There have long been songs in which women turn the tables on despicable men who have acted shamefully
Think Peggy Lee and how scathing she was in “Why Don’t You Do Right?”
deadly in “You’re Blasé”…But now think again
Perhaps men in the past escaped too lightly
Singer-songwriter-actress Siret Tuula notes with some satisfaction that “every man who has entered my life has ended up as a song.” “To Mr.X” (Lazy Cat Records) is her highly impressive debut album with a stunningly good band
And since Tuula is from Tallinn in Estonia
a mere seven and a half degrees South of the Arctic Circle
there are songs here (not all of them) in which revenge is served up genuinely
Siret Tuula’s unashamedly combative spirit also shines through from what I have read of her biography
Not only does she have a degree in the law
she has an impressive set of skills to fight back
and also undertaken “challenges in icy waters.” Joking aside
a great combination of vocal and dramatic presence
and the capacity to portray a whole range of different moods extremely vividly – (maybe that owes something to her previous role as TV a weather presenter…)
I’m hearing that there was a real buzz at the completely packed-out album launch a couple of days ago
and I’m looking forward to linking to the video of that when we get it
Eevalotta Matikainen and Martin Söderbacka
we find anger and resentment stirring slightly below the surface
“(I never) Fall out of You” is a playful song about a relationship with a celebrity who has decided unilaterally to retreat
The music is upbeat in a charming slightly vacuous way
as if it’s the theme for a TV game show
but the words are from a different place altogether: a deeply despairing “I fall apart…”
“Your Best Friend Got Your Girl” is the classic Tristan and Iseult myth
here seen through the eyes of a triumphant and upbeat Iseult
even innocently as a verse with guitar colla voce (the very fine Karl Madis Pennar)
but that is a cleverly disguised diversion from what is on its way
Tuula sets off on a succession of hard-swinging victory laps
in full knowledge of precisely where her feelings of triumph are going to inflict the most damage
She lands precisely aimed blows on her ex with these words: “Dancing close to him
This album has other sides too; all is certainly not dark with Nordic døm and gløm
sybaritic duet with fellow singer Kristjan Ilumäe to the accompaniment of a relay race of jazz soloists in quick succession
The album notes say it’s about “a spontaneous decision to leave the party with someone charming
“Only Man in my Life” has a twist at the end
Could this finally be the bliss of connubial commitment
not exactly… We are left to discover from the very last sounds on the album that the true recipient of her affection is in fact…a contented pooch
Musical standards throughout are just fabulous
and the album has been very well produced in Los Angeles by Paul Grundman
Special praise is certainly due to the main pianist
His contribution to the wonderfully slow-burning song “Irony” is just stellar
One might have a slight cavil: maybe a native English English-speaker could have ironed out some occasional infelicities in the language
There is absolutely no mistaking Tuula’s authenticity and clarity of expression
I genuinely hope that I have the chance one day to witness this singer and her great band performing

Reader question: We occasionally rent out our house in France when we are away
but will we need a siret number to do this
Although you do not state if this is your main or a second home and whether or not you are a resident of France it may make little difference
According to official French sources any furnished holiday rental of a home you own whether main or secondary
requires you to register for a business siret number.
which does not usually require you to pay business social cotisations
Read more: Many gite owners in France forced into complex and costly tax regime
This was in the past not generally enforced in any event for those undertaking a minimum amount of non-professional letting
However the rules have tightened in recent years
If it is a second home you should also declare letting a meublé de tourisme (furnished holiday let) to the mairie
A few cities also require this with a main home
In some communes you will be given a registration number that should be quoted in any adverts
The siret registration process can be undertaken online

