the Casasola reservoir in Malaga province has continued to rise during the night
provided by the Diputación provincial authority
The images captured by SUR confirm that the Campanillas has reached its maximum level and has burst its banks
It has reached the flow rate of 351 cubic metres per second at eight o'clock this morning
The Casasola reservoir is at the limit of its safeguard level
holding almost 25 million cubic hectometres
It has risen by more than 2 million cubic metres in a single night
the night was very complicated and for this reason the Junta ordered in the afternoon 368 preventive evacuations from homes and suspended classes for today in the educational centres of the Campanillas neighbourhood
the river entered at yellow level and rose until it reached red level at five o'clock in the morning
The Diputación's deputy for safety and security
in a first preview for this newspaper speaks of flooding in Almogía and some areas of Álora
the floods have cut off access to Arroyo Coche
He also pointed out that the number of incidents caused by the wind is multiplying throughout the province
they have raised the level of the reservoirs in the province to over 310 million cubic metres
And there are three other watercourses at a red alert level
The most worrying is the Guadalhorce in Cártama
which is registering almost 1,000 cubic metres per second
Also in the red are the Guadiaro at Cortes de la Frontera and the Grande at Las Millanas
the river Genal at Jubrique and the Guadalhorce as it passes through Bobadilla were at an amber alert level and
the Guadalhorce at Paredones (where the Guadalhorce irrigation canal and the one to Malaga city fork) in Archidona and the Turón at Ardales

Warnings are coming in from the Local Police of Campanillas for its citizens as the provincial government extends the ‘red’ weather alert to early Thursday
‘Stay upstairs!’ is the message from the police to residents in homes in the lower levels of the town in the face of what the meteorological office is reporting that could be an even stronger rainfall that the region suffered less than a day before
The Campanillas river, which passes by Campanillas town before flowing into the Guardalhorce and later the sea, is set to burst its banks, and with the predicted rainstorm coming in the middle of the night, it may well lead to serious flash flooding
and the Genal rivers look like they might hold out
it is predicted that the heavy rains will return in the middle of the night
Some local residents have already been temporarily rehoused until the red alert passes
but the civil protection of Campanillas suspects that some residents have decided to stay in their homes
Campanillas, barely having had time to recover from the floods two weeks before
and a heavy rainfall such as is predicted could cause the river to break its banks

The Casasola dam has not been able to keep up with the rising levels of the Campanillas river due to a clogging of the bottom outlet for releasing water
This has caused the activation of an emergency plan to evacuate 1,200 people (or 368 families) due to the risk of flooding
The relocation operation carried out around 5pm on Monday 17 March aimed to move people from the river area and parts of the Almogía district
Among the reasons behind their decision to stay were their pets and the fear of their houses being looted
The number of the actual relocated population might vary
seeing as some of the houses were already empty
classes in two Campanillas schools were suspended today: the Francisco Quevedo primary school and the Torre del Prado secondary school
The amber alert for heavy rains was active until 6am today in Ronda
the Guadalhorce Valley and the Costa del Sol and until 9am in the Axarquía
The forecasts posed the question of evacuating residents of the lower part of Alhaurín de la Torre
Preventative evacuation was caried out in the La Isla
Houses between the Casasola dam and Las Tinajas area were not evacuated due to the lower risk and their location in higher points
the government is still monitoring the roads and the bridge
Evacuation was carried out with each family's vehicle and with institutional assistance in the cases where people didn't have a car or needed mobility support
Regional minister Antonio Sanz announced that the relocation operation started in time and was carried out according to plan
resulting in quick and efficient results in the face of the amber alert
He stated that the worse rains would start around 10pm and continue until the early hours of the morning
which gave the National Police and the Guardia Civil enough time to inform people and carry out the evacuation before the activation of the alert
To not have acted would have been imprudent," said the minister
