The Kentucky Derby and all the associated events for one of the biggest horse races of the year went down at Churchill Downs in Louisville
It was the 151st time people gathered there and wore giant hats to watch horses running around a track
As far as the action on a rain-soaked mess of a track went, Sovereignty beat the favorite Journalism to take home the title of Kentucky Derby winner
there was controversy brewing on social media over a TikTok star's attire

Influencer Gabriela Moura was hit with claims of wearing "inappropriate" and "revealing" attire to the prestigious events at the track over the weekend

Moura shared a video of herself getting ready with the caption "i'm so excitedddddd" and was met with a ton of dress code police standing up for the integrity of the Kentucky Derby.
They went after her for her cleavage revealing dress
Here's the video that started the Kentucky Derby attire controversy
The self-appointed experts on what is acceptable and unacceptable to wear at the Kentucky Derby had this to say about Moura's slightly revealing outfit
Gabriela Moura caught wind of the criticism from her day one clothing choice and decided to defend herself
There's a perfectly good reason for the dress she wore
and it wasn’t to get a ton of unwanted attention
her big boobs are showing up at the event along with her
but you're essentially boob shaming and nobody in their right mind is going to stand for that
"I'm getting ready for Kentucky Derby day two, and I saw a couple comments on my last video," Moura started off her defense with. "I don't know if you're going to misunderstand what I'm saying in this video, but big boob girls are going to understand what I'm saying."
I don’t know about you, but so far I'm following along perfectly fine. I heard "big boob girls" and there's something about that that gets your attention. Anyway, let's get back to the defense of her Kentucky Derby dress.
"Girls with big boobs, there's no way to hide it, like honestly," she continued. And more importantly, why would anyone want you to hide them? Sorry for interrupting again.
"There's so many dresses that I love that if I put people are going to be like ‘Wow, she’s vulgar'… But I just can’t do anything about the boobs and I don't want people to understand this video wrong and say ‘Why is she complaining?’ I'm not."
Moura pointed out that sometimes people think she wears certain items for attention, but that isn't true. She just happens to like the piece of clothing. Not everyone wears low-cut tops for attention.
She knew that her day two dress was going to get negative attention like her day one dress did, but she didn’t have any options. The influencer with more than 11 million TikTok followers said, "There's nothing I can do. I'm not doing a surgery."
Nice try. Gabriela Moura isn’t changing anything. She's going to wear what she likes and defend her big boobs whenever the critics come knocking. That's certainly a cause worth fighting for.

Both players had never won any silverware before in their senior club careers despite spending several years at Tottenham, and the wait finally ended on Sunday.
Bayern Munich clinched the Bundesliga title after Bayer Leverkusen failed to win their game against Freiburg at the Mooswaldstadion.
Kane had been dreaming of winning silverware for a long, long time, and he can finally call himself a champion in Germany.
Many of his old Spurs teammates are delighted for him.

Tottenham have gone over 17 years without winning any silverware
Spurs have had several incredible players and managers in that period
Kane came close on a couple of occasions when he was at Tottenham
most notably in the final of the Champions League in 2019
Losing that game was clearly painful for the striker
and the fact that he lost two finals with England as well made things even more difficult
In the summer of 2023, Kane left Tottenham and joined Bayern Munich with the dream of finally ending his trophy drought
and his old teammates are thrilled for him
Under his Instagram post, his old Spurs pal Lucas Moura wrote: “You deserve it
Erik Lamela added: “Congrats Harry !
Everyone knows how good Harry Kane was when he was at Tottenham
The Englishman was by far Spurs’ best player during his time in North London
and he is the reason why they finished in respectable positions in the table more often than not
it became clear to Kane that winning big trophies was unlikely at Tottenham
Kane has finally fulfilled his dream of winning a trophy
and his social media uploads show that he is absolutely delighted
What would make him even happier is to see his beloved Tottenham win silverware too – and that’s possible this season

Brazilian actor Wagner Moura has done his fair share of weighty
and brand-new series Dope Thief is no different
Known for his portrayal of Pablo Escobar in Narcos and excellent performance as war journalist Joel in A24’s Civil War
Moura now pulls both laughs and tears from his audience as Manny
premiered on Apple TV+ earlier this month and depicts the trials and tribulations of two small-time criminals whose exploits quickly spiral out of control
Moura discusses the complexities of the Dope Thief world and his time filming the show below

You are no stranger to playing complex characters in high stakes situations
with Narcos and Civil War among your past projects
How was Dope Thief different?I think what makes Manny very different from Civil War’s Joel and Narcos’ Pablo Escobar is that he doesn’t want to be in a high-stakes situation
Joel is a combat journalist addicted to war and Pablo is the most notorious drug dealer of all time
Manny is just another latino immigrant that grew up being told he doesn’t value much
Ray and Manny are two adults that behave as teenagers
as if they are frozen at age sixteen when they were incarcerated for the first time
Manny is not good at what he does like Joel and Pablo; he doesn’t want to be there

