiple sexually selected ornamental structures in northern cardinals. For example, a male bird’s tall crest, bright red body coloration and black mask all communicate something about itself to females of the species. While those traits are reduced in females because of natural selection, such as their coloration being muted to avoid attracting predators to their nests, she found females also use ornaments to communicate.
“It’s not the first work, but some of the very early work with female ornamentation was work that I had done,” Jawor said.
Biology professor Albert Burky served on Jawor’s graduate committee and witnessed many of her research progress presentations. They also had adjacent offices and became friends, enjoying social as well as scientific interactions.
“Jodie is an outstanding behavioral biologist and has made a career of her work on cardinals,” Burky said, citing her many research publications and awards. “She continues her field research and is giving back to others as a program officer at NSF. UD should be proud.”
Jawor’s seminar marked her first visit to campus in nearly 15 years. When she was last here, ground had just been broken for the Science Center connector between Sherman and Wohlleben halls.
“It was nice to see that in its finished form,” she said. “It was always a very pretty campus, but I think it is even more attractive now. There have been a lot of nice improvements.”
Her advice to students is to get outside and enjoy nature — not surprising, given that she did her cardinal research at Dayton’s Aullwood Audubon Center.
“If you’re an undergraduate and you’re stressed about finals, going for a walk outside is just going to calm you down and you never know what you’re going to see,” Jawor said. “Maybe if you’re lucky you’ll run across one of the graduate students who are doing research in the area you walk through and you can ask them questions and learn something new.”

The Churches of Peace located in the towns of Jawor and Świdnica in the Silesia region of south-western Poland are the largest timber-framed Baroque ecclesiastical buildings in Europe
They were built in the mid-17th century to a scale and complexity unknown in European wooden architecture before or since
following the provisions of the Peace of Westphalia
which concluded the Thirty Years’ War in 1648
The terms of the peace treaty effectively eradicated the Evangelical Church in the Silesian hereditary principalities directly controlled by the Holy Roman Emperor
who constituted the majority of the population in these areas
were deprived of the religious freedom they had hitherto enjoyed and lost almost all of their churches
It was only courtesy of Swedish diplomatic intervention that permission was granted to build three churches
Lengthy and expensive efforts were made to secure imperial consent
imposed exceptionally strict conditions: the churches were to be located beyond town boundaries
within an area strictly defined by imperial officials; they were to be built of wood and clay; they could not feature a tower; and their construction was to be completed within one year
The architect and engineer Albrecht von Säbisch had to reconcile these requirements with the expectations of a large Evangelical community for whom these were to be the only churches
Using traditional materials and technologies
the architect created a set of buildings that represented the pinnacle of timber-framing construction technology
The centuries-long timber-frame tradition allowed carpenters to erect buildings that could survive for hundreds of years
in spite of the impermanence of the materials used
The Church of the Holy Spirit in Jawor was built in 1654–1655 as a rectangular three-aisled basilica with a three-sided chancel of reduced form
The Church of the Holy Trinity in Świdnica was built in 1656–1657 as a three-aisled basilica with a Greek cross ground plan
The third of the Churches of Peace allowed under the Peace of Westphalia was built in Głogów in 1652
Both of the surviving churches feature multi-tier galleries
thanks to which the capacity of building was extended to about seven thousand people each
integrates exuberant Baroque forms and complex imagery into their architectural framework in a unique way that celebrates the coexistence of Baroque art and Lutheran theology
and reflects the social hierarchy of the time
the Churches of Peace are masterpieces of skilled handicraft
Because of their technological complexity and size
the Churches of Peace were never duplicated elsewhere and remain without peer
The total area of the serial inscription amounts to 0.23 ha and the total area of the buffer zones amounts to 12 ha
Criterion (iii): The Churches of Peace are outstanding testimony to an exceptional act of tolerance on the part of the Catholic Habsburg Emperor towards Protestant communities in Silesia in the period following the Thirty Years’ War in Europe
Criterion (iv): As a result of conditions imposed by the Emperor
the Churches of Peace required the builders to implement pioneering constructional and architectural solutions of a scale and complexity unknown before or since in wooden architecture
The success may be judged by their survival to the present day
