Before folding himself into the car for the eight-hour drive to Birmingham
Brad Stevens wondered aloud why he would travel so far to see Ronald Nored’s high school basketball game
who had initially committed to Western Kentucky
had reopened his recruiting after head coach Darrin Horn left the school for the same position at South Carolina
had tentative interest in landing Nored but wasn’t fully sold on the prospect
“I’ve got to get in this car and drive to Birmingham
Stevens knew Nored’s coach at Homewood High
where Nored made the all-state team as a senior
who stressed Nored would fit well at Butler
Stevens had heard all about Nored’s top-notch leadership
When the coaching staff watched game film of Nored
a Butler assistant who would later become the head coach at Indiana State
recalled wondering if the guard was good enough to recruit
Nored didn’t shoot the ball well from outside
He didn’t check all the boxes that the Butler coaches normally looked to find in a point guard
Stevens asked a question of his assistant coaches before leaving on the long car ride:
To land a prospect who would become one of Butler’s most valuable players
he had a presence on the court and in huddles
He prioritized only what was best for his team
By the time Stevens returned from the recruiting trip
he had a very different message for his assistant coaches
He could see that Nored’s value would exceed his basketball skill set
Nored wasn’t just good enough to play at Butler
but good enough to start every game of his freshman season and lead the team to back-to-back appearances in the national championship game
He finished his career in a tie for Butler’s all-time steals record and ranked second in school history in assists
He won the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year award twice
including one season when he finished in a tie
Nored also became a prime example of Stevens’ ability to evaluate what puzzle pieces his team needed
Stevens has since proven that his talents would translate into an NBA front office by finishing the construction of what might be the league’s most complete roster
but it was at Butler where he first showed his gifts for identifying overlooked players and building a team of complementary parts
the Celtics will enter Game 1 of their second-round series against New York on Monday with a strong chance to defend their championship
where he had a 166-49 record as a head coach and guided the team to the first two Final Four appearances in school history
Stevens revealed the tenets he considered most crucial to winning basketball while demonstrating the vision that would one day turn him into a championship-winning president of basketball operations
Based on how he approached stitching together rosters back then
his former assistant coaches and players have not been surprised to see Stevens value all the same characteristics with the Celtics he targeted at Butler
but believed a successful team involved far more than that
“Brad understands the most important thing in any organization
whether it’s the business world or sports world
“And he surrounds himself and finds people that live by the same standards that he lives by.”
Butler basketball rocketed into national prominence soon after Stevens took over as head coach
but built the foundation for success before his tenure under coaches such as Barry Collier and Todd Lickliter
During Stevens’ final season as an assistant coach under Lickliter
the team reached the Sweet 16 before falling to Al Horford’s Florida Gators
the coaches at Butler were always fighting to overcome the realities of a mid-major program
Since they couldn’t necessarily target five-star recruits
“We were very particular with our recruiting,” Graves said
Butler typically sought players from winning programs
It wanted players willing to put the team above individual success
When the assistants under Stevens attended high school games or AAU games to recruit
they weren’t just evaluating a player’s physical gifts or basketball IQ
They observed how players handled themselves in huddles
How they behaved when they were on the bench or in foul trouble
Graves said the coaches would discuss all of those details
“The biggest thing in looking for guys was
did they fit the team concept?” said Graves
How did they act when they weren’t playing well or when things weren’t going well for them?”
a Butler assistant under Stevens who followed Stevens to the Celtics and is now the head coach at Notre Dame
said the Butler coaches scoured for information about players’ personalities like NBA teams do before the draft
Once they were confident a high schooler was talented enough to play at Butler
their focus shifted more toward his character
said he would go to schools and ask teachers and janitors about a player
Coaches and parents would usually praise a player to anyone recruiting him
but someone else might share more useful information
when you walk through the hallway to talk to people
Or even something as simple as how do you warm up
Does somebody need to motivate you or are you bringing energy to your teammates?”
He wanted lineups with multiple ballhandlers
He wanted winners who would habitually do the right things
Stevens cared about how the pieces fit together on and off the court
he instructed his assistant coaches to trust their own vision for how a player would fit in the program
“That approach was more like putting a puzzle together,” said Johnson
Stevens told his assistants not to worry about recruiting rankings or any media reaction
He wanted them to look at a player’s strengths
He encouraged his assistants to think outside the box and believe in their evaluations
“If you feel like that’s the person that helps your program and you see the vision for that player
“It doesn’t matter what the outside people think
And I think that’s a really powerful thing
And a lot of people get caught up in caring what rankings (players) are and all that
but it really was more about just trusting your eyes and your evaluation
Parts of the Butler culture were established before Stevens took over the program
would drive to play pickup with the team during his time in high school
Hahn said the Butler players would run the flow offense the team used in real games
just like they would do in the regular season
Aiming to play within the framework of the team’s style
they would typically avoid the bad shot selection and questionable effort that often plagues pickup games
each guy really just played their role,” said Hahn
Nobody tried to take over if it wasn’t their role
Shrewsberry said that when a younger player would bring a phone near the court
one of the older players would alert him that phones weren’t allowed during pickup time
the players didn’t want everybody scattering to their phones and spending their time alone
Hahn said the players would police themselves
thanks to NCAA rules that prevented them from watching offseason pickup games
The younger players could learn about the culture just from watching the juniors and seniors
“Everything was just so competitive,” said Hahn
“And it wasn’t that coaches were yelling at you
It was the players that they had were all intrinsically motivated individuals.”
Those were the type of individuals Stevens sought
Because he wasn’t the kind of coach to yell at his teams consistently
he needed players who required no such motivation
“It’s not that they weren’t gonna be held accountable
we’re gonna cuss at them and just make them play out of fear,” said Graves
“That wasn’t how we were gonna be successful
It was (finding) guys that really cared about winning and they came to work
Butler featured several stars during Stevens’ tenure
and Shelvin Mack went on to play in the NBA
Matt Howard was an honorable mention All-American in 2009
it was beyond improbable for a team from the Horizon League to reach two consecutive national championship games
No team in the conference’s history had ever reached the Final Four before
Stevens searched for players like Nored who would accentuate their teammates daily
The culture of work established at the school helped him avoid the wrong fits
Hahn noticed a recruit failing to hustle back on defense
upperclassmen might have prioritized keeping the recruit happy in hopes he would commit to the school
The uber-competitive Hahn wasn’t going to ignore the lack of effort
Stevens called Hahn into his office and asked what he said to the young prospect
Hahn thought Stevens was angry after learning Hahn had used some language he shouldn’t have used with a 17-year-old
Butler ended up missing out on the recruit
who became an all-league player at another college
but didn’t fit what they wanted at Butler — players who would be desperate to win even during open gym
He can’t handle the competitiveness that we want in our guys,’” Hahn recalled
Stevens had no experience in an NBA front office when the Celtics named him Danny Ainge’s replacement in June 2021
Those with Stevens at Butler still believed he was more than qualified for the job
he’s going to crush this,” said Shrewsberry
The former Butler assistants have nodded their heads several times while watching the way Stevens has assembled the Celtics roster
They see his impact in the way his team has consistently avoided drama
secured buy-in and acquired players committed fully to their development
He has looked for all the same qualities he would have wanted at the school
“The Jrue Holiday and Derrick White (trades)
those are Brad guys right there,” said Shrewsberry
“The biggest thing he did (at Butler) was he never held anybody back,” said Hahn
“He always let people be who they were because he knew he recruited the right kind of guys in the system
He figured out a pattern of success and had some really good talent
but the (Payton) Pritchards of the world are just as important as the Jaylen Browns and the Jayson Tatums
I think he empowers players by treating everybody the same
allowing people to be who they are and trying to get them to just soar with their strengths.”
putting the finishing touches on a roster Ainge began building
the Celtics knocked the Magic out of the first round in five games after completing their second consecutive 60-win regular season
the Celtics will continue their journey to become the NBA’s first repeat champion since the Warriors in 2018
Stevens first stepped into Ainge’s former role one day after a 36-36 season that ended with a first-round playoff exit
the organization’s future was filled with uncertainty
Stevens has rearranged almost the entire supporting cast
He has constructed the Celtics according to his basketball ideals
“He really just wants to be around good people
we all achieve something bigger than ourselves.”