Whether you need to pay your taxes or apply for social security
read on for more on tax identification numbers (TIN) and other IDs in France
By Una Dimitrijevic
you must apply for a national registration number as soon as possible
Additionally, if you plan to work and pay taxes in France
you’ll also need a tax ID (TIN) and maybe a business ID
you’ll find all the steps to understand and apply for the relevant ID numbers in France:
If you’re planning to move to France for a while
these are the main ID numbers that you will need:
The national registration number acts as your social security number while in France. It is sometimes referred to as the NIR (numéro d’identification au répertoire de l’Insee)
but its most common name is the numéro de sécu
Each number is unique and comprises 13 digits
This data provides information about your sex
The number ends with a two-digit control key
your employer will reference it on your pay slips
you will need to have your carte Vitale at the ready
Within the French healthcare sector, your national registration number usually corresponds to your national health identity (identité nationale de santé – INS)
The healthcare system uses this number to identify you and to differentiate between patients with the same name
It’s worth noting that the healthcare professional may ask you
for proof of identity to check against the INS
Although the carte Vitale will allow you to access France’s highly subsidized healthcare
Guide to getting health insurance in France
Finally, employers will also use your numéro de sécu when they register you as an employee. They use it to pay your employee contributions. The number also allows you to receive family benefits, insurance in case of illness or an accident at work, and a retirement pension
live in France without a national registration number
you will not be able to seek employment or access subsidized healthcare or social security
If you are employed in France, your employer will register you for social security. You will need to display a valid ID and evidence that you can stay long-term in France (for example, a long-stay visa)
You may also need to show a translated birth certificate – check with your employer to find out which documents they require
Meanwhile, those who are self-employed or in a liberal profession should contact the primary health insurance fund Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM). You can find the closest office to you on the Ameli website. You can also apply through the CAF
Your French employer can initiate the request on your behalf
This tax number is used to reference an individual taxpayer
It’s a 13-digit number that starts with a 0
The equivalent tax ID number for companies is the 9-digit numéro Siren (see below)
Once you have a French tax number and file your taxes, the fiscal department will have access to any information that you and your employer provide. This includes earnings, property ownership, bank accounts in France and abroad
and all other information related to your tax declaration
You won’t need a TIN in France to carry out legal or financial transactions such as opening a bank account
you will need it for all tax-related procedures
such as paying your income or property tax and accessing your fiscal information
Taxes in France: a guide to the French tax system
Once you have your TIN, you can file all your taxes online through your personal account on impots.gouv.fr
A French TIN is necessary for all individuals and organizations with a tax obligation in France
It is not a legal requirement to have a tax number in France – authorities don’t go after expats who don’t have one
you cannot register as a taxpayer in France
This may lead to problems carrying out certain financial activities in France and calculation errors for your tax liabilities
Having a tax number in France also enables you to register with the online tax portal, submit your French tax return, and pay your taxes online
You normally receive your French TIN automatically after filling in and submitting your first tax return in France
The number will appear on your income tax statement that the French tax authorities send you
If you wish to obtain a tax identification number in France before submitting your first tax return, contact your local tax office (Centre des Impots)
you can also go into your personal online space or ask the tax authority to post it to you
The Siren is made up of nine numbers that are unique to your business and linked to its activities
The Siret consists of the Siren number followed by five more digits
the numéro interne de classification (NIC)
These final numbers identify where your activity is based
so if you move your business address to another region
It must appear on all your company’s official documentation
Whether you want to become a freelancer in France or go into areas like commerce or agriculture
you’ll need to apply for a Siren and Siren business ID
simply contact the registration center linked to your type of activity:
Una had already lived in three countries and learned three languages by the time she was nine
She has a hard time staying still but has now seemingly settled in Lille
Una studied languages and European politics before working in the arts for a few years
She’s now a freelance writer and translator and is loving her solitary workplace
