lording over a severely short-handed Mures side 88-68 in a Group K match-up
SODERTALJE (FIBA Europe Cup) - Sodertalje Kings finally opened up their win tally in the FIBA Europe Cup Second Round, lording over a severely short-handed Mures side 88-68 in a Group K match-up between two previously winless teams
Having arrived to Sweden without the injured Goran Martinic and Andrew Barham, as well as Alhaji Mohammed
the Targu Mures club couldn't keep up with the red-hot shooting of Sodertalje and dropped to 0-3 in the standings
the bounce-back victory after two losses to begin the Second Round gave the third-placed Kings
as they improved their positions in the hunt for a place in the Round of 16
Turning Point: In spite of playing severely short-handed, Mures had a positive start to the game and led 16-11 with four minutes remaining in the opening quarter after a pair of free throws by Latvian forward Ernests Kalve
a timeout and a few harsh words by coach Vedran Bosnic was all it took for Sodertalje to turn things around
For the next five minutes, the hosts kept the Romanian side scoreless and solid defensive play continued in the second quarter, as Toni Bizaca single-handedly took care of business on the other end of the floor
as the Kings swiftly turned a five-point deficit into a 31-16 lead
Game Hero: The competition's leading scorer Bizaca made his mark felt right from the get-go
collecting 13 first-quarter points en route to a game-high 23 for the Kings
The 34-year-old big man from Croatia made 7-of-12 of his attempts from the field and added 4 rebounds and 2 assists in another spectacular personal display in the competition
Stats Don't Lie: The long-range shooting was on point for Sodertalje, with the Kings going 14-of-22 from three-point range for a stellar 64% form beyond the arc. If it wasn't for the red-hot shooting, the Swedish club could have been in for a tough evening, having turned the ball over a team season-high 25 times, which was only two shy of the worst mark in the season set by KB Peja
The Bottom Line: Having got their first win in Group K, Sodertalje Kings got right back in the chase for a Round of 16 ticket. Although group leaders Elan Chalon and Gaziantep already have two wins apiece before their head-to-head clash on Wednesday
a couple of positive results in the next two games against these clubs could spring the Swedish club even higher up in the table
They Said: "When they are defending me from far out they can not help inside – we used it with our bigger player and others who penetrated
I would lie if I said that we are completely satisfied
If we want to compete for the championship
this is one of the aspects we have to improve on." - Toni Bizaca

PET Recycling Team Targu Mures opened its first PET recycling plant in Targu Mures
PET Recycling Team Targu Mures (PET Recycling) developed a new polyethene terephthalate (PET) recycling facility in Targu Mures
PET Recycling is a joint venture that was formed in September 2021 by Austria-based packaging and recycling company ALPLA
Romania-based PET flakes manufacturer Ecohelp and Switzerland-based polymers distributor United Polymer Trading (UPT)
The new facility commenced production in January 2023 and is scheduled to be officially inaugurated in May 2023
It has the capacity to produce 18,000t of food-grade rPET granulate a year from household waste
The granulate produced by the facility will be used to produce new preforms and bottles
The facility will supply the European market with rPET promoting a circular economy in Central and South-Eastern Europe
It created 20 new jobs at the site in Targu Mures
The PET recycling plant is built adjacent to Ecohelp’s existing site in Targu Mures
The site has sufficient space for expansion in the future
Construction of the new PET recycling facility was completed in nine months
The facility is equipped with one extrusion line that recycles post-consumer PET bottles into high-grade rPET granules
Available in clear light blue and green colours
the rPET granules produced by the facility are sold to PET bottle manufacturers to manufacture new PET bottles
A second extrusion line will be added to the facility in the future and will double its capacity
The recycling process includes four main steps: automatic sorting
The automatic sorting process includes the separation of non-metal and metal materials
followed by the removal of labels using a state-of-the-art label remover
followed by automated colour and material sorting
The final step in automatic sorting is manual re-sorting
The washing step includes a cutting mill where the plastic is shredded and then undergoes two hot washing steps
A swim-sink procedure is used to separate light and heavy materials
Air separation is used to separate the light material
The flakes are sorted based on colour and then placed in mixing silos
The extrusion process uses the highest decontamination levels achieved through degassing and solid-state polymerisation (SSP) process
The process has minimal acetaldehyde and benzene values
The final step includes inspection
quality control checks and gas chromatograph analysis to ensure there are no defects or residual contaminants
Austria-based law firm CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz advised ALPLA on the joint venture
The PET Recycling joint venture combines the expertise of ALPLA
ALPLA brings its experience as a global recycling specialist and packaging manufacturer while Ecohelp will supply the base material for the recycling facility
UPT has an extensive distribution network for plastics and recycled material and specialises in trading plastics and recycled material
It also co-owns the Netherlands-based rPET upcycling facility
ALPLA plans to establish a bottle-to-bottle recycling process in the region through partnerships and joint ventures
The company is investing an average of €50m ($60m approximately) annually to expand its recycling activities by 2025
ALPLA’s annual recycling capacity currently amounts to 130,000t of PET and 60,000t of polyethene