adding that people had enough time to collect their belongings
"Most people have gone to the homes of relatives
but we have also created a shelter," said Sanz
highlighting that the risk factor has not been eliminated
the city council of Malaga has set up a refuge and affiliation point in the Alfonso Queip de Llano pavilion
where assistants will take the data of the evacuees
According to Aemet (Spain's state meteorological agency)
the heaviest downpours were forecast for the early hours of Tuesday 18 March
Malaga mayor Francisco de la Torre issued a warning and said: "Prevention is better than cure." According to him
the Campanillas riverbed would accumulate between 250 and 280 cubic metres per second
several Local and National Police teams remained in the evicted areas to prevent acts of vandalism and theft
there is room for 21.72 million cubic metres in the Casasola dam - a figure that has now been exceeded
standing at 22 million cubic metres - 102% of its full capacity
There is also a buffer level of between 2 and 3 million cubic metres before a state of complete overflow
Sanz stated that the situation has been made more complicated by the dragging of vegetation
The murky waters hinder intervention by specialists
the situation had been successfully managed
but that the last rainy episode has forced a state of emergency
It simply doesn't stop raining," said Sanz

Passing the bar is a genuine once-in-a-lifetime moment
something that 2024 Bar passers Kim Campanilla
and Mark Barraquias (who finished in the Top 20 at the 18th spot) know well
The feat was a culmination of years of hard work
which is no wonder the trio of new lawyers have been nothing but euphoric since the results came out
“I was in tears because all the hard work I put in during my four years of law school finally paid off,” shares Mark in an interview with NYLON Manila in a feeling echoed by the other two soon-to-be lawyers.
what many law students and examinees go through is no joke as they hunker down with their piles of books and reviewers
in the middle of the madness was a shared sentiment that
no matter how rigorous it can get out there
you still shouldn’t lose yourself in all of it
“Commit to putting in the hours and staying disciplined
it might be time for a break—whether that means napping
or taking a walk outside for fresh air.”
as these new lawyers prepare for their next chapter
they look back on the good and the bad of their law school days as steps towards necessary character development
“Law school will humble you over and over again
and Mark below as they open up about their Bar exam experiences
Whether you’re a student trudging through law school or someone preparing to take the Bar exam in the future
I think it was because of the intense stress
and I was losing patience with everyone for no real reason
we were trained to pick ourselves up quickly and recover fast in order to perform well
Although I was incredibly nervous and could never quite feel fully prepared
I knew I had to shake off those doubts and bring my A-game during the bar
My family surprised me with cardboard cutouts of my face and custom shirts to give me a boost of energy on the first day of the exam
It also helped that many of my batchmates were taking the exam at the same testing site
WRYAN: Each exam day I had no more than two hours of sleep since I was desperately trying to finish the review material the night before
answering the exam felt like fighting two battles: one against the questions
There were many instances where I felt like passing out
so I was tempted to just finish quickly so I could rest
But I knew if I did that I would likely fail the Bar exams
So every time I would feel my body failing
and ate a few M&M’s to compose myself and “reset.” I also reminded myself that a lot of people were praying for my success and that they deserved no less than my best effort
MARK: I kept my cool on the first and second day of the exams but I was very nervous and anxious on the third exams because I knew that they were my weakest subjects
It felt like there was a raging battle inside my mind but fortunately I was able to power through
KIM: I was ecstatic—jumping and screaming for joy
It was a moment of pure happiness that I shared with my family
who had really felt my absence throughout law school and especially during bar prep
in the days leading up to the result release
Passing was like a weight being lifted off my shoulders
WRYAN: The second I saw my name on the list of passers
I guess it was a mixed feeling of relief and joy—I was able to make my family
and I was going to fulfill my dream of becoming a lawyer
though I was still sobbing and could barely put together any words
I only managed to shout “we did it” over and over.