What draws you to these kinds of intense stories and characters? The character is always the most important thing
What does this character reveal about myself
I also like to see the political aspects of a character’s universe
What am I going to learn with this particular social-political project
You’ve described Manny as someone in search of escape
How did you approach bringing that internal struggle to life?Manny is like a Greek Tragedy character that walks blindly to a tragic fate
He tries everything to stop the cycle of violence he sees himself engulfed in - religion
his devotion to Sherry. I have a profound love and empathy for him
Blue Blazer by BrioniWhite Trouser by BrioniStriped Shirt by BrioniTie by BrioniWatch by IWC Schaffhausen
What was the most challenging part of portraying Manny?Ridley Scott and Peter Craig called me on a Friday and asked me to be on set filming on Monday
My natural instinct was to say no; I’ve always taken preparation very seriously
But at the same time I’d been wanting to experiment a looser approach
So I went to Philadelphia to play Manny with that loose mindset; to show up
The first week was harder because Ridley shoots very fast
but I prepared my mind not to suffer and enjoy the ride
On week two I was already understanding Manny
Did you and Brian Tyree Henry do anything off-set to build that chemistry? When I first met him in person we were already walking to the set as Ray and Manny
looked into his eyes and said: “my name is Wagner
etc…” It was a really cool moment and we then returned to set to shoot the very first scene of the show which is Ray and Manny in the van.

Do you see any parallels between themes of desperation and systemic struggle in the show and your incredible work as an advocate against forced labor in real life? Many people caught up in slave labor are not even aware of their situation
People that don’t know their rights nor their value as human beings
Dope Thief’s main characters are victims of a system that kills and incarcerates mostly Black and Latino men
These characters’ self-esteem is so low they think this is the fate they deserve
How was it to work with Ridley Scott?Extraordinary
He’s even more a hero of mine now that I know him
It’s been mentioned that to unwind from the intensive filming process
Do you have a favorite spot that you encountered while doing so?Brian loves this city called New Hope
and have ice cream at a place called Moo Hope
What would be your dream role?I played Hamlet on stage almost twenty years ago
That was my dream role since I was fifteen
I now don’t think I still have a dream role
but am always looking for dream processes where you can develop your character in a safe and creative environment with people you admire and love; while taking away beautiful memories

tragedy and health setbacks to chase Milano Cortina 2026 dreamThe Brazilian cross-country skier opens up about battling adversity and her determination to reach the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games
in this exclusive interview with Olympics.com
yet just a day after her quota was confirmed
she contracted COVID while training in Obertilliach
That in itself was enough of a blow for Moura
who had to quarantine for 10 days while missing vital final preparations for what was set to be her Olympic debut
Once she finally recorded several negative tests
she needed to travel across the German border to Munich
where the Brazilian would board a flight to the Chinese capital
Getting to Munich added another hurdle – Moura had to get there by herself – and in the end
she booked a taxi-van to traverse the 250km journey across the Alps and into Bavaria
despite sustaining severe injuries: eight fractures throughout her body
She was unable to walk without aid for two months
Moura chose to sit in the back of the van that day having just recovered from COVID
and it proved to a minor decision that kept her alive
“I can’t forget these three years because they changed my life,” Moura told Olympics.com in January 2025
“I saw everything I fought for slipping away from me
and now is the chance to take it all back.”
Moura embarked on a painful and taxing journey to be able to return to the sport
She spent 18 months in physiotherapy and psychological trauma support
needing to heal physically and emotionally from the devastating accident
Moura managed to compete at the 2023 Nordic Ski World Championships in Planica
Picture by Arquivo PessoalThe cross-country athlete then decided it was best to return to where it all started: her home comforts in Brazil
to compete in the São Carlos roller skiing season
Moura had to stop competing due to cardiac problems which led to intensive heart surgery and a long time away from exercise
Just as she was preparing for a return to the snow in 2024
the 30-year-old contracted a parasitic infection called toxoplasmosis
The recovery ruled her out of her intended comeback season in 2023-24
and even resulting in a 25% loss of her vision
“I don’t know how to say it without sounding bad,” Moura dwells before firmly declaring
So much has happened that I need it to work out now”
On her second attempt to return to European competition
the return to training was brought to a holt by the sudden passing of one of her close childhood friends back in Brazil
Moura spent a year away from competitive roller skiing before a long-awaited comeback to the snow in November 2024
However, on her first action of the competition during qualification, Moura blacked out at the end of the opening lap and did not manage to finish the race.

her Olympic dream brought hope and meaning

“I don’t know whether I can continue skiing with the pain in my feet
Cross-country skiing at Milano Cortina 2026 will be held at the Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium in Val di Fiemme
These Games already hold enough significance for Moura
defining what has been an inspirational journey to never give up and fight through every hurdle that life presents
what makes Milano Cortina even more meaningful for the Brazilian skier is the location
Her crash in 2022 occurred near the Italian city of Obervintl
which is around 90km away from where the Olympic cross-country events will take place
From the place where she almost lost her life

