Poland is hailing a $2 billion agreement this week with the United States for training and logistical support tied to its Patriot missile systems as a significant development in a program to upgrade the key NATO ally’s air defenses
technical assistance and simulation-based training tools
The package will help a Polish air defense squadron reach full operational capability by the end of the year
“Poland is an exceptional example of good cooperation for the defense and security of Poland
NATO and Europe,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in the statement
a country that respects alliances and respects all agreements.”
Poland now spends over 4% of its gross domestic product on defense
and South Korean K2 tanks and K9 howitzers
furthers Poland’s push to modernize its medium-range air defenses and bolster its ability to intercept aircraft
“This is an important moment,” Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said
adding that the investment will allow Polish troops to train in simulated attacks and respond with increasing readiness
Poland’s Patriot launchers operate within the U.S
Poland is the only country besides the United States to field the advanced networked system
The Polish air defense initiative is part of a broader military overhaul that gained urgency following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022
Russian missiles and drones have entered Polish airspace during attacks on Ukraine
including a suspected drone incursion in August
Bernard (Berisz) Kampelmacher was born in 1889 in Stanisławów (today Ivano-Frankivsk
he fought in the Austrian Army and received officer’s ranks
he became a teacher employed at the Common School in Sochaczew
a town without any Jewish cultural organizations
Kampelmacher decided to establish a sports club
whose rehearsals were held in a room he rented
took place in the hall of a defunct Jewish school
Raised money was spent to buy a ball (among others)
The first attempts to play took place at the city market
The first coach was a student and member of one of the Warsaw teams
the Jewish Sports and Gymnastics Society was placed on a registry of associations
they began to expand their offer – including handball
non-professional photography and tourist trips
Kampelmacher was also organizing evening dance meetings on holidays such as Purim and Hanukkah
but also without occasion (such as the Dance Evening with the Warsaw Jazz Orchestra)
The Sports Club had their own accommodation
and the team began to wear uniformed outifits – tops with black and white stripes
and emblem saying „Tourism and Sports Club” in Yiddish
where he played matches against other teams
The last enterprise Kampelmacher participated in was construction of tennis courts outside of the city
The Jewish youth went there with spades and axes and cleaared the ground which was later covered with asphalt
The idea of building a sports hall wasn’t eventually put into practice
Kampelmacher was moved to Grodzisk Mazowiecki
where he had been working as the principal of the State Common School no
He was teaching Polish for Jewish children and organized trips to Żelazowa Wola
where he also established a children’s sports club and an orchestra
[3] He was also leading the Jewish Department of the Polish Red Cross
We also know that his son died before the war broke out
the memories of the cemetery in Sochaczew are a wound which won’t heal
because aside from my close friends and students
on the most beautiful provincial Jewish cemetery
sculpted on the monument cut sharply like his young life
Kampelmacher didn’t give up on his involvement in social activism after September 1939
He became a member of the Jewish Council in Grodzisk (he was leading the council for some time as well) and the president of the Delegation of the Jewish Social Self-Help
When the Jews of Grodzisk were resettled to the Warsaw Ghetto in February 1941
he became the leader of the Grodzisk landsmanshaft
Emanuel Ringelblum made him an offer to write a monograph of Grodzisk
which Kampelmacher responded to enthusiastically
The Ringelblum Archive contains over a dozen sketches he wrote about the history of the Grodzisk Jewish community
a chapter on industry and education before the war
and of Jewish collaborators during the war
Kampelmacher also wrote monographs of several locations in the Sochaczew county: Podkowa Leśna
He was receiving a symbolic payment for his work
Kassow notes that a ot of material submitted by him to the Archive proves that he was a diligent
Kampelmacher coped amidst the chaos of the Warsaw Ghetto thanks to self-imposed discipline and love for order
