military is increasing its contingent of troops in Germany by 1,500 soldiers in a decision praised by Berlin as a show of commitment to Europe's security
announced on Friday by the military's European headquarters near the city of Frankfurt
is yet another move signifying an increasing involvement of U.S
despite President Donald Trump's repeated utterances that collective security is worth more to Germany than to his country
"The addition of these forces increases US Army readiness in Europe and ensures we are better able to respond to any crisis," the U.S
Army in Europe's headquarters in Germany said
according to German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle
The redeployment will take place between now and September 2020 and will result in U.S
personnel taking up positions in the southern German state of Bavaria
The troops consist of a field artillery brigade headquarters
travelling with two multiple launch rocket system battalions
a short-range air defense battalion and some supporting units
They will deployed across three different facilities in the state
Support units will also travel outside Bavaria
as German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen said the move is testament to the bond between Washington and allies in Europe
decision to increase the military presence here in Germany is a welcome sign of the vitality of the transatlantic relationship and a commitment to our joint security," she said
although not a huge percentage increase considering around 33,000 active-duty U.S
is nonetheless in sharp contrast with many statements made by Trump which call into question Germany's worth as an ally to the U.S
While U-turning on calling NATO "obsolete" since coming into office
he has written on Twitter that he would like the U.S
to pay less for the alliance and other allies to pay more
he recalled an unspecified conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel where he took issue with Germany specifically
but we're protecting you and it means a lot more to you than protecting us cause I don't know how much protection we get by protecting you," Trump told the crowd in Montana
Despite Trump's rhetoric on the issue, his administration has made no attempt to scale back practical or financial support for European defense. A recent investigation by Newsweek found that the Trump administration has increased spending on U.S
This adds up to an additional $1.4 billion for drills and operations on European soil
Newsweek is committed to challenging conventional wisdom and finding connections in the search for common ground

Poles fought a battle crucial not only for their country’s fate but also for the future of all of Europe
The Battle of Warsaw that halted the Bolsheviks’ march westwards and put paid to their plans to spread the revolution to Western Europe is deemed the 18th most breakthrough battle in the world’s history
Poland celebrates the Armed Forces day on 15 August each year
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki took part in the ceremonies at Józef Piłsudski Square in Warsaw
as well as at the Marshall Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek
this was not the only thing that made this year’s celebrations special
President Andrzej Duda signed an act on the reconstruction of the Saski Palace and the Brühl Palace
as well as the tenement houses at Warsaw’s Królewska Street
This investment project will restore Józef Piłsudski Square to its former glory
“The victory in the Battle of Warsaw in August of 1920 gave both Poland and the Baltic states 20 years of independence
Europe has the Polish soldier to thank for the defence of the Latin civilisation
Poles would have been doomed to suffer the same fate as their compatriots who had remained in the Soviet Union”
“Become a soldier of the Republic of Poland” was the slogan of this year’s Armed Forces Day – yet another anniversary of Poland’s victory over the Bolsheviks
With 30 military picnics held all around the country
this was an excellent opportunity not only to celebrate but also to promote the Polish Armed Forces
playgrounds for children and military kitchens were just some of the attractions made available to the public during this year’s event
picnic participants had a chance to get vaccinated against COVID-19
The main Armed Forces Day ceremonies were held at Józef Piłsudski Square in Warsaw
They were attended by both President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki
the event programme included a Remembrance Roll Call
ceremonial changing of the guard and raising of the national flag
as well as laying a wreath from the Polish Nation on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
“This reconstruction should have taken place a long ago
these wonderful structures will be restored to the people of Warsaw
said President Andrzej Duda during the signing of an act on the reconstruction of the Saski Palace
Brühl Palace and tenement houses at Warsaw’s Królewska Street
The event was also attended by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki
the Marshall Józef Piłsudski Square will regain its former glory
The buildings around it date back to the 17th century
They served an important purpose after Poland regained independence but were destroyed during World War II
“I would like to thank everyone involved in the reconstruction of the Saski Palace
Brühl Palace and tenement houses at Królewska Street – a building complex that used to be a symbol of Warsaw”
Defeating the Bolsheviks in 1920 was made possible by a bold strategic plan prepared by Józef Piłsudski
Combined with the heroic struggle of soldiers
it stopped dead the plan to spread the Bolshevik revolution across Western Europe
soldiers gazed eastwards at the approaching Bolshevik storm – fearlessly
Mr Morawiecki also noted that the battle of 1920 fought on the outskirts of Warsaw was a clash of two civilisations – the European civilisation defended by Poland and the Bolshevik destruction brought about by the communist troops headed straight for Warsaw
Marshall Józef Piłsudski is a symbol of Poland’s fight for independence
He is also an excellent role model for the next generations of Polish patriots
“We have had many great generals and leaders in our history
but that Marshall Piłsudski combined all their excellent qualities at the time when Poland was regaining its independence was an enormous stroke of luck
We owe him a lot – us and all of Europe alike
We should boldly and loudly speak out about this
Historical amnesia is the first step towards losing one’s identity”
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki commemorated Marshall Józef Piłsudski
The head of the Polish government laid flowers at the monuments at Piłsudski Square and near the Belweder Palace
The Museum was opened by President Andrzej Duda and Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński on 14 August 2020
a day before the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw
It allows visitors to learn about Marshall Piłsudski in terms of historical
Prime Minister Morawiecki visited the Museum itself and took part in local celebrations
including a patriotic and military concert
would not be possible if it had not been for the battle and victory 101 years ago”
Visitors to Sulejówek had a chance to enjoy a plethora of attractions
the celebrations included a presentation by the 1st Warsaw Armoured Brigade
the Brigade’s primary equipment is Leopard tanks – which could also be seen during the celebrations