A late crash in the NASCAR Texas race took out Brad Keselowski, former leader Austin Cindric
It happened on the back straightaway with 20 laps to go when Keselowski's No
6 Ford Mustang got out of the groove and spun out
After much of the field avoided Keselowski
Custer and Busch slid into the side of Keselowski's car followed by Dillon
Keselowski was trying to win for the first time this year and Bush was attempting to end a winless streak
which has reached 68 races and stretches back to June 4
finished second at Texas in 2024 and had a solid run in the race to that point
Keselowski and Busch were involved in a wreck at Talladega on April 27
Cindric led 60 laps and won stage one of the race
The crash brought out the 11th caution flag of the race
Michael McDowell was in the lead after a clean restart coming off the 10th caution
Joey Logano went on to win the race followed by Ross Chastain and Blaney

Good Cheer remained perfect and gave Louisville trainer Brad Cox another Kentucky Oaks victory
Ridden by Luis Saez, Good Cheer raced mid-pack early, made a five-wide move on the final turn and rumbled down the stretch to win the $1.5 million, Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks by 2 1/4 lengths on an overcast Friday afternoon in front of 100,910 at Churchill Downs
Good Cheer remained undefeated in seven career races
“I’m not certain what her ceiling is,” Cox said
with Good Cheer joining Monomoy Girl (2018) and Shedaresthedevil (2020)
Cox wasn't ready to proclaim Good Cheer the best of the three but likes what he's seen so far
“The word I keep going back to is her level of class," Cox said
… She just continues to bring it every week in her workouts and her races
It was a good day for Louisville trainers, as Cox — a 1998 Iroquois High School graduate — and Drexel Hill — trained by 2000 St. Xavier product Whit Beckman — finished 1-2
Drexel Hill had a slow start and was last after a half-mile before rallying to place at 32-1 odds
1 1/4 lengths ahead of third-place Bless the Broken
“She just took a minute to get her stride together," Beckman said
she was moving real easily and got a good trip from then on.”
The trainer then looked to the winner's circle
where Cox was celebrating Good Cheer's win
“I’d rather be standing over there," Beckman said with a smile
Post time was delayed about 10 minutes because of an afternoon thunderstorm that left the track in "wet fast" condition
La Cara and jockey Dylan Davis set the early fractions of 22.58 seconds for the quarter-mile
46.78 seconds for the half-mile and 1:11.36 for three-quarters before fading
Saez settled Good Cheer in the middle of the pack along the backstretch before moving on the final turn
who has ridden Good Cheer in each of her past six starts
said he wasn't concerned about having to go wide
it doesn’t matter what move you make," said Saez
who won his second Kentucky Oaks after leading Secret Oath to victory in 2022
Good Cheer earned $855,600 for the win and boosted her career earnings to $1,733,230 for owner Godolphin
Her perfect record includes four victories at Churchill Downs
"Brad and his team have done an outstanding job with her," Godolphin representative Michael Banahan said
"We know how difficult it is to keep a horse
And to be able to do that and win at the top level like this was fantastic."