MARK: I was in tears because all the hard work I put in during my four years of law school finally paid off
It felt good to end strong and to know that all the sacrifices were worth it
KIM: I adopted the methods that worked best for me in law school
I started by taking notes from the bar review lectures and creating my own reviewers
I focused first on subjects I hadn’t covered in law school or had forgotten
I set weekly goals to make sure I completed my first “read” of the entire syllabus
whether by sitting through lectures or reading my reviewers
I began reviewing past bar exam questions and created a document that I would use on the actual exam day
WRYAN: I’m the type of person who has trouble studying at home since I just fall asleep
I’d leave the house to study somewhere else
I had one primary review material for each Bar subject and I would finish each one before moving on to the next subject
I think a lot of people made their own notes to prepare for the exam
but after all my years in law school I knew I wasn’t the type to do that
I always preferred to read the material carefully
I also took a bit of time to visit different churches and pray
I feel that this helped ease my anxiety for the daunting task ahead.
My routine was set such that my body performed the same habits and rituals every single day until bar review almost like cogs in a clock
This routine put me in the proper condition to take the bar exams and I made sure that my peak times are also be at the same time as the exam times
I do recommend adjusting your body clock to be a morning person
Start your day early to simulate the bar exam environment
Commit to putting in the hours and staying disciplined
I made time to go out occasionally to prevent burnout and keep my sanity
I’d reward myself with a show or some light scrolling on TikTok
I used the Forest app to stay focused and avoid distractions during study sessions
WRYAN: The best strategy to prepare for the Bar is to use your own strategy
It might be tempting to employ the study methods of your peers
but if these differ from what you’re used to
It’s important to really know yourself and what makes you comfortable
you finished law school by studying a certain way
this is the best style for you so there’s no reason to change it for the Bar
Trust that the strategies and tricks that got you this far will see you through one more time.
MARK: Answer past bar exams/mock bars as if it were the bar exams
It helps me gauge my skills and whether or not I pass
Do it at least once for every subject so you would get the form right
It works wonders for everyone because by then
you would already have a template answer on how to answer bar questions
I was always aware of the challenges and the hard work involved in becoming a lawyer
I never fully understood what that meant until I experienced it myself
and that uncertainty adds to the challenge
so we were all attending classes virtually from home
I expected there would still be an ungodly amount of reading
The hours of studying were long and the next thing I knew
it was already way past midnight and I had to stop and rest
But what I didn’t expect was meeting people along the way that I could consider lifelong friends.
And yet my block found ways for us to get to know each other better and bond
we always helped each other out and collaborated on making study materials
we held virtual meetings and parties which helped ease the stress of law school
everyone from my block who took the Bar Exams this year passed it
I really didn’t expect to become this close to my classmates
Shoutout to UP Law Block E2024; we made it
I expected to barely pass law school since I knew that I did not come from a traditional pre-law undergrad
I never knew that I would be thriving in law school
I was an introvert so I didn’t think I would make a lot of friends but the people I met and their company made it worthwhile
KIM: Take advantage of your review classes
They’re an invaluable resource and will guide you through the process
Even if you’ve never prayed before or haven’t done so in a long time
The bar exam can make you believe in miracles again
Create a strict daily schedule and routine
Balance discipline with self-care to avoid burnout
WRYAN: I think the most important tip I can give to future bar takers would be to avoid “hoarding” study materials for each subject
What I mean is reading multiple books or reviewers for a single subject
but you might also encounter conflicting views that will only confuse you
only have 2 materials for each subject—one primary and one supplementary material
you can realistically finish the coverage for the exam and still have some time left to review the difficult concepts.
Another important tip is to have a life outside of review
I understand how tempting it is to go all-out with your review 24/7
You’ll burn yourself out early and won’t be in any condition to take the Bar
It’s okay to spend most of the day studying
but I suggest setting a cut-off time where once it hits
and I spent the rest of my evening doing things that I wanted to do
Don’t forget to rest so you can go again the following day
MARK: This is the time where you can become the most selfish and it’s okay because everyone is rooting for you to become a lawyer and the best way to give back is to pass the bar
So be selfish and protect your time as much as you can
knowing that you are ultimately devoting your success to your loved ones
“Anything worth doing is worth doing well.” That’s all I’ll say—focus on giving your best effort in everything you do
WRYAN: Law school is by far the most difficult thing I’ve ever done
The demands are great and you’ll have to give up so much time just to barely meet them
It’s certainly not for everyone and I’ve considered quitting a few times
But if you’re set on seeing this journey through
It’s alright to have doubts once in a while
Law school will humble you over and over again
because there will come a time when they can also help you
just enjoy the struggle because it is one of the most memorable periods of your life
The most strictest professors are your source of bar exam answers because you will remember them during your exam.
