and I want to make sure Roscoe remains a great place to live
I first ran because I saw areas where we could improve
or making sure residents had a real voice in decisions that affect them
I’ve worked hard to push for common-sense policies that keep our community strong
Tell us about your background and accomplishments that you bring to the table
I work in construction as a heavy equipment operator and I also have a background in design
which has given me a good understanding of infrastructure
and how tax dollars should be spent wisely
I’ve been focused on putting residents first
Some of the things I’ve worked on include:
What do you hope to accomplish in this office in the future
I want to keep Roscoe moving in the right direction by focusing on:
and hard-working guy who wants to make sure our community stays strong
I’ve already shown that I’m willing to stand up for residents
and push for improvements that actually make sense
and always keeping Roscoe’s best interests at heart

Orlen Wisla Plock are only 60 minutes away from what would be their second appearance in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League Men quarter-finals
The Polish side won the first leg of the play-offs against HBC Nantes 28:25 last week and will build on their three-goal advantage when the teams meet again in the Match of the Week in the H Arena in Nantes on Wednesday
Experienced Plock goalkeeper Mirko Alilovic looks ahead to the match
has seen it all in his 22 seasons of playing the top-tier competition — from competing in the qualification tournaments in his early days with HC Izvidac to becoming runners-up with Veszprém in both 2015 and 2016
previously played the quarter-finals in 2022/23
when they narrowly lost to eventual champions SC Magdeburg after beating HBC Nantes in the play-offs
To return to the quarter-finals two years later
Plock must withstand the pressure on French soil
where Nantes have not lost a single game this season in the EHF Champions League
“It will be tough, no doubt. They see their chance, too,” Alilovic says ahead of the MOTW on Wednesday (live on EHFTV at 20:45 CEST)
we can even regret a few moments when we dropped physically and maybe we could have gotten an even better result,” the goalkeeper adds

Alilovic shared the best mark of most seasons played in the EHF Champions League with French standout Nikola Karabatic
And since Alilovic has recently prolonged his contract with Plock for an additional year
he is bound to set the all-time record in 2025/26
which would be his 23rd season in Europe’s top flight
I was 15 or 16 playing Champions League with Ljubuski
That would be the fairy-tale ending,” the Croatian goalkeeper explains
Mirko Alilovic was close to making his dream a reality with Veszprém
stepping on the court for the EHF FINAL4 in Cologne in four consecutive seasons
The 2016 final against Kielce remains a sobering memory — a match that slipped away despite a commanding second-half lead
“That season we won almost everything by an inch — the Hungarian cup after penalties
the SEHA League by two goals against Vardar after beating Meshkov Brest on penalties
Everything fell into place for us,” Alilovic remembers
“In the semi-final in Cologne we managed to get a draw against THW Kiel and won in overtime
we were going to win it… but then Kielce came
Roland Mikler and I were already talking about it
We were not celebrating yet as you know it’s not over until it’s over
it seemed like the world stopped and Kielce’s magic comeback started
they came back to four or five goals behind
I know I came between the posts 10 minutes before the end — we had two chances to go up by two and missed both
it was impossible to come back from blowing a nine-goal lead in 14 minutes
“It’s one of the rare games I played that I haven’t watched and never will
left a bitter taste that took years to forget.”
he has so many beautiful memories from playing in the Champions League
One year it was Ademar Leon knocking us out
Alilovic was to feature at a few more EHF FINAL4s after that
Getting to the EHF FINAL4 is even the hardest part
His career path has been a steady line of ambition-fuelled clubs pushing for the very top

bp plc has entered a 12-month deal to supply crude oil produced from its North Sea fields offshore Norway to Orlen SA’s refineries in Poland and Lithuania
bp will deliver an overall 6 million tonnes/year (tpy) of Norwegian crudes from the North Sea to either the Polish port of Gdańsk or the Lithuanian port of Būtinga based on Orlen’s regional feedstock demand
The first crude delivery under the 1-year contract—the entirety of which will cover about 15% of Orlen’s system-wide feedstock requirements—is scheduled to arrive in Gdańsk in September 2024
Structured to provide flexibility of supply
the agreement with bp forms a key element in Orlen’s ongoing diversification of its feedstock portfolio and will contribute to enhanced efficiency of its processing sites
Orlen’s chief executive officer and president
“[Oil] we will acquire through this contract is not only of consistent quality and sourced from geographically close North Sea fields but also has properties that ensure high yields and is well-suited to the processing technologies at our refineries,” Fafara said
bp’s trading team will also be able to provide access to many of the other crude grades processed by Orlen refineries
The two companies said they also plan to work together on future opportunities to advance each’s energy transition initiatives
This latest crude supply contract follows a previous 12-month agreement Orlen signed with bp in June 2023 for more than 6 million tpy of the latter’s North Sea crude production
Orlen said its supply of North Sea crudes currently includes Forties and Brent from the UK
Its refineries also receive US-sourced West Texas Intermediate (WTI)
in addition to West African Forcados and Bonny Light crudes
Sourcing of North Sea grades for its refineries comes as part of Orlen’s continuation of its program to tap crude supplies from directions other than Russia
and the US—includes unidentified grades from the Arabian Gulf
One of the first European companies to abandon imports of Urals oil by sea following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
Orlen in first-quarter 2023 doubled down by also not renewing its supply contract with Rosneft Oil Co
and terminated its agreement with PJSC Tatneft to completely cut off supply of Russian oil into Poland
Orlen’s Polish refineries had completely ceased processing of Russian crudes
according to the operator’s latest annual report
Orlen said as much as 98% of crude volumes processed at the Plock refinery was sourced from Russia
With a combined nameplate crude processing capacity of about 45.7 million tpy that translated into actual overall throughputs of 38.5 million tpy by yearend 2023
Orlen subsidiary Orlen Południe SA also operates two other refineries in Poland—at Trzebinia and Jedlicze
respectively—both of which specialize in manufacturing biofuel components
and as well as in regeneration of spent oils