Moviemakers and Mercedes-AMG team up to show their excitement for the upcoming F1 feature film
Alex LeanseWriterMay 03
stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris as Joseph Kosinski directs and Jerry Bruckheimer produces
The team behind the F1 movie partnered with Mercedes-AMG
which applied its expertise from winning multiple Driver’s and Constructor’s championships to create compelling racing visuals
and provided multiple vehicles to decorate various scenes
Now, the F1 filmmakers and Mercedes-AMG are celebrating their collaboration with a limited-run vehicle: The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition
APXGP is the name of Pitt and Idris’ fictional team in the F1 movie
which was filmed at actual F1 races around the world
Although Pitt and Idris could never actually lap competitively against Mercedes-AMG F1 drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli
their car for the silver screen looks as legit as that of the Silver Arrows
Although this scheme is somewhat evocative of Lotus F1 racing teams of years past
the APXGP car’s black and gold livery serves as direct inspiration for the new GT 63 APXGP Edition
the GT 63 APXGP Edition then gains a variety of details painted in Race Gold—see the lipstick around the grille or accent on the rear diffuser
Providing a particularly race-inspired detail is the hand-painted checkered flag pattern applied behind the (also gold) front fender vents
Forged 21-inch gold-painted wheels painted tie it all together
On the back half of the APXGP Edition surrounding the fixed carbon fiber rear spoiler
there’s a gray geometric pattern shared with the movie race car
Open the doors and step past sill plates emblazoned with a backlit gold AMG logo
and you’ll find a cabin further adorned with the color reserved for a race winner’s medal
the APXGP Edition gains gold contrast stitching on the seats
The leather accent in the floor mats is itself accented with an embroidered gold AMG logo
Even the gloss carbon fiber trim has a special gold thread running through it
and AMG Aerodynamics packages included on the APXGP Edition
the car gains street presence and a bit of downforce for track driving
The GT 63 APXGP Edition will be limited to 52 examples
each adorned with a dedication plaque in the center console
An edition-specific indoor car cover is also included
a life-size inflatable Brad Pitt dummy is equipped to ride shotgun in the 2+2 coupe
Just kidding on that part—but if you see a black-and-gold GT 63 whizzing by
there’s a decent chance it’s the superstar actor behind the wheel

For the first time in 15 years, Brad Tavares isn’t part of the UFC’s immediate plans
who made his octagon debut all the way back in 2010
has been removed from the UFC roster following the completion of his most recent contract
UFC officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Saturday
While it’s entirely possible that Tavares could still eventually re-sign with the UFC
for now he’s been removed from the roster since he’s out of contract
Tavares exits as one of the most experienced UFC veterans in recent history after he made his debut as a 5-0 prospect and now holds a 21-10 record overall
Tavares has gone 2-2 in his past four fights, which includes wins over former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman and submission specialist Gerald Meerschaert in his latest win back in April
The 37-year-old Hawaiian, who now calls Las Vegas home, has faced a long list of top fighters during his career including four current or former middleweight champions including Weidman, Dricus du Plessis, Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker
It remains to be seen if Tavares eventually agrees to a new deal to return to the UFC or if it’s possible that he ends up potentially signing with a different organization
Tavares is a free agent with his UFC contract coming to an end without a new agreement in place

Mercedes is betting that at least 52 people will love the upcoming Brad Pitt vehicle (pun intended) “F1” enough to drive it
The brand will build just 52 copies of a special edition 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Coupe built to commemorate the movie due out late next month
the film features Pitt as a Formula 1 driver who comes out of retirement to help a new team and train a rookie driver played by Damson Idris break into the ranks of the world’s most glamorous racing league
We can’t testify to the accuracy of a film we haven’t seen
But it has the potential to be one of the more authentic racing movies
Crews filmed the movie at real Formula 1 races
with today’s drivers playing background parts and Pitt’s fictional Apex Grand Prix team taking up real space in the paddocks with Mercedes
F1 legend Lewis Hamilton is a producer on the project
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition six-figure Happy Meal toy “features numerous unique design elements and equipment details that closely mirror the design from the film’s fictional APXGP Formula 1 team,” Mercedes says
Mercedes has not revealed pricing for the movie model
with a 577-horsepower hand-built biturbo V8 engine
Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) system
and the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with active roll stabilization
But the skin is movie-inspired in black with gold accents
matching the livery of the fictional racing team
A black-and-gold checkered flag design fades in a subtle gradient extending from the front brake vents
Matte Race Gold 21-inch cross-spoke wheels hide black brake calipers
“The AMG Performance seats are upholstered in black Nappa leather/microfiber and customized with gold contrast stitching.” Trim elements in carbon fiber have gold-colored thread woven in
Each buyer will get a custom indoor car cover to keep their car pristine like a hard compound tire kept warm in the Pitts

Brad Gasque, technical marketing leader at DuPont Cyrel Solutions, was presented with the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA)’s President’s Award
Announcement came at the formal banquet held in conjunction with FTA FORUM INFOFLEX 2025
His journey into flexography wasn’t meticulously planned—it was sparked by a passion for understanding how things work and a drive to make them better
Brad has built a career rooted in hands-on solutions
From plate troubleshooting to press optimization
Brad has become a go-to expert—someone who not only solves problems but helps prevent them by empowering teams through training and guidance.”
and now bestowed annually on an individual who stands out for extraordinary commitment to advancing the flexographic printing industry and uplifting the community that powers it
FTA’s President’s Award recognizes individuals who go beyond the day-to-day demands of their careers to give back to the profession – a leader who shows up early
and stands dedicated to making the industry better—for today and for the future
Their impact is felt through the innovations they champion
the knowledge they share and the people they inspire along the way
After starting college as a mechanical engineering student
he realized the field didn’t offer the hands-on problem solving he craved
A transfer to Clemson University’s Graphic Communications program opened new doors—ones that would lead him directly to the world of packaging and print. Following graduation
Brad was hired to manage the Advanced Flexography Lab at Clemson’s Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics
and managed R&D initiatives that deepened his expertise and passion for the field. He also supervised the printing of at least one FTA demo project.”
“His impact goes far beyond his professional role,” Ridnouer maintained
“Brad has made it his mission to give back to the industry and community that helped shape his path
His contributions to FTA over the years have been both wide-ranging and deeply impactful.” For example:
“Brad’s story is proof that the flexographic industry is at its best when led by people who master their craft and invest in their community,” Ridnouer exclaimed

