WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 16, 2024) - D.C. United has signed Brazilian winger João Peglow from Radomiak Radom in the Polish first division, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). The Black-and-Red have signed Peglow to a three-year deal through 2027 with an option in 2028.
“Peglow is an exceptional young talent with great technical ability and speed, making him a threat in our transition into attack.” Ally Mackay, D.C. United General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer, said. “He is a player who likes to take on defenders and has great attacking awareness. We believe he will a great fit in Troy’s system, and we’re excited to integrate him with the team ahead of the 2025 MLS season.”
The Brazilian winger joins D.C. United after spending the previous season with Radomiak Radom in Poland. Peglow signed with Radomiak Radom on March 19, 2024, from Brazilian side SC Internacional and made his debut for the Polish side on April 5, 2024, in a 2-1 league win over Raków Częstochowa. In one season with Radomiak Radom, Peglow appeared in 26 matches, scoring one goal and recording two assists in 1,780 minutes played across all competitions.
Peglow has represented the Brazilian youth national team at the U-16 and U-17 levels playing in both the 2019 South American U-17 Championships and the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He had an impressive year with Brazil, winning the 2019 U-17 World Cup while scoring three goals in the tournament and amassing 529 minutes played. This ultimately led to Peglow signing with SC Internacional’s first team for the 2020 season.

which is yet another of the city's major thoroughfares transforming with new residential and commercial development
Houston-based Radom Capital bought the 25,000 square feet of street-level commercial and retail space in a 59-unit mixed-use condominium development called Willa
Willa was developed by Austin-based StoryBuilt
which was founded in 2001 as PSW Real Estate and built numerous dense residential and mixed-use projects in prime locations around town
StoryBuilt ran into financial trouble and entered into a voluntary receivership on July 31
More: After furloughs, reorganization, struggling Austin developer enters voluntary receivership
The company's financial collapse prompted the layoffs of dozens of employees
and lawsuits filed by condominium owners and investors
StoryBuilt put 28 commercial and residential properties on the market
Radom purchased the retail space and commercial ground-floor space
plus underground parking and some additional storage units
The condominiums on the second through fourth floors were already sold to individual buyers and were not included in Radom's purchase
Over time we would like to create a more cohesive and vibrant tenancy to better service the neighborhood," said Steve Radom
Radom Capital’s founder and managing principal
More: Exclusive: Austin urban developer StoryBuilt reorganizes, furloughs staff
The purchase signifies Radom Capital’s confidence in Austin’s growth and vibrancy as a city
“This acquisition is particularly meaningful for me
as Austin is a city I called home for over seven years while attending the University of Texas as an undergraduate and in law school," Radom said
"Returning here to invest in a community that has shaped me is both professionally and personally fulfilling."
Radom Capital's purchase comes after Guaranty Bank & Trust
Another StoryBuilt project — a stalled apartment development called Bruno across from Polvos Mexican Restaurant on South First Street — also was foreclosed on in December 2023 by the lender
More: Troubled Austin developer StoryBuilt didn't follow typical accounting practices, report says
A report filed in court last year by the court-appointed receiver
said StoryBuilt did not follow "typical accounting practices."
the Austin Business Journal reported that more recent findings from Stapleton
"allege that StoryBuilt funded real estate acquisitions prior to raising money from investors
used funds allocated for one project to pay 'fictitious profits' to investors of others
frequently blended project funding with other sources and gave preferential treatment to certain investors

Radom Capital executives said the acquisition is a milestone for the real estate investment and development firm
M-K-T and 3201 Allen are some of the firm's best-known projects
The company also has been involved with more than 20 smaller scale retail projects in Houston and San Antonio over the past few years
Chris Bourne and Travis Brown of Guaranty Bank & Trust facilitated the transaction
with brokerageservices provided by Doug Rauls and Chris Boyd of Colliers in Austin
“We sincerely enjoyed collaborating with Guarantee Bank & Trust on this acquisition and extend our gratitude to Colliers for their professionalism throughout the process,” said Marc Weisselberg
“We look forward to making Willa a part of Austin’s thriving community and hope this marks the beginning of a long and productive relationship with the city.”