the ETU Cross Triathlon European Championships
Check out all the reports and news from Târgu Mures on these links:
Second only in number behind the host country
the 37 British Age-Group athletes collected a total of 14 podium finishes
As she was in Ibiza last year
Kerri-Ann Upham was the fastest female GB athlete and retained her title in the F25-29 category
Follow the madness of the 'Race that eats its young' on RUN247
We are finally there… the last Great Britain Age-Group team medal roundup from the ETU Multisport European Championships Triathlon Festival from Târgu Mures
From the feedback I’ve had from athletes who competed across a range of the disciplines across the 10 days of competition,
the Târgu Mures organising committee in Romania did a great organisational job on what is a long and logistically complex organisation
First added at ITU World Championship level in 2017 (Penticton), this was the second (Age-Group only) ETU Aquabike European Championships competition following the debut in Ibiza last year
The Aquabike event is held alongside the Middle Distance Triathlon on the final day (Sunday) of competition
This format has been particularly popular with British athletes (and seemingly
with 88 of the 121 starters (73%) in GB colours
12 from the home nation of Romania with Germany (six) the only other nation with more than three starters
The result was 32 medals of which 13 were Gold
Amy Pritchard continued her impressive record this year
The fourth fastest athlete overall – including all of the men – only one British male
Amy has now won Aquabike Age-Group Gold at all thee World Champs (Penticton 2017 / Fyn 2018 / Pontevedra 2019) and both of the European Championship events held
The second quickest female overall was Melissa Dowell (50-54)
Mike Smallwood‘s Aquabike Gold extends his record of the most ITU / ETU World & European Championships Age-Group medals by a British athlete to 31

Csaba Borboly has called for military assistance and for culling quotas to be lifted following a spate of cases involving brown bears damaging property in Romania
In the depths of Transylvania, Romania
a war against one of Europe’s largest brown bear populations is looming
Following a string of cases involving damage to private property from bears in recent months
a senior politician from the Transylvanian region
“The [bear] problem needs the involvement of specialised state institutions such as the police
View image in fullscreenRomania is home to up to the second-largest population of brown bears in Europe
Photograph: AlamyBorboly’s remarks follow on the heels of a decision made in late September by the Romanian government to raise the bear hunting quota by the largest margin in recent history
The new quota allows for 550 bears to be killed over the next 12 months
hunting is the key method in “controlling” the bear population
a means of removing specific bears who have been shown to be particularly dangerous to humans and their property
With support from the hunting lobby and egged on by the increasingly bear-wary Romanian media
Borboly is calling on the Romanian government to amend a European treaty which limits the number of bears that can be culled each year
“Bears need to be considered in line with other natural disasters
such as floods and forest fires,” Borboly said
“They are out of hand and something needs to be done.”
Attila Kelemen is a Romanian MP and eastern European representative of Brussels-based lobby group the Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation (FACE)
The French have three bears and they are pushing in parliament to get rid of them as they cause problems for farmers
But they won’t let Romania do anything about our bears
View image in fullscreenRomania has raised its hunting quota for brown bears to 550 over the next 12 months
Csaba Domokos is a bear specialist with Milvus Group
a Transylvanian wildlife protection organisation
“The reality is that no one knows how many bears there are in Romania
but to know that we need three numbers: How many bears are being born
how many are dying from all causes – not just hunting – and how many are currently alive
The counting system is fundamentally flawed
Romania hosts hundreds of hunting associations
and each one is responsible for counting the bears in a particular area on the map
using the animals’ footprints as gauges of their numbers
“Of course bears don’t respect these areas,” explains Domokos
“They wander in and out of different hunting areas
Each one can certainly be counted more than once
This could put the total number up by thousands.”
Another issue causing conservationists concern is that the bears most feted by hunters are the alpha males
for which foreign hunters often pay up to €10,000 (£8,000) to shoot a single specimen
who usually keep populations in check by committing infanticide – the killing of the offspring of other males – in order to be able to mate with their mothers
an evolutionary trick designed to ensure the continuation of individual bears’ genetic codes
View image in fullscreenA brown bear climbs over a wall to reach rubbish bins in Brasov
Young bears are more adventurous and more likely to enter towns for food
Photograph: Alamy“These young bears are more adventurous,” explains Domokos
“They are the ones who are more prone to enter towns and so
even though the population could be falling as a whole
we are seeing more and more bears in human habitats
The last few months were particularly disastrous as there was almost none of the bears’ normal food – beach nuts and acorns – available
with the Romanian media becoming increasingly frenzied about the ‘bear problem’
people will take the issue into their own hands
Domokos has found four bears trapped in poachers’ snares along just a 25-mile stretch
and believes there are many more which he doesn’t see
“The hunting lobby can get away with raising the quota in the name of social protection
it is very unlikely it will come down again.”