As you put more and more data in the cloud, you need to rely on security automation to keep it secure at scale. AWS recently launched Amazon Macie
a fully managed service that uses machine learning and pattern matching to help you detect
and better protect your sensitive data stored in the AWS Cloud
Many data breaches are not the result of malicious activity from unauthorized users
but rather from mistakes made by authorized users
To monitor and manage the security of sensitive data
we show you how to use custom data identifiers with Macie to identify sensitive data
you can start designing security controls that operate at scale to monitor and remediate risk automatically
Custom data identifiers can be used to highlight organizational proprietary data
imagine you’re an IT administrator for a manufacturing company that’s headquartered in France
Your company has acquired a few additional local subsidiaries
including an R&D facility in São Paulo
and in the process is classifying registration information
and product data into encrypted and non-encrypted storage
You want to identify sensitive data for the following three scenarios:
Figure 2: Brazil CPF and prototype number dataset
To use custom data identifiers to identify your organization’s sensitive information
The following steps introduce you to the Custom Data Identifier resource in Macie
follow the instructions below to create the custom data identifiers
After entering the settings and before selecting Submit
you should test your custom data identifier with sample data to confirm that it works
your console will look like what is shown in Figure 4
Figure 4: SIRET-NIC custom data identifier creation
Use the Evaluate section on the right-hand panel of the Macie console to confirm that the regex pattern and other configurations for your custom data identifier are correct
Follow the steps below to use the Evaluate section
Congrats on creating your first custom data identifier
Now use the same steps to create and test custom data identifiers for the Brazil CPF and prototyping naming convention scenarios
The Brazil CPF number usually shows up in the format of 000.000.000-00
Use the following values for the Brazil CPF scenario
Figure 6: Brazil CPF custom data identifier
Assume that your company has a very strict and regular naming scheme for prototype part numbers
You want to identify objects in S3 that contain references to private prototype parts
and so if we’re not careful it will cause Macie to flag objects that do not actually contain one of our prototype numbers
We suggest adding \b at the beginning and the end of the regular expression
The \b symbol means a “word boundary” and word boundaries are basically whitespace
or other things that are not letters and numbers
you limit the pattern so that you only match if the entire word matches the pattern
but STEP-AB123456 and P-XY123 will not match the pattern
This gives you finer grained control and reduces false positives
Use the following values for the prototyping name scenario
Figure 7: Prototyping naming custom data identifier
You should now see a page like the following figure
and Prototyping Naming custom data identifiers are successfully configured
Figure 8: Successfully configured custom data identifier
we have to create a bucket with some test data that we can scan
We’ve provided some sample data files that you can download
Follow these instructions to create a test bucket and load our test data into the test bucket
We created a bucket called bucketformacieuse; you have to choose another name because this one is already taken by us
Now you can create a job to scan your Amazon S3 bucket to detect and locate the data patterns defined in the SIRET-NIC
and Prototyping Naming custom data identifiers
Figure 9: Select your custom data identifiers
You now have a job in Macie to scan the Amazon S3 buckets you’ve chosen using the 3 custom data identifiers you created. More information about creating jobs is available in Running sensitive data discovery jobs in Amazon Macie
Macie will help you be secure when you’re effectively responding to the findings that it produces
we’ll show you how to review your findings manually
or see a collective summary of all findings
Figure 11: Findings detail page for the Brazil CPF custom data identifiers
Figure 12: Findings page for the French company file
Now that you’ve used Macie and the Custom Data Identifiers resource to obtain these findings
you can identify what data to place in encrypted storage
and what can be placed in non-encrypted storage when migrating to AWS
Macie and custom data identifiers provide an automated tool to help you enhance protection of your sensitive data by providing you the information to help detect and classify your data in the AWS Cloud
Custom Data Identifiers help you tell Macie what to look for
As you move more and more data to the cloud
you’ll need to make new identifiers and new rules
As your rules and identifiers grow you will need to create automation that responds to things that are found
perhaps a lambda function turns on encryption in a bucket when it finds sensitive data in that bucket
Or perhaps a function automatically applies tags to buckets where sensitive data is found
and those buckets and their owners start to appear on reports for audit and compliance
think about how you will automate responses at larger scale

