An Ariana Grande tweet from 13 years ago saying she wanted to play Glinda in Wicked has resurfaced and fans can’t cope
The film version of Wicked recently hit the cinemas
becoming an instant hit with fans of the musical and making $164.2m globally in its opening weekend
In the production, Grande stars as Glinda as the film explores the backstory of two powerful witches, Glinda and Elphaba. The latter is portrayed by the British actress Cynthia Erivo
It seems that playing Glinda was the role of a lifetime for pop singer Grande
who tweeted in 2011 that it would be her “dream”
On 1 December 2011, Grande shared on social media: “Loved seeing Wicked again… amazing production
Made me realize again how badly I want 2 play Glinda at some point in my life
It didn’t take fans long to suggest that Grande manifested the role
as many praised her portrayal of Glinda in the film
“Her power of manifesting is something serious,” one fan wrote
Another said: “I genuinely couldn’t imagine a better person for the role though
Someone else said: “No one deserved or worked for this role as much as Ariana Grande did.”
One X/Twitter user said: “Coming clean and sharing that I started fighting tears the moment she opened her mouth in the movie because I was thinking about how she was fulfilling her lifelong dream like omg.”
look how all of Ari’s dreams come to reality
another said what we are all thinking – “2011 was 13 years ago??”
Despite much high praise, Wicked's director Jon M. Chu hit out at some critics who have claimed the film looks “washed-out” on cinema screens

in consortium with FCC Construction and Suez
has completed the remodelling and expansion project of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Glina
The execution of the WWTP expansion and improvement works has posed a great technical challenge since it has been developed while the current facilities were in operation
The WWTP's work has included the construction of a new pre-treatment line with a capacity of 4.5 m³/s
the construction of a new biological treatment line with a capacity of 8.9 m³/s
the remodelling of a line of the existing biological treatment
the construction of 24 secondary clarifiers with a capacity of 4.5 m³/s and the expansion of the existing sludge dehydration facilities
The construction of a sludge reuse plant from the WWTP has also been carried out with a treatment capacity of 173 tons of dry matter per day
This plant will significantly reduce the volume of total sludge produced at the WWTP through incineration technology and will carry out an energy recovery process
generating part of the electricity consumed in the process
the new treatment capacity of the plant will reach 12 m³/s
which is equivalent to more than 1 million cubic meters per day
a capacity for which a time horizon of the year 2040 has been taken into account
when the plant will treat the water of up to 2,400,000 inhabitants
the population of Bucharest and the rest of Ilfov County
full compliance with all effluent quality parameters is ensured at the same time in accordance with current Romanian and European regulations
The project has been executed by a consortium formed by Aqualia
both in charge of the expansion of the plant
responsible for the construction of the sludge incinerator
in addition to treating all the wastewater
will co-generate energy thanks to the incineration of the sludge
Aqualia has been working for more than 15 years in Romania
where it has previously developed the Agnita and Dumbraveni treatment plants

Drvni centar CEO Elmor Baraković said the new energy plant is several times more powerful than the existing plant which has a capacity of 1.2 MW of electrical and 4.5 MW of heat energy
That facility already supplies power and heat to Drvni centar wood processing facilities and several public buildings in the town of Glina which is becoming self-sufficient in terms of power
The new power facilities will supply energy to the newly-opened furniture industry products plant
The Drvni centar is owned by the Zagreb-based Sherif company which employs 350 people and is known as one of the leading wood processing companies in the region
Drvi Centar Glina exports wood products and lumber to several countries in the European Union
The company has eight wood drying plants with a capacity of 125 cubic meters each and five steaming plans with a total capacity of 400 cubic meters

