service members in southwestern Poland worked alongside Polish troops and civilians to fill hundreds of sandbags this week to stem floodwaters that have ravaged the region
About 30 troops from a cluster of base camps near the town of Zagan offered the Polish military a helping hand as the area braced for rising waters
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Thursday
but American personnel remained ready to return to the town to help its 25,000 residents with recovery
“Emergency relief is kind of in our DNA,” said Staff Sgt
Joshua Kershner from the Virginia National Guard’s 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion
we help our communities all the time with their hurricane relief.”
The Virginia Beach-based battalion arrived at Camp Karliki near Zagan in March as part of a constant rotation of American forces bolstering security in Europe
Parts of Poland and other countries in Central Europe became inundated this week as a slow-moving storm dumped up to five times the average September rainfall in four days
swelling rivers and overwhelming flood barriers
then grabbed onto some trees before being helped ashore by a rescue boat
floodwaters submerged bridges and some low-lying parts of the town but spared the nearby camps where hundreds of American troops are stationed
Kershner said a resident told him the flooding was the worst the town had seen in nearly 20 years
The Polish Defense Ministry mobilized 10,000 soldiers to help combat the widespread floods
also a member of the Virginia National Guard
said the Polish military put out a call for additional help Wednesday and within two hours American troops were standing with shovels in hand beside a giant mound of sand
they filled sandbag after sandbag and loaded them onto flatbed trucks headed for other parts of town or farther away
Evers said American service members regularly engage with the nearby Polish 11th Armored Cavalry Division as well as civilians
and they thought nothing of volunteering their time
“It was really like any other day,” he said
Several soldiers volunteered on Thursday to do some more work
Poland has also become a significant force in the U.S.-led NATO alliance since the 2022 full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine
Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski said the teamwork of American and Polish troops in Zagan this week highlighted the deepening bond between the two countries
“When we say we stand shoulder to shoulder with Poland
“This is the true picture of solidarity and friendship between our people.”

Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs

I think it's all delayed until the 23rd now.

Shadow Gambit: Cursed Crew got a 9 from me back in August
and then we found out Mimimi Games was shutting down after putting out some final content
keeping up the quality of the soon-to-be shuttered studio with a brilliant send-off for all of their fans
The DLCs are titled Zagan’s Ritual and Yuki’s Wish
A free update is hitting alongside both that offers up 14 new treasure hunt missions for free to anyone who owns the main game
and this Shadow Tactics character fits in with the crew perfectly
Both DLCs become available once you’ve reached Act 2 of the game and have your three initial characters
Playing on a Steam Beta build we were provided with an endgame save file and I immediately went to the barrel on the deck of the Red Marley with the dragon symbol on top of it
she can lure enemies into a deadly hail of arrows or stab ‘em up real good from behind
Her six missions are centered around a new area called the Dragon’s Dream
Bringing an Eastern flavor it’s a Japanese-themed locale full of magic
There are six missions total in Yuki’s wish though you cannot access the final two unless you’ve unlocked the Captain’s Mirror in the main campaign
Guards ignore the wood and it makes for some really easy eliminations when you don’t have to worry about a corpse
Yuki and Kuma (the Tanuki) fit into the crew perfectly
He lives on an Adam’s family-style mansion island and has a horrifying skillset
Whereas Yuki is focused on hiding and using traps
Zagan is a brute who goes face-to-face with his enemies
A former member of the Inquisition his main attack doesn’t kill
instead it fills his victim with mad visions and heals him
Other moves include a long-range kill that will stun enemies for five seconds before taking them out
can trigger passively or be activated directly
Any time an enemy spots Zagan they are instantly stunned for five seconds
It is awesome to use with others as he runs up to one person
I’d have Yuki or another member take out anyone around them and the combos available continued the game’s tough but satisfying gameplay loop
with six main story missions the final two of which you can’t access without the Captain’s Mirror
Whereas Yuki’s story was brighter in tone and color palette
Zagan’s is dark with lots of black & white horror throughout
They’ve left us with a real treat as both of these DLCs are chock full of incredible content
and they mix into the existing campaign well