Siren and Siret numbers are allocated when a business is created and listed on a directory called système informatique pour le répertoire des entreprises et des établissements (Sirene)
Sirene is managed by national statistics body the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques (Insee)
It contains a list of around 10million companies and can be consulted by any member of the public
The Siren (système d’identification du répertoire des entreprises) identifies the company according to the order of registration on the Sirene list
It remains the same throughout the life of the business and is used for all dealings with public bodies and administrative organisations
It only ceases to exist after the death or cessation of activity in a business run by one person
or liquidation and dissolution of a legal entity
Siret (système d’identification du répertoire des établissements) is the Siren number plus five extra numbers: the NIC
which identifies each different establishment belonging to a business
A company can therefore have several Sirets but only one Siren
A third code is needed for the registration of a company in the Sirene directory and that is the APE
This identifies the type of activity carried out by the business and is used mainly for gathering statistics
It is made up of four numbers and a letter
The APE code can be changed if a business switches activity and is done via the local
this will be the chambre des métiers et de l’artisanat
For most other kinds of business it is the chambre de commerce et d’industrie or Urssaf
You will automatically be allocated a Siren
Siret and APE when you create a business with your local CFE

The Vatican will host a Theological Symposium on Vocations on 17-19 February 2022
entitled “Toward a Fundamental Theology of the Priesthood”
The event was presented on Monday at the Holy See Press Office by Cardinal Marc Ouellett
The trio presented reports with the background and goals of next year’s Symposium
which will address the issue of clerical celibacy in the Latin rite and the priesthood of the baptized
Each of the three days will focus on a different theme
The first day will be dedicated to “Tradition and New Horizons”
A different Cardinal will preside over the reflections of each half-day
and Pope Francis is expected to offer participants a message at the end of the Symposium
linking its timing to the upcoming Vocations Sunday
He said the decision to hold the three-day Symposium was not taken lightly
given the health crisis set off by the pandemic
there is a certain urgency to explore the theology of the priesthood
especially after the recent Synods on the family
“to prolong the reflection and to promote a vocational movement facilitating the sharing of the various Church experiences all over the planet.”
Cardinal Ouellett said Pope Francis has often repeated his remark in 2015 that “the path of synodality is the path that God expects from the Church of the third millennium.”
requires “close collaboration between lay people
for the proclamation of the Gospel to the world through the attractive witness of Christian communities.”
He said the Symposium will seek to discover a “renewed vision” and “a way of valuing all vocations while respecting what is specific to each.”
who teaches theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University
described the urgency of the issues being addressed
“We see today that in many parts of the world
bishops and priests are struggling to identify the changes required for a priest to truly be a sentinel of the Kingdom of God,” she said
the Symposium will explore the foundation which links the ministerial priesthood to the priesthood of the baptized
Professor Tenace pointed out that ordained ministers are indispensable “because they guard the divine life through the Sacraments” while the people of God “guard the divine life by building up the Church in the witness of charity and the growth of charisms.”
means that the community of the baptized and priests share a mutual responsibility
The Symposium will also address the theology of vocation
Professor Tenace said each vocation builds up the Church in its own way
because the priesthood is identified with service rather than power
She noted that formation in seminaries is “often very poor precisely in discernment of vocation and formation in the life of communion.”
should help make the seminarian aware of the gift of celibacy
which is required in the Lain rite “as a prophetic witness of Christ’s priesthood”
“will help us understand that the crisis of priestly identity or of vocations” affects “the ongoing transformation of the whole Church as a body animated by the sap of the Spirit.”
the Rector of the Pontifical French Seminary
invited all seminary formators to follow next year’s Symposium as a way to help candidates for the priesthood to grow into good priests
Reflecting on the theology of the priesthood
will help seminarians understand the Latin Church’s requirement of celibacy and “to make a commitment with full knowledge of the facts.”
“The consecration of one’s entire life involves the entire person and can only be justified through a self-giving perspective of following Christ in a Trinitarian dynamic,” he said

Romania— Since the recent Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Feb
1 million refugees have fled the violence to neighboring countries
Nearly 140,000 have crossed the Romanian border

with hundreds of everyday volunteers and those representing the Romanian General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations offering relief to the people arriving from Ukraine
Many arrive after days-long journeys and tens of hours spent in a car or pedestrian queues at the Ukrainian border

“Some of them need to find their relatives
Others need Romanian road tax for their cars or phone sim cards

President of the Suceava County Council Gheorghe Flutur said this during the presentation of the strategy for the General Plan for the development of border infrastructure in Chernivtsi
the reconstruction of the Bucharest-Siret-Porubne highway was approved in Romania
The road will be built with European funds
We are obliged to take all measures required to stretch this road to Chernivtsi
and on to Poland with access to the motorway toward the Baltic States," Flutur said
He noted that such a highway connecting the Black Sea with the Baltic and Aegean seas is strategic for NATO
But in order for the currently existing Porubne-Siret checkpoint to allow even more cargo to pass through
Specific steps regarding such expansion were included in the presented strategy for the development of border infrastructure
Construction of new checkpoints and modernization of existing ones on the Ukrainian-Romanian border is laid down
the Romanian side undertakes to develop railway connections to the Romanian-Ukrainian border in order to increase the amount of cargo for cross-border operations between Ukraine and EU countries
"The Romanian border is one of the most important for us now due to its a huge potential..
Considering the situation on the Polish border
we must always have an alternative on how we can use our border checkpoints for exports," said the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure
He said that the plan for the development of border infrastructure was agreed at the governmental level in both countries
This is the first such plan among all of Ukraine's western neighbors
Based on the outcome of discussions and presentations
government officials from both countries agreed within the next two weeks to jointly apply to the European Commission for financing of the construction of new checkpoints and modernization of existing ones
the Agency will do its utmost to ensure that this year we have this project finalized and documentation for all checkpoints within Chernivtsi region assessed
Here it will be the checkpoint Bila Krynytsia
and in Zakarpattia region – Bila Tserkva
I hope that already this year we will have concrete plans for the construction of these new checkpoints," added the head of the State Reconstruction Agency
According to the State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania
this is the first strategic document between Ukraine and an EU member state
which concerns the branching of the checkpoint development system
Its main purpose is to facilitate the movement of goods and state border crossing
the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine received 18 modular bridges from partners