Masters champion and last year’s third-place finisher
he recommended that we reach out to the person who has won more money playing Jeopardy
than any human (or computer) alive: Ken’s rival of 20 years
Jeopardy! greats Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter have shared the stage several times as competitors
including when Rutter beat the would-be host in the 2005 Ultimate Tournament of Champions
when they were both beat by IBM’s Watson in 2011
when Rutter bested Jennings in the 2014’s Battle of the Decades
and when Team Brad beat Team Ken in Jeopardy
when you saw that lighthearted exchange between Brad and Ken in the opening introductions — ‘I know you’re delighted to see me
Ken’ — think about how many games
and decades went into the formation of that moment
becoming the first human to ever beat Rutter
then Jennings finishing the best-of-3 series with victories in Games 3 and 4
I absolutely loved seeing these two come together again
and you can tell Brad Rutter’s ready to reignite the friendly rivalry
as he gave Ken Jennings hell for bringing up the 2020 tournament and said he planned to “make fun of” the host a bit while he’s there
It may have been Brad Rutter’s first game in five years
but Michael Davies certainly didn’t ease him back into the competition upon his long-awaited return
Rutter was immediately pitted against last year’s Masters champ Victoria Groce (complete with green jacket) and runner-up Yogesh Raut
and he finished in third place for no match points

Brad Keselowski seemed to have figured out how to balance running a team and driving at the same time during the 2024 season for RFK Racing
a new campaign has brought on a slew of challenges
and the veteran wheelman has struggled immensely in 2025
Keselowski is P32 in points through 11 races
which happened at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March
As he searches for his first top ten of the season, and tries to get back to Victory Lane in the Cup Series for win No. 37 of his career, NASCAR insiders Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic tried to make sense of it
While they recognize a win could save their season and lock the veteran into the playoffs
they’re not seeing where it could happen for Keselowski at the moment

“What’s interesting to me is, you look at the No. 17 team, you look at the No. 60 team, those teams at RFK have been pretty good, especially No. 17, and the No. 6 team has not been — I don’t think it’s been really anywhere close to that level. … The thing is too, looking at the qualifying, they’re not even qualifying well. He’s had one top 15 qualifying effort this year and that was at Atlanta, and he qualified ninth. There’s just nothing going right for this team right now.”
All told, it’s evident Brad Keselowski has been disappointing in 2025, and there’s no way to skirt around that. As the summer rages on, perhaps the former NASCAR Cup Series champion can shock the world and turn things around. If not, the washed allegations will grow louder, and one will have to wonder whether the time to hang up his steering wheel is here.

Good Cheer won Friday’s 151st running of the Oaks by 2 1/4 lengths
making it the third time in the last seven years that Cox has been the winning trainer
The Louisville native won in 2018 with Monomoy Girl and 2020 with Shedaresthedevil
But none were quite as dominant as Good Cheer, who is now undefeated in seven starts including a perfect 4-for-4 mark at Churchill Downs
"I'm not sure what her ceiling is," Cox said
as she broke wide coming off the second turn and simply outraced the pack
extending a length-and-a-half lead to win comfortably
All of a sudden, it’s fair to ask, can Cox duplicate Kenny McPeek this year
McPeek became the first trainer since 1952 to sweep the Oaks and the Kentucky Derby in the same year
If it feels like there are similarities between the two
Both had fillies that were the better horse
He pulled it off with a near-perfect trip from the No
Cox’s horse, Final Gambit
At 30-1 odds, he’s even more of a long shot than Mystik Dan (18-1) was last year. Cox is still looking for a chance to cross the finish line first. His Derby victory in 2021 with Mandaloun was only awarded after Medina Spirit failed a drug test and was disqualified
there’s currently plenty Good Cheer in Cox’s barn
She’s a superstar in the making having accepted and met every challenge to date
Challenge might not even be the right word
as Good Cheer has won all of her races by a combined 44 3/4 lengths
Cox acknowledged there were some skeptics of her ability to win the Oaks because of her speed figures that didn't suggest there would be any separation
That other fillies in the field could run just as fast as her
"The one thing I kept going back with her was she beat some really good fillies in Quietside here in the fall and some others," Cox said
And that's probably the most impressive thing
Friday’s running of the Kentucky Oaks wasn’t about speed figures or best trips
It came down to which filly could handle all of the intangibles that no trainer or jockey could plan for in the days leading up to the race
as could they be prepared for running on a sloppy track
But no one imagined the severe weather delay that hit Churchill Downs around the ninth race at 4 p.m
The video monitors throughout the stands and stationed near concessions all posted an ominous warning reiterated by a voice over the public announcement system telling them to seek shelter
It sent well-dressed spectators in their pink-clad outfits to the exits in droves like the outcome was decided in the final minutes of a basketball game
it only led to about a 10-minute delay for the Oaks' post at 6:03 p.m
That wasn't enough time to damper Good Cheer's run
Cox said while the track was wetter than he thought during the walk over to the paddock
Good Cheer won an allowance race over a sloppy track at Churchill Downs by 17 lengths in September
"She'd handled track and performed very well on our off track here last September
so we were confident that she could handle it," Cox said
Good Cheer solidified her place in history
Cox will see if Final Gambit can do the same