Handing over the reins is a challenge for any family enterprise
For Baterias Moura it became an opportunity to unite family and employees
Succession planning unlocked a new management structure at Baterias Moura and united its growing number of family stakeholders
The remarkable rise of battery manufacturer Baterias Moura is a South American success story
From its beginnings in a remote town with just a single car and no power or running water
Baterias Moura has risen to become one of Brazil’s most improbable triumphs
A dream that began as a backyard project for chemical engineers and dynamic husband and wife team
is an unprecedented success 65 years later
the firm they founded is the leading manufacturer of car batteries in South America
producing 10 million units a year and employing 6,500 employees
The firm has achieved international renown
putting the small town of Belo Jardim in north-eastern Brazil on the map and collecting a stack of awards for the supply of batteries to many of the world’s leading automotive brands
But success also came with its own challenges
who were responsible for establishing the firm’s international reputation for reliability and quality
were concerned that the transition to a new generation was fraught with risk
While their father’s wish was for his grandchildren to run the business on a day-to-day basis
Pedro and Edson and son-in-law Paulo Sales
With a growing family between them that today numbers 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren
they considered whether the outcome could be “chaos.”
although just one in 10 worldwide survives to the third generation
and the third generation ruins it” goes the saying
while in Brazil there is a similar expression: “Rich father
but in the knowledge that many family business failures take place after the handover to a new generation
the Moura family turned to EY to negotiate a new path
With the company’s third generation also spanning a 24-year age range
Baterias Moura’s four business leaders reached a bold decision
The next generation would be prohibited from taking up roles in the day-to-day management of the company
as the time to begin the transition approached
the firm called on EY to help the generations work together as family board members
while granting the firm’s management team greater autonomy
In developing the collective governance skills of the next generation
the Moura family also empowered a trusted team of employees
The EY Family Enterprise DNA Model pinpoints the key areas of focus for family enterprise leaders to achieve their personal and business ambitions
“We knew it wasn’t possible for us to make the transition to the new generation happen by ourselves
the Chairman of the manufacturing company’s board
EY Consumer Products & Retail leader for Latin America
Succession planning is often overlooked in family business discussions because of the sensitivity of the subject matter
EY ensured all discussions among the wider family group were handled discretely and carefully
There are often family taboos and topics that are difficult to discuss,” says Mariana Moura
a third generation family member and leader of the Family Council in the firm
and now a consultant on family business governance
“Family members can easily become concerned about a loss of power and it can be challenging emotionally
but you need to persevere and move on,” she says
A three-step approach was developed and executed by EY to facilitate the transition
This included educating and involving younger family members
building a new corporate governance structure
Younger family members were provided with training in how to enhance the purpose
performance and long-term value of the company
to be prepared to take on board leadership roles in the future
the firm also developed a new corporate governance structure with three boards
including one each for the firm’s manufacturing and distribution businesses
as well as a Board of Shareholders and a Family Council
As part of the new corporate governance model family members were ruled out of management roles
This opened up a new array of career options for the third generation
enabling them to pursue their chosen careers
rather than be obliged to join the family business
The change has subsequently seen family members achieve considerable professional success in their chosen professions including medicine
the finance and credit industry and dentistry and psychiatry
“If you’ve grown up with the expectation of working in the family business
it’s liberating to be able to choose your own career,” Mariana says
“It changed our outlook and left us free to become more flexible as individuals and to develop a common vision of the future as a group.”
Manuela Moura da Fonte led the development workstream for the family as coordinator of the education committee
Now a coordinator of the firm’s People and Culture committee and a member of both business boards
“I knew it was important to create a sense of belonging and an integration with the company and EY was incredibly valuable and impartial
because in the decision-making process you have to understand different perspectives from differing generations.”
To align on a combined vision for the future
the family’s younger members also joined together with members of the second generation in a strategic project called Moura 2030
This project set out to anticipate the future of the business
its products and its evolving governance model
including the transition to the electrification of transport and the development
manufacture and marketing of lithium batteries
four members of the third generation sit on the firm’s business boards as well as leading two committees that support the boards
now a managing partner in one of Brazil’s leading law firms
“In some ways we were lucky because our founders were not centralizing people,” she says
“One of the advantages of the culture at Moura is that we’re very good at working in teams on all levels.”
By detaching the founding family from day-to-day management
Baterias Moura encouraged a wider sense of belonging amongst its employees
“In making the transition to the future and the third generation
we wanted to share what Baterias Moura had accomplished and encourage a culture where the company not only belongs to family members
“We wanted to create a core value of an ‘ownership spirit’
A structure where everyone thinks as owners
Once you put our logo on a battery it stops being a commodity
It has 65 years of history and everybody involved with the company contributes to what the firm is now,” he adds
the family firm often leads the lists of the longest lived and most successful family enterprises
And although the transition to the third generation isn’t yet complete
the evolution to a new governance model has had a positive impact on Baterias Moura’s bottom line
Revenue has increased six-fold over the past 14 years reaching R$2 billion (US$380m) in 2021
“We’ve been able to make everyone with the brand transmit what Moura is about
“It took us 20 years to educate and prepare the professionals from within the company to become the current managers
who were all hired when they were very young at 22 and 23 years old
We trained them and now they run the business very well.”
Baterias Moura has a management team that knows the company and how the business is run and family members who hold the values and the long-term business strategy
It makes me very optimistic about the future,” says Sérgio