Law is a really good profession if you want to make decent money and at the same time
help others and it would really help set your mindset straight if you think of it like a job

Under the associated operation and maintenance contract
Alstom provides full operation and maintenance services for 12 years
The company is also responsible for the civil works
balance of plant and the construction of a 13km water pipeline and 5km gas pipeline
Construction began in July 2006 and was commissioned in May 2010
The plant became fully operational in February 2011
It supplies power to almost one million people in the Malaga area
The investment is needed to ensure the reliability of power supplies to the Costa del Sol
A market analysis in the early nineties resulted in a product specification for a new Alstom gas turbine
There is a low NOx EnVironmental (EV) burner
and compact annular combustor with Egatrol GT controls
The GT24/GT26 gas turbines are optimised for combined-cycle applications
They burn natural gas as a primary fuel and fuel oil as backup
The combustion system allows a wide range of natural gas compositions to burn with high Wobbe Index fluctuations
the GT24/GT26 can burn natural gas with large high-hydrocarbon content
With three rows of variable guide vanes on the compressor
the engine has an exceptional turn down ratio
Exhaust gas temperature is maintained to the HRSG
so part-load efficiencies are higher than normal for this engine class
The combination of sequential combustion and the EV burner also give the engine low emissions across a wide load range
intermediate duty and daily start and stop
There are both single shaft and multishaft arrangements
Engines have also been successfully used in repowering applications

It is also a major operator in the electricity generation and sales business in Spain
Besides the combined-cycle plant now under construction in Malaga
the company has 6,500MW of installed generating potential in combined-cycle plants worldwide
It plans or is constructing a further 1,600MW in Spain
Gas Natural operates in Malaga through its distribution company Gas Natural Andalucía
which has over 600km of distribution network supplying almost 70,000 customers in the province
As a result of the liberalisation of the Spanish energy market
the Gas Natural Group entered the electricity business
This activity includes electricity generation in Spain using combined-cycle plants
buys and sells electricity; Gas Natural Comercializadora and Gas Natural Servicios commercialise the supplies
and La Energia concentrates on cogeneration
Energy generated and sold reached 17,831GWh in 2006
This increase was due to the start-up of the 1,200MW combined-cycle plant at Cartagena and the favourable pool price
Combined-cycle generation in 2006 was 16,987GWh
That came from 400MW in Sant Adrià de Besòs (Barcelona)
1,200MW in Cartagena (Murcia) and 800MW in Plana del Vent (Tarragona)
Another 1,600MW (Port of Barcelona and Lantarón) is awaiting permit
The group entered the wind power business at the end of 2004 with the acquisition of the company Sinia XXI
the group now has over more than 700MW of wind power in operation (half attributable) and over 900MW under development

The flooding nightmare of 2020 is again looming over the Campanillas neighbourhood in Malaga city with the Junta de Andalucía ordering those living close to the banks of the river to evacuate
It comes after around 3,000 people living in properties beside the Guadalhorce river were evacuated on Tuesday 12 November
the Junta de Andalucía has ordered the same for those on the banks of the Campanillas river
which predicts torrential rain between 2-4pm
Nine Local Police patrols are helping carry out the urgent evacuation of these homes
in both directions) has been closed off to traffic
Emergency services have already been called on to help rescue a person trapped in their house in Calle Casilla del Carpinterio
police and firefighters rescued a person trapped in their vehicle
Two serious floods hit Campanillas at the start of 2020
which affected dozens of residents of the neighbourhood
the water is returning with force to its nearby streams
while the sewers are once again overwhelmed and unable to handle the amount of water
Important work is still pending to fix two areas that are heavily impacted by flood waters in Malaga province
the Campanillas river and the lower stretch of the Guadalhorce
Progress at the Campanillas river is down to private developers and urban works by Malaga cty council
the Guadalhorce project is the responsibility of central government and it is in the environmental approval stage
The Junta de Andalucía and a group of developers have reactivated the project to channel the Campanillas river
which is complex but necessary work to protect the area from flash flooding