TS Conductor announced plans to establish its second U.S
South Carolina—ushering in the next generation of advanced conductors
Marking the largest economic investment in Jasper County’s history
the company is committing $134 million to the project
including a 300,000-square-foot facility and creating 462 new jobs
Recently appointed by TS Conductor as the new Executive Plant Manager is Clemson MBA graduate Brad Thompson
With over 15 years of progressive experience in manufacturing and operational leadership at Bosch Rexroth
Thompson saw the MBA as a key to unlocking the next phase of his career
That move paid off when a recruiter reached out about the role at TS Conductor
“The opportunity to join a growing company such as TS Conductor was the perfect next step for my career,” says Thompson
“To be able to lead such an important investment in our state is a humbling experience
Thompson’s journey began at Bosch Rexroth as a CNC Machinist while studying for his undergraduate degree in business administration from Limestone University
he was promoted to a Shift Supervisor position for his first leadership role and knew leading and developing people was what he wanted to do
Thompson realized he had hit a ceiling and knew an MBA would help him take the next step in his career
After visiting an open house with the admissions team
Thompson knew Clemson was the MBA program for himself
but Clemson’s comprehensive approach with the curriculum and emphasis on networking made the decision easy for me,” Thompson explains
“The networking piece of my experience opened up doors that I never would have imagined
and I am reaping those benefits to this day.”
Another lasting impact the Clemson MBA Program had on Thompson was what he learned in his coursework
Dee Kivett’s course on Six Sigma methodology was instrumental in my career in improving processes,” states Thompson
“As TS Conductor builds the new manufacturing center to be more data-driven
I have been able to bring a structured approach to problem-solving and improve on the company’s existing processes.”
The Hardeeville facility will produce an aluminum encapsulated composite core conductor—an innovative technology in high demand among utility companies
These next-gen conductors are up to three times more efficient and play a vital role in enhancing U.S
the site’s proximity to the Port of Savannah will support strategic exports to Europe and beyond
Even though construction is still underway
“The new plant will allow our company to expand capacity by 20 times that of the Huntington Beach
allowing us to meet the demands of current utility partners domestically,” Thompson details
there is already talks to continue expansion by another million square feet for the South Carolina location to keep up with market demands.”
Thompson remains deeply connected to his alma mater through his involvement with the MBA Alumni Council
he’s paying forward the guidance and support he once received
“It has been a way to pay it back to Clemson as a small part of the greater Clemson Family,” shares Thompson
“To connect with current students to share my experiences from the program and offer feedback from a real-world position has been enjoyable
It allows for the students to grow their network and for us on the council to make an impact on the next class of graduates.”
“We are so proud of Brad and what he has done for our students,” says Jamie Patterson
Director of Career Services and Student Experience for the Clemson MBA Program
“It has been exciting to watch him continue to achieve so much after completing his MBA while still maintaining the importance of giving back and supporting the next generation of leaders from our program
He is a perfect example of what it means to be a part of the Clemson MBA family
and we wish him continued success and happiness in this new adventure.”

In case you hadn’t heard, Brad Pitt is racing into cinemas this June with his long-anticipated Formula 1 film. To mark the occasion, Mercedes has decided to join the party by unveiling a limited-edition version of its AMG GT
this real special coupe will be limited to just 52 units worldwide and comes wrapped in a distinctive black and gold livery
styled after the fictional APXGP F1 team featured in the movie
This exclusive version of the Mercedes AMG GT is built on the GT 63 4Matic+ platform
which means it packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 pushing out 585 horsepower
What sets it apart visually is a matte black paint job paired with an unapologetically generous amount of gold trim
Read: Mercedes Gifts F1 Star A Supercar But He’s Banned From Driving For 3 Years
You’ll notice it right away on the grille
outlined in gold against a blacked-out backdrop
where gold stripes run down the doors and into the rear fenders
the paint transitions into a mix of black and dark grey patterns
Mercedes didn’t stop at a fancy paint scheme. The APXGP Edition also includes the AMG Exterior Carbon Fiber package and the AMG Aerodynamics package
There’s also the AMG Night Package II
bringing in more black accents to complete the look
The APXGP-inspired parts adorn the cabin as well. The AMG Performance seats have gold stitching and there are gold elements on the steering wheel
Merc’s sports car also rocks a Burmester 3D audio system with 15 speakers
and a ‘Limited Edition 1 of 52’ badge
While every current F1 team makes an appearance in the film, Mercedes-AMG played a larger role behind the scenes. The automaker provided several vehicles for filming, including an SL, a G-Class
who recently traded silver for red at Ferrari
Mercedes hasn’t revealed pricing or confirmed which regions will get a slice of the 52-car pie
there’s a good chance it’s already spoken for

After dispatching the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games
Florida enters the series against Toronto with momentum and with a familiar Maple Leafs foe in their lineup
Among the storylines heading into the matchup is Brad Marchand’s presence on Florida’s roster following his trade-deadline acquisition
Marchand spent nearly 16 full seasons with the Boston Bruins
faced the Leafs multiple times in the regular season and the playoffs
and is known for his gritty style of play and leadership
According to teammate Matthew Tkachuk, who appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Friday
“He’s probably just got the experience against some of these
and knows when [to] get them off their game,” Tkachuk said
”He’s got some pretty good chirps.”
Tkachuk emphasized how rare it is to find players who can irritate opponents verbally and still produce
making them more complete than casual enforcers limited to bringing physicality to the game
“The guy that makes you the most mad
and the guy that’s in your face—you know
but can also go on the ice and back it up and put the puck in the net and produce and ultimately win games,” Tkachuk said
“We’re very lucky to have a guy like that.”
Florida Panthers center Brad Marchand (63) works out during warmups against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena
Marchand, who registered four assists in the first round, spoke about Tkachuk earlier in the series during an "NHL on TNT" interview in Game 2 of the first-round series against the Lightning
“He’s a terrible guy,” Marchand said
”You see the mindset he gets into when it becomes game time.”
After a slow start to the transfer portal season
Illinois has finally kicked it off in the transfer portal
and coach Brad Underwood finally has something to celebrate
Underwood has landed four commitments from players who hail from the Balkans this offseason
with the latest coming Monday in Cal transfer Andrej Stojakovic
the son of former NBA star Peja Stojakovic and one of the best available players in the portal
chose the Fighting Illini over North Carolina and Stanford
the Illini dipped a couple of toes in the overseas market and came out with Lithuania’s Kasparas Jakucionis and Croatia’s Tomislav Ivisic
with the two ending up as two of their best players last season
Illinois will feature a total of five players with European nationality – Tomislav and
Mihailo Petrovic (Serbia) and Andrej Stojakovic (a Cal transfer whose father
is a Croatian of Serbian and Greek descent
Fans are beginning to see the funny side of Illinois’s roster ahead of next season
Illinois can now field a starting five of strictly Balkans
and a Reddit user even named the coach Brad “Tito” Underwood
With the influx of international players on the roster
Illinois and Underwood have also embraced the movement
Underwood even has a hilarious moniker: “Bradimir.”
Underwood partnered with Gameday Spirit to sell “Bradimir” T-shirts and hoodies
with a portion of every sale going to the Orange Krush Foundation
The organization donates money to various charities in the Champaign-Urbana area that aim to help the less fortunate
Pretovic is 22 years old and was an MVP candidate in the Adriatic League
averaging around 14 points and seven assists
Stojakovic is an elite shot-maker from all three levels and will step in as the premier scorer on the wing
KEEP READING: ‘Bradimir Underwood’ — Illinois Fans Don’t Hold Back as Brad Underwood’s Latest Post Sparks Hilarious Reactions
He slots in well with the European theme that Underwood has fallen in love with
as well as his big-time offensive skill sets and good positional size
there’s no reason this team shouldn’t contend with Purdue and Michigan for some Big Ten hardware and a top-two seed in the Big Dance
Underwood and Illinois lost to Kentucky in the second round of this year’s NCAA tournament
but they should be able to improve upon that finish this year

