LIBERTY — Preschoolers could hardly contain their excitement on the dance floor as Alta Head Start hosted its inaugural “Under the Stars Preschool Prom” Thursday night
The three-hour event at Girard’s Metroplex Event Center
brought together 530 parents and children from across the Mahoning Valley
Alta’s Family and Community Services manager
“We just thought it was a fantastic opportunity for us to have a fantastic
enormous event for all of our parents and our kiddos to come to,” Church-Bukus said
“One of the things we focus on is parents engaging with them in meaningful and memorable events — and this is just one of those times.”
Alta Head Start Director Lori Stellmar said the prom was unique to preschoolers
giving preschoolers a night to themselves when they wouldn’t experience something like it until junior or senior high school
as it gives them a chance to get parents on board with keeping them around.”
Bukus was referring to reports that the Trump Administration was considering a budget proposal that would eliminate funding for Head Start
“This isn’t necessarily something that the focus is on
but since the administration came out with its proposal to eliminate funding for Head Start
this is a huge event where we can get parents on board saying
this is the prime opportunity for us to stand up; this is our voice
this is why it’s important,” Bukus said
Stellmar said losing Head Start would be “catastrophic” to both Mahoning and Trumbull counties
which have thousands enrolled in the program
“A lot of our families would not be able to utilize child care
as it would be expensive and they also may not be able to continue their work,” Stellmar said
“You’re talking about 1,200 families that
if the Trump administration moves forward with their budget to defund Head Start
they’ll lose child care,” he said
“They’ll lose all these valuable services that help these families kind of rise out of poverty
so they can have affordable child care; it’s inevitable
It’s a vital component to what they need to survive.”
explained that support was one of the main reasons he came to the event
and they’ve become proficient in their math and numbers and alphabet; mom and I try to teach them this at home
they seem to have been doing a lot better,” Venerose said
“David’s almost potty trained and they’ve been working with him with that
“I applaud the staff at Head Start; I applaud the administration
The teachers and the staff and the faculty care about the children; I’d like to see the program continue
It really does make a difference in our childrens’ lives in so many areas.”
Venerose admitted that they were excited about coming to the event even though he wasn’t sure if they knew what a prom was

Of course Alta does not (and possibly never will) encourage the use of snowboards on their mountain. Alta restricts the use of any equipment other than skis, including snowboards, split boards, snow bikes, snow skates, ski blades, saucers, and more. That goes both for their lifts and for their trails, but these two snowboarders still managed to get in on the Frank action.

Alta is directly connected to Snowbird (which does allow snowboarders) through multiple gates, so it seems likely that these two trespassers took a Snowbird lift and crossed over to poach the run. However they did it, the crowd certainly isn’t having it.

she has been reunited with her parents; siblings
She will continue to watch over her daughter
and Dylan; several great-great-grandchildren
and nephews from her new seat in Heaven.
Willene grew up in Kentucky on a farm with her parents and siblings
who were raised to be hard-working and honest people
which were two significant traits that she carried with her throughout her beautiful life
She used her strong work ethic to take an 8th-grade education and turn it into a career she built from the ground up
She became a District Supervisor for White Castle until she retired in 1997 after 42 continuous years of service.
Her hard work and dedication led to her ability to not only take care of herself but to help take care of her son
You could see the light in her eyes each day
when she got her ”Jaxon kisses” and knowing Hudson would be coming soon
Nothing brought her more joy than knowing she was helping someone she loved
or rushing over to help soothe a crying baby…..she was there for any opportunity to support her family in any way possible
Self-sacrifice was not a part of her vocabulary because
there was no sacrifice involved when it came to the people she loved.
you received the same love and commitment from her because you were family
You can see how her example defined the meaning of what family is and designed the standard for each of us in how we care for each other
Simply being who she was began a love that will be felt for so many generations to come
she will live on endlessly through each of us as we continue to share the lessons and love she showed us while she was here.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to our friends at Indiana Funeral Care
and then a procession to London Cemetery for burial.

Print David Harden has spent enough time writing and producing TV content to know that few shows really follow the script
So he had little expectation his first foray into funding a men’s soccer team would go as planned
“It’s way better than I thought,” he said last week
before the stadium was finished and before we had a team that we could see on the field and the community in the stands
Here’s how real: Five weeks into its history AV Alta FC, a fledgling club in the third-tier USL League One, is 5-3-0 in all competition, two of its three losses coming on the road, followed by five straight wins at home.