no YT notification for this one because of a bug with a live stream
We already don’t have many of these games on consoles

Not one but two DLC on the same day, as the swansong to the great Mimimi Games? That’s the definition of bittersweet. Shadow Gambit The Cursed Crew was already their greatest game and scored impeccably here at Finger Guns
but now we have new reasons to go back and sample it all over again – Yuki’s Wish and Zagan’s Ritual DLC packs
I’m going to handle each DLC separately so if you are looking to learn about Yuki’s Wish follow the link
With Yuki’s wish being a callback to Shadow Tactics
a small part of me hoped that Zagan’s Ritual
would turn out to be a Desperados III callback
presumably because those characters are not Mimimi’s to do with as they will
Zagan’s Ritual continues and expands on the story of Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew
introducing in Zagan a fallen apostate Prognosticar
Zagan doesn’t much care for his former comrades
and would rather throw in with the Red Marley and crew to further his strange aims
Zagan comes with a set of powers not wholly removed from the Prognosticars you face at the climaxes of a fair number of levels
He can rend soul energy from those he kills
But its the other two powers that are most interesting
he can reach out with soul energy through walls to kill or hold enemy inquisition blind and hostage
which is why his general kills replenish it
His last is a passive attack that triggers when he’s sighted in an enemy viewcone – the enemy is hit with soul energy and Zagan gets a few seconds to reach them and finish the job
Another interesting aspect of his Inquisition abilities is his soul powers leave guards where they are
this seems a normal and unremarkable state for the Inquisition and other guards don’t bat an eyelid – in fact they seem quite happy their colleagues are attuning the Maiden’s Fire
he’s quite capable of being a one-man army
unless the odds and viewcones really stack up
We don’t want too many spoilers for a seven or so hour DLC now
Zagan reaches out to the Red Marley for help in his dark experiments
promising to share his findings and powers along the way
He has his own island within the Timeless Isles
which is a huge maze-like mansion that he has populated with undead skeletons
He and the crew leave when the Inquisition show up to arrest their erstwhile ex-colleague and take a trip around multiple islands you’ll know from the base games
and unwilling victims needed for his great experiment
Like with Yuki’s Wish you’ll revisit Zagan’s island a number of times in the handful of missions
All the while Zagan’s banter and arrogance end up revealing much about the origins of the Inquisition’s Mainden’s Fire powers and answering a few questions left open in the base game
This one feels more like a continuation of the game than Yuki’s Wish does
because it sticks to the narrative and expands it
I’ll say no more on the story except that it does fall into the same trap as Yuki’s in that it revolves around revisiting existing islands a fair bit
and probably could have been a little shorter
It’s a strange and derelict mansion edifice
half fallen into the sea and covered in mazelike ladders
but where this one excels in its level design gameplay-wise
providing many unique areas and situations
it doesn’t hold a candle to how beautiful Dragon’s Dream is
and there were multiple points moving in on the Inquisition that have commandeered his island
where I tore my hair out trying to find that tiny chink in overlapping viewcones
or had to make my way deep into enemy territory to find that one guard who wasn’t overlooked to start the chain reaction of clearing the map
Zagan’s Ritual is more the continuation of the base game
However I didn’t find Zagan to be sympathetic in any way
so he isn’t as compelling a character as the other cursed crew all became
It was different using the soul powers of the enemy
but I generally found he had less utility and took too long to commit to kills
I rated the original game a full 10/10 as I could think of little I hadn’t enjoyed
and certainly nothing worth docking points over
However in a shorter six to seven hour dive
spending a large amount of time with an unlikable character and in more dark
I found myself not enjoying this as much as the base game
It’s still the same deftly put-together stealth tactics glory
More Shadow Gambit is more than enough reason to dive back in
but Zagan’s Ritual expands the base game’s story with a substantial seven+ hours of extra content and answers a number of questions from the original game
playing as one of the bad guys makes it a lot of fun

Summer’s here early with this list of indie games bringing the heat
Here are 15 to be excited about this month:
This work, Polish, US Soldiers remember Battle of Zagan, liberation of POW camp, by SGT Hubert Delany, identified by DVIDS, must comply with the restrictions shown on https://www.dvidshub.net/about/copyright
Nephy and Zagan finally confessed their feelings to each other
but neither have any idea of where to go from here