In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake
International Medical Corps deployed personal protective equipment (PPE) and an Emergency Response Team to assess the damage in Petrinja
Critical needs in the health sector include PPE
and two additional temporary structures to facilitate continued delivery of healthcare services
At least seven people were killed and scores injured after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck central Croatia on December 29
The quake—the strongest recorded in 140 years—struck just after noon local time about 30 miles southeast of the capital Zagreb
The earthquake led to widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure
including the region’s largest hospital and a variety of other healthcare-related facilities
Hundreds of thousands of people were left without power
and travel has been widely disrupted as officials continue to assess damage to roads
the area has suffered from strong aftershocks
a 4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in the same area
just 4 miles (7 kilometers) west-northwest of the December 29 quake
International Medical Corps deployed more than $50,000 worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) to support Croatian health authorities involved in relief efforts
We also deployed an Emergency Response Team from our Croatia office to conduct an assessment of the damage and critical needs in Petrinja
Our team is working closely with the Croatian Ministry of Health’s Crisis Management Center to evaluate needs and coordinate opportunities to connect resources with those affected by the earthquake
Based on discussions with the Ministry of Health (MoH)
a clear priority is to restore primary healthcare services in the affected region
four temporary structures to serve as primary healthcare centers while rehabilitation efforts are underway;
support for the replacement of a damaged ambulance unit; and
co-financing to support the rehabilitation of the major health centers in Petrinja and Glina
Both health centers in Petrinja and Glina have been deemed unsalvageable
and will need to be demolished and completely rebuilt
the MoH intends to open temporary facilities to support the healthcare needs of the local population
International Medical Corps is concluding procurement
and arranging deployment of two temporary health structures that will be used in Glina to restore primary healthcare delivery service
International Medical Corps also completed the delivery of food
hygiene items and personal protective equipment (masks) worth $50,000
in collaboration with the Wings of Help Germany and Croatian Red Cross (CRC)
to meet the immediate needs of displaced families
Our Emergency Response Team is temporarily based in Zagreb
to coordinate with authorities the dispatch of the temporary health structures and to oversee the distribution of supplies to the affected population
primarily in rural areas that received less assistance than larger population centers
International Medical Corps will continue to collaborate with the MoH to identify additional opportunities for support
Critical needs currently include two additional temporary health structures to ensure primary care access in the affected regions
and medical equipment to replace critical-care equipment that was damaged during the earthquake
There also is a concern that the current turmoil may lead to a surge of COVID-19 cases
with hundreds displaced and sheltered in government-organized accommodation or with families in crowded conditions
International Medical Corps’ team will continue to work with local partners to address these critical needs and help the MoH secure access to healthcare for affected populations
The city of Bucharest has chosen a consortium of Aqualia
FCC Construcción and Suez to modernise and enlarge the Glina wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for a total value of EUR 113 million