Without the guarantee of the flood footprint being resolved
but there are important projects on the table
This is the year through which the project has begun to move forward as these plots of land are seen as an important lifeline to provide Malaga with subsidised housing
as more than 4,000 homes are planned (56% of the 7,000 homes planned for this area
It is almost five years since the Campanillas flood
but little progress has been mades since then
The Campanillas project involves a substantial investment
The main one is the channelling of the river
although recently there have been calls for a cheaper solution
one for channelling and the other for hydrology
These studies are being completed by Malaga engineering consultant Estudio 7
time is gained and work can begin on the planning of the area and cut down on the lengthy procedures for the loading of the land
This is why this agreement has been developed with the Junta
The city council is working on the Calle Adonis and Calle Cristobalina Fernández areas to reinforce the safety of the neighbourhood
A few months ago it contracted Rialsa for 1.2 million euros to build the water collection network in these streets
The aim is to carry out the necessary corrections to channel the water coming from the Pilones river
problems will also be avoided in the El Brillante neighbourhood
the council has just contracted the work to repair the Azucarera bridge
a key step to provide pace of mind to residents
industrial estate and business owners in the area
The central government project is valued at 36 million and will focus on increasing the drainage capacity of the bridges by widening the spans
The idea is also to eliminate the roundabout on the left bank and the building at the fork in the channel; to extend the existing walls of the channel both upstream and downstream
or to eliminate the platform of the old railway track
The devastating effects of the flooding of the Guadalhorce river have been noted since ancient times
From paleo-floods to recent episodes well remembered by all such as the November 1989 floods
The greatest guarantees for the lower course of the river against possible flooding are provided by the Casasola dam
inaugurated in 2000 and designed to control the flooding of the river Campanillas
and the channelling of the last seven kilometres of the course
also carried out by the then Confederación Hidrográfica del Sur (Southern Hydrographic Confederation)
The development company that proposed the construction of 7,000 homes in the area of the Campanillas neighbourhood in Malaga a few months ago is now preparing to present the Junta with a preliminary project for flood risk management to make construction and housing safe
The initiative consists of creating a floodable meadow and building a new bridge for better access to Campanillas
The draft project arrives at a crucial moment
given recent flooding and the fear in which Campanillas residents live every time there is a storm
developers led by Ángel Asenjo expressed an interest in building 7,000 new homes to attract people in the face of a housing crisis
Now that the hydrological project closely relates to this ambition
the draft will be presented to the Junta next week
Asenjo has explained that the developer has carried out an extensive analysis from the source of the Campanillas river all the way to the point where it flows into the Guadalhorce
It has established four stages of execution with an estimated cost of 60 or 70 million euros
The meeting with the Junta will decide whether the project will receive the green light or corrections will be demanded
All the general system areas adjacent to the Campanillas river will be redeveloped
Instead of a hard channeling with concrete walls; there will be earth embankments
tree planting and the naturalisation of the area," said Asenjo
will only be flooded in extreme situations
The project also includes a new access bridge to the Campanillas neighbourhood
The financing of a project of this calibre has not yet been finalised
While the Junta has not declared it to be of regional interest
the city council is hoping that the costs will be shared among the promoters
with the possibility of looking for European funding
Campanillas residents have faced three episodes of torrential rain in the last five months
The fast reaction of the city council and evacuation procedures prevented human loss
When storm Laurence hit in the third week of March
The dams couldn't handle the amount of water and the bottom spillway of the Casasola reservoir got clogged
the problem of the sluice gates requires emergency work and an extra pipe
as well as medium and long-term tasks because a third of the full reservoir is sediment
Another sleepless night for the residents of Cártama town and Malaga's Campanillas neighbourhood
In light of the relentless storms and the overflow of the Guadalhorce and the Campanillas rivers