golf courses are being rewilded – with lofty aims to benefit both people and nature
Sinking into nature comes easy at the Plock of Kyle
I visit this tiny wedge of parkland on the west coast of Scotland
just across the bridge from the Isle of Skye
and park ranger Heather Beaton and I spend the afternoon wandering around its various ecosystems-in-miniature
We clamber over rocks at one of its little hidden natural harbours
We freeze as black darter dragonflies land on her pink shoe by a pond
And we bend to peer at circles of huge mushrooms which have sprung up overnight in its tiny woodland
All of these habitats had fallen into serious disarray until a few years ago – most of this area used to be a golf course – Heather BeatonA wildflower meadow, ponds, scrub habitat, coastline and even an area of peat bog can be found on this little 60-acre (24-hectare) plot
eels and a huge array of insects and birds
"We do describe it as a microcosm of Scotland," says Beaton
"If you think of all of the major habitats of Scotland
just in miniature." It's an impression she works to cultivate
end up having a nature experience," she says
All of these habitats had fallen into serious disarray until a few years ago
most of this area used to be a golf course
these projects are reaping in some big rewards for both biodiversity and local people
But what does it take to rewild a golf course? Could this be a key to both supporting biodiversity and helping more people get the immense benefits that come with interacting with nature
And what do we win – and lose – in the process
it has widely emerged as the sport of the most affluent in society
Responding to a request for comment about these criticisms
executive vice president of Trump International
called the reports "inaccurate and grossly misleading"
"Nature Scot [Scotland's conservation body] ignored and neglected the dunes under the previous ownership and have barely set foot on this site over the past 20 years," she said
"Their own assessment acknowledged that many attributes of the SSSI – which was
less than 3% of our vast estate – had flourished since the first golf course was completed in 2012
Trump International's ongoing investment and care of the land is beyond question
as anyone who actually visits the property will attest."
A separate proposal for an 18-hole golf course on another fragile Scottish dune sand ecosystem continues to divide public opinion
"Certainly, some of the key environmental concerns with golf over time have involved pesticide spraying, the quantity of water used, especially in times of drought, and the significant amount of land sometimes needed for a golf course," says Brad Millington, associate professor of sport management at Brock University in Ontario, Canada, and co-author of The greening of golf
The environmental impact of golf has also developed over time
as humans have developed the capacity to build golf courses "seemingly just about anywhere"
spraying coloured smoke and powder and sporting t-shirts reading
But the overall impact of any individual golf course depends on a huge array of factors
says Millington: the amount of non-recycled water and pesticides used in maintenance
and what was there before the golf course was built in the first place
Beaton estimates it could be over 1,000 years old
Previously used for farming, the Plock was never a high-end golf course: it first opened for the community in the 1920s by the local lord and lady, says Beaton, and after various ups and downs the course eventually petered out in the mid 2000s. For a time the land was left largely to its own devices. In 2019, the trust which owned the land passed it to the local Kyle of Lochalsh Community Trust
"It was just overgrown and abandoned and just unloved
really severely unloved," says Beaton
"A lot of effort has gone into bringing it back."
previously kept short and highly manicured for golf
Now it is managed as a permanent wildflower meadow with over 80 species of flowering plant
from native orchids to pignuts and goldenrods
and heaves with butterflies and other insects
It's absolutely beautiful," says Beaton
Beaton, who is in her mid-30s, clearly has an unbridled affection for the Plock. She grew up on a farm in the Scottish borders and previously worked as a warden on Uist in the Outer Hebrides
before moving to Kyle of Lochalsh in 2021 to start work as one of the Plock's two rangers
"We just work away to make it as good a place as possible for all the visitors and users
The struggle, as always, is money. The transformation of the Plock has largely been supported by grants
The trust has explored other options: charging for scything training
a secondhand shop and community facilities
including a laundrette it runs in the village
But it will need something larger scale to become self-sustaining
says Beaton: likely some kind of onsite tourist accommodation
It also hopes to build a traditional-build longhouse to use as a small museum
"I think the sustainable income is going to be the big challenge," says Beaton
that is going to be the big question."
In 2018, The Trust for Public Land (TPL), a US non-profit, bought the 157-acre (64-hectare) San Geronimo Golf Course in California and set about creating a new commons and restoring its wildlife and streams
the golf course was likely one of the top 10 water users in Marin County
San Geronimo Golf Course was a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a climate-resilient ecosystem"
by reconnecting the property's creeks and waterways as well as recreating its historic floodplain
While some people did experience the loss of the golf course
many residents and users have expressed "their deep gratitude for this beautiful now publicly accessible landscape"
the public reaction has been quite positive," she says
usually ones that were becoming financially unviable
In fact, snapping up golf course land for rewilding in the US makes a lot of sense, because the land covered by golf courses has been decreasing for decades
there's a good case to use [this land] to address problems such as biodiversity loss," says Millington
• The decoy ploy to save Scotland's elusive capercaillie
• How bug poo can help reverse the soil crisis
• Seven big climate and nature moments coming in 2025
and by design often built within larger natural landscapes near natural features
with cart paths and trails that allow for public access." Long broad golf course airways can present a unique opportunity for wildlife corridors
meaning rewilding can help with significant water conservation
In fact, in the US fertiliser and water use in golf have substantially decreased in recent decades – in part due to course closures
"This can be done to reduce maintenance costs but there can be an environmental angle as well
such as enabling wildlife to flourish," says Millington
However, while many golfers support wilding efforts on non-play areas, there can be trade offs in terms of playability of having more dense vegetation around
Golf courses that are being made a little wilder can offer lessons for other types of land as well
"I do think there's ways of introducing nature into manicured landscapes,” says Beaton
you can do it in any sort of any land."
what managers of many rewilded golf courses tend to emphasise is the benefit to local people
people from across the San Francisco Bay Area come to hike
"One thing that is absolutely wonderful to see is the multigenerational use
made possible by the property's gentle terrain