As we enter into the fifth volume of An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How To Love Your Elf Bride
Zagan is informed of the mysterious concept of a ‘date’ and investigates what it means to be in a relationship
Will he and Nephy ever have a normal relationship
Having been told about the fact that couples usually go on dates
Zagan decides to go into town on a research trip
While there he stumbles across a young therianthrope called Kuroka
having been dispatched as a new priest to help Chastille
A chimera is on the loose and Chastille has her hands full trying to find it before it can bring harm to the town
the chimera belongs to Bifrons who has sent it to hunt down Nephteros
On the brink of death after a week of running from the chimera
Nephteros is sure she’s about to meet her end
Nephteros pleads with Chastille to keep quiet about her situation
Together the two vow to bring down the powerful enemy without Zagan’s help
When I reviewed the previous volume of An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride I complained about how large the cast of the series has become
Volume 5 has the good sense to focus on a much smaller selection and that works well for it
While the start of the book is about Zagan
he is pushed aside to give Nephteros and Chastille the spotlight
The nice thing about Chastille taking the lead role is that we get to see a new side to her
When she’s with Nephy or Zagan she’s nervous
taking Nephteros away from Zagan and Nephy has her open up and show a more vulnerable and stubborn side to her personality
these developments prove to me that author Fuminori Teshima is capable of writing strong female characters
It’s not that the girls were particularly poorly written before
but they were always being saved by Zagan and it’s refreshing to find they don’t need that
They can look after themselves perfectly well should the situation call for it
This volume acts as a strong foundation for future instalments and I’m really glad Teshima took the time to shift focus to Chastille now
It makes for a refreshing read in a series that I thought only two volumes ago was beginning to lose its way
An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride Volume 5 comes to the West once more thanks to J-Novel Club and continues to be translated by Hikoki
The translation for this volume was notably less problematic in the pre-pub releases than usual
is problem-free and includes some wonderful colour illustrations at the beginning
this volume is the first not to depict Zagan and Nephy on the cover – instead swapping them out for Chastille and Nephteros in a striking image of them back-to-back
Overall An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride Volume 5 is a compelling entry in the romantic fantasy series
Offering a fresh perspective on some of our favourite characters
means this volume delivers a unique story the likes of which I hope we see more of in future
Demelza can generally be found exploring some kind of fantasy world and chasing her dreams of being a hero
An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride offers a heartwarming and outright adorable story
The initial set-up might put people off but the series is determined to make Zagan and Nephy’s relationship pure rather than something born of master and servant
Those of you in the market for a new fantasy romance need look no further than here
After reading the second volume of Elf Bride
I found myself just as committed to this fluffy romance tale as I was with the first volume
Putting the oddities of Nephy’s rapidly developed personality aside
I had a lot of fun reading about Nephy and Zagan acting as parents while slowly growing closer to one another
With a shift in structure and some solid character development
An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride Volume 4 successfully brings me back onboard
While this volume of An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride has interesting development in story for one of its main cast – it also retreads on an earlier plot device which takes away from the book
Volume 7 of An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride gives us the chance to take a break and catch our breath as the cast enjoy some time at the beach
It’s not the best book in the series but it’s still a great deal of fun

This volume once again comes to the West thanks to publisher J-Novel Club
The series continues to be translated by Hikoki and although there were once again numerous grammatical issues throughout the pre-pub releases
the finished eBook appears to be problem-free
there are a number of colour pages included at the beginning
The afterword promises that Volume 5 will revolve around Chastille
which should offer something different to the stories we’ve had so far – that’s if you don’t die from the cuteness overload of this volume first
An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride Volume 5 is a compelling entry in this romantic fantasy series
Offering a fresh perspective on some of our favourite characters thanks to a shift in focus means this volume delivers a unique story the likes of which I hope we see more of in future
