they’re equipped with high-quality cameras and sensors
The drones can be flown manually or follow an automated flight path; either strategy allows them to collect data quickly and efficiently
“They can provide unique perspectives and capabilities that traditional inspections can’t match,” Pisz said
“Drones with high resolution cameras and sensors can be used to collect comprehensive visual data about a building and its surroundings
This data can be used to analyze any problems in the building’s facade.”
Because traditional methods of inspecting a facade are so time-consuming and expensive
out of mind—until there’s a leak
This reactive approach can encourage further damage
force the HVAC system to work harder to maintain comfort inside
“That will lead to high energy bills to compensate for this loss,” Kucher added
“It will also lead to humidity issues because when there’s a difference in temperatures
and then you get mold in the building.”
Overusing the HVAC system will reduce the equipment’s lifespan because it’s now working to condition air outside the building
Drones can help remedy problems by finding cracks
“Leaks cause a lot of structural damage to your building
“Drone inspections help us to detect problems early and prevent potential issues.”
The photos and measurements captured by drones can be analyzed using AI
“Artificial intelligence can be trained to detect defects like small cracks
“The analysis can be added to our visual inspections.”
A 10-story building might result in tens of thousands of images that are then stitched together to create a 3D model of your building with all of the detected defects flagged
Human technicians can then manually inspect the AI’s findings and determine whether it correctly identified the defect
The final results can be added to a PDF report that gives a comprehensive overview of the building’s defects
“Sometimes a visual inspection may overlook certain defects
whereas when you’re taking images of every square inch of the building and you have several sets of eyes on it
we can be a lot more efficient,” Pisz explained
“Drones help us to collect data very quickly from buildings
and AI helps us plan the missions and analyze the pictures,” added Kucher
“No human would be able to analyze all of the images and look for all the cracks
AI helps us focus on what we can actually do.”

Tom Pisz's death was "a shock" for Nicole Spencer
the executive director of the NWT Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NWT SPCA).
"I visited him a few times over this last year," she said
but I was surprised with his death."
Pisz was the founder of Yellowknife's Great Slave Animal Hospital
and a prominent veterinarian in the city
He was beloved by many residents — both human and animal alike
who has lived in Yellowknife for about 17 years
quickly got to know the doctor very well through her work
"The NWT SPCA has worked with him for many
"Former boards had worked with him and partnered with Great Slave Animal Hospital
"I started volunteering at Great Slave Animal Hospital [when I arrived in Yellowknife] — like walking dogs
and then later at the SPCA, I was on the board and became president of the SPCA and worked closer with the Great Slave Animal Hospital
We just formed a relationship both professionally through them being our partner vet clinic
As a vet, Pisz was also known for his tireless work ethic
and made himself available 24 hours a day in case of emergency.
not just from his education. He just learned the old-fashioned way: learn as you go
He just saw so much that he could figure stuff out pretty well based on what he had seen in the past and the experience that he had gained over the years
"He was on call 24 hours a day when it was just him there [at the animal hospital]
he was sometimes considered "gruff," but lovable, she added.
"He had a great sense of humour once you got to know him
he was a very sweet person with a very big heart
and he did more for people than anybody knows."
Pisz's impact on the City of Yellowknife and its pet owners is indeed substantial
Great Slave Animal Hospital was the first facility of its kind in the NWT
and it changed the face of animal care in the territory
"Him being here and being as available as he was and putting in what he did
It definitely changed the [veterinary] situation of the North
"He was so beneficial and helpful to everybody in the North."
There are now other veterinarians based in the North
including the Great Slave Animal Hospital's Dr. Katie Denroche
who does great work keeping Yellowknife's pets healthy
Pisz's passing will leave a hole in the hearts of the people who knew him well
and anyone who saw the way he cared for the city's animals.
noting that her organization wouldn't be what is is today with the veterinarian's help

an Alberta woman completed a 15-hour trip from southern Alberta to Yellowknife

Tom was giving pony rides at [the] Canada Day parade
who provided ‘pony rides’ for kids in attendance who had not had access to horses for a year

The first three new paint colours to come out of the Giga Berlin paint shop were revealed yesterday in an update to the Tesla mobile app
there was no visual representation as the information about each colour was contained in several lines of code
Elon Musk has said Giga Berlin will house the world’s most advanced paint shop
“with more layers of stunning colours that subtly change with curvature.”

we have our best look yet at what they might look like once they start rolling off the production line in Germany
Tesla already offers a Deep Blue Metallic paint option, but based on this render the new blue will be quite different. (click to enlarge)
Everyone was excited to hear Tesla was bringing back silver after discontinuing a Silver Metallic paint option in 2018. This render shows the new Mercury Silver Multicoat could be a little darker and more closely resemble the current Midnight Silver Metallic. (click to enlarge)
Thomas also created close up visualizations of each new colour, as seen below.
What do you think of these renders? Do you think they will closely resemble the real thing? Let us know in the comments below.