nestled helpfully close to the town of Kyle of Lochalsh
paths now wind through the tightly knit ecosystems
a mental health support group and scything classes (useful for locals with big gardens or crofts who want to cut away overgrown bracken)
It also hosts groups of local schoolchildren
who sometimes help with restoration efforts
"If you can imagine little nursery kids
four year olds coming along and planting a wee tree with a spade," Beaton says of one recent visit
"And then I had to come back afterwards and just make sure they were properly in the ground
Leaving the Plock after my walk with Beaton
a local who comes here to walk his two Hungarian vizsla dogs almost every day
I ask him whether it’s a shame to have lost the golf course
"You can make a golf course in lots of places… but you can't make something like this." There are oak trees here
"And that just tells you that this place has been special for a long time
and I hope it will be forever more," he says

Both French sides were in action in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League 2024/25 play-offs on Thursday
taking one win and one defeat in the first legs
While Paris Saint-Germain Handball clinched a 31:30 victory against OTP Bank – PICK Szeged in Hungary
HBC Nantes were unable to turn the match around against Orlen Wisla Plock
The results leave everything open for the second legs in France
OTP Bank - PICK Szeged (HUN) vs Paris Saint-Germain Handball (FRA) 30:31 (13:14)
to take an away victory in the first leg of the play-offs
But OTP Bank – PICK Szeged were a tough nut to crack
and the tie remains open ahead of the second leg
Szeged started strong thanks to goalkeeper Tobias Thulin and EHF Champions League top scorer Mario Sostaric — now on 107 goals after five strikes — and the first half went back and forth
PSG took a two-goal lead just before the break
but Szeged went in front once more 36 minutes into the game
However in the middle of the second half Paris had four crucial minutes
which helped them stay ahead until the end
Last season’s EHF Champions League top scorer Kamil Syprzak became a key factor for the visitors
scoring eight times to bring his season tally to 96
Syprzak’s last goal for a 29:26 lead seemed to be decisive for Paris
but then Szeged profited from several missed shots and technical mistakes from their opponents to close up to 28:29 with two minutes left
Spanish wing Ferran Sola secured the away win
scoring PSG’s 31st goal 30 seconds before the end
PSG’s Egyptian right back Yahia Omar was also crucial with seven goals
while Lazar Kukic netted six times for Szeged
Orlen Wisla Plock (POL) vs HBC Nantes (FRA) 28:25 (17:12)
By taking seven points from the four group matches in 2025 and remaining unbeaten against PSG
Orlen Wisla Plock were the surprise after the winter break — and head coach Xavi Sabate’s team managed to extend that series in the play-offs
Plock defeated Nantes in the stage of the competition in a penalty shootout following a draw on home ground
they travel to France with a three-goal advantage
the hosts were clearly dominant in the first half
while Nantes had big problems in getting through the best defence of the group phase
but then Nantes improved and bridged the gap goal by goal
Although Przemyslaw Krajewski was unstoppable in Plock’s attack
the match was on the edge in the final minutes
Nantes were close to turning the match around
But Plock hung on and when Leon Susnja scored with 90 seconds left to make it 28:24
despite Leopold Noam’s last-minute strike for Nantes

