If I asked you for the best dribbler in Liga Portugal
your mind might immediately think of senior attacking staples like Francisco Trincão
Bruma and Ángel Di María or Portuguese wonderkids Rodrigo Mora and Geovany Quenda
or even the inevitable Viktor Gyökeres – but you would be very wrong
Óscar Aranda stands alone as the player with the most dribbles completed and fouls suffered – the undisputed 1v1 king in Portugal, making the difference for the Azuis e Brancos in an uncharacteristically stable season. Óscar Aranda is the latest PortuGOAL Figure of the Week, and it was long overdue. Kevin Fernandes reports.
Famalicão currently sit seventh with six fixtures remaining
leaving them in great stead to match or surpass their best league finish (6th)
The Spanish youth international was decisive once more this past weekend
with this audacious Panenka penalty against Arouca giving his side another three points towards that objective
There is a reason why they call it La Fabrica (The Factory)
a term coined by the legendary ex-Real Madrid player and manager Alfredo di Stefano
Óscar Aranda Subiela reached the pinnacle of Spanish football after stints at historic staples such as Málaga and Granada in his early youth career
His trajectory was relatively successful and stable
He was a highly rated prospect rising through the youth hierarchy
earning his way from ‘C’ to ‘B’ (Castilla) without ever featuring for Real Madrid’s first team
bit-part role in the 2019/20 UEFA Youth League conquest
Óscar Aranda 😮💨#UYL pic.twitter.com/AxnfacWmGZ
His best work came for Real Madrid Castilla
scoring 10 goals and 3 assists in 54 appearances
He has already matched those numbers in fewer appearances for Famalicão
demonstrating the leap in consistency and productivity amid his adaptation to senior
top-flight football in the neighbouring country
immediately demonstrating his irreverent and explosive nature
scoring the winner in the Minho Derby against Sporting Clube de Braga
Óscar Aranda completed the comeback for Famalicão in stoppage time as they picked up all three points against SC Braga!FT Braga 1-2 Famalicão.#LigaPortugalBetclic pic.twitter.com/68ATG0f7uK
Granada native has always been blessed with unbelievable technical quality
Portugal gets to see it more regularly than ever
which was always the question for Aranda to answer
Full credit to the Famalicense structure who made Aranda feel at home from day one
to a professional team with a very good structure
They treated me well from the first minute,” Aranda told reporters following another impressive intervention against CD Nacional
Óscar Aranda is an elite dribbler who can manipulate defenders with one swift body twitch and incredible close control
What sets him apart from other irreverent attackers
Glued to the touchline or operating in the half-spaces
almost teasing and humiliating them due to his nature
behind the number nine or as the lone forward
Óscar can be criticised for his insistence on individual inspiration but Aranda is the personality we accuse modern football of lacking
the exception to systematic imprisonment of unhinged creativity
The special moments are the product of many moments of frustration
Aranda can disappoint when attempting to produce substance in the final third
Famalicão and Portuguese football will always be better off with the presence of someone of Aranda’s raw talent
The PortuGOAL Figure of the Week is certainly one to watch in the near future
at a promising age and projected to produce brilliance for years to come.

BNZ, a Spanish IPP, is teaming up with GRS, a solar EPC contractor under Gransolar Group, on a 49 MW solar plant in northern Portugal
will generate enough energy to power about 14,000 households
with GRS building the plant alongside local company Triple Watt
BNZ has also signed a protocol with the local government to handle the conservation of cork oak trees and reforest areas with native species

BNZ has a European solar portfolio of more than 1.7 GW under development across southern Europe
This project is the company’s first in Portugal
but it plans to install approximately 600 MW in the country by 2026

Twenty is the magic number for Futebol Clube de Famalicão. Debutant manager Hugo Oliveira (Ex-Fulham) took charge of his first game in charge of Famalicão after 20 years as an assistant and goalkeeping coach
As has happened so often in the recent past
20-year-old Gustavo Sá had a crucial part to play in guaranteeing an important point away at Braga’s Pedreira in a thrilling 3-3 draw
Kevin Fernandes reports as one of Portugal’s brightest young talents
shone under the lights in a Minho derby to make himself the PortuGOAL Figure of the Week.
a respected educational footballing institution in Vila Nova de Famalicão with interesting iconography
Futebol Clube do Porto poached the young talent
where Gustavo was soon integrated into the Porto affiliated academy set-up
Despite being born in the coastal town of Póvoa de Varzim
Sá would find his home inland at Famalicão
Such has been his impact that despite his tender age
representatives of the club have stated that “Gustavo has already earned himself a privileged place in the history of Futebol Clube de Famalicão.”
His rise from the Under-15s was far from ordinary
then 16-year-old Sá was promoted to the U19 squad
and he signed his first professional contract
scoring 10 goals in the U19 national championship
These elite numbers earned Gustavo his first taste of international football for Portugal’s Under-18s
winning the Torneio Internacional do Porto and Torneio Internacional de Lisboa
The transition to the first team would commence in the summer of 2022
when Gustavo Sá trained with the senior players throughout pre-season
and he would make his senior professional debut as a late substitute against…you guessed it
Gustavo Sá would shoot straight to the upper echelons of the youngest players ever to feature for Famalicão
As he adapted to the demands of Liga Portugal
the Portugal Under-19 squad was reaping the rewards as the famalicense star boy demonstrated repeatedly that he was levels above that age group
as attested by 6 goals in 12 matches for the midfielder
The following season would be his breakout one
with this current season proving to be an affirmation
Sá has accumulated 13 goal contributions in 46 appearances
As a midfielder with depth and variety to his game
Gustavo even sporadically captained his side and earned his first caps for Portugal’s Under-21 team
A unique player destined to follow in the footsteps of Pedro Gonçalves
Gustavo Sá isn’t your archetypal creative midfielder
A winner of 7.2 ground duels and 2.5 aerial duels per 90 Liga Portugal minutes played (via FotMob)
Sá is built for modern football with the perfect frame and long limbs doing nothing to lessen his technical quality
Gustavo Sá can be described as an athletic
balancing the defensive characteristics of the modern #8 with the box-crashing tendencies
and close control to operate in pockets reminiscent of the modern #10
is a perfect of a young footballer at a level beyond his years
Such productivity was achieved despite being called upon in diverse sectors of the pitch
unwilling to neglect defensive responsibilities.
His unusual build rarely interferes with his capacity to weave away from opposition with ease; not particularly an elite dribbler but capable of creation separation using body manipulation
Sá is the ‘thinker’ of famalicense offensive processes with more consideration in his progression style
delicate switches unmatched by any teammate and few players in the league
Of all the talent operating outside the traditional ‘Big Three’
Gustavo Sá can be placed among the best in terms of immediate quality and potential ceiling
Famalicão will be disappointed to have let 2-0 and 3-1 leads slip
occasion and debutant managerial context will allow for value to be taken out of an exciting duel for the neutral spectator
Gustavo Sá was at the forefront once again and is poised to advance as Hugo Oliveira’s star man before a likely move to a bigger club at the end of the season

