Rally1 debutant Mārtiņš Sesks starred on a hectic Friday morning in Poland Words by Andreas Mikkelsen leads the way on Rally Poland following Ott Tänak’s early retirement while Mārtiņš Sesks holds a surprising second place in his non-hybrid Ford Puma Rally1 Mikkelsen won stages two and four while Hyundai team-mate Thierry Neuville recorded a stage win on stage three – but only because the stage was canceled after three cars had passed through due to spectator control problems Sesks was shocked to find out after Friday morning’s opening stage he’d gone 0.3s faster but the Olecko stage was more representative of his hardware deficit his car running without the 135bhp hybrid system The lead M-Sport car – which is not registered for manufacturers’ points – is now 7.4s adrift of the rally lead with 4.5s in hand to Elfyn Evans behind Evans has picked up the mantle of lead Toyota from team-mate Kalle Rovanperä taking third position on Olecko as the reigning world champion struggled with his lack of preparation Sébastien Ogier’s recce accident meant Rovanperä and co-driver Jonne Halttunen did not study any videos until arriving in Poland “It’s quite funny,” said Rovanperä at the end of stage four “Last night I was watching this [stage’s] video from the laptop With this road position we should be at least 10s faster than this time.” M-Sport team-mates Adrien Fourmaux and Grégoire Munster are separated by only 0.8s in fifth and sixth position after a big push from the latter driver on Olecko Munster set the second-fastest time on Olecko Olecko’s famous jump came close to ending Munster’s rally as he went over it without lifting but off-line and landed off the road collecting it up and continuing on his way Neuville’s road sweeping duties were compounded by a technical issue with his handbrake locking all four wheels rather than only the rears That caused a couple of overshoots on Olecko at one point causing him to miss an intersection entirely Takamoto Katsuta has fallen to last place of the Rally1 crews in eighth still expressing a lack of confidence to push with local hero Kajetan Kajetanowicz taking second place after Olecko after recording a stage win in front of his home fans Toksport pairing Oliver Solberg and Gus Greensmith have fallen away from the podium places and were both frustrated for differing reasons “Absolutely s***,” said Solberg of his Friday morning loop Greensmith meanwhile complained that a chicane on Olecko had been incorrectly implemented relative to the road book and recce: “It’s going s*** this morning,” he sumarized Sign up today and be the first to know about special offers Two Rally Poland stages in a row red flagged Andreas Mikkelsen has retaken the lead but issues with spectators have blighted Friday afternoon's action Spectator control issues are affecting proceedings at Rally Poland with both stages six and seven affected by red-flag stoppages and the latter canceled entirely which was canceled on Friday morning after only three cars had passed through was stopped again during its afternoon re-run with Andreas Mikkelsen issued a notional time due to encountering the red flag mid-stage Mārtiņš Sesks was the unlucky driver to be waiting on the start line of Wieliczki when the red flag fell his car losing brake and tire temperature while waiting and ultimately contributing to a 5.5-second loss that dropped him to fourth place Spectator control is proving to be a challenge SS7 was the fourth time in two days a stage has been interrupted Kalle Rovanperä had briefly retaken the lead on stage five but lost it again to Mikkelsen on stage six; with the morning pass of the test being canceled Rovanperä was back to struggling with imperfect pace notes “It was not easy to match the guys who did the stage in the morning,” said Rovanperä “It was a clean run with our s*** pace notes Elfyn Evans took second place from Rovanperä on stage six by only 0.1s with the reigning world champion dropping to third There was further disruption on the second pass of Olecko; after championship leader Thierry Neuville Evans and M-Sport’s Adrien Fourmaux had completed the stage it was red-flagged Not long after a safety car had entered the stage it was then called off entirely with notional times to be issued for the rest of the field Tags: , , 2024 DirtFish https://dirtfish-editorial.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/2024/06/ofzaOhaC-WRC_Poland2024_GM_086-1-780x520.jpg June 28 Legal the Olecko dairy in Poland’s Warmińsko-Mazurskie region is producing the sweet cream fudges it is famous for milk powder – that are our ingredients from our suppliers and our cows the mere mention of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie region will entice a craving for the traditional milk candies long produced here launched an effort to produce the cream fudge the old-fashioned way – without preservatives or artificial flavours.    the company was able to set up production and create a candy capable of competing with the array of other sugary treats currently on the market The project leverages Olecko’s many years of experience and candy expertise Although the company hasn’t produced the Krowka candies since the 1970s old recipes were dusted off and enhanced with modern technology and methods It all starts with the fudge candy mass being brought to a boil it is poured onto the cooling table where it stays for 30 minutes before being cut into squares and put into the roller The result is a candy that is true to its heritage and an appearance and consistency that appeals to today’s taste buds.  