BLOOMINGTON — An independent investigation found Thursday that former Indiana basketball team physician Brad Bomba Sr. did not act "in bad faith or with an improper purpose" while conducting examinations through his career, according to an 874-page investigation report Indiana University released
The report concluded that Bomba conducted digital rectal examinations (DREs) as a routine part of his annual physical examinations (PPEs) of players throughout his tenure and those examinations were “by virtually all accounts” conducted in a clinically appropriate manner
Jones Day also found no evidence to suggest Bomba obtained any sexual gratification in performing the tests
“The evidence did not lead us to conclude that Dr
Bomba acted in bad faith or with an improper purpose when performing DREs while conducting thorough and complete PPEs of a college-age student athletes,” the report states
the law firm representing the plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against Indiana University and Tim Garl
“The Jones Day report confirms that IU officials knew that Dr
was penetrating these young athletes’ rectums and IU refused to stop it.”
An attorney representing Bomba provided USA Today Network with a statement from Bomba's son
Brad Bomba Jr.: "Our family has not had a chance to read the 874 pages of the Jones Day report in full but we understand its conclusion affirms what we have known our entire lives
which is that our father was a caring physician who treated his patients in a clinically appropriate manner
always placing their health as his top priority."
including multiple student-athletes from each decade that Bomba served as team physician
and reviewed more than 100,000 documents spanning six decades
The law firm also retained three independent medical experts with a background in sports medicine and high-level athletics
Jones Day cited the opinions of those experts to conclude that it was “not clearly unreasonable” for Bomba to include DREs as part of the basketball team’s annual physical exams
Jones Day has worked on similarly prominent investigations in college athletics
either as representation or in providing independent review of facts
including cases at Michigan and Michigan State in recent years
"Indiana University will continue to work toward ensuring the safety and well-being of all members of our community and will continue to take any and all allegations of misconduct seriously," the university said in the release of the report
Brad Bomba’s standard of careBomba performed the vast majority of annual physicals (PPEs) players were required to undergo at the start of each season throughout his tenure
They were described in the report as “comprehensive and thorough” with Bomba requiring a series of tests — examples included vision and dental exams
orthopedic exams and blood work — that went beyond the standard annual physical for a college-age male
The digital rectal examinations Bomba performed were among the tests Jones Day said “exceeded” the baselines for a standard annual physical for a student-athlete that didn’t have a condition or history that would support it
There were 11 former players who expressed concerns about the DREs to Jones Day — three players told the law firm “they felt violated or humiliated” — but the report states that a “substantial majority” of former IU basketball and football players reported “favorable” experiences with Bomba as a medical professional
Jones Day sought to interview as many former players and staff members as possible as part of the investigation
While the law firm maintained an open hotline for calls and emails
it also reached out to hundreds of former student-athletes going back to the 1960s based on a list of alumni provided by the university
“A large proportion of witnesses who had encounters with Dr
including a significant majority of former basketball players and staff
Bomba and expressed their support for him,” the report states
including physicians in the community and former student athletes
felt the allegations against him were a shame or travesty
including those who received DREs during their physicals
Bomba in admirable terms and clearly hold him in high regard
the former longtime team physician for the University of Florida
Stanford’s former longtime athletics physician
Notre Dame’s former longtime medical director
They agreed that it was an “uncommon practice” to include DREs as part of an annual physical for a student-athlete — the report noted that other physicians including Dr
John Miller who performed annual physicals for IU at the time didn’t perform DREs — but the experts had differing views on whether it was an appropriate standard of care
Jones Day also received letters from various community physicians with the majority stating that conducting DREs as part of an annual physical was an accepted medical standard
“These respective conclusions show that professional minds can differ on the appropriateness of Dr
Bomba’s practices and that there is no clear uniformity around what the standard of care would have been during Dr
our ultimate assessment is that it was not clearly unreasonable for Dr
Bomba to include a DRE in the PPEs he performed for the IU men’s basketball team.”
Individuals associated with Indiana University learned about Bomba administering DREs as part of his annual physical exams through second-hand accounts during his tenure
Jones Day found that all those individuals believed the exams to be within Bomba’s medical discretion
The law firm found no documented complaints against Bomba “made to state licensing authorities; state
and campus law enforcement; the IU athletic department; the IU basketball program; the IU Office of Institutional Equity and its predecessor departments.”
who is a defendant in the lawsuit filed by Mujezinovic
was the staff member most frequently mentioned by players as having overhead their discussions about the exams
He was interviewed by Jones Day as part of its investigation
Garl said it was “no secret” that Bomba performed DREs and players spoke openly about it in the form of “locker room humor," but he considered the DREs to be part of the basketball team’s “executive-level
concierge-style medical care," the report said
He also noted there was no punishment for a player who refused one and they could still be cleared to play
“Garl said that if he made too much of a fuss about the DREs
the players might be more reluctant to undergo their physical exam,” the report stated
“Garl said he thus took more of a business approach to the exams but admitted that he would sometimes join in the locker room humor
It was not 'sexual talk,' but characterized as 'razzing.' Garl acknowledged that he made comments like Dr
Bomba 'is a big guy and he has big fingers.' But Garl emphasized that
Bomba’s decision to include DREs as part of each player’s PPE.”
While Jones Day categorized Garl’s comments about the exams as “unprofessional,” the law firm concluded that he had a “good faith belief” that DREs were medically appropriate and he wasn't alone
every IU employee or official with whom we spoke who became aware of the DREs believed they were appropriate
and had no sexual connotation," the report stated
DeLaney & DeLaney issued a statement on behalf of plaintiff Mujezinovic that said
“The report did not help me understand the rationale for Dr
Bomba Sr.’s actions or for IU’s failure to act
It seems to me that IU stayed quiet at the expense of me and the other players.”

