A third 2025 duel between Paula Torres and Kimberly Garcia produced a hat-trick of wins for the Ecuadorean - but this time by just one second
the result was in doubt until the last 50 metres when Torres squeezed out all she could to break the tape just ahead of the two-time world champion
Garcia kept striving to make the all-important gap
Even when both shrugged off the challenge from Viviane Lyra with 3km to go
there was never more than a stride between them until the finish recorded by Torres in 1:28:29
with Garcia only a couple of strides behind
but for a long time she more than held her own against the other two
with a blue kinaesthetic strip protecting her right quad and right arm
augmented by Ecuador&rsquo;s Magaly Bonilla
followed a few metres back by double world silver medallist Katarzyna Zdzieblo
The initial pace was moderate for a quartet with PBs all comfortably under 1:30:00
but by 3km Zdzieblo was already a distant fourth with the rest of the small field fighting for the minor places
A small increase in tempo was too much for Bonilla
Torres carved the smallest of gaps just past 6km
but the other two quickly closed the gap with all of them detouring past standing puddles left by overnight rain
A 31:18 clocking at 7km was significantly faster
and this time Lyra and Garcia were the pair forcing the pace
It was 44:40 at halfway to underline a race getting serious
a fading Bonilla provided a welcome target for Zdzieblo at 14km
The Pole passed the Ecuadorean to take fourth albeit more than a minute behind the leading three
which proved too much for Lyra despite having race walked faster than the other two this year
while Torres and Garcia upped the gears to the finish
and it stayed that way over the final scintillating lap with Torres taking victory in 1:28:29 to Garcia&rsquo;s 1:28:30
the men&rsquo;s race was a comfortable stroll for Toshikazu Yamanishi in 1:20:48
the result was done and dusted very soon after 5km
the new world record-holder put the hammer down and all but disappeared into the distance
but the Japanese lead increased from there to the finish &ndash; albeit slowly
and Yamanishi&rsquo;s teammate Kazuki Takahashi was more than two minutes back in distant third
having covered the rest of the race solo from that 5km split
A bonus for race organiser and race walking great Robert Korzeniowski was greeting Maher Ben Hlima in fourth place
fresh off a Polish record of 2:27:51 over 35km in Dudince in March
and although the pace wasn&rsquo;t blazing fast
Koga was a casualty just after 3km and quickly went backwards
Takahashi detached almost immediately; Bonfim gave chase and just about held the initial gap to about 15 metres
the second group had absorbed Koga with fourth place now up for grabs
the world record-holder was away and comfortably gone
A glance across as he rounded one of the two 180-degree turns told him all he needed to know as early as 8km
Bonfim wasn&rsquo;t going down with a fight
The lead was indeed extending metre by metre but it was still only 11 seconds at 11km
Takahashi was isolated in third 1:04 further back
and Ben Hlima was 1:44 behind towing Germany&rsquo;s Nathaniel Seiler and Harun Bilir (Turkiye)
which left the Pole and the German a free ride to fourth and fifth places
The metronomic leader hit his watch at 15km (1:00:22) 21 seconds in front of Bonfim and 1:36 ahead of Takahashi
Ben Hlima was forging a gap over Seiler &ndash; and that final move decided the first five places

An electric vehicle manufacturer wants to change the auto industry with affordable EVs

Slate's move into the empty plant will bring about 2,000 jobs back to the Warsaw area
with the first cars expected to come off the factory line at the end of 2026
Slate hopes to build 150,000 vehicles a year at the plant
Slate will release electric trucks that start around $27,500 and could cost as little as $20,000 after <a href=https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2025/02/23/big-tax-credit-on-evs-is-in-limbo-what-car-buyers-should-know/78617162007/>federal tax credits.</a> Slate believes the price point could be game-changing for Americans searching for a more affordable ride

The company focuses heavily on customization through its online <a href="https://www.slate.auto/en/personalization?starterPack=blankslate">Slate Maker tool</a>
which customers can use to update vehicle preferences up until the day the car is made
but parts can be added to expand the car to a larger

Slate is already accepting reservations for cars with a $50 refundable fee

Further investigation revealed the fleeing vehicle had previously been reported as a stolen vehicle out of Nassau County

According to the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office
dispatchers were notified by a Warsaw police officer of a vehicle pursuit on West Buffalo Street (Route 20A)
Warsaw police located two vehicles involved in a head-on collision on Route 20A at the Orangeville and Warsaw Town border
The vehicle that was involved in the pursuit was reportedly down an embankment and on fire and the other uninvolved vehicle was stopped in the roadway
The sheriff's office said a passenger in the uninvolved vehicle
was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wyoming County Coroner
48-year-old James Stablewski of East Aurora
was critically injured and transported to ECMC by ambulance
The driver of the vehicle involved in the pursuit
was pulled from the burning vehicle by law enforcement and good Samaritans
Dewan was later pronounced dead at the Wyoming County Community Hospital
The investigation into the accident and the possibility of the fleeing vehicle being a stolen vehicle is ongoing
The sheriff's office also said the New York State Attorney General’s Office is also involved in the investigation per New York State Executive Law

(WPTA) - A new electric vehicle (EV) startup backed by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos has confirmed plans to bring a production facility to Kosciusko County
Slate Auto is a Michigan-based EV startup that builds a simplified two-seat pickup truck that starts at $25,000
which could cost under $20,000 after federal EV tax credits
On Wednesday, the company confirmed with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/slate-auto-electric-pickup-truck-indiana-factory-location-2025-4" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer" title="https://www.businessinsider.com/slate-auto-electric-pickup-truck-indiana-factory-location-2025-4">Business Insider</a> that it will assemble the EV trucks in Warsaw
expecting to make its first customer deliveries by the end of next year
It will take over the former RR Donnelly &amp; Sons Co
a 1.4 million-square-foot compound with two facilities at 2801 W Old Road 30
Business Insider reports the factory is expected to bring over 2,000 jobs to the city. Two men who died in a crash Friday morning in Wyoming County have been identified as Erie County residents