Criterion (vi): The Churches of Peace bear exceptional witness to a particular political development in Europe in the 17th century of great spiritual power and commitment
Within the boundaries of the serial property are located all the elements necessary to sustain the Outstanding Universal Value of the Churches of Peace in Jawor and Świdnica
including the original structures of the wooden frameworks in-filled with clay panels (which are integrally combined with the historical extensions that were added over time)
and the elements of the interior décor and furnishings
In the vicinity of each church but outside the property are located the parish buildings essential for the functioning of the church community
The historically shaped spatial integrity between each church and its surroundings has been preserved
The silhouette of the entire architectural complex is clearly visible in each townscape
The property does not suffer from adverse effects of development and/or neglect
The Churches of Peace survive in fully authentic form
particularly regarding their locations and settings
as evidenced by their unaltered emplacement
the structural system and materials used in their construction
and the preservation of the original function of these Evangelical-Augsburg parish churches
Architectural features (such as galleries and guild and family box pews)
and furnishings that were added after the initial construction are consistent with the original architectural forms and maintain a cohesive artistic unity
Renovation and conservation work (including preventive conservation measures) carried out on the churches has preserved their Outstanding Universal Value and authenticity by slowing down the processes of deterioration
A full programme of conservation is applied solely to individual elements of the décor and furnishings
The only new technological elements introduced in both buildings are alarm and fire prevention systems
There are no potential threats and risks identified for the property
The Churches of Peace in Jawor and Świdnica
which are regularly used for religious services
are legally protected under the regulations on the protection of monuments
implemented by the national monument protection services
Responsibility for their guardianship and management lies with their owners
the Evangelical-Augsburg parishes in Jawor and Świdnica
which are legally entitled to carry out and finance conservation works
Renovation and conservation tasks in each case require approval of the planned work and relevant permission from the state conservation services
Sustaining the Outstanding Universal Value
and integrity of the property over time will require the development of a Management Plan as a strategic document in order to ensure the effective protection of the churches and their surroundings

The woman was returning home to Carlsbad from Oregon when the vehicle she was in was hit Monday on Highway 101
The woman who died Monday afternoon in a five-vehicle crash on Highway 101 south of Healdsburg has been identified as a 25-year-old Southern California resident
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman as Audrey Jawor of Carlsbad
Jawor was sitting in the back seat of a black Hyundai Tucson when the crash happened at about 1 p.m
Drivers were slowing for road construction near the Old Redwood Highway exit when the Hyundai was hit by a Dodge pickup
according to the California Highway Patrol
After graduating from San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic High School
working as a caregiver and with youth with developmental disabilities
Jawor also worked as a youth programs coordinator at Outdoor Outreach
a nonprofit devoted to getting kids outdoors
“I believe everyone deserves the opportunity and resources to experience our beautiful earth!” Jawor wrote in her Outdoor Outreach bio
”So the fact that I get to be apart of an organization that gives those opportunities and resources to youth within our community who might not have ever had those experiences otherwise
is a pretty incredible thing I am very grateful for.“
Jawor’s sister was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome
Jawor moved back to the San Diego area to help care for her
“That’s exactly the kind of person she was,” Myers said
she loved her dog Molly and she loved her family.”
The driver of the pickup that struck the Hyundai
identified by the CHP as 47-year-old Todd Beth of Santa Rosa
did not slow down approaching the construction zone
authorities said Beth was driving “at an unsafe speed for conditions.”
who was the head football coach at Healdsburg High School from 2012 through 2016
had not been cited or charged in connection with the crash as of Wednesday morning
said investigators with his agency were working with the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office “to determine what charges may be appropriate.” He noted that Beth is cooperating with the investigation
Investigators on Wednesday had not determined why Beth failed to slow to the pace of traffic as he approached the construction zone
“It’s a straightaway roadway and we don’t know why he didn’t see (the slowdown),” deRutte said
“What was distracting to him is what’s still under investigation.”
