Portuguese Hall in Arroyo Grande came alive with dances and festivities during the Folk Dance Federation's May Day in the Village event
and learned traditional folk dances from Croatian and Northern Macedonian instructors throughout the day
Sunday's celebration ended with a maypole dance to commemorate the coming of spring
said she hopes the gathering will inspire local youth
“What we're hoping to do here today is introduce folk dance to kind of a new generation of young people
and also people who just aren't familiar with it," Lang said
"It's such a beautiful way to [...] tick all the boxes.”
Sunday's event marked the last day of the annual 2025 Statewide Folk Dance Festival in Arroyo Grande
Wide receiver moves have been a major storyline for the Seahawks this offseason as they parted ways with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett before signing Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling
The Seahawks also drafted a pair of wideouts to go with the veteran additions and Jaxon Smith-Njigba
but the biggest rookie addition to the passing game likely came at a different position
Elijah Arroyo was one of the team’s two second-round picks and the former Miami Hurricane said that he sees himself as more than just a tight end
“I’m a big target,” Arroyo said
via Michael-Shawn Dugar of TheAthletic.com
Arroyo missed big chunks of time in 2022 and 2023 with knee injuries
but caught 35 passes for 590 yards and seven touchdowns while starting every game and playing with first overall pick Cam Ward last year
Repeating that production might not be in the cards
but he’ll be a big target for Sam Darnold as long as his health continues to hold up

The Seahawks are hoping Arroyo can make an immediate impact for new starting quarterback Sam Darnold
The Hurricanes standout got his first taste of NFL action at this past weekend's rookie minicamp
where he met with reporters and officially revealed his jersey number choice
coming as close to his preferred number choice as possible
"I'm a big target," Arroyo told local reporters following a rookie minicamp session
The moment was captured by The Athletic's Michael-Shawn Dugar
who photographed Arroyo donning his new No
Arroyo should immediately contend for reps at tight end alongside Noah Fant and sophomore AJ Barner
Arroyo is a mismatch nightmare for safeties and linebackers in single coverage due to route-running ability and athleticism
New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will be tasked with maximizing his potential
A unique talent that may add dynamism to the ‘Hawks offense

2025 NFL rookie minicamp takeaways: Seahawks' Jalen Milroe showing promise early on; Eagles QB battle brewing? - CBSSports.comMilroe is one of several rookies who enjoyed solid NFL camp debuts
RENTON, Wash. — The first installment of our Seattle Seahawks rookie minicamp rundown focused on third-round pick Jalen Milroe
the most interesting of the team’s 11 selections in the 2025 NFL Draft due to being the franchise’s first quarterback pick since 2018
This second iteration will touch on Milroe as well
let’s get into takeaways involving the other draft picks from Seattle’s two-day minicamp at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center
First-round pick Grey Zabel spent minicamp at left guard
Seattle knows he can play left tackle in a pinch and has the mental capacity to play center if needed
he’ll slot in next to left tackle Charles Cross
but it’s safe to assume that if any of the interior linemen want to crack the starting lineup
they’ll have to win the battle at right guard
That competition will include sixth-round pick Bryce Cabeldue
who lined up there in practice next to seventh-round pick Mason Richman at right tackle
Head coach Mike Macdonald can’t fully evaluate his rookie linemen until they’re wearing pads
but their first impression was encouraging
“We will work on the finish and all that stuff when it becomes time
but really good first step with those guys
The first reps for @GreyZabel. pic.twitter.com/AJvjkQrZAd

2. Also falling into the “as expected” category is second-round safety Nick Emmanwori playing near the line of scrimmage in practice (often beside tryout players since the rookie free-agent class didn’t include any safeties)
Emmanwori received a lot of instruction in between snaps from Macdonald
safeties coach Jeff Howard and defensive backs coach Karl Scott
Emmanwori said the talks with the head coach were mainly about alignment and “making sure I’m reading my keys
going through my progressions and making it look good out there.”
but you can see how playing near the line of scrimmage may be a good fit for Emmanwori
but he’s probably not someone Seattle wants to play in space
as general manager John Schneider said multiple times on draft weekend
but using him at the second level will probably lead to more advantageous matchups
which is a fun characteristic to work with,” Macdonald said
Emmanwori will be the first Seahawk since Russell Wilson to wear No
but his college number (7) is currently taken by veteran outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu
All the other single-digit jerseys are taken by veterans except for No
Seattle has issued jerseys previously belonging to nearly all the prominent members of the Pete Carroll-era teams
The last one left now that Wilson’s old number has a new owner is Bobby Wagner’s No
The Seahawks have just four retired jerseys in honor of former players — Steve Largent (80)
Kenny Easley (45) and Cortez Kennedy (96) — and all of them played exclusively for Seattle
though that may change as we get further removed from those Carroll-era teams
“Russell Wilson is one of my favorite quarterbacks growing up with that Legion of Boom defense,” Emmanwori said
I’m going to do what I can in this number and make it special on defense in my own way.”
showcasing the type of pass-catching ability that Seattle believed made him worthy of the 50th pick (Schneider had previously never drafted a tight end earlier than the third round)
Arroyo said he takes pride in having a wide catch radius
Seattle’s decision-makers believe he’s such a mismatch for defenders at 6-foot-5 and 254 pounds that he’s effectively another wideout
There was a play during Saturday’s practice that required Emmanwori to cover Arroyo across the field
you can see how the rookie may create issues for defenses that don’t have great athletes at inside linebacker or safety who can turn their hips and run with him
Milroe lit up when talking about throwing to his new teammate
“I threw him some nice balls today — and he went to go get that ball
Milroe and Arroyo participated in the Senior Bowl and later went on a few pre-draft visits together
they talked about how great it would be if they could team up in the NFL
The physical benefits of rostering a fullback won’t show up in these pad-less practices
but Robbie Ouzts’ pass-catching ability was on display during minicamp
He likely won’t be heavily involved in that facet of the game
but as Seattle has witnessed up close for years playing against San Francisco’s Kyle Juszczyk
a fullback with reliable hands adds another useful wrinkle to the two-back offense
And in the case of the fifth-round rookie from Alabama
it helps that he’s used to catching passes from Seattle’s rookie quarterback
“I don’t know if it’s the offense or Milroe feeding me
so I’ve just got to make the most of my opportunities,” said Ouzts
He added that his tight end background “definitely helps” when executing the receiving duties required of the fullback
“Being more of a natural at tracking the ball
that can be foreign to a lot of fullbacks,” Ouzts said

Fifth-round selections Tory Horton and Rylie Mills sat out due to knee injuries
Mills said there’s a return-to-play plan in place but did not give specifics
Horton had surgery to repair a season-ending LCL injury he suffered in October
He was able to run at the combine but is sidelined out of precaution
Macdonald did not provide a timeline for Horton to see the field
“I wouldn’t say it’s anything major,” Macdonald said
Said Horton: “I’m feeling good where I’m at right now
I’m just taking mental reps and still going game-speed mentally.”
Players drafted in the fifth round typically have a tough time making an impact as a rookie
there’s a chance he can jump to the front of the line as Seattle’s punt returner
He scored three times in college and averaged 16.3 yards per return
Neither of last year’s punt returners are on the roster
Seattle signed veteran returner Steven Sims to a one-year deal
When asked about a potential role for Horton
the first thing Macdonald mentioned was the rookie’s ability to return punts
Milroe looked comfortable throwing the ball and leading the group in both practices
though it’s too early to make much of any specific plays. Sixth-round running back Damien Martinez gave a shoutout to Milroe for “picking up the offense
coming out and making sure everybody is where they’re supposed to be and on point.”
Really takes pride in the operation,” Macdonald said
“All the fundamental things we’re going to be building on from the ground up
Milroe said he intends to do the virtual reality training used by quarterbacks such as reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels
who made the Pro Bowl and led the Commanders to the NFC title game
Macdonald said they’re still working out the details
but the goal is to see how the technology can help players at every position
“For Jalen and the quarterbacks specifically
you’re only going to get so many full-speed reps out there,” Macdonald said
How do you do things like that where you can be creative
where you can get these really great cheap reps and stack those on top of each other so when he does get his opportunities in practice

Arroyo is the first tight end drafted by the Seahawks in the first or second round since 2008
After selecting Grey Zabel in the first round and moving up to get Nick Emmanwori in the second, the Seattle Seahawks still had one more Day 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
The pick was not another offensive lineman or defensive lineman
A trade down was even considered to try to recover something after the trade-up
We will discuss all of this in this article
Elijah Arroyo, TE, RAS pic.twitter.com/hzOIxcMZns
but due to his father’s work he had to move to Mexico when he was six years old
He had the opportunity to play American Football in Mexico
where he played as a QB in his freshman year (note that he is left-handed)
he transitioned to receiver and received a lot of attention
He was a four-star prospect and was the second highest-ranked TE in Texas, behind only Ja’Tavion Sanders (who is now with the Carolina Panthers). He received offers from UConn, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M
a university where he had watched games with his father and grandfather
was injured the next two years and then returned for a fantastic season in 2024
He had 35 receptions for 590 yards and 7 touchdowns
which earned him Second Team All-ACC honors