As the summer came to a close I decided to check out a romantic fantasy series
An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride
This title is slightly different from publisher J-Novel Clubs’ usual offerings and I was pleased with what I found
Today I’m here to revisit the series with the release of Volume 2
In this volume Zagan and Nephy continue to peacefully live out their day-to-day lives in Zagan’s castle – that is
until an unruly trespasser named Valefor appears during one of Zagan’s relished meal times
Zagan manages to defeat the trespasser by knocking them out but soon discovers that they’re actually just a young girl
It seems that Chastille’s decision to not kill Zagan has earned her the ire of the most dreadful Archangel
who feels she no longer deserves her sacred sword and appears to be after her (and Zagan’s) lives
Just what is an Archdemon meant to do with such a dysfunctional collection of people
What I really enjoyed about this volume of Elf Bride was the (mostly) quiet everyday lives of the characters
Zagan and Nephy’s relationship is advancing slowly and although Zagan still has no idea how to share his feelings with her
you can really tell that the two love and respect each other
Thanks to Zagan managing to remove the slave collar on Nephy toward the end of the previous volume (despite Nephy requesting to wear it afterwards)
this feeling is only heightened thanks to being able to consider them as equals rather than having Nephy’s former slave status hanging over things
Author Fuminori Teshima does a good job of conveying the awkward nature of Zagan and his relationships
as well as the feelings parents (adoptive or otherwise) hold toward their children
My only criticism is that Nephy has suddenly become a lot more confident between this book and Volume 1
which comes across as a somewhat jarring jump
It’s not a bad thing for Nephy as a character
and she’s much more likable when she’s got an air of confidence about her
I’d rather have seen this change develop myself instead of it happening between volumes
illustrator COMTA has once again done a great job of capturing the cute and loving relationships our characters share
Valefor also sports a cutesy design with a great attention to detail in her clothing
This release comes to English thanks to J-Novel Club and translation has once again been handled by Hikoki
While the typos that were present during the pre-pub releases appear to have been fixed for the ebook
there are awkward sentences and improper uses of grammar here and there
It doesn’t take away from the story too much
but you’ll undoubtedly notice them when you come across them nevertheless
It’s also worth noting that this ebook release includes colour illustrations which
I’ve found myself just as committed to this fluffy romance tale as I was with the first volume
If you enjoyed the first volume of Elf Bride then this one certainly won’t let you down

While both characters bring something new to the table
they don’t innovate enough to necessarily make the game feel fresh
Surprising news to all who adore Mimimi Games’ work: the studio is closing down. I had initially thought Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew’s full release was the finale
graced with two DLCs: Yuki’s Wish and Zagan’s Ritual
the DLC are sure to sate those who want more at a minimum
If the name “Yuki” sounds familiar, it should. Yuki’s a core character from Mimimi’s breakout game, Shadow Tactics
The two universes collide as Yuki joins the undead crew in search of a dragon MacGuffin that will grant her one wish after completing a ritual
grabbing a good and getting said wish is a little more involved
we get to enjoy her wonderful voice acting and cheeky demeanor as she collaborates with Afia and the Red Marley
He is a prognosticator turncoat whose sole obsession is to finish his research by any means necessary; in the context of Shadow Gambit
that means changing allegiances because this is the most effective means to get what he needs to fulfill his scientific endeavors
While getting a chance to play as a baddie is nothing new in the world of gaming
I always enjoy getting a taste of the enemy’s abilities
they are designed and flow almost identically; as I mentioned earlier
Both islands are competently realized in a way that you’d expect from Mimimi’s work historically
and while most of the new missions take place on the old islands
revisiting them with new characters and their powers is refreshing
especially if it’s been a while since you’ve played
Within the confines of the game’s core design
Yuki and Zagan play using essentially the same ruleset
Yuki can lure enemies away into a wire trap
while Zagan can use his life force to execute enemies long range through walls and hold enemies in place indefinitely for his crewmates
Yuki’s outstanding passive skill is that enemies she kills turn into logs
so players never have to worry about hiding bodies
Zagan’s fun because he breaks so many rules without having to worry about walls
