The organization co-runs the warehouse with IsraAID Sundermeier is proud of the work the warehouse has been able to accomplish in the year it has been up and running There hasn’t been a single thing they wanted shipped through here that we haven’t shipped and you just don’t know what’s going to happen next ‘We’ll figure it out.’” -Anthony Sundermeier having lost only nine pallets out of a total of about 12,000 “The number 99.9% delivered into a warzone would be fantastic if I was working for Intel or Apple in delivery,” Sundermeier said “So the fact that we are doing it in the warzone (as a small NGO) is amazing.” The warehouse has shipped aid of all shapes and sizes such as generators used to help hospitals like the Odesa Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital during the power outages a water treatment truck bound for Mykolaiv truckloads of medicine and even thousands upon thousands of pounds of onions the warehouse once received “There hasn’t been a single thing they wanted shipped through here that we haven’t shipped it was turning out 10 truckloads a day of aid to Ukraine and at one point even sent several barges of aid up the Danube River bound for Odesa The operation would not be possible without the incredible people working The team working at the hub includes lawyers logisticians and ex-special forces members speaking a smorgasbord of languages and using Google Translate and broken translations to run the most successful aid hub in Romania The team includes people like the affectionately nicknamed “Charlie’s Angels” — three Ukrainian women who were forced to evacuate their home during the first Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014 where their home was again damaged in the bombing and missile strikes of the most recent invasion last February They now work at the warehouse with Sundermeier also worked at the hub for roughly two months and helped set up the communication system used to direct and keep in touch with the ex-special forces team delivering the aid once it had left the hub Each member of the team at the hub has a superhero nickname Starlord and many others are represented by members of the team doing aid work on the border Editors Note: A figure in this story has been changed to adhere to financial disclosure agreements Reach Grant Coursey at news@collegian.com or on Twitter @grantcoursey Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center Plaza has become a hot spot for clubs and organizations.. Most of them were tourists heading to the nearby Danube Delta, the second largest river delta in Europe and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Now that the airport will host regular flights the authorities expect traffic to skyrocket to some 20,000 passengers by yearend He added that some EUR 14 million coming from EU funds will be invested in the airport’s infrastructure including a new passenger and cargo terminal The project will be financed through EU funds the county authorities have access to some EUR 800 million between 2014 and 2020 for infrastructure The funds are available through Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) a World Bank area development instrument Tulcea is the only county in Romania benefitting from such a World Bank program   Newly launched Fly Romania wants to fly 100,000 passengers this year Fly Romania started operations last Friday offering domestic flights on the Timisoara-Bucharest and Tulcea-Bucharest routes for fixed fares of EUR 69.90 and EUR 49.90 (one-way) respectively. For international flights, fares start at EUR 29.90. Fly Romania operates flights to Bergamo, Verona, Genoa, Barcelona, Frankfurt and Antalya. a company set up in 2010 and controlled by Romanian businessman Ovidiu Tender the airline plans to fly some 100,000 passengers on domestic and international routes and reach a turnover of around EUR 15 million in 2014 Fly Romania will operate flights from the Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport (Otopeni) and airports in Timisoara and Tulcea “We have considered routes where there is room for a new operator The Timisoara airport has very good business traffic and is served by two operators There is potential for two more,” said Butu The decision to operate from the Tulcea airport was an unexpected one given that it has one of the smallest volumes of traffic in the country but Fly Romania’s owner thinks the airport and the Tulcea area have the potential to generate consistent business Ten Airways was launched in 2010 and has so far operated only charter and wet lease flights (a type of leasing that also includes flight or cabin crews It now runs a fleet of six aircraft and last year flew approximately 300,000 passengers The flights are operated with two MD-82 and MD-83 airplanes which Ten Airways has purchased from Alitalia a construction company in the solar energy sector with offices in Cluj-Napoca and Nuremberg a renewable energy producer and ESRE license holder since 2007 announce the completion of the construction of a 1.1 MW photovoltaic power plant It is the first hybrid project to produce energy from renewable sources in the country according to data from the national electricity transmission company in Romania The total installed capacity of the hybrid plant currently amounts to 7.25 MW with an investment of approximately EUR 10 million The photovoltaic power plant project involved the implementation of Parapet mechanical infrastructure solutions by placing 2,652 photovoltaic panels in the vicinity of the 3 wind turbines installed in the Beştepe Park The installed system ensures a total annual power generation of 24GW contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 20.400 tonnes/year “The project of the hybrid solar and wind park in Bestepe is a pioneering one that meets Romania’s ambitious targets of decarbonization and of ensuring sustainable sources of electricity production the installed capacity leads to less variation in energy production better use of transmission and distribution systems We welcome the partnership with Blue Line Energy and we count on expanding such projects for a sustainable energy transition” The mixed power plant is in technological trials and the photovoltaic system will be fully integrated into the existing infrastructure The wind component of the plant has been operational since 2014 “We aim to hybridize all the plants we own as well as to complete the investments already started to build new production capacities A priority for the company is to complete the proposed investments in storage capacities already approved by the competent authorities within hybrid projects,” Blue Line Energy representatives stated.     