Investigators concluded that Beth was not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
The driver of the Hyundai and her other passenger
a woman who had been sitting in the front seat
were both taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with injuries
The CHP is seeking information about the crash and is urging witnesses to call the Santa Rosa CHP office at 707-588-1400

MI - A Norton Shores business owner had some blunt words Monday for the judge tasked with sentencing a woman who stole between $100,000 to $640,000 from his company
owner of Jawor Machine & Wire in Norton Shores
Hicks of Muskegon County's 14th Circuit Court sentenced Karen Jean Bohn
to minimum 20 months and maximum 20 years in state prison for felony embezzlement
The amount of restitution will be decided at a later court hearing
Bohn was convicted of embezzling at least $100,000 or more
and the prosecutor's office has said the total amount taken is uncertain but could be up to $639,882
who was employed as the bookkeeper for Jawor Machine & Wire
embezzled money for 11 years through a credit card and extra payroll checks
Bohn said she was sorry she "betrayed" others
said that Bohn didn't keep the money for herself but funneled it to her two children
"She didn't benefit in any way," Pannucci said
"An enabling mother would basically die for her kids
Pannucci argued for a jail sentence instead of prison
One reason he gave was that a new job she had that would enable her to start paying the restitution
if she was allowed to keep working on the county's work-release program
Her new employer had even gone as far as to write a letter to Judge Hicks in Bohn's favor
Bohn's current employer seems to like her," Hicks said
Bohn had worked for Jawor for 15 years. In an earlier interview with MLive Muskegon Chronicle
Jawor said he didn't suspect anything because "she's such a sweet-acting woman."
Jawor said he started his business 31 years ago in his garage with a few thousand dollars his mother left him
The embezzling led to layoffs and prevented Jawor from buying more machines to expand his business
"With the lost profit I could have paid higher wages
had peace of mind and less stress," Jawor said

MI — Blueberries are a way of life at Jawor Brothers Blueberry Farms & Country Store in Ravenna and its pies are a wonderful result of the care that goes into their fruits of their labor
The country store was the last stop on an all-day pie-tasting trip with the MLive crew as part of the Michigan's Best Pie contest that resulted in Jawor's netting the most Muskegon-area votes.
The family-owned and family-operated business hosted a wonderful hour of pie-tasting and a bonus lesson in pie making
completes the local pie tasting while the MLive search continues statewide
both the double crust and blueberry crumble-top pies
are clearly a local favorite and for good reason: They're consistently good
thanks to a pie-making method the family has perfected over the years
Likely the most popular of their pies is the Cream Cheese Pie
Chocolate pie and peanut butter pie are also popular treats at the store as well
Peggy Manzer worked for the family on the farm before being asked to run the store
She bakes pies daily and says she enjoys every minute of it
"Blueberries is who we are," she said
while making a double-crust blueberry pie on Monday
"Everyone who works here makes pies."
