The single-car crash occurred around 9:00 a.m
local time in the northwest region of Poland
Auto Swiat reports the conditions at the time of the crash were wet
with rain falling and temperatures close to the freezing point
Details of exactly what happened aren't available; the Wyrzysk Volunteer Fire Department shared images of the aftermath and a description of the scene in a Facebook post
The post simply states the driver lost control of the car on the Wyrzyska bypass on the S10 highway
The photos show extensive damage to the front of the 488
with pretty much the entire front clip ripped away and shredded into pieces
The impact was also hard enough – and the car was low enough – to send it under the guardrail
and the A-pillars are bent almost as if the car flipped upside down at some point
It appears the Ferrari slid along the shoulder under the guardrail for a short distance
causing it to slice into the engine cover like a can opener
It appears there are no exterior body panels that are undamaged
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer tires are standard issue on the 488 Pista from the factory
It's unknown what tires were on this particular car when it crashed; cold temperatures generally aren't good for high-performance summer-compound tires
we're grateful for no injuries in this scary-looking crash

A Ferrari 488 Pista has been wrecked after crashing on a motorway in Poland
The incident happened near the town of Wyrzysk when the driver of the 488 Pista lost control while driving along the S10 expressway
Auto Swiat reports that the mid-engined Italian supercar speared off the side of the road and slammed head-first into a crash barrier
While an ordinary vehicle would have been brought to quick stop by this barrier
the Ferrari was so low that it actually slid under the barrier

Local fire crews and police attended the scene and fortunately
the driver was not injured despite the severity of the crash
Details about the moments leading up to the crash aren’t known but it is likely that the driver of the Ferrari was caught out by the slippery road surface and simply pressed the throttle a little too hard
spinning up the rear wheels and sending the supercar directly into the barrier
The Ferrari obviously can’t be repaired as not only has the front been destroyed and the roof caved in but both sides have been trashed
as has the rear-end following the impact with the barrier
There’s a possibility that the engine and transmission are still intact and might be salvageable but apart from that
we suspect almost every part of the car will be scrapped
As a reminder, the 488 Pista is the hardcore
track-focused variant of the 488 GTB and features a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 muscling out 710 hp at 8,000 rpm and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque at 3,000 rpm
In addition to being more powerful than the GTB
the 488 Pista weighs 91 kg (200 lbs) less thanks to the use of carbon fiber on the hood
alongside a number of other weight-saving measures

A Ferrari 488 Pista is left in pieces after sliding under a crash barrier on a motorway in Poland
The crash happened near the town of Wyrzysk when the driver lost control while driving along the S10 expressway
Reports are the mid-engined Italian supercar skidded off the side of the road and slammed head-first into a crash barrier
And while this would have stopped most cars in their tracks
the Ferrari was so low that it slid under the barrier
Local fire crews and police attended the scene and thankfully the driver was left unharmed
While we don't have the details that led to the crash
it's likely that the driver underestimated how slippery the road was
It's unlikely that the vehicle will be able to be repaired
given the severity of the damage to the front and roof of the vehicle