This article is part of the Research TopicAnalyses on Health Status and Care Needs among Older AdultsView all 40 articles
Background: The right attitude of health professionals (mainly doctors) towards patients—particularly older ones—determines patients’ level of illness acceptance and quality of life
The aim of the study was to assess patient expectations of health professionals and quality of life among residents of Płock (Poland) aged 55 and over in relation to sociodemographic variables and to examine correlations between these patients’ expectations and their quality of life
Methods: The study included 2040 adults aged 55 and over
incorporating sociodemographic questions and two standardized scales: the Patient Request Form (PRF) and the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36)
This cohort study utilized a multi-stage sampling method
with data collected through a diagnostic survey
and Pearson’s correlation to assess relationships between variables
Results: Statistically significant differences were observed between male and female respondents in their expectations of health professionals
Women reported higher scores than men across all three PRF scales
test- and treatment-related information (7.41 vs
A low but statistically significant correlation was found between age and expectations for emotional support (r = 0.162
as well as test- and treatment-related information (r = 0.122
Respondents with secondary/post-secondary education reported the highest expectations for explanation of the illness (mean = 7.06) and test- and treatment-related information (mean = 7.64)
especially those with primary or vocational education
reported the highest expectations for emotional support (mean = 4.93)
The average QoL score measured by the SF-36 was 63.45 (SD = 17.68)
The mental component summary score (mean = 65.07
SD = 19.69) was slightly higher than the physical component summary score (mean = 62.70
Age was negatively correlated with QoL scores
particularly in the physical component (r = −0.407
with respondents holding tertiary education reporting the highest QoL scores
Conclusion: What the older adults included in our study expect most from health professionals is full and ac-curate medical information
particularly information about their health
The quality of life of the respondents and their expectations of health professionals were influenced by sociodemographic characteristics
Studies on patients’ expectations of health professionals are an important but underrated niche within research on the quality of life of older adults
One issue that has not been examined and described in detail in the literature so far is the experience of older individuals with healthcare professionals
and in particular the attitude of health professionals towards older patients
this is the first study on the subject in Poland to include such a large cohort of respondents and examine relationships between older patients’ expectations of health professionals and their quality of life
While the general concept of quality of life among older adults has been explored, little attention has been given to the specific expectations older patients have towards healthcare providers, particularly regarding communication, empathy, and provision of medical information (5, 8, 9)
The aim of the study was to assess patient expectations of health professionals and quality of life among residents of Płock (Poland) aged 55 and over in relation to sociodemographic variables
and to examine correlations between patients’ expectations and their quality of life
The specific expectations assessed in this study include communication
measured using the Patient Request Form (PRF)
alongside health-related quality of life (HRQoL) indicators
The cohort study design was chosen as it allows for the comprehensive analysis of the relationships between patients’ expectations and quality of life over time
capturing both sociodemographic influences and potential changes in health perceptions
the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) was performed on all participants
All individuals with an MMSE score of between 27 and 30 (n = 2,102; 93%)
indicating the absence of cognitive impairment
were included in the next (proper) stage of the study
The inclusion criteria were as follows: age ≥ 55 years; individuals residing or domiciled in Płock; absence of cognitive impairment (as assessed by the MMSE)
All individuals who met all the inclusion criteria chose whether to complete the survey on paper
at the place where they were recruited or at home
The electronic survey was prepared and hosted on the LimeSurvey platform (LimeSurvey GmbH
with responses securely transmitted using encrypted connections to protect participant privacy
Paper surveys were manually entered into the system by authorized personnel
ensuring consistency and confidentiality during data transfer
All data were stored on secure servers with restricted access
the data were anonymized prior to analysis
non-identifiable data were used in the final analysis
We then reviewed the questionnaires received for completeness
Incomplete questionnaires were excluded from the analysis
A total of 2,040 fully completed questionnaires (97%)
1,406 of which (68.9%) were completed by women
with data collected at a single point in time without longitudinal follow-up
The study was conducted using a diagnostic survey by means of our own survey questionnaire including sociodemographic questions and two standardised psychometric scales: the Patient Request Form (PRF) and the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36)
The study was carried out in accordance with recommendations and was reviewed and approved by the Bioethics Committee of the Mazovian Academy in Płock (statute no
All participants gave their written informed consent in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki
Poland) were used to analyse the data collected
Descriptive statistics for continuous variables were reported as means (M)
lower quartiles (Q25) and upper quartiles (Q75)
Categorical variables were reported as frequencies (N) and percentages (%)
Differences in one variable between three or more groups were examined using one-way ANOVA
Fisher’s LSD post-hoc test was used to determine which groups differed
Relationships between quantitative variables were tested using Pearson’s correlation
Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05
Respondents reported the highest scores for expectations for test- and treatment-related information (M = 7.22), and the lowest scores for expectations for emotional support (M = 4.69). Descriptive statistics for scores for the three types of expectations of health professionals (factors) measured by the PRF are shown in Table 2
No statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) was found in quality of life scores between male and female respondents
though women had slightly higher total and mental component summary scores
while men had slightly higher physical component summary scores
A moderate negative correlation was found between age and total SF-36 and physical component summary scores
while a weak negative correlation was observed between age and mental component summary scores
Respondents aged 60 or under had the highest total
a weak correlation was found between education level and quality of life scores
with respondents with tertiary and secondary/post-secondary education reporting the highest SF-36 scores
and those with primary or lower education reporting the lowest
Table 5 provides detailed information on the correlations between sociodemographic variables and SF-36 scores
A study by Kurowska et al. (21) showed that female respondents, respondents aged 41–50, respondents aged over 60 and those with primary or vocational education were more likely to seek explanation of their health problem, emotional support and information about tests and treatment. Similarly, in a study by Cybulski et al. (23)
female respondents and respondents aged between 60 and 69 reported higher scores on the PRF
There may be several reasons for the significant relationships between sociodemographic factors
and patients’ expectations of health professionals
The main reason may be that older adults tend to have multimorbidity—they have more health problems than younger individuals and are more likely to be affected by pain
they have difficulties in accessing health care
they have increasing expectations in all the three areas analysed
Older individuals who are lonely and have no peer-aged friends or loved ones who could provide them with emotional support seek such support from health professionals
whom they often trust and even consider friends
Further research is needed to explore whether these expectations are shaped by personal experiences with healthcare or broader societal trends
older adults with lower education levels may feel less empowered to seek detailed medical explanations
relying more on healthcare professionals for emotional support
individuals with higher education levels may have greater health literacy
enabling them to independently understand medical information
which reduces their reliance on emotional support from healthcare providers
study participants reported the highest scores for the role emotional (RE) and mental health (MH) dimensions of the SF-36
and the lowest scores for the physical functioning (PF) and role physical (RP) dimensions of the questionnaire
Findings from the present study show that the older adults surveyed reported significantly higher scores for the physical domain than for the mental domain of HRQoL
One exception were respondents living in rural areas
who reported higher scores for the mental domain than for the physical domain
scores in all dimensions of the SF-36 decreased with age
with the largest differences seen between respondents aged 80 and over and other age groups
The study found statically significant differences between age groups in scores for the physical functioning (p < 0.05)
bodily pain (p < 0.001) and general health (p < 0.05) dimensions
Our results are consistent with the findings of Kurowska et al., which showed that older patients, particularly women, tend to have higher expectations for clear communication and medical information (21). However, Rotter et al. (24) did not observe significant gender differences in emotional support expectations
suggesting that patient demographics and cultural factors might influence these expectations differently across populations
our findings are based on the assessment of the subjective feelings of the older adults surveyed
they are based on the self-report of subjective feelings
which can result in false positive findings
it is difficult to apply the results of the study to the general population of older people in Poland
and it is even more difficult to apply them to the population of older people living in rural areas
our findings should be tested in a study including an equally large group of men
the majority of the population of older people in Poland are women (older women are overrepresented compared to older men)
our findings may serve as a starting point for further research on satisfaction with life and preferred behaviours among older people in Poland and their sociodemographic characteristics
the research should have the form of a longitudinal nationwide study
A number of important conclusions can be drawn from the present study on Polish older adults’ expectations of health professionals and their quality of life
The study showed that what the older adults surveyed expect most from health professionals is accurate medical information
Respondents in our study reported moderate
females and younger respondents reported significantly higher expectations for clear communication and emotional support compared to males and older respondents
individuals with tertiary education demonstrated a notably higher quality of life
particularly in the mental and physical health domains
compared to those with lower educational levels
These findings suggest that sociodemographic characteristics play a key role in shaping expectations towards healthcare professionals and perceptions of quality of life
We found that the quality of life of the older adults surveyed and their expectations of health professionals were influenced by sociodemographic variables
younger respondents and respondents with tertiary education reported a higher level of expectations and higher quality of life
One exception were respondents aged 76–90
who reported the highest level of expectations
There was a statistically significant correlation between the respondents’ scores for expectations for explanation of the illness and expectations for emotional support and their overall perceived quality of life
Our findings highlight the need for further more in-depth research on a larger scale in Poland to gain a better understanding of the phenomena and their possible correlations
These results emphasize the importance of adapting healthcare communication strategies to meet the diverse needs of older patients
Women and individuals with lower educational levels may benefit from enhanced emotional support during interactions with healthcare professionals
whereas those with tertiary education may require more comprehensive and detailed medical information
By recognizing and addressing these varying expectations
healthcare providers can improve patient satisfaction
increase adherence to medical recommendations
and ultimately enhance the overall quality of care for older adults
Future research should investigate how these findings generalize to different regions of Poland
where access to healthcare and patient expectations might differ
longitudinal studies are needed to explore how patient expectations and quality of life evolve over time
especially as health conditions change and as older adults continue to interact with healthcare systems