Microsoft released the very first version of Microsoft Word
It was a major milestone in the company’s journey to enhance people’s productivity through innovation
It also marked the young and growing company’s first big step in Europe with the first Microsoft product localized in multiple European languages
our economic reliance on Europe has always run deep
We recognize that our business is critically dependent on sustaining the trust of customers
and actively defend Europe’s cybersecurity
Our support for Europe has always been–and always will be–steadfast
we are committed to providing digital stability
That is why today Microsoft is announcing five digital commitments to Europe
These start with an expansion of our cloud and AI infrastructure in Europe
aimed at enabling every country to fully use these technologies to strengthen their economic competitiveness
And they include a promise to uphold Europe’s digital resilience regardless of geopolitical and trade volatility
we believe in trans-Atlantic ties that promote mutual economic growth and prosperity
We were pleased the Trump administration and the European Union recently agreed to suspend further tariff escalation while they seek to negotiate a reciprocal trade agreement
We hope that successful talks can resolve tariff issues and reduce non-tariff barriers
consistent with the recommendations in the recent Draghi report
We will always be dedicated to creating jobs
and strengthening cybersecurity on both sides of the Atlantic
like the very first European version of Microsoft Word
take our support for Europe another step forward
We recognize that European nations want and need a world class and broad AI and cloud ecosystem
we are announcing plans to increase our European datacenter capacity by 40% over the next two years
We are expanding datacenter operations in 16 European countries
When combined with our recent construction
the plans we’re announcing today will more than double our European datacenter capacity between 2023 and 2027
It will result in cloud operations in more than 200 datacenters across the continent
This expansion will play an important role in boosting Europe’s economic growth and competitiveness
We believe that broad AI diffusion will be one of the most important drivers of innovation and productivity growth over the next decade
Like electricity and other general-purpose technologies in the past
AI and cloud datacenters represent the next stage of industrialization
They are creating real-world capabilities to fuel business and manufacturing innovation
and support digital tools in education—all while keeping data and operations close to home
Our public cloud datacenters are a foundation for the diversified cloud ecosystem we are committed to supporting across Europe
This includes the Microsoft Cloud for Sovereignty
a package of technologies and configurations to help governments and other customers run on Azure in our public cloud datacenters with greater control over data location
A second aspect of our diversified approach involves sovereign cloud datacenters
Microsoft has partnered with Capgemini and Orange
Designed as a “cloud de confiance” (trusted cloud) platform
Bleu offers a broad range of Microsoft Azure cloud services and Microsoft 365 productivity tools operated under French control
a similar sovereign cloud initiative is underway through a partnership between Microsoft
and Arvato Systems (a Bertelsmann IT subsidiary)
is creating a sovereign cloud platform for the German public sector
hosted in German datacenters and operated by German personnel
A third aspect of our work involves our collaboration with European cloud providers to offer Microsoft applications and services on their local cloud infrastructure
This partnership provides these European providers with the opportunity to run Microsoft applications on more favorable terms than we make available to Amazon and Google
we are developing new technology and licensing solutions tailored for these European providers and the markets they serve
we recognize that European governments likely will consider additional options
Some of these may involve public financing to support European home-grown offerings
We recognize the importance of a diversified technology ecosystem
and we are committed to collaborating with European participants across the tech ecosystem
Microsoft is investing tens of billions of dollars annually in expanding its datacenters across Europe
They are permanent structures and subject to local laws
we don’t always agree with every policy of every government
But even when we’ve lost cases in European courts
Microsoft has long respected and complied with European laws
We understand that European laws apply to our business practices in Europe
just as local laws apply to local practices in the United States and similar laws apply elsewhere in the world
This includes European competition law and the Digital Markets Act
We’re committed not only to building digital infrastructure for Europe
but to respecting the role that laws across Europe play in regulating our products and services
Microsoft is committed to helping Europe navigate the uncertain geopolitical and trade environment and better manage risk by strengthening the continent’s digital resilience
We will always strive to be a voice of reason that promotes mutual opportunities and stable ties across the Atlantic
We in fact believe that even amidst current trade and tariff disputes
there is a strong consensus in Washington supporting the sustained flow of digital services from the United States to Europe
We also are listening closely to the views of European governments and leaders
need to have rock-solid confidence in the digital infrastructure on which they rely
Microsoft is headquartered in the United States
but we provide cloud services to Europe through corporate entities headquartered in Europe
To further cement the nexus between Microsoft and Europe
going forward our European datacenter operations and their boards will be overseen by a European board of directors that consists exclusively of European nationals and operates under European law
In the unlikely event we are ever ordered by any government anywhere in the world to suspend or cease cloud operations in Europe
we are committing that Microsoft will promptly and vigorously contest such a measure using all legal avenues available
By including a new European Digital Resilience Commitment in all of our contracts with European national governments and the European Commission
we will make this commitment legally binding on Microsoft Corporation and all its subsidiaries
Microsoft has a demonstrated history of pursuing litigation when that has been needed to protect the rights of our customers and other stakeholders
This includes four lawsuits we filed against the U.S
Executive Branch during President Obama’s tenure
including to protect the privacy of our customers’ data in the United States and Europe
Supreme Court to uphold the rights of employees who are immigrants
We are confident of our legal rights to ensure continuous operation of our datacenters in Europe
And we are prepared to back this confidence with our contractual commitments to European governments
we will designate and rely upon European partners with contingency arrangements for operational continuity in the unlikely event Microsoft were ever required by a court to suspend services
We are already enabling our partners in France and Germany to do this for the Bleu and Delos datacenters
and we will pursue arrangements for our public cloud datacenters in Europe
We will store back-up copies of our code in a secure repository in Switzerland
and we will provide our European partners with the legal rights needed to access and use this code if needed for this purpose
Microsoft has long been at the forefront in designing and implementing technology solutions to protect customer data
We enable customers to control where their data is stored and processed
We offer customers robust capabilities across the entire cloud stack from infrastructure to platform to software as a service
from Azure to Microsoft 365 to Dynamics 365
We back our technical solutions with strong contractual commitments and
a demonstrated history of going to court on behalf of our customers
Reflecting our continuing commitment to innovation
we recently finished implementing our EU Data Boundary project
This offers European customers the ability to have their data stored and processed in Europe
our European commercial and public sector customers have been able to store and process their data and personal identifiers for Microsoft core cloud services—including Microsoft 365
and Azure services—within the EU and EFTA regions
Microsoft completed the project by extending the EU Data Boundary to include professional services data from technical support interactions
we make these solutions available in all our European cloud regions and throughout our tech stack
Our Microsoft Cloud for Sovereignty offers customers a range of other tools to secure data
we will continue our fight to protect the rights of European customers
Microsoft has a strong track record of going to court in the rare instances that we need to protect European data from unauthorized access
We have consistently fought legal demands that conflict with European law and have taken our challenges all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States
as a direct result of litigation Microsoft brought on behalf of our European customers
Congress enacted legislation that guarantees our right to object to U.S
law enforcement demands to access European data that conflict with EU law
We codified our promise to protect our European customers’ data with our Defending Your Data commitment
in which we agreed to challenge any government demand for EU public sector or enterprise customer data where we have a legal basis for doing so
We have included that commitment in our customer contracts and backed it up with a promise to compensate customers if we disclose their data in violation of EU law
Today we commit to further strengthen and expand solutions that allow European customers to control and protect their data
We are embarking on new steps to listen to and consult with European customers to build on what already is the most complete
and sovereignty solutions that any cloud services provider now offers to customers in Europe
We look forward to sharing in the coming months the conclusions that emerge and the new steps we decide to take