The one downside to Zagan is that he uses his health for long-range kills but can replenish it with a delayed melee kill
If all you want is more well-designed stealth tactics gameplay
but if you found Mimimi’s formula growing a bit stale
this Shadow Gambit DLC may put you on the fence
I will say that taking a few months’ break from the game rekindled my enjoyment
but I was ready to move on once again by the end of the DLC
don’t expect a grand reunion with the crew
Afia and the Red Marley do the bulk of the talking with our new crewmates
which Shadow Gambit boasted in the main story
Whether or not you dive right into the two DLCs is a matter of how much you loved the core game
If you were hungry for more abilities for your toolkit so that you can go after the remaining achievements
I wish the formula was turned on its head a bit
and their games will remain close to my heart as they sail into the night
Here’s to hoping for a dramatic return sooner rather than later after a much-deserved rest
By-the-book DLCs that add more of what fans already love

Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew marks the end of an era
as the final game from Mimimi Games that mixes a fun pirate story with the culmination of the studio’s experience in crafting deep tactical gameplay
given the suddenness of the decision to shut down the studio
they’re able to say farewell to their fans with two pieces of substantial DLC
The two DLCs are called Yuki’s Wish and Zagan’s Ritual
relating to the two new characters that star within
Both DLCs are individually priced at $14.99
but bring a good chunk of new gameplay and missions
Yuki’s playstyle is based on setting traps for enemies
One trap is the Tripwire that will instantly kill the first enemy that walks into it
except for Prognosticars since they can counter any one on one attack
Kuma then has a skill called Tanuki Parade that lures enemies towards him
Using this in conjunction with Yuki’s skills allows the pair to take down enemies including Kindred with relative ease
Yuki’s mission revolves around an island that keeps moving
and legend has it as dragon sleeps below its waves
ready to grant a wish to those who complete its challenge
The new island is Dragon’s Dream and just like the other islands
The Inquisition already has a foothold there
so you have the challenge of beating them again
you will be tasked with hopping around islands to complete the objectives
In the case of Yuki’s Wish you need to find some statues and get them back to Dragon’s Dream
but there is also a moment where you are tasked to wipe out a whole garrison
when Yuki takes out an enemy they turn into a block of wood so you don’t have to worry about hiding bodies
adding another new character with a background you would not expect
member of the Inquisition and usually a high value target
and sent himself to the side of the undead
That has not stopped him from experimenting in this life
and he reaches out to the crew of the Red Marley
Part of the reason is help with experiments
while the other is maybe help with the fight against the Inquisition – the price Zagan has paid by becoming a part of the Undead is that he has lost the protection his position once afforded him
Zagan’s powers are used to take enemies out too
but do make him vulnerable at times as well
His powers include the Catatonic Grip which immobilises guards
Another power is Dark Excision and this holds an enemy then kills them after a short time
Using this power costs Zagan a health point
Hedron of Constriction lets Zagan hold enemies in place for an unlimited time and unnoticed
but while this move is active Zagan cannot move
Both DLCs are very good additions to Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew
but of the two I feel that Yuki’s Wish just edges it entertainment and narrative
Yuki and Kuma are a great pairing and fit into the overall crew well
Zagan is an interesting character to use too as he is not quite like any other character
Alongside the paid content is a final update that adds Treasure Hunts as an endgame skill-testing challenge
There’s 14 distinct new Treasure Hunt missions
each with different twists and objectives to challenge yourself against

If I mention light novel distributor J-Novel Club, the first thing that’ll likely come to mind is their impressive collection of isekai titles. However, recently the company have broken out of the genre and expanded into other territories, one example of which being the fantasy romance series An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride (or Elf Bride as we’ll be referring to it going forward). Today I’m here to review the first volume.
Our story follows the powerful sorcerer Zagan. Feared by the masses for his foul mouth and brutal actions towards those who trespass in his domain, Zagan spends his days isolated from the world and studying sorcery. One day he’s invited to a dark auction by his only friend, Barbatos, and there he finds an elven slave girl being auctioned off. It’s love at first sight for Zagan, who wishes for the girl, Nephy, to become his bride.
