Lucas Coenen delivered a standout performance over the weekend winning his second MXGP overall on the bounce
In Portugal he secured three moto wins and continuing his impressive adaptation to the premier MXGP class
who stepped up to the 450cc machinery this year
showed maturity and composure under pressure and credited strong starts
and experience as key factors in his success
“I was lucky because in timed practice I got pole position and then I took the advantage in the qualifying race with a good start,” Coenen explained
so I passed him and it meant for Sunday I was on pole.”
That inside gate pick proved crucial on race day
as Coenen nailed two perfect starts to lead both motos from the front
I was feeling it and I was a bit scared about my line choice
three moto wins for the weekend is not bad
Adapting to the demanding conditions and the power of the 450cc bike has been a process
but one Coenen is beginning to feel more comfortable with
last year I felt horrible in these conditions
I think I feel better in these conditions with the 450cc than the 250cc
The transition to MXGP has required a shift in approach
particularly with the depth of talent in the field
I’m gaining confidence also in myself
Having good starts and leading up front with people pushing
it’s a tough class because everybody is fast
Coenen acknowledged the fierce level of competition in MXGP
where every position is fought for with intensity
“They are really consistent in the MXGP class and they never give up for position
the starts in the MXGP class are so important
it’s more important on the 450cc because everybody is so close
there are maybe ten guys from today who can get the holeshot and win and maybe I finish tenth
because everybody’s the same speed.”
Coenen also expressed pride in representing Belgium on the world stage
“It was nice last weekend that I won again since 2018 for Belgium
I didn’t know it until somebody told me
“Now we’re going for Belgium also in MX2 with my brother and Liam
Lucas Coenen is proving that he belongs among the elite in MXGP
the future looks increasingly bright for the young Belgian talent as he battles for the MXGP world title as a rookie

With Tim Gajser out injured with a shoulder injury it is all to play for in MXGP in Agueda
with Romain Febvre and Lucas Coenen seeing a huge opportunity along with Glenn Coldenhoff
Maxime Renaux got passed fit and will be behind the gate looking to gain some points and Jeffrey Herlings is coming off a race in France on Thursday with only one day’s break
The leading four in MX2 are separated by just 30 points
and a double victory at the last round saw Simon Laengenfelder close to within just three of series leader and defending Champion Kay de Wolf, while Andrea Adamo and Everts are still very much in striking distance
Lucas Coenen and Andrea Adamo ruled proceedings for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing at a muddy Agueda for the Portuguese Grand Prix and the seventh round of 2025 MXGP
The Belgian and Italian won their Qualification Heats and the difficult and demanding motos in MXGP and MX2 for an ‘orange wash’ with KTM SX-F technology
The team rolled into Agueda fresh from their double victory success two weeks previously in Switzerland where Lucas Coenen and Simon Laengenfelder triumphed in their respective categories for the first time this season
The crew were slightly apprehensive of another grim weather forecast and a repeat of the mudder from 2024
The showers poured on Saturday for the Qualification Heats
Andrea Adamo emerged from the slick mud with his second MX2 Pole Position
with Sacha Coenen in P2 and Laengenfelder obtaining points for P5
Lucas Coenen profited from his decent start to ease to another Saturday victory (his second of 2025)
Jeffrey Herlings was 2nd until a last lap slip and was then clipped by another rider and was lucky to escape injury
aside from a painful torso that affected his Sunday speed
Heavy rain in the morning flooded the track and forced a delay to the MX2 and MXGP program
Sunshine appeared in the afternoon and helped to improve the conditions but the track was still very rutted and boggy
applying a slice of fortune to the final results sheets
Lucas Coenen threaded his way through the red ooze for the holeshot and an early lead in the first MXGP race and then withheld pressure from Romain Febvre to grasp his fifth consecutive checkered flag
third GP moto win in succession and fourth of the campaign
