WEST VALLEY CITY — A notebook that Susan Powell kept in her desk at work
possibly containing information about her relationship with her husband
was among the items seized by investigators last week
several sources have told the Deseret News
detailed threats allegedly made about a year ago against the missing West Valley woman
Police have not ruled out the possibility of foul play but also do not have any evidence pointing them in any one direction
has remained the focus of media and public scrutiny
Police confirmed Wednesday that they now consider him a "person of interest" in the case
"We don't have any solid evidence at this time that a crime has been committed
but there is circumstantial evidence that foul play cannot be ruled out," West Valley Assistant Police Chief Craig Black said
Black said Josh Powell is not the only person of interest
Black declined to discuss who the others are in the case
"We're not focused in on one person at this point," he said
that a person of interest is not the same as a suspect
he said that a neighbor who might offer important information about the case would be considered a "person of interest." Everyone else who has been labeled as a person of interest
Powell was interviewed by police late Tuesday and submitted to a search warrant to collect DNA
Despite his voluntarily showing up for an interview
police say he is still not being completely forthcoming
refusing to answer specific detailed questions such as exactly where he was camping the night of Dec
6 and whether his wife had any close friends with whom she might have confided
"He's not being cooperative," said Black
"He's answering very general descriptive-type questions
He would not submit to questioning about specific questions we think would be helpful to finding his wife."
Josh Powell said he went camping about midnight on Dec
The temperature that night was well below freezing
Josh Powell returned to his home in the afternoon
Josh Powell talked to police that night and the following day
He was scheduled for a follow-up interview Monday but did not show up for that meeting
based on the advice of his newly hired attorney
investigators did not get many of the answers they were hoping for and have requested to speak to him again
"We're interested in what he has to say," Black said
"We expressed to him we would like to have a chance to ask him more specific and detailed questions
such as he was camping along the Pony Express Trail
We haven't been able to find anything."
"We'd appreciate some more detailed cooperation from him," Black said
"There's a lot of questions concerning his camping trip
what Susan's state of mind was on Sunday (Dec
has she ever talked to him privately about leaving
We just would like to have information that helps us find her."
told KSL Radio Wednesday that after the Powells moved to Utah from Washington state
"She had a lot of friends and family members telling her
'Why don't you just end it?' But she was committed to her marriage," she said
"I don't think that Josh is capable of hurting her
but I don't think she would leave her kids
Black acknowledged investigators have heard accusations being made on Internet blog sites
in the media and other second- and third-hand reports from friends and neighbors about possible marital problems between Josh and Susan Powell
But Black said he was not aware of any specific threats that might have been made
police would simply like to work more in a partnership with Josh Powell to find his wife and clear up some of the unanswered questions
He has his own reasons for acting the way he has
we hope he would come in and help us out and answer questions that can give us further leads and direction," Black said
Detectives returned to the Powells' neighborhood
and look for any possible leads in the case

AGROLOK has been processing and refining high-quality feed components in Osiek
Photos AMANDUS KAHLAmandus Kahl provides technical solutions for the treatment of mono-components: Whether single machines
complete machine lines or plant concepts – KAHL process technologies are characterised by quality
the Polish company AGROLOK decided to purchase a KAHL plant for the treatment of mono-components such as soy and rapeseed – commissioning took place in 2018
AGROLOK can look back on more than three years of production
AGROLOK Managing Director Kamil Kaliski and Markus Lukaszczuk
review the successful cooperation with AMANDUS KAHL
AGROLOK has a unique technology for refining feed components for cattle
the Polish company has stood for high-quality goods and services used in the plant and animal feed industry
This also includes trade in feed and feed components
a new and very important branch of business for the company has been the production of high-quality feed components from protein plants and their refinement
The decision to build a plant for refining vegetable proteins was a response to the growing demand for non-genetically modified feed components
“I remember how we started analysing Ukrainian extruders
then Czech extruders and finally we ended up with AMANDUS KAHL expanders,” says Kamil Kaliski
“When the decision was made and we started looking for a machine and plant manufacturer
it turned out that AMANDUS KAHL also builds turnkey plants
The company has a lot of experience in the construction of machines and plants for processing soybeans and animal feed – and thus a long-standing market presence
The technology used in the plant enables the production of feed components with a high percentage of so-called bypass protein
which is highly valued and desired in the feeding of dairy cows
To produce rumen-protected protein at an even higher level
a crown expander from AMANDUS KAHL is used
“The technology of the crown expander is unique
It is particularly suitable for processing mono-components such as soya
not only the capacity of the downstream pellet mill and the quality of the pellets are optimised
salmonellae or moulds are eliminated at the same time,” explains Markus Lukaszczuk
at least AGROLOK entered a completely new business field – with new challenges
AMANDUS KAHL has already implemented many large-scale projects in numerous countries for mono-component treatment
“The raw materials for feed production available on the Polish market were often not able to meet the feed requirements of animals with high genetic potential for milk
meat and egg production,”explains Markus Lukaszczuk
“A sensible solution is the modern processing plant from AMANDUS KAHL
whose products meet the increased feed requirements.”
