BIG eliminated Wildcard from PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 on February 17th following a 2-1 victory. They met in the 1-2 pool of the Swiss group stage and Wildcard lost the decider despite having a man advantage on six rounds.
The series kicked off on Ancient and BIG completely dismantled Wildcard's defense as they pulled a flawless T-side. Wildcard had a good chance to grab at least one round but Marcel "hyped" Köhn prevented them from doing so.
At least Wildcard saved themselves from the embarrassment of getting 13-0'd as Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and Love "phzy" Smidebrant won a heroic 2v5 in the second pistol. However, that wasn't enough to stop BIG's momentum and the German team closed out Ancient in the first gun round.
Wildcard found a way to reset after that Ancient loss and played much better on Inferno, their map pick. They had great mid-round calls to outplay BIG's CT-side and secure a 7-5 advantage for the second half.
Things were looking really promising for Wildcard after phzy single-handedly destroyed BIG's T-side pistol with a cracking Dualies ace. From a moment it looked like Wildcard were going to run away with an easy victory, but BIG put up a good fight and Inferno would have gone to overtime if it wasn't for Tim "susp" Ångström denying the B bombsite to BIG in the final round.
It all went down to Nuke, a map in which both teams have a mixed record. Wildcard strolled to a 5-1 lead on their CT-side, but a couple of silly mid-round mistakes prevented them from getting past seven, thus giving BIG a lifeline for the second half.
There was a lot of back-and-forth at the start of the second half as both Wildcard and BIG won rounds with just pistols, but the German team came out on top of it and wrecked Wildcard's T-side economy early on. BIG never looked back after they got ahead in the scoreboard and closed out the map with ease.
The elimination must leave a bitter taste in the mouth of Wildcard's players as they could have defeated BIG, The MongolZ, and Virtus.pro in the tournament.
With Wildcard out of PGL Cluj-Napoca, all there is left for NA fans is to cheer for Complexity, who will play an elimination series versus SAW today at 12:00PM.
No. 1 seed Anastasia Potapova came from behind to post a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over unseeded Lucia Bronzetti and win the WTA 250 Transylvania Open title in Cluj-Napoca on Sunday.
World No. 32 Potapova needed 2 hours and 2 minutes to battle back from a set down and best 72nd-ranked Bronzetti in the final. With the win, Potapova extended her perfect head-to-head against Bronzetti to 5-0.
"I’m so happy right now because [it was] such a battle," Potapova said after her triumph. "She is such a great player, she always pushed me to the limits, and I’m really happy that I’m able to hold [the trophy] in my hands now.
"I can be really patient on court, and actually, I can set the highest goals for myself and work for it."
This is Potapova's third career WTA singles title, and second on indoor hard court. Her most recent title before this week also came on this surface, two years ago in Linz. Potapova's maiden title came on clay at 2022 Istanbul.

Match breakdown: In Sunday's early going, it looked like Bronzetti might get her first win over Potapova. The Italian edged ahead by a break by 5-4, then cranked back-to-back forehand winners down the line during a thunderous hold to seal the one-set lead. It was the first set Potapova dropped all week.
Bronzetti had a break point in the first game of the second set as well, but Potapova erased that chance with a powerful down-the-line backhand of her own. After getting out of that game with a hold, Potapova started to turn the match in her favor.
Potapova went on to win the final five games of the second set, leveling the encounter. Potapova chopped her unforced errors from 25 in the opener to just 11 in the second set. The top seed also out-winnered Bronzetti by 12 to four in the second set.
A love break to open the final set helped Potapova ease to victory. At 5-2, Bronzetti saved three championship points, the third with a bold forehand winner down the line, but Potapova found some of her top serves of the day on the next two points to clinch the title.

Halep announced her permanent retirement from professional tennis

and Liquid have chosen to skip PGL Cluj-Napoca
a $1,250 million tournament that kicks off days after IEM Katowice 2025 concludes
According to HLTV's Editor-in-Chief Milan "Striker" Švejda
this decision has to do with the way PGL monetized the event
"We know that the top teams are not happy with PGL just putting everything in the prizepool," Striker said in the latest episode of HLTV Confirmed
They (the teams) wanted some revenue share and they didn't end up getting so they're skipping PGL."
Striker also highlighted that this decision to skip PGL could be "pretty disastrous" for teams such as Liquid and FURIA as they'll lose the opportunity to try climbing some points in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS). The HLTV Editor-in-Chief talked in depth about Liquid's situation in his column at HLTV
While tournament organizers like ESL and BLAST do not put all the money directly into the prize pool
Instead of splitting the money between revenue share for teams and prize pool for the players
PGL puts all the money in the prize pool for the organizations
"It’s up to the organizations to decide how they use the money, whether for salaries, team development, recruiting, or operations," PGL's CEO Silviu Stroie wrote on X on January 30th
"PGL is not going to dictate how teams should allocate their earnings
We do not force organizations to compete in most of our events in order to be rewarded
and we appreciate everyone who enjoys them."