Kampelmacher was also involved in attempts to improve the critical condition of education in the Warsaw Ghetto
He proposed to organize schools in connection with the home committees
which he described in his project from May 1941
„An attempt to resolve the problems of common education in the Jewish district of the City of Warsaw”
Ringelblum wrote: Many valuable contributors have died due to typhus
principal of the Polish school for Jewish children in Grodzisk
Comrade Kampelmacher was one of the most dedicated social activists in Grodzisk
he had discovered a right place for himself
He planned to write an extensive monograph about the experiences of the Grodzisk Jews
He began with the situation before the war
The first chapters were lively and interesting
Kampelmacher expressed thankfulness for an opportunity to work with Oneg Shabbat every time he saw me
He wanted to dedicate himself fully to this noble work
He only regrets that he has lost so much time unaware that this work was being done
Kampelmacher became infected with typhus during his work as a delegate of his landsmanshaft

Three hospitals have launched Poland’s first regular long-haul drone delivery service
which from today will begin flying between Warsaw and the towns of Pułtusk and Sochaczew
After successful tests that began in autumn 2020
the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA)
has allowed for regular shuttles starting on 17 February
The service will run along approximately 60-kilometre routes connecting the Czerniakowski hospital in Warsaw with hospitals in the Pułtusk and Sochaczew
which are north and west of the capital respectively
Source: PANSA
The vertical take-off drones will fly at an altitude of 100 metres above the ground and travel at an airspeed of 72 kilometres/hour. Last year. drones were used on shorter distances of 7km to connect hospitals in Warsaw, including the COVID-19 field hospital at the national stadium
who heads the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) coordination department at PANSA
the main goal of the project is to shorten the delivery time of medical samples
The drones may carry samples of blood or material for coronavirus tests
TOK FM notes that Polish regulations do not provide for blood and tissue samples to be transported by unmanned vehicles
and so the service may be used to transport medical equipment
Only 1.5% of pharmacies sign up to Polish government’s free Covid testing scheme
The company operating the flights will be responsible for their safety
as well as granting the right of way to other airspace users
The drones will be centrally controlled from the headquarters of the entity overseeing the flight
hospital employees will be tasked with placing the medical load in a special container
PANSA has appealed to users of airspace in the area to be “particularly careful” when planning and operating flights
It noted in a press release that the drones would avoid landing sites and areas used by paragliders and motor gliders

troops stand near Patriot air and missile defense systems in Sochaczew
during a 2015 military exercise meant to demonstrate the U.S
military's capacity to rapidly deploy such systems within NATO territory
plan to provide Ukraine with the Patriot air defense system will impede Moscow's strategy of pressuring Kyiv into negotiations by destroying the country's critical infrastructure
But outstanding questions regarding the delivery of the system and Ukraine's needs for other military hardware mean it will also not give a decisive edge to Ukraine
media reported that Washington was preparing to provide the Patriot surface-to-air missile system to Ukraine
Patriot systems could reportedly arrive in the war-torn country in a matter of weeks once Ukrainian troops finish training to use them in an accelerated program at a U.S
The Patriot has different models of varying capabilities
but can have up to eight launchers that can each hold four missiles with the capacity to strike targets as far away as 99 miles (approximately 160 kilometers)

The Talmud records the tradition of a blessing recited upon the establishment of Jewish communities after the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem:“One who sees houses of Israel in their inhabited state
king of the universe,] who sets firm the widow’s boundary stone” (Brachot 58b). “One who sees houses of Israel in their inhabited state
king of the universe,] who sets firm the widow’s boundary stone”
The exercises aimed at their integration process first began at the firing range in Torun