Soccer
By allowing virtually anyone to own a slice of the team
Orange County Soccer Club has found a way to increase fan involvement with the team and the community
Last week the club knocked out Orange County SC, a perennial playoff team in the second-tier USL Championship, from the U.S. Open Cup and next month it will travel to Texas to play FC Dallas
The AV, by the way, stands for Antelope Valley, which hasn’t had a professional sports franchise since minor league baseball’s Lancaster Jethawks were disbanded in 2020
The valley has never had a professional soccer team
But the reception Alta FC has received suggests this one was long overdue: The team sold more than 2,000 season tickets and sold out the stadium’s 11 suites before it had played a game
And in the last four months it sold $250,000 in merchandise
including $85,000 on the day of its first league home game — one that drew more than 5,433 fans to its 5,300-seat stadium
It has averaged 4,500 for its three league games
about 85% of capacity for a team that didn’t exist two months ago
“It feels pretty good to have some kind of home pride again,” said Andrew Montez
who has attended three of the team’s first five home games
Now you only have to drive a few minutes to go.”
AV Alta’s fan group, The 661, marches through Lancaster Municipal Stadium before a game. (Jose Lucha / AVFC) Next to him stood Carlos Madrigal, who was holding a green Alta FC flag. Madrigal has made the 115-mile round trip to BMO Stadium to see LAFC play but is considering throwing his allegiance to the local club
It brings the community together,” he said
the fans — all together they become something much bigger.”
chief operating officer of the United Talent Agency
entertainment and advisory firm based in Beverly Hills
helped Smelzer raise the club’s operating capital while Harden and his wife
put more than $1 million behind the effort
The Hardens were also among the early investors in Angel City
the NWSL expansion club that grew into the valuable women’s sports franchise in history in less than five years
“John’s passion was important,” David Harden said
you want a founder who’s not going to lose interest
You’re looking for grit and a real measure of grit is passion
But I was most attracted to the opportunity
Live sports is a super sexy investment category
So we’re just riding a lot of trend lines in the right direction.”
As Smelzer and Harden looked out on a Tuesday night crowd of more than 3,200 at the Jethawks old stadium
which the city spent $17 million to retrofit for soccer
each searched for evidence to prove their investments of time and money had been wise ones
cheering fanatically from their front-row seats late in the second half
Open Cup game with LAFC’s NextPro team went into extra time late on a chilly weeknight
When the game with Orange County went to penalty kicks last week
hundreds of fans crowded behind the south goal
which likely intimidated the visitors and buoyed the home team
Those fans were cheering for a team that includes national team players from El Salvador
Panama and Trinidad and Tobago as well as homegrown players such as former MLS winger Miguel Ibarra and three other players from the Antelope Valley
The idea was to show kids there was a path from here to there; that professional soccer had a pathway for players from the valley to the pros
Sean Franklin played at Highland High in Palmdale then won two MLS Cups
was named the MLS rookie of the year and made an all-star team with the Galaxy
But the market could be a bigger factor than the roster in the team’s chances at success
The valley’s population of approximately 500,000 makes it about the size of Sacramento and Kansas City
And while putting an NBA or NFL team in that market would be ambitious
a third-tier soccer team seems like a good fit
I thought that I would come to a couple of games
I thought I would write him a check and wish him good luck,” Harden said
And they have embraced us and what we’re trying to do in ways that go beyond our expectations
“Antelope Valley is this lost little diamond in L.A
And there’s not a lot of competition for people’s attention.”