The pie crusts are "hand rolled" every day
There is no lard and no butter in the crusts
but she wouldn't expand on the family's secret pie crust recipe
"The biggest thing is making them one at a time," Manzer said
The blueberry filling is made in one big batch and scooped into the pie crusts
"You'll taste a little of bit of cinnamon," she said of the flavor
The store only uses Jersey blueberries for their pies and goes through about 15,000 of them a year for pies and desserts
They grow and process their own blueberries

MI - Karen Jean Bohn worked for 15 years as the bookkeeper for Jawor Machine & Wire
a small tool-and-die maker at 6009 Norton Center Drive in Norton Shores
she allegedly stole big sums of money from the company - possibly as much as two-thirds of a million dollars
of Hesperia now faces trial on a potential 20-year felony charge of embezzlement of $100,000 or more
The actual amount allegedly stolen isn't certain but may be up to $639,882
chief assistant Muskegon County prosecutor
It's alleged that Bohn embezzled money from January 2005 through December 2015 through the use of a credit card and extra payroll checks she issued herself
After an investigation by the Norton Shores Police Department
She later waived her probable-cause hearing and was bound over for trial in Muskegon County Circuit
where the case was assigned to Judge Timothy G
Company owner James Jawor feels betrayed by his longtime trusted employee
I should be retired," Jawor said in an interview
"That woman really put a crunch in my own life
"She's such a sweet-acting woman you'd never ever suspect something," Jawor said
The alleged siphoning of money also has led to layoffs in the past and prevented Jawor from buying more machines to expand his business
but the company has employed as many as eight people
Bohn is alleged to have used various methods to embezzle
including getting a credit card in her own name using company information
Jawor said the alleged embezzlement came to light after the fraud department of the credit-card company contacted him
Jawor said he started his business 31 years ago in his garage with a few thousand dollars his mother had left him when she died
The business struggled during the recessions of 2001 and 2008 and has been in debt for a number of years

John Jawor is anxious to show off his precious jewel
the head pro at historic Plum Hollow Country Club
can't wait for the 104th Michigan Amateur Golf Championship to tee-off on Monday
He believes the players will find his course challenging and the public will find it appealing
who started as assistant pro in 1986 and became head pro in 2005
"It's hidden in the heart of the city and it's just a beautiful traditional course that not many people have played
"We have such rolling terrain that you wouldn't anticipate in a city like this," he says
It's a very straight-forward golf course that competitors tend to like
They will enjoy playing the golf course and it's fun to play every day."
Plum Hollow has hosted many prestigious tournaments since its founding in 1921
was held at the Southfield-based course in 1947
It was the site of the 1943 Ryder Cup Matches and played host to three Michigan PGA championships (1929
The Colt and Alison designed layout over the picturesque terrain was the site of the 2004 GAM Championship
this is the first Michigan Amateur Championship to be played at Plum Hollow
It's the biggest Amateur tournament we've held to date," Jawor says
"It's a great course for skilled competitors or members alike."
par-70 traditional lay-out is in pristine shape
dangerous run-offs and fast greens on the plush private course which includes five par-3 holes
1 and 18) which club members play will be scaled down to par-4s for the Amateur
Jawor cautions that while it's not extremely long
participants must be very careful with shot selection
"Even though it's shorter than some of the modern-day courses
it will hold its own as far as scoring," Jawor says
but you have to hit it straight because the rough is so healthy that if you get it just a little ways off the fairways
it's tough to control the distance with your irons because the grass is so long
it doesn't affect it as much as if you're hitting something longer
You just can't control the flight of the ball," he says
"If they hit it straight and if they're good putters
Jawor eagerly awaits what figures to be a big week at Plum Hollow
"I'm just anxious to see if people think as much of this place as I do and the members do," Jawor says
"Because whenever we have qualifiers or other tournaments
"We want people to see what a fine golf course we have here
We have a whole bunch of volunteers who are proud of this place and are excited to show off their club
they love their golf course and they are very loyal." he said
"They are very protective and affectionate for their course

MI – When it comes to agriculture in Muskegon County
it’s about much more than pitchforks and manure
That was obvious as the Muskegon County Farm Bureau took a group of elected officials and members of the West Michigan farm community on a tour of three locations in southeast Muskegon County
The Ravenna-area operations of Swanson Pickle Co.
Jawor Brothers Blueberries and denDulk Dairy Farms are familiar to many in rural Muskegon County
But to drive by those operations tells little of the high-tech operations that are central to the Muskegon farm sector which has become part of a global agricultural system
2.5 million pounds of mainly fresh blueberries are shipped every season to supply major national retail outlets such as Wal-Mart
Third-generation business owner Jeff Jawor also notes that Muskegon County berries processed out of his company’s new packing facility at 7545 Heights Ravenna end up on food shelves in Canada
Tuesday’s agricultural industry tour was about reminding the community of the economic power of farms and food processing operations
Total annual revenues from both crop and livestock sales on the 525 farms in Muskegon County are $91 million
“We want to showcase what we have,” Muskegon County Farm Bureau President Ted Crowley said
“People don’t realize what modern agriculture is all about today
Agriculture has been here a longtime and it will be here for a longtime into the future.”
