although the #22 had been running in the top three in the early stages of FP2

but he was the only rider not to improve his time in FP2
while he was two tenths slower in the second session

standing in for the still-recovering Jonathan Rea (Pata Maxus Yamaha)
was 22nd as he got his hands on the Yamaha R1 in WorldSBK spec for the first time; he improved his time by almost two seconds between FP1 and FP2
Yamaha have new superconcession parts for this weekend on the chassis
VIERGE AHEAD OF LECUONA: not much between the pair
Xavi Vierge (Honda HRC) led Honda’s charge as he took 14th place with a 1’41.143s

Felipe Drugovich returns to Vector Sport’s line-up after Patrick Pilet filled in for him at Mugello
That weekend Drugovich opted to sit out the race in Italy in order to take part in a clashing IndyCar test with Chip Ganassi Racing
The only other change comes at Nielsen Racing. As previously reported on DSC, Gabriel Aubry joins the team for a guest appearence in the seat previously filled by David Heinemeier Hansson
but both Georgios Kolovos and Raphaël Narac are confirmed for a second start at Team Virage
The duo took over from Tony Wells and Matt Bell last time out in Mugello
Cédric Oltramare is not listed to drive in COOL Racing’s #17 Ligier
leaving the team with two named drivers for the race – Miguel Cristóvão and Manuel Espírito Santo
FIA WEC LMGT3 driver François Heriau will become the sixth driver in six races to drive the #35 Ligier alongside Jean-Baptiste and Matthieu Lahaye
Guilherme Oliveira is confirmed for a second weekend with DKR in the third seat of its #4 Duqueine
The Portuguese racer joined the team for the first time this season last month in Tuscany
The third seat in that car was previously taken by Belen Garcia
who stepped away from the team on the week of the 4 Hours of Spa earlier in the summer
Formula Racing only has two drivers listed for its #50 Ferrari 296 LMGT3
Johnny Laursen and Conrad Laursen will not be joined by 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours winner Nicklas Nielsen for the final race of the season
as the Dane is set to attend Ferrari’s Finali Mondiali weekend at Imola
in what is an extremely tight points battle in the class
he and his co-drivers sit 20 points off the lead with 26 still up for grabs

Jonathan Rea (Pata Maxus Yamaha) will take no further part in either the Official Test or the Australian Round after being declared unfit with multiple fractures to his left foot
The #65 crashed at Turn 2 during Free Practice 1 for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship which brought out the red flags
while Rea was taken to the medical centre for a check-up
Following further evaluation and assessment
the Ulsterman was declared unfit for the remainder of the Official Test and the Australian Round which takes place next week
Rea finished FP1 in 15th place although had been running on the fringes of the top ten before his crash and other riders finding time
His best time was a 1’30.885s and he’d completed 20 laps prior to his fall which has now ruled him out of the season-opener at Phillip Island at the weekend
Rea will undergo treatment on his return to Europe
A statement from Yamaha said: “Jonathan Rea will miss the opening round of the 2025 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship after a crash on the first day of testing at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit
Rea fell on the exit of Turn 2 in the closing stages of Monday’s first two-hour test session
He was taken to the circuit medical centre
before being transferred to Cowes for further assessment where it was confirmed he had sustained multiple fractures to the left foot
He will take no further part in testing or the upcoming race weekend.”
said: “It wasn’t an easy day on Jonathan’s side and a bitterly disappointing day for him and his crew and for everybody in the Yamaha WorldSBK project
We’ve had such a step over the winter with Jonathan and his confidence and comfort on the R1
and his ability to be consistent and smooth and get the best out of the bike
but Phillip Island has a habit of biting you quite hard sometimes
but such a high grip circuit means when the grid releases… we’ve seen today many quite violent accidents
and Jonathan got unlucky with his left foot getting caught up in the bike and he’s broken some bones in the left foot
but the basic plan is to get back to the UK as quickly as possible and to have some surgery and start the recovery process.”
Denning also discussed whether Portimao was a realistic target for Rea’s return
He’s seeing a specialist here on Wednesday before he goes home to get
a full initial report and understanding of the injury
After we have that and after surgery is planned
but Portimao is not so far away so I think it’s going to be a big challenge.”