It is one of the most popular confections in Poland and can be found worldwide The candies are produced by a number of different companies with most coming wrapped in a white-and-yellow paper featuring a picture of a cow Although available in different variations the original recipe typically calls for milk The Olecko dairy was founded in 1927 and has been producing milk cheeses and other dairy products ever since.  Total investment for the project “Cream fudge Candy from Olecko” is EUR 171 384 (PLN 734 910) with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 69 654 (PLN 298 684) through the “Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship” Regional Operational Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period The investment falls under the priority “Support to enterprises and innovation” Zarząd Województwa Warmińsko-Mazurskiego obsługiwany przez Urząd Marszałkowski Województwa Warmińsko-Mazurskiego w Olsztynie This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page The CPFC is the leading North American pure-play III-V semiconductor wafer foundry This transfer assures uninterrupted wafer supply and a smooth transition of this industry-leading laser to ever expanding markets including LIDAR coherent and externally modulated fiber optic communications The laser features a narrow linewidth (typically 50 kHz) The laser is also available for DWDM applications as it is offered on the ITU wavelength grid It is offered as the model 1790 in 14-pin butterfly form model number 1995 in a cooled TO56 package while also offered on various standard or custom chip-on-sub mount forms Initial customer samples will be available in February with fully qualified production device availability expected in Q2CY25 "Throughout the design and qualification process we've been thrilled to partner with the team at the CPFC," said Grant Olecko "Their wafer fab is a state-of-the-art facility offering key advantages over the prior Emcore fab including supply security The CPFC's impressive world-class scientists and engineers leverage sophisticated tools and advanced process technology to help our customers achieve exceptional precision and optimized laser performance These capabilities layered with Ortel's recognized strengths in device design create a considerable advantage for customers." Or sign-in if you have an account Standing up at Agrium Inc.’s annual meeting in Calgary on Tuesday the founder of Jana Partners LLC went on a jaw-dropping rant in which he accused Agrium of breaking every rule in the book in order to steal a victory in their months-long proxy fight Article content“Usually when an election is over and you have more votes than the other side He promised to do a full investigation of the vote to determine if there were any irregularities and to pursue “all appropriate remedies” if he found any The next issue of Investor will soon be in your inbox But in reality, it appears that New York-based Jana is already moving on. The activist hedge fund has taken down the website where it published all of its Agrium research. And on Thursday, Jana revealed a 7.4% stake in Ashland Inc., a chemical company it described as “undervalued.” Regardless of how you interpret the final result, it shows that Jana’s 10-month proxy campaign got little traction with Agrium’s active institutional shareholders, who backed the company by a margin of roughly four to one. This did not come as a surprise to the Agrium camp. According to sources close to the company, Agrium knew for months that Jana had no chance to win this battle. Jana appeared to have all the momentum in the early days of the fight, because it was the only side making any noise. And it made plenty. After its initial proposal to break up the company was rebuffed, it started ripping Agrium’s corporate governance and retail performance. In the meantime, Agrium was quietly meeting with its investors and building support.  The company was also performing well, and it was clear that Agrium was not going to be easy activist prey like Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. was last year. “On the heels of CP, Jana must have concluded it was open season on Canada,” said Richard Robinson, an investment banker at Morgan Stanley who advised Agrium. “The initial board pitch demanding a break-up was boilerplate [activist] playbook with an Agrium logo. The analysis was shallow and heavily contrived, accompanied by subtle threats.” Jana got one massive boost in late March when proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) issued a scathing report against Agrium that read like a Jana press release. It recommended that shareholders elect Mr. Rosenstein and David Bullock, two of Jana’s five nominees. The report was a big surprise given that three other proxy advisors and several institutions all came out in favour of Agrium. But it appeared to work as Jana hoped. Last Monday, Jana said the two men got about 59 million votes each, apparently enough for election. Of course, that didn’t happen. In the final tally, Mr. Rosenstein got 52.3 million votes and Mr. Bullock got 45.4 million. None of the Agrium directors got less than 59.8 million. The