I am so sorry for this family and communities loss
but I am almost positive that God brought him home for a reason

It’s been a whirlwind year for Beth Haller LaSala and Christina Livada, personally and professionally. Together, they run ChappyWrap
a Boston-based brand that produces high-quality blankets inspired by New England
The company has been around for 13 years now
customers have been going crazy for the cozy
Jacquard-woven blankets that come in a variety of patterns and sizes
They’re made with both home decor and snuggling in mind
“That’s really why we do what we do,” says Livada
we want to spread comfort to more and more people.”
Haller LaSala’s original business partner decided to retire
but Haller LaSala herself wasn’t ready to move on
her casual collaborator and informal sounding board
“Christina has brought a huge breath of fresh air to the company,” says Haller LaSala
Bringing Livada onboard marked the beginning of a year-long turnaround for ChappyWrap
“I was working as a speech language pathologist in a private school setting
“It has been and continues to be a steep learning curve for me
and she has obviously been running the company for a long time
but it was a lot for me to learn — a big change
After Livada’s and Haller LaSala’s collaborative repositioning, ChappyWrap has developed an undeniable brand identity. “We transitioned the direction the company was going in,” explains Livada. “We redid our website and our logo. We released a bunch of new designs. We spent the year revising the company and saying, ‘Who do we want to be?’ It’s been such a fun creative process.”
One thing’s for sure, the Boston-based brand embodies New England to its core. Customers can shop 75 blanket designs — 26 of these have just been introduced — broken into collections named, “Classics,” “Places” and “Heritage.” The blankets also come in three different sizes, as well as new baby-sized offerings.
“We definitely have strong New England ties and roots,” says Livada. “Even with those designs that are less themed, less nautical, less preppy or coastal, we’ve drawn inspiration from New England in their name. We have a new neutral pattern called Oyster Cove Diamonds. We have one that’s called Long Wharf Herringbone.”
“As part of the rebranding, we broke all our blankets down into various collections,” she says. “We have a Classics collection which is more like home decor, more neutral colors and patterns. Things that you would use on the back of your couch in your living room as an accent. We have the Nantucket collection because we know that we have a fun, preppy, nautical side.”
Haller LaSala gets excited over ChappyWrap’s Places collection, aka map blankets. “It started out with the Cape and the Islands, and for the last couple of years, that blanket has been our bestseller,” she says. “So, we added a lot of other places. We have people recommend different geographic areas where they would like to see those blankets. They’re very unique, which is why people enjoy those a lot.”
“We are so proud of our products, we’ve always been very proud of the quality and the manufacturing and everything the products stand for, and what they really add to people’s homes and lives and families.”
After taking some quieter moments this summer to enjoy personal time together — Haller LaSala primarily lives in Charleston, South Carolina, while Livada lives in the Boston area — and the early arrival of Livada’s beautiful new baby girl named Ella, the mother-daughter business partners are ready to face New England’s cooler temperatures once more.

Beth LaSala founded ChappyWrap
a brand inspired by a family blanket originally purchased in Germany that she grew up using and passed down to her own children
who now serves as ChappyWrap’s vice president of sales and marketing and runs the company with her mother
the blanket was constantly loved and fought over
“The blanket really felt like home and family to us,” Livada says
“It was obviously very well made and durable to be able to last so long and survive so many washes
when my mom went to look for another blanket like it
she discovered they really no longer existed on the market in this country.”
Since that level of quality wasn’t available LaSala decided to create her own blanket after extensive research about the “blanket market” and the manufacturing process
“Most blankets on the market in this country are made of 100% polyester or polar fleece — a manufactured fiber — which means they are not made to last and do not wash well - they shrink
“On the other end of the spectrum are wool blankets
alpaca blankets - high end products but ones that are not actually very warm
soft or comfortable and are dry-clean only.”