His mentality of fighting for every snap is something incredible
Elijah Arroyo, TE, #8Fearless pic.twitter.com/JEehPlh2Mf
Not afraid to sacrifice his body in blocking
many teams had Arroyo as a top-20-25 player in the draft
The problem was the injuries the player had (we’ll talk about that later) that made some teams give up on his selection
Let’s look at John Schneider’s history of drafting TEs:
in addition to being the highest TE drafted by John
Arroyo is the highest TE drafted by Seattle since John Carlson was drafted in the second round in 2008 at 38th overall
only two other TEs have been drafted higher than Arroyo
in the first round of the 2002 Draft at 28th overall
This is the definition of the principle of impenetrability
it is undeniable that he basically occupies the same role as Noah Fant
specialized in the slot and who needs to improve in blocking
Arroyo and AJ Barner could be the team’s TE trio
especially with Fant’s cap hit of $13,410,000
Either Seattle doesn’t see it that way (which would be a mistake
to me) or the team is willing to end Fant’s time as a Seattle Seahawk
but it would still be possible to dream of a trade
Fant is a first-round pick and there are always those who like to bet on his pedigree
A good candidate would be the Jaguars. Currently the group has only: Brenton Strange, Johnny Mundt and Hunter Long. The Dolphins have Jonnu Smith
It is worth remembering that Arroyo has a history of injuries
and perhaps that is why Seattle wants to keep Noah Fant
He suffered an ACL injury in his left knee during his Sophomore season
The following year he missed 8 games again while still recovering from the same injury
In 4 years (only 2 of which he actually played) he has less than 50 receptions (46) and 753 yards
Seattle drafted two other players with injury problems
both had visits with the Seahawks during the pre-draft
the Seahawks could test them to get a true sense of the problem
no information has been released about Arroyo having visited the team in this process leading up to the Draft
Did the Seahawks invest in a guy they didn’t “test” enough
Schneider said some Seahawks coaches see Elijah Arroyo as a potential X receiver
Elijah Arroyo, TE, #8Aligned as an outside receiver wait for CB open the hips and make the cut pic.twitter.com/y9Bv0yAN0x
Arroyo definitely looks like a WR/TE hybrid and that’s how they plan to use him
He has enough speed to be a vertical threat
He waits for the vertical threat and when he opens his hips to make the deep

Elijah Arroyo lined up in the slot on 51.6% of snaps and in-line on 39.4%
He had 16.9 yards per reception in 2024 and converted the line for a gain on 71.4% of his receptions

Miami used Arroyo in several ways in blocking
even though this is not a strong point of his game

Here we have him as a receiver blocking for the screen
Put him against smaller DBs and his physicality shows

In this play we have him going up to the second level after a good block
Elijah Arroyo, TE, #8Used many times as split-zone blocker pic.twitter.com/PzGHbFqp8h
This was one of the ways he was used the most
Split-zone requires a player on the other side of the formation to come and block the DE
so we have good snaps and some very bad snaps from him in this regard

Arroyo’s problem with blocking is not a question of effort
Elijah Arroyo, TE, #8Not good tech but he is a fighter pic.twitter.com/l4pr9WV7sK
Elijah Arroyo, TE, #8Great effort but need a better tech pic.twitter.com/00InJfb0ji
He almost misses the target but his leverage and willpower to fight until the end make him win the block
Elijah Arroyo, TE, #8Not a people mover pic.twitter.com/HkV8XEGwPP
but he could be the TE2 like Juwan Johnson did on Kubiak’s Saints
I confess that Arroyo wasn’t on my first list of TE targets
I’ve always looked for blocking ability as a differentiator in prospects
the Seahawks seemed to be more interested in someone similar to Juwan Johnson (the team had interest in him in the FA); a guy who isn’t an exceptional blocker
but who can contribute in packages with two TEs
This also shows that the team is satisfied/confident with what AJ Barner can do in terms of blocking
For this pick to “earn more points” it needs to be finalized by trading Noah Fant
I have a lot more confidence in what Arroyo can do in Kubiak’s scheme than the veteran

The Seahawks added another weapon to their offense in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft
selecting University of Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo with pick No
"It feels unreal," Arroyo said on a conference call after being selected
averaged an impressive 16.9 yards per reception in his final season in Miami
catching 35 passes for 590 yards and seven touchdowns
That 2024 performance helped Arroyo earn second-team All-ACC honors in a strong final season in which he started all 13 games after being limited to 11 games in his previous two seasons due to injury
Arroyo was better known as a pass-catching tight end in college
but prides himself in being a versatile and well-rounded tight end
"I lined up everywhere throughout my college career," Arroyo said
just being able to spread out and create mismatches."
you know exactly what you're going to get with me
that's tremendous effort and just everything out of me in general
I can stretch the field; I'm basically like a receiver out there
I feel like I'm a great overall tight end."
I really improved these past couple of years
and there's still a lot more room for improvement as a far as my in-line blocking
Just learning how to help the offense any way I can."
While Arroyo is from Florida and played his college football in Miami
he didn't spend his entire childhood in the Sunshine State
Because of his father's job selling timeshares
staying for five years before moving to Frisco
"I had just started playing football before I moved down there
so that was my biggest concern as a 7-year-old moving to a different country," he said
"I asked my mom if they had a football team
"It was really the same other than being in a different language
You really learn that it's still the same sport
There's different ways to learn the game."
NFL.com Lance Zierlein's Analysis of Arroyo
Arroyo enters the evaluation process with questions to answer after a knee injury took chunks of two seasons from him
He displayed a willingness as both a point-of-attack and move blocker
but his technique and play strength will need upgrading
He's an average athlete who struggles to beat man coverage but appeared to get faster and more fluid as the 2024 season wore on
He plays with awareness in space and secures throws with sure hands in traffic
Arroyo is a move tight end whose medical and athletic testing need to check out to give him a legitimate shot at being a productive pro

Arroyo was an F tight end in offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson’s RPO-based version of the Air Raid
lining up mostly in the slot (51.6 percent of snaps) and occasionally inline (39.4 percent)
He had just 16 combined targets over his first three seasons with the Hurricanes as he battled a knee injury
leading the FBS in yards per catch among tight ends (16.9)
Arroyo gets in and out of his breaks with efficiency and speed to consistently create separation
which makes him a threat to score any time he touches the ball (71.4 percent of his catches in 2024 resulted in a first down or touchdown)
He will need to prove himself through contact in the passing game at the next level
where he won’t be given as much space to operate
Arroyo needs further development as a route runner and blocker to reach his ceiling
but he can bring an immediate vertical element to an offense with his speed
He is easy to project as an NFL starter and a weapon for which defenses must account.”
An elite athlete with terrific size and a crazy catch radius
A move tight end who should remind many in Seattle of Noah Fant
Arroyo is also a willing blocker who has enough speed to win over the top against safeties and linebackers
He also missed a ton of time in 2022 and 2023 due to an ACL injury
as Fant hasn’t lived up to his pre-draft potential
The Seahawks have Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp
3 role is open to Marquez Valdes-Scantling
Arroyo has Jonnu Smith 2024-like potential
but Arroyo could surprise and should make noise for fantasy managers in 2026
Arroyo was a big-time pass catcher in Miami
and his skills there will be important in an offense that is likely to deploy heavy personnel groupings in 2025
Seattle already has a pair of capable tight ends on the roster in Fant and 2024 fourth-round pick AJ Barner
depth is going to be important if 12 and 13 personnel packages will be more of the norm
A comparison would be the 2022 offense under Shane Waldron
Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson and used heavy personnel as much as anyone in the league
Fant turns 28 in November and is on an expiring deal
Drafting Arroyo doesn’t mean Fant won’t be on the team in 2026
but the contract situation of the current No
Barner had a good rookie season and the battle between him and Arroyo will be interesting to watch
Arroyo projects as a better pass catcher but admitted during his conference call with reporters that he still needs to develop as a blocker
is a physical blocker and obviously has experience on his side
Seattle moving Brady Russell to fullback opens the door for Arroyo to have a role in the offense as a rookie
Seattle once again could have gone a number of difference directions with its pick
Using our best available list as a guideline
Seattle could have selected guard Tate Ratledge
center Jared Wilson or cornerback Azareye’h Thomas
41 prospect in “The Beast,” so it’s not as if Seattle made what anyone considers a reach with this pick
Watching Juwan Johnson in Klint Kubiak’s offense last season showcased the importance of a pass-catching tight end
Did Seattle already have decent pass-catching tight ends
Barner and Colby Parkinson indicated that Seattle can find those types of players on Day 3
But if Arroyo is significantly better than the players Seattle has previously waited until the fourth round to grab
no one will mind using a top-50 pick to get him

the section of the road between California Street and Valley Road will be closed from April 21 to April 25
Officials say detours will be in place along the high school's surrounding streets this week
The new traffic circle project reportedly aims to enhance safety and improve traffic flow for students