BackELMS : dramatic end to 2024 season in PortimaoThe 4 Hours of Portimao saw drama and excitement all the way from the start to the chequered flag with all of the 2024 titles going down to the wire
with two championships decided by a change on the final lap of the race
Three Safety Car periods and three Full Course Yellows also kept the competitors on their toes
with strategies being changed at a moment’s notice
The LMP2 title was going to be decided by three teams – AO by TF
Inter Europol Competition and Panis Racing
with AO by TF holding the advantage of 6 points going into the final race
The race saw several teams making a bid to take the final win of the season and it was the no37 COOL Racing Oreca that eventually came out on top
Malthe Jakobsen taking the chequered flag to secure the second win of the year for himself
the team and his teammates Lorenzo Fluxá and Ritomo Miyata
The no14 AO by TF Oreca of Louis Delétraz finished second to secure the LMP2 title for the third time for himself
the second time for Robert Kubica and the first time for Jonny Edgar in his ELMS debut year and the AO by TF team
The no43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca finished in 4th at the end of the four-hour race
with Tom Dillmann crossing the line 4 seconds behind the winning car
there was massive disappointment at the team when a 10 second pitstop penalty was issued early in the race
only for the penalty to be cancelled after it had been served
The Polish team could only contemplate what could’ve been as the win in Portugal would’ve secured the championship
The LMP2 Pro/Am race was won by the no77 Proton Competition Oreca after Giorgio Roda secured the pole position for the fifth time in 2024 the day before.A strong battle between the title contenders – AF Corse
Algarve Pro Racing and Proton Competition – took place for the entire four hours of the race
it was the final few laps that had everyone on their seats
The no20 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca of Alex Quinn was leading the class by not coming in for a last-minute splash and dash for fuel unlike his rivals
The British driver was trying every trick to save fuel as the chequered flag approached as he knew that the victory in Portugal would secure the championship title
But it wasn’t to be as Bent Viscaal in the Proton Competition Oreca caught and passed Quinn to take the win by just 0.995 seconds
The victory for Proton Competition meant the 4th placed no83 AF Corse Oreca
secured the 2024 titles by just two points for Francois Perrodo
The LMP3 title race was between three cars – no11 Eurointernational
with just 2-points splitting the three teams
The race for the title was also decided on the final few laps
The no17 COOL Racing Ligier of Portuguese drivers Miguel Cristóvão and Manuel Espirito Santo made the most of their pole position to lead the race in the final laps and secure their first victory of the 2024 season
It was the drama behind that had everyone on the edge of their seats
Adam Ali in the no11 Eurointernational Ligier was in second place and on course to take the title
The no8 Team Virage Ligier of Gillian Henrion was keeping in touch with Ali but a clash with the no88 Inter Europol Competition Ligier of Pedro Perino dropped the no8 Ligier down to 6th and out of contention
Ali faced another danger as the no15 RLR MSport Ligier of Gaël Julien was coming up through the field
With less than 15-minutes on the clock Julien caught the Canadian and at T14 he swept by the no11 Ligier to take second place. At the chequered flag the no17 COOL Racing Ligier was 10 seconds ahead of the RLR MSPort Ligier
with Eurointernational securing the final podium place
Nick Adcock and Gaël Julien celebrated their 2024 LMP3 European titles on the podium
The LMGT3 title was being decided by no less than eight teams after qualifying
with Sarah Bovy handing over to Rahel Frey and then Michelle Gatting
The calculations for the title were further complication when the championship leading cars – the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari and the no59 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin hit problems early in the race and were languishing towards the back of the field in 8th and 9th places
As the race entered the final stages the no85 Iron Dames Porsche had the no63 Iron Lynx Lamborghini of Andrea Calderelli pushing them hard.In the meantime Daniel Serra had pushed the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari up the order to 5th
which meant they would take the championship on countback if Michelle Gatting crossed the line in first place
However Serra needed to finish in 4thplace if the Iron Lynx Lamborghini won the race
As the race entered the final lap the Lamborghini was right behind the leading Porsche
with Calderelli looking to force a mistake from Gatting
Gatting soaked up the pressure but at T14 on the run through the final corner Caldarelli pounced and got alongside the Porsche to take the lead and take the chequered flag
This meant the no63 Iron Lynx Lamborghini Huracan crew of Hiroshi Hamaguchi
Axcil Jefferies and Andrea Caldarelli were the first ever LMGT3 ELMS Champions by just two points
securing the second title for Iron Lynx and the first ELMS win for Lamborghini