Following the conclusion of PGL Cluj-Napoca
the TO paid out their talent in very short order
This led to a rave review from analyst Jacob "Pimp" Winneche on X:
I was paid for my work at PGL Cluj-Napoca less than 12 hours after I arrived home
In general TOs are great at keeping fair payment deadlines
As a freelancer I can only appreciate that 🤍 @pglesports
Dustin "dusT" Mouret also received his payout quickly
I was paid by @pglesports before I even boarded my plane home yesterday
It was the same for the RMRs/Shanghai Major
Sent our prize money invoice for @pglesports Cluj yesterday and the payment was made today
but PGL are not only clearly the best in terms of payment speed but they're in their own league
PGL are actively trying to challenge other more established CS2 tournament organizers such as ESL and BLAST
and they might just be able to shake up the scene if they keep doing little things like this
the community thought PGL Cluj-Napoca was a great event despite some of the top teams missing
BLAST and ESL will have to bring their A-game in their upcoming events to match PGL's standards
Casters Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill and Alex "Machine" Richardson drank a beer during Astralis v
the 3rd place decider match of PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025
They were casting a hectic Mirage game which FaZe won by 28-24 after a string of dramatic overtimes
After FaZe won the first three rounds of the fifth overtime
the camera cut to Machine and SPUNJ and they made a toast with their Heinekens
much to the happiness of the PGL Cluj-Napoca crowd
"Get yourself a TO like PGL," Machine celebrated
"(Who) bring you a beer mid-cast," SPUNJ added
FaZe didn't go to distance as Astralis won Inferno and Ancient during regulation to get the 3rd place and gain some much-needed points in the Global Valve Regional Standings (VRS)
Liquid's decision to decline the invite for PGL Cluj-Napoca has been extensively criticized by fans and pundits
Unlike the other teams skipping the tournament — Spirit
and Natus Vincere — Liquid don't have much room to work with in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS)
that this controversial decision came from Liquid's management
This was revealed by Liquid's head coach Torbjørn “mithR” Nyborg in a conversation with the caster Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill during the coach roundtable at IEM Katowice
"I know that I'm not (the decision-maker)," mithR told SPUNJ
who asked if Liquid's manager Steve "jokasteve" Perino was the decision-maker on Liquid
"We discuss what tournaments we want to go to
where we’re being told what tournaments we go to
I don’t know who has discussed what with who
there are some tournaments we go to and some that we skip
It’s not going to matter too much for us whether it’s one or the other."
mithR also said that while he isn't excluded from such decisions
and others make decisions like deciding which tournaments Liquid will attend
Depending on their results at IEM Katowice 2025
Liquid would have to do significantly better in the next two tournaments
ESL Pro League Season 21 and BLAST Open Lisbon
These will be their latest opportunities to gain points on the Ranking before the April 7th cutoff for the BLAST.tv Austin Major
And that may as well be the case as Liquid lost to HEROIC in the opening round of IEM Katowice Stage 1 and now need to win back-to-back best-of-threes to qualify for Stage 2
Liquid's first elimination series at IEM Katowice Stage 1 is against Complexity tomorrow
The PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 group stage finalized this Tuesday
February 18th and just like in other tier-one LANs
Train is the least popular map of the official rotation
We're nearing two months since Valve swapped Vertigo for Train after many pros and casuals asked for the removal of the former throughout the past few years
Train's inclusion has kept the map pool just as stale as it was in 2024
Train was played just twice so far in PGL Cluj-Napoca and is tied with Anubis in that regard
They're far away from the rest — Inferno (21)
and Mirage (11) — which suggests that fans will rarely see teams play Train throughout the playoffs
The reason for Train's unpopularity seems largely tied to the fact that many teams had Vertigo as their perma ban
so it's only logical that they made Train their perma ban at least until they figure out the map's meta
This becomes even more evident as the few times Train was played in 2025 it wasn't exactly pretty
Complexity and Astralis are among the few teams who played Train the most
The way it stands it looks like fans will have to wait more to see Train being played regularly by pros
unless some underdogs give the map a try in the upcoming ESL Pro League Season 21 Play-in
The group stage of PGL Cluj-Napoca has concluded
with eight teams advancing through the Swiss stage to the single-elimination playoff bracket
and SAW all claimed playoff spots in the fifth and final round of the group stage
though that does mean they will draw the higher seeds in round one
Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski stands alone as the sole North American presence in playoffs
as both Wildcard and Complexity were eliminated in the group stage
The first round of playoffs looks like this:
Arguably the biggest surprise is the appearance of SAW
who were down 0-2 with Ricardo "roman" Oliveira and José "Shr" Gil set to be benched
The Portuguese roster rallied back with three wins against FlyQuest
But now they've drawn their toughest opponent yet in top-seeded FaZe Clan
paiN and MOUZ will kick off a long day of quarterfinals action on Friday
Falcons will want to quickly forget their first pistol round on Dust2 v
putting FaZe in a dismal-looking 2v5 on the infamously hard-to-retake B bombsite
David "frozen" Čerňanský and Håvard "rain" Nygaard were the final two standing FaZe members
The retake began with rain and frozen finding two quick frags
frozen tapped the bomb to force a peek from the three remaining Falcons players
Emil "Magisk" Reif and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač were left to right the ship for Falcons against rain and frozen
but Falcons were nervous about another fake
rain fell while protecting his comrade but Magisk and NiKo couldn't find frozen before he completed the defuse
as they won the map and the series 2-0 over FaZe despite this embarrassing round
Falcons will face MOUZ in the grand final of PGL Cluj-Napoca tomorrow at 11:00AM
Viktorija Golubic and Aliaksandra Sasnovich mounted dramatic comebacks at the Transylvania Open on Tuesday
each saving match points to win three-set battles on Court 2 in Cluj-Napoca
Cluj-Napoca: Scores | Draws | Order of play
Golubic, first up, fended off two to defeat Arantxa Rus 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(10) in 3 hours and 30 minutes -- the longest tour-level match of the 2025 season. The 32-year-old Swiss player has been resurgent since winning her second Hologic WTA Tour title in Jiujiang last October -- a tournament where she also came through a marathon against Rus
Golubic needed six more minutes to seal victory in the joint-third longest regular (first to seven) third-set tiebreak of the 2020s
She had saved one match point serving down 6-5 in the decider
she flashed a brilliant one-handed backhand to set up a fifth
The 12-10 third-set tiebreak scoreline matches Petra Kvitova's 5-7
7-6(10) defeat of Garbiñe Muguruza in the 2022 US Open second round (before the tournament instituted first-to-10 third-set tiebreaks)
only two matches have exceeded it: Kvitova's 6-2
7-6(11) defeat of Jessica Pegula in the fourth round of Indian Wells 2023
7-6(12) victory over Anett Kontaveit in the 2022 Sydney semifinals