Apple TV+ stars Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura explain why their violent show breaks away from stereotypes
If you were to judge “Dope Thief” based on its logline about two men posing as DEA agents
you would expect a very specific type of high-octane show
Peter Craig’s new Apple TV+ original does offer excellent action scenes and delivers them in spades
But it also tells its story with a degree of empathy and vulnerability rarely seen in the world of crime dramas
“One thing about the show I really like is the fact that it’s a violent show with a Latino and a Black man in a drug dealing thing
but they are not the stereotype of the action tough guys,” series star Wagner Moura told TheWrap
“They are very vulnerable people who were caught up in this cycle of violence
and got caught up in the system since they were 15.”
“Dope Thief” revolves around Ray (Brian Tyree Henry) and Manny (Moura)
two friends who met while they were incarcerated
their scheme is simple: pose as DEA agents and rob low-level drug dealers
it’s a win-win scenario; the duo walk away with money and drugs
and the criminals are scared straight without having to face any legal consequences
But when Ray and Manny rob a large narcotics operation
they quickly realize they are in over their heads
The rest of the incredibly tense series follows the two as they scramble to try and save themselves and their loved ones
But what makes “Dope Thief” distinct is how Ray and Manny respond to their plight
There’s very little bravado from either of them
both men act exactly how you would expect real people to act if a drug lord was hunting them down
both because they are the only ones who understand this new hell and because they are best friends
this is sort of like a romance,” Moura
known for his roles in “Narcos” and “Mr
the intimacy that makes this show feel so original and human was not written on the page but was found during filming
“You had to feel like there was this true kinship
real friendships have no boundaries,” Henry explained
I remember going to [Wagner Moura] being like
Henry and Moura pulled from their characters’ backstories
“What about those moments when they were 15-years-old and in these cells and the lights went out at night
What if [Ray] heard [Manny] crying down the hall?” the “Atlanta” star explained
“I was thinking about those elements of meeting a friend for the first time
That kind of childlike nature never left the two of them
Henry credited Craig for giving him and Moura “room” to explore those moments
“We were able to remove that blanket of shame in having these two friends
these two men who went through such an extreme situation their lives
look to each other for tenderness,” Henry said
The relationship that appears on screen is also a reflection of the level of respect these actors have for each other
he’s more interested in tackling projects based on the people involved as well as what he will learn along the way
which is Brian’s friendship,” Moura said
“I connected immediately with him.”
“I’m still in shock that I was able to sit across from Wagner every single day and be in a van with him
“I’m still in awe and so grateful that this show allowed that and created that space.”
there are many other reasons why Henry was drawn to this project
from the fact this marks the first time he’s the true lead of a show to his executive producer credit
But one of the aspects of “Dope Thief” that excited Henry the most was the role of Ray
I had been reaching this impasse with doing TV because TV was a little hard
I did not feel like I occupied a space that felt genuine,” Henry admitted
there was something that really made me feel connected in a very scary way
I believe it was a spiritual thing that was like
It’s time for you to really lay this out
It’s time for you to open up’ … I never thought that anyone would write a character — let alone a Black man — facing these struggles and facing these obstacles