huge gulf between the number of votes that Jana claimed it got and actually got remains a major source of contention. Jana insists that Agrium convinced investors to change their votes after the deadline. The Agrium camp rejects that claim, arguing that Jana knew it was in trouble and wanted to cobble together a last-minute deal. Either way, Agrium had no interest in negotiating by that point. And after Mr. Rosenstein’s tirade at the AGM, it is hard to imagine the company will want to engage with him ever again. “Instead of respecting the decision of shareholders he claimed to represent, Mr. Rosenstein’s speech was rife with misrepresentations, inaccuracies and removed any doubt that he was incapable of working constructively with Agrium’s board,” Mr. Robinson said. railroads by 2023 not a single zloty has been earmarked to be spent on developing the connection to Rail Baltica at the Polish side of the border with Lithuania the planned high-speed European gauge rail from Tallinn through Rīga through Kaunas won't be connected with the rest of Europe reported LSM's Russian-language site on Friday Rail Baltica is a proposed high-speed line to link Helsinki with Berlin through the Baltic capitals by 2024 The part running through Latvia is estimated to be about 265 kilometers long and cost €1.27b of which 80-85% would be covered by EU funds rus.lsm.lv was told at the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure and Development that "It does not mean that the project would not be implemented at all" The Polish government approved a national program for railway investment until 2023 on September 15 The cost of all its projects sits at PLN 67.5 billion (about €15.9b).  The implementation of the programme is primarily aimed at shortening the train travel time on the railway routes managed by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA the company responsible for maintenance of rail tracks and management of railway land in Poland.  The plan includes lengthening sections of railway lines allowing passenger trains to travel at a speed over 160 km/h The track from the border station of Trakiszki to the nearest large city - Białystok - is in an unfavorable condition for fast-speed trains that should run through the Tallin-Rīga-Kaunas-Warsaw-Berlin track with the average speed of above 120 km/h.  The Trakiszki-Białystok line as Rus.lsm.lv found out at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development Its current speed limits are 120 km/h for passenger trains and 100 km/h for freight trains about a quarter of the track has a speed limit of 30 km/h (the Olecko–Suwałki line) and only the Białystok–Ełk section - about half of the course - has been electrified The technical condition of tracks is good for 69.5% of the section’s length with speed limits and requiring a replacement of up to 30% pavement elements needing comprehensive pavement replacement and with a considerable reduction of timetable speed The first tenders for the amount of PLN 11 billion (about €2.6b) are to be announced this year already and to be spent in the next years at about the same speed a representative of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development told rus.lsm.lv that there are no plans for reconstruction and modernizing the Trakiszki-Białystok section.  "The project is on the National Railways Plan (NRP) reserve list The NRP division into the basic and reserve list is the effect of available allocation of European Union funds for 2014-2020 and national funds that can be involved," told a representative of the ministry this doesn't mean that the project will be scrapped altogether The ministry said that if "adequate funds are obtained" by generating savings during the implementation of the projects on the basic list or with money from from the European Connecting Europe Facility fund pool Though even if some funds are saved during the project there's no guarantee that they'll be spent on the Rail Baltica section by the border: "Projects will be selected according to their degree of preparation and the total pool of available funds is performing preparatory works for some of these projects it will be possible to immediately submit an application for co-financing and launch project implementation This is the case with the Rail Baltica section Białystok–Trakiszki The Ministry of Infrastructure and Development said that at the moment a feasibility study planned to be completed in April 2016 is underway and whether funding will be allotted to the line depends on its results If funds in sufficient amount are obtained construction works could be carried out between 2018 and 2021 The Polish-Lithuanian border where Rail Baltica should cross it While the fate of the Warsaw–Białystok line the second block of the Polish part of Rail Baltica and both are on the basic list of projects More than a third of the required funds for the Warsaw–Tłuszcz (Sadowne) line have been allotted already and the reconstruction of the line should be carried out next year from Sadowne to Białystok should start in 2017 and be finished in 2020 While high-speed trains are already running from Warsaw to Berlin The capital of Poland is connected with the capital of Germany with trains that beat about 600 kilometers in 5 hours and 30 minutes The key goal of the project is to renew regional integration by re-joining the Baltic