Crowley is operating the farm on which he was born
working with his two sons to produce corn and soybeans on 450 acres off Pontaluna Road south of Ravenna
which included a state representative and two Muskegon County commissioners
The family business produces 1.15 million bushels of pickles a year providing a major supply to a northern Indiana processor of pickle chips for hamburger chains such as McDonald’s and Heinz’s Holland pickle processing plant
The company has 20 year-round employees with up to 60 working during the summer months
It receives up to 1 million pounds of pickles a day through the growing season
filling its pickle vats in 10 weeks and moving that product to pickle processing plants over the next 10 months
This is the busy processing season at Swanson Pickle when the 16 suppliers of cucumbers from around the state bring loads of fresh product to Swanson’s for cleaning
Some 95 percent of the fresh product ends up the 1,370 salt-brine vats that hold 7,500 gallons each
Once processed and allowed to ferment for up to a month and a half
the pickles stay in the vats for up to a year waiting to be shipped to the pickle processors
Swanson has 2,000 of its own acres producing fresh pickles in the Ravenna area
which provides about 40 percent of the supply his company needs each year
“Sometimes it’s hard to imagine where all of these pickles go,” Swanson told the 25 Farm Bureau members who joined the elected officials for the county tour
“And we are not the only processing plant like this in Michigan
But I guess it’s a big country in which we can sell.”
The Jawor Brothers Blueberries began in 1962 with Jeff Jawor joining his father’s company in 1991 when they had 185 acres of bushes
the family harvests 700 acres of blueberries
selling through the MBG Marketing group here in Michigan
The processing season goes from the first of July through September
270 farm workers in the fields and 25 on each of two shifts in the new packing facility
Jawor said he could use another 100 farm workers if he could find them
“Michigan is the number one blueberry producer in the world and our demand is growing because there has been a health-halo put over blueberries,” Jawor said of the health benefits promoted with the fruit
led to the new 28,000-square-foot packing facility at 7545 Heights Ravenna being built in 2010
The company has just opened a farm story and has 15 acres of blueberry bushes growing out back for a new “U-pick” operation expected to open in the next few years
“The average person doesn’t understand the technology in these food processing operations,” said state Rep
The final stop was the huge dairy farm operation at nearby denDulk
DenDulk’s “concentrated animal feeding operation” has 3,100 jersey milk cows and produces 160,000 pounds of milk a day
“Agriculture is a hidden jewel we have in Muskegon County,” county Commissioner Marv Engle said
“These companies are efficient and competitive and nobody really realize they are here
It is refreshing to see that such entrepreneurs have created such successful businesses in Muskegon.”

Ravenna players run on Citizens Field for their season-opening game against Whitehall on Friday
In the background are the woods behind the visitors' stands of the stadium
.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Scott DeCamp | sdecamp1@mlive.comKyle Jawor was not seeing a mirage
I looked out and I might have seen somebody sitting up in a tree,” said Ravenna’s athletic director
about looking across Citizens Field into the woods behind the visitors' stands during the Bulldogs' season-opening game against Whitehall Friday night
Those tree-climbers happened to be 2020 Ravenna High School alumni and former Bulldogs football players Hunter Funk and Trevor Sterken
Funk said they climbed about 20 feet up a tree
located in a clearing where they could see the action
The buddies spent the second quarter in the tree before they got a little cold and decided to leave
but Whitehall used a big second half to hand Ravenna a 48-0 defeat
we were sitting in the middle-school parking lot (west of the field) by the swings and stuff and there’s a little trail back there (in the woods)
‘Maybe we can find a tree to sit in,’ you know – get a better view
because it’s kind of hard to see from like the back of the end zone,” Funk said
“(Sterken) helped me up to like the first branch because it was pretty high
but then it was easy after that – just climb up.”
