Central Fittja was planned and built in the early 1970´s, and is a socially problematic area with a high degree of social housing. © Johan FowelinThe site is set on a terrace above the landscape sloping towards the water. The main idea is to connect the three distinct spatial characters and scales of the setting: the local centre, the common meadow and the band in-between, consisting of low-rise community functions i.e. school, pool and park structures. © Johan FowelinA diagonal sequence is created through a series of informal public spaces, which opens up visual access and connects pedestrian movement through the terrace blocks. The central square is filled with everyday functions and city life. Private spaces are located on different levels as roof terraces, intimate gardens and entry spaces.   © Johan FowelinThe housing units vary from one-room studios to efficient 4-6 room apartments and terraced houses. A focus has been on generation-living strategies, offering possibilities for large families and relatives to live within the area. New streets are shared-space environments, where the surface treatment from the diagonal space extends onto adjacent streets.   © Johan FowelinThe buildings are constructed with prefabricated timber elements Few but flexible module types have been combined to create variety The exterior treatment of stained timber panels You'll now receive updates based on what you follow Personalize your stream and start following your favorite authors If you have done all of this and still can't find the email Gareth BrowneSeptember 06 Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia has paid a visit to the Fittja Grand Mosque in Stockholm the Muslim worship place where Sweden's first-ever call to prayer was heard last week.King Gustaf on Saturday visited centers belonging various cultures in celebration of the 40th anniversary of his coronation. His schedule also included Fittja Grand Mosque where Muslim worshippers waiting for the congregational Friday prayer last week heard the first-ever call to prayer to be recited in Sweden. The mosque represents a blend of influences from the Turkish Ottoman and Swedish architectural styles.Officials of the mosque said they were pleased with the 20-minute visit by the King and Queen of Sweden Muslim worshippers today gathered for the Friday prayer at a mosque in Stockholm which saw the first-ever call to prayer to be recited in Sweden.Sweden's state-run television broadcast live while Fittja Grand Mosque's imam recited the prayer call (adhan) via a loudspeaker from the minaret."I have been living in Sweden for 25 years and this is the first time I have ever heard the adhan from the minaret I am very happy," Guluz Kayhan told the Anadolu Agency as she tried to hold her tears back    "This is a historic day," said Iman Upmann a Swede converted to Islam 13 years ago.Earlier in April local police ruled to allow the prayer calls following a September 2012 decision by local government to remove a ban on reciting the adhan from minarets