a long-standing family living near the Siret river
wanted to pay homage to the landscapes of their hometown
They found a wonderful place a few kilometers from the hometown, in the village of Doaga, located on the border between Vrancea and Galati counties. This is how the ZagaZaga Land resort was born, as a family business that brings foreign tourists to see the beauty Romania has to offer.
and it was developed out of our love for the Danube Delta
We wanted to bring the delta as close as possible to our home and we built everything you see today from scratch
you couldn’t take your boat through the channels like you can do today”
“The funds from the first project were only for the fish farming part. We built the sturgeon farm, dredged the lakes and built the canals,” the businesswoman explains.
several tens of thousands of tourists have visited the complex
“ZagaZaga customers are between 2 and 80 years old
We have organized many teambuilding events this year
We can say that corporate workers with above average income like to organize their events at the complex
We don’t have the exact number of customers
but there have been several hundred thousand,” added Camelia Dobrisan (pictured right)
Most customers are from Bucharest, as well as from the West of the country, while fewer come from nearby places, she explains. “For all the other activities within the complex, we have people coming from neighboring counties: Bacau, Vaslui, Braila and Buzau,” says the businesswoman.
the challenge for the following year is to attract as many foreign tourists as possible
by organizing festivals as well as through advertising campaigns
but we also have many who choose to stay for a whole week
there was the biggest blues festival in Romania
which had the famous trumpeter Arturo Sandoval taking part,” she says
The entrepreneur says that their busiest month is August
The entire business is supported by 60 employees
for the busy season period,” says the woman
Camelia Dobrisan wants to build fish farms in the near future
as well as fish processing capabilities to sell products in restaurants and shops
“We want to develop the whole complex and offer integrated services
We also want to increase our accommodation capacity from 200 to 800 places,” she explains
“We will also develop the agro-tourism component – we will arrange a sheepfold
where tourists will be able participate in the activities
We already have an orchard where tourists can pick apples
The most important business lesson is patience
“We have learned that this is a business where patience is the most important thing and we have learned

Kotka, who failed to be returned to the Riigkogu at the March 5 Riigikogu election, told Delfi (link in Estonian) that she plans to take on new challenges
saying: "One simply has to think about things
and there are moments in life when one has to make course corrections and see what the new challenges might be," adding that she had been able to identify some of these fresh challenges already
Kotka has been a Center Party member for nearly 20 years
and is a current board member and chair of the party's Lääne-Viru County branch
in addition to sitting on Väike-Maarja (Lääne-Viru County) rural municipal council
She has sat as an MP across three Riigikogu compositions
She was also one of the signatories to an appeal to put back a proposed emergency party congress from August to September
an appeal which on Friday proved successful
This congress will deal with party leadership elections
and at the time of writing involves a two-horse race featuring former minister Tanel Kiik and current Tallinn Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart
The Romanian Customs Authority informed that starting from 1 August 2024
as part of a pilot project initiated by the customs, transport operators who use TIR carnets along with sending advance cargo information via TIR-EPD will be able to use a priority lane dedicated to AEOs and empty trucks at the entry to Romania through two borders crossing points – Albița (adjacent to Leuseni on the Moldovan side) and Siret (adjacent to Porubne on the Ukrainian side)
The signs indicating such prioritisation will guide hauliers accordingly
Only TIR operators who have submitted TIR-EPD will be able to benefit from this additional facilitation mechanism