Ravenna's Hunter Funk poses for a portrait during last year's MLive Muskegon Chronicle high school football media in Muskegon
It’s a different game now with high school sports being played amid the COVID-19 pandemic
Social-distancing restrictions are in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus
only two spectators per student-athlete are allowed for indoor and outdoor sporting events
Jawor said that the Ravenna school district’s objective is quarantining the area of play in an effort to protect those inside the facility
But when it comes to areas outside of the facility
the wooded area behind the visitors' stands at Ravenna’s football field is not on school property
He believes it is property of nearby Ravenna Free Methodist Church or possibly even privately owned
have good intentions in trying to see their team play
but he prefers that everybody errs on the side of safety and respects the guidelines so that the school can do its part in mitigating the virus
Ravenna's Trevor Sterken poses for a portrait during last year's MLive Muskegon Chronicle high school football media in Muskegon
Jawor pointed out that high school football players have already lost at least a couple weeks of their season and he does not want them to lose any more
parking in the church parking lot and walked over and kind of acted as an impromptu student section,” Jawor said
it can make you a little nervous when the potential of an Oakridge game where their kids get wind of it and they want to come tailgate and our kids are tailgating in the same area
“We understand everybody’s want and yearning to be part of the game and we know how much that is part of a fabric of the community
but we also know if Kyle Jawor missed two football games his senior year of football
I would have been absolutely heartbroken.”
People in the Muskegon area are passionate about high school football
and these unprecedented times of reduced crowds allowed in stadiums makes it difficult for fans
Whitehall hosted Ravenna for a junior varsity football game Thursday night and fans lined the fence overlooking the field on the visitors' side
fans stood or they sat in lawn chairs or in their vehicles and peaceably took in the action
the atmosphere on Warner as far as the stadium an hour and a half before the JV game
there wasn’t a parking spot there,” Whitehall varsity football coach Tony Sigmon said
is that with the way that the vantage point sits
the water tower is probably going to be a pretty legit tailgate spot as well
It will be interesting to see how all of that unfolds for us locally and what that looks like because obviously the high school has jurisdiction on some of those things; for other places
Whitehall athletic director Greg Russell sports his Vikings face covering while working the junior varsity football game in Whitehall
In the background is the water tower and hill where fans park along Warner Street to catch a glimpse of games
Whitehall AD Greg Russell said that he does not have a problem with fans watching from behind the fence
as long as spectators are respectful of the property and nearby street and they do not make physical contact with players during the contest
he has fond memories of his recent playing days at Ravenna and he takes great pride in his alma mater and the community
and we just don’t like realize how much we’re going to miss it; like
it was hard but I think after (Friday) night it’s just crazy -- it’s so much different,” he said
“We all wanted to go out there and play and seeing them lose like that
and then you think about playing yourself and wanting to go back

It signifies future hope, maybe even miracles, but definitely the impact of one team from the international medical organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Bangladesh
The team works in the neonatal intensive care unit in the Goyalmara Green Roof Hospital, run by MSF, on the edge of the largest refugee camp on the planet
There they look after babies fighting for survival in the critical first 28 days after birth
The idea for the mural originally came from a young Canadian nurse who wanted to visualise
for both the staff and the mothers of the sick children on the ward
Moments we could all celebrate that the seemingly impossible is sometimes possible
They decided to make a mark on the wall for every newborn child that survived their difficult arrival into the world
Many of the families who come to the hospital are Rohingya – an ethnic minority group from Myanmar
In 2017, a violent crackdown by the Myanmar authorities forced hundreds of thousands of Rohingya people to flee for their lives across the border
Almost a million are now living in overcrowded conditions
To treat this newly arrived and highly vulnerable community
MSF’s response included setting-up two hospitals
three healthcare centres and multiple life-saving healthcare services
we do not manage to save every child in the ward
