The seafood major has offered support for the affected workers
including offering job opportunities at the Koszalin facility
Denmark-headquartered seafood processor Espersen plans to close its Klaipėda plant in Lithuania and transfer production to Poland
In what Espersen described as a “strategic consolidation” of its European operations
processing conducted at Klaipėda will now shift during the summer to its site in Koszalin
Espersen said the move is due to “evolving market conditions” and the “need to optimise operational efficiency”
It added that the switch will allow the company to achieve a “more agile and cost-effective operation,” with the Koszalin facility offering potential for further expansion if demand rises
Espersen has assured “support” for the impacted workers at Klaipėda
including providing job opportunities “where possible” at the Koszalin plant
CEO Tino Bendix, who joined the business last year from fellow Finnish group Orkla
particularly for our colleagues in Klaipėda
but it is necessary to align our primary production footprint with the realities of the market.”
Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard
Stay proactive with real-time data and expert analysis
Bendix confirmed that 306 people are employed at the Lithuania plant
which he said produces “blocks and natural products” but no value-added items
The final production run is slated for the end of June
The CEO added that the Klaipėda and Koszalin facilities produce the same products and the Poland site
the company’s sole operation in the country
has current capacity to absorb the additional volumes from Lithuania
No further consolidation plans are in the pipeline
Espersen explained in the statement that the seafood sector is facing “shifts in demand”
with market projections indicating volume growth will remain “stable or slightly decline” over the coming years
the processing giant is operating with surplus production capacity across its European sites and consolidation is a “logical step to enhance efficiency and maintain long-term competitiveness”
Bendix added: “By consolidating production into a single
we are positioning Espersen for future success
and ensuring that we remain a reliable partner to our customers.”
with a focus on white fish species such as cod
It also operates production facilities in Denmark
The company also confirmed that its primary production in Vietnam will remain “strategically important” to the business and “continue unchanged”
In April, Espersen announced plans to invest in its UK seafood factory in Grimsby on the east coast of England inherited as part of its acquisition of Iceland Seafood International’s local operations

Experts have discovered an unusual medieval burial that shows evidence of "anti-vampire" measures being taken
The bizarre archaeological discovery was made at a site on Góra Chełmska, a ridge near Koszalin in northwestern Poland, the Lublin Provincial Conservator of Monuments said in a Facebook post
The skeletons of two children were found buried in pits without coffins
They have been dated to the 13th century based on the ground layers they were found in and associated pottery fragments
The burials were found in a place that is not associated with any of the known cemeteries on Chełmska
But the biggest "astonishment" was that one of the graves displayed characteristics of an "anti-vampire" burial
This type of burial falls broadly under the category of "revenant" graves
it is described as a "vampire" or "anti-vampire" burial
the term revenant refers to an individual who comes back from the dead as a spirit or reanimated corpse
Revenant graves dating back thousands of years have been found in various locations across Europe
These burials are characterized by evidence of precautions taken to prevent the dead from rising
Such measures could include placing large stones on the legs of the deceased or piercing the body with a lance to fix it to the ground
In the case of one of the recently discovered remains in Poland
the child's head appears to have been removed from its torso
the skull was laid face down in the burial cavity
and stones were placed on the deceased's torso
The burial was most likely marked by two pillars
cutting off the head or pressing the body with a stone are among the methods used to prevent a person believed to be a demonic being from leaving the grave," the conservator said in the Facebook post
The newly uncovered burials were documented
and the skeletons were excavated from the grave cavities
The remains are now awaiting anthropological analysis
which archaeologists will yield more insights into this unusual discovery