2020 – A day after the devastating Petrinja earthquake
and Croatians pulling together with huge hearts.
My first and only previous visit to Petrinja was in the winter of 2003
I went to pick up a Ukrainian employee of OSCE and his son
The son had a broken leg and my task was to transport him to hospital in Zagreb
I remember very little apart from the snow
and the many destroyed buildings after years of war and enemy occupation less than a decade previously.
Not much good has happened to the people of Petrinja and surrounding areas in the 25 years since the war finished
emigration – a sadly common story in continental Croatia outside the capital Zagreb
An earthquake measuring 6.2 was felt in ten other countries and every part of Croatia yesterday – it was my first earthquake experience
140 km away – powerful enough to have us leave the house immediately
it was clear that a major tragedy was unfolding
International messages and pledges came pouring in
and international interest in the live updates was huge
so that perhaps an in-depth account of the situation on the ground might help people understand the scale of the tragedy
as well as painting a realistic picture of what was happening on the ground.
picking up TCN colleague Marc Rowlands from Zagreb on the way
Never having done anything like this before
we decided to start in the small village of Majske Poljane
where four of the seven deaths had occurred
and where the mayor had claimed that only 10% of buildings were not damaged.
The mayor was not exaggerating.
and our hearts sank the more we drove along the narrow main road
How does a community recover from something like this
A shell-shocked man was standing by the side of the road
he told me that he was a war veteran and had fought side by side with an Englishman in Vinkovci in 1992 in the 109th Brigade
“Was his name Steve?” I asked, the only Englishman I knew in Vinkovci who fought for Croatia (and DEFINITELY the only Englishman to open a pub in a field in the middle of nowhere in eastern Croatia).
or recognise me after all these years.” I suggested we try and sent Steve the photo above to find out – the reply came back that the face was familiar
Such is the smallness of the village that is Croatia.
While Vladimir’s house was in reasonable condition
the same could not be said of the neighbours’ house across the road
inhabited only by at least 10 horses that I counted
I told various media colleagues I came across today about the horses
and they featured on the national news this evening
and I recently heard that a container of help has arrived at the house
Ours was not the only car with Varazdin plates in Majske Poljane
Croatians and foreigners with their cars filled with food
to help them through this difficult period.
Vladimir had already received a visit from the Red Cross yesterday
as the need for the rest was perhaps greater with others.
It was a theme of the day – cars from all over Croatia (here
Nasice) filled with supplies to help the people of Majske Poljane
Of all the countries I have lived and travelled in
never have I seend a nation come together in time of crisis in the way Croatia does
As my heart was breaking with the horror scenes all around
it was also beaming with pride at the efforts of my adopted homeland.
The humans of Majske Poljane may have been confused by what had happened
From those horses to the bleating sheep and many dogs either wandering around confused or guarding houses which no longer existed
the loneliness and loss of direction of beloved pets was as poignant as anything I saw today.
We made our way back through the mist to the other side of Majske Poljane
just part of the emergency response.
mission complete for the first tent.
We headed on to the nearest town, Glina
waiting for the authorities to collect them
This is the photo a friend from Petrinja sent me yesterday
Cleaning this up was going to take forever
We couldn’t believe how clean the streets of Glina were
until we saw the local teams in action.
Some things will be impossible to fix.
removing loose debris and making buildings as safe as possible
Lots of loose chimneys were removed in the region today
but there was plenty to observe on the way
A local told me that the church is only a few years old
having being rebuilt after the Homeland War.
we decided to follow things that interested us
Such as the Red Cross on quad bikes delivering emergency water.
It was hard to keep up as they went house to house
with local residents coming out to collect their allocation
One of the most heartwrenching sites of the day were the numerous families sitting in their gardens and yards outside
many just sat outside in the cold and waited
There were so many incredible photos to be taken
but neither of us wanted to be that intrusive.
But perhaps a flavour in this collage from a LinkedIn contact.
whose collapsed buildings have become the most iconic of this latest disaster.
the strangest thing… Look the other way into the centre of the square to find a beautiful Advent in Petrinja park
seemingly oblivious to the chaos all around.
A video tour of a tale of two Petrinjas in one square.
And I thought back to my friend’s photo the previous day – the streets of Petrinja were incredibly clean so soon after such a catastrophe.
why people were just sitting around in their front gardens was that there was nothing open
Cafes and restaurants have been closed for weeks due to corona
but the shops and supermarkets were also shut
But there was little chance of the people of Petrinja going hungry
as there was help from every corner of Croatia
I stopped to take a photo of ‘Sinj Loves Petrinja.’
“What would you like?” asked the man in a strong Sinj accent
“I would love a cold beer,” I replied.
I don’t need anything but thank you.”
A woman approached asking if they had any bread
and she took what she needed for her family
gifted by people from all over the country
today – it was heartwarming to see.
Everything is being very well-coordinated by the local civil protection units.
Marc wanted to take some photos of something along the road
and I found myself watching this old couple whose house had been damaged
urgent repairs to the roof a priority.
a team of volunteers appeared with a ladder and set to work. Such things happened all over the region
There was one appointment I had that I was keen to keep – finally meeting Josip Granic and the amazing team from the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service
whose headquarters were in the Lidl car park.
We are curiously bonded by both being unlikely male models (ok, he far more likely than me) in the Varteks ‘Imperfect Guy in a Perfect Suit’ campaign. Josip is a big TCN fan and was very helpful in a great feature on the amazing team at the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service by TCN earlier this year – Meet HGSS The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service.
Despite working through the night without any sleep
Josip found time for an interview with Marc
I was expecting much more traffic congestion
but the police kept things moving.
What the police could not control were more tremors
Alone in the car again as Marc took more photos
and the earth was definitely moving underneath me – a 4.1 earthquake I was to discover later
Par for the course in Croatia in 2020 and nothing to write home about.
bringing the essential items to the locations which needed them most.
Some with memories of the celebrations of a happier festive season
There was time for one more stop before returning to Zagreb – the church in the village of Zazina
Its front and spire no longer there.
Ripped from the rest of the building.
This is how the church had looked just 24 hours earlier. I learned later that the church organist had been cleaning the organ when the earthquake struck
The frescoed walls inside still there to see.
as the neighbour emerged without a scratch
young does not necessarily guarantee safety from earthquakes.
We drove back to Zagreb in relative silence
each lost in their own thoughts and suffering from the early start and the trauma of the day.
Croatians are the most resilient people I know
There are thousands of heroic examples of this being performed on a daily basis at the moment
and I applaud each and every one of them who has risen to the task.
And let’s not forget the generosity of the diaspora and international community as well
The response to this disaster has been magnificent
Help IS getting to those who need it most on the ground
and the donations ARE making a difference.