The mono-component plant consists of two processing lines – one for soya and one for rapeseed
The complete line processes 720 tons per day
In addition to the connecting and conveying elements
the lines consist of a crushing roller mill
pellet mill and a belt drier/cooler combination from AMANDUS KAHL
The risks of investing in such a plant and the associated trust in the company responsible were just two of the fears that preoccupied Kamil Kaliski at the beginning of the first joint project
“My hopes and expectations clearly lay in the production of high-quality proteins as well as energy components
we could not be sure that our products would be accepted directly
But after the first production batches and the final commissioning
we were sure that – thanks to KAHL machines – the quality standards were so high
that the products would be accepted on the market,” explains Kamil Kaliski
Kamil Kaliski’s high level of satisfaction is confirmed by the commissioning of AMANDUS KAHL with a second plant with twice the output – AGROLOK 2: “Our range of products includes cereals
Then we would be able to offer our customers a comprehensive product range for the production of complete feed mixtures
which is why we pay special attention to a particularly high level – both in the relationships with our customers in the area of services provided and the products offered.”
AGROLOK now employs more than 1000 people and is one of the largest employers in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship region
The fact that a second plant is now being built at the production site in Osiek (Brodnica district) not only strengthens the infrastructure
but also confirms the technical know-how of AMANDUS KAHL
“The products processed on KAHL machines are characterised by several quality standards
AGROLOK’s customers can use the refined raw materials such as Amirap (from rapeseed) or Protina (from soybeans) to produce good and economical recipes
A particularly high digestibility can also be observed in animal nutrition,” says Lukaszczuk
Kaliski adds: “We are glad to have chosen KAHL for our second plant as well
we cannot only be sure of receiving quality and experience from Germany once again
but also create further jobs in the region in the short term
45 employees work at AGROLOK – the number will increase with the expansion.”
8,000 working hours are performed per year in 3-shift operation
The machines are energy-efficient and require little maintenance
They ensure resource-saving production at the highest level
“This was also a decisive reason for choosing the know-how of AMANDUS KAHL,” says Kamil Kaliski
the KAHL machines are easy to operate and so far there have been no failures or errors.”
The switching and automation systems were also supplied by AMANDUS KAHL and ensure a safe
In addition to the pelleting line automation
the crown expander is also operated fully automatically
“The intention is to design our machines and plants to be as user-friendly and simple as possible
This includes not only high-quality and state-of-the-art machines
but also control systems that ensure consistent product quality at high throughput rates
but of course also the animals,” says Markus Lukaszczuk
When asked how he looks back on his cooperation with AMANDUS KAHL and what his future plans are
Kamil Kaliski replies: “I think we owe our success to our employees and the good cooperation with AMANDUS KAHL
We are planning a further development in the direction of protected proteins for cattle
The construction work is in full swing and proceeding as planned
but it’s too early to talk about them here.”
AMANDUS KAHL can also look back on a successful project
More than 140 years of experience in mechanical engineering are complemented by know-how in process engineering and extensive research and development
The processing of mono-components by the KAHL Expander is refl ected in the highest quality standards of the subsequent feed production
By using the newly developed crushing roller mill with individual drive
it is possible to structure the raw components in an even more targeted manner
This ensures high quality during further processing
Plant design and construction in particular have become increasingly important at AMANDUS KAHL in recent years: “We have references of turnkey feed plants with a throughput of up to 300,000 tons per year
which shows that AMANDUS KAHL is exactly the right partner for such projects,” says Markus Lukaszczuk

Some years ago I handed out a syllabus that included a book titled Ordained Women in the Early Church: A Documentary History
Those not predisposed to support women deacons in the present day often consider the initiative to be a recent
an innovation unmoored from historical tradition
What often goes unnoticed in the discussion about women deacons
is how much of the ancient evidence comes from concrete archaeological discoveries
Advocates are not reading between the lines of history
creating things that aren’t there in the plain sense of some text
They’re not looking under every proverbial rock in hopes of finding a meager piece of evidence
the evidence for women deacons is on the literal rocks themselves
Kevin Madigan and Carolyn Osiek’s admirable book catalogs 65 inscriptions
The vast majority of these come from eastern Christian communities (Greece
Yet the geographical breadth of the findspots (from modern-day France all the way to Syria) suggests that the diaconate of women was
A compelling example is the stone pictured above
found by workers at the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem on December 8
the Greek translates as “Here lies the slave and bride of Christ
who fell asleep in peace on March 21st during the 11th indiction…” The inscription’s subsequent lines are broken or missing
which is especially unfortunate because line 8 likely names a presbyter (pres-) that may have helped us to date and situate the artifact
Inscriptions can be ambiguous in their meaning
just like texts transmitted through tradition can be
But the prevalence of such inscriptions nonetheless matters for several reasons
the ancient materiality of the objects necessitates a kind of distance from present-day motives