That's exactly what they lost when they traded DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers
In the end, the Seahawks wound up drafting two wide receivers on Day 3. However, while they're not exactly Tavon Austin-sized, neither Tory Horton (6-foot-2, 196 pounds) nor Ricky White III (6-foot-1
184 pounds) really qualifies as that big-framed
wide catch radius kind of pass-catcher that Seattle was reportedly looking for
The Seahawks did get what they wanted, though. In the second round they used the No. 50 overall pick on Miami's Elijah Arroyo (6-foot-5, 250 pounds), one of the top-five tight ends in a deep draft class the position
Arroyo wasted little time showing off what he can do with that wide frame at rookie minicamp

Arroyo eloquently summed up what he brings to the table for Seattle

Arroyo has the chops and the size to be a legit red zone weapon for Sam Darnold as a rookie
How much playing time he actually sees in 2025 will depend on how well he picks up the little things and learns Klint Kubiak's scheme
Once he's up to speed though Arroyo should in theory become the team's long-term number one tight end

Lawsuits are underway in several states over the participation of transgender athletes in various sports
and President Donald Trump recently signed executive orders that would take away protections for people who are transgender
People across the country have been vocal on all sides of this issue
it came to a head at a recent Lucia Mar Unified School District board meeting
and anyone who knows her is going to tell you that,” said Hilary
the mother of a transgender student-athlete at Arroyo Grande High School
Hilary and Trevor’s 16-year-old daughter came out as transgender in her freshman year
The parents expressed concern for their daughter’s safety
so KSBY agreed to use only their first names in this report
“She did have a meeting with the student services director and they set up a plan and talked about what it would look like for her to come out at school
and then we sat with that for awhile and then when our daughter decided that was what she wanted to do
we sent an email and the plan was implemented
and it was a very smooth process,” Hilary explained
It’s a sport her parents say she’s loved since middle school
Her favorite ones are the relays because then she is part of a team,” Trevor said
But not everyone feels this should be allowed
At least 50 people with opinions on the matter filled the most recent school board meeting
It opened up a conversation about not only the teen’s participation in track and field
but also her ability to change in the girls' locker room and use the girls' restrooms
“I am calling you out on your current policy
A policy that makes my daughter and her female counterparts feel unsafe and unprotected by their school,” said Amy Duyst
“Adults like yourself make me and my peers feel like our own comfort is invalid
even though our privacy is and has been completely violated,” said Celeste Duyst
A spokesperson told KSBY that the district must follow both federal and state laws
California state law reads that all students should “be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities
and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity
irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.”
Parents of the transgender athlete hope other students get the chance to know their daughter before jumping to conclusions
“The kids that have gotten a chance to get to know her
her identity as a trans youth falls away and becomes a secondary issue
Her being trans is the least interesting thing about her,” Trevor said
told board members the trans athlete watched her and other young women undress
which said that no complaints were filed at the district level and any complaints at the school level are thoroughly investigated
The Seahawks wrapped up Day 2 of the NFL Draft having added safety Nick Emmanwori out of South Carolina
tight end Elijah Arroyo of Miami and Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe
Seahawks general manager and president of football operations John Schneider opened up the end of day press conference with
All three picks from Day 2 spoke with media after being drafted
the Seahawks added depth on the other side of the ball on Friday drafting Nick Emmanwori
leading the Gamecocks with 88 tackles and three tackles for loss
earned AP first-team All-America honors and was named SEC Player of the Year
SEC Defensive Player of the Year and SEC Safety of the Year by College Football Nation
It felt great when I went up there for the visit
I talked to the coaches and had a great visit
but Emmanwori saw himself being taken higher than that
"I had higher expectations for myself as far as going in the first
but God had other plans and a different path for me
but I'm going to make them all pay for that
"I was already entering the league with something on my mind," Emmanwori said
"Like a goal I had or a vision I had or a little chip
Seahawks second-round pick Nick Emmanwori spoke to media after being selected with the 35th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
The Seahawks added another pass-catcher to their arsenal
drafting Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo who caught 35 passes for 590 yards and seven touchdowns
averaging 16.9 yards per reception last season for the Hurricanes
Arroyo earned second-team All-ACC honors for his final season performance
I feel like that's where I thrive," he said
"Just being able to spread out and create mismatches."
He added that Seahawks are getting a player who is dependable
Tremendous effort and everything out of me
Seahawks second-round pick Elijah Arroyo spoke to media after being selected with the 50th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
That was the message coming out of Jalen Milroe's first conference call with Seahawks media after being drafted No
The quarterback out of Alabama was asked if he thinks he is the best quarterback in the draft and if he had a message to teams who passed on him
Milroe responded with a short but simple response that didn't need an explanation
Milroe passed for 2,844 yards and 16 touchdowns while completing 64.3 percent of his passes
And Milroe also showed an ability to use his legs
rushing for a team-leading 726 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns
And despite that message for teams who passed on him
he didn't let where he was drafted bother him
I still have to come in and prove myself and earn the trust and respect of guys in the locker room
So it wasn't a necessity to hear my name called early on or later on
It was more to hear my name called because I know that team is all on me and they saw something in me that other teams didn't
It didn't really matter when I was selected."
Although the Seahawks currently have four quarterbacks on the roster in Sam Darnold
Milroe knows what he brings will be an asset to Seattle
"There's nothing I can't do on the football field
But there's nothing I can do on the football field
pick and choose what you want on the field
it's just more knowing what I bring to the table and knowing that it's a different dynamic on the football field that I know I'm going to utilize in the NFL."

University of Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo was Schneider’s second pick in the second round
He joins a pass-catching corps that includes wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Marquez Vandes-Scantling
“Arroyo enters the evaluation process with questions to answer after a knee injury took chunks of two seasons from him
He’s an average athlete who struggles to beat man coverage but appeared to get faster and more fluid as the 2024 season wore on
“Arroyo is a move tight end whose medical and athletic testing need to check out to give him a legitimate shot at being a productive pro.”
The 6’5’, 250-pound target played in just 23 games in his first three seasons with the ‘Canes, totaling a combined 11 grabs for 163 yards and one touchdown. That all changed in 2024 for Arroyo, who snared 35 passes for 590 yards (16.9 average) and seven touchdowns in 13 contests

His high school performance earned him offers from several top programs and he chose to commit to the University of Miami
His high school performance also earned him the honor of high expectations
Elijah Arroyo's journey to the NFL is a story of being able to overcome adversity
Arroyo's early collegiate years were marred by injuries
He played in 12 games as a freshman in 2021
tallying five receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown
he appeared in five games before a season-ending injury (torn ACL)
The 2023 season saw limited action due to recovery
with Arroyo participating in six games and recording one reception for 11 yards
At this point there were concerns on if Arroyo would ever be able to reach his potential and meet the expectations he had coming out of high school
But then Arroyo finally put it all together in 2024
amassing 35 receptions for 590 yards and seven touchdowns
His performance earned him Second-Team All-ACC honors and a spot at the Reese's Senior Bowl
Unfortunately, as many stories go, Arroyo's progress has not been linear and he suffered another injury during his time at the Senior Bowl which kept him out of parts of the pre-draft process. Luckily for Arroyo
it was not as serious as what he had dealt with in the past
Leading up to the NFL Draft, many projections had Arroyo going in the 2nd round, but the injury concerns could have made him fall. Fortunately, the Seattle Seahawks selected Arroyo with the 50th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
thus giving his story an exclamation point
Arroyo's path shows growth as he overcame early setbacks to emerge as a promising NFL talent
And his story is not over yet as he has a chance to make his injury history a footnote in his playing career