In a drier second outing (later hit by another shower) the Belgian starlet again edged the holeshot with his KTM 450 SX-F and again led Febvre to go 1-1-1
Two weeks after becoming the youngest winner ever in the premier class
Coenen now has three podiums and is P3 in the championship
Herlings fought his way to 10th and then registered a 7th in the second moto for 9th overall and more progress considering the lack of an off-season
Sacha Coenen led for the first three laps but then a pair of crashes put him down to 19th
Adamo crafted a margin ahead of Kay De Wolf and Simon Laengenfelder
Even through the German had to ditch his goggles with ten minutes he was still able to confirm the runner-up spot nearly 13 seconds behind Adamo
The Italian holeshotted the second moto and then carefully stalked Coenen until making the pass for the lead at mid-race distance
The teammates took a 1-2 with Laengenfelder making it to the line in 4th after recovering from a first lap spill
Adamo celebrated his third victory and his fourth podium appearance from the last five events – closing to just 10 points from the peak of the MX2 table – while Laengenfelder also lifted his fourth trophy of 2025 and is only 4 points from the red plate
Coenen was 7th overall and is 6th in the standings
Another meeting for the European Championship and the EMX125 and EMX250 categories meant a further weekend of competition and learning for both the Racestore KTM Factory Rookies Team (EMX125 with the KTM 125 SX) and Gabriel SS24 KTM Factory Juniors squad (EMX250 with the KTM 250 SX-F)
Nicolo Alvisi and Aron Katona scored an impressive 1-2 in the first EMX125 moto on Saturday but the deluge of rain made the surface worse to deal with on Sunday
Alvisi was 7th for the second step of the podium while Katona DNF-ed (taking 11th overall) but still leads the championship by 26 points
Gyan Doensen raced to a 7-17 for 10th in EMX250
After a successful inauguration in 2024 with the Grand Prix of Galicia
the tight circuit in Lugo will now host the Spanish GP next weekend
EMX250 will also travel with the FIM world championship classes while EMX125 next comes to the gate in France for round nine of MXGP
1st and 1st for 1st overall in MXGP: “A really good weekend
The rain made the track so sketchy and I was all over the place but it was a positive first moto; good start and I tried to ride smart
It was hard to handle all those edges in the ruts with the 450 but we made it happen
In the second moto I managed the pressure from Romain and I was a bit nervous at times but I’m so happy to win again
10th and 7th for 9th overall in MXGP: “Yesterday we were quite hopeful until the crash in the Heat when I was thinking about pushing for the lead
I was hit by another rider and bruised my ribs and had a sore elbow
I was struggling with the ribs today and I could feel every bump
We could finish 10-7 and that’s not what we wanted from this GP but after Saturday I think it was OK
I’ll definitely be 100% for the next race and I hope to be closer to that top five.”
1st and 1st for 1st overall in MX2: “I rode well
and that put me in a good position for today
which was really important with the weather
In the first moto the conditions were crazy but the second moto was not too bad
2nd and 4th for 3rd overall in MX2: “So much mud
It was really hard to pass in the first moto
there was a lot of water and even though they worked on the track there was only one line
It was difficult but I could get Kay for 2nd
I folded the front on the first lap of the second moto and had to come from last
I had a good feeling on the bike though and unfortunately I ran out of tear-offs which made overtaking a challenge
19th and 2nd for 7th overall: “Better than the last GP
We made quite a lot of changes to the set-up of the bike in the last two weeks and I was feeling good on Saturday
I had a comfortable lead in the first moto but just jumped a little off track and got stuck in a mud pile
Andrea was a bit faster today but P2 is more of what we need.”
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: “I’m really
really proud of this win and career milestone for Andrea
When he came into the team we could see that he has a lot of heart and is a hard worker and after winning the championship then having a difficult year and to come back and do well in this season I cannot be prouder
In MXGP we know that these conditions can see Jeffrey Herlings in ‘beast mode’ but we have to understand that he is not there yet to ride at his full potential
I am confident that we are not far away and we will be fighting for podiums soon.”