What was once a warehouse in Memorial City will soon become a mixed-use space with offices
Radom Capital and MetroNational plan to transform the 35,000-square-foot warehouse at 1085 Gessner Road into a mixed-use hub called Greenside, the Houston Chronicle reported
The project marks the first collaboration between the two Houston-based developers
Radom Capital was founded 10 years ago and is known for projects like M-K-T Heights
was founded in 1959 and is now under the leadership of third-generation CEO Jason Johnson
The developers have enlisted Michael Hsu Office of Architecture to design the project
The development will feature a 1-acre park with a jogging trail and pedestrian paths that connect to nearby retail
Fifteen small retail spaces will be available for lease
Details of the office component weren’t reported
Barton Kelly of Radom Capital will oversee leasing for the development
SIGN UPConstruction is scheduled to start next spring
The Memorial City warehouse redevelopment is not the first adaptive reuse project in the Houston area where Radom Capital has partnered with another developer
Earlier this year, the company, led by Managing Principal Steve Radom, joined forces with Triten Real Estate to transform the former Swift and Company building, at 621 Waverly Street. The developer is also transforming the former Tower Theatre and the three adjacent buildings along Westheimer Road

Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Radom stirred up memories and stories for one of the parish’s oldest members
Kula was born in the house he has lived in his entire life
except for the three years he served in the Navy
where they raise beef cattle and grow corn
“My grandfather bought the property more than 100 years ago,” Kula said
owns it and works it with the help of his son
Michael his entire life and attended the grade school from 1939-47
when the School Sisters of Notre Dame taught there
the school had a house for boarding students during the week
He remembers when the boarding house was destroyed by fire in 1941
“The boarding students stayed in one of the four classrooms after the fire.”
He added: “The fire happened in the winter
and we had to still go to school the next day
We sure had fun ‘skating’ on all the ice.”
“He would play baseball with us at the noon hour
Kula recalled stories about Sister Jacynpha
“I remember to this day Sister Jacynpha telling us to fold our hands facing upward after communion,” Kula said
“She would tell us to do this to pray to God and not the devil,” he said
Kula’s stories about walking to and from school are not the typical “we walked uphill both ways,” that you often hear told by elderly people
his story is about walking the Illinois Central double-railroad tracks 2 1/2 miles to get to school and then to return home
“It was dangerous walking the railroad tracks,” Kula said
reminding them to not look at the trains when they went by
you would get cinders in your eyes from the steam engines
“It was definitely a different time back then.”
The first time Kula rode the train was with five friends
“Being a farmer prepared me for boot camp,” Kula said
Kula said he prayed fervently while he in was in the Navy
He was very much interested in returning to the farm
but the pull of the farm was there,” Kula said
“I prayed every night while in the service
Kula said if he hadn’t left the Navy when he did
They met in 1945 at the bingo stand at the parish picnic at Holy Childhood of Jesus in Mascoutah
They were married for 61 years before her death six years ago
“Edie was really the answer to my prayers,” Kula said
“I thank God for her every morning and every night.”
They had seven children and now have 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren
Kula enjoyed attending the 150th anniversary celebration of St
“The church was the fullest I have seen it in about 20 years,” he said
“I shared many conversations during the luncheon.”
The estimated attendance at the Mass was 500
The anniversary celebration began with a polka Mass
which is a Roman Catholic Mass that uses polka tunes or waltzes instead of traditional hymns
Polka Masses are usually held by congregations that consider the polka to be an important part of their ethnic heritage
Diocese of Belleville Bishop Michael McGovern concelebrated the Mass with Fr
“I’m very pleased and proud to be here with you,” Bishop McGovern told the parishioners
thanking them for their “150 years of faith
“You have much to be proud of,” he continued
“There have been many twists and turns over the years
There has been lots of hard work over the years.”
Bishop McGovern marveled at the sturdy construction of the church
which was built without pillars on the inside
“This is one of the most beautiful churches in our diocese,” Bishop McGovern said
Photos and artifacts about the history of the church were on display in the basement of the church after the Mass
29 celebration also marked the 100th anniversary of the current church building
Photos from the event are posted on the church’s Facebook page

I’ve known Todd for nearly 20 years and am proud to call him a friend
As I prepare to make my exit from Uni Watch
it seemed appropriate that I should do one last interview with him
I’m happy to say that the resulting piece

I received a note the other day from longtime reader and UNC uni scholar James Gilbert
Before the North Carolina men’s basketball team debuted their Alexander Julian-designed uniforms in the fall of 1991
several drafts of the designs were revealed during TV coverage of the 1990 NCAA Tournament (not the 1991 tournament
So I’m putting this request out there to the Uni Watch comm-uni-ty to see if anyone can find that video
I think it was part of the Final Four show on Saturday
It was a short segment and the sketches were only briefly displayed
If anyone has access to this video, you know what to do