AV Alta FC has certainly drawn the people’s attention

Mar 21, 2025As we sit on the doorstep of spring’s equinox, a storm dispatch from Alta Ski Area indicates winter’s fury is not prepared to surrender its stronghold in the refuge of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains.Around the stroke of midnight on Monday
a cold front whipped through the region with gusty fervor
Those lucky enough to be staying in Little Cottonwood were slapped with Interlodge travel restrictions
making it illegal to leave their lodges and a requirement to shelter in place due to rising avalanche danger
When Little Cottonwood Canyon records greater than an inch of snowfall per hour for a sustained period of time
“This is the place,” as we like to say in Utah.By morning on Tuesday the 18th
11 inches had fallen and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) worked tirelessly to mitigate the 64 slide paths looming above Highway 210
The highway was cleared and opened by 8:30am and intrepid skiers navigated the snowy incline while UDOT posted warnings that another mid-day road closure was probable
The atmosphere at Alta is always electric amid storms like these
It’s the sudden remembrance that at times we are powerless against Mother Nature’s more dramatic spells and to experience that moment of hubris in the snow alongside her rage is a memorable sensation indeed
Interlodge sign at Alta Ski Area on March 19
Howling winds and challenging visibility all morning were simply the precursor before a switch to more favorable weather dynamics featuring northwest flow and orographic lake effect enhancement by midday
If you’re lucky enough to catch Little Cottonwood Canyon in one of these moments
You’ll notice that time slows as the intensity of the wind and snow ratchets
You’re locked into the center of the universe and all that matters is the here
the now and the face shots blasting your ice-encrusted neck gaiter
Your voice grows hoarse with the whooping and hollering of joy unbound
Showing two enthusiastic Australian women the ins and outs of Alta amid this turbulence
both gushed that this was surely their best day of skiing
I would hear this phrase repeated eight more times on chairlifts or in the liftline during the course of the tempest
UDOT did indeed shutter the road at 1:00pm for a second avalanche mitigation mission
The storm’s hysteria did not ebb and nor did our appetite for storm skiing
With the departure of many skiers looking to beat the road closure
employees and lodge guests chased deep powder to the 4:30 p.m
bell while the Alta snow stake blasted past 25 inches
Through the driving snow I hear “THAT WAS THE DEEPEST RUN OF MY LIFE!” accompanied by an expletive of disbelief after our final waist-deep descent down Greeley Hill
There's nothing like an Alta powder day
with the last rotation of the chairlifts complete
the storm refused to taper and UDOT was forced to shut the road yet again around the 5 o'clock hour to perform more control work
A little extra patience and grit were required of those driving down Highway 210 that evening
with many skiers not arriving home until 10 p.m.
just before another road closure went into effect—the fourth road closure in the past 24 hours
It was a long day but well worth the newfound memories of skiing a classic northwest Little Cottonwood canyon storm
The week of March 17th has delivered one of those legendary Little Cottonwood Canyon “full nuclear" storm cycles
pushing Alta beyond 475 inches of snowfall this season
On the heels of a 44-inch storm cycle last week
Mother Nature’s latest fit produced an eye-popping 30 inches in 24 hours and a 31-inch storm total
a quintessential Utah “spring” bluebird day
Alta skiers were greeted with waist deep snow
sunshine and big terrain openings thanks to the hard work of UDOT
Mountain Ops teams and the Alta Ski Patrol
The temperatures remained uncharacteristically cold for mid-March and patrol opened Ballroom
Devil’s Castle and the Castle Apron
Many skiers etched the tracks which instantly became their best ever day of skiing
If you were lucky enough to be at Alta on March 18th or 19th

Fourth Quarter Financial Highlights: (comparisons are year over year)
2024 Full Year Financial Highlights: (comparisons are year over year)
today announced financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31
our 2024 performance was impacted by several factors including elevated interest rates and uncertainty regarding the U.S
both of which contributed to a moderation of construction spending and a reduction of non-residential project starts in the U.S.
This backdrop resulted in an overall decline in the North American construction equipment market
as equipment volumes within some of our regional markets were off approximately 10 to 20 percent
construction pricing was further pressured throughout the year as industry dealer channels were overstocked across the landscape
impacting gross margins and market share in our Construction segment
The factors that challenged our Construction segment also impacted our Master Distribution segment in 2024
negatively affecting equipment volumes and gross margins year over year
our Material Handling segment showed more resiliency
as North American lift truck deliveries grew in 2024 as the industry continued to work through record backlogs generated post-COVID
revenues for our Material Handling segment were $687.4 million
which drove increased demand for equipment as evidenced by our fourth quarter equipment sales results where we registered our best equipment sales quarter of 2024
Despite the notable sequential increase in equipment sales in the fourth quarter
gross margins on equipment sales continued to be pressured as market participants aimed to right-size their inventory and rental fleet levels heading into the new year
rental equipment seasonality in our northern regions as well as employee and customer downtime due to the holiday schedule also negatively impacted our results in the fourth quarter.”