the photovoltaic plant will produce a larger amount of electricity during the summer period when power generation from wind sources decreases thus ensuring less variation in the power generation process The project ensured an increase in the number of jobs during the construction of the plant and during the exploitation period and international service and equipment providers were involved in the project SINGAPORE – STX OSV Holdings (STX OSV) has won contracts to design and build three new subsea construction vessels DOF Subsea has ordered one vessel of the OSCV 12 design The hull will be built at SYX’s yard in Tulcea and completed at STX OSV Søviknes in 1Q 2015 Farstad Shipping’s vessel will be designed for subsea and inspection The contract value is roughly $144 million The vessel will be of the OSCV 07 design with a total length of 143 m (469 ft) and a deck area of more than 1,800 sq m (19,375 sq ft) It will be equipped with two offshore cranes one of which will have lifting capacity of 250 tons Delivery is scheduled from STX OSV Langsten in 1Q 2015 following construction of the hull in Tulcea Solstad Offshore has ordered an OSCV 03 design vessel equipped with a 250-ton crane and accommodation for 100 crew members The vessel’s overall length will be around 121 m (397 ft) with delivery from STX OSV Aukra in Norway scheduled for 2Q 2014 LIDL Romania opened a store in Constanta and one in Tulcea thus ending the year with a 220-store network in the whole country The two stores were built using a concept that improves customer experience creates a better work environment for employees and is environmentally sustainable thanks to the use of modern solutions and technologies The Constanta store will have a series of design improvements, including a taller roof and LED lighting with motion sensors that will help save energy. The store in Tulcea will be built on two floors, with parking on the ground floor and retail space on the top floor.  New LIDL stores include a lounge area for employees. Home » experiences » A spectacular sunset and a Sunday in the footsteps of Ivan Patzaichin  In what was announced to be the last summer weekend in October, we decided to run away from the seaside for a getaway to Tulcea. I said from the very beginning that Sunday would be dedicated to Ivan Patzaichin, especially since I didn't have it possibility to reach the inauguration of the cliff that bears the name of the famous Romanian athlete The classic road on the road that connects Constanța to Tulcea is longer by at least an hour due to the works that are being carried out at the entrance to Babadag If you don't want to make a detour of over 50 km I recommend you choose the Constanța - Baia - Sarichioi - Tulcea route (round trip) use the traditional route because you bypass the area with works the detour route will take you through the picturesque towns of Tulcea county (Slava Rusă The cliff in Tulcea is the connecting bridge between the city and the arms of the Danube the piece of land finally became a pedestrian area With an artesian well at mid-distance and a width that allows for terraces in the warm season the seafront is an attraction for tourists and locals the transition to the city is not made through a green space dusty banks and scaffolding erected by the builders who restore the blocks But if you only look towards the Danube you will ignore these unsightly aspects About 30 minutes of slow walking and you walk almost the entire cliff The "Ivan Patzaichin" memorial watches over the end which is also the entrance to the Danube Delta the Column is the visible symbol from any point of the Cliff that bears its name It honors the memory of Ivan Patzaichin from the perspective of his profile as multiple Olympic and World Canoe Champion 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics and triple silver medalist the work will symbolically mark the moments in which Ivan took the fame of Romania beyond the borders through his sporting achievements In his unmistakable way of working with matter and inspired by traditional culture Mircea Cantor uses the mosaic technique and painting to artistically reproduce Ivan's life course - starting from Mila 23 the village in the heart of the Danube Delta where he first met the water "Set Heart" and "Stopped Wave" - designed by Teodor Graur Marked by the magnetism and authority of the character IVAN – stemming from his profile of authenticity modesty and impeccable moral probity – Teodor Graur captures the Patzaichin effect that Ivan had on those he touched Graur captures his catalytic and inspirational side in these troubled times an engine capable of turning the tide in people who can Dan Vezentan dwells on the boundless love carried by Ivan in his soul throughout his journey – the love for water and the Delta Ivan took every opportunity to show the world the beauty of the places he came from it aimed to show the value of water for the inhabitants - both from a utilitarian perspective and as a means of coagulation of people around water an identity element that can bring prosperity and meaning to a community That's what Ivan Patzaichin used to say when he was taking a leisurely canoe ride through the Danube Delta A 30-minute drive from Tulcea and you reach the terrace on the bank of the Sf Gheorghe arm The culinary feast began with healthy portions of homemade marinated mackerel (34 lei/portion) While my companions enjoyed storceag (38 lei/portion) and šalau (30 lei/portion) The fish of more than 300 grams was cooked to perfection I highly recommend this place for the restaurant I don't know what to say about the guesthouse because I didn't stay overnight Recommendation: the restaurant employees informed us that in the autumn-winter season they will only open on weekends so it would not hurt to call ahead to confirm I hope that at the end of this year you will be able to read in www.funkytravel.ro a story about the Ivan Patzaichin Museum at Mila 23 The first exhibit of the Ivan Patzaichin Museum is set at sunset Pingback: a Sunday in the footsteps of Ivan Patzaichin - Observator24.ro