has announced the date of inauguration for the newest shopping center in its portfolio
the largest of the last period in Mures county
Romanians from the north of the country will enjoy a premium shopping and leisure experience in Targu-Mures
Over 75 percent of the mall area has already been leased
and negotiations for the rest of the spaces will be completed shortly
Another novelty that Shopping City Targu Mures brings is the new design of the food court
which will transpose the concept of food hall
Visitors will enjoy an extensive offer of local and international cuisines
both from the region and from other countries
The mall will also feature a multiplex cinema
a 10,000-sqm Carrefour Hypermarket and a parking lot for 1,500 cars
The project will be completed with a roof garden of approximately 3,500 sqm which will serve 4 restaurants and provide a unique panorama over the historical area of the city.
In parallel with the construction of the shopping center
the developer has also started work to streamline traffic from the most important area of the city and increase traffic safety by building new roundabouts on the main boulevards adjacent to the NEPI Rockcastle project
Muresan struck Steaua striker Raul Rusescu in the eye with his elbow during a tackle attempt
The hit fractured the zygomatic bone in Rusescu's eye socket
was also fined $25,000 lei (about $7,200) for the hit
which will keep Rusescu out until at least January
Two other Steaua players were injured by fouls before the 29th minute
who sustained a concussion on a hit from ASA midfielder Ousmane N’Doye
N'Doye was suspended six games for his tackle
• WAHL: U.S. great Mia Hamm back in the spotlight
I’ve never seen anything like this,” Targu Mures’s general director Daniel Stanciu told local media
“How a player can be suspended for 16 matches since he wasn’t even sent off?““And I don’t understand N’Doye’s ban too
According to Reuters
Romanian media heavily criticized referee Istvan Kovacs for giving just a yellow card to Muresan
for not controlling the game enough to prevent the other reckless challenges and for other errors
One of Romania's most popular newspapers rated the referees zero out of 10 for their performance
He also made nine appearances for the Romanian national team from 2007-11

PRT Targu Mures joint venture promotes a bottle-to-bottle cycle
the global packaging solutions and recycling specialist
is investing in the construction of a recycling plant in Targu Mures
Romania as part of a joint venture with its partners
The plastic granulate recycled there in the future will come from PET bottles collected from household waste and will be used to manufacture new PET bottles
By creating the planned PET Recycling Team Targu Mures joint venture
Alpla and companies Ecohelp SRL (Romania) and United Polymer Trading AG (Switzerland) are each investing equally in the installation of an extrusion line to recycle post-consumer PET bottles at the Romanian partner’s site
They aim to produce 15,000 tonnes of food-grade post-consumer recycled PET (rPET) each year
The rPET granulate will then be used to manufacture new preforms and bottles
with an intention to strengthen the local materials cycle within the Central and South-Eastern Europe region
The three partners contribute different areas of expertise to the joint venture
While Alpla acts as a recycling specialist and a preform and bottle manufacturer
Ecohelp supplies base material in the form of PET flakes that will go through an extrusion process to produce high-grade rPET granules
UPT in turn co-owns the rPET Upcycling facility Cumapol Emmen in The Netherlands and specialises in trading plastics and recycled material
The entire amount being invested in the plant and the associated building and infrastructure comes to roughly €7.5 million
The plant expansion will create 15 new jobs at the site in Targu Mures
who is responsible for developing the company’s Sustainability and Circular Economy departments
emphasises the significance of the investment: “Our aim at Alpla now and in the future is to establish a bottle-to-bottle cycle – including in regions in which the collection and recycling of waste still has potential for development
we are taking a strategically important and sustainable step in this direction.”
adds: “We are seeing consistent growing demand from our customers for recycled material
It and our customers’ need to close local material cycles give us an opportunity to boost investment projects like these
we have brought together our different areas of expertise and are looking forward to a new form of collaboration.”
emphasises the relevance for local customer relationships: “With this investment
we are bringing our recycling expertise to our customers in the region
letting us operate within the market at even closer proximity.”
The joint venture is subject to regulatory approval by competition authorities
The parties signed the contract for it on 9 September 2021
with production planned to commence in mid-2022
The parties have agreed not to disclose any further details
Recycling activities expanding and becoming more international
the Alpla Group announced that it would invest an average of €50 million each year in the ongoing expansion of its recycling activities until 2025
it plans to globalise its activities in the area of high-quality recyclates in order to close the materials cycle in as many regions as possible
the annual capacity of the Alpla recycling companies
joint ventures and partnerships amounts to approximately 130,000 tonnes of PET and 60,000 tonnes of PE