“Despite the contraction in the construction equipment markets and other macroeconomic concerns
our total revenues for 2024 were essentially flat from last year
which demonstrated the resilience of our dealership model during market cyclicality and the strength of our multiple revenue streams
diversified product portfolio and attractive geographic footprint in the U.S
Indications of this resilience from a financial perspective in 2024 are two-fold
our product support business continued to perform well in 2024
with combined revenues increasing 5.5% year-over-year with parts and service sales growing to $294.4 million and $253.8 million
despite the challenges that 2024 presented to our team
we successfully achieved organic growth for the fifth consecutive year in product support since going public five years ago
given our rent-to-sell business model we were able to quickly right-size fleet levels in the second half of 2024 which allowed for strong operating cash flows in 2024
and deleveraging of the balance sheet of over $60 million since June 30
Our confidence in the business model’s resiliency and our ability to produce cash flows throughout the cycle allowed us to return $13.6 million to shareholders in 2024
despite an otherwise challenged overall business climate.”
“Despite the current lack of clarity regarding interest rate levels and the proposed policy impacts of the new administration
our outlook for 2025 remains positive relative to 2024
We expect the oversupply of new equipment to normalize in the coming quarters
enhancing our competitiveness in the construction segment in 2025
with long-term stability driven by sustained capital investment in end-user construction markets
we believe that the prudent cost and inventory optimization initiatives undertaken in 2024 provide a solid foundation for our business as we launch into 2025 and further create operating leverage for our business in the future
our success would not be possible without the ongoing determination and dedication of our employees
and I am very proud of their commitment to our Alta’s guiding principles in 2024
which are predicated on teamwork and fostering customers for life.”

This press release includes “forward-looking statements” within the meaning of the “safe harbor” provisions of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995
Alta’s actual results may differ from their expectations
estimates and projections and consequently
you should not rely on these forward-looking statements as predictions of future events
Words such as “expect,” “estimate,” “project,” “budget,” “forecast,” “anticipate,” “intend,” “plan,” “may,” “will,” “could,” “should,” “believes,” “predicts,” “potential,” “continue,” and similar expressions are intended to identify such forward-looking statements
These forward-looking statements involve significant risks and uncertainties that could cause the actual results to differ materially from the expected results
Most of these factors are outside Alta’s control and are difficult to predict
Factors that may cause such differences include
but are not limited to: supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures resulting from supply chain disruptions; labor market dynamics that impact the price and availability of labor; negative impacts on customer payment policies; adverse banking and governmental regulations
resulting in a potential reduction to the fair value of our assets; the performance and financial viability of key suppliers
and financing sources; our key OEM's relative approaches to competitive pricing dynamics in the marketplace and how their approaches impact the competitiveness of the equipment we sell and our market share; economic
business and political conditions including their effects on governmental policy and government actions that disrupt our supply chain or sales channels
skilled technicians; our ability to maintain our listing on the New York Stock Exchange; the impact of cyber or other security threats or other disruptions to our businesses; our ability to realize the anticipated benefits of acquisitions or divestitures
rental fleet and other organic investments or internal reorganizations; federal
especially as it relates to infrastructure projects and taxation; currency risks and other risks associated with international operations; and other risks and uncertainties identified in this presentation or indicated from time to time in the section entitled “Risk Factors” in Alta’s annual report on Form 10-K and other filings with the U.S
Alta cautions that the foregoing list of factors is not exclusive
and readers should not place undue reliance upon any forward-looking statements
Alta does not undertake or accept any obligation or undertaking to release publicly any updates or revisions to any forward-looking statements to reflect any change in its expectations or any change in events
or circumstances on which any such statement is based
To supplement our consolidated financial statements
which are prepared and presented in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States (“GAAP”)
Adjusted total net debt and floor plan payables
and Adjusted basic and diluted pre-tax net income per share
in this press release because we believe they are useful performance measures that assist in an effective evaluation of our operating performance when compared to our peers