One Veszprém HC are the big winners of the first round of group A in 2025: The leaders did not only win at Bucharest
but extended the gap to the second position to five points
as previous runners-up Paris Saint-Germain Handball stumbled on Orlen Wisla Plock on home ground
Thanks to their hard-earned win against Eurofarm Pelister
Füchse Berlin booked their ticket for the knock-out stage
GROUP AFüchse Berlin (GER) vs Fredericia Håndbold Klub (DEN) 36:29 (18:14)
Berlin’s international restart was anything but a walk in the park
as the final result does not fully reflect Fredericia’s strong performance
Berlin secured the win through the individual brilliance of Danish world champions Lasse Andersson (12 goals from 14 attempts) and Mathias Gidsel (eight goals
They also benefited from a strong performance by goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev
who not only made 11 saves but also scored into an empty net for 29:24
The Danish runners-up stunned the hosts with a 5:2 lead early on
thanks to their Italian newcomer Leo Prantner (6 goals in his debut) and Andersson
displaying solid defence and physical intensity
Even a 29:24 lead was not enough for Berlin to seal the win early
as the German runners-up made too many attacking errors in the closing stages
while Gudmundur Gudmundsson’s side remains at the bottom of the group with three points
Dinamo Bucuresti (ROU) vs One Veszprém HC (HUN) 26:33 (13:18)
One Veszprém HC consolidated their top position with their sixth win in eight matches against Dinamo
Backed by 14 saves from goalkeeper Rodrigo Corrales
Veszprém capitalised on a 9:2 run after an 8:8 tie to take a five-goal lead into the break
When Bucharest goalkeeper Vladimir Cupara hit his strongest form
French winger and overall top scorer Hugo Descat took charge
netting crucial goals to secure a decisive 30:23 lead
while Veszprém claimed their tenth win in 11 matches
Sporting CP (POR) vs HC Eurofarm Pelister (MKD) 30:24 (14:13)
Sporting reinforced their home dominance with their sixth consecutive group-stage win in Lisbon
Eurofarm Pelister put on an impressive defensive display
limiting the Costa brothers to just seven goals combined
Sporting only managed to pull ahead by more than two goals twice—at 11:8 and 12:9—and the same pattern continued into the second half
When Salvador Salvador struck to make it 21:17
keeping the game competitive for a few more minutes
a double strike from Icelander Orri Freyr Þorkelsson extended the lead to 26:21
ending the Macedonian champions’ hopes of an upset in Lisbon
Sporting leapfrogged PSG to take second place in the standings
while Eurofarm Pelister are now level with Plock on six points
Paris Saint-Germain Handball (FRA) vs Orlen Wisla Plock (POL) 28:31 (15:14)
10 was the magic number for Orlen Wisla Plock
After nine consecutive defeats against PSG
the Polish champions finally broke the streak in style
Goalkeeper Victor Hallgrimsson stepped up when it mattered most
Czech sharpshooter Tomas Piroch was on fire
From 17:18 onward—with the exception of a brief tie at 23:23 - Plock remained in the lead
ultimately sealing the win when Gergö Fazekas made it 28:24 in the 56th minute
Plock’s defence adapted perfectly to PSG’s attack
turned the game around but could never regain control in the closing stages
Despite Luc Steins and Ferran Solé each scoring seven goals for PSG
it was not enough to prevent their second consecutive home defeat
following their 34:37 loss to Berlin before the break
The draw for the preliminary round of the 25th IHF Men’s Junior (Under-21) World Championship took place on Tuesday