Jeffrey Herlings was closing the gap to leader Lucas Coenen in the final couple of laps of a muddy MXGP qualifying race in Agueda when it all went wrong
Herlings got cross-rutted and fell over the brow of the hill
as Herlings scrambled to get back to his bike
Romain Febvre collided with Herlings knocking the Dutchman over and crashing himself
Febvre eventually took third with Herlings seventh as Coenen took the win
*update Herlings has now posted an injury update saying he has a suspected broken ribs but will try and ride tomorrow! More here
it was a tough moto and a good start was key
It was Simone Mancini who got the holeshot on his Fantic and he was looking superb pulling out a big lead at the front of the field
The three championship contenders all started pretty much together outside the top five but they were able to make quick passes
It was Reisulis who was on the move – he didn’t seem to mind the conditions
there was a ten seconds gap to cut down to Mancini
was able to catch him and took an impressive win
Bobby Bruce was riding well but had a crash when he was in fourth – hopefully he is okay
Garcia and Zanocz were able to get back to third and fourth respectively
Nico Greutmann had a crash when he was in third so got demoted down to fifth
Billy Askew had a solid ride to bring home tenth
Race Two: There was a downpour just before the start of the race which saw conditions the toughest they’ve been all weekend
Janis quickly got himself to the lead and started to pull away at the front in brutal conditions – but he had two crashes – he could still manage to win though
The Latvian said he actually dislocated his shoulder in the first crash so was just trying to survive after that but still won
Noel Zanocz managed three crashes but still finished second on his JM Honda machine
Nico Greutmann was second and was on for a podium but had to stay there – he ended up crashing which allowed Zanocz into second
Garcia rode solid for fourth with Adrien Petit rounding out the top five
Bobby Bruce was in the top three at the start but eventually ended up twelfth with Billy Askew having issues which meant a DNF
MXGP qualifying race: It was a pretty chaotic MXGP qualifying race
Romain Febvre was leading the way around the first corner but then had a small tip over a couple of corners later dropping him down the order
That allowed Lucas Coenen to get into the front and he rode a controlled
Herlings was second and it looked like a 1-2 for KTM but then he cross rutted on the final lap and crashed – Febvre then hit Herlings as he couldn’t avoid him
Vlaanderen ended up a strong second with Febvre bringing home a third position
Kevin Brumann had the race of his life to bring home an amazing fourth after Kevin Horgmo also crashed on the last lap
Despite miserable conditions and an extremely difficult track
at just 18 years old who delivered perfect riding in both motos to take the MXGP win and underline
that he is now a threat for this title with Tim Gajser still out injured
Coenen controlled both motos despite the conditions and the ever present presence of Romain Febvre who didn’t let Coenen run away
but when push came to shove it was Coenen who didn’t make any mistakes showing calmness under pressure that belies his age
Romain Febvre still had a good day and now takes the red plate
and both riders were the class of the field all weekend once Jeffrey Herlings hit the deck on Saturday
Herlings battled through the pain of a suspected broken rib to go 10-7 for ninth overall with a small crash while sixth ending his hopes of a top five
but it was Ruben Fernandez who delivered the podium on Sunday with two great rides keeping Honda shining brightly despite a tough couple of weeks
43 points behind Febvre in the championship
didn’t expect it coming in with the mud
then I think he made a mistake and the last lap was the best of the whole weekend (pressure free).”
In MX2 Andrea Adamo blitzed both motos in a brilliant ride
and the Italian might just be in better form than he was when he won the world championship in 2023
Sacha Coenen led moto one until he got stuck in the mud and Adamo controlled the race
making the pass and controlling the gap until the chequered flag to move withing striking distance of Kay de Wolf and Simon Längenfelder in the world championship standings
De Wolf came away with second overall but it came down the the last lap of race two after Längenfelder came from
a turn two crash to almost catch De Wolf for third
a pass would have given the German second overall but he had to be content with third overall on the same points as the reigning world champ
Längenfelder and Adamo for the MX2 world title after Liam Everts had an uncharacteristic disaster in the mud
crashing numerious times in moto one after a good start and getting stuck in the mud and another costly DNF
Everts is now 59 back of De Wolf in fourth
the DNF’s in Arco and Agueda have really affected his championship aspirations
Romain Febvre set the pace in MXGP over Glenn Coldenhoff and the impressive Kevin Horgmo
Ruben Fernandez was fourth with Calvin Vlaanderen rounding out the top five
Lucas Coenen was sixth with Jeffrey Herlings in sixth but the times are close
Sacha Coenen set the pace over Honda HRC rider
Kay de Wolf was third fastest on his Nestaan Husqvarna over his team mate
Simon Laengenfelder rounded out the top five but the times are super close
Liam Everts was leading the way but then crashed on the first lap – followed by two more crashes
That allowed Sacha Coenen to get to the lead and he had a massive lead but then went over the bars
That saw Adamo in the lead but he had De Wolf for company and Längenfelder as all three were close
that allowed Adamo to get away and the Italian ended up comfortably bringing it home for the win
De Wolf and Längenfelder were going at it the whole race and on the final lap
after de Wolf made a mistake the German was able to take second
The championship battle is well and truly on