The “Atlanta” and “Narcos” stars come together for a suspenseful crime thriller set in the Philadelphia drug underworld
Descriptions of the Apple TV+ series “Dope Thief” as a “drug ring drama” are not exactly accurate
it revolves around small-time crooks and friends Ray and Manny posing as DEA agents to rob equally small-time drug dealers
But it’s Manny and Ray’s relationship that matters most
and an anonymous drug kingpin determined to recoup his loss puts a bounty on their heads
Becoming targets for the DEA doesn’t help either
Adapted from crime author Dennis Tafoya’s 2009 debut novel by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Craig (“The Batman,” “Top Gun: Maverick”)
who also serves as executive producer along with the iconic Ridley Scott
character drives the Philly-set “Dope Thief.” Oscar nominee Brian Tyree Henry and Golden Globe nominee Wagner Moura
better known for their roles as Paper Boi in “Atlanta” and Pablo Escobar in “Narcos,” respectively
infuse so much emotion and easy chemistry into their roles as inseparable best friends who’ve been trauma bonded since juvie
Neither hails from a stable home background
does have a mother figure in his incarcerated father’s loyal girlfriend Theresa whom he calls Ma despite her being white and him being Black and him hating his father
Ray is the big brother and ringleader while Moura
When it comes to Sherry (“Blink Twice” newcomer Liz Caribel Sierra)
But his fierce loyalty to Ray is a source of great tension for them
Deeply scarred emotionally by his father handled more than ably by Ving Rhames
Ray can’t forget his father physically abusing his birth mother
or look past his refusal to take accountability for his many wrongs
he is completely unnerved by how smitten Ma
portrayed effectively by “Orange Is the New Black” star Kate Mulgrew
still is with Bart and how determined she is to bring him home
Mulgrew stretches Ma beyond the trope of the blindly devoted white woman who loves the troubled Black man through all his many unforgivable faults
Bart does seem to reward her faith by showing glimpses of remorse for deeply damaging his son
while momentarily stepping up as the protector Ray always needed him to be
There are other notable performances as well
perhaps better known as “Sneaky Pete” star Julia Bowman
is an intense presence as undercover DEA agent Mina whose commitment to justice and
drives the law and justice element of “Dope Thief” and also helps tie up all the loose ends
Veteran actor Dustin Nguyen (“21 Jump Street,” “VIP” and “Warrior”) is equally commendable as Son Pham
the wiser criminal on whom Ray often leans on
who has also built a cozy life as a family man despite his dangerous occupation
“Kemba” and “See” star Nesta Cooper’s Michelle
not only becomes useful to Ray as he begins to navigate his own legal challenges
but also reignites the romantic sparks he lost when his first love Marietta (Kaci Walfall)
Although “Dope Thief” is very tense and suspenseful with great acting to spare and a natural inclusiveness with his Black
It’s very heavy NYC hip-hop when Philadelphia has a great musical lineage
it doesn’t reflect Ray’s eclectic musical taste which includes rock and pop
The story isn’t always clear in early episodes
with flashbacks adding more confusion than clarity
Ray’s choice not to leave town in the face of such grave danger also doesn’t make sense
While the plot gets quite interesting towards the end
the series would have been better served by weaving in some of those elements earlier instead of trying to cram it all in so late
Ray and Manny’s chemistry is what keeps viewers invested in this wild rollercoaster of a story that manages to be quirky and intense
as well as heartbreaking with an unexpected
“Dope Thief” premieres March 14 on Apple TV+

Several hours later, Venus arrived at the anchorage and seemingly misjudged the length of the chain that Lady Moura had in the water."
The statement continued: "Subsequently, a violent squall with winds of 50-55 knots from an unexpected direction – different from the prevailing forecasts – caused the impact. Despite numerous efforts by Lady Moura's crew to alert the Venus’ crew by blowing the whistle and hailing on the radio, it appears that the bridge of the Venus was unmanned. Neither vessel dragged anchor."

It then concluded that damages to both yachts were minimal and cosmetic and that the situation was "amicably and professionally" resolved.
This follows an update provided by a "source close to the matter" last week (7 August) which confirmed that a sudden change of wind led to the collision. It added that "the wind changed very suddenly, picking up from a breeze to 55 knots over the course of a few minutes. Neither boat dragged anchor, though the other boat [Lady Moura] was on a chain double the length expected in the depth of water they were in."
Footage taken by Ricardo Salinas - Mexican businessman and Lady Moura's owner – shows the collision take place. The video was released by Salinas on 7 August.
In the video's caption, Salinas has claimed that the crew of Venus were at fault, saying in Spanish: "I would like to know what the captain and crew were doing that they didn't see a yacht the size of mine in front of me. Good thing nothing but a scratch happened, but it's a big scratch that's going to [cost] a lot to fix."
Lady Moura was launched in 1990 and sold most recently in 2021, with a last known asking price of $125,000,000.
Venus was commissioned by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, though he never had the chance to see the yacht completed before his untimely death in 2011. She was delivered to widow Laurene Powell Jobs in 2012 and has been used privately ever since.

Flyweight Eduarda Moura Reacts With UFC.com After Her Unanimous Decision Win Over Veronica Hardy At UFC 309: Jones vs Miocic In New York City On November 16
Jon Jones defended his UFC heavyweight title with a stunning victory over Stipe Miocic on Saturday
before pledging to continue his extraordinarily successful MMA career
dropped Miocic with an incredible spinning back kick in the third round of their fight at New York’s Madison Square Garden in his first defense of the heavyweight title
He said afterwards that he had “decided not to retire” — opening the door to lucrative bouts against the likes of British challenger Tom Aspinall and reigning light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira
Miocic, on the other hand, confirmed he was walking away from the sport after his defeat
President-elect Donald Trump was in attendance to watch Jones beat Miocic