today they are taking place in the 3rd Warsaw Air Defense Missile Brigade in Sochaczew
take a position and of combat preparation," said Mariusz Blaszczak
Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of National Defense
during a meeting with soldiers of the missile brigade
the head of the Ministry of Defense observed the training of the 37th Air Defense Missile Squadron from the 3rd Warsaw Air Defense Missile Brigade as part of the "PATRIOT Familiarization" training package
We are in the middle of an missile and air defense troops' exercise
The purpose of these exercises is to improve capabilities to move the unit
but also to synchronize the various elements that make up the PATRIOT team
I want to emphasize very strongly that all related to comments regarding the exercise is our conscious action
we address to you a request not to inform about the movement of Polish or allied troops
We are all aware that there is a war going on beyond our eastern border
These exercises are designed to deter the aggressor
so we show the combat readiness of the Polish Armed Forces
- I want to firmly underline that these who takes part in the exercise are a team of experienced people and trained people
and now they are just sharpening their skills
which serve the security and defense of our Homeland
Soldiers from the 3rd Warsaw Air Defense Missile Brigade began training in handling and moving equipment
as well as developing combat group outside the place of permanent dislocation
among others at the Warsaw-Babice airfield
The "PATRIOT Familiarization" training
which deepens soldiers' equipment handling skills
is the next stage of the new IBCS and PATRIOT systems' implementation into the Polish Armed Forces
The head of the Ministry of Defense announced that a team composed of soldiers from the 3rd Brigade will soon leave for the United States
they will come back with experience in the implementation of the battlefield management system - a state-of-the-art battlefield management system
- said the head of the Ministry of Defense
we also ordered a state-of-the-art battlefield management system
Only in the US Army and the Polish Armed Forces is this system being implemented
This is an integrated battle command system - a state-of-the-art
once again I repeat network-centric system that will allow very efficient use of individual elements precisely ensuring security against air and missile threats
This is the most modern formula in the world
I am proud of the fact that the Polish Armed Forces
will have this very system in just a short while
The head of the Ministry of Defense recalled that the experience of the war in Ukraine clearly shows how important it is to ensure anti-aircraft and anti-missile security
Deputy Prime Minister said that 17 countries around the world have the PATRIOT system
and the Polish system that is currently being deployed is the most modern version
- I thank all the soldiers very much for taking over their duties so efficiently
This is a quality leap in terms of providing anti-aircraft and anti-missile security
but we are also implementing a system based on Polish-British solutions
we use British missiles on Polish elements
- The most important thing is that Polish soldiers operate this equipment very efficiently
And just today I am asking you to speak very widely on this subject
to inform the public because this is a very significant part of deterrence policy
To show that the Polish Armed Forces are equipped consistently with modern weapons
that the soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces are well trained
the head of the Ministry of Defense signed a Request for Proposal for the procurement of 3 squadrons or 6 batteries of the Patriot system including omnidirectional radars

Poland’s defence ministry has announced a $1.2 billion (4.7 billion zloty) deal to domestically produce launchers for Patriot air defence systems
The 48 M903 launchers will be produced by Polish state-owned defence contractor Huta Stalowa Wola S.A
in cooperation with US defence giant Raytheon
The announcement marks the beginning of the second phase of Poland’s flagship short-range Wisła air defence programme and is the first of a number of military procurement deals expected to be announced ahead of Poland’s upcoming Armed Forces Day
“We are beginning to sign a series of contracts to strengthen Polish security,” said defence minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz during the signing ceremony in Sochaczew
“Security is a fundamental and priority issue
Security that must be present in every Polish home.”

Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the fact the launchers would be manufactured in Poland is “a great achievement” and “the fulfilment of our promise [that] 50% of arms expenditure should be located in companies that operate on the territory of Poland”
“Poland is among those countries in Europe that have the greatest trust from the United States. This is evidenced by the transfer of the latest technology to us,” he added, noting that Poland was the first and only country to obtain the Integrated Battle Command System from the US in a $2.5bn deal signed in February
Sixteen Patriot launchers were already produced by Huta Stalowa Wola S.A
during the first phase of the Wisła programme under the former Law and Justice (PiS) government
the first Patriot systems procured by Poland from the US were deployed at the Warsaw-Babice airport
“To produce these launchers in Poland
30 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union
is something that tells us so much about the level of trust between Poland and the US,” said the US ambassador to Poland
the former commander of the Polish Land Forces
played down the significance of the agreement in remarks to industry news service WNP
which the general described as effectively a “box for missiles” that “does not contain particularly complex elements”
“will not push the technological capabilities of Polish [defence] companies forward”
A military official involved in air defence
though the website noted that producing the launchers domestically will provide revenue for and sustain jobs in Poland’s defence industry

Poland and the United States reaffirm their long-standing and increasingly intensive cooperation in the area of security
a Polish-American intergovernmental agreement was signed for the implementation of Phase II of the Wisła program
The nearly $2 billion agreement involves further development of air defense systems
and training equipment for Polish soldiers
It marks another step toward building a multi-layered missile defense system and tightening the strategic alliance with the USA
Poland is becoming a model for Europe in terms of defense investments — both in terms of expenditure and political determination
The agreement was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense
as the country currently spending the most — relative to its financial capabilities — on defense
is a record holder in NATO and a unique example in today’s complex times," emphasized Prime Minister Tusk during the signing ceremony in Sochaczew
He also noted that Poland is not only investing but consistently building trust as a stable and responsible ally
"Today we mark another milestone in our shared defense and security cooperation
as well as in modernizing Poland’s air defense capabilities," added U.S
Chargé d’Affaires Daniel Lawton
The contract between Poland and the United States also provides for future collaboration aimed at strong and credible NATO forces
Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the goal of these investments is not only to deter aggressors but also to build strength through an efficient and modern army
"Politicians are responsible for peace
These investments exist to preserve that peace
We will not terminate any contracts — on the contrary
they should at least not interfere," stated the Minister in the context of recent disinformation regarding cooperation with the USA
The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that defending values such as freedom and security stems from strength — that of the military
at the 3rd Warsaw Air Defense Missile Brigade
a key agreement was signed as part of the second phase of the Wisła program
The location was symbolic — this is where the initial operational readiness of the 37th Missile Squadron was announced
National and international security are the pillars of lasting peace
Poland not only participates in the alliance but sets standards and inspires others to act
"Let Poland be an example that stable loyalty to allies and investments in security are the foundations of Western civilization," said Prime Minister Donald Tusk
Building defense capabilities is also an expression of our responsibility to the entire NATO alliance and the values we represent as the West
The agreement within Phase II of the Wisła program establishes real deterrence and proves that Poland treats security not as a declaration
The first two batteries under the Wisła program will be delivered between 2026 and 2027
A shared message during the ceremony was the need for unity and determination in the face of modern threats
Poland is actively working for regional security — from supporting Ukraine to building the Eastern Shield and strengthening synergy between the EU and NATO
"I am convinced that Poland’s example will resonate in the hearts and minds of all Europeans and Americans
It really is worth following Poland’s and Poles’ example
and a sovereign Ukraine — these are the elements of a safe future for our nations," the Prime Minister declared
He also thanked the soldiers in Sochaczew for their daily service
which gives Poles a genuine sense of security
includes the delivery of equipment and logistical support for already operating Patriot batteries
as well as training devices enabling intensive system operator instruction
The agreement is to be implemented through 2032
"This is an investment in the existential security of the Polish state
multi-layered air defense system," emphasized Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz
He noted that the costs of air defense are high
but incomparable to the cost of losing independence
The comprehensive air defense program includes very short-
with the most critical component being the latter — the Wisła program
Cooperation with the USA gives Poland access to top-tier technologies
which are the foundation of a modern national defense
"This system is not handed over to just anyone
It is a sign of trust and an example of deepening Polish-American partnership
Poland was the first country to acquire the most advanced radar and command system — and the first to announce its initial operational readiness," noted Daniel Lawton
The signing of the agreement under the second phase of the Wisła program is a milestone for Polish defense and a symbol of the enduring North Atlantic Alliance
It’s further proof that Poland doesn’t just talk about security — Poland builds it
The strength of the alliance isn’t measured only by signed contracts