Microsoft immediately helped evacuate Ukraine’s critical data and technology services to our datacenters across Europe
This move ensured Ukraine’s continued digital operation outside the range of cruise missile and air attacks
this illustrates the role that a broad network of datacenters plays in supporting not only digital but broader resilience
In addition to safeguarding the country’s data
we immediately helped Ukraine’s officials and citizens defend their nation from Russian cyberattacks
Microsoft has provided more than $500 million of free technology and financial assistance to Ukraine and has sustained our substantial support to this day
we have provided cybersecurity support to NATO
including by sharing cybersecurity threat intelligence
and disrupting attacks against European governments
More than three years since the start of the war in Ukraine
European governments and countries confront ongoing cyberattacks from Russia
As these threats grow in number and sophistication
strong cybersecurity protection and coordination are more important than ever
as is the ability to respond rapidly to regional demands
That is why today we are announcing the following cybersecurity steps
which will be followed by additional announcements in the coming weeks
our Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Igor Tsyganskiy announced that we are appointing a new Deputy CISO for Europe as part of the Microsoft Cybersecurity Governance Council
This senior executive will be dedicated to Microsoft’s security responsibilities in Europe
consisting of our Global CISO and Deputy Chief Information Security Officers (Deputy CISOs) representing each of our technology services
This Council oversees the company’s cyber risks
The appointment of a Deputy CISO for Europe reflects the importance and global influence of EU cybersecurity regulations and the company’s commitment to meeting and exceeding those expectations to prioritize cybersecurity across the region
This new position will report directly to Microsoft’s CISO
The Deputy CISO for Europe will be accountable for compliance with current and emerging cybersecurity regulations in Europe
including the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA)
These laws will prove transformative not only in EU markets
and Microsoft is actively engaged in preparing for what lies ahead
We believe the CRA will reshape the regulatory landscape as a new gold standard for cybersecurity
We will build on the work of our Secure Future Initiative and dedicate additional resources to comply with the CRA
we look forward to continuing our years of engagement with the European Commission
and customers on CRA implementation efforts
We are committed to our role as a member of the European Commission’s Expert Group on Cybersecurity of Products with Digital Elements
Microsoft will continue to engage with stakeholders across a range of CRA topics
These will include incident and vulnerability reporting
cybersecurity best practices and improving open-source security and attestation
We will share our innovations that support implementing the CRA essential security requirements to help European economic operators also prepare for CRA compliance
we will engage an independent auditor to verify and validate our commitments to Europe
We know that people will only use technology that they trust
which is why we are dedicating resources to accelerate our compliance with the CRA and committing to independent validation
We recognize the importance of ensuring open access to our AI and cloud platform and infrastructure across Europe, including for open-source development. That is why we announced last year a set of AI Access Principles and we will introduce new enhancements to these commitments in the coming months
and other organizations take advantage of the open access to models and tools that we provide to innovate
This includes technology startups such as Factorial in Spain to build AI-driven automation for HR professionals
iGenius in Italy to develop AI solutions for regulated industries
and Visma in Norway to provide AI solutions for companies in accounting
And it includes the Institute Curie in France to research new therapies for cancer
UBS in Switzerland to create the future of banking
and Heineken in The Netherlands to boost employee productivity
We recognize that Microsoft must constantly remain focused on earning and sustaining our “license to operate” in each country across Europe
this starts with each local community and country and includes officials with continental-wide responsibilities
Since we first brought the first version of Microsoft Word to Europe 42 years ago
digital technology has changed the ways people work many times over
we believe the second quarter of the 21st century may bring even bigger changes ahead
Artificial intelligence offers what may become the most powerful tool for people in the history of humanity
there will be some who will seek to turn it into a weapon
it will be critical for us to help Europe harness the power of this new technology to strengthen its competitiveness
We will need to partner with smaller and larger companies alike
and open-source developers across the continent
And we will need to listen closely to European leaders
We are committed to doing all these things well
As we celebrated Microsoft’s 50th birthday earlier this month
we recognized that our longstanding presence in Europe has been a lynchpin of our success
Our support for Europe has always been—and always will be—steadfast
