Driver in Stalowa Wola described fearing he had hit person after he saw body in road A funeral home in Poland has apologised after a body that it was transporting fell out of a hearse and into traffic. Polish media reported that a man was driving down a street on Friday in Stalowa Wola, a city in south-eastern Poland, when he saw a sheet on his car window. When the sheet slid down, he saw a body lying on the road. For a moment the driver feared that he had hit the person. Local media published an image of the body lying on a white-striped pedestrian crossing, where it had tumbled out of the hearse. The company transporting the body, Hades funeral services, issued a statement on Saturday taking responsibility for the incident and blaming a technical failure of the hearse. “It is with deep regret that we inform you that as a result of an unexpected technical failure of the electric tailgate lock in the hearse during the transport of the body of the deceased, an unfortunate event occurred which does not reflect the high standards of our company, our deep empathy towards the families of the deceased, and the respect we always show to the deceased,” the company wrote in a statement posted on its website. BusinessPoland Signs Deal With US on Patriot Missile-Defense SystemsBy Natalia OjewskaPublished: August 12, 2024 at 5:50AM EDT (Bloomberg) -- Poland signed a $1.2 billion agreement with Raytheon Technologies Corp. to produce components for Patriot air-defense batteries as Warsaw seeks to bolster its defenses.    The deal to produce 48 Patriot M903 launch stations strengthens the cooperation between the Polish and US defense industries and opens the way for further contracts to supply components through the end of the decade.  “When it comes to air defense, Poland has never been as advanced as it is today,” US Ambassador Mark Brzezinski said at an event at an air base west of Warsaw on Monday. US-Polish relations have “never been so close.” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has been ramping up calls for additional military spending as part of an effort to mobilize common defense in the European Union as Russia wages war in neighboring Ukraine. The Patriot — a battery costs about $1 billion — is a key element in Poland’s plans for air defense.  Tusk has championed a European air-defense shield in addition to ramping up Poland’s defense capabilities. He’s unveiled a 10 billion zloty ($2.5 billion) plan to upgrade protections along the Belarus border constructed by the country’s previous administration.  Warsaw has procured two Patriot batteries with 16 launchers that were manufactured by Polish defense firm Huta Stalowa Wola SA, which produces parts for German-made Leopard tanks.  The Patriot contract is the final stage for a process that began in 2017 under then-President Donald Trump, culminating in the June 2023 approval of Patriot sales worth as much as $15 billion.  --With assistance from Maciej Martewicz and Maxim Edwards. Borsuk have recently concluded and the report on the tests is being prepared either as a static display during the Air Show 2023 in Radom or during the parade celebrating the Polish Armed Forces Day in Warsaw this vehicle has only appeared in publications The Paris Eurosatory is one of the world’s most important defense industry exhibitions making it an excellent opportunity to present the Borsuk to a wider audience The opportunity is even better given that the amphibious IFV from Stalowa Wola recently completed its qualification trial program as the test report is still being finalized and the official information on its results is not yet available there are signals indicating positive results One of these is a statement by Krzysztof Trofiniak in which he mentioned that he expects a contract for the delivery of Borsuks to the Polish Army to be signed later this year the qualification trials for the Borsuk were completed they were supposed to conclude in 2023 The delay may be due to Huta Stalowa Wola making some design changes during the trials to address the so-called teething problems of the new vehicle indicating that the manufacturer is effectively responding to emerging issues which will ensure that the production models will be free of most of the defects that appear in the initial period of operation The tests performed within the qualification trial program were conducted in cooperation with the Military Institute of Armored and Automotive Technology (WITPiS) as well as in proving ground training centers Soldiers from the 16th Mechanized Division also familiarized themselves with the operation of the new vehicle conducting trial operations with the Borsuks at the Military Proving Ground in Orzysz in the fall of last year The soldiers of the 16th Mechanized Division will be the first to receive the new infantry fighting vehicles from Stalowa Wola they had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the vehicle and provide their comments and observations regarding the need for any changes to enhance the functionality of the Borsuk The Borsuk underwent a comprehensive testing program that included traction and off-road capability tests and assessments of ballistic and mine protection effectiveness The vehicle’s telecommunication and information equipment was also tested Tests concluded this past winter also included firing of 30 mm cannons installed in the ZSSW-30 the unmanned turret developed in cooperation between Huta Stalowa Wola and the WB Group The tests conducted at the training ground in Nowa Dęba included firing both from a stationary and a moving vehicle Firing was conducted at both static and moving targets the Borsuk’s armament demonstrated its high effectiveness The testing of the new Stalowa Wola vehicle was conducted by the Testing Group from the Military Institute of Armored and Automotive Technology and took place under the supervision