The church has two large identical towers at the front and a large dome tower at the rear
The original cathedral here was built in 1129 and was destroyed by a fire in 1530
It was restored in 1903 and had new doors added in the 1980s
You can visit it during the daytime as the doors are open
the notice board at the front has all the details you need
Delve into medieval Płock at the city’s castle. It’s a Gothic castle built under the reign of King Casimir III the Great
it looks rather odd with the main tower and surrounding buildings connected to more modern buildings and even a car park out the front
parts of the castle survived the Second World War
You can get inside for a short tour as the castle has acted as a museum since 1973
The views for both sunrise and sunset are sublime from the river banks
cafes and restaurants to choose from to have a cold beer or a fruity cocktail and watch the sun sink over the horizon

Foreman of John Plock’s Shelter Island Oyster Co.’s Lewis Plant ready to start shipment of the shells by barge
Be ready to get your bivalve on — the Shelter Island Historical Society’s “Oyster-R-Here” event is back Saturday
“It’s been on hiatus for five years,” says SIHS executive director Nanette Lawrenson
all the oysters you can eat and plenty of food for non-oyster eaters
casual Shelter Island event — the kind we like!” laughs Lawrenson
SIHS partners with Mashomack Nature Preserve in order to educate the public on the benefit of local oysters — and not just the delicious part
Just one of these bountiful bivalves can filter up for 50 gallons of water a day
helping to get rid of impurities and pollutants that lurk in our waters.
“The reason we started the festival was to bring awareness to the public not only that our local oysters are delicious
but they’re important in terms of cleaning our waters
which is also why we partner with Mashomack,” says Lawrenson
“Educating the public is part of our mission and we do that while having fun about same time.”
The last incarnation of the all-you-can-eat oyster festival
held on the grounds of the History Center at 16 South Ferry Road
was held in the History Center’s barn
the grounds of the SIHS will be your oyster
And perhaps shake hands with Oscar the Oyster
But Oscar isn’t just a cute character made up for the festival at hand; he was actually a historical piece of the Shelter Island Oyster Company
used as a caricature to represent the once prolific oysters harvested from Dering Harbor
preserved and sold by founder John Plock Sr
in forest green cans with golden yellow lettering
The company remained in the Plock family until the 1960s
You may well have seen those covetable green cans around certain antique shops on the North Fork (if you’re lucky enough to find one)
What you can more easily find is an actual Plock
is a former archivist for the Shelter Island Historical Society
You can find him sharpening kitchen knives via his business
Long Island Knife Works at the Havens Farmers Market on Saturdays
(The black-and-white photos here are courtesy of the Plock family.)
There will also be charcuterie from by Shelter Island’s King Andrew Cheese
as well as beer from Shelter Island Brewery and wine from local wineries like Croteaux
a souvenir event glass and a gift certificate for a complimentary cocktail at the lovely Pridwin Hotel
Add to that some pretty exciting raffle and silent auction prizes

and they are now investigating an accidental death
“The gentleman was in the water wakeboarding
The rope got wrapped around the propeller and he got pulled under the boat by the rope and propeller,” Deputy Plock said
The sheriff's office says the victim was a 72-year-old male
“People had already gotten this gentleman out from under the boat and had him on the swim deck of the boat when the first fireboat arrived on scene
Medics declared him deceased here on the river,” Plock added
The Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death

Officers arrested a man in Northeast Portland who allegedly refused repeated offers of a shelter bed or stay at a tiny home
But when officers transported the man to the Multnomah County Detention Center downtown
sheriff’s office personnel who book suspects declined to process him
says that’s because the county jail does not book people who are arrested for violating city ordinances—just those arrested for felonies or misdemeanor offenses codified in Oregon Revised Statutes
the sheriff’s staff books people arrested for violating state laws but not city rules
That’s per a directive that Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell issued in August 2023
That directive clarified policy after the sheriff’s office narrowed the scope of offenses it would book for during the pandemic
“We will continue working with our agency partners to approach and manage our jail’s population while balancing the public safety needs in communities across the county,” Plock wrote in an email
says he “can’t speak to any sort of disconnect between the sheriff’s office and the city of Portland,” but confirms that the man arrested was “cited and released” after the jail declined to book him
which is their role in this process,” Benner says
“PPB doesn’t make decisions about who’s booked and who isn’t.”
The Portland City Council unanimously approved the new time
may be sentenced to a $100 fine or up to seven days in jail
Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment

Paris Saint-Germain handball lost to Wisla Plock (28-31) at Coubertin
Her'e our lok back on this EHF Champions League Group Stage Matchday 11 clash
Only a few days after the Parisians returned to competition with a magnificent win over Nantes (40-39 after penalties) to make it through to the semis
they were back in front of their home crowd at Coubertin
Although their seventh place in the standings was not flattering (and wouldn't qulaify them for the next round)
the Poles had proven themselves capable of upsetting the big guns
Xavi Sabate's team came int othe match with the best defensive record in the competition (256 goals conceded)
and our Rouge et Bleu knew that they would have to turn in a great performance to consolidate second place and the direct path to the quarters that goes with it
Plock demonstrated their defensive rigour and made things tough for the Paris attackers
Les Rouge et Bleu were stymied by Viktor Hallgrimsson (5‘
the capital club sounded the charge through Elohim
who brought his trademark power to bear (9’
our Parisians grew in strength as the minutes went by