Keith said the Mets never had numbers on the front of the jersey before
I can’t see anything besides floating numbers
I thought they were a VT cow pattern at first
I kind of give slack to GI Joke efforts that are this badly executed
Not even the cannon-fodder troops the Soviets threw into the forests of Finland in the Winter War of 1939-40 were that poorly camouflaged
So it looks less like a “support the troops” message than a “support rare heritage dairy cattle breeds” message to me
I found that you can paint the rubber or the plate by cleaning and sanding it a bit
priming with Rustoleum Painter’s Touch White Primer
then two coats of Rustoleum Painter’s Touch Flat White
The last year they had Mets on the road was 1986
the Goodman jersey had a clunky script and I also see no evidence of the 25th anniversary patch
The script is a nice looking Rawlings script (which they should try to go back to immediately on the current home jersey)
So the pic could be in a range of 1983-1985
Paul, another home run with the Todd interview! You’re not going out with a bang; you’re going out with a mushroom cloud. Not unlike the Richland Bombers… link
The first-year Nationals’ uniforms are some of the most underrated in baseball history
They did themselves no favors by misspelling the team name a few times
a problem that could have been overcome by printing the name with sublimation and stitching the tackle twill over it
Just curious on if there have been any of Todd’s designs that you were not a fan of and have told him
Or are you more of a friend that keeps your opinions to yourself
And except for the Shea Stadium patch (as a Mets fan I loved it
I don’t think I’ve ever offered him feedback
“Uni Watch is great!” (or words to that effect)
I don’t think he’s ever offered feedback on anything I’ve written
We’re friends and mutual fans with a lot of mutual respect
Those broad themes matter more than the specifics
This was the unexpected email message I received from Andrzej Folwarczny, the founder of the NGO I had traveled with to Poland in November 2014. He was referring to a woman named Sharon whose family, like mine, was from the city of Radom. She had also traveled to Poland with the same NGO I did, Forum for Dialogue
uncles and cousins had been murdered in Poland during the Holocaust
Her father and both my parents survived and immigrated to the United States after the war
During that first conversation we realized it was impossible to escape this legacy
although Sharon and I had each spent most of our lives trying to break free of it
We might have continued to remain merely phone friends and email correspondents except for the coincidence that my husband and I would be traveling to the West Coast a few weeks later
staying just 30 miles south of Sharon’s home near San Diego
Once home to 100,000 citizens pre-World War II
industry and scholarship in the Kielce province
roughly a 90-minute drive from Warsaw and Krakow
A vibrant Jewish community of 30,000 represented almost one third of the total population then
No one in either of our immediate families ever returned to Poland
Di Polishe hobn undz kimat ale umgebrakht,” my mother would say
The Poles killed almost all of us.) My mother blamed Poles and Nazis equally
Those few family members that did survive the Nazi death camps – Auschwitz
Buchenwald and Dachau – had done so thanks to skill
shared some of his experiences and pain with her; my parents largely remained silent
including surviving family members who lived near them in Brooklyn; even to me
I suspect they were terrified of once again losing those they loved
If Sharon had any emotional scars from growing up as the child of a survivor
I was more restrained and an attentive listener
I learned about Sharon’s father’s nightmares and anger
which led to verbal abuse and violent outbursts
he threw plates or whatever might be in easy reach
but realizing how she had lived throughout her childhood was astonishing to me
So many survivors channeled their pain into anger
channeled their anguish into excessive protection and emotional restraint
but I never felt fear or danger in their presence
Sharon and I met for lunch at La Costa Resort in Carlsbad
with beautiful olive skin and a wide smile
We hugged as close relatives would and began talking
We discovered our families had lived two streets away from each other in Radom before the war
When I showed her my iPhone photos of the neighborhood where my family once lived
The home of my mother’s family was now boarded up
and several heavy support beams on all sides to keep the building from collapsing
“My father lived at Szpitalna just across the same square,” Sharon said
but there was no mistaking the powerful connection between us
I sensed a certain irony in our talking about the harrowing experiences of our survivor parents while we took in the view of the golf course and savored our delicious lunch
“My parents would have never eaten in a place like this; they rarely ate out,” I said
“My mother used to say: “Never eat out in restaurants; they’re dangerous
Who knows what they put into the food?” Sharon nodded and laughed
I mentioned that my carry-on bag had been damaged beyond repair
“Let’s go look for a new bag; there’s a great little shopping center nearby,” Sharon said
The shop was filled with no-name merchandise
in black and suitable for International flights.”
The clerk went into the back storage area and returned with the perfect black Samsonite
For my parents and probably other survivors
luggage was no ticket to freedom or joyful new experiences
but rather unplanned journeys likely to end in tragedy
We drove to Radom and walked the very streets our families once walked
community leaders and government officials and a literature teacher
Meeting Zbigniew through an NGO called Forum for Dialogue was the beginning of an extraordinary partnership
we began restoring the narrative of the Jewish community in Radom
Our first collaboration was the Jewish Trail
launched with twelve descriptive plaques marking significant Jewish sites from Radom’s past
Included was the site of the Orthodox synagogue
helped us plan and co-host almost 70 local officials
for the first public Seder in Radom in decades — possibly since the end of the War
We returned to Radom days before the Seder in April 2016
The Haggadah we had prepared was printed up beautifully as a blue and white booklet
The Seder was held in the dining room of the city’s Jewish community center
A huge U-shaped table was covered with white linen tablecloths
Flowering branches graced the towering windows
At every table setting lay a copy of our Haggadah and an individual Seder plate with the haroseth we had prepared with the chef
The cooking staff also made pierogi from scratch and a variety of salads
Zbigniew and I greeted everyone with a “chag sameach!” (Hebrew for “Happy holiday!”)
I asked how many in the room had ever been to a Seder before
which a volunteer then translated into Polish
Only our family members raised their hands
with several local teachers translating certain passages into Polish
connecting generations of people of different faiths through the story of Passover
Sharon and I have returned to Radom many times
We took part in an annual Jewish culture festival
hosted Shabbat dinners and welcomed descendants of the city from France
This past September we vacationed in northern Poland
I know my cautious mother is shaking her head somewhere
puzzled about my friendship with another daughter of Jews from Radom that she never knew
That possibility continues to delight and preoccupy me
As for the Samsonite bag I bought at the bargain store
is taking me to places I’m no longer afraid to visit