of the Qualification Testing Commission The commission includes representatives from the Armament Agency the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces the Support Inspectorate of the Armed Forces the Department of Innovation of the Ministry of National Defense the National Centre for Research and Development During the parade celebrating Polish Armed Forces Day on August 15 the public had the opportunity to see four vehicles that participated in the trials Attentive observers noticed that one of the vehicles was equipped with new elastomer tracks which were one of the elements tested during the trials program According to information obtained from Huta Stalowa Wola in February of this year the test results for these tracks were very promising They have a longer lifespan than traditional tracks which improves the Borsuk’s buoyancy and are more road-friendly on paved surfaces their resistance to damage from explosive charges is so high that the explosive force needed to destroy the elastomer track would also damage other components of the running gear there is little risk of track breakage that would paralyze the Borsuk’s mobility The only drawback is that they are a single integral element meaning there is no possibility of replacing a damaged section as with traditional tracks four Borsuks were delivered to a Polish Army unit where they are undergoing evaluations in a systemic environment of a frontline unit This will accelerate the process of developing combat usage guidelines for the Borsuks Four units are sufficient to verify operational assumptions at the level of the smallest subunit in a mechanized division The concept of conducting trial operations with four Borsuks emerged shortly after the first unit was presented The goal was to shorten the trial operation period and develop a concept for utilizing the vehicle’s capabilities before its widespread deployment in military units begins In the context of the completion of the trials, it is worth mentioning that this past winter, Huta Stalowa Wola presented a new turret with the Rak mortar (HSW modernizes the Rak mortar) Although this solution was mainly designed for the new light tracked chassis HSW management representatives pointed out the possibility of installing it on the Borsuk chassis The weight of such a configuration allows the vehicle to retain its amphibious capabilities Although a Borsuk in this configuration has not yet been created it can be expected that such a configuration will also appear in trials in the near future As for the ZSSW-30 remotely controlled turret it is currently integrated with the Spike LR/LR2 anti-tank missile launcher it may also be integrated with other anti-tank missiles Let us recall that the framework agreement signed by the Ministry of National Defense (MON) includes the delivery of 1,400 Borsuks This number includes several hundred chassis for special configurations The presentation of the Borsuk at Eurosatory may be a signal that PGZ is interested in offering this vehicle to customers from other countries Will HSW’s production capacity be sufficient to meet the needs of both the Polish Army and foreign customers simultaneously We do not know the answer to this question yet although it seems that HSW will be operating at full production capacity for the next few years (producing more than just Borsuks) Another question mark is the full results of the recently concluded tests although many indicators suggest that the Borsuk will meet the military’s expectations — Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa🇵🇱 (@PGZ_pl) June 14, 2024 Some are China-based OEM LiuGong has sold its crawler dozer factory in Stalowa Wola the company it acquired the Dressta dozer business and manufacturing plant from in 2012 LiuGong is retaining ownership of the LiuGong in Stalowa Wola will transfer to HSW but around 15% will stay with LiuGong to work in a new regional sales hub in the city that will include European parts distribution training and demonstration facilities and local sales LiuGong said the transfer of production to China would increase efficiency and speed up the expansion and renewal of the range It also expected this to mean shorter lead times particularly for customers in emerging markets would allow dealers to reduce the levels of inventory they hold “We are maximising our production capability while investing in building and strengthening our retail and customer support offer.” LiuGong’s acquisition of the Dressta business in 2012 was the company’s first acquisition outside China and as such was seen as a significant step in the company’s internationalisation The company stated from the outset that it wanted to use the facilities it acquired to manufacture other LiuGong products for the European market Crawler excavators and wheeled loaders were produced in Stalowa Wola from the mid-2010s onwards the factory’s remote location in southeastern Poland and its poor transportation links proved to be a barrier to scaling up production efficiently managing supply chains and being able to ship finished machines to customers in a timely and cost-effective manner The outbreak of war in Ukraine dealt another blow with sanctions preventing the sale of Dressta dozers to Russia historically one of the business’s most significant end-markets LiuGong is one of the world’s largest OEMs. To see exactly (Yicai) Oct 9 -- Chinese construction machinery supplier Guangxi Liugong Machine is selling its Polish production facilities to Polish state-owned military equipment and heavy construction machinery maker Huta Stalowa Wola but will retain the world-renowned Dressta brand Liugong’s Polish unit Liugong Dressta Machinery is selling the land factories and equipment that it obtained when it bought Polish bulldozer manufacturer Dressta and Huta Stalowa Wola’s construction machinery business in 2012 to