“There is no festival without conversation”
by Marta Bałaga
the artistic director of “The Youth and Film” – The Festival of Film Debuts in Koszalin
This year scheduled to take place from 1-5 of September, the Koszalin Debut Film Festival in Poland readies to celebrate its 39th
as pointed out by its artistic director Janusz Kijowski
you said that “honesty for honesty” is also the festival’s slogan
because long conversations often follow screenings here
Janusz Kijowski: It was invented by the so-called “founding fathers” of the festival in the 1970s
Film journalist Czesław Dondziło coined this slogan and it became the motto of the subsequent editions
these events are all about patting each other on the back
We are faithful to this formula and I am glad it has been adopted by the young artists
Although youth itself is not some distinguishing feature
[Polish artist] Witkacy said that “young is what’s wise and courageous”
That’s why I sometimes envied Andrzej Wajda’s youth
Why organize a festival – this question is quite common now
I would say it’s more of an attraction for the city
so that our audience can see how movies are watched in America
I was very afraid that we would share the fate of other Polish events
that our festival would be “remote” or virtual
to see and greet each other — even with elbow bumps
because there is no festival without conversation
so how do viewers participate in discovering them
In getting to know someone who is just starting? This is the specificity of our festival
relying on what you aptly described as “discovering”
we see the image of our reality through the eyes of another generation
but independent artistic cinema doesn’t really exist outside of these debuts
only few filmmakers can afford to stay independent – like Almodóvar
Altman used to be known as this independent madman
and yet at the end of his life he had to move to Canada because the Hollywood road roller tried to crush him as well
If someone is still interested in independent cinema
because the audience doesn’t really want to delve into the depths of the artist’s soul
I felt like I knew all these foreign cities already – it was thanks to the movies
we watch some crazy blockbusters happening in space
Because when you watch the films of young artists
they show reality that’s not deceived by TV propaganda
We are after the elections and to cleanse your body and head
Only in these films can you see where we really live
Do you think that starting a conversation with the viewer
I remember when I came to Koszalin with my first films – there was this fear of how they would be received
but also great satisfaction when my intentions were clear
Understood not just by these newspaper wise-asses — I hope I’m not offending you here — but also by those who came to the cinema to see artists they don’t actually know
as we are in the middle of a technological revolution: we are always glued to our smartphones
We are becoming more and more introverted and it’s not easy to open up
I have been its artistic director for 13 years

Superbooth 22: Xaoc Devices intros Sofia unique analog oscillator
Koszalin a CV-controllable frequency shifter
The news always comes last minute before the start of the Superbooth 22
I am very pleased that some companies followed my request and made their new announcements public earlier
This also applies to Xaoc Devices from Poland
which will come to Superbooth with five new modules
The complete feature sets are not yet out yet
but the developers give us a first look at the upcoming modules
Of course again in the classic red and black colors
The front panel is available in standard silver or black as an addon
The biggest addition and one of the highlights of the 2022 Xaoc Devices wave is called Sofia
It’s a new advanced analog oscillator with an original waveform concept that comes with a set of unusual features
the sound is a mixture of a warm saturated base tone and two modulating ripple elements
The module has a wide range of shaping parameters including a bi-directional knob with intriguing LEDs for the pitch and a wide range octave knob
Sofia also comes with a plethora of input controls and separate outputs for numerous components of the sound-shaping chain
The developers promise extensive self-patching and complex animations of the final waveform
Sofia is capable to create vowel-like timbres
warm and warm and fuzzy sine-like evolving tones with unique bits on it
The heavy design reminds me a lot of the Odessa harmonic oscillator
which sounds super unique and out of this world
The linked sound demo makes you want more sounds from this upcoming analog oscillator
Sounds very wild and definitely not like a classic off-the-shelf oscillator
Last year Dieter Doepfer caused a big wow at the SB22 with his Frequency Shifter module
Soon there will also be one from Xaoc Devices
It’s called Koszalin and is a full stereo frequency shifter (2 ins/4 outs) offering both quasi-exponential and linear frequency change of up to +/-5kHz
Plus it gives you full stereo feedback with CV control
Frequency shifting results in linear translation of signal spectrum producing all kinds of atonal sounds
It should not be confused with frequency scaling
Complex phase cancellation patterns occurring with frequency shifting and deep feedback produce spectacular barber-pole effects.nds like a lot of fun
Koszalin features a whole pool of direct controllability over the feedback path including the amount
There is also a linear TZFM input making frequency modulation of any stereo audio signal possible
The first sounds are available in the linked sound demo
I didn’t check out the module in detail
but I’m already in love with the module or maybe just with the lovely
a new compact utility module made for summing multiple stereo and mono sound sources
It supports up to four signals for each section
it’s a triple summing mixer featuring three signal-adding sections with the middle one optionally fed to the top and bottom ones
The middle section has a switchable contribution between 0%
Each of the summing sections consists of high-quality opamps paired with a soft-clipping circuit for nice saturation
There is also an option to reduce the gain to -12dB in order to allow the summing of hot signals
Sounds like a super useful module for stereo systems
And for users of the Leibniz subsystem there are two module extensions
Gera allows you to mask individual bits of the digital data by the use of logical AND operation
It features 8 individual gate inputs that affect the individual bits of data
as well as 8 illuminated tact switches for manual inverting of each control input
the bit processing logic in Gera is hardware-based
so you experience no latency and the binary signals may change at extreme rates
Lastly we have Poczdam which is a binary data solution for the Xaoc Leibniz subsystem
It’s made for a bunch of different functionalities
it allows you to manually or remotely switch between two Leibniz data sources
Very handy and you can also re-clock the data with its onboard CV controllable wideband oscillator or with an external clock signal
Xaoc Devices says that Poczdam is either very useful to simplify patching in complex Leibniz setups
Or a door opener for creative patching in smaller setups including waveform splicing
Both Gera and Poczdam are exciting additions for the Leibniz subsystem
There are 5 exciting new modules to discover at the Superbooth 22 at the Xaoc Devices booth. In September, the devs had an epic modular tower
The new Xaoc Devices modules will be available in Summer 2022
You can visit Xaoc Devices at booth Z420 at Superbooth 22