Pouring his entire fortune into buying her, Zagan takes Nephy home – but Nephy is convinced that Zagan purchased her with the intention of killing her in some kind of experiment! Zagan isn’t used to being around people and so struggles to convey his feelings to Nephy, which makes her even more certain that her end is near. Muddling through his thoughts, Zagan must learn how to put the girl’s mind at rest and communicate the love in his heart!
Of course, the core focus of Elf Bride is the romance between Nephy and Zagan. This progresses slowly and doesn’t truly develop until close to the end of the first volume (especially given just how socially awkward Zagan is), but I think given the set-up, this was the right move. Had Zagan been too forward I worry that it would have read like Nephy was forced into falling for him, but instead they become closer much more naturally.
Overall Elf Bride offers a heartwarming and outright adorable story. The initial set-up might put people off but the series is determined to make Zagan and Nephy’s relationship pure rather than something born of master and servant. Those of you in the market for a new fantasy romance need look no further than here. I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes next.
When she's not watching anime, reading manga or reviewing, Demelza can generally be found exploring some kind of fantasy world and chasing her dreams of being a hero.
After reading the second volume of Elf Bride, I found myself just as committed to this fluffy romance tale as I was with the first volume. Putting the oddities of Nephy’s rapidly developed personality aside, I had a lot of fun reading about Nephy and Zagan acting as parents while slowly growing closer to one another.

With a shift in structure and some solid character development, An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride Volume 4 successfully brings me back onboard.
An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride Volume 5 is a compelling entry in this romantic fantasy series. Offering a fresh perspective on some of our favourite characters thanks to a shift in focus means this volume delivers a unique story the likes of which I hope we see more of in future.
Volume 7 of An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride gives us the chance to take a break and catch our breath as the cast enjoy some time at the beach. It’s not the best book in the series but it’s still a great deal of fun, provided you like the cast.

ZAGAN, Poland — Soldiers from 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, participated in a display of U.S. Army equipment at the Museum of Prisoner of War Camps, Zagan, Poland, Oct. 21.
The museum invited the unit to participate in order to support the community's education of the Stalag Luft III Prisoner Camp, World War II and Polish- American relations.
The 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, is currently in Europe to support Atlantic Resolve. Atlantic Resolve is a U.S. endeavor to fulfill NATO commitments by rotating U.S. -based units throughout the European theater and training with NATO Allies and partners.
Outside the museum, the unit displayed a M113 Armored Personnel Carrier, M1 Abrams tank and M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Also in the display were a Polish Medium Tank T-34/85 and a Polish BA-64 light armored car with detachable 45 mm anti-tank gun model 1937.
Volunteers from the Historical Association Big Red One Poland were present at the display, wearing reproductive clothing from the unit appropriate for the WWII period.
The association aims to preserve the memory, history and legacy of the Fighting First, the famous Big Red One, said Michal Kowalski, member of the association. The association presents the history of the unit to the public, searches to uncover and preserve Polish-American relations and shares stories of Soldiers and prisoners.
"For me, it's a matter of past years because during communist times, people don't know anything about Polish-American cooperation during these conflicts like World War II and World War I," Kowalski said. "Now, these are times we can freely speak about it, we can do research about it.”
The association has been active for 13 years, with its members visiting various historical locations like Normandy in France, Aachen in Germany and other sites in Belgium, Czechoslovakia and Italy. The volunteers sometimes even portray World War II era Big Red One Soldiers for small t.v. or movie productions.
The participation of the 1st Infantry Division Soldiers was welcomed with joy.
"I'm very satisfied that finally, we have an opportunity to get an interaction with real Big Red One Soldiers," Kowalski said. "I find it very educating and I'm proud, also, that I can meet Soldiers of the division which we are partial to."
Soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division surprised by the association's presence in the event, relayed Lt. Col. John Donlin, battalion commander, 1st Battalion, 63rd Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
Members of the association were impressively knowledgeable about the unit's history and activity, he said. It's exciting and encouraging to see how much the Polish people acknowledge and understand what the American military has done in the past.
The museum managed to educate the public about a conflicting time in world history and make those connections relevant to recent times.