Huta Stalowa Wola for PLN212 million (USD49 million) All factory employees will also be transferred to the Stalowa Wola-based company which it has built into a leading global bulldozer company with Poland as its European regional headquarters southwestern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region-based firm said It will transfer manufacturing back to China and will continue to sell finished machine and components as well as provide after-sales services This will help slash Dressta’s manufacturing costs by more than 30 percent and greatly boost profitability Liugong is expected to make PLN74 million (USD17 million) from the sale The assets were valued at around PLN205 million by UK professional services partnership Ernst & Young slightly lower than the sales price of PLN212 million that was negotiated by both parties Liugong Dressta will focus more on research and development design and marketing to provide more reliable and tailored solutions for the European market There has been regional insecurity in recent years amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Polish government is encouraging SOE’s to acquire high-quality industrial assets Liugong's share price [SHE: 000528] was trading down 1.9 percent at CNY7.04 (USD1) as of 1 p.m Borsuk is an amphibious combat vehicle with high manoeuvrability and superior water obstacle crossing capabilities Borsuk (Badger) is a modern tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) intended to safely transport the crew and dismounted soldiers on the battlefield It is manufactured by a consortium led by Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) a subsidiary of Polish Armaments Group (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa Wojskowy Instytut Techniki Pancernej i Samochodowej The amphibious IFV is intended to replace the Soviet-era BWP-1 IFV fleet in service with the Polish Armed Forces HSW commenced the development of the Borsuk IFV in 2014 The programme is partially funded by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCRD) under an agreement signed with the consortium leader HSW A full-scale model of the Borsuk IFV was presented at the MSPO international defence exhibition held in Kielce while a prototype equipped with the ZSSW-30 remote weapon turret was showcased at the MSPO exhibition in September 2019 The preliminary tests including swimming and firing trials of the vehicle are scheduled for completion by the end of 2021 The qualifying tests are expected to take place in 2022 The serial production of the Borsuk IFV is anticipated to commence in 2024 The Borsuk IFV will feature a composite rubber track (CRT) system supplied by Soucy Defense Each track will integrate a continuously cased rubber band structure made of composite materials and steel cord The CRT system will reduce vibrations and weight when compared to conventional steel tracks The hull of the IFV can be configured into multiple versions such as infantry fighting vehicle The vehicle is also designed to easily overcome all types of water obstacles and operate in difficult terrains and harsh weather conditions The vehicle is equipped with ZSSW-30 remote-controlled turret system (RCTS) integrated with a 30mm canon and an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) launcher system The turret was jointly developed by HSW and WB Electronics making it the first indigenously manufactured unmanned tower construction The RCTS allows the IFV to engage enemy light armoured targets along with allied enemy infrastructure in adverse climatic conditions The turret is equipped with independent biaxially-stabilised observation devices and a standby observation device with a wide-angle periscope It also integrates an OBRA-3 SSP-1 laser radiation detection system The turret can fire in automatic and emergency modes and support the futuristic programmable ammunition (ABM) the commander observes the area around the IFV for the target and can point it to the gunner through the hunter-killer mode upon finding the target The turret then automatically aligns itself towards the direction of the target The killer-killer mode is preferred in the instances where the commander doesn’t have much time to inform the gunner about the target The Borsuk IFV is powered by a MTU 8V199 TE20 diesel engine The power-pack for the Borsuk IFV was indigenously developed by Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne The amphibious vehicle is propelled in the water by two water jets mounted at the rear side of the hull Give your business an edge with our leading industry Frosty Chimney Urban Park and Installation Project, which won the first prize for ‘Creating Space with Membrane’ competition. The purpose of the contest was to give a concept that shows a search for new uses for diaphragms in urban public spaces. Participants were to find new and interesting ways of membranes and showing the diversity that one can establish with its aid. A diaphragm is synthetic, subtle but flexible and heavy material, which is considered as the lightest material which allows us the evolution of space. Membrane structures are very specific. The nature of their work is directly linked to their form. More images and architects’ description after the break. Frosty Chimney combines the functions of seats and street lamps while also being a characteristic landmark in space. Thanks to the strength of the surface membrane, it is possible to sit or lie on it. It creates a chill space for pedestrians to rest, and stays cool on scorching days due to its sheer and reflective material. Courtesy of Tomasz Ostafin, Krzysztof Pydo-Bytom & Stalowa WolaThe proposed installation takes the form of a tower or lamp. The characteristic form of Frosty Chimney creates a gathering point in cities. Moreover, the transparency of the material with waterproof LED strips provides light in the dark.