Plenković recalled Vlado Gotovac's historic speech 30 years ago in front the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) 5th Military District Command in Zagreb
when he said that "the aggressor generals will die in the desolation of their dead hearts and their families will be ashamed of them"
the prime minister said today could be called "the day of the call of conscience" and that in that sense Gotovac's words sounded even stronger today
we won't stop searching for the 1,858 disappeared and killed persons," the prime minister said
On behalf of the federation of associations of families whose members disappeared in the 1991-1995 Homeland War
the federation's leader Ljiljana Alvir said some had been looking for their family members for 26 years
many had died and some had no more strength and were tormented they would have to pass the search on to their children or grandchildren
She asked Croatian institutions to be tougher with Serbia
"there are no concessions until this issue is resolved
there is no excuse for Serbia joining the European Union"
She told everyone who has information about the suffering of the disappeared
relocated graves to contact institutions and share the information
"If you're concerned about your own and the safety of your family
there are ways to deliver the information," Alvir said

Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman laid a wreath on behalf of the government at the Suza (Tear) monument in Glina ahead of the meeting
He told Hina there was evidence of murders
there were archives of detainees and the disappeared and mass graves and they should be available to the Croatian judiciary
"Revealing the truth about the 1,858 disappeared and punishing the perpetrators of crimes against them is a precondition for progress in relations with Serbia," Grlić Radman said
He said that as the minister of foreign affairs he was using every opportunity of the forum on human rights and with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and at the human rights committees of the United Nations
as the universal guardian of international order and peace
"to let it be heard that Serbia was a country which bears the guilt and responsibility of Milošević's regime and that it should cooperate"
He stressed that it wasn't only a bilateral issues but an issue of the EU acquis
that it was difficult to encourage Serbia's activity
that they didn't want that and that in fact
"Serbia should face the past also in the interest of its future
to free future generations from that guilt

Dragan Vasiljkovic was charged with murdering and torturing civilians and prisoners of war during Croatia's war of independence
Link copiedShareShare articleA witness in a Croatian criminal case against Australian citizen Dragan Vasiljkovic has handed crucial evidence to prosecutors that implicates the paramilitary commander in war crimes
Vasiljkovic was charged with murdering and torturing civilians and prisoners of war during Croatia's war of independence in the early 1990s
Croatian prosecutors also alleged that he orchestrated an attack in 1991 on the town of Glina
in which at least one civilian and German journalist Egon Scotland were killed
Mr Scotland's widow Christiane Schlotzer has given prosecutors a video tape of a press conference she obtained that Vasiljkovic gave the day after the Glina assault
she said the paramilitary leader widely known as Captain Dragan boasts of his command of troops that swept the Croatian and Muslim population from the town
"He said in many cases that he was the commander
"There's no doubt that he was in Glina and he was commanding the operation."
Vasiljkovic has previously denied committing war crimes
who wrote about Vasiljkovic years before he was eventually tracked down in Perth and then arrested in Sydney
said the video tape evidence was important
"I think it's extremely important because it reinforces what is already on the public record out of his mouth as reported in the Sydney Morning Herald at the time
that he was bragging about the fact that his men in assaulting Glina were prepared to massacre people who were taking refuge in places like hospitals,"Aarons said
Croatian prosecutors issued an indictment against Mr Vasijkovic on Friday, six months after he was extradited from Australia following a 10-year legal battle.
The Belgrade-born 62-year-old emigrated to Melbourne with his mother as a teenager, and returned to his homeland during the Balkan conflicts where he rose to become a key ally of Serbian dictator Slobodan Milosevic.
Ms Schlotzer's husband Egon Scotland was shot dead in a car near the Yugoslavian town of Glina. (Supplied)
Ms Schlotzer said she had been waiting 25 years for justice.
"I'm very pleased that it's now finally happening after such a long time, I think it's important that justice is being done," she told the ABC from Munich.
"It was well-known that [Dragan] was in Glina … it was not a secret that he was commanding the whole operation, and it was also not a secret that they were shooting especially at journalists."
The trial is due to take place in coming months and Ms Schlotzer is set to be a witness.
"It's a very symbolic case for Croatia," she said.
"It also shows that nationalism is a poison, nationalism is very dangerous, and it was this ideology of nationalism who created this war."

Erivo softly nods at the surprise sentiment
Fans were quick to respond to the observation
enjoying the idea of Glinda being in the LGTBQ+ community

This is one of the many times Grande and Erivo's press interviews have landed them in headlines. Social media has criticized them for the amount of times the multi-talented artists have cried while speaking about the movie, though the two have pled for some grace. Grande shared with ET
Why does emotional availability scare you so?"
Nonetheless, part one has already received immense critical praise
Grande is said to have given an "Oscar-worthy performance," putting her as a top contender of Variety's best-supporting actress predictions alongside Zoe Saldaña for Emilia Perez