Dana White turn UFC 309 into personal election party
Eduarda Moura defeats Veronica Hardy via unanimous decision
Veronica Hardy is continuing to circle her way into trouble and she eats another straight right
Eduarda Moura can remain on the back foot for the time being
she knows Hardy is the one who must force the issue
But those won’t be enough to win this fight
She then turns it up in the final few seconds but is unable to land anything meaningful
I think she did enough to nick that final round but not the result
“You need to go on the offensive,” Veronica’s husband
“You are so much better than her.” She needs something special here
But she then walks onto Eduarda Moura’s right hand
And that has been a recurring trend — whenever Hardy begins to open up a little she leaves herself open to Moura’s power shots
Veronica Hardy lands a couple of nice elbows with her back on the canvas
Eduarda Moura begins to stand up before changing her mind
dropping back down and maintaining top control
Again: she’s unable to do too much damage before the klaxon but clearly won the round
She halts Eduarda Moura’s march forward with a couple of well-timed push kicks and then lands a nice straight left
But she perhaps gets a little bit too aggressive and Moura takes advantage by taking her to the canvas for the second time this fight
Moura is on top and has complete control of Hardy’s left leg
This is not a good spot for Hardy to be in…
Veronica Hardy is very light on her feet and looks lively but she keeps circling onto Eduarda Moura’s right hand
Hardy goes on the attack in the final seconds
but Moura catches it and takes her to the canvas
But she doesn’t have enough time to do any meaningful damage
Veronica Hardy and Eduarda Moura touch gloves and UFC 309 is away
Moura throws the first meaningful shot — a straight left that smashes through Hardy’s guard and immediately earns her respect
Moura has gone up in weight for this fight and yet she still looks like a big flyweight
Hardy is clearly targeting Moura’s body early on but she needs to be wary of the Brazilian’s counter strikes
Moura looks much more confident whenever they stand and exchange
They have both had to endure a bit of a wait but Veronica Hardy (pictured) and Eduarda Moura are now ready to make their way to the Octagon to get tonight’s fight card underway
Chael Sonnen just said he had heard a rumor that Eryk Anders was forced to withdraw after he ate something that made him unwell
That’s desperately bad luck for Anders if true
particularly as he’s a New York local and has worked so hard to regain his fitness in time for tonight’s fight
There’s going to be a slight delay to the start of tonight’s fights
That’s because Chris Weidman’s middleweight fight with Eryk Anders is OFF
ESPN have just reported on the live stream that the bout was canceled “due to a medical issue involving Eryk Anders”
Venezuela’s Veronica Hardy (9-4-1) will take on Brazil’s Eduarda Moura (10-1) in the first fight of the evening
Moura is coming off the first loss of her professional career — a split decision defeat by her compatriot Denise Gomes
She is also competing in the UFC’s flyweight division for the first time
Hardy is meanwhile riding a three-fight win streak
The early preliminary card will get underway very shortly in New York
Make sure you get in touch before the action starts this afternoon — email us at livebloguk@theathletic.com
neither Jon Jones nor Stipe Miocic have ever fought at Madison Square Garden
UFC 309 is also notable for being just the eighth event in the organization’s history to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City
UFC 205 — headlined by Conor McGregor's TKO defeat of Eddie Alvarez — was the first UFC card to be hosted inside the Garden
MSG always produces a super atmosphere and there was a very cool sight on Friday
where the fighters weighed in on the same scales that were used for Muhammad Ali’s famous bout with Joe Frazier at the same venue
One of the most interesting things about tonight’s card is that fighters will revert to wearing the UFC’s original style of gloves
rather than the updated design that was introduced in June
which were designed in the hope of reducing eye pokes
including tonight’s headline star Jon Jones
“They were very uncomfortable for me and I was actually really stressed thinking about how I'm going into fight week wearing these gloves that I don’t even want to train in?” Jones said earlier this week
Let's give you guys all what you're used to.’”
The UFC 310 card has been plagued with problems
Belal Muhammad’s withdrawal means that Shavkat Rakhmonov’s clash with new opponent Ian Machado Garry will serve as the co-main event
ahead of flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja’s title defense against the Japanese newcomer Kai Asakura
Former welterweight title challenger Nick Diaz had also been due to make his return, but MMA Fighting’s Jed Meshew today reported the 41-year-old had pulled out of his scheduled fight with Vicente Luque
The UFC is yet to comment publicly on the reports
It was announced yesterday that Ireland’s Ian Machado Garry (15-0) will face fellow undefeated welterweight Shavkat Rakhmonov (18-0) at UFC 310 on 7 December in Las Vegas
Rakhmonov had been scheduled to face Belal Muhammad (24-3-1) but the reigning welterweight champion withdrew from the bout because of an injury
Rakhmonov said on X that he was “very disappointed” to be fighting Machado Garry
claiming that both Leon Edwards and Colby Covington declined the chance to step in
“The only one who backed up his words is Ian
I'm coming for your 0 and will fight for the belt after,” Rakhmonov added