But every child is treated with the same devotion
With every young patient we know that we tried our best and gave care and dignity in a place where those values were sometimes missing

a massive exodus of 745,000 Rohingya refugees began to flee Myanmar
nearly one million people remain stranded in vast refugee camps
In that first month, a concerted campaign of violence was unleashed by the Myanmar authorities against Rohingya people in the country’s Rakhine State. By the end of the year, more than 660,000 people had crossed the border into Bangladesh
Those arriving in Bangladesh shared stories with MSF about their villages being systematically raided and burnt by the Myanmar military
with reports of women and children being raped and killed

Those with foodie tendencies will have a great time at the inaugural Newport Beach Wine & Food Festival to be held at the Civic Center grounds September 19 – 21
Newport Beach has been lacking a major food event since the end of the “Taste of Newport” in 2012
and though this is not designed to take the place of that iconic event
Newport Beach Wine & Food Festival is meant to be an annual event that puts Newport Beach on the worldwide food stage
those that love food and want to see the pros in action will be entertained and fed by world-renowned chefs such as Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters” winner Rick Bayless
Newport’s own Jamie Gwen (“Cutthroat Kitchen” winner)
cuisine from top local restaurants and chefs
and musical offerings including James Torme (son of Mel)
but I was more curious about the “who” and the “why,” so I met with Festival founders Stefanie Salem
Kelly Jawor and Lindsey Henn (missing was Event Director Katy Higgins)
These four powerful and impressive women are a wealth of resources
I wondered if this is designed to be a new iteration of the “Taste of Newport?” The answer is “no,” but is modeled after similar events throughout the world
The focus is to create a worldwide food and wine event for the city
Stefanie sent notes to famous chefs and got a great response
so she submitted their ideas to the city for approval
and also to use the Civic Center as a venue
Stefanie gathered and grew her Lady Power team and put their plan in action
These self-professed foodies enlisted chefs
and designed an event to support the community as well as charity
The charities they chose are Project Hope Alliance which is committed to helping homeless children
After all expenses are paid the net revenue will be split between these two great causes
This event is not looking to draw crowds of people that some “taste of” events do
and those that want to meet in an “intimate environment” those culinary geniuses they admire
The ultimate goal is to bring in an audience from outside Southern California and create a food-centric introduction to the city
The Lady Power team will be entering this festival in the “Global Events Award” competition
Team member Katy has been a previous winner of that prestigious award
Partnering along with the city is the Newport Beach Restaurant Association
When asked “Why Newport?” Stefanie responded: “I have lived in Newport Beach for more than 10 years and have been fully immersed in its incredible culinary scene
and saw an opportunity to bring a world-class food and wine experience to Newport Beach—and I took it!”
Kelly is also a long time resident of more than 10 years
Lindsey is the daughter of Councilmember and former Mayor Mike Henn
so Newport Beach blood runs through her veins as well
Southern California is not without world class food and wine festivities
All three ladies attended the recent Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival
When asked if they saw or learned anything at the L.A
Stefanie said “Trying Richard Blais’ food and chatting with him at the Festival made us even more excited for what we can do here
Festival brought a grand tasting experience on a larger scale
ours will be more intimate and full of special touches
We also provide guests unlimited access to all daytime programming for the price of one ticket
including eight live cooking demos each day.”
Single day passes are $195, or $350 for both days, which begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. For more information contact NewportWineAndFood.com

A well-known global company decided to place their new coffee factory in the 20.000-inhabitant Polish city of Jawor
which recently acts like a super-magnet for large-scale global investments
Jacobs' initial declarations from December 2022 mentioned a budget of EUR 63 million
after obtaining a grant from the Polish government in the amount of EUR 16,5 million
the project was updated and developed - and ultimately its estimated cost is close to EUR 140 million
Koncern Jacobs Douwe Egberts kupił działkę w Jaworze i obiecał inwestycję za 280 mln zł. Wyda ponad dwa razy więcej:https://t.co/gjGDZ0twl1