Lech Poznań failed to hold onto the two-goal advantage and had to share league points with Radomiak
The 2:2 draw was a reason to celebrate for Raków Częstochowa
who now have a 2-point advantage over their opponent in the season's final stage
Lech Poznań has been performing impressively over the past few weeks
They travelled to Radom to face Radomiak after 4 wins in a row
Niels Frederiksen’s players already knew that if they wanted to hold onto their position in the league table
winning against the opponent from Radom hasn’t been an easy task – ever since they advanced to the top division
Lech has failed to defeat Radomiak when playing away
The Sunday match couldn’t have begun better for Frederiksen’s squad as they found the back of the net for the first time in the 5th minute
Filip Jagiełło spotted Mikael Ishak inside the box and served him a perfect pass
which the Swede converted into a goal with a strong shot under the crossbar
Lech continued dominating on the pitch following their successful offensive attempt
but didn’t create many goal-scoring opportunities
when Joel Pereira crossed the ball into the box and Marcho Burch’s poor defensive intervention allowed Jagiełło to head the ball into the back of the net
Lech left for the break with a comfortable
Lech in the second half looked nothing like the team that scored twice in the first 45 minutes
Frederiksen’s squad lost control of the game and struggled a lot with Radomiak’s pressing
the hosts didn’t cause problems to Bartosz Mrozek
Wojciech Mońka made a costly error and passed the ball to Capita
who didn’t hesitate as he fired a strong shot from outside the box at Lech’s goal; the attempt was impossible for Mrozek to stop

Russian Telegram channels, pro-Kremlin media outlets, and English-language accounts on the social network X are circulating a video of a fire in the Polish city of Radom
claiming that Ukrainians were allegedly responsible for the incident
It is reported that on the night of May 30
a fire supposedly destroyed a large logistics hub in Radom (168 Warszawska Street - ed.)
where military goods were stored for delivery to Ukraine
The local fire department allegedly reported that more than 6,000 square meters burned down
and that the damage to the property exceeded $120 million
There was indeed a fire at 168 Warszawska Street in Radom
but it was a hardware store with a warehouse
not a logistics hub with military equipment
the scale of the fire was much smaller than the propagandists claimed
A Google Maps search revealed that the area of the store with a warehouse was slightly more than 1,000 square meters
confirmed that a warehouse for construction materials is located at that address and that a fire had actually broken out there that day
Investigators from the local Criminal Investigation Department are working to determine the circumstances of the emergency and who may have been involved in the incident
the police officer clarified that the fire area was not large and that only building materials partially burned
The Radom fire department also confirmed the fact of the fire that day
they denied that they had reported a fire on an area of 6,000 square meters
noting that the fire covered an area of only about 300 square meters
pallets of building materials burned in this place and they are not aware of any assistance for Ukraine
It can be concluded that the warehouse did not contain military aid to Ukraine
Russian propagandists used the fact of the fire to blame Ukrainians for it in order to cause additional tension in Ukrainian-Polish relations
they attempted to spread a fake that Ukraine had lost a large batch of military aid that was being prepared for Kyiv