NEW YORK – Eduarda Moura beat Veronica Hardy with a unanimous decision Saturday to open the preliminary card at UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden in New York
who called out Ivana Petrovic after her win
which put her back on the right side following the first loss of her pro career
Result: Eduarda Moura def. Veronica Hardy via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
but the Brazilian had three takedowns and more than 4 minutes of control time
"The plan was to confuse her because I think she was expecting a grappling heavy fight
We have to back it up and we have the guts
Moura on being in New York"Regardless of the result
this would have been an amazing week because I met everybody
So it was an amazing opportunity and it just to represent my state and represent a place – you don't have many fighters coming from (my town in Brazil)
so to try to get a fight as soon as possible would be flyweight (instead of strawweight)
She just fought recently and I think she's ready to go

An eyebrow-raising incident occurred off the coast of Naples
owned by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego
In a statement provided to SuperyachtNews by Grupo Salinas
it appears that the bridge of Venus was unmanned at the time of the collision
“Lady Moura was anchored in the Bay of Naples at a depth of 40 metres
which meets the minimum requirements for safe anchoring under the given conditions,” the spokesperson explained
“This was calculated in accordance with the standards of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS)
The length in metres was determined using a coefficient of hold of 5
which calculates the number of shackles as the square root of the water depth in metres
Venus arrived at the anchorage and seemingly misjudged the length of the chain deployed by Lady Moura
A sudden and violent squall with winds of 50-55 knots from an unexpected direction—different from the prevailing forecasts—led to the impact between the vessels.”
despite numerous efforts by the crew of Lady Moura to alert the crew of Venus by blowing the whistle and hailing on the radio
“it appears that the bridge of Venus was unmanned”
neither vessel dragged anchor during the event
the damages to both yachts were minimal and cosmetic
both parties resolved the situation amicably and professionally
Grupo Salinas appreciates the professionalism demonstrated by all involved and the swift resolution to ensure the safety and integrity of the vessels and their crews.”
has since sparked considerable debate online
shows the 78-metre Feadship drifting towards Pliego’s yacht before making contact with the 105-metre Blohm+Voss yacht
Both vessels were anchored in the bay at the time
but our yacht was hit while we were in Naples,” said Pliego in a tweet
founder of Apple (now owned by his wife Laurene)
I’d like to know what the captain and crew were doing that they didn’t see a yacht the size of mine in front of them.”
Pliego added that the collision ultimately resulted in nothing more than a scratch; however
it will need substantial funds to repair it
The billionaire then jokingly suggested to his followers to “go and buy Apple products to help them pay”
Whilst the spokesperson has since noted that the crash was due to a change in wind
the competency of the crew has come under fire
with many questioning how this incident was possible in the first place
“The crew on the yacht Venus were twiddling their thumbs; there’s no way they couldn’t see the Lady Moura,” says Fabian Alonso (@fabianla69) on X
“It’s incredible that no crew member came out to place a fender anywhere; it seems like a ship adrift,” adds cafas (@cafascafas)
so you can see that there is no shortage of idiots in the world and understand how important it is to have a responsible and attentive captain in command,” adds Pliego
we’re going to continue enjoying our holidays.”

2023 a 17-year old blue belt named Cassia Moura left Brazil
having secured the documents to travel overseas
with the intent of competing at the IBJJF World Championships under the guidance of Bruno Bastos
Bastos had already heard of Moura long before this from her coach
Mikael Reis from IP Jiu Jitsu (a social project Bastos supports)
because she just doesn’t fit here.” She was training at a social project Bastos supported
Bastos explained that while Moura came from a community with high crime rates
She did not have any tendencies towards a life of crime like her peers
She bet on herself and on jiu-jitsu to be a way out
to not be another statistic like those around her.
After finally getting the opportunity to travel to the United States
she initially planned to return home after five weeks
warming up by winning a small local tournament in Lubbock mid May before her winning streak on the World Championship mats two weeks later.
Cassia was watching the Female Black Belt Featherweight finals match between Bianca Basilio and Ana Rodrigues
Bruno turned and asked her if she would fight either of those athletes that day on the finals mat if she could
She replied “I don’t think i would win if I fought either of them today
I would definitely still fight them” to which Bruno replied
“let’s get ready because you’re going to come back here as a brown belt.”
In the next 363 days Cassia went on to make history
winning No-Gi Worlds and getting her brown belt; and fulfilling her coaches prophecy
dominating yet another World Championship at brown
Bastos explains that there is deliberate planning that is involved in Cassia's preparation
Bastos gave her the option of choosing to be either an ADCC or IBJJF world champion
He could see her potential to be either but respected her choice when she replied “I want to be an IBJJF World champion next year.”
When asked how it feels to achieve that goal
I think of that every time I step on the mat
I fight not just for myself but for my family and friends back home
then assisting with 2-3 hours of kids classes
Most of it was self directed with her days starting at 5am and ending after 10pm
“I knew I had potential and I just had to work really hard,” she said of her training schedule
She credits her hard work as well as the help of her coaches back home
She said the only regret she has is leaving school to be able to train at that volume
Something she plans to remedy here by returning to study.
As for her plans for the future: “Win No-Gi Worlds and then go home for Christmas to see my family.”