While Andreas Palicka responded to his counterpart
the tension mounted in this first act and fouls rained down on both sides
Raul Gonzalez's men were the sharper and Elo‘ drew them level (21’
refused to give in and immediately broke away again
it was in the moments of weakness that Paris was able to draw on its resources to turn the situation around
Yahia and Elohim outwitted the former H goalkeeper and put their team in the lead (29‘

while Yahia and Kamil showed the accuracy needed to keep Paris ahead (35'
Both teams made a series of mistakes and Plock took advantage of a numerical advantage to re-take the lead (41'
Raul Gonzalez then decided to make use of the depth of his squad in a bid to buck the trend
gave Paris hope and ended a six-minute scoring drought (43'
there were technical fouls as well as a lot of missed penalty throws
While Ferran scored three times from the seven-metre line
it was from the six-metre line that Kamil pulled Paris level
the capital club once again conceded ground with just minutes to go (52’
Xavi Sabaté's men maintained a substantial lead (56‘

Paris Saint-Germain Handball travel to Poland to take on Plock in their EHF Champions League Matchday 3 clash on Thursday
Find out all you need to know about this fixture..
Crowned Polish champions a few months ago after overcoming Kielce in the play-off final
Plock are continuing their rise to prominence
The Poles again got the better of their biggest rivals in the Supercup at the start of September
but these encouraging performances have so far failed to translate to success on the European stage
the Blue and Whites have conceded two defeats: at Sporting (34-29) and then at home to Dinamo Bucharest (26-28)
Xavi Sabate's men got back to winning ways against Ostrow Wielkopolski (30-23) on the opening day of the league season
On Sunday, Les Rouge et Bleu regained their confidence and continued their unbeaten run in the league with a comprehensive 39-31 win over Dunkerque at Coubertin. The Parisians will now be looking to get back to winning ways on the continental stage, with a second consecutive away game following a difficult trip to Veszprém (41-28) last week
Fresh from their first Polish league title since 2011
Wisla Plock made some big moves this summer
bringing in a number of new signings to keep an eye on
In addition to Nantes goalkeeper Viktor Hallgrimsson
the Poles also nabbed Mitja Janc and Tim Cokan
who formed a formidable duo at Celje last season
To compensate for the departure of left-back Tin Lucin
the Polish champions have managed to repatriate Zoltan Szita
who challenged the Parisians last season while playing for Szeged
Another familiar face for Les Rouge et Bleu is Marko Panic
Une publication partagée par ORLEN Wisła Płock (@sprwisla)
the capital club have made Plock one of their favourite targets on the continental stage
Les Rouge et Bleu have won all eight of their head-to-head meetings with the Polish outfit
Raul Gonzalez's men won both legs to book their place in the quarter-finals
Sporting and Veszprém will both be looking to continue their unbeaten run on the continental stage
It promises to be a spectacular encounter between the two best attacks in the EHF Champions League over the first two rounds
A few hours before Plock and Paris face off
Fredericia will be aiming to pick up their first points in Europe as they take on Füchse Berlin for the very first time
also in search of a first result on the continental stage
Having beaten Fredericia and Plock in their opening two games
the Romanians of Dinamo could make it three wins in a row and take top spot in the group

Although he has played two matches back with Veszprém
Palmarsson has yet to net a Champions League goal this season

The Government Plenipotentiary for CPK has approved the selection of Variant W41 as the preferred option for the high-speed railway lines No
5 and 50 on the CPK Node – Płock – Włocławek section
The multi-criteria analysis indicated that Variant W41 received the highest score and is characterized by the lowest number of developed properties that would need to be acquired for the project delivery
This section will be an important part of the CMK North railway line as well as the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T)
The selection of the preferred option for the approximately 150-kilometre-long section is the result of months of work conducted as part of the Technical-Economic-Environmental Study (STE¦)
Considering the duration of various investment phases
the completion of the railway line could take place after 2035
As part of the TEN-T extended core network
this section may be eligible for European Union funding applications
a hybrid option – Variant W41 – was developed
Variant W41 has the least impact on built-up areas
In each of the models examined in the multi-criteria analysis – developmental
and environmental – this route received the highest ratings
This also results in the least disturbance to environmentally significant areas
The CMK North railway line was planned as early as in the 1970s as an extension of the Central Trunk Line towards Kujawy region and the Tricity
set to be built as High-Speed Railway line
will be the necessary addition to Poland’s railway network while significantly reducing travel times
the journey from Płock to Warsaw Central station will take approximately 50 minutes by train (currently
the journey from Włocławek to the same station will take around 1 hour and 10 minutes by train (currently
Both lines are intended for mixed traffic: freight and passenger
The work is being carried out by a consortium of companies: IDOM Engineering
The selected preferred option will be incorporated into the Integrated Railway Network project
under which an evaluation of the long-distance railway network will be conducted
The Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) is a strategic investment aimed at creating a modern national transportation system that efficiently integrates air
a new state-of-the-art central airport will be built between Warsaw and ŁódĽ