on Monday 17 March the Local Police and the Guardia Civil evacuated dozens of people
but some residents chose to stay on higher floors of their houses
while the lower levels and garages got flooded with muddy water
The locals demanded proper maintenance of the nearby dams and regular river clean-up efforts in order for future floods to be prevented
has reminded residents of the one that they experienced in 2020
Memories of damaged movable and immovable assets have kept people awake during the past few nights
The Cártama districts areas of Doña Ana and Molino Carvajal were the worst hit
water and mud rushed into garages and houses in the areas of the main road
"It rained so much that the whole plot was flooded
We started to take the water out as best as we could
but it suddenly started to come in so fast that I already have more than half a metre in my house," she said
"It has been a very distressing time," she said
relieved that her daughter and her grandson were not there when the flooding started
They also managed to relocate their four dogs and shelter their horse
Aurora believes that the only solution and preventative measure would be to properly clean the riverbed and warn residents if the floodgates of the reservoirs are going to be opened
saying that such floods wouldn't occur if the river was maintained in a way that sedimentation and dirt wouldn't stop easy flow
He explained that locals stopped putting fruitless efforts in trying to take water out of their houses around 4am
because they "were fighting against something that was stronger"
given the "thousands of litres of water" running through the streets
Ricardo described the feeling of helplessness while watching the knee-deep water inside his house
The flood suffered in 2020 was more serious
but water has entered houses and business establishments once again this year
the most affected areas have been Calle Cristobalina Fernández and the area around the Brillante
where the river overflows and where water accumulates
this has only spared them half of the disaster
Miguel Francisco Bueno lives on Calle Cristobalina Fernández
He spent Tuesday morning trying to get water out of his garage
where up to 30 centimetres of mud had accumulated
the water came up to the roof and smashed two cars and a motorbike
at least I was able to get the vehicles out," he explained
Miguel repeated the demands of his neighbours: "The dam is the problem
because it hasn't rained enough for such floods to happen."
Marina Díaz's hairdressing salon on Calle José Calderón also suffered the consequences
even though the premises are on a fairly high pavement
"(...) the mud has stained everything," she said
Remembering the state of Campanillas in 2020
she said that she "spent the whole night watching the surveillance camera in the street to see if the water had arrived"
Tired of the lack of attention and action that institutions have demonstrated in the past
they have taken matter into their own hands
they fear that this situation will be repeated can only be alleviated once authorities have taken proper care of the dams and riverbeds
Cártama mayor Jorge Gallardo said that the river caught them off-guard
"It is the first time that it has been overflowing for so long
The level has not dropped and it has been like this for three or four hours," he said on Tuesday morning
Gallardo said that the town hall had also received calls reporting collapsed walls of houses
On Tuesday afternoon, Cártama began to see the light at the end of another dramatic episode, taking a deep breath during the respite between storm Laurence and storm Martinho. The latter is expected to arrive on Thursday, bringing more rain
There has been a night of general sleeplessness in the province caused by the passage of the high-impact storm Laurence
with wind gusts of almost 90 km/h at Malaga Airport (according to state weather agency Aemet) combined with rainfall discharges that have reached almost 100mm in several parts of the province
according to data from the Junta de Andalucía's Hidrosur network
The highest levels have once again been recorded in the westernmost area of the province
a large part of which has flowed into the La Concepción reservoir
although there is no more capacity and water is still being discharged
This is also the case with the Guadalmansa diversion dam
with 87mm accumulated in the last 12 hours
There was also significant rainfall in the upper Guadalhorce
such as Coín (77mm); the river Turón in Ardales (67) and the river Grande
the river Campanillas has overflowed its banks in the neighbourhood of the same name in Malaga city
The Guadalhorce has also flooded the lower parts of Cártama and the same is happening in Almogía
in coordination with the local councils in Malaga city and Cártama
has suspended classes in eight schools: Pablo Neruda