FIFA Fan Award winner: Guilherme Gandra MouraThe winner of the FIFA Fan Award is young Vasco da Gama fan Guilherme Gandra Moura
The Brazilian said 'as long as a child's heart beats
Moura is a young fan of player Gabriel Pec
who got to meet his idol after waking from an induced coma due to epidermolysis bullosa
His mum gives him a hug and says 'you won
and the only genuine emotion we'll see in this entire ceremony
Shame it's somewhat been glossed over
Maybe it's the journalist in me but I'd just like to note that Marta has won the inaugural award named after her
with a fairly nice goal - which was the fourth goal scored in the 84th minute of a 4-0 international friendly win at home against Jamaica
I'm surprised that was voted the best of the lot
announced by former Brazilian international Bebeto
for his bravery during the floods that affected Porto Alegre
And Aitana Bonmati wins the best women's player award
You can't say she doesn't deserve it
The Spain and Barcelona midfielder has been one of the best players in the world for several years and won the Ballon d'Or back in October
as well as last year's Best FIFA Women's player gong
she says thank you in English before delivering a message in Spanish
now back on stage (of course) says one couldn't write the script of Marta winning the Marta award
the women's equivalent of the Puskas Award
Can someone an award is named after win that same award
didn't seem like the best goal on that shortlist
Marta says thank you in Portuguese while wearing a fantastic black low-rimmed hat
Just a shame that the awards didn't do Hayes and her USWNT player Alyssa Naeher the respect of letting them finish their pre-recorded video messages
Especially considering Infantino is allowed to blather on for ages
Here's the line-up for The Best Women's XI
It's announced after they swiftly ushered poor Fara Williams
Disorganisation and confusion marring the early stages of the ceremony so far
who took over as United States women's coach three months before the Olympics and led them to a gold medal
Some horrendous producing of the show so far
my early takeaways from this ceremony revolve around the technical difficulties
We've had Alyssa Naeher's acceptance video cut-off in the middle of its flow by just fading her our mid-sentence
Now we've got the women's best XI announcement video playing out with the right half of the screen missing
things just get moved on quickly and no one is allowed to acknowledge that anything untoward happened
Like assessing Manchester City men's defence
hopefully things will tighten up from here
Winning the gong for The Best FIFA Women's Goalkeeper is USWNT star Alyssa Naeher
Naeher inspired her team to gold at the Paris Olympics this summer
they cut her off midway through her acceptance speech
Alessandro Del Piero raced off the stage there without saying another word
Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho was delighted to win the award
He admitted in a pre-recorded video message that it was a 'special goal' but also hailed his team-mates for helping him achieve it
It's Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho
Announcing the winner of the Puskas Award is Italian icon Alessandro Del Piero
who's sporting a black and white pinstriped suit in the colours of his former team Juventus
We're being shown the fantastic goals nominated for the Puskas Awards
Very interesting that the FIFA president Gianni Infantino is making a song and dance about the voting for these awards including fans
Contrast that to the voting for the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia 2034 World Cup explained: Why FIFA’s awarding of the competition is controversial
Gianni goes on to say if you want to know who the best in the world is

“Directing projects where the audience gets behind the characters has always been my focus. However complex, flawed, heroic, we identify with them as we live through their journey,” Leterrier previously said in a statement
“It’s what excites me about ‘11817’s’ wholly original concept and the family at the heart of our story
This is an experience that movie audiences won’t forget.”
Leterrier is also producing the project along with Peter Chernin
Thorsten Schumacher are the executive producers
Lee is best known for her roles in “The Morning Show” and “Past Lives” and will next be seen in Disney’s “Tron: Ares” as well as Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled thriller

Cassia Moura's amazing climb in the world of Jiu-Jitsu continued on Day 1 of the IBJJF Worlds 2024 Championships when the 18-year-old earned her Black Belt just months after being a Blue Belt.
Moura, or Cassia Remesar as she's listed on the IBJJF website, won a championship as a Blue Belt at IBJJF Worlds 2024 and has never looked back. She dominated at WNO 23 a few weeks before Worlds when she used a rear naked choke to beat veteran Jessie Crane.
And now she's officially a Black Belt.
"I did it," said to FloGrappling Moura after winning the Adult Brown Featherweight class championship. "This is my dream
Moura went on to finish third in the Adult Brown Open Class.

"But I think that it's well deserved and you have to earn things and I think she for sure earned that Black Belt."
she'll do so having go to three straight IBJJF Worlds with three different belts.