without regard to financing methods or capital structure
We believe such measures are useful for investors and others in understanding and evaluating our operating results in the same manner as our management
such measures are not financial measures calculated in accordance with GAAP and should not be considered as a substitute for
or any other operating performance measures calculated in accordance with GAAP
We define Adjusted EBITDA as net income before interest expense (not including floorplan interest paid on new equipment)
adjustments for certain one-time or non-recurring items and other adjustments
We exclude these items from net income in arriving at Adjusted EBITDA because these amounts are either non-recurring or can vary substantially within the industry depending upon accounting methods and book values of assets
capital structures and the method by which the assets were acquired
Management uses Adjusted total net debt and floor plan payables to reflect the Company's estimated financial obligations less cash and floor plan payables on new equipment ("FPNP")
The FPNP is used to finance the Company's new inventory
with its principal balance changing daily as equipment is purchased and sold and the sale proceeds are used to repay the notes
management views the FPNP as interest bearing accounts payable
representing the cost of acquiring the equipment that is then repaid when the equipment is sold
as the Company's floor plan credit agreements require repayment when such pieces of equipment are sold
The Company believes excluding the FPNP from the Company's total debt for this purpose provides management with supplemental information regarding the Company's capital structure and leverage profile and assists investors in performing analysis that is consistent with financial models developed by Company management and research analysts
Adjusted total net debt and floor plan payables should be considered in addition to
as reported in the Company's Consolidated Balance Sheets in accordance with U.S
Adjusted pre-tax net income is defined as net income before income taxes adjusted to reflect certain one-time or non-recurring items and other adjustments
Adjusted basic and diluted pre-tax net income per share is defined as adjusted pre-tax net income divided by the weighted average number of basic and diluted shares
Certain items excluded from Adjusted EBITDA
Adjusted basic and diluted pre-tax net income per share are significant components in understanding and assessing a company’s financial performance
items such as a company’s cost of capital and tax structure
certain one-time or non-recurring items as well as the historic costs of depreciable assets
are not reflected in Adjusted EBITDA or Adjusted pre-tax net income
Adjusted basic and diluted pre-tax net income per share should not be construed as an indication that results will be unaffected by the items excluded from these metrics
Adjusted basic and diluted pre-tax net income per share may not be identical to other similarly titled measures of other companies
For a reconciliation of non-GAAP measures to their most comparable measures under GAAP

Despite his team never leading in the first three quarters on Wednesday
and trailing by four goals on multiple occasions
Brighton coach Chris O’Donnell never doubted his team would rally for the win over rival Alta
“We talk about running teams into the ground
and how do you do that is by running nonstop,” said O’Donnell
including seven unanswered over the final 10 minutes to pull away for the emphatic 19-14 road victory
it was how long could they match our intensity
match our up-and-down pace we want to play with,” said O’Donnell
Alta’s JJ Massi score his team’s final goal 15 seconds into the fourth quarter to push the Hawks’ lead to 14-12
The Bengals scored seven straight goals in a span of 3:47
with Austin Taylor accounting for three of those goals and Gabriel Carrera two more
Jaxon Webster’s fourth-quarter dominance on the faceoff was the catalyst to the goal explosion
take I like we did kind of late in that game
it gets you the ability to run and taking teams down with you,” said O’Donnell
An Alta team that was red hot offensively in the first half and no answer in slowly down the defending 5A champion Bengals down the stretch
It’s how O’Donnell has groomed this year’s team to play
“We went from a let’s win games 10 -6 last year to let’s win games 19-14
so we’re trying to teach them a new style so it takes a little bit of time,” he said
it took his team time to settle down after Alta’s hot start as it jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes as Braxton Horoba scored two of his four-goals
By the end of the quarter Brighton had rallied to tied the score 4-4
The pace picked up even more in the second quarter as the teams combined for 12 goals
with Alta stretched its lead to 11-9 by halftime
Alta’s Cole Collins scored his first goal of the season as did goalie Colton Tueller on a long-range shot at the 6:35 mark of the quarter
Alta led 11-7 with 1:05 remaining in the second quarter
but Jaxon Webster and Taylor each scored in the final minute to whittle the deficit to 11-9 by halftime
Alta’s goalie made a half a dozen saves in the third quarter to keep the Hawks in front
Early in the fourth though after Brighton took its first lead of the game at 14-13
you have to capitalize on the momentum,” said O’Donnell