The drama continued on Court 2 as lucky loser Aliaksandra Sasnovich saved five match points en route to defeating No
a last-minute replacement after Laura Siegemund withdrew due to a lower leg injury
faced all five serving down 5-4 in the second set
The result marks the most match points saved en route to a victory in a WTA main-draw match since Viktoriya Tomova also saved five in last June's Bad Homburg quarterfinals against Anna Blinkova
Dracula Gaming Events' organizers have announced the cancellation of the event
we have come to the difficult decision that the remaining time is simply not enough to execute Dracula Gaming Events at the premium level we envisioned," a press release states
"Due to lower international interest in Cluj-Napoca
we have decided to take a bigger and more ambitious approach for the future of Dracula Gaming Events
Rather than moving forward with an event that doesn’t meet our full potential
we are reinterpreting the Dracula concept into something even more immersive
The statement explains that over the past months
the organization has explored new ways to expand the reach and influence of Dracula Gaming Events
"Our vision goes beyond a single-location event - we want to create a movement that integrates Dracula’s unique identity into global gaming experiences," they detailed
and special experiences that place Dracula Gaming Events on an even bigger international platform," the organization explained in its announcement
"As an event that was positioned to set new benchmarks in iGaming conferences
we do not want to compromise on impact and effectiveness
Rather than proceeding under less-than-ideal conditions
we will refocus our efforts to align with the industry’s evolving needs."
"We truly appreciate the support from our partners
and attendees—it’s been an incredible journey and we’re grateful to everyone who’s been part of it
we’re still committed to the iGaming community and look forward to staying connected in different ways," the organizers concluded
Complexity has bombed out of PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 following a dismal 0-2 loss to SAW today
seeing the beleaguered squad exit the Romanian LAN with Imperial Valkyries being their only win on LAN so far this year
the team struggled to close the opening map where they held a massive lead
while recent additions Danny "Cxzi" Strzelczyk and Nick "nicx" Lee struggled immensely on the server
was the closest COL came to winning a map against a male team at the event
with the squad posting a great 9-3 CT-side before climbing up to an 11-3 lead after halftime
in a tragic collapse on their opponent's map pick
losing nine out of the next ten rounds to force the series into overtime before SAW claimed their map with a perfect overtime run
things got even worse for Complexity as it was their turn to start on the backfoot
with SAW winning their opening T-side 8-4 before things got even worse as SAW posted a perfect CT-side to claim the map 13-4 and the series 2-0
The loss is especially disappointing as SAW are a "dead" roster
but the team set to make multiple changes after this event
Complexity currently has a clear schedule and will need to regroup as the rest of 2025 looms large for the team
PGL have announced the English-language talent for PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025
The Romanian tournament organizer has assembled many of the top names in the game including Richard Lewis
six NA names have been tapped to bring the action to fans
Tres "stunna" Saranthus is set to host the desk alongside Richard Lewis
while James "BanKs" Banks will be doing sideline and player events in Romania
Alex "Mauisnake" Ellenberg and Dustin "dusT" Mouret are joined by Jacob "Pimp" Winneche and Sudhen "Bleh" Wahengbam
with dusT working his first event in the year
the talent has been split into an onsite team and a remote team
and Alex "Machine" Richardson being in person while Adam "Dinko" Hawthorne
and Harry "JustHarry" Russell will be remote
The full talent list for IEM Katowice 2025 is as follows:
PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 is set to start on February 14th
They fall to Virtus.Pro in PGL Cluj-Napoca and are now 0-2 and one series loss from elimination
They have not only not won a single series in 2025; they haven't even won a map yet this year
D2 was a close affair until the second half
Complexity took a 7-5 lead from their CT side into the second period but would only win a single round while playing as Ts
VP won the map 13-8 and Petr "fame" Bolyshev shined on the CT side
Complexity would make the second map a much closer competition
but that doesn't really count for much in the grand scheme of things
but Complexity flipped the script to bring the match to overtime
powered by Hakon "hallzerk" Fjaerli's 15-7 scoreline while playing on the CT side
The removal of Vertigo is hurting the North American mix
and they haven't had many opportunities to play Train despite a clear willingness to play the new map.Complexity will be back in action tomorrow to try to avoid elimination in Cluj