Município de Vila Nova de Famalicão has devised a new monumental
perforated metal canopy to provide covered shelter and shade in a marketplace and square in the Portuguese northern town of Vila Nova de Famalicão
who happens to also be the town council’s architecture department lead
oversaw the modernization of the traditional market
which had become outdated and was no longer attracting shoppers to its stalls
The intervention was aimed at the market’s rehabilitation with the intention of improving previous conditions while enhancing its architectural character
Opened in 1952 the market had helped relieve congestion at the old fairgrounds (nowadays D
Maria II Square) and to make a more pleasant urban space with better
By the time of the current intervention the space had proven obsolete and lacked capacity to attract consumers
One notices that the urban context of the market is completed by three contiguous rectangular bodies with a turret that bears the City’s coat of arms
access to the Market’s courtyard is made via Captain Manuel Carvalho Street and by Dona Maria II Square
Some buildings from the town’s original marketplace designed in 1948 in a style known as Portuguese Suave
repurposing some of the existing buildings on the site
which was maintained and rehabilitated in the architectural project follows the street frontage
was supported by these buildings; interior spaces were occupied by several commercial retail establishments in which meat
In addition to the new facilities in the program
the idea of a metal canopy that would ensure the ability to meet the permanent and seasonal market needs to spearhead the addition of a cleverly designed canopy to ensure the market can operate in all weather conditions and throughout the year guaranteed not only provision of shade and shelter but a welcome reference to the pre-existing triangular module of the turret
The design allows a greater integration to the neighborhood opening up a new face into its surroundings
Within the covered area are new stalls for vendors including butchers
These stalls take the form of gabled volumes featuring shutters that can be lowered to protect their contents when the market is closed
The courtyard can be reached through the original buildings to the north or from the public square to the west while stairs descend from these entrances to the courtyard positioned at a slightly lower level

Arsenal are close to almost confirming two players
Like London buses! If, that is, you were waiting for the bus for a month and it hasn’t actually got to the stop yet and is stuck at a red light that appears to be broken. From having signed nobody though
As Arsenal announce they will be next up to feature in Amazon’s much-loved All Or Nothing behind-the-scenes documentary series
behind the actual scenes there is work being done to complete the first transfers of the summer
Albert Sambi Lokonga is having his Arsenal medical ahead of a move from Anderlecht in a deal that could be worth around £20m
The search for a left-back had been fruitless since January
Nobody could be convinced to join mid-season to act as Kieran Tierney’s backup
and while an understandably tough deal to pull off
the lack of a recognised left-back proved detrimental to Arsenal’s season once Tierney got injured
Nuno Tavares is at London Colney today following his isolation period in London. Arsenal are hoping everything will be done in time for him to travel with the squad to Scotland for next week's training camp. pic.twitter.com/hzGJ2ML4uG
With focus elsewhere in the window
the emergence of Tavares’ name was an exciting left-field development amid a general lack of knowledge of the player
Arsenal have got their hands on someone who is young
on a long contract and versatile to solve a real problem area in the squad
Pre-season is underway for Arsenal and with the club preparing to travel to Scotland to face Hibernian for the first of their mini-tour next week
As per Charles Watts
the 21-year-old has completed his isolation period after arriving in the capital and was present at London Colney on Friday
The club are working on wrapping up the final details of the move and are hopeful of having the Portuguese available to travel north with the rest of the squad for the training camp
Tierney has been granted an extended break after featuring for Scotland at the European Championships and while his return won’t be as late as Bernd Leno’s
it opens up a spot for Tavares to play his first minutes for the Gunners
Sead Kolasinac is back at Arsenal following his loan spell with Schalke 04 and will likely start against Hibs as Tavares is eased into action
although as someone on the transfer list there could be developments between now and then which leave the former Benfica player as the only senior option