The quality of blankets has decreased over the years due to the increased use of those manufactured fibers — they’re cheaper to produce and use in the manufacturing process
When manufacturers started using the newer materials natural fibers were eliminated from the process
noting that “most blankets” on the market are entirely made of polyester
is made with natural cotton and as a result
the manufacturing process is a bit different
“The machines necessary to produce blankets like ours do not even exist in the U.S.,” she explained
Thanks to the natural materials used to create a ChappyWrap
it hits the “sweet spot,” according to Livada
natural-cotton blend blanket that is made to last a lifetime and is machine washable and dryable,” she says
Livada says that people take it to the beach
on a picnic and then throw it in the wash and can use it indoors on the couch or in bed
“We say we're on a mission to make the world's best blanket,” Livada explains
the company went through a relaunch after LaSala’s co-founder retired and Livada joined the team
“We wanted to work together to breathe new life into the company and take it in a new direction,” Livada says
“I came on board full time in June 2018 and we launched a major rebranding effort and new marketing strategy.”
they’ve focused their marketing efforts on Instagram and partnerships with brands and influencers paying close attention to brands that have aligning aesthetic and influencers who they believe will love the product
30% of ChappyWrap’s overall site traffic comes from social media referrals
“Our sales are up 250% in the last year,” Livada says
Our social media following is up 520% percent.”
Livada and LaSala are thinking outside the box for new marketing efforts
to include her “nautical Ginger Jars” design on their blankets — the result sold out in less than an hour
so many people have been at home as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic
ChappyWrap has seen a bump in brand awareness as consumers are on the hunt for new and cozy home decor
and we have really felt that demand increase,” Livada says
And getting to “spread comfort” is an element of being in the blanket business that Livada and LaSala love
Home » Agriculture » Growth of Regenerative Farming in Greece
Greek farmers and outreach programs are working to demonstrate that regenerative agricultural practices offer a solution by improving soil health and increasing water retention
has the potential to reduce water evaporation and run-off
while improving soil water storage capacity
Recognizing the benefits of regenerative farming, the Greek nonprofit Southern Lights supports is helping food producers interested in transitioning to these more sustainable practices
They launched their Regenerative Farming Support Program in 2021 at a time when “the smell of fire was in the air,” Sheila Darmos
Southern Light offers a knowledge-sharing platform to six pilot farms through their Support Program. In coordination with the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania
Southern Lights will share their findings with other Greek farmers to expand regenerative agriculture nationwide
“Some of the aims of a regenerative farming operation are to increase the water storage capacity and create a microclimate on the farm that causes a decreased fluctuation in temperature and humidity while hedges are used to minimize the exposure to wind,” Darmos tells Food Tank
Southern Lights promotes wildfire resilience through regenerative practices that keep water in the soil
such as abundant cover crops and fire-proof fencing along property lines
At the Market Garden Pilot Farm, traditional almond tree monocultures were intercropped with pecans, elderberry, and poplar trees to boost water retention and offer more vegetation for additional produce, timber, organic matter, and overall water retention. Meanwhile at the Pomegranate Pilot Farm
existing tree lines were interplanted with figs and Eucalyptus trees
The project launched with six pilot sites across mainland Greece to represent highly consumed and representative Greek food items
they plan to expand to more crops and sites to encourage peer-to-peer education for farmers and public officials alike
“A farmer who transitions to a farming model where their goal goes way beyond growing a crop for an economic yield,” Darmos tells Food Tank
“One has to find the selling channels that will encourage
support and pay for this ecosystem service the farmer is providing through his agricultural activity.”
And Livada Natural Farm
an island in the Cyclades chain just southeast of the mainland in the Aegean Sea offers another example of success built on regenerative farming
moved back to Andros after years of studying permaculture and the relationship between ecological processes and agriculture
The Farm recently received grant funding to support the farm from the Market Gardner Institute
But their success has also grown through strong relationships with the local community
“With this professional engagement that brings social engagement
we build trust with people,” Kostis tells Food Tank
Kostis studied various topics in Athens to support the development of this farm. Some of his fields of study include social entrepreneurship, social permaculture
engaging in practices such as no-till was a game changer for Livada
“We are able to mimic nature in this annual system.”
Although the practices promoted by Livada and Southern Lights have yet to become more widespread
Darmos believes that young farmers are rapidly realizing the benefits of regenerative farming
“The great shift happens when we realize our responsibility and possibility to play a key role in regenerating our ecosystems,” Darmos tells Food Tank
“but also build businesses that are regenerative to the people involved.”