Quentin Prugnieres didn’t mind the tough conditions as he finished a superb fourth after Mathis Valin had a small tip over but he still salvaged sixth with Rick Elzinga strong for fifth
Liam Everts was able to finish eleventh despite all the crashes
Race Two: Coenen had the early lead and was riding well on his Factory KTM
Adamo was sat in second and never let the gap get over thee seconds
The Italian then caught and passed Coenen to win – the perfect weekend going 1-1-1 for his fifth GP overall win
Coenen stayed up right and brought home second
Längenfelder had got a good start and then went down
The German was on a real charge as he came from last to fourth and was right on de Wolf on the last lap
The world champion did hold on for third though
Valin had a strong ride for fifth on his GP return ahead of Cas Valk
There’s now only ten points between the top three riders – an exciting time in the championship chase
Race One: Lucas Coenen and Romain Febvre both got away at the front and were a similar pace – they weren’t ever really separated more than three seconds
Febvre did make a move but the young Belgian read it like a book and managed to pass him straight back
Febvre had too much to do on the last lap and Coenen brought home another impressive race win
Ruben Fernandez rode a very lonely third position ahead of the returning Pauls Jonass
Brian Bogers was actually running third but had a bizarre crash which looked like he dislocated his shoulder but he still picked up points in eighteenth
Maxime Renaux was outside the top twenty on the first lap but rode an amazing race for fifth on his Factory Yamaha – he wasn’t even going to race
Glenn Coldenhoff went down at turn one but came back from last to eighth
Herlings didn’t look as comfortable as yesterday and is most likely riding in a pain but came home tenth
Race Two: The second moto was very similar to race one with Coenen leading the way and not only having to deal with a tough track but also having to deal with Febvre behind him pretty much the whole race
Coenen stayed calm and had a superb race to have the perfect weekend in his second MXGP overall win – impressive
Febvre now has the red plate and has a 25 points gap over Gajser
Fernandez had a good ride for third to get back on the box
Vlaanderen had a better moto for fourth with Bonacorsi rounding out the top five
Mano Faure set the pace during free practice in Agueda which is dry for the moment
The MJC Yamaha rider was seven tenths faster than Aron Katona who is in control of the championship
Nicolo Alvisi was third fastest with Gennaro Utech fourth and Filippo Mantovani rounding out the top five
Cole McCullough was sixth fastest ahead of Francesco Bellei
Fingers crossed the conditions stay dry over the weekend

the premier class championship is currently led by Tim Gajser (Honda HRC)
The Slovenian has 305 points but will not be competing in the MXGP of Portugal due to injury
This leaves him vulnerable to second-placed Romain Febvre (Kawasaki)
Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull KTM) took a commanding win in Frauenfeld
he arrives in Portugal second in the standings
just three points behind the reigning champion and current leader
The Águeda track will also host two European championships: EMX250
led by Janis Reisulis (Team VHR VRT Yamaha); and EMX125

“There’s a lot of work to be done–and it’s nice that at this time
we’re seeing the work that should’ve been done many years ago actually finally being done,” said Agueda Johnston Middle School’s acting Principal Lisa Paulino
a former student and now acting Principal said the Guam Department of Education's multi-million-dollar overhaul is the first major upgrade for the school built in the 1960s
which includes roof coating and electrical upgrades,” said Nikolas Cruz
Capital Improvement Project Program Manager.
Agueda’s upgrades come with a $9.5 million price tag
funded by the $125 million American Rescue Plan
But Cruz admits he would’ve liked to see more work included.
“I mentioned the contract isn’t perfect–of course
exterior painting is one of the major things I would’ve liked to see as part of this project
a replacement of all perimeter fences and gates
interior and exterior lights–but of course
that comes with a major price tag,” said Cruz
And while construction continues during school hours
Paulino explains how they’re keeping children out of harm's way.
“Core Tech has been wonderful–they set up all the barriers
we have spotters on sight to watch and guide them
The kids have been as cooperative as middle schoolers can be,” said Paulino.

There are definitely worse things to be known for than holding the world record for both the largest and the smallest Santa Claus
It is certainly a great way to put a town on the map as one of THE Christmas destinations to visit
kids and adults alike would love to see a Santa Claus the size of a seven-storey building
Not only is the giant Santa Claus an impressive 21 metres tall (yes
but it is adorned with over 250,000 vibrant LED lights that twinkle and shine
It is no wonder then that it has become known as an iconic symbol of the town
While the town may have quite a small population
it has taken the phrase ‘go big or go home’ to a whole new level
this colossal Santa Claus can be seen from
At the other end of the spectrum, Águeda, not content with one Santa Claus-related world record, also holds another one. This time, for the world’s smallest Santa Claus, thanks to the help of British artist Willard Wigan
it is so small that it has been created to fit in the eye of a needle
As well as a mini-sculpture of the ‘big’ man himself, the intricate design also features a decorated Christmas tree
complete with Santa appearing to be climbing down the inside edge of the needle to leave a gift taken from the sack he carries over his shoulder
so I thought I would make a gift to the world of the world’s smallest Father Christmas.”
For those wishing to view this mini-marvel
It is open Tuesday through Friday between 10.00am and 1.00pm
and on weekends between 10.00am and 8.00pm
