Bonfim gave chase and just about held the initial gap to about 15 metres the second group had absorbed Koga with fourth place now up for grabs the world record-holder was away and comfortably gone A glance across as he rounded one of the two 180-degree turns told him all he needed to know as early as 8km Bonfim wasn’t going down with a fight The lead was indeed extending metre by metre but it was still only 11 seconds at 11km Takahashi was isolated in third 1:04 further back and Ben Hlima was 1:44 behind towing Germany’s Nathaniel Seiler and Harun Bilir (Turkiye) which left the Pole and the German a free ride to fourth and fifth places The metronomic leader hit his watch at 15km (1:00:22) 21 seconds in front of Bonfim and 1:36 ahead of Takahashi Ben Hlima was forging a gap over Seiler – and that final move decided the first five places Women1 Paula Torres (ECU) 1:28:292 Kimberly Garcia (PER) 1:28:303 Viviane Lyra (BRA) 1:28:544 Katarzyna Zdzieblo (POL) 1:30:335 Valeria Ortuno Martinez (MEX) 1:32:34 Men1 Toshikazu Yamanishi (JPN) 1:20:502 Caio Bonfim (BRA) 1:21:343 Kazuki Takahashi (JPN) 1:22:554 Maher Ben Hlima (POL) 1:23:345 Nathaniel Seiler (GER) 1:23:49 An electric vehicle manufacturer wants to change the auto industry with affordable EVs building the first cars in a former printing plant in northern Indiana Slate Auto, a young company backed by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, will build the first of its electric pickup trucks at the former LSC Communications printing plant in Warsaw Slate's chief executive Chris Barman told IndyStar last week Slate's second employee who was formerly with Chrysler grew up in Crown Point and she said she looked forward to bringing the company to Indiana Slate looked at a few states for the first production plant that will build the cars that company leaders hope will disrupt the American EV market where Tesla dominates "It fit our footprint," Barman said of the facility We absolutely loved the community of Warsaw and knowing that it was available and fit well with our needs for being able to manufacture the vehicle it rose to the top of the list of the place where we wanted to be." Such is life for Enzo Maresca at the moment. Losing 2-1 to Legia Warsaw on the night was embarrassing who seemed intent on giving the fifth-best side in Poland hope of pulling off a comeback for the ages at a disgruntled Stamford Bridge were shambolic and easily could have crashed out No wonder Maresca is not feeling the love from the crowd. Nobody celebrated Chelsea squeezing into a Conference League semi-final against Djurgården after winning 4-2 on aggregate. The defending was miserable and the attack was poor. Filip Jörgensen, Robert Sánchez’s understudy, was jittery in goal and the worries around Cole Palmer’s slump are not going away. Nobody had turned up expecting that they might be about to witness a Polish attempt at a remontada. Initially there was intrigue about Maresca naming such a strong side when Chelsea led 3-0 from the first leg There was no rest for Marc Cucurella at left-back although it was possible to interpret starts for Palmer and Nicolas Jackson as an opportunity to play themselves back into form That seemed a sound theory when Palmer surged through in the second minute failing to turn in a rebound after Jackson had a shot saved by Vladan Kovacevic and Maresca’s gamble was looking decidedly foolish when a nasty challenge from Tomas Pekhart left Chelsea’s chief creator hobbling in the 20th minute Pekhart squeezing a penalty past Jörgensen after being fouled by the goalkeeper The first hint of discontent from the home support came when Ryoya Morishita shot just wide after sprinting past Slate Auto is a Michigan-based EV startup that builds a simplified two-seat pickup truck that starts at $25,000 which could cost under $20,000 after federal EV tax credits On Wednesday, the company confirmed with Business Insider that it will assemble the EV trucks in Warsaw expecting to make its first customer deliveries by the end of next year It will take over the former RR Donnelly & Sons Co a 1.4 million-square-foot compound with two facilities at 2801 W Old Road 30 Business Insider reports the factory is expected to bring over 2,000 jobs to the city. According to News Now Warsaw 500 jobs were lost when RR Donnelly closed in 2023 The company is dubbed Slate as they refer to their base truck design as a “blank slate” a simplistic design that goes without tech add-ons and offers customers the ability to add their desired features Among the 100+ customization options is an SUV Kit that turns the truck into a five-seat SUV Customers can assemble the kit themselves or have it done for them