A critic of the contemporary push for women deacons cannot both champion fidelity to Christian historical tradition and cavalierly dismiss these clear realia of Christian lives
inscriptions were the primary public texts of the ancient Mediterranean world
They communicated values and priorities of communities
The prevalence of these inscriptions demonstrates that women’s ordained leadership was not secretive or embarrassing
many of the inscriptions display reverence for the female deacon named therein—after all
giving honor was the primary function of inscriptions
Occasionally an inscription can even help us to advance our knowledge about a crucial argument. For example, the oldest use of the word “deacon” for a Christian woman comes in Romans 16:1, when Paul commends Phoebe, a diakonos of the church of Cenchreae (near Corinth). Scholars debate whether this was an “office” or merely a word for servant
with both sides marshalling evidence to make a case
the Mount of Olives inscription also offers a comment on this debate
telling us that in the Holy Land of the fourth century—certainly a significant time and place for the Christian tradition—a real deacon named Sophia was acclaimed precisely by connection to her predecessor Phoebe
For the Christians who commissioned this public monument
the honorable status of women as deacons was set in stone
was one of four individuals who appeared before the judge at the regional court in the northwestern city of Szczecin on Monday
The verdict was based mainly on the damning testimony of another of the men
how the group killed and partly ate an unidentified man near Lake Osiek in Poland's western Lubuskie province in 2002
sometime between July and October of that year
got into an altercation with an unnamed individual outside a village bar
duly slit the victim’s throat and beheaded him with a knife
The five men proceeded to profane the remains
by roasting parts of the victim’s body in a fire pit and eating them
guilty of “masterminding the perpetration of a forbidden act,” the killing of the victim
The three other defendants were ruled guilty of “desecrating the victim’s corpse” by “dismembering his body
roasting the different parts and partly consuming them.”
said she would lodge an appeal against the man's 25-year prison sentence

Still searching for an international goal... striker Scott McDonald battles for the ball with Switzerland's Stephan Lichtsteiner. (Alexander Hassenstein: Getty Images)
Link copiedShareShare articleThe Socceroos have begun life under new coach Holger Osieck with an entertaining 0-0 friendly draw against an understrength Switzerland in St Gallen.
Australian captain Lucas Neill said before the match the players had been trying too hard in training to impress their new boss and it appeared a little bit that way at the AFG Arena.
The Swiss showed during the World Cup in June that they were extremely hard to break down with only one goal conceded and Australia were unable to find the back of the net.
Australia was, in fact, a bit lucky to get away with a draw with Switzerland skipper Alexander Frei missing a penalty in the 60th minute.
The Socceroos meet Euro 2012 co-hosts Poland in another friendly on Tuesday in Krakow.
In terms of tactical changes, the most noticeable was ditching one man up front that had become so heavily criticised under Pim Verbeek's reign, with Scott McDonald joining Tim Cahill in a two-man forward line.
Osieck seemed comfortable with his side's first-up effort under his new regime before Tuesday's friendly against 2012 Euro co-hosts Poland in Krakow.
"I thought we played a very good half... I thought we created some very good scoring opportunities we did not have the final touch that would have rewarded our fine play," he said.
"I thought the attitude of the team was very good.
"Second half after the Swiss put on the four substitutes... we found it a bit difficult to adjust at first and our passing became a bit sloppy at times and we lost a bit of the red fire."
With one eye on Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier against England in Basel, the home side rested about half of its regular starting line-up.
Both sides had their chances early on with Neill blazing over from point blank range from a Cahill header in the 10th minute.
A minute later the Swiss should have scored with Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer saving the day by slapping away Albert Bunkaju's shot from close range.
The Swiss targeted Australia's left side of defence with David Carney being kept busy as the home side kept on getting in behind the Socceroos' defensive line.
Brett Emerton, clearly busting for a run after spending most of the past few weeks on the bench for Blackburn, provided some quality and was a handful down the right flank.
McDonald, yet to score for the Socceroos in 17 appearances for the national team, will never have a better chance to open his account than the open goal he somehow missed in the 41st minute.
Another great chance went begging for the Middlesbrough man just before the half-time break as his wait for an international strike continued.
Neill was left shaking his head at the Socceroos' missed chances.
"I actually had more time than I realised and had too much time to think, I am not going to get many more gifts like that to crack the goals in and nor will Scotty Mac, but it is coming," Neill said.
"I will take the positives of a clean sheet."
Fulham stopper Schwarzer, denied a move to Arsenal on Tuesday, was on his game all evening and showed his athleticism by getting his fingertips to turn Switzerland's Xavier Margairaz's header past the post just after the break.
As for the penalty, Schwarzer was diving the wrong way as Frei, who had scored 40 goals from 77 internationals before Friday ight's match, missed the target and the crowd of 14,000 let him know it.
"Whatever happened in the past week he shook it off because he is a very good professional," Osieck said.
Substitute Dario Vidosic almost grabbed a winner in the 83rd minute but his header was knocked away by Swiss goalkeeper Marco Wolfi.