states with the European rail network The project will cost Latvia about 1.27 billion euro It is co-funded by Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) The first part of the project acquired more than 80% in funding from the CEF Select Words by After the challenging conditions of Sardinia Rally Poland marks the start of a summer of high-speed gravel rallies that could prove instrumental in the fight for the 2024 World Rally Championship Poland returns to the calendar for the first time since 2017 and the softer nature of the roads surrounding Mikołajki mark it out as unique among the trio of speed events where the WRC travels from Poland to Latvia and then on to Finland The stages this weekend will be unfamiliar to some of the top-flight regulars while one driver will be making history driving a Rally1 car with its hybrid system removed Here is everything you need to know ahead of Rally Poland Ogier will take the startline for the fifth time in seven 2024 WRC events The Rally1 entry in Poland increases to nine cars as Mārtiņš Sesks makes his debut in top-level machinery This will be the first time we see a Rally1 car running with no hybrid as Sesks uses the rally to get accustomed to the Puma before driving the full-spec car at his home event in Latvia next month The rest of the M-Sport lineup is business as usual and it will be a case of building experience for both drivers Adrien Fourmaux has never competed in Poland while team-mate Grégoire Munster will be looking to build on his more positive performance in Sardinia Thierry Neuville will lead the field away having established himself as title favorite the Hyundai driver will be looking to protect that championship advantage in the face of a resurgent Ott Tänak Taking over the third Hyundai is Andreas Mikkelsen who makes his first gravel appearance of the year Sébastien Ogier returns for a fourth consecutive outing With the eight-time champion in such good form it should perhaps be no surprise that Toyota have called on his services once again Regulars Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta complete the Toyota lineup There is a relatively diminished WRC2 field in Poland after the incredible 45-car Rally2 entry in Sardinia All 23 second-tier machines are registered for WRC2 points but championship leader Yohan Rossel and second-placed Jan Solans are both absent fourth and fifth placed drivers in the championship make up the top three starters Oliver Solberg leads the field in a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 followed by Sardinia winner Sami Pajari’s Toyota Yaris Citroën’s Nikolay Gryazin is third and has registered for points for the first time since his WRC2 win in Croatia Lauri Joona starts fourth followed by Gus Greensmith who will be looking to make up for his Portugal retirement Other drivers who need strong results in Poland are Pierre-Louis Loubet (Škodas) and Teemu Suninen (Hyundai) who start 15th and 16th on the road having both failed to finish in Portugal and Sardinia They will be well placed to take advantage of any road sweeping ahead of them Local interest comes in the form of three-time European champion Kajetan Kajetanowicz who starts sixth on the road ahead of Ireland’s Josh McErlean The Toyotas of Roope Korhonen and Georg Linnamäe start eighth and ninth and Martin Prokop rounds out the top 10 in a Škoda Home favorite Kajetan Kajetanowicz contests his third WRC2 round of the season Robert Virves makes his second WRC2 start of the year in another Škoda while 2019 and 2021 Polish champion Mikołaj Marczyk is another local driver looking to make his mark Rally Poland is not a round of the Junior World Rally Championship so the number of Rally3 cars is limited to just 11 though there are some familiar JWRC names on the entry list so he will be looking to strengthen his advantage after class victories in Portugal and Sardinia Mattéo Chatillon starts third in a Renault Clio Behind Chatillon is a pair of Bolivian JWRC regulars The remainder of the WRC3 entry is made up of local drivers Gracjan Predko and Grzegorz Bonder leading the way Based out of the town of Mikołajki in the north of Poland the rally features 188 miles of competitive stages starting with a 1.6-mile blast through Mikołajki Arena on Thursday evening The action gets underway proper on Friday morning with two loops of three stages punctuated by a tire fitting zone in Olecko Each loop is made up of the 18.3-mile Stańczyki 8.0-mile Wieliczki and 8.2-mile Olecko tests Poland's roads have their own character - and are fast Friday is rounded out by another run through Mikołajki Arena and the cars and crews will no doubt be ready for some attention The day begins with the 11.5-mile Świętajno test The crews then return to Mikołajki for a third pass of the 1.6-mile arena stage Saturday does include a 40-minute lunchtime service so there will be time to carry out any repairs before the afternoon loop This is made up of the same three stages used in the morning but with the Mikołajki Arena stage omitted Sunday features four stages and 39.8 miles that bring the rally to its conclusion The 12.9-mile Gmina Mrągowo and 7.0-mile Mikołajki make up the day’s two loops The second loop is punctuated by a 45-minute regroup which will bring the crews back together ahead of the powerstage and the finish in Mikołajki Arena Tags: , , , , 2024 DirtFish