The company focuses on offering an affordable EV model that delivers vehicles directly to customers rather than going through dealerships According to the Associated Press Slate is helping fill the need for an affordable EV option as the current average price for an EV in the U.S which can go up to $100,000 for some truck models like the Ford F-150 on a global scale a biomedical science teacher at Warsaw Community High School has been named the 2025 Battey National Educator of the Year by the Honor Scholar Program at DePauw University this award has annually recognized an outstanding secondary teacher who has inspired a current DePauw honor scholar and nourished their intellectual curiosity Throughout her 25-year career as an educator Love has enjoyed building relationships with her students and holding them to high academic expectations One of those students was Jacob Kissling ’25 whose nomination letter expressed gratitude for Love’s demanding yet compassionate approach within the classroom “As I work to balance multiple thesis projects extracurriculars and being a student-athlete I use the skills I gained in her class everyday,” wrote Kissling always either telling me I was smart enough to figure it out on my own or pressing me to get a better understanding of the concept Even though it was frustrating to get these responses I quickly realized that the work I had done then was now paying dividends as critical analysis was a crucial part of my success in college courses.” Love has facilitated a project-based program designed to expose her students to biomedical careers She notes that one of her most cherished professional highlights has been hearing from former students who have excelled in college or their careers because of the program she helped bring to life “Helping my students succeed when they did not think that they had it in them is very gratifying,” says Love “I love using project-based learning in my classroom where I am not the holder of the knowledge but rather the facilitator in the room to help them find their own understanding.” Love has received numerous accolades throughout her career including the WCHS Golden Apple Award (2023 the Indiana Academic All-Stars Certificate of Merit (2017) the DEKKO Award for Teaching Excellence (2003) 2014-2015) and the Warsaw Community be one of the biggest developments in years for Warsaw A former printing plant has been sitting empty for years there’s growing speculation that a new electric vehicle company could bring it back to life That electric vehicle manufacturing plant is backed in part by billionaire Jeff Bezos It's a 1.4 million-square-foot building that housed the former R.R but public records and newly released details from a startup called Slate Auto suggest that it could soon change The company announced plans to build affordable electric trucks in the US pricing them under $20,000 after the federal EV tax credit its CEO reportedly showed an aerial photo of a large factory a photo that matches the Warsaw facility’s listing on the Indiana Economic Development Corporation’s website Although Slate hasn’t officially confirmed the location TechCrunch reports the startup is close to locking in the Warsaw site The company has raised more than $100 million and the economic ripple could be significant TechCrunch says officials told media earlier this year that a company was eyeing the facility and that the project could create up to 2,000 jobs WSBT 22 visited the site and ran into the plant's facility manager He seemed to know detailed information about the project and was willing to talk but said he wasn’t cleared to speak on the record and then asked us to leave the property WSBT 22 also Commerce also declined to comment while the Kosciusko County Economic Development Corporation says it’s under a strict non-disclosure agreement and can’t share anything The Indiana Economic Development Corporation did not respond to our request WSBT 22 is staying on top of this potential project and will bring the latest updates as we learn them Submitted photo-note-a section of this Toshikazu Yamanishi and the ongoing battle between Kimberly Garcia and Paula Torres it could be a hat-trick for Torres over the Peruvian double 2022 world champion having secured victories at Dudince in March at 35km and Rio Maior earlier this month.  