Today, we’re launching the open beta of Pipelines, our streaming ingestion product. Pipelines allows you to ingest high volumes of structured, real-time data, and load it into our object storage service, R2
You don’t have to manage any of the underlying infrastructure
worry about scaling shards or metadata services
and you pay for the data processed (and not by the hour)
Anyone on a Workers paid plan can start using it to ingest and batch data — at tens of thousands of requests per second (RPS) — directly into R2
But this is just the tip of the iceberg: you often want to transform the data you’re ingesting
and write it to an open table format (such as Apache Iceberg)
so that you can efficiently query that data once you’ve landed it in object storage
The good news is that we’ve thought about that too, and we’re excited to announce that we’ve acquired Arroyo
With Arroyo and our just announced R2 Data Catalog
we’re getting increasingly serious about building a data platform that allows you to ingest data across the planet
To get started, you can dive into the Pipelines developer docs or just run this Wrangler command to create your first pipeline:
the true power comes from the processing of data streams between ingestion and when they’re written to sinks like R2
Being able to write SQL that acts on windows of data as it’s being ingested
and even extract insights from the data in real-time
and we’re going to be bringing the best parts of Arroyo into Pipelines and deeply integrate it with Workers
We started Arroyo in 2023 to bring real-time (stream) processing to everyone who works with data
Modern companies rely on data pipelines to power their applications and businesses — from user customization
After spending many years working on stream processing at companies like Lyft and Splunk
it was no mystery why: it was just too hard for developers and data scientists to build correct
Large tech companies hire streaming experts to build and operate these systems
but everyone else is stuck waiting for batches to arrive
the dominant solution for streaming pipelines — and what we ran at Lyft and Splunk — was Apache Flink
Flink was the first system that successfully combined a fault-tolerant (able to recover consistently from failures)
stateful (and remember data about past events) dataflow with a graph-construction API
This combination of features meant that we could finally build powerful real-time data applications
in practice the API proved too hard and low-level for non-expert users
and the stateful nature of the resulting services required endless operations
We realized we would need to build a new streaming engine — one with the power of Flink
but designed for product engineers and data scientists and to run on modern cloud infrastructure
We started with SQL as our API because it’s easy to use
We built it in Rust for speed and operational simplicity (no JVM tuning required!)
We constructed an object-storage-native state backend
simplifying the challenge of running stateful pipelines — which each are like a weird
dozens of companies are running Arroyo pipelines with use cases including data ingestion
and Workers to safely and efficiently run user code
allows us to push these systems all the way to the edge
enabling a new paradigm of local stream processing that will be key for a future of data sovereignty and AI
That’s why we’re incredibly excited to join with the Cloudflare team to make this vision a reality
While transformations and a streaming SQL API are on the way for Pipelines
it already solves two critical parts of the data journey: globally distributed
high-throughput ingestion and efficient loading into object storage
Creating a pipeline is as simple as running one command:
a pipeline can ingest data from two sources – Workers and an HTTP endpoint – and load batched events into an R2 bucket
This gives you an out-of-the-box solution for streaming raw event data into object storage
you can configure pipelines during creation or anytime after
Options include: adding authentication to the HTTP endpoint
configuring CORS to allow browsers to make cross-origin requests
and specifying output file compression and batch settings
We’ve built Pipelines for high ingestion volumes from day 1
Each pipeline can scale to ~100,000 records per second (and we’re just getting started here)
Batching is critical here: if you’re going to act on and query that data
you don’t want your query engine querying millions (or tens of millions) of tiny files
It’s slow (per-file & request overheads)
you want to find the right balance between batch size for your query engine and latency (not waiting too long for a batch): Pipelines allows you to configure this
output files are partitioned by date and time
using the standard Hive partitioning scheme
because your query engine can just skip data that is irrelevant to the query you’re running
The output in your R2 bucket might look like this:
Hive-partioned files from Pipelines in an R2 bucket
Output files are stored as new-line delimited JSON (NDJSON) — which makes it easy to materialize a stream from these files (hint: in the future you’ll be able to use R2 as a pipeline source too). Finally, the file names are ULIDs - so they’re sorted by time by default
What makes Pipelines so horizontally scalable and able to acknowledge writes quickly is how we built it: we use Durable Objects and the embedded, zero-latency SQLite storage within each Durable Object to immediately persist data as it’s written
before then processing it and writing it to R2
For example: imagine you’re an e-commerce or SaaS site and need to ingest website usage data (known as clickstream data)
and make it available to your data science team to query
The infrastructure which handles this workload has to be resilient to several failure scenarios
The ingestion service needs to maintain high availability in the face of bursts in traffic
to minimize downstream invocations and thus downstream cost
the buffered data needs to be delivered to a sink
with appropriate retry & failure handling if the sink is unavailable
Each step of this process needs to signal backpressure upstream when overloaded
It also needs to scale: up during major sales or events
and down during the quieter periods of the day
Data engineers reading this post might be familiar with the status quo of using Kafka and the associated ecosystem to handle this
But if you’re an application engineer: you use Pipelines to build an ingestion service without learning about Kafka
The diagram above shows how Pipelines splits the control plane
which is a scalable group of Durable Objects shards
When a record (or batch of records) is written to Pipelines:
The Pipelines Worker receives the records either through the fetch handler or worker binding
based upon the pipeline_id to get the execution plan: subsequent reads are cached to reduce pressure on the coordinator
while are primarily serving to scale read request handling
These then re-shard to another set of executors that are actually handling the writes, beginning with persisting to Durable Object storage, which will be replicated for durability and availability by the Storage Relay Service (SRS)
we pass to any configured Transform Workers to customize the data
we use RPC stubs for connection reuse between Durable Objects
Each step is also able to retry operations
to handle any temporary unavailability in the Durable Objects or R2
We also guarantee delivery even while updating an existing pipeline
including all the shards and Durable Objects described above
Requests are gracefully re-routed to the new pipeline
The old pipeline continues to write data into R2
until all the Durable Object storage is drained
We spin down the old pipeline only after all the data has been written out
you won’t lose data even while updating a pipeline
You’ll notice there’s one interesting part in here — the Transform Workers — which we haven’t yet exposed
As we work to integrate Arroyo’s streaming engine with Pipelines
this will be a key part of how we hand over data for Arroyo to process
there will be no additional charges beyond standard R2 storage and operation costs incurred when loading and accessing data
so you can process and query your data from any cloud or region without worrying about data transfer costs adding up
we plan to introduce pricing based on volume of data ingested into Pipelines and delivered from Pipelines:
We’re also planning to make Pipelines available on the Workers Free plan as the beta progresses
We’ll be sharing more as we bring transformations and additional sinks to Pipelines
We’ll provide at least 30 days notice before we make any changes or start charging for usage
and we’re keen to build on a lot of the powerful components that Arroyo has built: integrating Workers as UDFs (User-Defined Functions)
and extending Pipelines with new sinks (beyond R2)
We’ll also be integrating Pipelines with our just-launched R2 Data Catalog: enabling you ingest streams of data directly into Iceberg tables and immediately query them

Businesses and schools in the Five Cities area are having to adapt following the boil water notice that went into effect Wednesday
We're going to do that so we can have coffee for our customers," said Tammi Price
the owner of Village Cafe in Arroyo Grande
or brew coffee normally as a result of the advisory
"It's going to be a struggle but hopefully it's going to pass soon," Price said
"All of our customers have been very understanding and they support us
They can't make coffee at their house," she said
San Luis Obispo County Public Works says coliform bacteria was found this week during routine testing of the Lopez Water Distribution System
and Avila Beach were told to boil their water or use bottled water to avoid potential illness
At the Lucia Mar Unified School District office
the director of food services says their schools are also having to adapt
they're boiling water and letting it cool and then rinsing any produce to ensure that the water is safe for our food prep
Then we have bottled water that we're providing our students who need that," said Danica Hunt
A district spokesperson says all of their school sites in the Five Cities area are impacted by this advisory
Price and Hunt both say they are hopeful the advisory will quickly be lifted