"This really ties into our history of an alliance and support of the Polish people and the Polish military," Donlin commented. "It really shows that true alliance and partnership we've had, going back to our revolution. It displays that to the community as well, and ties those bonds even tighter."

He has been covering entertainment professionally for more than 10 years.Mimimi Games didn’t set out to make a trilogy of stealth strategy games
But once the studio shut its doors in December
after the release of its final DLC pack and content update for Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew
a trilogy of stealth strategy games is the prevailing legacy it left behind
I think we would have tried to pivot — to try to do something else,” Moritz Wagner
it was still a niche project inspired by a niche series
It was enough to attract the attention of THQ Nordic, though. The publisher had acquired the rights to the Desperados series, Spellbound Entertainment’s early-aughts stealth games, and gave Mimimi the nod to make Desperados 3. The series’ cachet and the studio’s talent combined for yet another stellar reception (along with more players, judging by Steam charts)
clearing the way for Mimimi to work on a brand-new IP: this year’s Shadow Gambit
a stealth strategy game about undead pirates with supernatural abilities
the goal was to create the old sort of Commandos vibes and put a new setting on it
of course — one that makes more sense,” Wagner said
It was basically just ‘more and better.’ But it was the same core idea
we wanted to put a big emphasis on changing the structure: character choice
We wanted to push the idea that our games are multi-solution things.”
As opposed to the linear nature of Shadow Tactics and Desperados 3
which funnel you through discrete missions with preset characters
Shadow Gambit gives you free rein to travel throughout the archipelago (aboard a sentient ghost ship that grants you the ability to “reload memories” with the F5 key
You can also revive your undead crew members in any order you choose; aside from a few missions that require the ship’s navigator and principal protagonist Afia to be present
you can also mix and match your squad for different synergies on each outing
Shadow Gambit is, by far, the biggest leap in Mimimi’s design evolution to date. My colleague Alice Newcome-Beill called it a “surprising blend of intelligent mechanics and creative level design.” It earned the No. 18 spot on Polygon’s top 50 games of 2023
and one of the best games I’ve played in years
Mimimi couldn’t escape the fact that it was making brilliant games in a niche genre
“After the release of Shadow Gambit we decided it was the right time to prioritize our well-being and to pull the brakes instead of signing up for another multi-year production cycle.”
For Wagner, the burnout confirmed a nagging suspicion: Stealth games, however well made, don’t have a big enough audience to be sustainable. Mimimi changed the “real-time tactics” Steam genre label to “stealth strategy” after Desperados 3 (in a bid to better describe Mimimi’s kind of game, as outlined in another blog post)
but the developer couldn’t escape the fact that it was making brilliant games in a niche genre
“It’s like, Ahh! I want to get that recognition,” Wagner said. “I want people to see what we’re doing, and enjoy it. And it just doesn’t happen for a reason that’s completely out of my control. It’s just baked into the fact that it’s this kind of game, and there’s nothing we can do about it.
“We’ve been scraping very hard at the ceiling of our genre. One of the biggest goals with Shadow Gambit was to expand the audience. But we’ve been working within two niches, basically. There’s a lot of positivity, a lot of hype in a smaller group — the people who played our games — and that is great to see. I’m grateful for that. But of course you want more.”
Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, in my mind, has become several things. It’s a bittersweet goodbye from one of my favorite studios of all time. It’s as compelling a concoction of level, character, and mission design as I’ve seen since, well… Desperados 3. And it’s a staunch reminder that genre labels do matter — both for what they promise, but also what they might conceal.