Torres set an Ecuadorian record of 2:44:26 Torres broke the tape in 1:29:37: 15 seconds ahead of Garcia This truly is the 24-year-old’s time with Olympic champion Brian Pintado working his way back to fitness following surgery on a troublesome groin this might be the year a female from the country of four Olympic medals adds another World Championships medal to her country's glittering pile while Garcia appears to be slowly recovering the shape that made her double world champion three years ago but clearly likes a visit to the Polish capital it offers a chance to get closer to Torres albeit in a distant kind of way – if their last two races are anything to go by But ready to throw a spanner in those works is Viviane Lyra race walked a notable 1:28:30 to win the South American Championships in Argentina just last week (25) That is a considerably better mark than Torres’ PB of 1:28:48 from the Paris Olympics and a 1:22 improvement on Garcia's time from Rio Maior.  A leap to the top of a World Race Walking Tour Gold podium is within reach for the champion steeplechaser turned race walker The big ‘if’ is whether Lyra recovers from that 20km win just a week before this race Katarzyna Zdzieblo hopes to impress on home soil The Polish double 2022 world silver medallist was up with the leaders in 2024 for only a short time but she did offer a glimpse of former glory with third place in Dudince at 35km in March it was a minute behind Garcia finishing second but better than all other performances since those heady days in Oregon at the World Championships The supporting cast of Valeria Ortuno (Mexico) and Ayse Tekdal (Turkey) will augment a field of 17.  The event will be Yamanishi’s first race since he broke the 20km world record in February That magnificent 1:16:10 in Kobe was a fantastic return to form by the bespectacled 29-year-old.  The Japanese athlete was more than a minute ahead of second place but third on the same day was Bonfim in 1:17:37 That mark was a Brazilian record and in contrast to some who race sparingly Bonfim has already competed four times at top level in 2025 a third and a sixth – the latter a super-fast Tour Gold race in Taicang where he stopped the clock at 1:18:20.  secured in 1:19:09 when finishing behind Pintado to add to his other major championship medals suggests Yamanishi needs to be in that same February record-breaking form or an injury for anyone else to break into the top two Kazuki Takahashi is the race walker to spring one He was only 13th as his compatriot Yamanishi broke the world record but a 1:18:23 finish to go with a 2:25:45 35km at Nomi in March is still good enough for fourth in the world rankings at 35km Completing a trio of top highly dangerous scenes” when police officers were attacked before the match That riotous night at Villa Park has guaranteed a heavy police presence at Stamford Bridge this evening The allocation of tickets given to visiting fans has been reduced to just over 1,000 (half of what they might ordinarily expect as an away club) following advice from the local Safety Advisory Group (SAG) during the build-up Chances are not being taken in west London Further disorder — and more UEFA fines — came in the Conference League trips to Swedish club Djurgardens and Backa Topola of Serbia before Christmas Last year, there was also another fiery night away to Dutch side AZ. Local authorities described “intense violence directed at stewards and police officers” after visiting fans attempted to storm an entrance gate. Two Legia players — Radovan Pankov and Josue Pesqueira — were taken off the team bus and arrested accused of assaulting a steward in the aftermath of the storm Poland’s prime minister called for “urgent diplomatic action” lamenting an “absolute scandal” in the Netherlands The events of those trips to AZ and Villa collectively ensured the club’s fans were banned from following their team in six European away games this season and the last “This kind of behaviour should not be tolerated at UEFA competition matches,” said the governing body in a report from December 2023 Legia’s charge sheet is long and lengthening provocative messaging and blocking passageways have all been ticked off in the last 18 months It has become a running battle with UEFA’s disciplinary arm who sampled the hostilities first-hand in Poland last week This is the club that once displayed a giant tifo depicting a cartoon pig counting Legia’s money against the backdrop of UEFA’s logo in 2017 (pictured top) Beneath it read: “And the 35,000 fine goes to…” ahead of a Champions League qualifier commemorating the 73rd anniversary of the Warsaw uprising and showing a soldier holding a gun to a small boy’s head Powerful message from Legia Warsaw fans #PowstanieWarszawskie pic.twitter.com/UEKB8y16pk — Cantona’s Trawler (@cantonastrawler) August 2, 2017 ethics and disciplinary body has Legia on speed dial it instructed the Polish club to play Real Madrid behind closed doors in the Champions League following after crowd disturbances and racist chanting during a humiliating 