in Cártama; and Francisco Quevedo and IES Torre del Prado
the state of several rivers in the province
and above all the level of the Casasola dam
This already contains 25 million cubic metres
well above its designed capacity (22 million cubic metres) and is discharging large quantities into the Campanillas river
Residents in an outlying district of Malaga city have been counting the cost of extensive flood damage last weekend
council workers and locals have been working all week to get back to normal in the Campanillas area
near the technology park between the city centre and Cártama
On Saturday morning water poured into homes and garages during heavy rains across the Guadalhorce valley
Early estimates from insurers are that 6.6 million euros of damage was caused on the Costa del Sol in the freak weather
These are mostly in Campanillas but also in nearby Torremolinos
On Wednesday local officials visited damaged homes in Campanillas along with deputy prime minister
Many residents complained to the visitors that they were receiving little support and asked for more people to help out
Montero said that aid had been approved so that "families can sort out what they have lost in financial terms
[the damage] cannot be put right." She added that aid across Spain for flood victims in last week's Storm Gloria should start to be paid out this week
Two local schools remained closed all week after the Campanillas river
Officials said at a public meeting that the situation was not more serious in the Campanillas area as the Casasola reservoir dam upstream had held back the worst of the runoff water from the hills
However some residents were skeptical that the dam gates had not been opened at the peak of the storm

the son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla walked free after the Las Piñas court acquitted him of possession of illegal drugs amounting to P1.3 million
accused Juanito Jose Remulla III y Diaz is acquitted of the crime of violation of Section 11
on the ground of reasonable doubt,” read the 34-page decision of the Las Piñas Regional Trial Court Branch 197

one of Remulla’s lawyers said his client was acquitted because he was not the alleged importer of kush or high-grade marijuana
The lawyer said that the name indicated in the box that holds bags of marijuana does not identify his client
The identification stated “Jose Juanito Remulla,” instead of “Juanito Jose Remulla III.”
“Actually ‘yong ID mali pa nga ‘yong pangalan no’ng ID doon sa shipping form
Juanito Jose Remulla III,” Campanilla said
On October 14, he was charged for possession of illegal drugs before the regional trial court of Las Piñas
The younger Remulla then had an arraignment on November 4
When asked why the younger Remulla’s trial was fast
Campanilla told reporters that they followed the continuous trial guidelines for drug cases which give courts up to 75 days to resolve the entire case
Some personalities and social media users found the younger Remulla’s trial relatively swifter compared to other detainees accused of drug crimes
Many also cited the case of former senator Leila De Lima who has been detained for six years
“Bakit ang bilis natapos trial ng anak ni Remulla? Samantalang sa mga ibang drug cases in which ordinary citizens ang involved inaabot ng ilang months to years. Postpone dito, postpone doon. Nabubulok tuloy sa kulungan ang mga accused,” a Twitter user asked
“Talagang magkaiba yung hustisya para sa mayaman at hustisya para sa mahirap. Hindi natin hinuhusgahan ang guilt ni Juanito Jose Remulla III. Pero kapansin-pansin ang bilis ng trial nya at pagrespeto sa mga karapatan nya, bagay na ‘di binigay sa mga biktima ng gera kontra droga,” activist Renato Reyes Jr. said
“While Sec Boying Remulla’s son is acquitted after a lightning-quick trial, Leila de Lima is still in jail and thousands of people accused of drug crimes are similarly detained for years even before having their day in court,” anthropologist and columnist Gideon Lasco wrote
“I refuse to accept that this is ‘justice,’” he added
Former Supreme Court spokesperson Theodoro Te also noticed the expedited trial and hoped that the Muntinlupa trial court will also do the same for De Lima
“A Las Piñas trial court has acquitted an accused of drug charges in what is, by our standards, record time. Perhaps the Muntinlupa trial court can consider doing the same for the falsely accused Leila de Lima sooner rather than later. #FreeLeilaDeLimaNow,” Te said in a tweet
“Meanwhile, Senator DE LIMA has been held for years on what ‘incontrovertible’ and ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ evidence & witness testimony again!?” current affairs commentator Richard Heydarian said
despite retractions of individuals related to the allegations against her
she was acquitted in one of her three cases