where she secured a top-20 finish from 31st on the grid—gaining over 30 places across the weekend in Portimão
Photo credits: Fotocar13Lia Block continued her preparation for her sophomore F1 Academy campaign with her second participation in the EuroCup-4 Spanish Winter Championship
Despite a tricky first qualifying session in damp conditions and being caught in a first-lap incident in Race 1
Block delivered remarkable recovery drives; a particularly strong sprint race saw her finish 17th
matching her best result from the season opener in Jerez
who made her F4 debut a year ago in the Formula Winter Series as preparation for her F1 Academy debut
showed remarkable progression in her first-ever season of single-seater racing after transitioning from mainly rally disciplines
the young American went from no experience to battling in the top five in F1 Academy
Having re-signed with ART Grand Prix for the 2025 F1 Academy season—again as a Williams Academy driver—Block started her preparation in the newly launched EuroCup-4 Spanish Winter Championship
returning behind the wheel of ART GP’s Tatuus F4 car
The second weekend of the Spanish Winter Championship saw the series head from Jerez to Portimão
featuring a massive 36-car field with many drivers preparing for their main 2025 programs
three of whom are confirmed for the 2025 F1 Academy season
Block’s weekend in Portimão began with pre-event testing on Friday
She made steady improvements over the two sessions
ultimately setting a personal best of 1:46.564 in the second session and placing P31 by the end of the day
Saturday morning’s qualifying session brought extra challenges
a red flag interrupted the session before any drivers had recorded a lap
Once the session resumed with 18 minutes remaining
Block set her first representative time of 2:01.341
lap times quickly dropped below the two-minute mark
She pushed under the 1:59 barrier and later clocked a 1:57.3 with two minutes to go
meaning she’d have some work to do in the races
it was time for the first race of the weekend on a fully dry track
it was a Campos 1-2 at Turn 1 with Strauven leading Przyrowski
The first two corners were relatively clean
but Turn 5 saw multiple collisions that took out several cars
Block was unfortunately caught in the melee and had to pit for a new front wing at the end of the first lap
and more incidents in the midfield caused debris on track
Block gained a few positions and climbed to P28 as Tye and Anagnostiadis pitted with damage
more big crashes occurred—Schaufler spun and was collected by Baztarrica
Block managed to navigate the field unscathed and moved up to P26
the race went green again: Block had a solid restart
another collision at Turn 5 between Jean Paul Karras and Kanthan triggered a new safety car period with just three minutes left on the clock
recovering ten positions despite the first-lap incident and pit stop—a solid result given the challenging circumstances
Photo credits: Fotocar13Later in the afternoon
Lia Block aimed for another strong recovery from P31
clearly targeting a feasible top-20 finish
The race however began once again with chaos: one car stalled
More drama unfolded when race leader Van't Pad Bosch
Block had an incredible start off the line and expertly navigated through the field
completing the first lap in P20—gaining 11 places in just one lap
promoting Lia to P19 before the restart on Lap 3
but she held her own and regained P21 by repassing Suslov and Przyrowski
with Lee ending up in the gravel and triggering another safety car
The race restarted with under three minutes to go: as the safety car pulled into the pit lane
the top two Campos teammates at the top of the pack went side by side into Turns 1 and 2
allowing Stevenheyden to snatch second place
Block had a safe restart in P18 but briefly fell behind Karras
Block responded by repassing Karras in a tough
she gained a few tenths of a second as a buffer and set her sights on Campos ahead
After Aurelia Nobels received a post-race penalty
taking the checkered flag in P17—and finishing as the top female driver
drivers returned to the track for the second qualifying session
which would set the grid for the final race of the weekend
The track was dry but with cooler temperatures
posting times in the top 10 before improving to third at one point
she was still holding onto a top-10 position before lap times dropped further
she set a 1:46.187—just thousandths of a second behind Emma Felbermayr
She would start P28 in a closely contested session where 30 cars were separated by just two seconds
The third and final race of the weekend took place in the afternoon under clear skies and warmer temperatures
Block had another chance to climb the order
she avoided two stalled cars on the grid and moved up to P27
everyone made it cleanly through Turns 1 and 2
Block overtook Dobrzanski and climbed to P24
The two drivers continued trading positions
She then gained another place when Monarca pitted for a new front wing
Block was improving her sector times and closing in on Baztarrica
creating a small buffer to the cars behind and inching closer to the TC Racing driver
When Felbermayr and Ryba made contact ahead
Block seized the opportunity to pass them both
breaking into the top 20 with 12 minutes remaining
Now just one second behind Van't Pad Bosch
Block focused ahead: she caught up to him and battled for position on Lap 12
but this allowed Baztarrica to rejoin the fight as well
Block ran consistently and gained two more places
Spina crashed into the barriers and retired; Block moved up to P17 with two laps to go and focused on keeping Tunon behind
She held her position and crossed the finish line in P17
a 15-second post-race penalty for track limits dropped her to P22
the Williams Academy driver still gained seven places in the final race —bringing her total weekend gain to 31 positions
"Made some really good progression this weekend!"