When I reviewed volume 5 of An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride
I praised it for delivering a unique story – the likes of which the series hadn’t yet offered
Now we’re at volume 6 and I’m hoping what I loved form volume 5 has continued
As we reunite with our cast the day for Zagan and Nephy’s first date is drawing closer
but when adopted daughter Foll falls out with her parents
Upset that Zagan won’t teach her any powerful magic until she’s older
Foll seeks out magic to allow her to grow bigger
Zagan and Nephy worry about the consequences of Foll dabbling in such complicated magic without their supervision
so Zagan reluctantly agrees to help Foll with the spell
while performing the ritual something goes wrong and while Foll grows bigger Zagan finds that he shrinks in size
Zagan must find a way to put things right before he’s stuck this way
If this synopsis sounds familiar to you then don’t worry you’re not going crazy
This volume is quite similar to the events of volume 4
Zagan and Nephy go through similar thought processes to last time (just in reverse)
Nephy wants to protect Zagan from harm and also takes the chance to dote on his now
this odd situation strengthens their relationship quite a bit
but it does sadly put a dent in Zagan’s plans for a date
Foll has to come to terms with the fact that power comes at a cost and having cheated her way into becoming bigger
she may not end up with the desired results
When she learns that Zagan may be unable to reverse the spell she’s left devastated about her thoughtless actions
Zagan being a child means Foll starts to see him in a new light and realises he’s only ever done what’s best for her
His unwillingness to teach her powerful magic wasn’t born out of distrust
but a wish for her to live a peaceful childhood first
I find myself conflicted about the events of this volume
we get some great character development for Foll
a character who has largely been left to their own devices since their introduction in volume 2 – on the other hand
I struggled to invest in the story with it being so similar to volume 4
this time we’re back to ‘monster of the week’ and reusing old content which just didn’t grip me in the same way
the more obvious it is that a large portion of the stories it tells are all the same – and that takes all the excitement away
It’s predictable and difficult to justify sticking with unless you deeply care about Zagan and Nephy
This is only made worse by the fact author Fuminori Teshima is capable of so much more with their writing
This volume of An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride once more comes to English thanks to publisher J-Novel Club
As always the volume has been translated by Hikoki and while the pre-pubs had a few issues
The colour illustrations (drawn by COMTA) this time around are utterly adorable and a must see for fans of Zagan and Nephy
Overall this volume of An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride is a disappointment
the retreading of volume 4’s plot was unneeded and sucks out a lot of the enjoyment out of the book

Poland (AP) — American soldiers rolled into Poland on Thursday
fulfilling a dream some Poles have had since the fall of communism in 1989 to have U.S
troops on their soil as a deterrent against Russia
Some people waved and held up American flags as U.S
troops in tanks and other vehicles crossed into southwestern Poland from Germany and headed toward the town of Zagan
Poland's prime minister and defense minister will welcome them in an official ceremony Saturday
"This is the fulfilment of a dream," said Michal Baranowski
director of the German Marshall Fund think tank in Warsaw
"And this is not just a symbolic presence but one with a real capability."
and other Western nations have carried out exercises on NATO's eastern flank in past years
but the new deployment — which includes some 3,500 U.S
troops — marks the first-ever continuous deployment to the region by a NATO ally
It is part of a larger commitment by President Barack Obama to protect a region that grew deeply nervous when Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 and then began backing separatist rebels in Ukraine's east
There are fears, however, that the enhanced security could eventually be undermined by the pro-Kremlin views of President-elect Donald Trump.
Poland and the Baltic states also feel threatened by Russia's recent deployment of nuclear-capable Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad
the Russian territory wedged between Poland and Lithuania
But Russia says it's the one who is threatened
"These actions threaten our interests
our security," President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday
"Especially as it concerns a third party building up its military presence near our borders
It's not even a European state."
Worries about the permanence of the new U.S
security commitments are rooted in a tragic national history in which Poland has often lost out in deals made by the great powers
Poles still feel betrayed by Obama's "reset" with Russia early on in his administration
which involved abandoning plans for a major U.S
missile defense system in Poland and replacing it with plans for a less ambitious system
presidents have thought there can be a grand bargain with Russia," said Marcin Zaborowski
"Trump has a proclivity to make deals
and Central and Eastern Europe have reason to worry about that."
Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski expressed hope this week that any new effort at reconciliation with Russia "does not happen at our expense."
The armored brigade combat team arriving in Poland hails from Fort Carson
The troops arrived last week in Germany and are gathering in Poland before units will fan out across seven countries from Estonia to Bulgaria
A headquarters unit will be stationed in Germany
After nine months they will be replaced by another unit
NATO will also deploy four battalions to its eastern flank later this year
one each to Poland and the three Baltic states
