Molex has opened a production campus in Katowice
“The facility’s initial 23,000m2 manufacturing space will serve as a strategic central location to facilitate delivery of medical devices for Phillips-Medisize
as well as electric vehicle and electrification solutions,” according to Molex

“Future expansion of up to 85,000m2 is built into growth plans for the facility
adding to existing [Polish] sites in Rokitki and Sulęcin.”
Capability will include medical device assembly
plus battery connectors and high-power busbars will be made for the other markets mentioned
“The large pool of skilled manufacturing and engineering resources in the Katowice area was a major factor influencing Molex’s selection of the site location,” it said
the first facilities within the campus will employ approximately 350 employees
design engineers and quality specialists.”
The campus will be the first site for both Molex and Phillips-Medisize to hold LEED Gold sustainability certification

Poland facility in November 2023.[Image courtesy of Molex]
Molex previously announced the opening of the Katowice campus in November
The facility’s initial 23,000 square-meter manufacturing space serves as a strategic central location to manufacture and deliver advanced medical devices for Phillips Medisize
as well as electric vehicle and electrification products for Molex customers
Molex’s ambitious growth plans for the facility include expansion to 85,000 square meters
further increasing Molex’s presence in Poland
which includes existing sites in Rokitki and Sulęcin
“Achieving this first LEED Certification is an important step forward for our facility in Poland and underscores Molex and Phillips Medisize’s leadership in innovation
design and manufacturing,” said David Thoreson
“This milestone also demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship and lowering resource consumption in the development and manufacturing of innovative products.”
The Katowice campus complements existing Phillips Medisize operations in Poland and at six European manufacturing sites in Letterkenny and Sligo
LEED is the world’s most widely used building rating system recognizing significant environmental benefits
“It provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings that offer environmental, social and governance benefits. Additional certifications and registrations for the phase 2 building at the Katowice campus are pending.” (gbci.org)

Dutchman Derreck Bac runs a company called Springfresh in Sulecin
This is a vegetable processing and cleaning business
It now also supplies a mash made from onions
Derreck Bac in between his Polish colleagues
"I came to Poland 15 years ago," begins Derreck
"My cousin had a grain company here and washed a few Brussels sprouts on the side
He asked me to start farming with vegetables
So we decided to shift our focus entirely to processing
That's why we're making plans to start farming again."
"We still source most of our Brussels sprouts from the Netherlands
And for year-round supply from the UK and Morocco
most are done harvesting by the end of the year
truck Brussels sprouts in from the Netherlands."
"And then sell most of them back to that country
There's still quite a bit of manual work involved
so it's greatly advantageous to have our processing plant in Poland
We supply the German and Polish markets and indirectly to the United Kingdom too
There's a significant increase in processed vegetable sales in Poland," explains Derreck
Sulecin is right across the German border and 100 km east of Berlin
All the loads we send today reach our clients tomorrow
The plant runs during the day and we arrange logistics at night
But we closed the site where we started in 2019
Derreck's family still lives in the Netherlands and he always goes home on weekends
I have no intention of going to Poland weekly again
because I have good people whom I trust 100% there
We used to have 300 but are putting a lot of effort into automation
the availability of good people is becoming more and more of a challenge
That's actually a bigger problem than labor costs
are tackling the necessary automation projects in-house."
Springfresh hopes to penetrate new markets with its self-developed onions and Brussels sprout puree
"We've finished developing it and are now looking for clients
we've mainly supplied vegetable processors and the hospitality industry
these processed products appeal much more to meat processors and fresh meal
We recently started producing pickled onions too
we've developed a product for a whole new client base
We're excited about entering new markets," says Bac
Both Springfresh's trading and processing activities are Skal certified
But it's a challenge to balance demand and trade." In 2019
this company became the first in Poland to obtain Planet Proof certification
we believe that working more sustainably should an internal decision
we extract heat from our refrigerating system to heat the building
We use our residual heat in the mashing process
I expect our trucks will be running on alternative energy within a few years

Israeli forces shelled a watchtower near the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) in the Lebanese town of Naqoura on Friday
reports emerged of three other UNIFIL positions being shelled
Israel’s actions have been criticized by the Italian authorities
as Italian soldiers make up the largest contingent of the more than 10,000-strong UNIFIL force
UNIFIL’s Naqoura headquarters was affected by explosions for the second time in the last 48 hours
"We strongly condemn acts of aggression against UN soldiers
We express firm opposition to the aggressive actions of the Israeli army near peacekeeping forces," emphasized Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz
The politician reassured that recent incidents in areas where Polish soldiers are stationed
related to Israeli military actions along the border with Lebanon
have not affected the Polish troops deployed there
He received this confirmation during a phone conversation with Lt
the commander of the Polish military contingent in UNIFIL
Kolejne incydenty w miejscach stacjonowania żołnierzy UNIFIL związane z działaniami wojsk Izraelana granicy z Libanem. Przed chwilą rozmawiałem telefonicznie w Dowództwie Operacyjnym z dowódcą PKW UNIFIL Liban, ppłk. M. Fabiszewskim.Incydenty nie dotknęły w żaden sposób… pic.twitter.com/EVjAAKMLn5
Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz condemned the attack
labeling it unacceptable and calling for an end to such actions
Although the attack did not involve Polish soldiers
the minister noted that the situation in the region
Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that Poland is monitoring the situation and taking allied actions
but could do even better if a Polish ambassador to Israel were appointed
indicating that now is a good time to make a decision regarding this nomination
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski reported that his proposal for the ambassador to Israel
concerning former head of the Intelligence Agency Maciej Hunia
received positive opinions from the Foreign Service Council and the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee
the president has not signed off on this nomination

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
confirmed that Hunia will soon take over the leadership of the Polish embassy in Israel
but currently without formal ambassadorial nomination
The conflict between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the president regarding ambassadorial nominations has been ongoing since March
with Prime Minister Donald Tusk accusing President Andrzej Duda of blocking nominations in key countries
while Duda responded that the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are responsible for the absence of ambassadors
As we previously reported on Radio Poland, the Polish Prime Minister criticized the president for blocking ambassadorial nominations. In his view
Duda’s refusal to approve new ambassadors amid the highly tense international situation is "extremely irresponsible."
shifts the blame for the absence of Polish ambassadors in countries like Israel
claiming that he has not dismissed any diplomats himself