InvestingPolish Energy Company Orlen Pulls Plug on Key Petrochemical Project on Ballooning CostBy Maciej MartewiczPublished: December 11, 2024 at 2:54AM EST
(Bloomberg) -- Poland’s Orlen SA is slashing its biggest petrochemicals investment after construction costs jumped more than sixfold, downsizing the project to one based largely on already built infrastructure. The stock dropped.
The decision comes amid a review by the state-controlled company’s new managers as they seek to rein in spending planned by their predecessors, who turned Orlen from a oil refiner and retailer into a sprawling national energy champion with side businesses such as running newspapers.
“In its original form, it was a monumental, unnecessary, badly prepared, wrongly estimated and completely irrational investment,” Chief Executive Officer Ireneusz Fafara told reporters in Warsaw on Wednesday. “We’ve chosen the best of bad available options.”
The Olefin III project has ballooned into a 51 billion zloty ($12.6 billion) “trap” that is no longer tenable, the Plock, Poland-based company said in a regulatory filing. The facility was initially seen costing 8.3 billion zloty.
Orlen will use already-built infrastructure to pursue a new ethylene unit, which is set to start operating no earlier than 2030. The new investment will cost an additional 21.4 billion zloty, including financing expenses and will generate earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization at 550 million zloty to 800 million zloty annually.
Orlen shares dropped as much as 3.3% and traded 1.9% lower as of 10:48 a.m. in Warsaw, the biggest daily slide since Nov. 19. The planned internal rate of return on the new project is “limited,” according to Michal Kozak, an analyst at Warsaw-based broker Trigon Dom Maklerski SA.
The new management of Orlen, appointed after the 2023 parliamentary elections, has pledged to respect minority shareholders as well as focus on profitability and core operations, making a clean break with its predecessors who were routinely accused of focusing on political goals.
Nevertheless, Orlen’s market valuation has shrunk by a quarter since Fafara was picked in April. The selloff has mainly stemmed from a prolonged uncertainty over the future of costly investments as well as uncertainty over dividends.
The firm plans to publish its new strategy in January.

The top positions in both group of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League are confirmed since Thursday night: By winning their respective matches of round 12
Veszprém and Barça cannot get passed anymore in the rankings
Both will finish on top and both are the first sides to book their quarter-final tickets
Sporting and Berlin fight for the second spot
in group B the direct duel of Aalborg and Nantes in the final round will decide
GROUP AOrlen Wisla Plock (POL) vs Füchse Berlin (GER) 32:27 (19:11)
What is the secret behind Orlen Wisla Plock’s international resurgence over the winter break
the Polish champions followed up with another impressive victory
overpowering Füchse Berlin in the first half and securing a well-deserved win
the key players were Czech sharpshooter Tomas Piroch
and Icelandic goalkeeper Viktor Hallgrimsson
managing just six goals in the first 19 minutes
eventually stretching their lead to eight goals at half-time
Although the Foxes improved their attacking efficiency in the second half and reduced the deficit
Orlen Wisla Plock solidified sixth place in the standings with eight points
Berlin missed a golden opportunity to overtake Sporting CP and match second-placed Paris
but they still have a chance to secure a direct quarter-final spot
MOTW: One Veszprém HC (HUN) vs Sporting CP (POR) 33:32 (16:17)
high-quality Match of the Week in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League
Sporting’s Orri Freyr Þorkelsson had a chance to equalise but missed
securing Veszprém’s 11th victory in 12 group matches and confirming them as group winners
and Berlin remain locked in a battle for the second direct quarter-final ticket
Hugo Descat (8 goals) and Ludovic Fabregas (7 goals) combined for 15 goals for Veszprém
while Sporting’s goalkeeper André Kristensen stood out with 14 crucial saves
Þorkelsson and Martim Costa each netted eight goals for the Portuguese champions
leading by four goals multiple times before half-time
Just before the break the referee Jesper Madsen collapsed and had to be carried out of the arena on a stretcher
His colleague Mads Hansen had to officiate the remainder of the game alone
Madsen is reported to be in stable condition and is expected to recover fully
Veszprém gradually found their rhythm but the outcome remained uncertain until the final moments
Martim Costa’s last-minute equaliser (32:32) kept the tension high
but Marguc’s sixth and final goal clinched the victory for Veszprém
HC Eurofarm Pelister (MKD) vs Dinamo Bucuresti (ROU) 25:24 (12:13)
HC Eurofarm Pelister edged Dinamo București in a tense
The game-winning strike came three minutes before the final whistle
preventing them from securing an early playoff ticket
With Eurofarm Pelister and Plock now level on eight points
the Polish side holds the tiebreaker advantage
having won the direct head-to-head matchups by a +5 goal aggregate
Dinamo remain in fifth place with 10 points
Barça (ESP) vs Industria Kielce (POL) 30:28 (14:13)
In their first EHF Champions League match since the severe knee injury of goalkeeper Gonzalo Perez de Vargas—who is out for the rest of the season—Barça faced a tougher challenge than expected
Like in last week’s defeat against Magdeburg
Industria Kielce put up a strong defensive performance
Kielce have been overtaken by Kolstad in the standings and have dropped out of the top six for the first time this season
though the gap to Kolstad remains just one point
The first half was tightly contested and only the opening minutes of the second half proved decisive in this rematch of the 2022 Champions League final
Barça’s Emil Nielsen dominated the goalkeeper duel
making key saves that kept his team in control
When Xavier Rodriguez scored to make it 27:22
and Kielce’s late comeback attempt fell short
Top scorers of the match were Jorge Maqueda (Kielce) and Timothy N’Guessan (Barça)
the defending champions now sit at 19 points
As those two teams face each other in the final round
they cannot both reach 19 points—securing Barça’s top position since they hold the tiebreaker over both teams