Thisis an exclusive a lot of you have been askingfor and look I aim to please
He's an actorwhose intense performances have moved audiences for decades
He burstonto screens in The Thin Red Line and then fromthe Countermanty Christo to the Passion of the Christ
Jim(00:32):cavizl leaves a deep impression on every role he touches. His Sound of Freedom was the breakout hit that mademore than two hundred and fifty million dollars at thebox office and shook the industry
And now he's poisedto play Jesus again in Mel Gibson's sequel to The Passion.By the way
go subscribe to a Royal Grande show(00:54):right now on YouTube or wherever you get your podcastsand turn the notifications on
I don't want you tomiss an episode like this one
Jim Cavizil sat downwith me to discuss how he is preparing to stepinto the sandals of the Savior once more
how thiswill be different for him and his personal life
his career,and much more.Speaker 2 (01:15):Watch.Speaker 1 (01:16):I want to start with where this acting thing came.Speaker 2 (01:19):From probably junior High
I was Iwas impersonating everybody that I saw
from Christopher Walking toEddie Murphy and who was kind of a knack
Andhe'd be around your family and impersonating people and saythat's really good
And I was doing a Christmas(01:41):play at Immaculate Conception School in Notunt Vernon and therewas a character named Simeon in the play and itwas had a lot of lines
The music teacher was like,it was kind of pushing me to do it
and just we're getting tothe end of the play
the there was a piece(02:03):in there the Lord is My Shepherd
and I justwent into a zone and people were crying in the audience. And afterwards the people would say you should be an actor, and the nuns were saying you should be a priest. And two things I said
I do not want to(02:25):be as actor or a priest
I don't want tobe an NBA basketball player
Yeah,of course.Speaker 1 (02:33):Tell me about the movie theater incident you go to see.Speaker 2 (02:36):Was it Hoosiers
Every day I wouldgo and work on I would chart all my basketballshots and different things like that
I walkeddown the College Way and there was a Cinema fivetheater and I went in and watched Ghost several times, and at presence landed outside the movie theater
Idon't know why until I did the passion that happened.Something similar happened
but it was a thousand yards away.Your soul has this kind of knowledge
and it cameinto the theater and presence came over me
and I couldn't believe he loved methat much
And thenthere was a voice and I heard it and he said,I'd like you to be an actor exactly that Ileft an indelible mark on my heart
I mean I was flirting with it now.(03:47):Around those time was I had gotten my screen Actor'sGuild card with the Gus Vans movie and I wasa ticket taker and.Speaker 1 (03:58):I faked out the I have had Idaho
which Idid not know you were in until this week.Speaker 2 (04:03):Yeah
But I pretended that Iwas Italian and I faked it
But if you believe whenyou're speaking and you're convincing
So they believed it and(04:26):it got the part until the casting director called me.She says
because they thought you wereItalian and I said no
they cast me and they used me(04:47):without the Italian accent.Speaker 1 (04:49):And and you shared screen time with Keanu and River Phoenix.Speaker 2 (04:53):Yeah
spend a little time with them.Speaker 1 (04:55):Yeah
Tellme about the dean who was your manager
whom weknow the way we met was Beverly Dan
she managed your career really upuntil the passion.Speaker 2 (05:10):I met Beverly through a co management deal with awoman named Bev Cheney
And sheput me in a car with another guy named BrendanFraser and we would drive down to auditions together
We(05:30):flew to audition for General Hospital with Jeanie Francis
Bothhim and I neither one of us got it.Speaker 1 (05:37):But he's from Washington State as well.Speaker 2 (05:40):Yeah
I cameto LA and Beverly was this woman who did theyou know she if you read about her
it's really fascinating. But she worked for ABC as a psychic and she(06:03):picked the whole schedule for ABC and she got blacklisted. And anyway
I was down there and she could picktalent and she had me on taking this young girlto auditions and it was Reese Witherspoon
uh and Iat some point I auditioned for Juilliard and got in,and then I really started belief
Well you turned it down.Speaker 1 (06:46):You turned Juilliard down because you got a film gig.Speaker 2 (06:48):No
And Idid the movie with Kevin Costner to play his little brother. But it gave me sixteen twenty weeks on a moviewhere you know
And then I got a full scholarship(07:09):to Juilliard
And then Juilliard renigged on their degreement
there was the thin red line. And when Julliard were nigged down their agreement with me.John Kirby
We went to Mass together and it's importantbecause you know
there's a lot of things that youngactors can get involved in
they were going toclubs and they were the poor guys like me
orguys that had a lot of money that were on(07:52):Beverly Hills nine on TU and O or those shows. And that was it
So what Iwould do is I'd get up in the morning
got out of(08:14):six thirty Mass and went right direct to Loyla MarrimountUniversity where I was working out with the basketball playersbecause remember I played all right
so these guys areworking on going the NBA and got to play withsome phenomenal great players
But that level of intensity anddiscipline and discipline goes on to you
and then the third is the mental, which was the acting that I was working on
I went(08:57):to Catholic school for many years to do it
I didn't know what the transubstantiation was.I learned that when I was around thirty
Obviously theRosary is powerful because it's through Jesus to marry to Jesus. But it's Matthew
It's the Gospels,it's the story and much you're meditating
Owners you're meditating,(09:19):but you're I'm meditating on the Gospels
and if you go back to the movie theater,I had a strong premonition that this was that moment.Right now
and I'm I getout of the car and I went I didn't domy rosary
because a lot ofpeople there are not you know
they're kind of uppity,(10:02):and say they are
And so you go in and sure, here she is and I said
So we come inand we're talking about this and that
And I hadmy wife's grandmother's rosary on me and that was the(10:26):rosary I prayed
this is for you,and she couldn't believe I gave it to her
I lost my rosary thatmother Teresa gave me from a friend of mine
And youjust so it was a miracle.Speaker 1 (10:59):You said to me that Terry Malick is your fatherin film
Whatdid you take from him in that first in Red Line?Speaker 2 (11:09):Terry Malick is a big ruth
is a generational player.Michael Jordan is a generational player
I've worked with twogenerational directors in my opinion of a lot of good ones, but I would say Mel Gibson and Terry Malick
it'smy father in film because he's a man that couldhave gone by a way of the world and done(11:30):a lot of that
He's still extremely private and youknow what
you really kind of have to be andin a lot of ways he'd like to be anopen book
but you gotto be an open book to certain people
and yougot to keep that circle of trust pretty close.Speaker 1 (11:54):I don't want to pass by Count Monte Christia
beautiful film in many ways andwas a statement of faith because
What effect didhe have on you?Speaker 2 (12:15):He opened up a side of himself of God
And we were goingthrough back and forth on the scene where his death scene, and I said
God saith vengeance is mine and Kevin says, don't say that
serve the sentence for(12:37):remember God saith vengeance is mine
andI just gave myself to the scene and I justlost it
It kind of hit me as a partin your life where I had no God
I had a hole in myheart and it just came out
it was just and you're learning a lotkind of on the job
and a great actor likehim when they sees that those guys have always you know,(13:19):at some points I'd keep working
That was very special.What we did.Speaker 3 (13:24):In fact
If you go down to Malta andf it up like Oliver did
Oliver Reed died right there.(13:45):And this was like three days later after having thisscene with Richard
It was likehe died right and Richard had just told me this. And then we were working on the Passion and myhair person had Richard Harris on the.Speaker 2 (14:04):Phone and he's like
Now areyou guys doing because we were.Speaker 1 (14:09):Getting just pummabled at that point
Let's go back tothe beginning of that story.Speaker 2 (14:15):Sure
Mel approaches you not to play.Speaker 1 (14:19):Jesus or or in a movie called The Passion
and you goand meet he and Steve.Speaker 2 (14:29):Mcavidie out here
there isa store who was down on Canaan had burned down
Well, actually they're building it back up again
and Steve shows up and he's got a(14:52):book on Mavericks
I think TomHanks was going to be involved in it somehow
So I read the script and I thinkKevin Reynolds was getting directed
Who did Money Crystal with me?I'd never served before
It was thenext ten years that I started learning how to massagicthe things
I made some decisions where I can't(15:35):believe I turned that movie down
that script wasn't there when I read it,you know
And I eventually did get there with someother actors
You put the right people in and getit there
andprobably forty minutes into the meeting
and we were talking about surfing moviesand everything
it's not a surfing movie and it'snot Jesus on his surfboard
how's that gonna work? And I just went and now I go back when(16:23):I'm nineteen years old in the movie theater and I went,oh my god
He was smoking a cigarette at the time.He doesn't even smoke anymore
I don't need anybody to tell.Speaker 1 (17:04):Me whether
nothing.Speaker 2 (17:07):I didn't ask Beverly
He called me at home twodays later and he goes
no,what I wanted to make was what really happened.Speaker 2 (17:24):So I was okay with that
but I didn't realizedbecause I really didn't know my faith much at that time.I remember
I didn'teven know if you said what transubstantiation was
Even though Iwent to Catholic school for years
they didn't They didn'tteach us any of that stuff
you come in as honor as a Catholic.(17:46):My wife when she was in bed and she hadsomething underneath
She had a rosary, grabbed it through it across
Sahgat.I get out of here because I thought it waslike voodoo stuff
I don't know anything,but I do now.Speaker 1 (18:07):Yeah
There'sno more difficult role because you're not dealing with aconflicted character
There's no obstacles reallyexcept people in your case in the case of the passion, they're throwing rocks at him
There people blocking them.Speaker 2 (18:28):But he's perfection.Speaker 1 (18:30):How do you approach that as an actor practically speaking.Speaker 2 (18:34):Well
he might notlike my answer when the answer is really simple
I read that I had as a Catholic,we have sacraments as all Christians
Baptism the Rosary was an important weapon for(18:55):me because it was the Bible without being able toread it
and soI was able to go there while I'm kind ofyou go into a kind of a trance when you're filming,(19:18):and I had to because of the makeup times fromtwo in the morning till ten
I can'thave any sin on him.Speaker 1 (19:31):Other things that I mean
you personally couldn't have anysin during that peer.Speaker 2 (19:35):Of course
and I would meditate on through the sacraments, through the Eucharist
I had the Rosary that(19:56):I was meditating
I can't take the Biblewhile I'm up on the passion holding it
My handsare tied up and I couldn't count on my fingersanymore because I couldn't feel him
And I wastied so the shoulder kept you separated
your shoulders separated. The shoulders was rols
So what I did was I(20:17):picked out eleven things
One guy was the our Father, and then I would just look at ten things
Hall Mary, and that I would start with the wedding all over again, all over this
and that I would do the entire uh,the sorrowful mysteries
That's what you did while you wereon the girls
I was doing that while I was(20:38):on the cross because the pain was excruciating
and he tookme somewhere and I would start to because we wereso cold
They would take you down off the cross.I'd go in into this cave and they had aheater and the wind was just blowing and they couldn'tget me warm enough
when you have a torn shoulder and you're shaking, that hurt
So the the thenthe these heaters and the wind would come up
They had latex all over yourbodies that they build
they built because it's(21:23):scourging and everything
So that was the awful part about it.And then again from lack of sleep is when theinfection started in my lungs and then I had double pneumonia.I was on antibiotics the whole time
and then that'swhen the aphibs started coming
I got ripped right in half(21:45):from that lightning bolt
And then my then two heart surgeries.Speaker 1 (21:52):And you think that that's what contributed to the heart problems.Lightning strike and the hypothermia and the and the.Speaker 2 (21:58):Well that was a phib
When I was on the cross, the doctor put the stepth of scope on my heartand he turned to Melanie said he could die becausehe's listening to fluid in my lungs and he's alsolistening to a.Speaker 1 (22:10):Herd in the hypothermy when you were going through a hypothermia. But remember this
because we end up getting ifyou ask Christian Tinsley
But I would literally theymade a cross on a if you watch the making(22:39):of you'll see across they had a bike seat
just I couldn't couldn't stay awake.Then I'd go in the chair
because the beard had tobe built because the scourging
So they(23:01):had to lay that in and it was hand down.It took an hour
I loved it because this manwas massaging my face as I was sleeping
and thenyou'd have someone to hold my head
I would justsleep in the chair.Speaker 1 (23:16):Well
I remember being withyou at a time in Rome when you would comeback after that day and you were in the fulllateex the body
it would take another eight hoursto reapply
and I remember(23:36):you in the morning it was burning you and youcould they couldn't pull it off.Speaker 2 (23:42):Yes
I did take ita two hour after every day I would go inthe shower for two hours and they turn up really hot,and I would start drinking tons of water
and what in the heat would startsweat and it would start to separate
And then Christian(24:04):Tinsley and his assistant would get in hazmat suits inthis big you know
like a regular shower you wouldsee in a locker room
and then I had to put this appointment on.All the rubbing caused the skin to you know
it's just and.Speaker 1 (24:29):What do you think was the purpose of all ofthat was that to bring you closer to the sufferingthat he actually went through.Speaker 2 (24:35):Oh
It was constant torment and just that you'regoing to fail
Just the fact that how am Igoing to learn this aramaic
I don't have enough time(24:56):in day to even learn it
I would go get home andI would go to the gym and I'd start doingbecause I had to make sure that I had tokeep my legs strength up to be able to holdmyself up
years of playing basketball and staying in adefensive stance was really actually critical for this role becauseall my weight went into one leg and I'd haveto hold it there for you know
Everytime they had a mag then they'd bring the postin and I try to you know
And so you know,if you put that heater to close
it would melt it.Speaker 1 (26:00):There's a moment in the Passion where you're carrying thecross and it's on screen
And I know you were suffering awful duringthat shoot
but melt left a chunk of that in.Speaker 2 (26:17):Where you hurt yourself
But this(26:38):thing really got the shoulder separator
so nowyou're going into the crucifixion scenes and I don't knowif I could pull us off because of this
this.Speaker 1 (26:55):That that hurt extending your arm.Speaker 2 (26:57):It's just from that point on it was all Ihad a problem
And what happened was they tiedme up and so when that cross is bending
itwould go snap and it would throw that shoulder out.So you know
the the idea that you and Iwere talking one time
and it forced me into the(27:19):arms of my God because I had nowhere else to go.I really it took me back to the movie theater. It took me back to the whole life
which is I,I'd like you to be an actor and I andyou felt this was the purpose
what wasI was connected to was the fact that the moment(27:41):I learned how much he loved me
I was Iwanted to do it for him because I didn't feelI deserved it
none of us really do.But the fact that he loved me like that heknew who I was
and that that's what that wasmy That was it
That was the whole deal for me.Speaker 1 (27:59):There was also a lot improvised on this movie
which is such a sweet and beautiful momentwhere Jesus and Mary are together and it's really oneof the few light moments in the Passion
but itwasn't originally there.Speaker 2 (28:19):So it was the very first scene I ever donein Aramaic
Maya is so beautiful. She came over and she starts speaking to me in Aramaic. She goes right into the scene and I looked ather and I wasn't used to her voice or anything. We didn't even rehearse it
She went right into it(28:39):and we were doing the thing with the chairs andsitting at the table
kind of lightermoments of it when you look out and you know
fulfillment. But it was brilliant that mel put those moments in(29:01):there to kind of lighten it up to well
I forgot oh yeah,we got to do the thing where we're walking away. It's just so we did it for through four timesor whatever
can you just(29:22):do something you know kind of you know
we're and Iwas washed my hands and then went right to herface immediately kissed her
And I was able to do(29:44):that like that because of how she wasn't when we met,and there was something very endearing about her
And thenjust and then up Mell was like you could hear this.Speaker 1 (29:57):Meaning that good?Speaker 2 (29:58):That's the one that's the Yeah
I love it.Speaker 1 (30:02):Do you are you excited.Speaker 2 (30:05):Or worried about.Speaker 1 (30:09):Being on set with my Morgenstern and getting back intothat particular toga again.Speaker 2 (30:19):You went through hell on the first movie Each Other
because it was part of thepurpose of why I was born
I take it very seriously.A friend of mine made this for me in Magic Goya.On one side