Passersby pulled Dewan away from the blaze
The Sheriff's Office said investigators are looking into whether Dewan was driving a vehicle stolen from Nassau County on Long Island

A former printing plant has been sitting empty for years
there’s growing speculation that a new electric vehicle company could bring it back to life
That electric vehicle manufacturing plant is backed in part by billionaire Jeff Bezos
It&#x27;s a 1.4 million-square-foot building that housed the former R.R
but public records and newly released details from a startup called Slate Auto suggest that it could soon change
The company announced plans to build affordable electric trucks in the US
pricing them under $20,000 after the federal EV tax credit
its CEO reportedly showed an aerial photo of a large factory
a photo that matches the Warsaw facility’s listing on the Indiana Economic Development Corporation’s website
Although Slate hasn’t officially confirmed the location
TechCrunch reports the startup is close to locking in the Warsaw site
The company has raised more than $100 million and the economic ripple could be significant
TechCrunch says officials told media earlier this year
that a company was eyeing the facility and that the project could create up to 2,000 jobs
WSBT 22 visited the site and ran into the plant&#x27;s facility manager
He seemed to know detailed information about the project and was willing to talk
but said he wasn’t cleared to speak on the record and then asked us to leave the property
WSBT 22 also reached out to multiple local and state agencies about Slate&#x27;s involvement
Warsaw&#x27;s mayor declined to comment but called any redevelopment of the plant exciting news
The Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce also declined to comment while the Kosciusko County Economic Development Corporation says it’s under a strict non-disclosure agreement and can’t share anything
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation did not respond to our request
WSBT 22 is staying on top of this potential project and will bring the latest updates as we learn them

the Wyoming County Dispatch Center received a radio message from a Warsaw Police Officer that the officer was in pursuit of a Blue BMW westbound on West Buffalo Street (Route 20A) in the Village of Warsaw
the officer radioed the Dispatch Center that the vehicle had crashed on Route 20A in the Town of Orangeville
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with the New York State Police
There was one vehicle with heavy damage in the middle of Route 20A
and the BMW had crashed off the south side of the roadway and was on fire
The Warsaw Officer and Sheriff’s Deputies were able to knock the fire down with extinguishers and pull the driver from the vehicle
The vehicle in the middle of the roadway was struck head-on by the BMW when the BMW lost control around a curve
was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wyoming County Coroner
died from his injuries ashort time later at the Wyoming County Community Hospital
The investigation is ongoing by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office regarding the accident and the possibility of the BMW being a stolen vehicle
The New York State Attorney General’s Office is involved in the investigation per New York State Executive Law
which requires them to investigate anytime there is a civilian death resulting from a police incident

At a news conference following the shooting
Theetge said officers with the department's fugitive apprehension team learned a stolen car was in the parking lot of the Westview Condominums
Radio traffic indicates officers arrived at the 2500 block of Warsaw Avenue around 9:30 a.m
when they encountered four people in the car
Theetge said the four people ran from the car and did not comply with the officers' commands to stop
Radio traffic indicates "three fled into the woods," and Theetge said the fourth person was shot by police
"At least one of them was armed with a firearm
Several officers gave chase," Theetge said
"One officer discharged his firearm toward the individual who had a firearm."
She said it is still too early in the investigation to discuss whether the person raised his gun or attempted to fire at officers
Theetge said two of the other three people were apprehended after a "lengthy" search involving K9s and drones
The department said it would release more information
including a description of the suspect at large
Cincinnati's police union released a statement saying the person "pulled a semiautomatic handgun and pointed it at police."
"Police officers around the country are trained to defend their lives and use deadly force when a suspect points a gun at them," police union president Ken Kober said
"When no officer wants to be forced to use deadly force
every Cincinnati police officer wants to make it home to their families."
The department did not release the name of the officer who shot the person in East Price Hill
For years, the department would release the names and information about officers involved. However, in recent months, the department has been withholding that information, citing <a href=https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/courts/2025/02/11/ohio-supreme-court-to-decide-marsys-law-case-involving-police/78410084007/>Marsy's Law, legislation meant to protect victims of crimes</a>

as we listen to his many friends and family relay their condolences
Jim&rsquo;s life was greatly influenced by his high school years
serving his fellow students as Senior Class President
as well as an award winning running back on the &ldquo;Hilltoppers&rdquo; football team
That distinction earned him a full ride scholarship to Purdue University when he graduated from Joliet Catholic High School in 1968
Jim continued his studies and ended college life with a BA in Business and Finance
then beginning a long career in the banking industry
and was joyfully welcomed into her large Slovenian family
Daughter Mary Amanda (Mandy) was born in 1974
The family loved snow skiing in Colorado and boating in Saugatuck
Jim and Peggy made many lifelong friends and were involved in numerous philanthropic organizations
Jim was shattered when Peggy died unexpectedly
Jim found love again with his current wife
Jill&rsquo;s family&rsquo;s vacation home on Long Lake in Phelps
Wisconsin became one of Jim&rsquo;s greatest pleasures
They continued to spend time there with friends and family during all the seasons
Their lives were devastated again when Mandy tragically died in 2020

He also loved bonfires at the lake or at his home
His appreciation of dachshunds began with Jill&rsquo;s Snoopy and continued with Lucy and Ollie

and held his extended family and friends close to his oversized heart