6-0 loss at home to Borussia Dortmund for the visit of Molde last season came after unrest during the visit of AZ was punished by UEFA Delegates from the governing body arrived two hours before kick-off to find a 40-metre by six-metre banner hanging from the upper tier of the Zyleta: “This time you won with a gigantic banner measuring 40 metres by 30 metres unfurled in the stand opposite to the TV cameras: “Surprise below a Lego figure wearing a Legia logo and sunglasses UEFA’s subsequent disciplinary case was damning “The general conclusion is that the Legia club has no control over the Ultras fans Legia Ultras control the entire stadium regarding their choreography and have the freedom to set up planned activities,” it read carry great influence among the club’s fanbase They are routinely credited with the tifo displays which have become part of European football’s subculture and include pyrotechnics Over 100 red flares were lit ahead of Real Betis’ visit in October with smoke causing a five-minute delay to kick-off Disorder is generally considered rare at games in the Ekstraklasa (Poland’s top division) but European fixtures have become a stage to build recognition for the club’s Ultras have become a moment to plant partisan flags A Europa League tie away to Leicester City was marred by visiting supporters clashing with police inside the King Power Stadium in November 2021 At that match, seven people were arrested after 12 police officers were left injured, when tarpaulin segregating fans was trampled and pulled back. One long-serving police officer told The Athletic it had been the worst disorder he had witnessed at a football match angered by not receiving what they considered their full quota of 1,703 tickets initially agreed with Villa fought police who had chosen to keep a large body of visiting fans in a bus parking site adjacent to the stadium ahead of kick-off A security officer working for UEFA, whose disciplinary report of the night’s events ran to 24 pages said it was “a real war zone” for 40 minutes with fences and a lighting pole brought down One police officer suffered burns when a lit flare was pushed into his chest The decision was soon made to deny all Legia fans entry to Villa Park an hour before kick-off and instead they were corralled back to Birmingham’s city centre A total of 44 Legia fans were later ejected from home sections of the stadium once their team had equalised in what would turn out to be a 2-1 loss for the Polish side Legia’s security officer argued to UEFA that the violence had not been carried out by fans travelling from Poland claiming the “leaders of the hardcore groups took their groups back to the city centre before the fighting started” The inference was that UK-based Polish citizens had sparked the unrest with 36 of the 46 fans arrested on the night giving Polish addresses to police “The acts of damage constitute a conduct which is not acceptable in football,” concluded UEFA who added they could not “accept such episodes of blind vandalism which can only be described as blatant hooliganism” A five-game ban on away fans attending matches was the result with Legia fans still congregating to watch a qualifier away to Welsh minnows Caernarfon from a nearby caravan park in August This has since become the furthest Legia have progressed in a European competition for almost three decades but an underwhelming domestic campaign leaves them likely needing to win the Polish Cup final next month if they are to extend their long-running battles with UEFA next season Chelsea’s visit to Warsaw last week passed without notable incident at the Polish Army Stadium beyond a tifo that depicted a lion being slayed by a knife (pictured above) whose own allocation had been capped at 742 due to safety concerns were told to avoid wearing club colours and travel to the stadium in designated buses have their own plans for what will be a high-risk fixture “We want everyone to come and enjoy themselves but we will act decisively to deal with anyone intent on causing trouble,” a Met spokesperson said in a statement to The Athletic “We have increased the policing presence for Chelsea’s home match against Legia Warsaw this Thursday to ensure it takes place in a safe and secure environment This decision was taken following a careful assessment of information and intelligence “The MPS (Metropolitan Police Service) works with the local Safety Advisory Group (SAG) The SAG advised that Legia Warsaw should receive a reduced ticket allocation We will continue to work with the club and our local partners to ensure the safety of those attending the match and those in the wider community.” (Top photo: A banner from 2017;