On the other side it'sthirty three and I have five diamonds on it
and on the top is Saint Benedict's medal. It's a good war against Satan and the forces of evil, and this is a this is a great weapon against evil.(31:05):I was I'm not a sheep
I was born tobe either a sheep dog that was a wolf
And when you say evil,I look at it because what's in me is greater(31:26):than that
Andthe films that we make are controlling the world's narrative. And they did
So we did a good job.And so now I get these bonus years
But around twenty thirteen was the beginning. On February twenty to feast of my we were at Disneyland. It was my son's birthday
And he came to me and heshowed me that you know
there's another one and it's coming.(32:15):And this was in twenty thirteen
He told me to get this movie.I came on real quick
fifteen years when I started innineteen eighty eight to get me to two thousand and(32:36):two when we made it
but it just takes the right time. And only got what was the years Jim for the sequel. So going back to years
I wouldn't want to work withthat actor because you're not ready.Speaker 1 (33:08):And this is a war
a quick free flow beforewe go back to Jim Cavizel in KYSH
Suddenly everywhere you look there are faithinflected films on streaming at the cineplex
an animated feature retelling the storyof Jesus
made nineteen million dollars in its opening weekend(33:32):and it was number two overall
The House of Davidwas one of Amazon's most watched series
There was afilm about the Virgin Mary on Netflix
There's another comingto screens at the end of the year with Cavizlas Herod
then there's the Chosen and of course, the most anticipated Jesus film ever
Mel Gibson's Resurrection of(33:52):the Christ
What amazes me is the industry is alwaysaghast when these films turn up huge audiences in box office.Ye of little faith
The challenge is to have the artmatch the subject matter
a lot(34:15):of what passes for faith based films has so muchcheese in it you'd swear it were sponsored by Valveda.Speaker 2 (34:23):You know what I mean.Speaker 1 (34:23):A perfect person encounters a little problem
they pray toGod that everything turns out okay
and they're more perfectby the end of the film
It's a hack ofa lot easier to hit those magical God tropes inthe same old way than to dig deep and breaknew artistic ground and layer in human meaning and doubtand conflict and suffering
as I've been(34:47):saying for years and years
Thisaudience was exposed by Gibson twenty years ago when noone saw religious epic coming
But audiences today want somethingmore than sand
They want these filmsto have human relationships they can relate to
suffering anauthentic recognition of the divine that they feel all around them,(35:11):a supernatural sense of good and evil that only thebest artists they're capable of summoning
What I fear isthat Hollywood will start green lighting all kinds of shlockbased on the successes of just a few films
they're only around because of the(35:32):success of Cavizl's Sound of Freedom a few summers ago, when that blockbuster crashed in
Hollywood took notice and startedtrying to reach that faith audience
It's a worthy pursuit, but unless creators have real beliefs and an understanding ofthe sensibilities of that audience
they'll never be able toattract and hold them
Any Time you touch this kind(35:53):of supernaturally charged material
especially a story based in the scriptures, there is a hard
anybody involved, and a reminder of the tracks you think you're walkingin and a remembrance of what happened to the first(36:14):guy who got up and told his audience stories orparables that were filled with such truth they struck anerve and rattled consciences
It ain't for the fate of heart, but those are the only stories that truly change livesand the world
As you'll hear from Jim cavesl whatin your life helped you connect to the suffering of Jesus?Speaker 2 (36:37):What in my life?Speaker 1 (36:38):Yeah
I mean we all look to our own livesto connect with these
you're lookingwhen did I go through something that was like this, was similar to this
Was there anything like that thatyou connected with?Speaker 2 (36:54):Yes
but it's just not somethingI want to talk about publicly
But I would saythat it was during that time that I reached outto God and said
and he did,and he came in a way which he gave me(37:15):my purpose and if and I always I ask people, you know
don't ask for power, don't ask for any of that
Just ask for apurpose and you may get those things anyway
What did you(37:37):learn about Jesus in playing him that you didn't knowwhen this started
I always say I never played him.He played me
You know the gifts that you have that(37:58):you Many people that go through their lives they neverknow that they could have done something
But I was justsaying that if I had gone into West Point
I would have.Speaker 1 (38:19):What did you learn about him when it was done Jesus' time
We always learned things whenyou particularly when you play a character
You know peoplemore intimately after you play them than you do thaneven a historian does
because you put them in yoursoul in some ways.Speaker 2 (38:38):Well
he was with me when I was on the cross. The last I heard I had this internal internal lucution, and he said
And that's whenthe doctor is putting the stethoscope on my heart
There's nothing fakery about that.I was freaking
and I butI was.Speaker 1 (39:12):I was.Speaker 2 (39:13):I thought
first the devil comes and hetakes away your your career
butit that went right up to the electrocution
There was no enjoyment of that processbecause boom
I mean,(39:55):if these are my shoulders and this is my head.I was at this angle
Mcaleney walks over and hesprings an umbrella
and I'm looking at his handand his hand explodes
sparks fly out of his handsbecause another one boom
and it waslike my head imploded and then exploded
I'm at the end.I'm there's they had a medic truck
and they're reading my heart and everything. And then eventually the big surgery I had was well(40:39):when was at the Stanford doctor patch Walla
But thendoctor gillen Off and doctor Griffin at Cleveland Clinic savedmy life and two heart surgeries
and they I came out of surgery.I had the tubes
you know,(41:00):it's it's rough because you're you can't you can't talkand you got all these tubes in your throat and everything, and and all of a sudden boom
I It's likesomeone took an egg and cracked it on on thelower right side
It just I died right there.Speaker 1 (41:22):Now.Speaker 2 (41:22):Ma us'n coom oh
The and everything from that wasthe put the Eucharist next to the camera
If you look in my eyes, you'll see a camera and you'll see a Catholic priestFolco sitting exposing the host
And how are you preparing(41:45):now for this resurrection?Speaker 1 (41:50):I mean
I'll return twenty years later to this world. That really branded and marked your career.Speaker 2 (41:57):So I'm fifty seven
But what's crazy about it isjust be the best you can at the age you'reat now
the joints that all the years.Speaker 1 (42:16):The good news is you don't have the beating
You don't have all of that in this movie.Speaker 2 (42:21):But there's a lot of wisdom left there and it'swhere he needed me to be
He'd have done it right after the passion. He would have said
I'm also when you're thirty three years old, have you think you're going to be thirty three forever?(42:42):You always be this way or always be I don'tknow why
But there's something there that I'm the controllerof my destiny and you're not
And I don't control time, and I think that had to be wiped away from me.It's a gift time
We have no control over it.I was just reading see Us Lewis today the screwtape(43:04):Big Demons talking to Wormwood
those humansthey think they have control of twenty four hours a day. What a bunch of idiots until the end and it's over, and that's where they go
he's mine is.I don't want it to get to that
I justso maybe that's what Jesus taught you
You're not in command,(43:24):and the enormity of the physical suff I shouldn't be where. They tasted a bit of it well
The doctorsran into the room and I watched them.Speaker 1 (43:38):I was.Speaker 2 (43:41):Out of body experience
Itold them that I watched all of you when youwere in the room when I was dead
not all of them believe the way we believe. But they were like they I could tell them everybody.I told them what they were doing in the room.I watched it and I felt the most peace
And then they brought meback and then I felt the most pain.Speaker 1 (44:08):Yeah
Then you'reback full circle.Speaker 2 (44:11):Moment.Speaker 1 (44:11):Look
Thisis Holy Week when everybody spends a moment
Christians spendtime meditating on the sufferings of Jesus
the passion.Speaker 2 (44:26):When you look up at a crucifix in a church, what goes through your mind
Because it takes(44:47):me back to what my perspective on the passion
Sothe gift I have is looking from our Lord's perspective, not mine
which is what people that don't(45:09):love him
I wantedfor people to have an experience that they would knowJesus from watching a movie
And I would say tohim why not you come through me
And I begged him, begged him over and over again
Will you come through me?Will you present yourself to the world
but I cansee him and he was sitting in an Indian styleand he was very sad
he's not a requirement of you as aCatholic to do this movie
And he was so sad when he said it.(45:54):And I said why
What am I going to ask you?He wouldn't tell me
So when I got my shoulder dislocated,I went down bit through my tongue
I said I was in suchpain and I said I don't want them to see me.I only want them to see you
And then I(46:18):turned to Marry and I said
Dad,completely different scene all the other takes
My arm went over and Mills said itwas like a precious child
I was in cruciating painto put my arm over
It was trying to find(47:00):a better position
whatever it takes,if it comes through that
the greatest things in lifecome through these horrible pains that you have
and ifyou just hang in there and you're ready to goback down that path again
That's what all those that's reallythat somebody's of that book is the Saints
Isn't that the treasure?Speaker 1 (47:37):Though
That that That's what I could have asked themfor anything
obviously you'renot the suffering Jesus this time out.Speaker 2 (47:51):This is the resurrected Jesus
how do you approach that.I read about it today in the screw tape lettersdoing this recording
the divinelight coming through in the present moment
Now we know(48:11):of eternity that's coming someday
but it's it's staying in this,in this moment
When you do that. You know that one's coming
but I'm not. He's already putting the the devil is already doing andwhat he has to do to me right now
but there's enough to where my coach,(48:35):god Father's son
Holy Spirit and all the heaven isalready guiding this right now
that will never but Iwas worried on the least one
did I fail?I will fail if it get if I get too(48:58):far out of all my skis
really, really stay in this moment.Speaker 1 (49:05):As we anticipate the resurrection
I was surprised.Speaker 2 (49:08):I want to enjoy this one more than I didthe other one
I got too far over my skis.On the other one
I was concerned that it wasnot an aramaic you know
Just because I don't do it(49:32):in or make doesn't mean Jesus goes away through thesacraments is I won't do it without the sacraments
But Ilove that.Speaker 1 (49:46):I've never heard you say that before
I'm looking I hope,I'm looking forward to enjoying this one more.Speaker 2 (49:51):Yes
so really experiencing the resurrection because you knowyou're not going to get this many shots
You know,I'm never going to get another shot at this again. And I remember somebody telling me you should take a journal.I said
documented some of(50:13):the stuff that I went through that you know
well,now you get another chance.Speaker 1 (50:17):Yeah
Yeah,you're in prosthetics for this role.Speaker 2 (50:24):Yeah
It was four or five hours every day andthat was the key to it
it was I knewhe was aramic and they were like
this is how he's because theywere doing that freaking accent today I don't know
nobody here can do aramic like(50:47):I could do well
He would be meeting with this kingover here from Egypt
from right all these other air is,so he wouldn't have he wouldn't sound like any ofthese guys from a local town
He would be a king. And when I first started
this guy wasa great herod was a great athlete
I love the stories of(51:35):you know what
And what they did on Bethlehem was nothingshort of pure genocide like the Nazis
It was well orchestrated,(51:58):well done
And where he was I think hewas like the head guy in Galilee
He'd done sucha great job with the shipping and the money
His father was murdered and(52:20):taken out by a group of faction
and he moved fast. And he's removed all of these and he ended.Speaker 1 (52:27):And he was a great builder
They didn't call himheard the grade for nothing.Speaker 2 (52:30):That's right
He returned it was putting it back toits old glory
So he understood the people and whatwould keep him in power and also the factions of individuals. That why those other kingdoms and areas Masada had tobe built for him to protect him
to protect whatwere they?Speaker 1 (52:47):They were fortresses that he could run to.Speaker 2 (52:49):He needed to este based out
I got to ask you my royal grande questionsthat I ask everybody.Speaker 2 (52:57):You're ready
I'm not good at that.Speaker 1 (53:00):Will be who's the person you most admire?Speaker 2 (53:03):My wife
As thoughit's not even have to think about that
See thatwas a bad question.Speaker 1 (53:11):Well I'm starting easy.Speaker 2 (53:13):I'm not good at the who's the person you most despise?I've forgiven them another good answer?Speaker 1 (53:23):What is your best feature?Speaker 2 (53:26):Feature
notfeature film.Speaker 1 (53:35):What's your best feature as a person
as a asan actor?Speaker 2 (53:42):Isn't that a feature
It can be anything.Speaker 1 (53:44):It could be a quality
it could be a physical trait.What's your best feature?Speaker 2 (53:48):I don't know
I haven't thought about it.Speaker 1 (53:50):You know what people would say
your eyes they're older, but that's probably what they would say
is your best feature?Speaker 2 (53:59):But they're smiling.Speaker 1 (54:00):What depends on if you're the guy you just forgaveor not?Speaker 2 (54:03):I guess I rish eyes or smile
they must be up to something exactly exactly
The first thing isis is resurrection the film the greatest fear
But you got to remember, though it's I was born to do so
I'm one(54:48):of the best husband I want to be
What is the thing you know that noone else knows
I've heard other actors say it before. You know you're going to fail
You know that it(55:10):might be the great a gift that you have
is that I have toout work on it and then the gift takes overfrom there.Speaker 1 (55:26):What's your favorite book.Speaker 2 (55:28):The one I'm doing right now is Screwtape Letters
It'swhat I'm into.Speaker 1 (55:34):It's a lot of fun
it's book and it's very wise.Speaker 2 (55:37):Well it's very wise
but it's getting me ready forthe Resurrection
So I'm breakingit apart and going through it and getting into thethoughts of evil
the antithesis of what I'mgoing to be playing
And there's something how Jesus works(56:00):is so simple there's a reason why I'm doing it,and it's during Lent
Even though you andI are going to go to a nice restaurant after this,I'm not going to have any wine.Speaker 1 (56:11):Oh okay
well maybe we won't be going to dinner.Speaker 2 (56:15):What is your biggest regret
I don't really have any.Speaker 1 (56:19):You don't have a professional regret
a role youshould have taken.Speaker 2 (56:24):No
because there were reasons for it at the time. They've worked out
no regrets.Speaker 2 (56:31):I would have had a major regret if I hadnot married my wife
That would have been and thatalmost happened
and.Speaker 1 (56:41):But I.Speaker 2 (56:44):My soul was enough pointed in the right direction wheresomething from above said
gave me a bitof a broken heart and said she was in theplan for you
And I did.Speaker 1 (56:58):What's the best piece of it vice you ever got?Speaker 2 (57:02):I was talking to this this old priest and he says
Well,that's a good.Speaker 1 (57:13):Piece of advice
like somepeople get into drugs and they go just one time. But if I think you measure that
just look at the peoplethat they couldn't get rid of it
I was workingon a movie called Pay It Forward
and I went(57:45):down to First Avenue and I was with the peoplethat were heroin addictions and they're all going to die.And the man that was working with me was helooked like he was in a concentration camp
and he was teaching me how toput the out looks
And I watched all of them.(58:11):But I hear people talking about all the time whenthey say this is a pay it forward program orwe're going to pay it forward
I played a heroin addict andI think of that guy
and so I always prayfor him when this is over
I'm so happy that my children get to see,you know
It's the only white way that(58:53):this thing is going to work.Speaker 1 (58:55):But what happens when this is over.Speaker 2 (58:58):When this is over
Maybe play a little golf.Speaker 1 (59:13):We're going to go out to dinner
That's what happenswhen this is over.Speaker 2 (59:17):Thank you
Jim.Speaker 1 (59:20):Here's the hole what you and I can take fromJim Cavizl's path
Thephysical discipline he imposes on himself and the spiritual discipline, which he credits for his greatest performances
maintaining these bodiesthe only instruments we really have
and then spending time(59:42):with God to figure out what he's calling you toand how you get there
Those elements are critical.Speaker 2 (59:50):It's not just for.Speaker 1 (59:50):Actors playing Jesus
The hardest part,I guess is the mystery of suffering that Jim hascertainly tasted
We all experience when striving to do great things. The hardship at times redirects and deepens our work.Speaker 2 (01:00:07):I think for the better.Speaker 1 (01:00:09):It certainly purifies your intentions and maybe that's why it'sthere in the first place
That is fantastic advice.Thank you for spending time with us