The 2025 Transylvania Open kicks off on Monday with five singles main draw matches at WTA Cluj-Napoca
That includes two Romanians who will be hoping to excite their home crowd
we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate

but from time to time she can grab a win on any surface
Especially in a matchup where her extreme forehand grip won’t be pressured
Viktoriya Tomova can certainly track down balls though and she will force the Egyptian to literally blast the court
Normally it would really be a great opportunity for Sherif to grab the rare win off clay
but after her performance in Linz last week it’s kind of hard to trust she’ll execute her game well enough here
The step up Suzan Lamens took in her game at the tail end of last year was very impressive
It’s already brought her a first WTA Tour title and she’s ranked pretty deep inside the Top 100 now
Anna Bondar isn’t to be underestimated though and qualifying to the main draw can help her enter this encounter with plenty of momentum
But Lamens is probably the better player and won their only clash in Hong Kong just a few months ago
Caroline Dolehide was playing an indoor event on another side of the globe last week and was unfortunate to run into top-seeded Anna Kalinskaya in the opening round
But she gave her a good fight and her weaponry should generally translate to these conditions quite well (even without that much experience)
Daria Snigur posted a very nice win over Anca Todoni in the qualifying
but will need to respond to some very serious power coming from the American here
But she’s a former finalist at this event and with home crowd support
this time she might actually produce the (milder) upset
Sorana Cirstea has been hinting at retirement in her recent interviews
which is very understandable considering she spent the entire second half of last year injured
But she did get a win on the board in Linz last week and probably should have won even more comfortably against Arantxa Rus
The ball-striking quality is still there to be accessed when she shakes off the rust
If she can play anything close to her best level
Marina Stakusic might be a little outmatched