the Catholic diocese of Radom notified prosecutors of potential crimes committed by Mariusz W
after they received testimony from several young women who claimed to have been abused by him
The priest – who also worked as the youth chaplain for the Radom diocese and academic chaplain and lecturer at a university in Radom – was immediately removed from his functions and restrictions were placed on his priestly ministry
“The authorities of the Radom diocese have received with regret the information about the priest’s reprehensible actions and apologise to the wronged persons and all those who were affected by the cleric’s unacceptable conduct,” wrote the diocese at the time
prosecutors have investigated the claims against Mariusz W.
including interviewing his alleged victims
That led them on Monday to bring charges against the priest
a court approved the prosecutors’ request to place Mariusz W
he is also accused of incitement to give false testimony
Prosecutors have issued a call for any other alleged victims of Mariusz W
In May this year, the newly appointed head of Poland’s Catholic episcopate, Tadeusz Wojda, was accused of negligence in dealing with reports of sexual abuse carried out by one of his subordinates
he allegedly argued that no abuse had taken place because “it was just groping”

One Houston-area city took the top slot on a new list of "the 100 Best Places to Live in 2025." The list — from relocation marketing platform Livability.com — put Sugar Land at No
3 for its appealing size and affordability
The list was restricted to small and mid-size cities with populations between 75,000-500,000 residents
And it also considered only cities with a median home value of $500,000 or less
They considered factors such as average rent and home prices relative to income to keep their list centered around affordability
And while Sugar Land did come in at No. 3, the site specifies that the list is not a numbered ranking but one where users are encouraged to create their own ranking based on personal priorities
Sugar Land earned the third highest score out of all the cities on the report
with a LivScore totaling 854 out of 1,000 possible points
with a population of more than 118,000 residents and a median household income that's well into the six-figures
Homeowners have median home values of $402,094
"The city is known for being one of the more affluent and rapidly growing master-planned communities in Texas, and the area saw a huge population boom in the late ’90s that has continued to grow," a profile says
Sugar Land has 27 city parks that include 35 miles of trails.sugarlandtx.gov/
Sugar Land ranked the highest for its health (89)
The report said it's a "business-friendly" city
bolstered by its residents' entrepreneurial spirit when it comes to biotech
Livability also praises Sugar Land's lively art scene, safe neighborhoods
including the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land
which features a unique saltwater aquarium
and the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center with various interactive and engaging exhibits," the profile says
the Triple-A Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Houston Astros."
Seven other Texas cities were also included in the list of best places to live in the U.S.: Flower Mound (875 points)

A rebuilt airport has opened in the city of Radom on the site of a previous airport that went bankrupt due to a lack of passengers just three years after beginning operations
“We have lifted the curse from this city,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the official opening ceremony yesterday ahead of the first scheduled flight
Most tracked flight right now – first passenger flight to "new" "Warsaw" Radom Airport https://t.co/gLl2owzzg4 pic.twitter.com/ywJK6sR7f7

Warsaw Radom Airport – as the facility
around 100 kilometres south of the capital
is now named – has a new terminal built from scratch
The previous incarnation of Radom Airport declared bankruptcy in 2018
the airport – which had been owned by the local authorities in Radom – was bought by state-owned operator PPL
as well as stakes 14 other airports around the country
— Mateusz Morawiecki (@MorawieckiM) April 27, 2023
PPL oversaw the 800 million zloty (€174 million) reconstruction of the airport in Radom
with an operating licence then issued in March
It currently offers regular flights to five destinations – Paris
Preveza and Varna – as well as charter flights to Antalya
The first departures from the airport – to Paris and Rome – will take off today
The airport is expected to handle around 200,000 passengers this year
Its terminal currently has a capacity of up to 1 million passengers a year
with PPL saying that could eventually rise to over 3 million

“This airport makes great economic sense,” said Morawiecki at yesterday’s opening
“Warsaw [Chopin] is absolutely overloaded
so opening this airport makes great infrastructural and logistical sense.”
The prime minister also argued that the new facility will help “open the whole region” around Radom to further development
As well as serving passengers in its own right, Warsaw Radom Airport is also designated as a backup facility for the government’s flagship project to build a new “mega-airport” between Warsaw and Łódź
Once that opens – currently scheduled for 2027 – Warsaw Chopin will close to civilian passengers
The company implementing the government's plans to construct a new "mega-airport" and transport hub has signed an agreement for design work totalling 7bn zloty (€1.5bn)
It is currently the largest such agreement of its type in Europe, claims the firm https://t.co/k8iNROUBic