authorities allege that over $47 million went from businesses run by James and Kelly Jensen to “Mexican businesses.”

Reds prospect Arroyo 'ready to go' after missing '24 seasonFebruary 28th
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- It should have been a routine pickoff play for Reds shortstop prospect Edwin Arroyo
Arroyo was leading off first base when a pickoff throw came
He dove back and extended his left arm reaching for the bag
Then he didn't get up after he had jammed his shoulder
“I thought I’d be ready in two weeks, but the MRI didn’t say that. I had to deal with it," said the 21-year-old Arroyo, who is ranked No. 92 overall in 2025 by MLB Pipeline
Arroyo's MRI revealed a torn labrum in his left shoulder and the surgery that followed cost him the entire 2024 season
The plan entering last season was for Arroyo to open at Double-A Chattanooga and see what happens
the switch-hitter batted .252 with a .757 OPS
60 RBIs and 29 stolen bases over 123 games with High-A Dayton and Chattanooga
a freak injury cost Arroyo a season's worth of development
Arroyo spent the time rehabbing at the Goodyear complex with a lot of time on his hands
Arroyo often worked out and rehabbed with Matt McLain, who also had left shoulder surgery during Spring Training that cost him the whole season
both players were healthy enough to appear in some games at the Arizona Fall League
whether it was for him or for us -- just the health," Reds player development director Jeremy Farrell said
"He went out and made all the plays -- diving
Said Arroyo: “I was pleased I could just play again
In part because of his defensive prowess at shortstop, Arroyo was the player most coveted by the Reds when they acquired four prospects from the Mariners in the July 29, 2022, trade for ace Luis Castillo
Cincinnati also got third baseman Noelvi Marte and pitchers Levi Stoudt and Andrew Moore in the deal
This spring is Arroyo's second big league camp and it's a redux of last year
getting into Cactus League games most often as a sub and preparing to open the 2025 season at Chattanooga
Reds manager Terry Francona noticed that defensively
Arroyo doesn't look like someone who missed a whole year
"He looks like a guy that is extremely comfortable as a defender," Francona said
"And if I could catch the ball like that
He’s got the actions of a really good defender
He’s a really fun kid to watch though … You can’t replace 500 at-bats
Those are really important for young kids.”
One question looming over Arroyo's development since the Reds traded for him has been where he might fit on the future big league roster
already has a shortstop in Elly De La Cruz
and the club has resisted any thoughts of moving the budding superstar to the outfield
De La Cruz can also play third base but hasn't been there since his 2023 rookie year
we’re playing the same position,’ and just leave it there," Arroyo said
"It will be good if we play on the same team