A group of five teenagers died when a fire broke out as they were playing in an escape room to celebrate one of their birthdays
Authorities in the northern Polish town of Koszalin said the blaze
The group of girls had started the escape room game to celebrate one of their birthdays
Their bodies were discovered by firefighters as they tackled the blaze
had been sent to hospital suffering from burns and was not yet well enough to be questioned by fire investigators
Ambulances and fire engines were filmed by local TV stations outside a detached two-storey house with a large Escape Room sign outside in Koszalin
a city of 100,000 near Poland’s Baltic Sea coast
said on Saturday electrical wiring and lax security procedures were to cause for the deadly blaze
The fire began in a room next door to where the girls had been locked in while they played the game and they are believed to have died of carbon monoxide asphyxiation
Mr Suski said the wiring in the facility was makeshift and far too close to easily flammable material and the person in charge of the escape room was probably not present when the fire broke out
Poland's president, Andrzej Duda said on Twitter it was a “crushing tragedy” the five girls had died so early in their lives
“Five joyful girls starting out in life have had life torn away from them
May God protect their parents and loved ones," he wrote
A day of mourning for the city would be held on Sunday
Poland's interior minister, Joachim Brudzinski, has also ordered the fire brigade to make checks on all escape rooms across Poland and where necessary install fire safety controls.
Games where people are locked inside a room and must uncover clues and solve riddles to escape within a time limit have become highly popular in recent years, particularly among teenagers.
One website which lists escape rooms across Poland has details for more than 1,000 places to play, including eight locations in Koszalin alone.

Five teenage girls have died at a Polish escape room
where a fire broke out while they were celebrating a birthday
The 15-year-old girls were participating in an escape room game in Koszalin, northern Poland when a fire broke out around 5 pm local time according to the BBC.
Police spokesperson Monika Kosiec said the bodies of the five girls were found in a room near the fire when firefighters put out a blaze
A 25-year-old man was also seriously harmed and taken to hospital with burns
said on Saturday that "makeshift" electrical wiring which was too close to flammable materials was to blame for the blaze
adding that the man in charge was probably not there when the fire broke out

Polish officials are now carrying out safety checks on similar games across the country
A day of mourning has been called for Koszalin
while a number of local events have been cancelled
with Polish President Andrzej Duda calling the fire an "appalling tragedy."

The bodies of the 15-year-old victims were found Friday in the city of Koszalin after firefighters extinguished a blaze in an adjacent room. Prosecutors said that carbon monoxide inhalation was the likely cause of the deaths.
A 26-year-old man employed at the location was hospitalized with burns.
In escape room games, players are locked inside a room or building and must find clues and solve puzzles that help them get out. The rooms are highly popular among teenagers in Poland.
Koszalin prosecutor Ryszard Gasiorowski said a leak in the bottled gas heating system for the building was a probable cause of the fire. Earlier, firefighters had noted faulty electric wiring and substandard security procedures.
Gasiorowski said the fire probably broke out in the reception room and blocked the employees’ path to evacuate the girls. Autopsies will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.
He said firefighters who put out the blaze and other witnesses were being questioned.
Earlier Saturday, national fire chief Leszek Suski said that electrical wiring in the building was makeshift and too close to flammable materials.
“Security was not ensured and that led to the tragedy,” Suski said.
He said there was no proper evacuation route and a “lot of negligence” at the location.
A spokesman for local firefighters, Tomasz Kubiak, said the units responding to the blaze had to use specialized equipment and force their way into the escape room.
Poland’s interior minister has ordered fire safety inspections at more than 1,000 escape rooms in business across the country. The first inspections were being held Saturday, the Interior Ministry said. Previously, there was no official requirement for fire safety certificates at such locations.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki sent condolences to the victims’ relatives. Officials have extended psychological, psychiatric and other support to the girls’ families and to their classmates and teachers at the school they attended, A Mass was held Saturday at the local church.
Local residents were placing flowers and lights in front of the location, a detached house.
The girls, friends from one school class said, were celebrating one of their birthdays.

