playground in Bacău leaving both children traumatized and their mother seeking justice The incident happened in a paid playground in the Arena Shopping Mall in Bacău where a Romani mother took her two children to play while she was away shopping the play time took a distressing turn when a non-Romani child falsely accused one of the Romani siblings of hitting him The mother of the non-Romani child confronted the Romani siblings slapping the older boy while hurling derogatory racial slurs such as "Dirty Gypsy" and "Crow" (a racist slur for Romani people and other ethnicities in Romania) The supervisor of the playground also intervened condemning the mother's racist actions and warning her against such behaviour verbally assaulted and threatened the supervisor and demanded his money back from her While the playground manager called security several other mothers present told her that it was pointless because the husband was a police officer When the Romani siblings' mother returned to the playground she saw her children crying and learned about the unfair treatment they had faced which other mothers who were present also confirmed She tried to talk to the non-Romani parents to resolve the issue but was unsuccessful the non-Romani couple violently attacked her The husband grabbed her throat and pushed her the European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) and the Romanian NGO ROMAJUST offered the family legal assistance The mother took immediate action by filing a complaint with the police and sharing the incident's footage with a national television station bringing the case to the public's attention Following the public exposure of the incident the County Police Inspectorate initiated an investigation conducting interviews with the playground employees.  "The situation is even more serious because it involves an innocent child who tried to defend his brother It is unacceptable for a child to be physically assaulted on a playground and we hope that the authorities will take the necessary measures to ensure justice is served," - said Eugen Ghiță the President of the Romani Lawyers Association ROMAJUST This incident serves as a sobering reminder of how discrimination and hate-motivated crimes manifest in the daily lives of Romani families Society as a whole must stand against hate speech and hate-motivated ensuring the safety and dignity of all individuals is not only about holding the perpetrators accountable but also about sending a powerful message that hate has no place in a just and inclusive society This complex case continues evolving as new criminal complaints are filed to the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Bacău Court and hearings unfold This incident is not an isolated occurrence but rather part of a broader pattern of discrimination and hate-motivated crimes against the Romani community going unchallenged in Romania The ERRC and ROMAJUST remain committed to providing legal defence and actively supporting individuals and organisations in their fight against discrimination and promoting equality and justice for the Romani community The ERRC’s COORDE (Challenging online and offline Roma Discrimination in Europe) Project funded by the European Commission through the "Citizens plays a crucial role in addressing discrimination and hate speech against Roma in both online and offline environments and the Equal Opportunities Initiative constructed around Bacău diverting transit traffic and heavy goods vehicles away from the city to reduce accidents The bypass forms a link in the major transport artery that runs from Ploesti in the south The first is construction of a bypass on the eastern side of Bacău including two connections to the DN2 (E85) national road The DN2 is a major north-south axis through the city of which 16.27 km overlaps with the future Moldavia motorway The second component will connect the DN15 national road with component 1 in the north of the city Component 3 will connect the DN11 (E574) national road and component 1 in the south of the city 16.269 km will consist of a motorway with two lanes in each direction while the remaining 14.573 km will be a 2x1 lane national road seven roundabouts and nine overpasses will be constructed five national roads converge on Bacău: the DN2 which results in increased travel times and poses a safety risk for residents and a health risk in the form of noise and air pollution Accidents or maintenance on these roads cause major delays for passenger cars or heavy goods vehicles The DN2 is a 2x1.5 lane national road that links the north and south of Romania between 11 889 and 16 729 vehicles travel on it daily DN2F and DN15 are used by between 5 161 and 8 744 vehicles a day the number of accidents on the DN2 running through Focsani – Bacău – Roman – Suceava/Iasi (especially the Bacău urban area) increased by about 40 % a total of 1 915 accidents were recorded on this road in the Bacău urban area This figure has not decreased in recent years The new bypass will support Romania’s socio-economic development by making the TEN-T Core network safer The improved road infrastructure will reduce vehicle operating costs and ensure that transit traffic This will make roads safer for local residents while reducing noise and pollution The benefits of this are improved quality of life for Bacău’s residents The new infrastructure is expected to help boost the regional and national economy and will have the capacity to handle the predicted increase in international and local passenger and goods transport The project is on the list of General Transport Master Plan priority projects for development of the transport sector until 2030 The master plan has been approved by the Romanian government and endorsed by the European Commission in 2015 It was enforced by a governmental decision in 2016 Total investment for the project “Construction of Bacău bypass” is EUR 204 436 094 with the EU’s Cohesion Fund contributing EUR 145 487 644 through on the Preventive System transmitted by the Saint of Youth thanks to which it aims to respond to the numerous challenges of today's society the Salesian school offers young people an integral education focusing above all on three aspects: education of the conscience and finally education to the society -all of which are necessary for the harmonious development of a child The values underpinning the school thus include education A journey of a thousand miles begins with a small step the School of Don Bosco begins with initiating the first class this year listing just 12 children on the rolls were dressed in their first school uniform and entered their preparatory class to begin their educational journey according to Don Bosco's heart The celebration was held in a family atmosphere where the dream of the patron saint of young people was realized drew a parallel between the dream of Don Bosco at the age of nine and that of the Salesian mission in Bacău referring to the image of a mountain: the preparatory class was its foot while the summit towards which it tends to would be the eighth grade so as to complete an entire educational cycle through the prayers and the collaboration of all emphasized the need for communication and the joint involvement of all the everyone responsible for the education of the children in a society the Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Iași Fr Eduard-Mihai Coşa were also present on the occasion recalling his deep connection with St John Bosco highlighting Don Bosco’s exemplary priesthood the young students trooped into their classroom with suitable interior to house the little ones where they began various educational activities together with their teacher everyone could see that the words most important and dear to Don Bosco were experienced and lived to the full on this first day of school at 'Don Bosco' ANS - “Agenzia iNfo Salesiana” is a on-line almost daily publication the communication agency of the Salesian flourishing Salesian branch of Bacău: the Salesian Primary School "Don Bosco" shall open its doors to the first 22 young students of the preparatory class starting in September on whose preparation the Salesians have been working for some time will open a new field of service on the part of the Sons of Don Bosco and it is hoped that it shall give way to a wider range of formation in the field of formal education: the dream of the Salesians At the work in Bacău - a city in the north-east of the country with about two hundred thousand inhabitants and an Orthodox majority - there was practically everything except a school: the Salesians already run an oratory a day center for minors and a vocational guidance center; they run specialization and advanced training courses courses for parish animators; and they run an important summer camp that brings together many children the new school has been launched and available enrolments have been entirely completed in a short time The environments in which the lessons will take place are the same ones in which already today about 110 children gather to play sports and grow together making good use of their free time And they are fully-equipped environments: five classrooms thanks to funding received through a European project and we inaugurated them in 2013," Fr Iosif Ilieș who have been present in Romania since 1996 "It's a project that people have been waiting for and we've been working on for two years setting up the rooms and obtaining all the necessary documentation based on Christian values and Don Bosco's preventive system regardless of religious or social affiliation The inauguration of the school is scheduled to take place on the school's first day of operation the date when classes begin throughout the country But the Salesians are not so focused on their projects that they are losing sight of what is going on around them Fr Ilieș said the community also remains attentive and active in providing relief to Ukrainian refugees who have fled the war "Bacău is a city of passage; few stop here and the city's facilities so far manage to cover the needs But we help with the service of volunteers