While it would be nice for Seattle to take another high-quality guard or center
the team is also able to take the best player available midway through round two
This might have meant a wide receiver or a cornerback
The oddly good part of the 2025 draft is that there are few players expected to be stars
We won't know how well (or poorly) for a couple of seasons
One cannot judge a draft pick on one season
While Schneider's first draft without Pete Carroll last year was iffy, this draft he seems to be cooking. Taking Zabel in the first round was brilliant, and trading up to choose safety Nick Emmanwori in the second round was almost as good
Adding tight end Elijah Arroyo at pick 50 meant Schneider was three-for-three in the 2025 draft
He is also big enough to develop into someone who can block well
He only had 35 receptions last season with Miami
but the Hurricanes' offense was not designed well for him
That will change under Seattle's new offensive coordinator
Kubiak needs tight ends who can catch and run
Veteran Noah Fant does that but has just one season left on his contract
Seattle could even still release him and save almost $9 million
While Schneider's first draft without Pete Carroll last year was iffy, this draft he seems to be cooking. Taking Zabel in the first round was brilliant, and trading up to choose safety Nick Emmanwori in the second round was almost as good

General manager John Schneider showed consistent interest in tight ends throughout the pre-draft process
and he pounced on Arroyo's availability with a top 50 selection
Arroyo was impactful while playing alongside No
1 overall quarterback Cam Ward this past season
The athletic pass catcher recorded 35 receptions for 590 yards and seven touchdowns
Arroyo measured in at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds at the NFL Combine
Arroyo will contend for snaps immediately in Klint Kubiak's new-look offense with Sam Darnold at quarterback
The Seahawks have veteran Noah Fant atop the tight end depth chart
but he's at risk of forfeiting snaps to Arroyo and AJ Barner
Due to the talent the Seahawks possess at the position
first-year expectations should be realistic
Arroyo possesses enough athleticism as a mismatch nightmare to make the occasional big play in the passing game
but he'll probably rotate in behind Fant and Barner when all parties are available

Arroyo finally maintained a clean bill of health throughout 2024
He must carry that momentum over to his rookie campaign in Seattle
A Utah family living south of Salt Lake City is making headlines after being arrested and indicted on federal charges in connection with a scheme to smuggle crude oil from Mexico into the United States
James Jensen and his wife Kelly were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after authorities executed an arrest warrant at their $9.1 million mansion
The couple is accused of conspiring to smuggle 2,881 shipments of crude oil from Mexico
A person close to the situation who requested anonymity due to cartel involvement told KSL 5 TV that the U.S
Marshals Violent Fugitive Apprehension Team showed up at their 26,893-square-foot mansion in Sandy
District Court in Utah claim that James and Kelly Jensen
conspired to "launder proceeds from the sale of illegally imported crude oil" on behalf of Mexican criminal organizations
Records indicate that payments for the oil were funneled to businesses in Mexico believed to be controlled by drug cartels
and that James Jensen was aware of these connections
The Jensen family owns and operates a crude oil trading company in Rio Hondo, Texas, a small community about 30 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border. Federal agents raided their business
and two days later the company's website was taken offline and placed under government control
the Jensen family began laundering money and illegally importing crude oil in May 2022
Authorities allege that more than $47 million was transferred from businesses operated by James and Kelly Jensen to "Mexican businesses" during that time
the family would be required to forfeit approximately $300 million in assets
including bank accounts and their Texas-based company
Although prosecutors requested that James Jensen be held without bail due to flight risk
he was released from jail on April 25 under GPS monitoring
Kelly Jensen was also released from federal custody under conditions that included surrendering her passport
Max and Zachary Jensen appeared in federal court in Brownsville
Both are being held without bond pending detention hearings scheduled for April 29