The government is making sure that drivers in Poland can travel on comfortable
Road investments also mean new economic development prospects for our country
Work on the S11 section between Koszalin and Bobolice has been completed
Drivers can now fully enjoy the route over 48 km long
It used to take 45 minutes to drive this section
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki attended the opening of the new expressway section
built as part of the Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads by 2030
The S11 expressway increases development and trade opportunities and creates completely new development perspectives for our country
I will be able to say in my talks with investors: come to Central Pomerania
Bobolice–Szczecinek and southwards to Piła
Poznań and further to Silesia – there is a great S11 expressway,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki
The new road will take freight lorry traffic out of the current route
which runs through the centre of Koszalin and other towns
The completion of another section will shorten travel times and improve comfort and safety
“This is the way of life for Pomerania
Central Pomerania and Northern Wielkopolska
A great way – there will be better development of these lands
and the local residents will simply be able to enjoy a better life,” added the Polish Prime Minister

It used to take 45 minutes to drive the Koszalin–Bobolice route
the S11 is to connect Kolobrzeg to Poznań and further to Silesia
We have recently commissioned nearly 25 km of the Olesno bypass in Opolskie Voivodeship
Drivers are already using this route near Poznań
For the comfort of drivers and the country’s development
the government is building modern and comfortable expressways and motorways
Bypasses are also being constructed to relieve city congestion while increasing safety in built-up areas
In December 2022, we adopted the Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads by 2030 (with an outlook until 2033). A total of PLN 294.4 billion will be allocated to implement investments
This is another edition of the largest road programme in Poland’s history
We will deliver over 6,100 km of new roads
Better road infrastructure is an incentive for investors to set up new workplaces in these locations
“Our great commitment is this: with such arteries
with a great programme of county and municipal roads
we will lead to the elimination of unemployment in many parts of the country
but they would never be there if it were not for the great investments in road infrastructure,” added Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki
Falling tree limbs in Birmingham kills one person
WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Prosecutors in northern Poland detained and brought charges Sunday against the man who designed an escape room entertainment site where five teenage girls were killed in a fire
was charged with intentionally creating a fire danger and unintentionally causing the deaths of the girls
adding that the location's heating system was faulty and there was no emergency evacuation route
A court decision is expected Monday on prosecutors' request that he be held for three months while the case proceeds
Firefighters in the city of Koszalin found the victims' bodies Friday after they extinguished a fire next to the locked room
Prosecutors say a leaky gas container inside a heater is the most likely cause of the blaze
A young man employed there was hospitalized with burns
Attorneys for the man charged said he was "deeply distraught" by the deaths and has expressed deep condolences to the families before the prosecutors
They said the 28-year-old denies the charges but because of his distress was not able to answer prosecutors' questions
fire chief Leszek Suski stressed that the escape room at a private house in the city of Koszalin

Players in escape room games are locked inside a room or building and must solve puzzles and find clues that lead them to the key that will unlock the door
the games are highly popular among teenagers in Poland
Officials have shut down 13 escape room entertainment sites for safety flaws and the prime minister asked people Sunday to report such lapses to firefighters and police
Police chief Jaroslaw Szymczyk said other people had previously posted critical remarks online about the safety of that escape room site
During a memorial Mass at Koszalin Cathedral
Bishop Edward Dajczak identified the girls by their first names as Julia
He later led public prayers in front of the house where they died
spoke after holding a meeting in which they discussed with other officials ways of improving safety at entertainment venues
Morawiecki called the girls' deaths an "immense tragedy."
more than 200 of Poland's 1,100 escape rooms have been checked
revealing a number of safety flaws that needed to be immediately fixed
Authorities ordered the closure of 13 of them
